Excellent cafe! Great breakfast. I had the Chai oatmeal, and it was delicious! They have a big menu with food items, many healthy options, and they pastries look amazing. Attached to a bookstore so great place to get some studying done.

Awesome half-bookstore / half-cafe environment. I've only enjoyed dessert and coffee here as part of an evening poetry reading event that I attended recently, but I would definitely come back were I to be in the area again. Very friendly staff, nice selection of pastries, tea & coffee drinks, and bottled sodas, and a super-pleasant environment to spend some time in. A definite treasure in Winona!

Nice place! Excellent sandwiches and tasty soup. Very friendly staff, nice vibe. I had the Italian Lentil soup, which was very nicely done, and a simple turkey sandwich which was fresh and assembled with care (a surprising rarity in the world, which often features sandwiches randomly heaped in mindless disorder, making me sad). Atmosphere is bright and clean, unlike a nearby coffee shop which seems to have a really hard time keeping tables clean ;-) Location is in a very quiet part of town (in a town that is awfully quiet) but for a quick bite they can't be beat. I haven't had their coffee yet, but I'm hoping it's as good as everything else!

I played a show up in Winona, this past Friday and after the show I asked some locals where to go for Coffee the next day! And that's how I ended up at Blue Heron! It was so great I ended up here twice, once when I woke up at 7:30 am and then again at 11am when my riding home partner woke up ready to drive back to Iowa! The place is rad, half cafe/coffee shop half book store! Beautiful big windows, open seating and a really super nice staff, who remembered I came in earlier and gave me my second coffee as a re-fill! They also had vegan chocolate chip mint cookies, I'm vegan so anytime I see that in the bakery case, I got to go for it! I'm so glad I did! The cookie was magnificent! Crumbly, and soft my favorite kind, and went perfect with the fantastic dark roast they were brewing! If I lived in Winona this would be my hang!

A friend took me here while I was visiting her in Winona. I wish I had a coffeehouse like this where I live in Kansas. The coffee and food is good but most of all, it has a great, chill atmosphere. My friend touted the scones, so I ordered their scone of the day, which was pecan with molasses frosting. As a person who has loved and made scones since her trip to England over 10 years ago, I am hard to pleased when it comes to this tasty pastry, and Blue Heron's is legit. I love the lightness of the scone but it is heavy on flavor. The pecans were perfectly toasted, and there was plenty of delicious frosting for every single bite. We also had a coconut brownie that was okay. My daughter's hot chocolate was too hot for her to drink, so I ended up drinking some of it and loved the chocolate flavor. I thought I ordered a decaf vanilla latte, but I didn't detect the vanilla. Nonetheless, it was a good espresso drink. The walls were covered with artwork from elementary and middle school students from town. Additionally, it's just a laid back place, and I love that it shares spaces with a neat book store that has a play area for kids. There is a castle in here that was the perfect size for my daughter and my friend's daughters to play "Frozen" quietly while we drank our coffee a few feet away. Winona is lucky to have a great, local coffeeshop in Blue Heron. Whether you're just stopping in town for a day, a student here for a few years, or a local, you'll find something to like about this place.

Great local coffee spot in Winona. We come here often when visiting for their breakfast and coffee. I don't drink coffee, but I enjoy their chai tea. The frittatas are delicious! We get them every time. There is a bookstore attached to the cafe, so it's nice to browse books before or after.

This is a great casual place for a coffee or a bite to eat. It is attached to the adjacent book store for a nice relaxed vibe. The food was good and they have a supply of local pop. I was expecting a bit more from the food, but the portion was good size and the ingredients were fresh. If you find yourself in this small town, I recommend this place.

First time in Winona, and this place was a pleasant surprise. Excellent, healthy lunch; great soup, great bread. A nice vibe to the place. Super casual, inexpensive. Highly recommended.

The Blue Heron Coffeehouse is a treasure of a breakfast and lunch spot in Winona. Everything is made from scratch, and local, organic and seasonal whenever possible. My favorite menu item is the muffaletta half sandwich with their goat cheese & pear salad. My children love their waffles. The ingredients are very simple and clean, yet the flavor combos are dynamic and soul-satisfying. I guarantee you'll be happy with your coffee drink, as the staff have all been properly trained. The owners are quality food lovers, and thrive in providing a warm community gathering spot with quality food and coffee to their customers, most of whom are regulars. You can feel the love in this beautiful place! I'm originally from Winona, and an hesitant to admit I'm a bit frustrated by the lack of appreciation for good food here. The Blue Heron is a definite exception!

