I almost don't want to review this place for fear of giving away the secret... ...almost. Really, the fledgling greatness that is Bier Station can be summed up pretty quickly and easily: 1) They have 20 taps which rotate with a cornucopia of craft beers. Just watch their Facebook page to see beers arrive and depart--frequently. In that respect it really is kind of like a train station for beers. 2) In addition to the 20 taps, they have a wall of coolers filled with 90% great, crafty beers, in 6-pack, 4-pack, 750mL, bomber, and 12 oz for building your own 6-pack varieties. Easily the best (but pricey--understandably so) build-your-own sixer in the city that I've found. 3) Now, rather than get too complicated, I'd recommend you just read the FAQ on their website, but they do a combination of to-go and "drink in" beers. As of now, the taps are drink there only, but most anything in the case can be purchased and imbibed right there in the shop or taken home with you. I can't tell you how much fun it is to come order a glass of one of their tap beers while browsing the cooler beers to see if you want anything. They've really got the trappings of an outstanding local business, and I plan on frequenting the place. I have a feeling this idea is going to catch on--maybe that's just wishful thinking.

If you like craft bier this is the only bar you need to know in the area. They have 28 taps with a constantly rotating assortment of bier that will satisfy just about anyone. The staff is friendly and knows there stuff. I'm somewhat of a regular and if I am not sure on what I want someone is always able to help point out something great. The bar staff is serving everyone so the reviewers that have said anything about slow service clearly don't realize that. All in all if you want a place to discover new bier or just to hang out and find something you like to relax with this is the place for you

This place... is.. awesome. If you are a beer fanatic, this is the place to be. If you are looking for a specialty beer, chances are the Bier Station has it. You can get beer either "to go" (as if you were just buying beer at the liquor store), or you can drink it there, and they will pour it into a glass for you. They also have a surprisingly good selection of beers on tap as well. If you go to their website, you can see which beers they have on tap for that day to help you make your decision. Now, because I no longer live in KC, this is the only time I've been there (and will probably be the only time in quite a awhile), but I get the impression that their tap selection changes frequently if they have online their tap selections for the day. Their food is also pretty good, but be warned the food selection is NOT big. You can get gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, brauts, or pretzels. THIS part, I wish I would have known before going there, because both sausages and cheese don't always sit well with my stomach. HOWEVER, their grilled cheese with apples is REALLY good. The only downside about this place, is that if you don't know what you want, the selection can be overwhelming. I myself had a hard time deciding what to get, so I just went with a Chocolate Milk Stout they had on tap, and was very pleased with my choice. If you aren't sure which tap beer to get, the staff is very good at explaining the differences between the types that are on tap, or even the differences between similar beers that are on tap. You can even order small beers as well (4oz), which is nice if you want to be able to try a few different kinds without getting crazy drunk (a lot of the beers were up to 8-10% alcohol by volume). If it's a nice day, I highly recommend taking your food and beer and hanging out in their upstairs area. When it's nice they open the garage door style walls and turn it into a patio. If you consider yourself a beer connoisseur, this is the place for you! Or, you know... if you just really like beer. :)

What a fun, new place! I have been looking forward to trying Bier Station and I wasn't disappointed. The place was packed on Saturday night. It was good to see a new locally owned business full of people. The menu board changes every so often with the names of the available taps and the prices for size. I didn't sample anything because I zoned in on the Imperial Stout. I was pleasantly surprised since I am not a Goose Island fan. I didn't have a chance to look over the case of beer but plan to the next time I am there. The upstairs is nice with plenty of room. I am looking forward to going back this summer for an afternoon there. With the garage doors open, I can see this as a must go during the summer. In addition to the stout, I had a pilsner which had an unexpected pop of flavor. It would be great paired with BBQ. The selection of beers, per their Facebook page, seems to rotate often. There is definitely something for everyone. Overall, Bier Station is a winner!

Live in the neighborhood and love this place. The menu board can be a bit overwhelming if you don't know a lot about beer, but the bartenders are helpful, knowledgeable and you can have a taste before you buy. My husband and I stop in on our walks with our baby and dog probably more than we should. But the patio and cold beers call to us. There is a nice seating area outside where you can watch other people out for a walk or bike ride. It's not loud like the patios at bars on Wornall. We love the soft pretzels, but the Westmoreland is my favorite. It's a sandwich with hummus, cucumber, feta, spinach, red onion, tomato, roasted red pepper and black olives on multigrain bread. So yummy! The owner also lives in the neighborhood and seems like a really nice guy. We've never stayed long enough to utilize the large stack of board games because we're normally with the kid and the dog, but it seems like that would be a great night too.

Consider this a 4.5 star review, with 3.5 going to the service and 5.0 for the beer. I know that doesn't average out to a 4.5, but the beer is the most important thing, right? Been here twice - both times in the early/mid-afternoon on a weekday, so the place was nearly deserted. I can't speak to the parking or crowds, but if you visit at the right time, the place is beer heaven. The beer list (which is brilliantly presented on a large TV that shows the appropriate glassware for the beer, the amount left in the keg, and the prices for the various sizes) is outstanding. For my own personal tastes, I'd like to see a few more porters/stouts, but really, it's a great list. Next, for almost every beer, the sizes are priced so you are not penalized for ordering a smaller pour. For example, if it's $2 for a 4oz, then it's $4 for an 8oz. If it's $1.5 for 4, then it's $4.50 for 12 (you get the picture - if not, grab a calculator). Where do you ever see pricing like this? So, try a small pour and then do another of the same, or move on to a different beer and expand your horizons. Maybe it's just me, but I could write a short story on how much I love this. The service, in terms of personality and care with the pour, is a bit hit-and-miss. If you want to tell your life-story to a bartender, this is not the place.

If you like beer, you will find it here. Yes, I enjoy going there for one or two beers, once in a while. Their food is fresh and brat recipes from a local chef, born in Germany. Pretzel bread from local bread maker. Winning combination! They have for all different tastes. Fun ambiance with all kinds of people: groups of bicyclists, couples with young children, young and older couples, singles... Board games available, nice way to stay away from technology and meet friends/ family. Prosit!

Excellent beer selection, both tap and bottles. Been twice and each time the hipsters behind the bar were standoffish to straight rude and not very attentive. if you like attitude from a man with a tiny mustache, hit this place up.

