The service was very good. My wife had the chicken pot pie and said it was the best she has had. The liver and onions were a little dry. (Not baby beef liver). Wen't to I Max and view Ozark. Good history of locals. Other good shows in same complex.

I've never been to McFarlain's before, but decided to give it a try. That will definitely be the first and last time for us. We went for breakfast and waited almost 30 mins for our food to come out. I had the Pa's Breakfast which the eggs were cold and the pancakes were gummy. On a positive note my fiancé got the biscuits and gravy which were ok.

We have always eaten at McFarlain's for breakfast, and it has been pretty good. Today we tried to have dinner. Big mistake!!! If you don' like green beans, corn or cole slaw, you have to pay $1-1.50 extra to substitute ANYTHING. They were out of coloring sheets for the kids, and the wait is entirely too long. And talk about greasy!

We add supper here last night. Good serve, just fair food. Mashed potatoes were dry, even with gravy. Prices were moderate

I had the "Granny's Nacho" and loved it! This is a great place to take your family. I also had breakfast yesterday, and it was awesome.

We ate there several times with my parents last fall when we all visited Branson. They have my vote for great comfort food...I had the Chicken-fried chicken, a burger, and pot roast. I also loved the fried green tomatoes. The 5th star would have been earned if they had ever had any "home-made" cinnamon rolls any of the number of times my father asked for them...he even made special trips early in the morning on two separate occasions. I believe they were lying and don't really serve cinnamon rolls at all. I will say this, if you drive by the place and see a tour bus JUST pulling up, park your car QUICK and RUN for the entrance...we did THAT several times, too!

This was one of the better restaurants I have been at for breakfast for the entertainment factor. The food was also good. I had the legendary breakfast which was all very good. Brett had the pancakes which were also good. The coffee hit the spot, there was something about it that made it taste like old camp fire brewed coffee. Our group was separated into two tables by choice. One of the tables was the table that raises up and down, this was the best part. We laughed so hard when the group at the table finally realized the table was raising. The waitress made the entertainment of the table going up and down extremely fun. She made the group stand up and sing Row, Row, Row your Boat to make the table to go down. I highly recommend coming to this place with family and getting this these tables if you can.

We had a stupendous time here for breakfast today! We have never laughed so hard. Part of our group at at one of the rising tables and minor of them noticed the table moving until it was over grandma 's shoulders! Haha! We had amazing service. Very prompt, knowledgeable and courteous. The food was excellent. Everyone loved everything. Absolutely no complaints. I had the chocolate chip pancakes and they were by far the best I've ever had. They were so cheap and unlimited! I highly highly recommend this place! Tell the server you want to sit at the round table and wait for your guests to react and be surprised.

Took my family of 5 for dinner. Great corn bread for starters! Followed by five individual meals (see pics ). This place is a good family friendly kid friendly place with healthy portions of Mama's good cooking! Would highly recommend and the price is absolutely right.

Love this place!! The cornbread is good and the burger with the fried green tomato is amazing!! Steaks are good. Just good home cooked food!! I frequently eat here.

Great place to go and get some good home cooking. Can't really direct you on what my favorite is because everything I've ever had has been good. My niece and nephew shared the ribs and the bones left over were spotless...So I know what they would vote for. If there is a group of about 6, ask for the round table.

Food wasn't impressive. Biscuits and gravy was bland and the biscuits tasted made from a box. The all you can eat pancakes for $3.99 tasted okay- we were here at 10am and the place was empty- still our service was slow and waited 10 minutes to get my server to come by so I can ask for my pancake syrup. I really wanted this place to be good :(

I give this four stars according to Branson location. What that means is we haven't really found any great, knock your socks off food in Branson at all. There just doesn't seem to be the attention to taste and quality there. I think they may rely on the constant stream of people attending nearby attractions. That being said I give this four stars for breakfast. Mcfarlands is a large restaurant inside of an indoor mall. It's a super cute place that is old-fashioned farm themed. The wait staff is friendly and the prices are good. We have only tried their breakfast but was very pleasantly surprised with the quality. Their biscuits came with homemade strawberry rhubarb, cherry preserves which was very tasty. The all you can eat' pan cakes have a hint of vanilla to them and are golden brown. We will be back.

  • Todd W.

Had breakfast here after not getting service at the Belgian Waffle. Service was super quick. You get a carafe of coffee, which I love. The $3.99 all you can eat pancakes is a good deal. They bring you 4 huge pancakes to start with. Geez, isn't that "all you can eat?" They had butter on top and you get your own little dispenser of warm syrup. Very good and a great deal. I highly recommend.

