    Any time you have a large group and the wait staff is patient and accomodating, you have to give the place props. The pizza is pretty good and they were rolling it out in good time. Definitely the "local" pizza shop atmosphere and I would go back.

    Best pizza in Winona by my opinion. Staff is friendly and the food is good. Nice large pizzas with an endless amount of choices for toppings. Pasta is just as good along with their sandwiches. Another staple of this WSU alumni.

    If you like a thin-crust pizza cooked with love, this is your best option in Winona! We've never ordered the salad bar or other menu items, just keep it simple with a great pizza and a pitcher of beer or pop and we've never been disappointed. My family has been eating Sammy's Pizza for more than 55 years (starting way back when my parents were college students at Winona State and they still called it "pizza pie") - and you should do the same!!

    Pizza was good, would have been better if the delivery didn't take well over an hour and the pizza was lukewarm at best when received. Gentleman who answered the phone when I called to see how soon our delivery would be was downright rude and YELLED that all deliveries were out on the road and hung up on me. 1 large pizza (chicken alfredo) with an order of cheese bread was over $35 before tip! Dominoes would have been less expensive, hotter and probably better.

    Hands down the best pizza in Winona. Over 5 years at WSU, I spent a ludicrous amount of money there. Greasy as heck, not very fast, and not the best customer service, but dang the pizza is good.

    I am aware the kitchen is not a dedicated gluten free kitchen and took the chance when ordering gluten free pizza knowing flour particles are in the air, but I was assured that the best proper precautions were taken to ensure the gluten free pizza was as gluten free as it could get, given its exposure to normal pizza kitchen elements. The fresh non- contaminated ingredients, clean and dedicated utensils, and baked in its own pan in the oven, were why I trusted the pizza making process. However, this is not the case. The pizza making area makes it impossible for pizza to be gluten free. Fresh non-contaminated ingredients are NOT used, unless it is slow and the staff is able to get from a new batch of ingredients and are asked. There is just too much risk associated with ordering "gluten free" - as the gluten free pizza is really not gluten free, only the crust, before it is prepared. The Sammy's Gluten Free pizza would be a great pizza for those individuals who choose to eat "gluten light," not for those with Celiac or Non-Celiac gluten sensitivities. The service in Winona has always been top notch and it's a great family pizza place!

    Five stars if based on pizza alone. Subtract one star for pizza with wrong ingredients (offered to subtract $2 for putting onions on by mistake. Not enough when a person doesn't like onion). Subtract one star for the chintzy and expensive onion rings-average price = $1 per ring. Subtract another star for value. This place is expensive!! Two pizzas (Lg and Md), two small glasses of white wine and the ring plus tax =$58!!. We're talking pizza-not steak or seafood. Big city prices in a small town. We must have ordered off the tourist menu. Steer clear.

    Pretty good pizza, no frills. We got delivery. We ordered the Original Crew Special, it was pretty loaded with onion, green pepper, mushrooms, sausage and pepperoni. The thin crust is good and crispy on the edges. We will order them again.

    Good pizza that I occasionally have a craving for. Best sauce in town. Have yet to try the gluten free, I am skeptical. Delicious wings. If you bring in a movie stub (the local newly remodeled movie theatre is just a block away) you get a free pitcher of rootbeer! YUM! EDIT: I have now had the gf pizza crust! There may or may not be some leftover in my fridge right now. It's fantastic.

    Full disclosure: I love the Sammy's Pizza restaurants in Duluth and Hibbing. The Sammy's in Winona doesn't appear to even be related. My pizza was very undercooked--I am not a big fan of white cheese on my pizza. I nibbled around the edges while waiting for the waitress to come back and found out that since I took the corner piece, they couldn't throw it back in the oven. Sad. My wife's spaghetti was good though with huge portions of pasta--Hooray! The decor is similar to the locations in Duluth which is fine. Watch out for the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga machines in the back if you have epilepsy as they will give you a seizure from the flashing monitors. Bottom line: if you are okay with bad service but good pizza, eat at Godfather's down the street.

    Though certainly not gourmet, Sammy's originated in the early '50s and is exactly what it should be--partially burned crust topped with a slightly sweet tomato sauce, meats and veggies as ordered, deep melted mozzarella perfectly browned, and finally the most wonderful layer of 1950's-pizza-place-type-grease. Yummy! Moreover, it takes a buffoon with at least a master's degree to rationalize disdain for white cheese on a pizza; that ilk should keep their collective butt inside their elitist academic bubble and stick to their pretentious PC fluff. GO SAMMY'S !!!
