I've used Grandma's Bakery twice. Both specialty cakes, one was a picture collage for a 70th birthday, the other a baby shower cake to match the invitation. Both cakes were beyond my expectations in design. But, the best part is when people say how delicious they are also. The employees are always friendly & very accommodating. I will ALWAYS get my cakes here!

I found myself in this neck of the woods and as always, had to try out a new bakery. This was their big bakery with a little storefront. Now, it was about 3 pm, so the selection was more limited. I was looking for a fancy donut, but they didn't have any. She said there was one that was creme filled like one of those little cupckaes, but they were sold out, so I was bummed. I ended up getting a cherry donut (flavor of the month) and a lemon lime cupcake (it was the only cupcake left that was filled). I NEED my cupcakes to be filled. The donut wasn't that great. The cupcake was delicious. The lady who was working was so nice and put up with my indecisiveness and questions like a champ. I want to try out their main place sometime if I am ever in the area again, and try to go earlier so there is more of a selection. Also, there were samples of something delicious. I don't remember what it was, but it was very good, very sweet.

You cannot go wrong in this place. We have had cookies, cakes, and other yummy treats. I am sorry that my review will be short, but when you have an awesome bakery there is not much more to say. You want a great baked item, come here. It helps that they are close to my home, but I would probably drive across the Twin Cities for some of their treats.

I was at a house-warming party and they had a cake from this place. They do beautiful custom decorating, it was of the invitation with a photo of the house. The vanilla cake was great, too full to try the chocolate, but it looked great. I may have to investigate the actual shop.

Seriously... Worth the drive... The best cakes, customer service, & personalized gifts! I have worked near Grandma's Bakery in Maplewood for 12 years. Every time there is a special occasion, my co-workers & I pick up something to celebrate @ Grandma's. They specialize in bakery decorating. They have cupcakes, cookies, mini cakes, birthday cakes, holiday cakes, wedding cakes... a cake for every occasion in every different shape & size imaginable. & not only do these cakes look good, they taste fabulous as well. My boyfriend's birthday was just a day away & last minute, I thought I would get him a birthday cake. I called Grandma's Bakery & asked them if they could make me a rock climbing cake that read "Happy Birthday" to be ready the next day. They asked what color hair my boyfriend had & said the cake would be ready the next day. I was a little nervous giving such a vague description over the phone, but decided to go with it. What they produced was better than I ever though possible (see photos) for $17. The cake was amazing & my boyfriend was so surprised. I have also ordered cookies w/ "congratulations" on them, baby shower cakes, & even gingerbread houses from them during the holidays. All have been great. A MUST TRY! :)

Products are amazing! Guest service is horrible. I went to the downtown white bear location on Monday to ask for a quote on a cake I needed for my fiancés Grooms's dinner on Friday. I had another bakery lined up already but preferred to use Grandmas, so I figured I would ask if it would be a possibility to get it by friday. I was told it would be no problem for them to get me the cake I showed them by friday, but their main bakery would be able to give me better information on prices and they offered to give them a call - they were very sweet! I declined and offered to head there myself so I could speak to someone in person. I drove there and talked to the girl at the counter who was absolutely clueless. I was told I couldn't get a quote, I needed to email the info. Frustrated I stood there IN the bakery and emailed the info in. I called later that day, they didn't have an answer for a price. On Tuesday I got an email stating my email was forwarded to a baker. I called later that day to see if a price was ready... The person I spoke to said the bakers had the info and there was nothing more she could help me with. I reminded her I needed it by Friday, sounding incredibly annoyed with my concern she repeated that the baker had the info and she couldn't do anything else to help me. I finally got an email today (wednesday) saying my quote was ready and to call the bakery. I call, there wasn't a quote ready... I was simply told my cakes wouldn't be possible to do in the time frame. but they could make me a different cake What!? Maybe if they responded to inquiries in a timely fashion it would be ready. Horrible experience, absolutely no sense of urgency or guest service, when I expressed my disappointment both through email and over the phone I was basically given a casual "oh well" response. Do the managers and owners of the bakery really find this service acceptable?? I don't and I unfortunately will not be going back there again.

If you want an excellent homemade apple pie, I highly recommend this bakery. I am a home baker, who has made apple pies for years, so I know a good pie made with fresh ingredients when I eat it. I have made an effort to buy pies from many local restaurants and bakeries in the area to check the quality and have found that most do not offer a very good apple pie: too sweet, do not use fresh apples, poor seasoning, etc. The most delicious homemade pie in my opinion is Grandma's Bakery. This pie is made with plenty of fresh apples, real sugar, flaky crust, and the right balance of spices. It was easy to cut pieces that held together, so if presentation is important, it passes the test. The price was also very reasonable. They charge about as much as it would cost to make one at home. I also had such great service there. My clerk was friendly, informative, and patient. She made sure to take time to package my pie very well, and when we were done with the transaction, she encouraged me to try some of the samples on the counter. When I left, I felt good about coming to that store.