Nice inviting atmosphere. Enjoy that there is a bookstore. Lots of seating and a lot of art and pictures on the wall. The best seat is tucked back in corner of book store, a nice cushy high back chair. Great way to spend a lazy morning.

Cute coffee shop. Just stopped in for a quick breakfast. Not a lot of choices but muffins were excellent. Nice friendly staff.

Very fresh cold sandwiches. Soups are good, probably some of the best coffee in town but too hot to drink when it's first served so ask for an ice cube! Laid back atmosphere. A bit of an older crowd than Acoustic. Nice, friendly, family owned local place.

This is one of the nicest coffee shops I have ever been to. I was there for breakfast and they use fresh vegetables and fruits. The quiche and frittata were very delicious. It also looks like a great place to work on a lap top or just read a book. There is a book store connected to it, so maybe buy a book there and read it while you eat. I loved this place. If I was from Winona, I would be there a lot. The prices are a little expensive, but you really pay for great quality.

Superb food and coffee. You will feel excellent after eating fresh organic foods with a creative menu. Blue Heron probably doesn't have any Michelin stars but it's reason alone to visit beautiful Winona, MN.

This place is the absolute best! I have always loved the Blue Heron and the friendly staff that works there! I was recently at a wedding that they catered, and it was nothing short of phenomenal! From savory to sweet everything was delicious!

This place is the Platonic Ideal of a coffee shop--every other one must be compared to it, and each will come up short, way short. The vibe is amazing--a fascinating combination of natural, intellectual, eccentric, and cozy. An out-of-towner, I stopped for the first time yesterday not knowing until today that yesterday's Mpls. Tribune had a short letter to the editor entitled "Blue Herons." Coincidences like this cannot be ignored and are meaningful in a way neuropsychologists haven't yet discovered, nor do I but I have my theories. I had a turkey sandwich with chipotle sauce, which was the best, most satisfying thing I've had since my last doener kebab at THE place for it in Berlin in 2011. It was off the charts good--the staff is as good or even better, if that's possible. And, by the way, the bookstore is phantastisch, the best in Minnesota south of Magers & Quinn. If they could bottle has been created here, I would drink it every day-- I think it might make me smarter and more likeable.

Simply THE best coffee, soup, sandwich and salad restaurant in Winona. The bake goods are of the highest order. Many years of tasty treats in Las Vegas hot spots made me one fussy eater. Blue Heron meets my every expectation. Creativity and consistency are absolute hallmarks. The less seasoned travelers may find it a bit pricey, but when one considers the quality of the food and baked goods, the prices are certainly inline with other outstanding coffee shops outside of Winona. Find me another sandwich with fresh baked whole breads. The egg salad, a midwestern classic, on their whole wheat is like eating granny's best egg salad on cake. The wheat breads mouth feel is cake like and not your typical grainy, often bitter, and seedy, whole wheat elsewhere. Don't forget the Thursday evening meal service. Those menus are also amazing.

I was in town visiting recently and was very impressed with the breakfast frittatta with olives. A great low key, friendly, place to visit for coffee and a quick fresh meal. (Plus there is a small bookstore connected to it.) If I lived in Winona, I'd be a regular.

Coffee shop with a few typical breakfast items, sandwiches after 11 AM. Connected to a bookstore, nice hangout place to have coffee, food was nothing special but good oatmeal.

This place is awesome. While the portions are not that big, the food is of great quality, always fresh and the menu is always a bit different, but do not fear you can always find something that tastes good! Great atmosphere and decor, my favorite place for a nice weekend lunch or breakfast.

Sadly, this is probably the most overlooked coffee shop in Winona. Ironically, it is the best one. Lattes never have crusty bits at the bottom, the hot cocoa is delicious and creamy and there is a bookstore connected to the coffee shop. It's a dream! The place isn't very big but there are several tables and a few stools by the window. It is cozy, warm, and a great place to just relax.
