A DOWNTOWN STILLWATER LEGEND Before it was Whitey's, it was Johnny's Bar. Like for a million years. Johnny's is where you finished up your barhopping in Stillwater. Probably still is, some things you just can't change ! Whitey's cleaned the place up big time. All those years of smoke, grease and grime, ish. But it looks good now. But where are the purse hooks under the bar top? If you are serious about what you drink, come here. A fabulous wine selection, flavored vodkas, jeez, that's all I really care about :-) knowledgeable bartenders, and a surprisingly sophisticated menu. I only had the homemade chicken dumpling soup, and if that is an indication, food is good. I kind of like my soup, soupy, not so thick. Points for the shredded chicken instead of cubed. Yummy. WHAT ? A GREYHOUND MADE WITH FRESH SQUEEZED GRAPEFRUIT AND I MISSED IT ? I'M SLIPPING

GREAT owner, GREAT apps, good food, good atmosphere. It's a chill, bar-type local feeling joint with some nice local beers and really good food. come solo or with a crowd, they are very accommodating.

Very good breakfast the juice is fresh squeezed and delicious, keep up the good work, my only complaint is that they could open up abit sooner then 10am on the weekends

Wish they had bigger/better/more TVs. They are really missing out on an opportunity in downtown Stillwater. Also, NO HAPPY HOUR?????????

I have to do Whitey's every time I come back to Stillwater. Always end up getting the slow roasted beef add mushroom and pepper jack for around $10. Decent beer on tap. Delicious bloody Mary's and fresh squeezed juices.

Whitey's has a cool, small town "dive-ish" feel... Bartender was cool, the drinks were poured well. TUNA TATAKI---a must try when at Whitey's. I don't know where bar's in Minnesota get tuna from, but Whitey's getting some good fish. For Dinner, I had (by recomendation) the "Slow-Roasted" Beef Sandwich (aka French Dip). The sandwich was good...really big, but a bit dry if it weren't for the au jus. Also gotta try the roasted peppercini's, as I hear Whitey (or his staff...) roasts them himself.

Ok, so a few things. We only came here for food because we had to. Both Shanghai and Luna Rossa's kitchens close at 10pm and this place serves food until 11:00pm. That said, the food that we got was not good. We ordered calamari. I can not state enough, DO NOT ORDER the CALAMARI. It has 85% peppers and 15% calamari-like product. See attached picture. Sure we ate some of the calamari, but it's TINY, and mixed in with the peppers to make it look bigger. (We separated out the calamari to right in the picture). The menu doesn't mention anything about it being 2/3rds peppers. Our waitress was not nice. I had to order the food from the bar, and then the bartender wanted me to order drinks from our waitress although she never stopped by until I complained. F+. I also ordered the Vietnamese pork sandwich with Sriracha sauce. Meh, it was ok. Flavors were decent, but the pork was overcooked, dry and chewy. Grade: C. At least the French fries were decent. Skinny fast food style. A little light on seasoning, but the best part of my meal. Come for the drinks stay for, well, nothing.

Whitey's Bar. Just like the one in NE Mpls. Sunday evening, was pretty empty but we just jumped in and got the place going. Service was fine and fun. Drinks were good. I mean, if you're in Stillwater and want the MPLS feel, you're an idiot (you went to Stillwater to get away from the city). Whitey's is a great local bar (even though it's a city bar) it doesn't have that feel. It's quite, not tacky and they pour some good drinks.

We went there for breakfast. It was very crowded and noisy, especially from one large table. Food was good, the waitress quite attentive, especially considering how busy they were. I'd go back for breakfast or whatever.

One recommendation: GREYHOUND. Best in town. Freshly squeezed Grapefruit juice. Need I say more?

I don't give 5 stars after just one visit, but Whitey's seems like a 5 star type of place. It's not trying to be anything fancy or special, just a solid corner bar with respectful, attentive bar staff who pour excellent drinks and make you feel welcome. We stopped in here for a couple of drinks on our way to P.D. Pappy's and Whitey's provided us with the perfect pick-me-up after a disappointing experience on the Luna Rossa wine/cave tour. It may not seem difficult, but pouring cocktails of the proper strength is an art, and the ones we had there were near perfect. And we never sat waiting for long (but also weren't pestered to keep ordering drinks). They appear to have some solid bar food which I'll check out the next time I'm in town. High five, Whitey's!

