Unexpected in small town.Just passing through on our way back to Columbia, MO. Pros: service, presentation, food quality, cost, decor. Cons: none but portion size a little big for me. Took half of mine home. It has been in business since August 2014. I hope they can survive in a small town.

I didn't expect such fine dining off this stretch of highway. We pulled off 110 on the way to Chicago at my Dad's behest. I was concerned we would eat at something like Cracker Barrel until we yelped this gem. It has few reviews but it really deserves every 5-star review that it's received. Enjoy sophisticated takes on familiar dishes with superb execution, presentation and ambience for a price that is very reasonable in relation to the level of cuisine. I'm only sad we had to eat and get back the highway rather than hanging out, try some appetizers and dessert.

Fabulous restaurant which was a welcome respite on a super hot day. It could have been a little cooler outside but I am sure it's hard to combat 96 degree heat. This delightful refuge is on the same street as all the quilt stores. It is a tad pricey but worth every penny. My husband and I had appetizers, sandwiches and dessert. No coffee which is unusual for me but did I mention it was hot outside? Everything was perfect, the service was super friendly and the seats comfortable. If I am ever back in Hamilton (fingers crossed) I would love to eat here again.

Blue Sage is worth your trip of you are anywhere close to the area. The interior speaks for itself. The chef designed everything from top to bottom, menu and decor. You know how you ask your waiter sometimes what they recommend and they tell you that everything is good? In this case it is absolutely true. All the main dishes I have tried are top notch - creative but familiar so that there are options for everyone. My favorites so far are the horseradish calamari, the tri tip, and the cordon bleu.

Came to town to go quilt shopping and had to stop by this place again. I was here in January and have really enjoyed it both times. Last time the risotto was delicious. This time I had pot pie and it was amazing. There was a buttery crispy crust on top. The potato and bacon soup was a little too bacony. The berry lava brownie tasted amazing but was a little grainy. This is definitely a place to eat when quilt shopping.

Who would have expected such a wonderful boutique-y type restaurant in downtown Hamilton Missouri? We were a party of 7 on a Thursday night and were greeted immediately. We started with a lobster spinach dip with house made potato chips that was delicious and with a charcuterie platter featuring cured meats, cheese and house made dill pickles that are some of the best pickles I've ever eaten in my life! For entrees we had pork shank, chicken spinach lasagna, 2 beef stroganoffs, 2 chicken pot pies and a chicken focaccia sandwich. Everyone raved about their meals. My pot pie could have had larger chunks of chicken but oh my, the flavor was amazing!! So, so good. Delicious sauce with what I'm sure was fresh corn, topped with light puff pastry, garlic mashed potatoes and two fresh carrots that were loaded with flavor. I tried the beef stroganoff with homemade noodles and it was fantastic, too. It had a light flavorful sauce instead of the traditional creamy gravy. We are waiting now for banana brûlée cream pie and chocolate caramel lava cakes. Hamilton Missouri has another destination now besides the Missouri Star Quilt Company empire. Fabulous!!!

Very tasty food. And an awesome atmosphere. You don't see this caliber in the Midwest often

A wonderful experience. The food is fabulous and the portions are large I took a half of mine home. Our daughter had chicken pot pie and it was so unusual but so good. The presentation on the salads what spectacular, and even the bread and butter was something we wanted more of. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone going through that area or even a special trip.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. The offerings comprise refreshing spins on traditional dishes. This place is a real gem in the middle of small town Missouri. I would recommend Blue Sage to anyone looking for a quality dining experience.

Who knew just last year that Hamilton would be home to a great restaurant? One of the joys of rural European travel is finding a charming restaurant in a village that has both delightful hosts and superb food. Now Hamilton, Missouri is gaining on the charm quotient with both its shops and the Blue Sage. Let me start from the re-designed exterior to its completely updated interior. The Blue Sage is built for both locals who know good food and out-of-town guests looking for something beyond the small town café. The exterior has been updated to invite guests in. There is no doubt from the outside that the Blue Sage is different. Once in - while deliberately designed to appear somewhat rustic, it is only by plan. The striking design is both classic Americana but also influenced by European cafes with both direct and indirect lighting. I do like the open kitchen as well. Now to the fare. When I first met chef Chad Rigby, I cautioned him that I would be severely disappointed to find iceberg lettuce in his salads. I know that sounds like snobbery, but you don't find iceberg lettuce in great restaurants other than - maybe -- a quarter head with real blue cheese not from a bottle. Chef Chad did not disappoint. Their "Rustic Garden Fare" is superb. We have shared an enjoyable grilled coconut berry salad with chicken. We have also shared selections from the Charcuterie selections of cheeses and meats. I was delighted by finding a British stilton and Spanish manchego mixed among local cheeses. I know of few restaurants that offer chorizo from Spain and prosciutto from Italy. Are you catching my drift? We have not sampled the focaccia paninis, but we have ordered several entrees. Before I discuss the food, I want to discuss the plating. Presentation divides the merely good restaurants from the great ones. The Blue Sage practices good plating and presentation, and while Presentation isn't "everything," it's a distinguishing marker. For example, I have discussed the creative rural presentation at the Red Shanty, but they don't plate for presentation. Plating is a chef's, not a cook's, trademark. Now to the fare. The first entrée I tried was the artichoke and lobster stuffed salmon. It was grilled to perfection - not over-cooked, which is all too common. The stuffing and reduction was savory, making this my favorite so far. I have also enjoyed the French cut pork chop, again grilled to perfection and not over-cooked as is typical. The stuffing (and I'm not usually a stuffing fan) was very savory as was the berry coulis reduction. My partner-in-dining enjoyed her chicken linguine to the very end - no take home as usual! The linguine features basil pesto cream, asiago breaded breaded chicken tomato fresca and balsamic reduction. As for desserts, we will have to report back! The generous portions left no room for reporting on desserts, but they look intriguing! The bottom line: I'll enthusiastically match the Blue Sage to any Westport restaurant and to most of the plaza. What is different from the plaza is not the quality, but the price for food that is both great and well-presented. While more expensive than a typical rural café, there is simply no comparison. This is a downtown KC experience in rural Hamilton, so you'll save on drive time and expense. I'm looking forward to the next step: wine and craft beers, which I'm told is coming soon.

Blue Sage is delicious home cooked food. I loved the environment and the food arrived hot and fresh at my table. Great place to eat, we were there for lunch but would love to go back for dinner.
