Last year I reviewed what was an old friend that disappointed me. This year we saw the sign, "Under New Management". We were with my brother and his wife and decided to give it a try. It really is new management. The decor is all new, the salad bar is gone and the menu went upscale. I don't think it is more expensive than last year, but it is much more stylish. We both had vodka martinis. We are very demanding about martinis and the bartender did a very good job. Not the best I've ever had, but very good, very cold, and the blue cheese stuffed olives set them off perfectly. For dinner, we had what you have to have at least once each trip to Northern Minnesota, fried walleye. It is probably significant about how I felt about the new management that I entrusted this once a year meal to them. The meal did not disappoint. It was excellent. We are very pleased that a restaurant that we had cared for and then became disenchanted with has made such an amazing comeback.

The Ranch House was in desperate need of updating. The good news: much of it has been updated making for a more modern experience. The bad news: chairs and tables remain from the pre-renovation. Restrooms are still old and icky. Even the 'restroom' sign looks like it's 50 years old. It was suggested by our server to take the kids outside to see the koi in the koi pond. The pond was disgusting and full of muck. No koi were seen - hopefully they are alive. The food was average at best and very highly priced for this area. My ribeye cost $29 - it was served cold. Other dishes were also underwhelming. Hopefully the new owners complete the remodel and improve the quality of food as compared to price. We will try again next summer.

A group of 10 of us wanted to grab a bite to eat before a 6 p.m. meeting. The server got us in and out in 1 hour; very efficient. We all ordered sandwich plates; burgers with chips or fries; a couple walleye sandwiches; a couple of pulled pork burgers on toasted buns. All reports were very good. Personally, I'll be back for a more leisurely dinner. The menu looked very intriguing.

Wow, this place certainly had a facelift! I was excited to try something new but it was a cluster from the beginning. There were 3 servers who couldn't seem to get a party of 5 or us, a party of two seated. I wondered if they were really busy since many diners came after the Ron White show at the casino. Not so much...there was about 8-10 tables at different degrees of their dining experience. So, still anticipating a good meal, we were seated. I have red wine and my hubby had a tap beer, which they do have a nice selection. Living up north, my expectations are, "it is what it is". But, looking at the menu, I was quite surprised and excited to try some new dishes! Our server scrounged up a menu, they seemed to be short of them. We checked out the menu and decided to order some apps. Our server seemed to have other things on her mind and didn't really spend much on explaining items. So we had the deviled eggs...dill, regular and one with a strawberry slice on it. My hubby liked 2 of the three. He said the strawberry one was bland. After about 10' we received the phyllo/asparagus/gruyere/ which was quite tasty. It had some purple squiggly things on it which were crunchy and good but they ended up on both apps, and both of our entrees. It looked like it was on every entree! I ordered scallops with corn risotto, not much corn and maybe a mango sauce on it? It was tasty but when I asked our server for some crushed red pepper, she stated they didn't have any and didn't offer an alternative. My hubby had the caesar salad and the shrimp curry. He enjoyed both but he asked for extra anchovy wasn't extra in his mind! He enjoyed the entree. I ordered another wine and a beer during our entree's since I didn't think I'ld catch our server. The reason for the "3" is due to service! We seemed to be the last thing our server was concerned about. I would be more understanding if they were busy or opened in the last couple of weeks but that wasn't the case. I don't have to have a server go above and beyond but that is the reason they are servers is to serve patrons! The food was good and we will be back. The icing on the cake was a lady asked us when we were leaving how our meal was. She was disapointed and wouldn't be back. I always like a new place or owner to succeed but the servers need some work!

This place use to be one of my favorite destinations when coming up here. I came for the Friday all you can eat fish fry and popovers which were awesome! Now the place is all redone and looks okay but for the price it's not worth it. They were going for a high priced look but the chairs are old and flimsy and the tables as well. The food was good but it just all took too long which was okay because we were in no rush but I liked this place for the weekly all you can eat meals. Now most things here are $20 plate dinners that are just okay. The Ranch House to me doesn't sound like fine dining it should be good home cooking! It use to be but it isn't now I'd just skip this place altogether. It's sad because this place was actually pretty special to me and my wife! Hopefully it will go back to how it was or this place most likely won't last long. If it's not broken don't fix it is the pretty quote for this place but they tried to fix it and it didn't work.