Popped in for a bite and a drink before a wedding nearby. We ordered a bloody marry and some chips and guac/salsa. The bloody mary was decent. Not one that is memorable in any way, but not bad. The chips were a bit of a disappointment. The salsa was decent, but the guac was a rip. We got a small little container of it, and for the amount of money they charged for it you would've expected more. It wasn't very good guac either. Maybe I'm spoiled being from California, but this was just not up to snuff. The service was decent. The waitress understood we had limited time and got our food and drinks out pretty quickly. She also took care of the check in a timely manner too. I would come back for drinks, but probably pass on the food. 67/100

I am not sure why people consider this a dive bar because it is actually nice. Depends on how low you go I guess. I mean i have been to a double wide trailer in TN decorated in Christmas theme and only sell 1.50 canned beer. So I don't expect much when I decide to get down and dirty at the dive bars. Upon entering our bartender was a little slow to warm up to us but I broke him down and he was a decent dude overall. They had awesome music playing that ranged from Bob Segar/AC/DC and then some oldies. Laid back place to get your shit together the morning after! I had breakfast and enjoyed every last morsel on my plate. My eggs and hashbrowns were prepared well. just what the doctor ordered on a Saturday morning. I am in love with the fact that they have fresh squeezed OJ and Grapefruit. More bars should do this!!!!!!

Try the fajita salad! Delicious. Small and pretty cool. Not super fancy yet goes with the whole downtown Stillwater feel.

Food here is a step above typical bar food. Great selection of things on the menu, their beef sandwich is a favorite of ours. Typical adult beverages you would find at any small main street bar, nothing special, except they do have a few extra wine choices. Usually great service.

It is a decent joint. pretty tight to get around when it is busy. Prices are fair. Decent dive bar for Stillwater.

Came here to grab just a beer with a friend... Nice small town bar, friendly staff. Very laid back. Paid $8.50 for two beers... That didn't include the tip. A couple tv's were stationed inside the bar on sports channels. Within walking distance of the St. Croix river. Cute town, great view.

I am not 100% sure why, but I always end up at this bar after eating out on main street. It has a small town vibe. The bartenders are good, the drinks are cold.. Perfect combo! I am always satisfied! I have not ate here yet to review that.

We went to Whitey's the other day after i did a tri, so I really wanted some carbs and salt. Whitey's it was! I would give it 4 stars b/c our food was good, but my beer was warm and my glass had a chip in it so I almost cut my lip. I had the walleye sandwich, and my boyfriend had some sort of grilled chicken sandwich. we also got chips and salsa as an app - which was surprisingly good. the salsa and chips were fresh and homemade. a few people around us ordered breakfast, and it looked gooooood. we were surrounded by giant omelettes, and i'm surprised my bf didn't take out the waitress to get his hands on one. maybe next time, but for this experience - our lunch was much better than we expected!

Great place to get a bite to eat (breakfast, lunch or dinner) and drink (or ten). I always ordered the beef tataki or just a BLT and they are both solid and the price was reasonable. Staff has always been friendly and quick with replenishing your drink of choice. It is a little small and it can get loud, but the high-ceiling divey-ness and the tall, hardwood bar with the bar-length mirror is great. In the summer (when it's not too humid) they open the street-facing windows. It's like you're sitting on your front porch watching passers-by.

Great service, great food and great prices!!!! I had a 6 ounce fillet mignon that cost $14.95. It came with a huge serving of garlic mashed and steamed broccoli. My wife had the slow roasted beef sandwich that melted in your mouth and came with a huge serving of fries for $8.95. My sons Mac and cheese was homemade as well and tasted great. When we go back to Stillwater we will be eating here!

Best Salty Dog on this side of the St. Croix! The space is a little grungy but the service is friendly and makes up for it. Ordered wings- wow, you get a bunch!

This place is great. I've gone a few times, every time I'm in stillwater I eat here. The service is great and the food is amazing! The server even help me and my sister pick out our meals with a smile. The prices are also very good for the great food you get. I have never been disappointed coming here
