For Missouri the sushi is not bad...its also not great

Made a 6:30 reservation. Was seated at 7:30. Dinner at 8:30. Ordered steak & chicken and only got steak they corrected my bill. The young lady at the front desk was very nice. Well not come back.

This place is pretty decent for CoMo standards. We got a Japanese cook at our table so that made it a little bit more authentic. The sushi here is average and the habachi here isn't so bad. I'd definitely go for the shrimp or pork. Our beef was a little tough and chewy. I guess that's why there is a premium option on the menu. Ordering fried rice for an extra $1 is way better!

I really like Kobe and have had good experiences with the service and food quality. I even got my family to come with me once to try the hibachi grill and they thought it was really nice. I mostly go there myself for the sushi and it's been pretty tasty every time. The price is about average for sushi too and they have a lot of interesting roll creations to try out. Another thing I like about this restaurant is the decor. I think it gives the place an inviting atmosphere with low lighting and plants everywhere. The staff has always been really friendly as well.

This was and is one of my favorite hibachi spots, being that everyone is served an endless amount of fantastic food at a reasonable price. We were always told not to play with our food but here it is acceptable and welcomed by the creative chefs entertaining you with their artistic cooking skills. The chefs are usually fantastic entertainers that have fun with what they are doing and who they are serving. A star is lost due to the poor waiter/host service I receive here on a regular basis. Drinks come slow and service is solely regulated based on the amount of people in the restaurant. Usually slow service is more acceptable when a restaurant is jam-packed, but when a hostess lets someone else have your table or forget to call your name then it becomes rude and ridiculous. Overall, I would still rate this is a great lunch or dinner spot because it is a great ambience with a truly fun and unique dining experience.

My Fiancé and I have eaten here probably 5 times since moving to Columbia this past year. We usually have a decent experience, but our most recent time (July 7) was pretty bad. When we arrived one of the hostesses was belittling a hostess who appeared to be training. Everyone on staff seemed to be in bitter moods. The chef cooked the wrong food for me (though our waitress took it down correctly) and when the check came we let her know that the order was wrong and we'd like to be charged for what we were served, not what we ordered and never got. The manager told us it was our fault for not speaking up, but by the nature of the restaurant we were already half done eating by the time I got the wrong meet. In the end the manager told us he'd make up for the mistake by discounting our meal. I fail to see how charging me for the food we were served rather than what we ordered as a "discount."

Love love the sushi

Our server was Rashi. The service was absolutely terrible the entire time. When we first arrived, we were given the choice of hibachi grill or regular dining. When we said habachi, the hostess was very flustered and had us wait to see if a server could take our table. Why give us the option if there's no one to serve us in the hibachi area? Eventually we were seated and placed our drink orders. No exaggeration we waited 10-15 minutes just for our waitress to bring us water. By this time, more people has been seated with us. The waitress told the table she was also hostessing, so bear with her if she was slow. Slow is an understatement. We sat there at least 20 more minutes before our order was ever taken. When she brought our sushi, she brought all the sushi for the table on one plate, and said they were "out of plates" so they had to put it all on one. We didn't know the people at our table, so we were expected to share food with strangers?! Also, there were 10 empty plates sitting on the two empty tables by us, so they obviously didn't "run out" of plates. When our food was finally getting cooked, we found out the orders were written down wrong for the chef. The waitress didn't circle fried rice on our orders, so we didn't get our rice. And someone else at our table got chicken and shrimp instead of steak. The waitress came back and asked everyone for their orders again at the end of the meal before she brought the checks because she "screwed up some of the checks". Even after that, almost everyone's checks were wrong. I understand being flustered and being busy, but there were not that many people coming in that were keeping her busy as a hostess and being busy doesn't excuse being clueless and not knowing what's going on. This was the worst service we have ever experienced at any restaurant. The only saving grace was that the food was excellent and the hibachi chef who cooked our food was excellent as well.

Made a reservation for Valentine's Day, a busy day I understand very well having worked in the business, so I expected a crowd. What I didn't expect was their inability to book correctly. We arrived for our reservation only to find people with reservations an hour and a half before ours were still waiting to be seated!!! It's Valentine's Day not like we can just go anywhere else. It's now 45 minutes that we've been waiting. Don't know what food is like. I do know I won't be back!

This is a very generous 2 stars. The service was absolutely horrendous. I was sitting for nearly 5 minutes before the bartender walked over and said "I'm not your server, but I can get you something to drink". Another 5 minutes later, my apparent server (who never introduced herself or even smiled for that matter) handed me a menu. When she did take my order, I asked her what the special was. She never offered any drinks to me, never asked how my meal was... I mean really? The food wasn't too bad, considering, and saved this from a 1 star review. Never going there again, though.

