Wow, this place was a safe haven when the thunderstorm and tornadoes were passing through the Minneapolis metro area. We had their happy hour special (2 drinks for price of 1) on Sunday night. I had their grilled salmon salad which was superb. My co-workers had a burger which also looked fancy. Our waiter was terrific and helped us with picking out local brew on tap. Large TVs everywhere so you can catch all the games here. Too bad all the other shops at Woodbury were closed in the plaza. Only Trader Joe's was open... Thank goodness for Lakes Tavern and Grill.

All in all, Lakes Tavern is one of the better options for casual American dining in Woodbury (maybe even top two, honestly), but I wouldn't consider it exceptional in the grand scheme of Twin Cities restaurants. I'm in Amy R.'s camp: I'm not quite a fan, but this is generally a positive review. One nice thing about Lakes Tavern right off the bat is that it is not a chain restaurant. Not that the atmosphere doesn't still have a slightly sophisticated chain restaurant feel to it, but... it's in Woodbury and it's local and not a chain. Good news! My mom and I sat outside since it was beautiful last night. The hostess put us at a table that was backed right into the busser's station. I was practically deafened by the clanking dishes directly behind me, so we asked to switch seats after that. Our new table was much better and our server was very nice and accommodating when we asked to be moved. It all turned out fine, but just kinda wondering why that table exists at all. I was ultra-hungry and ordered a rather delicious bacon cheeseburger. It comes medium on an herbed focaccia roll (yuuuum yum) with some fried onion strings on top. The roll really was awesome. Everything else was just alright. Even though it was plenty of calories for me, the portion of waffle fries was a bit small for $12, compared to other restaurants, and it also cost extra for seasoned sour cream. (For the record, I think it is ridiculous to charge extra for condiments and I would rather those things be built into the cost of the meal. Just a personal thing though.) We had just missed happy hour, but they do $4-5 appetizer and buy-on-get-one-for-$1 drink specials twice daily (3-6 p.m. and 9-midnight). Definitely looked worth a try since my mom was raving about the meatloaf sliders and I thought the flatbreads and artichoke dip sounded good too (when does it not?). I'm sure I'll come back here with my mom again for HH or dinner when we're in the mood for good old 'merican food.

got the flat bread and chicken salad. Flat bread was dry but salad was good. Had a nice atmosphere. Would probably go back if I lived closer

Every time I have eaten here, whether straight from the gym or for a nice lunch/dinner, I was always met with the same great service and wonderful food. They even offer gluten free mac and cheese which was a huge bonus for a good friend of mine. They also have wonderful happy hour selections and an email membership for monthly notifications and specials. If you're in the bar and looking for some greats apps to go with your beer, the cheese curds and the deviled eggs are phenomenal choices! Some of the clientele is a bit snobbish, but as I stated before I have had great service from the staff regardless of whether I arrived in sweat pants or a pencil skirt. Yay!

Everything about this place was very average, except for the things that were below average. Honestly, if the prices would have been more in line with the food quality and service provided, I may have rated them a 3. Food ordered at the table: Cubano Flatbread: Person said it was good, but nothing to rave about. The pork part of it was pretty bland. He had asked for a side of their blue cheese slaw (that they serve with some other entree) as the side instead of fries or whatever the choices were, and they complied, but gave such a small amount it was almost laughable. It barely even filled half of the small side bowl it came in. Seafood Curry: This person was the only one who really seemed to enjoy their meal. They didn't have anything bad to say. But I know them well, and they didn't really rave, either, which says something to me. Meat and Potatoes (steak, potatoes and veggies): It came to the plate almost cold. The potatoes were barely warm, and the steak wasn't even warm enough to melt the butter placed on top of it. He said the flavor of the steak was good, and it was cooked properly, but it had obviously been sitting and waiting way too long. And apparently not even in a heated atmosphere. The veggies were average. He liked the brussel sprouts, but couldn't identify the flavorless white vegetables in the mix. Apparently they were parsnips, but they sure didn't taste like it. Short Rib Hoagie: The sandwich was good, if slightly cold. The short rib meat was tasty, as was the horseradish cream and blue cheese. The fries were average. The table also ordered two desserts; the apple crisp and the Mini Black Bottom Banana Cheesecake). The apple crisp was served VERY warm (actually steaming), but was decent. The Banana Cheesecakes were very obviously purchased frozen and thawed, and one of the two had no 'black bottom' (i.e. fudge, according to the menu description). VERY disappointing. I could have bought them in the freezer section at Walmart. The server was friendly, but VERY slow. I would have cut her some slack on that, but it seemed she only had like 3 or 4 tables. The place in general was NOT busy, maybe half full. It took us an hour and 45 minutes to order, eat and pay, and there was hardly anyone there. That seemed strange to me. Here's my opinion: If you're going to serve food like this, make the dishes sound special and wonderful on the menu, and then charge about 25% more than an average bar and grill, it shouldn't taste like an average bar and grill. I probably won't go back...

