This restaurant gets the jon done if you are hungry but that's about it. The decorations in the restaurant are very plain, nothing fancier than a common cafeteria. The carpet (yes, carpet) is sticky on your feet, but other than that it seemed clean enough. This restaurant doesn't seem to quite know what it wants to be. The menu is pretty sloppily put together and seems to have food from most major types (Italian, American etc...). I had the cheeseburger and fries. I was surprised to find that the cheese burger itself is $6.99, and you have to pay $1.00 more for fries. I would have valued the burger I received at about $2.50. It came with no sauce and has to. They have me a single piece of the very center of the onion as a topping. The fries aren't bad though. On the other hand my wife had the patty melt and said it was one of the best she had ever had.

This place is hit and miss. Sometimes its good, and other times its not. I gave it a two star because its never great. I've never been blown away. I've only ever left this restaurant feeling like it was decent.

Ate her with friends from Bolivar, I ordered a strawberry bistro salad. Mine was good, my friend ordered a short stack of pancakes. Her's had walnuts in them. Waitress said they had a new cook, and for some reason since my salad had walnuts, the cook put them in the pancakes. Needless to say, my friend said they were horrible! Finally the owner came over, he tried to blame it on the waitress. He did take the pancakes off the ticket. Needless to say it was not a great uexperience!

Really good diner food. The french toast made with cinnamon bread was delicious, and the sausage was crispy on the outside. My husband ordered the spartan omelette and he liked it. They serve breakfast all day which is great!

The breakfast here is great. I highly recommend trying a skillet option. The Greek skillet is my favorite. The also have decent soup and I got fried cat fish once for dinner and I was quite happy with that as well. Staff is very friendly but they can be very slow in the kitchen and if they are busy you will wait long enough to get your food that you will start to think they may have forgotten you. Oh, and they are great about refilling your coffee if you show up for breakfast which is something my husband really loves. It's a relatively quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

It is kind of hard to find an open diner in Bolivar, MO. The Nifty Fifty downtown has a for sale sign, and looked closed even though it was hand written on the window that they were still open. When I pass through a small town I try to avoid chain restaurants, and also strip mall joints. Seems like the Red Apple was 'it', even though they're parked in a newish building behind the Taco Bell. I was greeted by a charming man who must be the owner. He was very friendly. That's a plus. After some confusion about who was waiting on me and whether anyone had brought a menu, I ordered a patty melt on seeded rye, with fries. The food came out quickly, and was hot and tasty. The fries were typical straight cut diner fries. Nothing to write home about. But I really like the patty melt. Hit the spot. If you are looking for diner food, in a clean restaurant with friendly People, this is your place.