My husband and I had dinner here with our friends, Tracy and Al Wagner. The guys had fish while we girls had chicken. This restaurant is just mediocre at best. They didn't have cocktail sauce for the fish. We have no intentions of going back and won't be recommending to anyone. Prices were too high as well.

I remember eating here when I was young and LOVING it. Lately thought, every time we've gone it's been just meh. My burger was cold and really overcooked last time, and my friend's chicken and dumplings was cold and filled with rock hard dumplings and dry chicken. It was late, and our server was really apologetic about it, but it was beyond what I think is acceptable (especially for the touristy prices). I will say the cornbread is fantastic, and our pie (chocolate) was great. Just the entrees seem to be going downhill, which is not good in a town with plenty of other eating options.

This place had pretty good food and huge portions! I loved their fried green tomatoes. Do yourself a favor and ask for one of their round tables.

The worst dining experience thus far while here in Branson. Great waiter, bad horrible tasting food. From the sweet tea, to the cornbread, to the potpie. Will not eat here again even if it was free.

  • Edgar B.

We won't go back. Our server was surly with us and the food was so-so. We had asked the management a question about the restaurant and he gave us a biased sermon instead of an answer. That's fine, but it's not the role of a restaurant. I enjoyed being able to sit down to eat. That was about it.

Good stop. Value, good food, good service. Had a hoagie stuffed with slow cooker beef-had a ton of meat!

My experience was similar to James G (although no one came by to take pictures - thankfully!). I wanted this to work. Gosh darn it, they were so nice and down home friendly. And the place looks like an oversized Cracker Barrel. They are famous for their cornbread. And it is durn tasty -but very sweet. Go there and get a cup of coffee or tea and just the cornbread. Skip the "honey butter." They put it on with an ice cream scoop and I seriously doubt that hydrogenized glop had any real butter and probably only minute amounts of actual honey. My baked potato was perfect. My son had the steak and they cooked it to his liking. The wife had a small salad which is hard to mess up. The server was very friendly but mixed up - we had to remind him more than once to bring something we had requested or that was part of our meal. My BBQ ribs were dry and tasted like they had been cooked earlier and place under a warmer - in fairness, it was the end of a busy day (Saturday near Christmas) so maybe I shouldn't have gone at 8 PM. My mother ordered fish and I'd swear it had also been cooked earlier than dropped back in the fryer for a last minute warm up. It was hard and almost burnt (very dark breading). All in all, not a great experience. Since we visit Branson often, I've wanted to try this place so now I can check it off my list of places to visit...and move on to something better.

We showed up a few minutes to 9, not realizing that they apparently closed at 9. We were standing at the entrance to the restaurant and I kid you not, a young guy came up and set down a sign saying they were closed right in front of us. We were stunned. No "I'm sorry folks, but we're closing", just basically a go away sign shoved in our face. Not impressed at all.

Great experience here. Had the meatloaf sandwich. It was as expected and satisfying. Wife got the turkey meal. Once again, as expected, everything was tasty. Service was speedy and the wait staff were extremely helpful and in good spirits. If you like cornbread, I'd recommend you try theirs... it comes served with a dollop of honey butter. It is not sit-in-your-gut-like-a-rock cornbread but refreshingly lighter like cake, but definitely not cake. Just yummy.

This did not seem to me like comfort food, or "home cookin'" as most reviews have suggested. This seemed to me like greasy, very average, middle class food. Maybe even lower middle class. Sandwich I had was greasy, burgers were nothing special. The boys got pasta, which was a little below average. Seriously, you could get an equally good meal at Cracker Barrel. The only good thing is that the service was good. Friendly as heck and very attentive. So, if you are looking to gain some weight on some not so great food, make a visit to McFarlain's. (mind you, I have not objection to gaining weight on GOOD food ;-))

  • Joe J.

Service was excellent. Too bad the food didn't live up to the same standard. Ordered the chicken and dumplings. Bland, no spice and undercooked dumplings. Other item that was undercooked was a baked potato.

  • C W.

Food was great, coffee was delicious, but service costs two stars. We had the buffet upstairs and were finished with our meal when our drinks finally came. Made it easy since she could just pick-up dishes when they dropped drinks off. Our group could not understand since there were several empty tables and not many people eating at that time.

It was like a joke. There were 5 families eating and no wait staff. Never was waited on. I thought maybe I was being filmed for a reaction. Went to try and find some one and it was like they all went home or something. It was to the point of being silly.

Ate at this family restaurant prior to seeing "Son's of Britches", which is also in the IMAX complex. I had the bean with bacon soup, and it was what I expected-- good and hearty! My two companions had the chicken and dumplings and the chicken pot pie, and they stared those items were very good. We all agreed that the cornbread was outstanding! I also would recommend he fried green tomatoes as an appetizer!