Stopped in on Monday afternoon for an early dinner. It was during happy hour and the place was pretty empty. I frequent this place and they have a solid menu, but the food seems to be just ok. Don't know what it is but there is nothing going on here that stands out to me. Appearance of the place is pretty good, but I think they should rethink what direction they want to go here.

Well for some reason my reviews disapear fro this establishment. I have multiple check ins.. not sure.. BUT.. They have a good HH deal. $5 apps. Things such as the flatbread pizza, pork sliders, hardboiled eggs. All tasty. Last we went the flat bread wasnt very flat but that seemed more an an anomaly than normal. The food here is pretty decent. The service ranges but typically is good. They have live music during the week on the patio.

The service is outstanding. Best I've seen. The food is great also. Grilled cheese, tomato basil soup, hamburger n fries, shrimp tacos. And complimentary homemade chips while waiting for our food which came quickly. Great ambience. Wish we had one at home!

This is the third time we have been here and it has just kept getting better. The first time the service was very slow but it had just opened and so we cut them some slack. The second time we had a couple appetizers and it was good. This last time we had lunch in the bar. Mike, the bartender/server was great. Service was quick, he was informative, food was very good. A little snafu with the turkey burger I ordered but it was quickly remedied and Mike bought our beers for the mistake. we will definitely be back.

This place looked good online, their menu seemed like it had some good choices. The Yelp reviews weren't fantastic, but people seem to neg a star just for being located in Woodbury, for some reason. So, went with reasonably high expectations, but, from this visit, it's a for sure barely a 3 star experience. The place looks nice, lots of wood and natural stone tile, booths are cozy, not too crowded. Waitress was very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the menu or specials, she kept saying "I'm not sure, I'll check on that" whenever we asked a question. The menu still looked pretty good, and the appetizer section looked amazing; so many things I wanted to try, like the cheese plate, the deviled eggs, the flatbread, and the wonton nachos. We ordered the Wonton Nachos and the Spinach Artichoke dip. Both were ok. Not stunning, but tasty enough to eat until our meals arrived. The nachos were much less cheesy than I would have hoped, but had lots of chopped fresh veggies. For the entrees, we ordered: Bowl of Noodles- an Asian inspired dish with peppers, noodles, chicken and broth Fruit and Nuts Salad- the usual Gorgonzola/walnuts/cranberry deal Open Faced Smothered Turkey Sandwich- with potatoes and gravy Meat and Potatoes- an 8oz sirloin and choice of potato The verdict? The Bowl of Noodles ordered by The Man was deemed "ok, but kind of bland." Mini skirt ate her salad without complaint, but, to give them credit, they did follow all of her special instructions (no cheese, dressing on the side, chicken on the side, only a few walnuts.) Yes, she mostly ate lettuce. T-rex liked his sirloin and potatoes, but from where I was sitting, it was well past the medium-rare he had ordered it as. And my turkey? It was pretty disappointing. It was supposed to come with a white cheddar and horsey-chive flavor, but all it really tasted like was dry turkey. Between the bread, turkey and potatoes, there was a lot of dry food on the plate, and the gravy helped, but then made everything taste the same. I want to try this place again. T-rex and Mini skirt have been here a few times and like it, so maybe we just ordered the wrong things. I would like to come back and try a few more of their appetizers; they were the best part of the menu from what I could tell.

We have been there three times....food was so so...rather spendy...but the biggest problem is the noise level....you can not talk loud enough to allow your table mates to hear you....hard to talk and hear your server....they need to do something to reduce the noise and sound of others...was not a place to converse over your meal!! Will go elsewhere in the future...sorry.

Verdict is really still out on the place. We've been there twice. First time, we really liked the food and the waiter was excellent. Second time we were there, the food was so-so (ordered different things) and so was the waitress. We'll have to try it again sometime to get a good feel for the place.

An upscale atmosphere with more to offer than just bar food in Woodbury? This place has it. With a tasty twist on nachos, an awesome wedge salad and delicious fettuccine for my man, this place is quickly becoming one of our suburban faves.

There's not much to write a review about in Woodbury, the land of chain restaurants and shopping malls. However, after stopping by on a whim while shopping with a friend, I was pleasantly surprised and have been very satisfied each time I've returned. Though this seems to be a good sports bar/restaurant at heart, the slight classy and sophisticated feel I get from the decor and the staff resonates in the food. This isn't just a tavern that has cooks who make the menu items, they have a chef creating the combinations from what the waiter told me. When one orders a bar burger, you get a delicious, juicy patty with potabello mushrooms, blue cheese, and a balsamic reduction. A simple flatbread appetizer comes adorned with goat cheese and artichokes. My father had the turkey burger and I was drooling over watching him eat the thing adorned with pesto, mushrooms, cheese, and roasted peppers. The price is right (as it should be in the suburbs) and the food is scrumptious. I have yet to have anyone with me eat something that wasn't worthy of a great food moan or two. I didn't get the free appetizer bread the last time I was there (perhaps we just didn't think to ask, they've stopped it, or it's not offered on the patio), but if it's around, take them up on it. Delicious! The staff has always been very friendly and animated, without taking over dinner and I love their loyalty program. I've gotten $10 off just by joining the free service and emails announcing new specials, including a patio drink special that's just for loyalty members. Certainly worth a little extra mail in the inbox, if you ask me. Definitely stop by while out among the townhouses and shops.

