This place has always had amazing food and good service but I stopped going about a year ago because I couldn't stand the horrible cigarette smoke. Seems I always got a table next to someone who didn't want to breathe the carcinogens they had just inhaled so they would inevitably blow their smoke back over their shoulder in our booth. Seriously. Anyway, I called the other day in hopes I would learn the ownership had come to their senses and to my surprise I got the good news. Yep, they are non-smoking! Better eat here now before the word spreads and it becomes too busy to get a table. House special pork-chops are amazing. Best brisket sandwich ever. Same for the BBQ beans and twice baked potato. Hats off to the ownership for making this gutsy move!!!

Great hamburger....I mean truly special. I have mine with bacon and swiss. So pleased this place is non-smoking now. If they would update the interior, improve the lighting and create some pleasant white-noise, you'd have a real value. As-is, it's slightly overpriced. But man, I dig that burger.

Ate here once in a friends recommendation, the prime rib was clearly a re-heat from the night before. Grey and overcooked. No excuse just a poor attempt to unload the leftovers. Not willing to give them another try

The good was amazing! We had the Cajun Cod and the artichoke chicken...so yummy! Portions were almost too large but that's ok have my midnight snack already planned for my left overs. Loved to home made salad dressings both the Italian and citrus vinegar were delish

The food is always amazing at Mad Dog and Cats. Large portions are to be expected. I would highly recommend the brisket and the cod sandwiches. The atmosphere used to be disgusting with all the smokers at the bar, and I've smoked a few cigarettes worth of second hand smoke there. I was elated to see that recently the establishment was made smoke free and the hours were changed to reflect a restaurant rather than a bar. Before the improvements it would have been a 3 1/2 but now it is five.

Nice neighborhood bar serving standard bar fare. A bit on the expensive side, $13.75 for Fish 'en chips? Beef Brisket w/au jus was merely sliced beef, decent but not brisket. A .50 upcharge for horseradish is unacceptable, especially at $10.25 a pop!

This place has amazing food, but I won't be going back unless its a takeout order. I have been to Mad Dog & Cats for lunch, mid and late afternoon, and evening and each time I walk out smelling like a giant cigarette. The smoke smell inside the restaurant is too overwhelming to thoroughly enjoy the food. The food, however, is quite good. I can't say I've had a meal there that wasn't fantastic. But when you walk out with your clothes, body, hair, hands, and even socks reeking of foul cigarette smoke it takes away from the goodness of the food. If it was non-smoking I would give this place 5 stars easily, but with the cigarette smoke its at best three stars. Do yourself a favor: order your food to go and eat at home so you don't have to taste cigarette smoke with each bite. Okay..I very seriously am off to take a shower to get the cigarette smoke smell out of my hair. Disgusting.

We live very close to this restaurant and frequent there every other month or so. We go more in warm weather when one of the outdoor tables are available. The bar and dining tables are very close together and the smoke can be very intense inside. We have never had a bad meal here. They consistently deliver on flavor and value. The wait staff are attentive. Great neighborhood place, just wish that fewer of those neighbors were smokers.

Great food at this place. Everything we get is always awesome. Menu is more than basic and the cooks execute well. Early dinner specials are killer deals for the quality of food.

You have to like second-hand smoke to enjoy this place. Chicken sandwich was good but cod was not prepared in-house. Tasted like frozen Gortons from Schnucks. Will I go back...uh...no.

The Food is perfect Bar food. They also have nice dinner items if a sandwich isn't what ya want. They have a nice early bird menu they you can take advantage of. The reason I gave it a 4 was because the place can get pretty smokey from the Cigs. That being said the food is worth it and if its nice out you can sit outside. The service is good even when there is 1 or 2 bartenders waiting on the whole place.