Waitress was super nice and very attentive. Food was good and priced reasonably. Got right in and food came out quickly.

The dark gravy mashed potatoes roast beef comfort food. Coconut cream pie and blackberry cobbler

  • Sammy T.

Pot roast was tasty. Good wholesome food but not outstanding. Very conveniently located by I MAX.

    (3)
  • Britta W.

The pot roast was bland. It needed some salt or something. It was drenched in BBQ sauce that was also tasteless. The corn and green beans were from a can and had no seasoning. The corn bread was the only good thing that I had. It was amazing.

I was confused as to why this restaurant was so huge yet the food was so "meh". I think they rely on new tourists constantly coming in rather than regulars. I don't understand why they aren't shut down. The catfish sandwich I had was really boring. The hoagie was even more boring. It had some boring lettuce on it and some terrible chopped red onions. The catfish itself seemed mushy from a microwave, like they receive them battered and frozen. The french fries were greasy and boring. If you are looking for comfort food, go to Cracker Barrel. Or better yet, go to Farmhouse on West Main. Much better and less bland and processed. Our server changed several times and once we had a regular one, we only saw her to order food and then again to pay. She took so long that I just set my card out for her to take immediately before receiving the check. Skip this one unless you're into mushy, bland food.

The ribeye steak was pretty darn good. The mashed potatoes were good but not as creamy as I would like. The free bread with honey butter was ok. My buddy got the meat loaf and said it was pretty good. Server was attentive, prompt and nice.

    (3)
  • Mark S.

Service was good and the appetizers were okay. Otherwise the food was only fair. My ribeye was overcooked, the green beans were from a can. My wife had their "signature" Vigilante taco that had about a quarter cup of cold chili over cornbread and covered with lettuce, a little cheese and four tortilla chips. There are many better choices in Branson.

    (2)
  • Kevin D.

For Branson fare, this was really really good. I had the pork chop and it was succulent. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was delicious. My daughter is gluten free and they didn't have many options for her. It would be good to have an allergen menu. Service was excellent. Highly recommend.

    (4)
  • Ben D.

Meal was excellent my only complaint is that it cost me almost 3 dollars for a glass of sweet tea which is the same price as a coke

  • Abby B.

Ate breakfast there on a Saturday morning. It was good. Nothing too special. The pancake were good! Service was good. Are supper there on Friday night. It was good too. Nothing too special. I don't like sweet cornbread so the cornbread was nasty to me. They do sweet butter too for your cornbread. Yuck!

I took my family here a week ago because I wanted to surprise them with the rising table. But they were broke! Nobody liked their food either. My mom had a chicken fried steak. It was extremely dry and very gross. My grandma had a steak. She asked for it well done. It was rare as could be! She didn't even touch it. My daughter ordered mini corn dogs. They tasted like crap. She refused to eat them. My family was super disappointed. I don't think we will return.

We always love going to McFarlains...it's always a must stop restaurant for us. However, this time we went and we weren't quite as impressed as normal. Mom got her pot roast she always gets. She liked it...but she said it was a little drier than it usually is. Plus it came with corn and she said the corn juice was all mixed in with her gravy...she doesn't like that. But the flavor of the meat was still good. Dad got a BBQ Beef Sandwich that he wasn't happy with. He said it was really dry. It needed more bbq sauce and the meat was a little over cooked. I had the Ozark Noodle Bake, a fancy way of saying lasagna. I really liked that. I would've liked it better if the cheese on top was melted a little better though. The cornbread is always the highlight of the meal and that stayed the same this time. Love that cornbread and bought the mix to bring home and make. So, we still love McFarlains and will go about again...unfortunatly they must have been having an off night when we went, at least I hope that's all it is. Side note...try and sit at the round tables! Those tables tend to get a little extra attention ;) Oh and don't be suprised when someone comes up to your table and asks to take your picture. They go up to everyone and try and sell their souvineer photos. But they tend to leave you alone if you say no...they didn't keep bugging us anyway. Go eat at McFarlains...they usually have good home cooked style food. We'll go back!

The food was probably not that bad, but my fish was a little undercooked. The place looked nice.

  • Michelle G.

One of only 2 places on the 76 strip that I will patronize...seems to be more of a local crowd than tourists (usually a good sign). Huge menu with home cooking (meatloaf, pot roast), standard Chili-style fare (stir fry), lighter fare (grilled chicken), and cobbler with super-flaky crust (yum!). Not a fancy place, but who's looking for that in Branson? (We're just trying not to get rippe off!).