Happy hour is now double up for a buck on beer, wine, rail and call instead of a discount, so if you don't want two drinks you're out of luck. Good tap beer list (16 taps) and prices esp during HH. Bell's Two Hearted is $5. Rush River Ãœber Alt Strong Brown Ale is $5. If you join their loyalty program online they'll immediately email you $10 off any purchase but it's not valid on HH. Great HD TVs in Bar area (3 50" behind bar, tipped down for easier viewing). Ones in corners could be bigger. Upscale decor. I agree it's not very 'Woodbury'-like, which is good. Service is a bit uppity but tolerable.

Wife and I had been here multiple times... nice place! Then we had a meal that so loaded with salt we couldn't eat it. I didn't want to make a scene so when we just asked for our check with only a few bites out of our food. Server asked if we needed a box, we said no because we couldn't eat the salt-bombed food. She just said ok and we paid for the meal... talk about missing the boat. She could have saved the day and made it right, but seemed more concerned with when her shift ended. Haven't been back since.

We tried their Sunday brunch and it was very good. The caramel rolls delivered to your table were delicious. There was a very good variety of food choices and I thought everything was tasty. Some dishes could have been hotter (always a challenge for buffets). I loved the bloody marys too. Would defiantly try their brunch again.

I enjoyed my dinner at Lakes Tavern and Grill this week. Although it was far from something to write home about. I do appreciate, though, that there is a restaurant in Woodbury that isn't a chain restaurant and with a unique menu. We sat outside for our meal. It was a nice evening. Our waiter was inattentive though and drinks went unfilled for longer periods of time that I find acceptable. The food was decent. I ordered one of their appetizer flat breads as my entree. The crust seemed to be the same stuff used by a restaurant like Dominoes for their thin crust pizza. And all of the ingredients were muffled together for a rather mute flavor. I do think we'll go back if someone suggests it. But I'm not itching to get back there.

This is definitely my new favorite restaurant in Woodbury. I love that it is a non-chain restaurant too! I've been here a few times in the past few months and have been pleased with my food and drinks at both lunch and dinner. I've tried the Favorite pasta and Bacon cheddar burger with waffle fries and enjoyed both of them. I was pleased with the "Double Up for a Buck" happy hour special on draft beer and rail cocktails too. Oh, and I can't forget the homemade mini donuts with fudge and raspberry dipping sauces for dessert. Yum! I'm looking forward to dining on the patio when the weather gets nice. That is going to happen, isn't it?

I find the atmosphere to be open and cold here. The food is ok, I feel like if they would keep the menu item's simple it would be much better, Instead I think they try to fancy it up too much for what it is. Decent happy hour.

This is definitely my favorite place to eat in Woodbury. I bring almost all of my out-of-town visitors here! The atmosphere is slightly dark, and has an intimate vibe. The menu is great. One one particular visit upon asking for the specials that night, was informed that the owners/manager switch up the menu (as often as every 3 weeks or so) to keep things fresh. That is definitely a plus in my book, one of your favorite restaurants, and you can go back and try something new almost every time! AWESOME! Highlights (according to me) of the menu include their Mac n' Cheese (add WHATEVER you want to it) yummmm, and their Tavern Style Pizza. Burgers are awesome and fish is too! Their sides are not your normal chain restaurant sides. They spice them up, it's almost as if you're dining at a fine restaurant. The folks at the Lakes Tavern & Grill definitely know what they're doing! I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for the Applebee's/Chili's vibe with a better menu!

We ventured into the Lakes Tavern & Grill as a party of 4 for an evening dinner. We had never been to the tavern before & were excited to check out a new Woodbury restaurant. The experience was forgettable & disappointing. We ordered an appetizer to share, soups & salads, & entrees. While my mother-in-law was ordering, the server corrected her on the pronunciation of the items she was reading off the menu, not once, but TWICE, in a very rude manner & the attitude didn't stop there. Our salads & soups came first, then our entrees. The appetizer came out AFTER we received our entrees, which aggravates me to no end, but I was trying to relax & enjoy an evening with family, so I decided not to complain. Our server either did not notice the appetizer mishap or didn't care. When we asked her for a spoon to serve our appetizer with, she brought us a HUGE plastic kitchen spoon, obviously not intended for customer use as it was old & the plastic handle was half melted. So akward. I honestly did not know what to say. I don't know if the server was annoyed & trying to make a point, or just clueless. Either way, the service was awful & the food was forgettable. I, honestly, do not think I will return.

Not nearly enough do people take the time to write a good review after an exemplary dining experience. So often you only read the bad reviews online. Well I'm here to say that this place has everything going for it. The staff is very friendly and the price is perfect for the quality of food you receive. Let me just also say that when I say quality food, I mean it! By far my favorite place to go out to eat in Woodbury.

