I was skeptical about going here at first since it is attached to a hotel but I am glad that we went in. The atmosphere was really cool and you can sit out by the pool. The place was packed but still comfortable. Service was very acceptable considering how busy this place was. My glass was never empty and I was never looking for the waitress. I got the tuna. This place seems to be more of a steakhouse but for some reason I was in the mood for something different. I didn't expect much because they had very little on the menu as far as fish but my piece of tuna was absolutely perfect!! Most places cook the fish way too much but I cut into exact perfection. The vegetables were just as perfect and fresh tasting and the garlic mashed potatoes were awesome!! That is a huge compliment from me because I normally only have a bite or two of any potato that I order but I ate every last bite. We felt like desert so we ordered the strawberry cheesecake. You get an enormous piece that is plenty for 2 people and would probably be enough for 4. It was also perfect! I can't say enough good things about this place and will definitely be going back for a second try.

The burger was fine. I'm certain I'd add an extra star if either a) I'd had a Rudy-tini, a WBL martini, or b) I'd eaten on the outdoor second floor deck.

Nice outdoor seating but the breakfast we had was a mess covered in sauce. Way to much sauce, the drinks were not as good as I've heard either. Service was okay at best. Paid way too much for this mess of a meal.

Excellent atmosphere, great service and the food was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and for being as busy as they were, our food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the mozzarella stuffed chicken breast which was terrific and my husband got tuna which he enjoyed. The strawberry cheesecake we ordered for dessert melted in our mouth, it was delicious. The manager Paula is exceptional, she makes you feel at home. Highly recommend!

BLAND + OVERPRICED The atmosphere is nice and I bet the rooftop is great. However, have been to Rudy's twice and both times the food and service were mediocre at best. The french onion soup was 90% bread and cheese, 10% onion soup. The lemonade was warm. The prime rib and pasta dishes were under-seasoned and my chicken/mozzerella entree was tough and try, totally inedible. The entree portions were way too large. For the price, things should be MUCH better. Very "hotel food". The service we had both times was very awkward, including little miscues like handing the bill to my mom - on Mother's Day. When you see three people who did not eat their food, do you offer them boxes, or ask them if something was wrong? Offer them boxes to take home their untouched overpriced and bland food, according to Rudy's. Bottom line: Skip Rudy's, it is NOT worth it.

This is really more of a 3.5 review. I've been here several times for lunches and dinners. I prefer the quieter atmosphere of lunch. Food has always been huge portions and prepared well. The menu has a lot of options on it, which according to Gordon Ramsey, can be a bad sign because it's harder to be good at a wide variety of items. I would say it is not a particularly creative menu, but I can always find something that sounds good to me and I enjoy it. Of course, having a Rudytini prior to eating will always make the food taste better. For those of you not familiar with a Rudytini, it is a full shaker of raspberry vodka mixed with several fruit juices and a shot of champagne. I recommend you share this with a friend if you want to remember your experience here at all. The Rooftop is a fabulous way to spend a lazy afternoon with friends soaking up the sunshine.

I can't count how many times I've been to Rudy's... 50 times possibly more for quiet dinners, late night drink & snack to family gatherings for holiday meal-buffet. Definately a local FAVORITE. Comfortable for small or large parties for dining or just a few cocktails and watch a game. Classey & comfortable atmosphere perfect for chatting with friends, date night and well-behaved children. Atomsphere in the bar is nice but the booths in the dining badly need to be refurbed. Food is not cheap or spendy and consistantly very good. Waitresses are usually attentive and bartenders are as sophisticated as you get for this hockey town ( ... ie) don't glare at you if you something other than a beer or rum & coke... ). Pasta dishes, walleye, seared tuna, medallians, salads, sweet potatoe fries, fish and chips, all appitizers are consitantly good quality. Occassionally prime rib bland but usually pretty good. Dinner for two: an appetizer, two entres, one shared dessert & three Guinness & two martinis ... around $80+tip.

New rooftop patio! It's beautiful! Comfy outdoor seating, giant umbrellas, a fireplace, kitchen for a small selection of food, & a bar, Located inside the Best Western in White Bear Lake, the restaurant is beautifully decorated with dark wood & low glow lighting. Happy hour app & drink specials starting @ $4.00. Tini Tuesday = Rudytini for $10. 2.5 raspberry martinis for ten bucks is a steal. Yum!