Kansas City's latest addition to a growing beer scene is Bier Station, a draft and bottle shop located at Rockhill and Gregory Boulevards, a short stroll from my front door. It will open for business today 12/29, but I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview on 12/27. Bier Station is a new kind of beer store, where you have 3 main options when you walk in. 1) You can walk in, pick out some beers from the cooler, and take it home, just like any other beer store, but better because of the selection. 2) You can walk in, take a seat, and drink beer from the 21 taps, just like any other beer bar, but better because of the selection. 3) You can walk in, choose a beer from the cooler, bring it to the bar, have them open it (for a slightly higher price than the to-go price) and enjoy it at the bar or one of the tables, just like no place else in Kansas City. I drank at the bar and then brought home a few treasures. Short review - WOW - Kansas City has a new source for great beers and a great place to hang out. Longer review - Bier Station is a warm, inviting place with thoughtful touches to make it truly special. In the upstairs loft space (ideal for gatherings of friends, or book clubs, or fantasy sport drafts, etc.), a wall is taken up by a great photograph of a turn-of-the-century beer garden in KCK. The furniture downstairs combines recycled-wood tables and comfortable chairs. But you're not at Bier Station to shop furniture - you're there to experience the best beers in the world, and the place features the most thoughtful selection of beer I've ever seen. 21 taps with a broad range of styles, flavors and brewing traditions. I have been drinking craft beer for a couple decades with an eye out for new examples, but even I had never tasted more than a few of the tap offerings. This is not the same old tasting group, I assure you. I cannot say enough good things about the beer selection in the coolers, either. My New Orleans-based daughter noticed that her local favorite, Abita, wasn't represented, and then we took a look at the wall full of coolers to see what we could recommend removing to open up a spot, and came up blank. It warms my heart to see that much great beer in one location. The beer manager at Bier Station is Brad from Royal, and he knows his stuff. I should also point out that they have a superb selection of single bottles for the best build-your-own-sixpack opportunity in Kansas City. Too often, the bottles shunted into the build-you-own section are last year's seasonals and whatever hasn't sold, but Bier Station wants to help you taste the best beer at its peak, so you'll be back to expand your beer horizons. Bier Station also has a small food menu, that may expand with time. Right now, they offer Farm-to-Market pretzels in several varieties (Bavarian, Potato and Rosemary, Jalapeno and Cheddar, and one I can't recall), a good selection of cured meats and cheeses (including BobKat Dan's locally smoked Gouda!) and some delectable looking cupcakes. Let me acknowledge that Bier Station is a local business start-up run by people I know and care for, and it is a couple blocks from my home, so I have all kinds of biases that make me want to love the place. But the joyful truth of the matter is that the people I care for have delivered a top-notch product - I would honestly love this place if it were in Blue Springs or even (gasp!) Kansas, and I would rave about it even if I hadn't shared great homebrews many times with John Couture. It really is a tremendous addition to Kansas City's beer scene (bier scene?), and I plan to be a regular.

Simply put the absolute best place for beer geeks to get their groove on. This is part bar, part retail outlook and totally awesome. It can get a bit confusing As you walk in you'll see both a bar as well as cold cases with beers. All of those bottled and canned beers are for sale, but only some can be consumed in store. You'll pay extra for that privilege when you compare the costs to a big box store. Get over it. Convenience comes at a price At the bar you'll find a highly curated selection of craft beers that span the amazing multiverse of beer. On the screens are "arrivals" which describe the current beers on tap, the style of beer as well as the alcohol content. Watch that arrival screen closely because they keep the beers fresh and when they run out they run out. Every time I've been there I've seen them tap a fresh selection and say goodbye to an old one. Some beers may only last a day or so therefore get them while the getting is good. Along with the beers are tasty bar treats that make for nice snack rather than a meal: a selection of meats, cheeses and bread. Keeps your stomach with a bit of food so you can consume more beer. The atmosphere here is more like a coffee shop rather than a bar.. It's designed for you to stay a while and enjoy beers with your friends. Upstairs is a beer garden and they have a variety of board games to share with your drinking buddies. Check out the twitter feed (Drafster_KC) to find out the beers arriving there. I'm sometimes raced over there for a popular beer (w00t stout) because I know in a day or two it will be gone.

If you are a person who loves good, quality craft brew, Bier Station is the place for you. I happen to be one of those people and I have not been let down in the beer department on any of my three visits. The kitchen here is limited. That's fine, because I don't necessarily need to eat a lot when I'm enjoying a frosty cold one. Honestly it's not the style of food I enjoy eating for a meal, for me it's more snack-ish. Fresh baked pretzels, grilled cheese, cheese plates, sausages crafted by the chef at Affair - all really good. Will I go back? If beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy, he made Bier Station as evidence of his love. Now when can we get one of these in JoCo? I suppose that Kansas' weird and archaic liquor laws will prevent me from experiencing God's love in Overland Park anytime soon.

Beer selection was nice. I was disappointed with the food even though I only ordered the charcuterie plate. I know that one should not have high or any expectations when it comes to food at an establishment such as this. However, this was disappointing as there wasn't anything to cook or prepare! I'd say that there was a TOTAL of about 1.0 oz of capocolla and prosciutto that were cut into shreds. The portions were a tad skimpy in comparison to other charcuterie plates that I've had for about the same amount of money. I'd go for the beer and forgo the food.

We walked here on a Sunday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised at the crowd that we found enjoying cold beer and good food. They have a huge beer selection and a really cool tv monitor, similar to an airport arrival/departure monitor, that highlights the beers on draft. You order at the bar and take your beer to a table. If you order food (they have a limited menu) they will deliver it to your table. We found that tasting was the way to go here, with the large variety. The food menu is limited, but very appealing. We split the Wyandotte sandwich, which was actually very tasty (only four sandwich choices, but each can be prepared cold, oven toasted or pressed - so 12 sandwiches, right?). We enjoyed our second round of beers in the upstairs beer garden. A great atmosphere with large, shared tables and garage doors that open. There were people playing cards and enjoying the beautiful day. Cheers!

I'm still just A-OK about this place, but they have made some improvements worth noting. 1. They have a patio area! It isn't huge or super fancy, but it is an outdoor space. 2. The patio area is dog friendly. It supposedly even has hooks for your dog leashes. Awesome idea! 3. Super bicycle friendly. Love that. You won't be the only one clicking around in your funny shoes and spandex suit. 4. They do lots of special & innovative events that are posted on Facebook. Typically, this would all lead to 4 stars; however, I think they still have some improving to do. I've still had "meh" service more consistently than good service. I think/hope this is primarily due to staffing issues. They seem very busy often, and are just plain understaffed. This is a shame, because to me a good beer bar is one where the bartender can take some time to talk about their favorite ones on tap, describe them, show their passion, etc, and this whole exchange can take less than 5 minutes. I also have to disagree with Tim M. on calling yelpers who comment on lackluster service "prima dona"s. Yes, there are plenty of needy folks out there, but the service here is not just a problem for the needy...it's a problem for the easy going customers too. Also, his experience in which "all you have to do is ask questions" for the 'tenders to chat has not been consistent for me. Sometimes they take the time to answer, other times they seem annoyed that you're asking. This was especially noted when asking about their Randall combinations, and if they had any recommendations. The server's lack of input and enthusiasm definitely steered us away from the more expensive Randall purchase, and we opted for single beers because we felt like we were annoying him. Maybe next time... Related to that, I wish they would improve their tap list system. It would be ideal if they could have the entire list on a monitor or have 2 monitors...or hell, even just a plain old chalkboard. I thought they had fixed this monitor thing, but the last time I went it was the tap list that flips back and forth. I also think they could improve things by providing more detailed descriptions for beers. Right now they provide general genres (e.g., "sour ale," "IPA", etc.). I'm not asking for a novella, but just a few sentences describing each beer would be nice...and a board that lists all taps simultaneously because my working memory ain't that good! I think these modifications would lead to less slammed bartenders and shorter serving waits. But then again, I'm just a yelper, not a bar owner. I definitely will keep coming back because they have great beer selection for KC, but I just wish the customer service aspect would improve.