Went back for lunch. Salmon burger was under cooked and fries were overdone. Service was great. This is more of a great place for happy hour than for sit down meals

Been in a couple times, never all that overly impressed. The food is so-so, average. Drinks are ehhh. Hit or miss with good service, I have had a good time at the bar top once before. They used to have a smores skillet dessert that was fabulous! Its a seasonal item, but I didn't see it this past summer on the menu. I would go in again just for that dessert!

This place is OK. I came here during happy hour so the prices are pretty good. We ordered the nachos, fries, cheese curds & greenbeans. Had I of paid full price, this would likely be a 1 or 2 star review. The greenbeans were meh, and spicy. The cheese curds were really good. The fries came out cold, and i was not really in the mood of sending anything back. The nachos were ok, but they went cold quick. I didn't get the impression that the food was overly fresh. Will I come back? no. most likely not. Would I recommend this place? Not realy.

Homemade chips! Good pub food! Friendly Atmosphere! Good service (with a smile) No complaints. Would definitely go back. Sunday special was any burger and any pint of beer for $12. Try the summer special campfire burger (my teenage Daughter had it and liked it) the Shrimp Fajita bowl was very good and more than I could eat (made 3 healthy size fajitas).

Excellent house chips with siracha dip! Yummy Korean BBQ boneless wings and FRESH Caesar salad! The wings you can select sauce, boneless or bone in, cucumber or celery, and ranch or blue cheese dressing... So nice! The service was excellent! Our server answered my salad questions with ease, brought me water with no ice and was quick on refills. She also accommodated 1/2 celery/cucumber combo! The short rib pappardelle was very flavorful. I would definitely come back again!

I've been thrice now and had something different each time. Last was the breaded walleye which was very good. I don't know how long this place has been around, but it feels like mere months. The owner has greeted us a couple of times. They are still feeling their way around. The wait staff has been attentive but noticeably green. I think it does very well for what it is. I abhor chains, so bonus there. Woodbury has a surprising paucity of decent food options. It's amazing how often I struggle to settle on something. I suppose Lakes earns some note for having reeled in my business a few times already. Hard to see how it isn't a 4/5. Anything less would be expecting it to be something it's not.

We have tried this place three times. BAD each time. MEDIOCRE to tasteless food, inexperienced help (hear they have a high turn over), unclean restrooms, poor menu selection, bar area is dirty. There are so many other great places to eat in Woodbury, why bother.

    (1)
  • Karen S.

I was pretty shocked at how bad this place is. We just stopped by for a burger. The waitress was bored and disinterested. Our burgers weren't even average. The meat was dry, the bun was dry, and there were no condiments to alleviate the issue. The fries weren't as good as fast food fries. It is a nice space. How does any restaurant owner pay to have such a nice building and then serve food that is frankly an embarrassment? Poor Woodbury. It seems like they never get nice things.

A secret eatery of Woodbury. When every place is crowded we come here. Been here a few times now and have never been completed disappointed however one of the group usually is not satisfied. Lobster Mac and Cheese is Cheeseless. The Buffalo Wedge is a HIT as is the double bacon cheese burger. Price is average to high. Staff is hit or miss. When it is slow you would expect excellent servers but they seem to disappear for long periods of time. It is worth a try for sure.

Our meal was very good, all items came out HOT! I had the Lobster Grilled Cheese, my wife the Avocada Turkey, the kids got Pizzas. Service was great, and very friendly. A tad bit more expensive than I wanted for lunch, but it is appropriately priced. Check them out some time!

We love this place! We've eaten here twice and both times the food and service have been outstanding. Tonight we started with cheese curds with an outstanding aioli sauce. We then ordered the beef tip stroganoff which was amazing and the shrimp scampi and it was by far one of the best I've ever had. The Kids had personal pizzas and they were good as well. We both ordered quite possibly THE most delicious drink on the planet - a salted caramel White Russian with Stoli vodka. Dang good. Dessert we had Apple crisp, chocolate mousse and bread pudding - all fantastic. Service was top notch! My only issue with the entire night was that I ate too much and I now feel miserable. Blech. But that's no fault of theirs.

We dropped by here after a day of skiing at Afton Alps. I like the ambiance, somewhat trendy but they accepted us with our baggy skiing pants. They had pretty good happy hour specials late at night so that was a big plus. Service was good. Food was OK, we ordered the spinach artichoke dip with pita bread. I liked it, was edible but nothing extraordinary. I would go back.

  • Sarah G.

A couple girlfriends and I went out here after we put the kids to bed for happy hour: $5 apps and drink specials. We ordered the spinach dip with nan bread, nachos, fried Wisconsin (cheese curds), and a Neapolitan flatbread. All were delicious. The nan bread was extra, but really good. The nachos were not your typical nachos. The chips were wonton chips, and they used a white queso. The cheese curds came with a spicy mayo for dipping. The flatbread was also great. I will say that I was slightly disappointed when we were told we couldn't get the happy hour specials unless we were in the bar, but then they had a booth in the bar anyway, so it was fine. But just make sure you sit there if you're going for happy hour.