In a Kobe v. Osaka battle in Columbia, I'd side with Osaka, but only narrowly. Both restaurants turn out satisfying cuisine and, with the right expectations, are decent options for either grill-side or table dining. At Kobe, there seems to be a little more emphasis on the hibachi grills and, especially if you haven't seen it before, the show cooking is a fun experience in and of itself. Neither place is particularly upscale, but is fine to be used for "occasional" dining (read: date night, birthday with friends, special dinner for the kids, etc). Prices are comparable. Each of the chefs here (as with many places) has his own personality: ours fit our mixed table (a younger married couple, an older married couple, and a small family birthday party) well by being a little more low-key. Applauding and playing along is allowed (some chefs will even encourage it), but again, the style of the show is largely arrived at somewhere between what the chef prefers and what the diners provide energy-wise. There are a number of predictable parts, from the initial fire blast from the grill, to the "choo-choo"/volcano onion, to the morsel tossing. Knife tricks, feats of hand-eye coordination and corny jokes are par for the course, and to be expected. I appreciated that ours took a particular interest in the actual cooking demo that he was putting on, even answering some of our questions about the knife he was using (a cheap blade that he kept in his arsenal because of the unique condition of cutting on metal all day. Using a nicer tool would've been dull, pun intended). The major advantage of grill-side dining is that the food doesn't have to suffer the pass. "Sure", any mistakes made aren't going to get caught, and the presentation may not be the nicest, but those precious seconds/minutes of waiting for a server to deliver the dish are kept with the food to delicious effect. That being said, don't expect to be blown over. The secrets here, as far as can be drawn from the performance, are plenty of butter/oil, a healthy dose of sauce, fairly hot center on the grill for searing and... that's about it. While you might not be able to flip a knife over a turner (let alone the idea of safely lighting your stove on fire for a second), you can probably make teriyaki chicken that's nearly as good in your own kitchen. Doing so probably wouldn't be as much fun, but you could do it. Notes: 1) Yelp has a sample menu that's fairly accurate as far as the menu contents go, but whose prices are pretty considerably off. Expect grill-side dining to range from $13-18 per person, approximately. 2) Fried rice is listed as an extra; steamed white rice is available upon request. 3) Each hibachi station has room for about 9 or 10 guests.

It's your typical Japanese Steak House, no great surprises, but I like it. We did try the tuna sushi this time and it was surprisingly done well. The salad dressing was different though this time...more like a parmesan ranch over the typical ginger. I missed the ginger.

What a find! Love it here. Great portions. Great price. We usually just eat sushi here. Love the lobster roll and the seaweed salad. Coming here whenever we are in Columbia, Missouri.

I had a roach come across the table. I complained and yet they still made me pay for my meal. The manager said since the food was eaten, I had to pay. I was so upset and made a scene but ended up paying. I will never go back. I was insulted. They agreed they saw the roach but did nothing but tell me to calm down.

This place is wonderful. The staff is very nice and friendly, the food is fresh and delicious, and the sushi is very tasty, too. I went for lunch with my husband and friend and we had a great time. The prices are pretty reasonable, too (especially the lunch menu). I will definitely be back.

Kobe stands out of the recent influx of hibachi restaurants in CoMo. It has a typical large modern Asian fusion food establishment decor and atmosphere, making it a fun place to go to in a group. Great bento box deals (really filling, which is rare on a Japanese outing). Their sushi rolls are actually mouth-watering (get things with the 'yummy sauce'). The restaurant owner is pretty active out front and the regular Cuban? chef behind the sushi bar is very chatty and friendly.

I visited Kobe Japanese Steakhouse in COMO yesterday along with my dad and sister. It was a very relaxed and zen vibe when we walked in. Dim lights, spa music and lots of plants. Three servers greeted us with huge smiles and gave us the option to sit either around the grill or in a typical table and chair setting. We chose the grill setting, (if you go to a japanese restaurant I suggest getting the full experience and sitting around a grill), the server was so nice and friendly. The chef approached us with a big smile and great energy! I have been to a few other japanese steak houses to include over in Japan so my expectations were high. The entertainment from the chef was awesome, we laughed the ENTIRE time we were there. Our meal started out with a regular iceberg salad with a creamy ginger dressing. I prefer the thinner vinegar and oil based ginger dressing over the mayonnaise based but it was okay. After our salads the chef cooked our entrees, I ordered the steak and chicken and it also came with japanese noodles and fried rice. The steak and chicken were awesome, cooked perfectly! The noodles were okay, the sauce they use was more of a sweeter sauce versus the typical saltier sauces. The fried rice was great and they give you a huge portion of it! We ended our meal with a contest (directed by the chef) to see who could catch small pieces of shrimp and chicken in their mouths. All in all this is a great restaurant with good food and flawless entertainment!!

Great for both the sushi and hibache experience!

This restaurant has sushi that ranks right up there with the best. It can be pricey but the quality is quite worth the price. The fish is very fresh and you can see your food prepared right in the dining room. There are also plenty of options for those that haven't discovered the joys of raw fish.

Recently dined here in a party of 30 and I couldn't tell who had more fun...the adults or the children. Great experience for everyone. Chefs were very engaging and really played to the kids in our group which we really appreciated. The food and service were both good but the sushi was great. Special thanks to the restaurant staff for accomodating our small group that turned large in a short amount of time. Overall a great experience and I would recommend a visit to anyone.