I was initially enthused to try this place out. My friend said he wanted a "really strong" beer place and i thought of this place. Upon walking in, i was a little confused if it was a bar a restaurant a store or what. It seemed like a really legit beer-haus. Great: sign me up! However, the service was so pathetic that we just had to leave. The attitude of the staff was really so bad that we couldn't believe it. We literally waited for over 20 minutes just to buy a beer (it's not that big or busy of a place). We walked out and wont be back. Interestingly, an hour later our bad experience popped up in the conversation and my buddy said that if he owned that place he would crack skulls (fire people) if he knew what was happening, and just like to know if he didnt. Couldnt agree more. New businesses need all the luck they can get but just can not survive poor help.

This was my third trip to Bier Station and I am officially in love with this place. I went in for the Julian Hard Cider and Odell Extra Pale Ale tasting tonight. You buy the pint of either one or both like me off the tap and get to keep the glass. I started with the Julian Cider and was sitting at the bar. I struck up a conversation with the lady next to me while she waited for her friends and I waited for mine. The bartenders were extremely friendly and helpful. After my 1st drink that was almost 7% I decided I need a pretzel to soak up some of the booze, I had the Bavarian with spicy mustard, which was excellent. I then ordered the Odell and it matched perfectly with the pretzel. Some friends showed up and I moved to a table with them and finished my pretzel and Odell, while they started with their drinks. I love the special nights they have and them seem to have them once a week or every other. Sometimes it is a glass with purchase or a class or just great info on the beer you are drinking. It is a fun place to sit and talk and hang out, especially the upstairs when it is nice outside and the have it open with the fresh air coming in. Stop by and have a beer and a pretzel and enjoy the atmosphere.

Love this place. Really casual spot for meeting friends. I go here several times a month. Pretzels and dips are great and the beer selection is awesome. I always try to taste new ones each time and the bar tenders are great about helping you find just the right beer. Also anywhere that lets me play cards against humanity and drink in public-- I'm all in.

I really HATE this place. It is impossible to get a beer at the bar, there is no organization whatsoever to the process, the bar staff are uniformly rude and dismissive and their food sucks! Avoid this place at all costs-it is a rat-hole! Too bad because I can walk to it but having tried twice and with the same experience, I will NEVER go back!

  • David S.

The beer selection is a super-5. Lots of rotating taps in a wide range of styles. I had the Kasteel Sour - YUM. The bottled beer available - for drinking there or taking home - is extensive. So nice to see so many beers in one giant refrigerator. I haven't eaten the food yet, but it sounds German-thoughtful and high quality. As for the layout...I don't know...it's a bit drafty. One big space with a door that opens and let's in winter. Nice large community tables, small tables for 2 or 3. Nice people. The beer gets a 5-star rating. The space a 3. Therefore, a 4. Go for the beer and you'll be thrilled you did.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while, and since I had a friend in town we decided to go. It's a longish drive to get there for me (I live in the Northland) but it's a place I will repeatedly go back to! The beer selection is fantastic, and I love that you can peruse the beers in the cooler, choose one, and have them serve it to you. It's a unique idea and I had trouble deciding what I wanted to drink. What Bier Station has going for it in beer, though, it lacks in food. I had an apple grilled cheese sandwich, which was fantastic, but there was a very limited selection of food. I also didn't like that you have to order everything from the bar, even food, but that's just my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed the place and will be making the trip back to try out new beers. It's a fun, laid-back little place that I really enjoyed.

Bier Station is a cool and interesting place. You kind of feel like you're in a bar, but you also feel like you're hanging out in a liquor store. There's a rooftop patio with garage doors that make you feel like you're somewhere completely different. Every day, there are new beers on tap. You can get a glass or you can try a flight of 4...your selection. You could also go to the beer coolers and buy beer to drink there, or buy beer to take home. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I think the prices are fair and reasonable. The food options are good, but slim. They have cheese and charcuterie plates, brats, pretzels, and a few sandwiches. I shared a cheese plate with a friend where we got a choice of three cheeses...we went with the Irish Cheddar, Gloucester, and Brie. The cheese plate came with flatbread crackers as well as peppers and olives. We then split the cheddar and apple grilled cheese which was awesome! For a Tuesday evening, the place was packed so I can only imagine how busy it gets on the weekends.

Ok, I might be a little biased because I know the owners wife - but they are super cool kats and this new type of bar/store is really cool. John has taken a european idea and opened up the best beer store/tasting room in the midwest. I can't believe all the different types of beer available and I know he plans on rotating the taps. I believe that voting online for tap options is in the works. They just opened and so business is hopping and so seating is a little tight now, but I've been assured they are working on that - they just didn't know if people would be more interested in using their spot as a liquor store or drinking hole. But the tables are huge and sturdy and the chairs were super comfy. I like the options of tasters so you can get several pours of beers you have never tried before. I'm hoping he sets up beer flight recommendations- with the option of 4 or 5 for a set price. Also a carrier for the tasters would be nice. I can't wait until spring when the upstairs garage doors can be opened. Stop by and check it out, say hi to John and have a craft beer surrounded by people who love beer!

A bar / beer shop in the early stages of kansas city greatness. Quite small for the time being, I think they opened at the right time. They'll be able to get things going properly and then when summer hits, their patio and rooftop will be an ideal spot to hang. You'll have no worries about obnoxious loud music. The focus here is the beer. I can't wait to see how they expand. It's pretty cool to see that the taplist is ever evolving throughout the night as taps get finished. I hope some of the regional breweries start to send these guys some really rare/unique stuff.

Wonderful ambiance, and potential to be the premier spot in Kansas City for beer aficionados looking for a break from the Flying Saucer. The service was great, the food that we tasted was very tasty, and the coolers were well-stocked. The unique service options added a fun twist to the typical bar or liquor store experience. The only thing holding Bier Station back from a 5-star rating would be the selection of beer on tap (uninspired), the lack of available seating (partly due to the sheer volume of patrons when we were there), the fact that the rare beer they had on tap at the bar was flat (if you're going to go through the trouble of having rare beers, at least do it right), and finally the screens that display the menu had some inaccurate pricing and listed options that were not actually available. Iron out these issues, and Bier Station is easily a 5-star spot worthy of many repeat visits.

I can picture myself spending quite a few evenings here in the future. First, their draft beer selection is delicious. It's a respectable number of taps - maybe 20? - but the selection rotates. They display their "new arrivals" on a tv screen so that it looks like a train schedule. (They also have a "Marienplatz" station sign, which reminds me of Munich, Germany which I very much like.) Second, the staff was amazingly attentive at the bar. While I waited for one as he poured my beer, another saw me and asked to take my order, too. Service! They made great recommendations for me after I explained what types of beer I like. However, my friend tried the same approach and got something she didn't like at all. Third, they serve Farm to Market pretzels. YUM. Finally, they also have beer to-go, and that selection is really big. Picture a gas station beverage cooler, but it's all beer, both six packs and singles. Some you can buy and drink in the store and others you can take with you. The ambiance was really casual, almost rustic. Definitely a good place to hang out with a group of friends who actually want to hear each other speak. TL;DR - good beer and a casual atmosphere make this a great new Waldo hangout spot.