First time going for dinner, the patio was really nice and well-lit. Had the Pot Pie which was good. It came with some steamed veggies on the side though that were really bland and kind of cold. Wanted to get the doughnut brownie for dessert, but they were all out, which was disappointing. The service was lacking, however. All-in-all it was alright.

Been here 3 or 4 times now and I like the feel of the upscale bar. Great place to watch football on Sundays if you want to mix it up from the average bar. I got the cubano, still on the quest for the best cubano, and this one shocked my quest. It came on naan bread, remember this is a bar, and had nice stuffed fillings. The meat was tender and flavorful. Decent beer choices which is always key. They have decent happy hour prices on appetizers but most of them tend to be a little on the greasy side but honestly its hard to argue against that. At times the service can be a little slow and that is why it only got a 4, but overall I feel the food quality has been great and consistency each time. I also like the feel of the bar and dining room as it gives you more of an upscale feel without out inflated prices. Worth a stop in if you are in the area or driving by on interstate 94.

It had nice decor, and the food was fine. But it wasn't really a destination. If you're in Woodbury in the area, go ahead. But it's not anything to get excited about. Also it was kind of misleading by the title, it is not Lake-y at all. The outside view is of a parking lot- and it's literally in a strip mall.

I had high hopes for this place, but left rather disappointed. As an appetizer we ordered the deviled eggs. The portion was good (you received 8) but they were overly salty. I still enjoyed them, but the salt level was definitely higher than it should have been. As for the entrees, I ordered the Turkey Pot Pie, and my boyfriend ordered the Lobster Mac N Cheese. My Turkey Pot Pie had a a funky taste to it, and I've had better from the freezer section in the grocery store. My boyfriend enjoyed his lobster mac, but my personal opinion was that it was very one-note and the lobster was even chewier than your average lobster. Really the only good thing about the meal was the Black Bottom Banana Cream Pies. You received 2 small ones for 5 dollars, which is actually not a bad deal if you ask me. I thought they were rather tasty, although I would have preferred a little more chocolate with it being called "black bottom" and all. Overall, the service was good, and the food was okay. But as the place is nowhere near where I live, I won't be making any special trips to go back.

I have been here three times and I have never had something I liked. Their sausage pizza was okay if the sausage wasn't so terrible. Their wonton nachos were okay, but too many wontons and not enough substance. Their burger was 8.99 and it was small. It was like halfway between a "mini" and an actual burger from a place like five guys. It was overcooked on outside and easily takes the bill for being one of worst burgers. How do you screw up on burgers? At least the half-salad had good vinaigrette. My friend ordered a flat-bread, which she liked alright, but it was barely bigger than my hamburger bun. The service was rude, but they did serve the main entree in a decent time, but probably because the place was only half-full on a Saturday at 6. Bad service, poor serving size, bad food, okay beer selection, but I would go again during happy hour for a drink or two. They have a decent happy hour. Avoid it, there are several other mediocre restaurants in Woodbury to get decent food.

Nice atmosphere but food is lacking. This was our first time here and we came with a groupon. We got the beef stroganoff, sea food bake, and a side of sweet potato fries. The sea food bake had no flavor or seasoning so we had to ask for dressing for some taste. The rice that came with it was hard and the scallops were tiny. The beef stroganoff had a very thin broth which was more like a gravy than a cream sauce. The sweet potato fries were average, probably the best part of our meal though. Much better places to eat in the area so I wouldn't recommend the lakes tavern.

Very poor quality of food. Everything seems to be frozen they buy from a food wholesaler. For prices, everything should be fresh. Fun atmosphere but very weak service staff when they get busy. We waited over ten minutes for drinks on several occasions.

I figured it had been enough time and since Outback has pulled up their stakes and left Woodbury, I'd give Lakes another try. It started off well as the potato chips and sriracha sour cream app was good. My dinner salad was oddly room temperature, but otherwise tasty. And then, the entree. I ordered a blackened ribeye. I giggled to myself as I received the steak, just thinking " what a dumb question it was to ask how would I like my steak prepared?" This steak was so wafer thin it could only have two modes: cooked and raw. It's taste was somewhat underwhelming and a bit gamey. Sorry, but all the steak sauce in the world wouldn't help this frisbee of meat. I just don't understand this place. The interior is quite nice, the service is prompt and courteous. Perhaps if I bother to ever go back I should stick to their bar food since the dining room is always empty but the bar is hoppin. Maybe they know something I don't that's keeping this joint in business.