I have gone here for just drinks and apps and dinner and have never had anything I don't like. The food here is amazing along with te drinks and the atmosphere. Love this place and look forward to summer so we can sit on the patio. Very classy place!

We had the Thanksgiving buffet today. The service was impeccable ! The food was not. The au gratin potato's were cold & not thoroughly cooked hard-yuk. The ham was mushy & tasteless. The turkey was not real- meaning some type of pre-fab sliced meat-yuk. The apple crisp, again the apples were NOT thoroughly cooked. Over $60 dinner for 2 people !?! The expectation is HOT food thoroughly cooked with seasoning & flavor. We will never return. Plus when I called for a reservation was told that "our buffet is the best in town" . Sweet potatoes were not included either. I don't think garlic mashed potatoes are a good choice to serve with traditional Thanksgiving meal.

I'm really stingy with the 5 start rating, but my wife and I went here for dinner last night. Wow was it fantastic. They made the best prime that I've had in a long time. They served with with au jus and horseradish on the side. The horseradish had the perfect amount of kick. On the side they served a 5 cheese "mac and cheese for adults" (can't remember the actual name) that was probably the best mac and cheese I've ever eaten. For an appetizer we did the crab stuffed mushrooms which completely lived up to the 5 star rating. Dessert was the chocolate cake, which was actually the low point in the meal. The cake was just a little dry. Overall not as good as some I've had in the past. I love the atmosphere in this place. At night you can do business casual - formal. Having been in here numerous times in the past though I know that for lunch and breakfast it's more casual. Overall great place, good service, great bar selection. (They serve their martini's with a whole shaker. So have a DD if you're gonna knock one of em back on your own). I'd put it just on the near edge of "spendy". Two entree's, appetizer, dessert and two drinks was $85.

Really nice atmosphere. Too bad the menu is mediocre and the service is extremely uncaring. We sat with alice. Although she had access to both blue cheese and olives.......she wasn't sure how to bring them together????

Lovely oudoor patio w/ decent beer selections. My only complaint was the music, too young for us. Would love to have heard some Bob Marley, Van Morrison, or some good oldies. Restaurant has a gorgeous bar and the 4 or 5 times we ate at restaurant we were always satisfied. Food quality seems above average, just a bit pricey maybe if you're watching your $$$.

I just had the strangest experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I was staying in. The hotel after full day of travel. I had a beeper to alert me to my reservation availability. Unfortunately for me it was set off accidentally and I had to wait 40 minutes longer. A server would have been appreciated. Not to happen. I ordered a cocktail and an appetizer. Guess which arrived first. The server really tried but the evening was mess. To pass the time as a photographer I was taking photos for a project I am working on. As I was taking photos a strange little man accosted me and asked what I was taking the photos for. I have heard of these incidents occurring in China and Russia but never here. I guess the surveillance of our citizens is more pervasive than we thought.

The food at Rudy's was great. The fish on my Black and Bleu Ahi Tuna salad was beautifully pink. And the large shaker portion that they gave with their summertini was well worth the $16. It was the small details that seemed to really throw me off. My date and I arrived to a mostly empty restaurant (everyone seemed to be at the rooftop bar). The restaurant itself boasts a luxurious dining room with a classic boudoir theme. So you can imagine how confused I was when I found the silverware not to be wrapped in a table napkin but a cheap face towel you can buy 10/5$ at Walmart. Did they get these from the attached hotel? When we were brought complimentary bread, our server brought one roll for each person. Seriously? Even Olive Garden isn't that stingy. These things aren't huge problems, just a bit contradictory to the overall luxury dining experience theme. Again, great food, just confusing details that I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices.