I really am a fan of this place. The concept has a bit of a learning curve to it but once you've figured that out you are good to go. Pull from the cooler and take your selection to the counter to pay-and-go or they will pop-open-and-pour for you to enjoy right there. Don't miss out on the constantly changing taps, 4 oz sample pours are VERY reasonable and a fun way to try new things. I wish more of the on-tap items were available from the cooler. Sometimes you just need a souvenir!

I spent a lovely, unexpected Saturday afternoon at Bier Station. After brunch with friends we all headed over to a nearly empty establishment. We took turns purchasing all kinds of beers, from seasonal pumpkin ales to sour beers, which I didn't even think I liked...until the bartender recommended a bottle of what I think was Rodenbach Grand Cru? I don't know, I could be wrong, but the point is, while boasting several beers on tap, Bier Station also has many bottles of exotic-ish beers that you don't find at the average liquor store. We took over the upstairs deck and played a few hands of "cards against humanity", which was in a stack of games provided by Bier Station. Throughout the afternoon the place became busier, and was actually almost full by the time we left. The only minor inconvenience is that when you buy a bottle it has to be poured by the bartender downstairs, you can't take the bottle up to the deck with you, which was disappointing, because by the time I bought a round and went upstairs, I had forgotten the name of the beer. Otherwise, I definitely anticipate becoming a regular.

I am biased, I know. John lives in my neighborhood, so this has become the neighborhood gem! When the big snow storm hit a week ago, I think the entire neighborhood showed up and John had the bar sing me happy birthday... White Birthday with some good beer? YES PLEASE!! The concept is very cool and unique to Kansas City. Have you been in a liquor store and stood in front of the cooler wondering what a certain bottle tasted like? At Bier Station, you can just grab that, pay for it at the bar and drink it on the spot. My favorite pretzel is potato rosemary, with the garlic aioli. This is my friends' and I's new watering hole and although wearing hats and heavy jackets here for some good times has been amazing this winter, I'm also ready for the spring/summer where we can walk there all the time and enjoy nice weather! Cheers to Bier Station!

We love this place. So many selections of craft beers you'll never sample all of them. We have not sampled the food (yet). They have a collection of board games to choose from if your interested in playing. We sat upstairs, played boggle and sampled beers last time we went. You can drink beer there and/or take bottled beer home. Definitely recommended for those with an adventurous palette.

Bier Station has a great beer selection to enjoy there or take to go and they pour everything in nice glasses (not pint glasses). Prices are not cheap by any means but they don't serve the national 3 "water beers" on tap either. The 4oz pours are great for sampling something new without committing and the beers on tap are always changing even daily during busy times on Friday and Saturday. For food, they have pretzels for munching on which are delicious! Very different, but great environment for enjoying a beer with fellow beer enthusiasts. Also, kids are welcome and can enjoy juice boxes. Bottom line, if you enjoy beer you owe it to yourself to pay Bier Station a visit and sample some beers you can't get elsewhere without the typical bar setting.

We visited on a Saturday mid-afternoon. Not too busy at all. We were greeted by instructions on how to obtain drinks, which was going to the many coolers in the back, picking your choice of beverage and bringing it to the bar to be paid for and poured. They also have several beers on tap. There isn't really a wait staff, but there are several employees who run food ordered at the bar. My husband chose Nebraska and another beer, and enjoyed both. We also ordered pretzels and cheese dip and the special brat of the day (Can't remember the name, but it was in a pretzel bun and good!) along with coleslaw, which was out of this world. Ambiance was good, games available to guests; however, this seems more like a place my hubby would want to visit with his guy friends. We had our five year old son with us and he was kind of bored (as was I). :)

No matter what your preference is in beer, you should be able to find something you will like on tap. If not, there's a HUGE cooler full of beers to choose from. The ordering process can be a little trying at times, but rest assured that they will spend as much time with you as they do the person in line ahead of you! The menu is far from extensive, but Bier Station isn't exactly a dinner and drinks kind of place. So grab a beer (or 3) and a pretzel and sit back and enjoy! For those folks that aren't exactly adventurous beer drinkers, they don't have any of the Big 3 breweries on tap. Don't sweat it! There's no shortage of places in KC to get a Bud Light. Try something new!

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable (and, according to my guy friends, "hot."). It's a cool atmosphere, and the clientele is a nice mix of ages. They have food, but honestly, I didn't see anyone eating it. There's a whole wall of really great beers, and you can do a mix & match six pack. You can buy your beer and leave, or buy your beer and stay. It's a good place to hang out with friends, if a bit pricey.

Great beer selection. I've been to places with more beers, but never to a place with so many I hadn't seen. There is also a nice patio.

Bier station is unlike any other establishment I've been to! They have a very eclectic beer selection on tap and evidently it will rotate. It's a cool place to hang out and visit, or pick up a brew or two for the road - please drive responsibly... At any rate I tried a couple of beers I probably wouldn't have otherwise. I will most definitely be pulling into Bier Station again soon!

My wife and I have been here twice now, and both times we were really pleased. I love the concept of the massive amount of beer selections you have. It can be overwhelming to the inexperienced, and could actually feel myself feeling a little bit sorry for them, but that feeling is fleeting. There is a certain amount of chaos and disorganization to the place, but all you have to do is ask questions. I have always had my questions answered, and the staff has been friendly. If you are a prima dona that needs constant attention and wait staff that is constantly asking if you need something, then do everyone a favor and stay away from here. You need a certain amount of self reliance to survive in this place. Not saying that s bad, it just is what it is. The beer selection is tremendous, and it changes constantly. The food selection is sparse (brats, fresh hot pretzels, meat and cheese plates) but everything has been really good. No complaints on the food. Overall, a great place to hang out, try a few craft beers, snack a bit, and have a good time.

There are brats and grilled sandwiches as well as pretzels to munch on but the varied beers on tap and to go are the real attraction. Great addition to the Waldo neighborhood.

this concept is amazing and the place seems to have good intentions. but if you've never been before, you almost need to do a practice run so you can have it (almost) figured out when you come to drink. It appears to be simple- either order from the bar or grab a beer from the case and they'll open at the bar- IF you have 15 minutes at least to wait for either one. There's no real line, or order to standing at the bar to wait. There's no servers, so this is your only option. And if you trying to figure out what beers are on tap, you better read fast, since the beer signs keep changing. There's no real description of the beers, so if you ask, or want to try one, you'll end up waiting even longer while they move on to help someone else while you're tasting something. I want this place to be great but it's just too confusing, especially after you've had several of these heavy beers- who wants to wait in a long line to get another one, or guess at what kind of beer you're getting? Sometimes too many choices can be a bad thing, unless you're a total beer snob.

This is a great place to go for a beer or two and a small bite to eat. It is not really a place to eat a meal or to stay very long for that matter. The beer selection is second to none and often have beers you wont find elsewhere, however the prices are on the upper end of tolerable. The only food, while extremely tasty, is appetizer like finger food such as pretzels or a meat and cheese plate, they have bratwursts as well. I would highly recommend going here for a drink or two with a friend, but expect to spend about $50 after tip for two people to share some food and have a couple beers a piece.

Great place to try a few new beers. Wonderful atmosphere and everyone who works there is super helpful. Love the concept of picking a bottle and they put it in a glass for you to enjoy.