While I'm not quite a fan, it is a far better option than the typical chainers in the area. It reminded us a bit up a more upscale Green Mill. Service was excellent from the hostess, our server and the manager. One thing I noticed was that the majority of the wait staff was blonde, so it was confusing to single out our server. Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. I had the Reuben which was pretty good. Fair amount of meat, bread a tad too buttery, but fresh. I chose fruit as a side which was fresh. Big chunks of pineapple, honeydew and cantaloupe. J had the Turkey cranberry burger with waffle fries. Bun was a big ciabatta bun, smothered with a lot of sauce. He said it was good. The complimentary bread which tasted like mini scone hockey pucks we could have passed on, but the honey butter was good. Nice option. Food alight. Service excellent. Would probably swing back, but only if in the area.

No "Redneck Yacht Club" at this lake! Sure there might be a place on the lake that only a few folks know and if you ask country singer, Craig Morgan, he may actually let you know about said place, but odds are you and Craig aren't friends. Instead, I'm going to send you to a place that lots of folks know and there are no; "bass-trackers, Bayliners or a party barge" that is serving up some delicious food. The Lakes Tavern & Grill in Woodbury, MN may not have a place for you to anchor your gem of a boat, but this no-wake zone has plenty of room for your automobile and I recommend you make a trip to this Woodbury oasis for some food that will satisfy everyone's appetite. It was my wife and I's first trip to the Lakes Tavern & Grill and after reading over the menu a few things caught our attention and were a must order. The first thing that caught our attention was a dish that we can thank our friends to the north for called poutine. We've always wanted to try it and figure it was a good time to take a stab at it. For those of you who have no clue what this delicacy is, I'm about to let you know! Start off with some French fries, season them and add in some cheese curds and delicious gravy pored all over, forming this fantastic, delicious, yummy, whatever you want to describe it as dish we know as poutine. Dear Canada (Quebec to be exact)... Thank you for providing the world with something so ridiculous and yet so AWESOME! Lets move on to some of the other items we chose to try, flatbread pizza and their take on a comfort food classic, mac n' cheese. My wife wanted to try the Lakes flatbread which consists of roasted garlic olive oil, artichoke hearts, prosciutto ham, mozzarella, Roma tomatoes and topped with fresh basil. If that sounds like the worst thing you've ever heard of, it's time for you to broaden your horizons because this stuff is fantastic. My wife and I were comparing it some of the other places we tend to get our flatbreads from like Punch Pizza. While I thought the Lakes flatbread was a better product, she leaned more towards Punch being better. They're completely different and BOTH excellent options. We're on to my favorite comfort food, mac n' cheese! Made with a white wine sauce and loaded with cheese, tossed with cavatappi noodles and finished off with toasted bread crumbs. WHAT!? It sounds good and even better... it tastes great! You can add shrimp or blackened shrimp for an additional three bucks or a number of other ingredients for just a dollar more and we decided to add in some chicken. Go ahead and add whatever you want and make this classic mac n' cheese your very own creation. There may not be "astroturf, lawn chairs and tiki torches", but everyone is welcome, not just the regular Joes and I'm on board for stopping back to try some of their other tasty sounding treats like; the Lakes nachos with their signature wanton chips (are you kidding me? :) ), crab cake sliders, their other flatbreads, braised short ribs in a maple beer sauce (making my mouth water just thinking about it), rotisserie chicken with a cool cilantro mint crème sauce and maybe a burger or two. So.... What are you waiting for? Get off the real lake you're on and head to Lakes Tavern & Grill.... Your SPF15 can wait for another sunny day!

SO pleasantly surprised to find such tasty grub in Woodbury! While the atmosphere looks like the typical chain restaurant, the food was surprisingly tasty. The mac and cheese (choose your additives) was done perfectly for the adult palate - al dente pasta and a light but cheesy sauce (had mine with prosciutto and spinach), the pork egg rolls came with lettuce and cilantro for wrapping (yum) and the Reuben was packed with a nice quality corned beef. The cole slaw was clearly hand made and crisp and refreshing, not sweet. Service was efficient and friendly. Lots of noisy kids inside so beware if you are looking for a quiet cozy dinner. I would have liked to see some more healthy non-chicken entrees on the menu, as not all of us are poultry eaters - but that seems to be a universal problem in the Twin Cities. Overall, quite satisfied, and if in the neighborhood would be happy to stop in again.

Had the Friday night Fish/Cod special - great batter but only 4 pieces of fish. The Prime rib was fatty and cooked inconsistently as I asked for it medium-rare and parts were well-done. Good service by our waitress. Wish the chef would bring back the ceviche