If I told you that when we travel to Branson, MO -- this is a stop we HAVE to make for true southern, homemade comfort food -- then you may get an idea of just how much we love this place!!! I highly suggest the following fried trio: Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Green Beans, & Fried Sweet Potatoes. McFarlain's 'made from scratch' biscuits & homemade pies would make my grandmother proud! The rest of the menu is full of classic items like Homemade Chicken Pot Pie & offers many Ozark Mountain Specialties with catchy names from the areas' history. If you go for breaksfast you can get there in time to see THE OZARKS movie ( IMAX ) which is a history about the McFarlain family & the Ozarks. I highly recommend folks!!!!! In fact... I'm making myself hungry! OH!!!! And ask for the special round table..... You'll find out why......

My husband and I were on our way to see a nearby show that started in an hour. When Golden Corral had a line out the door we headed to McFarlain's across the street, which also had a lot full of cars but we thought we'd give it a try. I ordered the chicken pot pie. Delicious. It came with mashed pots and choice of green beans or corn. I got the green beans which were some of the tastiest I've had. I wasn't going to eat the mashed potatoes to avoid a few carbs, but once I tasted them, I was in. Seeing the plates of cornbread around me I asked to try some. It was quickly brought to me, no charge. I was a huge fan of this honey corn bread. Yes, it was very cakey. I LOVED it. Melt in your mouth good, for sure... Husband had the burger and fries and he finished every bite. We even ran into some folks from our home town. They told us they return to McFarlain's often. I know we'll be back.

Average southern cooking. Lot's of shops out front to get your money. If you like fried food, this is your place. Don't try it if you're a vegetarian.

  • James G.

First of all, I'll tell you what I liked the most. 1). The cornbread was excellent; we took some with us and ate some for breakfast and dinner the following day. 2.)The regular green beans were pretty good; I ate them first. Now for the things that were disappointing. 1). The fried green tomatoes were basically inedible - full of grease with no taste. 2). The spaghetti in the kid's meal was inedible and my child loves spaghetti. 3). The chicken fried steak was pretty good but I found some type of stringy black stuff on top of the meat and underneath the gravy. 4). The lady moving from table to table asking to take a family photo that she would come back and share with you in a key chain, etc. - for a price of course. (That was shameless, intrusive, and very annoying.) 5). The signature pie (Branson Traffic Jam) was small and average. The service was good overall but I was surprised that a manager didn't come out after all of our questions and complaints. It could have been just an off night for them but it annoyed me enough to write this review since we partially relied on previous Yelp reviews in deciding to dine there.

This place is wild when you have four to five tour buses loading and unloading, especially during the holiday season. As far as the food goes it is good except the fried green tomatoes, they push these for an appetizer, when we got ours they were boiling hot and sloppy with grease right out of the pan, greasy greasy greasy. The signature cornbread was so sweet I couldn't tell if it was cake or cornbread, it was good though. My wife got the fish and chips and I got the fried catfish, mine was excellent but hers had a lot to be desired, it was some kind of frozen battered fish but not as fresh as the catfish. I'll give this place another try but I know what I'll not order.....

    (3)
  • TrayC T.

I had green fried tomatoes. Loved it. The catfish was good. Portion was big. But the best thing is the cornbread! Heard its a good place for breakfast but I wouldn't know missed it by 20 minutes :(

We were here on Monday, April 6, 2015. Four adults and two children and a baby. Wonderful food. My son and I had the chicken and dumplings, very outstanding. My son continued to talk about those dumplings for two more days. Also, they bring you a plate full of their homemake cornbread with large scoops of whipped butter with honey in it on top of the warm cornbread., ohhhh, so yummy. Atmosphere very nice, old country.

We dined on a Monday evening close to 8pm (they close at 9:45) with a family of 6. I ordered Pot roast & husband ordered the meatloaf. Cornbread was served as an appetizer. I almost licked my plate clean it was so delicious! For dessert we tried the traffic jam pie, pecan pie, and coconut cream pie. Incredible!! Great meal, great service from Patrick, and great atmosphere. Thank you so much!!

We dined there, I don't remember what the food tasted like. But I do remember the confederate flag hanging above our heads and that made us uncomfortable. When my husband called to simply tell the owner that we were offended by the flag, instead of apologizing, the owner stormed into an argument as to why my husband is not right to be offended. That made no sense, how can you dicate to me what I do or don't find offensive? We'll be avoiding this place.

One of the places we eat at multiple times when visiting Branson. A favorite. The McFarlain's Special of roast beef and gravy with real mashed potatoes is wonderful. The Vigilantes Taco of chili on their delicious corn bread and topped with lettuce, salsa, olives, and sour cream is a favorite. Just try it; you'll like it!