Hands down, this is my favorite place to grab a craft beer. This place carries a great selection of beers on tap and retail. It's a laid back atmosphere, which is perfect for just about anyone. I've been here on separate occasions with co-workers, my toddler, my friends...This place just works for me. Want to chill with friends, beer, and appetizers? Check Want to play some Settlers of Catan and throw down a beer flight? Check Enjoy a variety of beers with reasonable 4 oz pour prices? Check You can't go wrong with Bier Station, and as long as I live in KCMO, I will frequent this incredible establishment.

First trip to Bier Station was great success! It's been a very long time since I've been to a bar with as many beers I've never tried. Great local selections and great unique selections from around the country (and world!). Lots of different selections for each style of beer also. The prices are on par with everywhere else. You're coming here to get expensive craft beer though, you know that. I did a bunch of the 4oz pours so I could try many different beers. I noticed everyone calling them 1/2 pours when they're really like 1/3 pour? Or even 1/4 pour if we are talking about pints....I digress. I ordered a bratwurst, the Union Station to be specific. It was fantastic, but it was also $8. I love beer and bratwurst and craft/local foods but I almost guarantee I will never find a bratwurst worth $8. All the food was crazy expensive, but hipsters will pay for it..... They had a great firkin tapped while I was here, something you couldn't get anywhere else, literally anywhere, and it was from a Kansas brewery. Awesome. It seemed like Kansas City's entire craft beer community was here when I was. Fantastic place with great beer selections and food selections although expensive, especially on the food side. Bartenders were awesome, even the owner served me a beer or two and was super friendly. You can get beer to go, six packs, bottles, cans, bombers, whatever you want. And they have a super cool "4 season" room even though it was overrun with small children when I went. Still on a quest to find a bar here with 50+ taps but I'm beginning to realize I probably never will.....

Doing an event tonight reading mean posts. Why can't we all be friends. Love is the answer not hate. Drink beer and smile. Enjoy life. Life is to short to be nasty and unfriendly. Let's read happy posts. Happy thoughts. Eliminate negative. Be positive. I am sure this will be damn funny and fun mean can be good mean. Oh and the Bier Station rocks. We are lucky to have it in KC.

Bier Station is a wonderful neighborhood tap room and package store. Sample anything on the wall of 28 rotating taps, then grab a bottle to enjoy at home. They also offer a light menu of sandwiches and sides that complement the brews. One outstanding sandwich is the Harrison, a vegetarian (!) offering that is this meat -eaters favorite. The bartenders are knowledgeable without being pretentious, and very friendly. This is my favorite bar in Kansas City, hands-down.

I think the concept of this place is fantastic. There are SO many different beers to choose from either on tap or from the coolers lining the wall with a ton of bottle options. The price is a little higher than I like to pay, but for the selection, it's a good special occasion place. We got a bunch of food as well and everything was delicious. Friday night got pretty packed, but I saw there was an upstairs patio that we didn't check out. Any place with craft beers and good food is a-okay in my book!

  • Mary M.

Friendly & inviting environment. We come out here all the time to experience selections of local, national & international brews. Taste anything you want before ordering a full pour. They also have coolers to buy selections to take home or even open to enjoy there. Nice german-influenced menu (great soft pretzels). There's always some special event coming up. Check it out, just leave me a pour of sour!

Beer for here or beer to go, it's great concept. It is a great atmosphere and very social. The food is good, a little pricey for what you get. My biggest gripe, the quality of staff has greatly declined. There are a lot of new faces there. The bar staff was not focused on the customers, more so just one or two customers. Getting a beer in a 4oz pour is great option. You get to try a lot of things in one night. All in all, the staff needs to hit the reset button and focus on the customer.

It's Friday after work and my lovely wife and I are looking for a watering hole that has a beer selection as wide as the Missouri River! Bier Station answered this bill...but what is this!?!? I spy on their food menu "Thuringer" bratwurst!! Now to the normal Johnson, Carlson or Smith this isn't a big deal but to this full blooded German with the last name of THURINGER it was fantastic! I have had Thuringer sausage many times before but never a bratwurst so, of course, I had to order one. I chose the "Brookside" which was the Thuringer name sake brat drizzled with wasabi-mayo and topped with ponzu red cabbage slaw. As I waited for my food to arrive I started to fear that this would be a mushy flavorless piece of tube steak and that people who had tried this before had a bad representation of Thuringers everywhere. Just then the magnificent bratwurst arrived. Beautiful presentation, size and portion were as I expected and the brat was nested in a pretzel bun which was delicious. The toppings were abundant but not messy, the wasabi-mayo had a mild kick and the red cabbage added a crunch aspect to the whole meal. Now to the bratwurst itself, it was cooked perfectly and had great flavors. It was juicy and firm like every good brat should be. Yes this bratwurst has lived up to the name that is "Thuringer" and as far as I am concerned they can continue using it on the menu!

While looking for a place to celebrate a friends birthday, we heard about beer station and found a home away from home. Fantastic selection of high quality beer and great service. They give you different options for your drinking experience and cater well to the customers need. As a German national I am very particular about my beer and will make this my go to location !!!

Phenomenal selection of beers. The Peach Cider was one of the best hard ciders I have drank! It paired nicely with the soft pretzels (which come in three flavors and mustard/dipping choices).

Since my first review, I have been back a couple of times. Things have improved, and while I am tempted to give five, I am going to hold one back because of the clientele. Can Bier Station help this? Probably not . . .but it is still a reason why I might choose to go elsewhere if I want a quieter, calmer evening, and this is something you might like to know before planning to come here. Maybe I am really old now . . .I don't feel really old, but I just don't like being around people who a) think they know everything when they know very little but are loud and obnoxious about it and b) drink too much in public and don't go home early enough. In looking around Bier Station during the last hour or so of business, I see a lot of younger people (under 30) who fit both A and B. Again . . .Bier Station doesn't control this. And five years ago, it probably wouldn't have bothered me. What I LOVE about this place: rotating taps, 4 ounce pours, and knowledgeable bartenders. If you can, get a seat at the bar. It's always the best place to sit for great service anyway. I am kind of a light weight, which is why I always stick to beer. It's easy to monitor myself that way. It's even EASIER when I get to try a lot of different beers in four-ounce pours! Now then, I am not exactly a penny-pincher, but I do like to get a good deal. With most of the beers, a four-ounce pour per ounce is about the same as a full pour when pricing by the ounce. Not all beers, but most of them. Anyway, I am able to try some of the higher octane beers this way when I would never order an entire 12-ounce pour due to intoxication threat for me. If you come about an hour before close, the crowd will have thinned out and you can actually carry on a conversation with a drinking companion. I would also like to visit during the day sometime because I think it would be a cool environment for a day drink!

GUYS GUYS GUYS LISTEN TO ME! I love this place, I really do. I've only been twice, but I want to kiss every single one of the bartenders on the mouth and then drink beer with them and then play board games. Seriously, excellent craft beers that come in MULTIPLE SIZES, even SAMPLE SIZES in 4oz for like $1.25 each. How awesome? Oh wait, also the staff is so sweet and accommodating and help you pick out beers to try. A knowledgeable staff! Both times I've gone, they have chosen beers for me that I enjoyed. AND to top it all off, (not including the bad ass patio/roof patio that I have not been on yet) they have fucking board games to play while you're drinking! Pretty sure you could bring your own. I'm definitely going back and will always go back until I die. There's food there, too. Ohmg, and I forgot the bottle shop! haha I don't know how! You can buy bottles to go or you can buy them to drink them there. I love that so much. You have no idea.