Lakes Tavern seems to be going for an upscale bar / grill kind of vibe. It sort of pulls it off with a few hitches. I'm going to get the complaints out of the way first... promise I will have some good things to say too. First of all, it is rather loud in the place, even in the restaurant area despite being segregated from the bar. This may be a personal preference issue, but some other reviews here indicate dark / cozy atmosphere. Don't know how jet-engine noise goes well with dark and cozy. I remember the noise being a distinct issue with the former restaurant that occupied this spot - "Bostons." I was only at Bostons once but remember it being really loud... so much so, (in the restaurant area) that it was definitely a consideration which kept me away from any future visit. Next, I would like to comment on the cost of the food as related to quality. I had the Cuban sandwich, and added a wedge salad. The Cuban sandwich arrived as a wrap on flat bread. It was not lacking in portion size and the pork was tasty. That said, I just was not crazy about the sandwich. For the price, I just wanted it to be more spectacular. Instead of being on flat bread... how about on freshly baked bread pressed panini style. This is what I expect in an upscale bar/grill. Where is the flavor in flat bread? The wedge salad was nothing special either. Best wedge salad I've had recently was at Outback Steakhouse. My wife ordered shrimp tacos. I had a bite of the shrimp. It was tasty, and the plate was staged extremely well, but for the price to quantity, the shrimp tacos were not a good deal. (In defense of Lakes Tavern... my wife says it has been her experience to receive small portions whenever shrimp tacos are ordered in any restaurant). Ok... enough negativity. Positives: Fast!!! Our food came extremely fast... and our waiter was attentive in a good way. Also, as other reviewers have said, it seems to not be a chain restaurant. That is a good thing for Woodbury. If you're a beer drinker they have a good selection on tap with local varieties including some from Rush River Brewery out of River Falls. Our food was far from bad, in fact it mostly tasted good. Nothing to jump up-and-down over but definitely not bad. For the price though, I doubt we'll be back soon. We will use the money saved from Lakes Tavern to sadly dine in one of the many local chain restaurants. Next spring/summer we'll be back for sure though as we've read in these posts that pets are allowed in the outdoor seating area. We'll bring our hound dog there to check it out. It will no doubt be less noisy outside on the patio than it would be inside Lakes Tavern. Lastly... mints. Ever notice how some restaurants give out mints and some do not? What are the criteria to either support mints or no mints? Ok... maybe if your a chic enough restaurant, you don't need to pass off mints to customers with the check, or offer them in a bucket near the host station. In the case of Lakes Tavern... mints would have been nice.

Was visiting the area for the first time and turned to yelp for a place for dinner, and found Lakes. Previous yelpers have it down... this is a solid place. I sat in the bar, which appeared to be a popular gathering place. The staff was so great... not only in helping recommend what to eat (as soo much looked good) but also in packing up all my leftovers, as the portions were huge! I got a salad and the pasta with broccoli. The herb rolls were tasty especially with the honey butter. The iced tea is heavily brewed, and I like mine a little more on the lighter side. But all in all, great food and phenomenal service.

Nice option of eating in the more formal dining room with plenty of booths or the bar with bar top tables, booths, and plenty of big screen HDTVs. Happy hour offers $5-6 appetizers and a drink special where your second drink is just $1. They also allow you to enjoy their Happy Hour in the main dining room if you request it. Their nachos are fabulous. You get a choice of chicken or italian sausage with them, or half of each (my favorite). The deviled egg trio is a twist you don't see anywhere else. Their flatbread pizzas are good sized and delicious. The avocado club sandwich is a perfect blend of chicken, bacon, and avocado on ciabatta bread. My wife loves the cobb salad, they use steak to enhance it. We have had nothing less than upbeat, helpful servers who appear to enjoy working there and are proud of what they have to offer.

My wife and I and 5 year old ate here late last week. Decor is very nice but food was disappointing. I had the blackened grouper sandwich which was OK only, not bad just OK. The "special sauce" is just spicy brown mustard. My wife had a chicken pizza with spicy chicken, crushed tomatoes and onion. Even less impressive than the grouper sandwich. Again, not bad just nothing special. My little boy had the macaroni & cheese which was also just OK. Service was great though and food delivery timely. Place was crowded so maybe we didn't pick the best choices but for the money spent, I'll try other restaurants when shopping in Woodbury.

Showed up after my daughters soccer game. They seated the ten of us almost immediately. Waiter/Barkeep, Ryan, took our orders and was happy to keep items ordered by player number. Ordered Cuban Sandwich, while not on Cuban bread was very tasty and I would certainly order again. The roasted beets side where a nice change from the standard French fries . . . My daughter ordered the Double Bacon Cheddar Burger. The beef was excellent and over all a very good choice. I finished off the last 1/4 of the burger and would also order it on a future visit.

They had an event for their customer loyalty rewards program members on their patio with free tap beer and brats, which was very nice of them. Once the event was over we went into the bar area and our server had a major attitude and chip on her shoulder. Horrible service. They also sent out emails prior to the event promising certain drinks specials. They also had a large banner in the bar advertising the same specials. Despite showing the waitress the printed out email I received with the specials and pointing out the banner hanging in the bar, she still would not honor the specials. I had to ask for the manager and even he gave me the run around and finally reluctantly agreed. In the end we still didn't get charged the right amount. They had this great customer appreciation event, which got people in the door and then their horrible service alienated me. I don't ever want to go back.