We really wanted to like this new version of an old favorite restaurant. For us, it is a 30 mile drive so food Has to be good. The server was busy and slow to seat us but she did fulfill my request of a table near the window so we had a view of outdoors. Drinks were slow to arrive ( she was the only server I saw) and hubby's Manhattan was subpar. There is a good selection of wine which I had. the Caesar salad was served California style but contained wilted lettuce ends. not a good beginning. His scallops were cold and only three very small ones in the risotto he ordered. My pot roast was nicely presented and was in a delicious gravy with vegetables done just right. However, we won't hurry back because of the food. It is a shame but improvements are in order even if it means shortening the menu and ensuring each dish is a credit to the chef. Bring back the popovers!

For a supper club out in the middle of nowhere in Northern Minnesota, it's actually pretty good! The 'world famous' pop overs are unique and quite tasty. I do feel that it needs a little bit of a makeover. It has an old time appeal that hasn't been updated in years. It definitely is a dinner atmosphere, that caters to the senior crowd and nothing else. I enjoy the old time music that plays in the background, and the staff is great!

Our experience here was disappointing. Food is very pricey, service was poor, and the quality of the food was disappointing. The soup on the salad bar was cold The person who stocked the salad bar was removing wilted lettuce from the salad bar as she tried to refresh it My wife had to return her food to the kitchen to be re-heated because it was too cold to eat It took over an hour to get our food and the waitresses were so under-staffed that they didn't even clear the table before serving dessert The fish on the "all you can eat fish fry" is Pollock which is not native to Minnesota at all so you shouldn't think that you're getting freshly-caught local fish from this area that has an abundance of fish

Service was terribly slow, our finished dishes were never bussed before our desert arrived. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Took 2 1/2 hours for dinner! Not going back.

My parents have dined at the Ranch House every year that we went to Walker, MN on vacation. Since approximately 1981... So I had really high expectations when I finally was able to go with! I was disappointed. The decor hasn't been updated in a long time. Which could be charming, but it wasn't. The tables are covered in a red checkered plastic. Red checker, ok.... plastic, no. The servers had on different types of black bottoms, and red t-shirts. The shirts are fine, but I felt like the bottoms varied a lot. Service was ok, not amazing, but fine. The place was not busy on all-you-can-eat Chicken and Ribs ($17.95) night. I didn't think I wanted to spend the $1 more for chicken I didn't think I'd eat, so I just ordered a 1/4 chicken meal. Bad idea. First off, the salad bar was sad. It's touted as being 24 feet long, but it wasn't. They could have added some additional options like spinach, additional vegetables, but they still had pudding and peaches as selections. Then I got my chicken with a baked potato. I got a thigh and a wing. A WING. For $16.95, I got a THIGH AND WING. And a TINY baked potato. With a prepackaged thing of sour cream. I did like the popovers, and my son loved the ribs. But I still feel like I was cheated. Also, they didn't offer a children's menu option of the ribs. My daughter wanted ribs, but the only way they were offered as a children's meal was if she got the all you can eat chicken and ribs for $3.50 less than regular price. My daughter could definitely not eat enough food to justify a $14.55 plate.

We travel to this area every summer. For years we always had at least one meal there while on vacation. We skipped a couple of summers after an experience there a few years back. Went last summer and things seemed to be better. But we are back to taking this off of our "things to do while in Walker" list for next year after this visit. The sign on the salad bar was marked Beef Stew for the soup, it was clearly not that...in fact it was Chicken Noodle. The popovers were served burnt to the point you could smell the burnt scent when they arrived at the table. They were inedible. There were 7 in our party. Not a large group when there was only 4 other diners in the restaurant at the time. The food was bland and the baked potatoes were hard. I had the prime rib which was just mediocre. My husband had a ribeye steak which was bland. One of the others in our party had the pasta bowl with alfredo and chicken. It also was not good. The prices are on the high side considering the quality of the food is not there paying roughly $20-25 per person.

We had lunch on the outside patio and it was great. The popovers were perfect and the special with salad bar excellent. Everyone was friendly. I would suggest this restaurant to everyone.