I love Bier Station! This is by far my favorite location to go to try new craft beers. They are constantly changing out their beers on tap and they keep a beautiful array of "To Go" beers. The owner and staff are amazing and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to talking shop. They have a very unique keg monitoring system which displays information about each beer on tap, it even includes the color of the beer! Terrific place, and while the food menu is limited it is all great quality! Nothing bad to say about this establishment at all. Keep up the great work!

I'm on a mission to try all the craft brewery places in the KC area so we came here as a fairly new craft brew newbie because of their huge selection and the interactive digital what's on tap board which I found extremely helpful making choices on what to try. If I couldn't decide the friendly bartenders were experts in describing each one of them and encouraged trying samples so you get the right one. I LOVE that they have 4oz pours since some the the craft brews are pretty hefty in ABV%. I felt like I could try more and still walk out of there! The food was great too! My boyfriend and I shared several different pretzels which were hot, fresh and had delicious dipping sauces. We also shared a Japanese style brat which was super yummy. People around us all seemed to enjoy the sandwiches. The food came out quick too! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Amazing place. Great beer selection, decent food but truly go for the beer. A true gem that opened less than a month before we moved to KC from Chicago. Previously Michiganders (one of the best beer states, I would argue the best :)) Bier station keeps us with a solid beer selection that we've become accustomed to...better than flying saucer, yard house, antons, grinderz because they love what they do and it shows. The staff will act indifferent at times and their ordering system could use some organization but I would suffer that a thousand times to have the variety of great beers blocks away from home.

Ah yes, I finally (FINALLY) got to Bier Station. And it was glorious. We rolled in around 3pm on a Friday, and it was dead. We stuck to drinks, and scoped out the 30 or so beers on tap. They were all craft, and pretty decent, so my cousin got one from the tap. I, on the other hand, loved the idea of being able to buy a bottle, big or small, and either (a) drink it there, or (b) bring it home for about $2 (on average) cheaper. So I grabbed a 750mL and took it to the bar. The guy didn't pour it the best so it took a while to come up. But after that it was constantly refilled. All of the bartenders were friendly and really seemed to know their beer. I didn't taste any food, but it looked pretty good and I'll have to return. Parking looks like it could be really cramped on a busy evening, so be prepared. But at 3pm on a Friday, it's wide open! You best enjoy good beer here. It's not a place to get Bud, Coors, or even Guinness (and I LOVE Guinness). It's a craft beer bar in every way, and their selection is quite excellent, ranging from local to global...though domestic crafts certainly do rule the place.

Now I know why my friends that live in the neighborhood frequent this place. Cool vibe, choice of atmosphere, good beer selection and friendly, fun and knowledgeable bartenders. Need I say more? Worth a trip regardless of where you live in the city or even if you are just visiting.

Great place to have a beer and friendly conversations. A great neighborhood gastropub! Very knowledgeable staff and great beer selection. The food selection is not large but what they do serve up is tasty! I had a Bavarian pretzel last time I was there and I 100% enjoyed it:)! I will be back for sure. If you haven't been, it is worth a visit for sure!

My favorite time to be at Bier Station is on weekend afternoons. It's super chill, the bartenders are really friendly & helpful with beer suggestions, & the atmosphere is comfortable & pleasant. I love its board with beer & descriptions. It is very interactive & modern. They also have a great selection of bottled beer to bring home after finishing up there. I'd recommend this bar for a hangout with friends. The only reason why it isn't a five star review is due to the prices.

Their rotating taps are arguably the best in KC. I've had quite a few good brews here that--after a lot of searching-- I couldn't find anywhere else in the city. Add a friendly/knowledgable staff, excellent atmosphere and a nice, diverse crowd and you have one of my favorite spots in KC.

My introduction came via a work friend after a particularly frustrating day, so I was well in need of a drink. Right from the start I knew I would like this place. The seating varies and there's a great patio on the 2nd floor. Leaning against the entry is a rather inviting stack of boardgame and we saw several groups playing throughout the evening. The tap selection is kinda limited for a BierHouse but their bottle selection blew me away! Finally, the service was excellent. We ordered a flight and selectee 3 of the 4. We told the bartender to surprise us and he sure delivered! I actually ordered a 16oz of his selection for our 2nd round. My only regret is not trying the food... I guess I'll have to go back!

This place is excellent. If you like beer you will love this place. Its pretty simple. They have beers on tap that they change daily. But there are also bottle beers and you can take them home or you can have them here. You pay a little more to enjoy them here but thats awesome you have a choice.

My neighbors have been trying to get my husband and I to Bier Station for months and after finally going this weekend I am so upset I hadn't gone before! There are tons and tons of beer to order from the bar. I love that there is a 4oz. option to allow for you to explore so many from the tap list. There's also a huge cooler of beer for you to either have them pop open or pack to take home. We will be back often and hope to check out the upstairs area next time.

  • Chris M.

I really want to love this place, but I find it hard to. The concept is great, with the ability to choose from a wide selection of both draft and bottled beers to drink on premise, or grab some bottles to go. The downside happens to be that this place is just too busy to offer good service in their current format. It appears that all sales go through the bar, which creates a major bottleneck. There is no waitstaff, so you have to leave your friends and stand in line for your next beer. I'd be more accepting of the lack of table service if I thought that it led to lower prices, but the prices here seem high. Based on the crowd this place attracts at least I know they won't miss my business.

Beer, beer, and more beer. More choices than you could ever need and if the tap list isn't good enough you can grab a bottle out of their fridges! They have a great selection of beers from all over and always have a good sampling of all the different types of beer. Their upstairs patio area is great for small groups. They don't serve full meals but have fantastic pretzels. It is a great place to go with friends if you want great beer and an atmosphere for good conversation.

Bier Station is such welcome relief from overcrowded and deafening bars. This is the kind of place you meet up with a friend, or get a group together and take over one of the Munich-style tables. Honestly, this is the way I wish the majority of bars are, as it serves as more of a neighborhood hangout. The tap list is always revolving, which allows you to branch out and try something new each time. The food does not revolve, and that's great because everything I have tried is worth being on the menu full time. (Bavarian pretzel + Brat w/brie and apple slices) Riding my bike up here on a warm night reminds me of the slow and easy pace of a college town in the summer, and this is a welcome addition to the area that's going to continue to attract a good crowd as the word gets out.

Like other downtown/midtowners have mentioned, the only bad thing about this place is that is it so damn far! But in spite of the distance, my boyfriend and I love making the 20 minute drive to grab a delicious and refreshing craft brew and a hot and juicy sausage (yeah, I said it!) They get their sausages from Affäre, first golden star, and they serve them on the most delicious Farm to Market pretzel buns (second golden star). Their pretzels and dipping sauces are served warm and are amazing (numbero tres)! One of my favorites though, the Cheese + Charcuterie, simple and delicious (star number four). Their drink here or grab and go coolers are awesome as well. If you can't find something that strikes your fancy in 21+ brews on tap, grab a bottle and have the bartender pop it open for you. (5 stars for the WIN!) This is the kind of place where there are no servers, you stalk people's table and line up at the bar, but I think that's what's so great about it. It's not pretentious and doesn't pretend to be something it's not. We're contemplating moving to Brookside just to be closer to this KC gem!