3.5 Stars I've been to Lakes Tavern & Grill twice and wouldn't be entirely opposed to going back. It is not on or near a lake so I'm not sure where the name comes from. It's a huge space so I can't imagine there's ever much of a wait. There is both a bar area and a proper (kid-friendly) restaurant. The menu is expansive and eclectic. There are very Midwestern items, such as cheese curds, wild rice meatloaf, and deviled eggs, Americana standards such as wings, salads, and burgers, and some items that seem like they might be more at home on a different menu, such as wonton nachos and seafood in parchment. The food ranges from OK to good. Nothing terrible but nothing outstanding. While I applaud Lake's effort to have a diverse and somewhat adventurous menu, I think they would benefit from narrowing the scope and focusing on making the food taste really good. I have not tried the desserts but they look delicious. I have also not tried the patio because we have only visited in the winter. The service has been great. On our last trip I first asked for a modification of my meal and then there was some miscommunication about what I actually ordered, resulting in a second entree being brought out. If our waitress was even the tiniest bit annoyed, she did not let on. She also charged me for the cheaper of the two entrees. And she let me sample a beer before I could commit to one. I was being a giant pain and she was friendly and accommodating as could be. Lakes Tavern and Grill is located in the suburban wasteland but isn't a chain or fast food restaurant. Almost deserves 4 Stars just for that.

An upscale atmosphere with more to offer than just bar food in Woodbury? This place has it. With a tasty twist on nachos, an awesome wedge salad and delicious fettuccine for my man, this place is quickly becoming one of our suburban faves.

Yay!

I find the atmosphere to be open and cold here. The food is ok, I feel like if they would keep the menu item's simple it would be much better, Instead I think they try to fancy it up too much for what it is. Decent happy hour.

I've been to Lakes Tavern twice now and have had decent experiences both times. The food is good, hot, and doesn't take forever to get to you. The atmosphere feels great and not suburban at all. I also love that Woodbury is getting more bar/grill type of restaurants that are not chains. I'm vehemently against chains 90% of the time, so this restaurant is welcomed with open arms by me. The first time I went, we ordered the big pretzel (yum), an order of the house chips (double yum, do it), and I got a 'build your own pasta' that lacked a little bit of flavor (as an Italian girl, I should have known better!). The second time, I shared the buffalo chicken wrap with my niece (it came with delish waffle fries) and had a small caprese starter salad...good vinaigrette, really good mozzarella. My husband has had burgers on both occasions and has thoroughly enjoyed them. I took one star away because the service felt a little scattered to me both times that I was there. My water glass was ALWAYS full (good), but we had to ask multiple times for them to bring our house chips (not so good). The fact that it was a little scattered didn't make any sense to me, since I was there at like 2pm both times I went...so there weren't many people in the place. Overall this is definitely a place we will frequent in our quest to avoid chains. It's worth a few shots, as their menu is big and has a lot to offer.

Great happy hour here! Decent selection of craft beers, wines, and cocktails. I had the Korean bbq wings and I was happy with my choice. My Scottish ale was delicious! Hubby had the short rib sandwich and was pretty disappointed. He said he expected more meat than sauce - that it was like stew on a bun. However, he had a ginger drink that he loved and wants to come back for. The reason we keep coming returning is the donut bread pudding. It's like cinnamon donuts squished together with a ton of gooey caramel, topped with ice cream. They have some of the best desserts in town, so it's worth a stop here for a sweet and a cocktail!

This place is a classy American bar and grill. The menu has all the favorites like salads, burgers, chicken, steak and apps. I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. I had the blackened shrimp tacos off the lunch menu. They came with pico, mayonaise, and a spicy sauce. There was a side of rice as well. The shrimp sauce was very spicy, almost like straight tabasco sauce. Will for sure be back to this place.

An upscale atmosphere with more to offer than just bar food in Woodbury? This place has it. With a tasty twist on nachos, an awesome wedge salad and delicious fettuccine for my man, this place is quickly becoming one of our suburban faves.

Yay!

Service was timely and pleasant. Prices are a little high, but the food on the patio did not disappoint. Good for kids as well.

The service is outstanding. Best I've seen. The food is great also. Grilled cheese, tomato basil soup, hamburger n fries, shrimp tacos. And complimentary homemade chips while waiting for our food which came quickly. Great ambience. Wish we had one at home!

For a Newer place one would think that a Little Effort would be put forth in the Kitchen but our food was a bit Disappointing Nothing you cant find at any other Average and Below Bar /Restaurant My I hear it's good but I found it to be not so Good ,They will get 1 More Chance in a month or so ,So Step It UP!

Good food and mostly reliable service. Try the fruit and walnut salad, burgers or Asian inspired boneless chicken wings.

Great service! Food was Amazing! I have gone to both the dining and the bar area many times and have never been disappointed. Great place to bring your friends or family even co workers.

The herb roasted chicken tasted like medicine... Cedar creek salmon is was too fishy! The mango curry chicken salad sliders was the best dish of my night.

That is going to happen, isn't it?

got the flat bread and chicken salad. Flat bread was dry but salad was good. Had a nice atmosphere. Would probably go back if I lived closer

Went for lunch & enjoyed some football in the bar area. My husband had the turkey pot pie and I had the short rib hoagie with fries. Dessert was a sinful donut bread pudding topped with ice cream. Excellent food and service.