So I am going to blame Ranch House for at least part of my vacation weight gain. The entire crew ventured here and when I say crew, there was about 24 of us. Walked in and there was a little wait to be seated however not too bad. We were seated in the back of the restaurant in a somewhat private dining area. I believe that was primarily for the other patrons dining that evening. To say that this restaurant is unique is definitely an understatement. Driving from the highway, you are greeted by a LARGE billboard style sign notifying that you have arrived. The outside decor does not match the interior where as the exterior is rather bland. Not a bad thing by any means, just saying it doesn't match the interior. As far as the interior goes, you walk in and are greeted but the cash register with a full bar just to the right and behind the register. The restaurant seems to be broken into three separate dining areas, two side areas separated by a wall then a back are (where we were placed) separated by a hatched fence type look. In what I will call the main dining area, there are booths along the left wall that look like covered wagons. Probably pretty cool for the young ones and I suppose it adds something for the atmosphere. I myself felt it was a little over the top and would be a little confining. As indicated, there was a full bar available. Since they didn't have an IPA, I ended up going with a local beer that reminded me of a Guinness. It actually had a very good flavor to it and a pretty hearty beer. Our server was amazing. To deal with 24 of us and get all of the orders correct was an unbelievable task in itself. Not only was she efficient, she was very friendly as well. The food itself was pretty decent overall. They had a pretty vast menu and nightly specials are offered. I ended up going with the prime rib and while it wasn't exactly how I ordered it, it had very good flavor and was huge proportionally. Most meals are served with vegetables, potatoes, salad bar and a popper. A popper is basically a deep fried hollowed out bread served with honey butter. It's a nice treat but not my favorite. The salad bar was really the weak point of the dining experience. They kept running out of ingredients and we'd have to wait for the items to be refilled. That was probably the only major downside to the meal. I felt that the pricing was a little high for the area but everyone seemed go enjoy their meal and left with no room left in their stomach. Not a bad option if you're in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. Pricing I felt was a little high for the area but no one left feeling hungry and everyone was pleased with their meal overall.

Whenever I spend a week in the upper parts of Minnesota, I always seem to stop by 'The Ranch'. I usually order the baby back ribs which are always juicy and tender. The meal comes with a pretty standard buffet-style salad bar, and the world's BEST popovers! Seriously slap some honey butter on those bad boys and you will be delighted! No complaints, but remember that you pay for your meal at the bar (weird, right?) we sat around for 20 minutes waiting for the waitress to come grab our bill before we realized we hadta pay for it at the bar.. But that was probably our fault! If you're in the area, stop by for a nice dinner!

Roadside supper club that has made itself popular by the local. Something very unique you're sure to find is the decor. Food was good and prices were as to be expected. I recommend

An interesting place and we sat in one of the "stagecoach" booths. The place was filled on a Friday night and everybody seemed to be ordering the fish. Friday, Minnesota, etc. The salad bar is about the level you'd expect at a small graduation party. The lettuce was brown and if they could have done something to make the salad bar even less visually appealing I think they would have. Def a vibe of 'take it or leave it' with the wait staff, etc. The fish came. I've been eating fried fish on Friday nights since I was old enough to walk, all over MN and Wisconsin. This was the most bizarre thing: the fish nor the batter had any flavor at all. It was like what you'd think Soylant Green would taste like. The rest of the food was borderline okay. About the level of taste and etc that you'd expect at a very cheap diner. There was a line out the door when we left. People are seriously hard up for crap restaurant food in Walker MN, apparently.

This was my first time to the Ranch House. I have to say that the service was fabulous! Our server was top-notch and the menu provides many choices. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong food item. I ordered the char-grilled scallops with Bearnaise sauce. Sounds good, right?? WRONG! When the scallops arrived at the table in front of me--I just about cried! Talk about BAD presentation! The scallops were gray colored & looked pathetic. They were swimming in some yucky juice-like water and they tasted cold, tough, and blah. I tried to dip the scallops in the Bearnaise sauce, but the sauce was so cold & jellylike (also tasteless) that I stopped dipping. In addition, everyone at our table was served COLD mashed potatoes & gravy. Our server did recognize the potato situation and immediately took our potatoes to heat up. I would be reluctant to hurry-back to the Ranch House anytime soon. I may stay away from the entrees & only order a sandwich or appetizer in the future. I'd suggest that the chef reconsiders having the char-grilled scallops on the menu. And I'd highly recommend to anyone to stay away from ordering these. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the service I received.

It's a supper club. The food gets 2 stars- it's fine. The atmosphere and decoration earn it another star. It's craaaazy in there; the booths are covered wagons. The music is romantic 40's hits. I recommend going.