So I've been to the Bier Station a few times. Sometimes it's really packed and difficult to get a seat or served a beer. Sometimes it quieter and really easy to get a beer. They have a nifty upstairs areas with lots of windows to sit and get away from the hustle and bustle downstairs. They have fridges full of delicious beer that you can drink there or take him. They have a group of staff who are as funky and fun as the beer (beir?) they serve. Did I mention the food? It's pretty a-ok. But I am not reviewing the Bier Station based on all of that - though that is enough. I am reviewing it based on their Zwanze Day extravaganza on Saturday, September 20th. A little background. Zwanze day is a special day in which Brasserie Cantillon in Brussels, Belgium releases a rare beer at a limited number of locations world wide. This year, Bier Station was one of those places. Last year, Kansas City didn't have a bar to serve due to some issues the previous year. Now, I haven't ever participated in the Zwanze Day - and honestly I'd never heard of it before last year - cause you know I don't even like beer ;) - so I didn't know exactly what to expect. But I have to say, the Bier Station and their crew did it up right. They have two shifts for the release - 2pm and 3pm. And then at 4pm they opened things up to the general public. They sold tickets prior for $14 and this guaranteed you the Zwanze Day pour ($4 for GA). My man friend and I arrived around 1:40, got our wrist bands and walked right in - to awesome. We sat at the bar and got the hook up from KC and the other biertenders. Srsly. Very well organized, beers were pre-poured (which is good to give them some time to warm up and develop). There was no pushing, no shoving and the service was excellent. After we had our fill, we left the bar to open up the seats to others and chatted with other beer lovers. We did get in line to get one more round and it took minimal time. They were serving a special Zwanze Day menu which included wraps and some other delights. Here is the list: WRAPS ($7) BLT with avocado, sprouts & pesto aioli -Egg salad with Belgian endive -Charcuterie wrap with proscuitto, brie, sopressata, apple, arugula & strawberry Dijon. -Garden wrap with hummus, roasted red pepper, pickled red onion, pickled radish, arugula & feta -Smoked turkey, smoked provolone, with a corn, red pepper, red onion relish & pesto aioli SIDES ($3) -Creamy cucumber salad -Belgian potato salad It all looked legit to me. Anyway, 5 stars for this well oiled production. So many things could have gone wrong but it was smoother than...well, it was smooth. GO BIER STATION! :) okaybye.

By far one of the best craft beer bar/liquor store/eatery around. Rotating taps and a very wide selection of bottled or can beer. This is my go to spot for out of town guests to enjoy some great service, good food, nice atmosphere and most important fantastic beer! I highly recommend the beer flights as you can try a little bit of something different with each flight and it won't busy your wallet if there is one you don't like. If you are like me though, you enjoy beer! Definitely a must stop as often as feasible, I know I do.

First visit to Bier Station tonight after wanting to get there for a beer and nosh. Couple positives and negatives after my first time: Pros - GREAT beer selection, pretzels (three different styles) and dipping sauce (multiple varieties), and Waldonian atmosphere. The prices are are liquor store comparable for the take out and restaurant comparable for staying in. No surprise here Cons - I like to have a plan when I try something for the first time. I walked into Bier Station and didn't know what to do. There was a good crowd at the bar and beer fridges on the right. They've got a big chalk board that explains the procedures that began to assuage my confusion. Pick any bottle and take it to the bar to be opened and poured into a glass (if you're staying.) Or grab a sixer or two, pay for it at the bar and make your way home to get hammered. Total sausage fest when I arrived tonight. Only two women in the bar and my wife made three. She was clearly uncomfortable not seeing more women at the shop, though more filed in later. Some folks came in with kids too - I really don't feel like a bottle shop/bar is a place for a kid, IMO. Finally, a little slow at the bar. I had to really resist the urge to crack the top off my beer instead of waiting for the bartender to do it for me. Granted, they have to scan it, then pour it, and account for it, Understandable, but a little clumsy in the protocol department. I'll be back to try some more brews or catch a Royals game at the bar.

Even though Bier Station opened a few years too late for me to fully appreciate all it has to offer (thanks to my breakup with barley and wheat a few years ago), I still anxiously awaited their opening, AND have been thrilled with what has come to fruition for this very unique to Kansas City local business nestled between Brookside & Waldo. The selection of both the taps, & what is in the coolers is superior. I will be sending all of our out of town guests to Bier Station to pick up some beer when they ask where to go. And to my surprise, they even have a rather impressive cider selection as well. The food menu has recently expanded some, now including bratwursts from Affare (which are outstanding). If you are looking for a place to pick up a great selection of beer for yourself or a gift, this is the place. If you want to have a relaxing beer and a snack in a comfortable environment, this is also your place. The taps are rotating. And if you follow Bier Station on Facebook, they are consistent about posting incoming & outgoing taps. I feel very fortunate to have something like this in my own neighborhood. Definitely a gem for the area. And a place I will frequent, even if I do get beer envy as I peruse the selection.

I just did take out here, but they have a dizzying array of brews to drink and to go. The pricing is tiered as well... more if you stay, less if you go. Just like an Italian cafe. LOL I tried the new Grainslayer Rye IPA from Boulevard... delicious. A great thing about this concept is you can try it before you buy a lot of it. You will never be disappointed when you get home that way. I am very glad this business model is here in Waldo. Missouri liquor laws are ridiculously complicated... I am thrilled the state has seen fit to allow a business that actually makes sense!!!

Incredible beer selection and surprisingly good (simple) food. They have really delish sandwiches, pretzels and tots.

A small menu but defiantly something for everyone's taste buds! This place is great! The design is what you would expect from a place called "Bier Station" Germany meets beer. How could this not be a great place? Downstairs was full so we went upstairs and sat at a long table. The guys ordered beers and the bar tender was very helpful to help them decide which beers they would like from the tap. (Most of them they'd never heard of). They got pretzels and dip too - I [being on a diet at the time] was discouraged I couldn't eat any of it but then discovered the cucumber salad, the side salad, and the couscous on the side menu. I ordered all three and was very surprised at the quality and quantity. I can't wait to go back and try more food from the menu.

It was a long workday, and cold to say the least. One of my girlfriends asked me if I wanted to grab a beer after work. Of course I can't turn that down. Now where to go? She suggested that we try Bier Station. I've never even heard of it before, but I was intrigued. This bar is very new - like just opened end of Dec. 2012 new. When we got there, we went straight to the bar to check out what was all on tap. YES, good craft beers on tap. NOW we're talkin. I love IPA's and dark German beers, it's my weakness I guess. I tried an IPA on tap and meh, it wasn't for me. The bartender was kind enough to let me switch it out at no charge. So I had the Schneider Aventinus on draft...and wow. Where has this been all my life?? Amazing, you've got to try it. Just beware, after the first beer, you're already feelin it! (That's a good thing, right??) Loved the atmosphere and the service was great.