Rudy's has that sort of old school fancy restaurant without the fancy price. The reason we came to Rudy's is that we have a block of rooms setup at the hotel connected to the restaurant for our wedding. We will also be staying at the hotel for the wedding night, and we might come here for a night cap. At first I was a little skeptical. The service wasn't stellar out the gate. There was a group of waitresses hanging around the hostess booth just talking. They sort of gave us a look of "why are you bothering us" when we walked in. Took a minute for someone to come up and offer to help us, even though there was a team of people right in front of us. They might have been off duty, but if that was the case don't stand at the hostess area. After that little hurdle we were seated in a quiet booth and looked over the menu. The food is very classic american. Simple sandwiches, soups, and salads for lunch. They also had a good selection of beer, wine, and cocktails for very reasonable prices (being from CA pretty much everything in MN is very reasonable though). Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. Not stellar, but I can't find any major fault in her service. I decided on the cashew chicken sandwich and a french onion soup. The cashew chicken was delicious. The bread was buttery and rich, the chicken was moist, and the cashews added just the right crunch. A very well done chicken salad if I do say so. The soup was also good. A little on the saltier side for me, but not to the point that it ruined the dish. A grain more and it might have tipped it over. I'm excited to come back in the summer to checkout their rooftop bar. Very solid choice for a yummy bite that won't break the bank but is a step up from a more casual dining experience. 46/100

I love Rudy's solely for sitting on their rooftop. It always seems to be very crowded on nice days, so definitely plan to spend some time lounging on the couches and enjoying a cocktail before you're able to be seated. The rooftop is fairly new, only having been finished a few years ago. I love to come here for happy hour! Especially on Tuesdays because their Rudy-Tini's are only $10. If you don't know what a Rudy-tini is then you're definitely missing out! It's a shaken raspberry martini topped with fresh raspberries. It's so refreshing and definitely strong. You're also given the full shaker so I recommend sharing of you have to drive! The service is usually pretty quick once you're at a table and the servers are always friendly. The food is pretty good too! I've tended to stray towards the salads and wraps for the most part. I really love the veggie wrap but I always add chicken to it as well! Always a good time and a fun atmosphere.

Had several drinks. Rudy tini was great even though it was 16 bucks. Christian the waiter, was cool. Put up with our crap. All we ordered was apps and I think that was the way to go. Like the upper deck but don't get placed in the corner by the ac unit (REALLY WARM). Still love this place. J and B.

I had the Cajun Caesar Chicken Sandwich with fries and a Jameson Coke on the rooftop. They were both excellent. Highly recommended. Service was attentive. A local favorite.

Where to begin? Pro's Ample parking. Friendly staff. Nice flavoring on the green beans. Cons Sitting anywhere even near the opening to the pool are adds the aroma of chlorine to your meal! Prices are much too high for menu selections! My coconut-batter covered shrimp had the tail shells on and were totally covered and pressed into the shrimp making it impossible to see. I had to spit out my first bite and then remove the batter on all of them in order to find and remove the tail shells! VERY messy and they were overdone as well. My baked potato had been under warm lights for way too long. Our server was friendly but very forgetful. It's VERY loud so if you want to whisper sweet nothings you have to yell! My 3 dinner partners were underwhelmed with their meals as well - chili too blah, veggie wrap boring, salad w/blue cheese adequate. Wine -meh. It's extremely unlikely I'd ever go there again.

So I've been staying at the hotel for a couple weeks now. Thought maybe I would finally give the rooftop restaurant a try. I'm just by myself so I asked the waitress for a seat at the bar. No need to get a table. There was one seat open. Guy behind the bar said it was open. Then this guy who aparently needed to sit next to this woman confronted me and said "This is my seat". He had that look like he wanted to confront me and possibly start a fight with me for daring to just sit down. I'm a 55 year old guy, my fighting days are way in my past. Eric (The manager here) should there be security at the roof top or something? I just wanted a bit to eat. Not to get threatened by some goofy bar fly. It was definetly a WTF moment

My wife & I were very satisfied with the food. The prime rib was delicious, tender and generously-sized for the price. Delicious green beans! The service was friendly, but a little shaky - more interested in making sure I knew about all my potential up charges than just bringing my preferred side... sorry, no anchovies for the caesar, here's a tall instead of a pint (I guess I'll take it!), forgot my wife's wine. Overall a good experience, but we'll likely check out other spots in White Bear Lake before coming back.

The service was really friendly and welcoming. However, the food wasn't very enjoyable. I got the sirloin steak cooked to medium. It came out well done and super dry. My friend got the pork chop. It was so dry that it barely went down without drinking water. It's a nice place with a rooftop just to hangout and grab some drinks and appetizers on a relaxing afternoon, but don't expect high quality food.