Went here with my toddler and husband on a Saturday afternoon. We were immediately greeted by the owner, who introduced himself, explained how to order and suggested we try the upstairs patio since kids usually enjoy it. We did just that and my son had lots of fun. Great beer selection, and we enjoyed both on tap selections and grabbed a couple 6 packs for home. Some of the beers they had in stock were not commonly found in liquor stores in Lawrence or even Johnson County (Michigan breweries like Bells, for example). We will be back with friends!

I think I have found my Nirvana. I visited here on a Saturday afternoon for the first time with a group of friends. The cooler of beer, for on site or take home enjoyment, is very eclectic and has great signage (tells you the abv, ibu, and descriptions of all the selection). If you prefer a draft, they have so many that they have to have a scrolling screen. The bartenders are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Not only do they have an amazing beer selection, they also have an amazing upper deck, with garage doors to orb when the weather is nice. They have games you can play... nothing is better than some great beers in a sunny spot, playing Cards Against Humanity with friends. I will be back soon and often.

The worst thing about this place? It's too dang far from my home, so I can't fully enjoy it without hunting down a DD or racking up a gigantic cab fare. Other than the fact that they so rudely didn't it build it near my home, this place is A-OK! So, it's a beer shop AND a bar, get it? You can buy any of their bottles to stay or go, and the prices are clearly marked for each scenario. I'm sure people in the area are happy to have such a complete and thoughtful beer shop, because they really do have a huge variety. Coming from somebody that once-upon-a-time managed a very popular beer bar, I can say that I would have been quite proud of this selection. Food options are somewhat limited, but they can still keep you fat and happy. It's all very German, with brats and pretzels and so forth. I've loved all the brats I've had there, but I can't speak for anything else. On my most recent visit I did see that they were serving spaetzle, which happens to be one of my favorite foods of all time. I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later to try that out. I suspect it might just be for Oktoberfest, so I'll be going back quickly. What I REALLY like about this place is the awesome community, laid-back vibe. It's incredibly welcoming, whether you are on their dog-friendly front patio, inside their main area, or upstairs at their all-weather beer garden. I'd probably prefer hanging out upstairs, but that's just me. The ordering system does take a bit of a learning curve, as you go and get your own beers but bring them to the bartenders to ring up and open for you. BTW, the bar staff here is rad. Great guys and ladies who know a ton about beer but are approachable and friendly. Let them pick something out for you! Moral of the story: I'm a pretty dang big fan of Bierstation, but not huge cab fares so I don't make it often. That shouldn't stop you.

Very busy on a Saturday night, but we luckily squeezed into a table. I like the open layout, but the seating area is pretty tight for the overflowing crowd the a weekend. The German theme is obvious from the Marienplatz tiles behind the bar to the offerings of various Bavarian pretzels for snacking. First off, I love the huge variety of beer. The fact you can get a small or large pour from the 21 taps and also bottles from the fridge is awesome. The tapped beers weren't cheap with nothing under $5.50 and most around $8, but they had a solid line-up with only a few of the beers that you'd find at most bars (i.e. Guiness). Secondly, I love the bottle selection even more- at around $10-11 they had some nice 750ml to share. You can also have them wrapped to go. I look forward to coming back during nice weather so I can enjoy the beer garden.

My family moved to Waldo a year before this place opened, and on our walks we always said how the location would make a great beer spot. Well it happened and the owners have done a great job. We come here at least twice a month, and especially when it snows, since it is walking distance. We have come here so often we wish they had a larger food selection or a changing selection of main dishes, what they do is fantastic though. The owners are always polite, professional, and welcoming. I have noticed a few of the bartenders still need to refine their customer service skills.

LOVE this place. Always an amazing selection on tap, and in bottles to go. The menu is constantly evolving, along with this place in general. Bier Garden is awesome, love the outside seating in the summer, you can have your dogs with you and have a beer!

This may have been a better experience if I could drink beer. Instead, it led to finding out the bartenders are not very knowledgeable about the beers they serve. Once I noticed they only served beer and the bartender confirmed that, I asked if they had something that was low in carbonation. The bartender responded, 'low carb, that shouldn't be a problem.' He then turned around staring at the beer taps with no clue. I ignored how he turned low carbonation to low carb because I was afraud of a who's on third conversation. Another guy behind the bar pointed at a selection with the comment, maybe, maybe not. The guy getting my beer responded, that's what I was thinking. My confidence level was not high, luckily my tummy responds pretty quick so I know. He gave me a taste and it wasn't bad. He also gave me a taste of another one. It was good also, but neither seemed to be something I wanted to sip on for the evening. I commented I didnt know on either and the bartender responded, 'no problem won't hurt my feelings.' Really? I probably would have stayed and got a water or tea and something to eat, but the entire interaction was poor and they didn't win my business at all.

The bier station is an awesome place for beer with a chill vibe. But tonight we went for the Hawaiian specials. Beertinis and Hawaiian food. Drinks week and over priced. Ham and cheese sandwich with pineapple is Hawaiian? Really? Come on. 4 minutes on the internet.......avoid the specials and stick with their strengths. Great selection of beer.

Great selection on tap to try in-house and of bottles to take along.

Great beer, shitty servers. As pretentious and insidious as Starbucks baristas. Seriously lacking in social etiquette that would promote customer retention.

Tip top beer selection. There are TONS of places in town who boast massive beer selections, but this place carries a unique, prime selection that is always changing on tap. The "drink here or to go" selection in the coolers is also quite amazing and often has some rare and unusual items trickle into it. I love coming in and buying a pour while I shop the cooler on a slow day.

When you give them your card they put a pre authorization on your card which can be 3x the amount of the beer! Been almost a week and still haven't refunded me...

Bier Station boasts one of Kansas City's most ambitious tap line-ups and compliments it with a robust selection of bottled craft beer options. The food is pretty standard bar fare, but in a town where nearly every bar serves bavarian pretzels the delicious soft pretzels at Bier Station tower above the rest.

Would totally love one of these in Memphis! Bier Station is a unique beer garden that has almost all of their beers bottled and in a cooler. Think gas station coolers, but each slot holds a different beer, and it covers an entire wall! WHAT?! I'm the kind of person that, sadly, chooses many a beer/alcohol based on the bottle/label. I loved that I could stand at the cooler and pick what I wanted. So many to choose from. What I thoroughly disliked about Bier Station is that you have to take the bottle to the bar and let them pour it for you. My hotel has a bar, and I understand that some state liquor laws are really strange, but there is no way that it's the law that the joint has to open your beer for you. Also, their menu was kind of lame...however, I wasn't really there for the food anyway, so it wasn't that big a deal. Get the jalapeno pretzels with cheddar sauce if you go! The staff are decently friendly. The woman who poured my drinks the most often was fun to talk to. Unfortunately, they actually have a bar to sit at in addition to their tables and outdoor patio, and since you have to take your drink to the counter to have it poured, it's counterintuitive...I have to elbow my way through people just to drink a beer I already have in my hand?!? Come on. Because the idea of this place kicks so much butt, I am giving it 4 stars, but it isn't entirely customer friendly. I lose my buzz just waiting for someone to give me a glass. There's got to be a better system.