The venue is great up on the Roof Top. Flip flops and sunglasses are at the entrance for your use, it you wish to get into vaca mode. You're up on a roof top patio where every table has a big umbrella if you need to use it. The food was very good. My only complaint was the Margarita I ordered.... very bad, but my mistake....obviously not in a Mexican restaurant. Order the martini like drink that you pour over fresh berries - that is the house drink and it's good.

We have been going to Rudy's since my in-laws took us there the day we bought our first house. The waitress was very kind and brought a round of champagne on the house. We knew this was a place that really cared about its customers and knew how to celebrate with them. Since then, we have been going there for every birthday, anniversary and bring my parents there every time they come into town. Their bull bites are our favorite and NO ONE else can come close to their awesomeness (and we have tried them all). Their are so many more great things we have enjoyed so I'm just going to run the list: coconut shrimp with orange marmalade, BLOODY MARYS, rooftop patio, steak, tilapia, Rudy's Favorite Appetizer Sampler, Coco-Buff-Bull, poolside seating, and so much more.

My family and I decided to dine at Rudy's because a steak and their sweet potato hash browns sounded like just the thing we needed to warm up from the lovely -12 degree weather. We left Rudy's full and nowhere near satisfied. -Location: Rudy's Red Eye Grill (REG) is connected to a Best Western Hotel off of Highway 61 N in White Bear Lake -Parking: Spacious surface lot but you may have to park further away due to an event being held at the hotel -Décor: Dark yet inviting due to stained glass accent lights and a warm fire place. A large area of the restaurant is dedicated to the bar due to the hotel/ event crowd that frequents the restaurant. -Food: The food wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't great either. Everything I ate was mediocre and lacked seasoning. Based on the price and quality of the food, I suggest eating elsewhere. Popular sit-down chain restaurants such as Applebee's have better options, taste and overall value. Although REG serve's large adult portions, I didn't eat over half of my meal and I had no interest in taking my leftovers home. The apple crisp was watery and over sweetened, the chocolate cake looked amazing but ended up tasting like something out of a high school cafeteria's freezer, the only thing giving the calamari flavor was the lemon I squeezed over it and the Rudy burger was bland even though it was smothered in BBQ sauce. -Customer Service: The service was okay. The server's seemed to be on edge and doing their best to smile despite possibly being understaffed (based on my observation) Summary: Maybe I'm being a little harsh, but the food was expensive and not that great. I have to remember that REG is a restaurant connected to an economy hotel; however that doesn't justify why the food was so blah and unforgettable! My suggestion for REG is to cut the menu in half and focus on making the food they offer phenomenal. Go here for the drinks, not for the food. Note: This review is based off of sampling five different entrees, two appetizers and two desserts

I have eaten at Rudy's on two separate occasions - once for lunch and once for dinner - both as part of of a large business group. Had the patty melt for lunch, which was very good. Had the blackened pork tenderloin for dinner, which was awful - overly salty and greasy. In fact, another person in our group had a different "blackened" entree the previous evening and did not like it. Overall, Rudy's is a great place for large groups. The atmosphere, decor, and ambiance is very inviting. I will definitely return, but will not order anything "Blackened."

More like a 3.5 actually... First time I went here, I drank too much on an empty stomach waiting for dinner and was slightly intoxicated by the time I got my food. Apparently, I believed it to be the best damn steak and potatoes I'd had in a while. We came back a while later, and, while it wasn't terrible, the alcohol had clearly affected my opinion of it. I mean, it was good, don't get me wrong, but, well, we haven't gone back since. It wasn't that fantastic that it was worth the trip out again, contrary to my earlier belief!

A must stop for lunch or dinner. I come in to town a few times a month and am addicted to the walleye sandwich. Great bar area to have lunch. The staff is great too. Have fun and check it out.

Rudy's is inside the White Bear Country Inn, a Best Western Hotel. It's another mediocre midwest meathouse. The food is OK; the above average prices are justified with lots of dark, heavy wood -- the sort of decor that was considered upscale in the sixties.

I've been to Rudy's several times and I've never been disappointed. The rooftop is amazing although the limited seating and no reservations make it difficult for a group larger than 4. The Ruditini and sweet potato hash browns are the reasons I keep coming back. They also have bar snacks which are great.

Sucks for a special occasion. Made a reservation a month in advance and obviously they overbooked, we got sat in the "fireside room* no fire, just a conference room. Same overpriced menu. Not happy.
