Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

The food is great. Ours came out hot and tasty. The cheese wontons are quite good; they have a different, subtler flavour than you find at take-out places. Kids meals come with the same amount of rice as regular entrees. Tap beer selection is good. But the service and ambiance are lousy. Servers are very slow and disinterested, and the music is loud and obnoxious. We've eaten here several times, but I think we won't be back. We might get take-out next time and maybe eat by the river.

I was here for a party and was able to taste a few things. I ordered the Maui Roll which was amazing! So fresh and delicious. The sampler platters were fun for everyone. Wontons are OK, I've had better. The asian pear martini is really tasty! We had a good time with good food. (Music was EDM which I liked but didn't really suit the atmosphere).

I went here with a party of 25. From beginning to end, the service took three hours. The server was very attentive. I started with the cream cheese wontons. Pretty yummy with the scallions. Next, I had the worst Pad Thai of my life. It was very tangy and tasted like it was soaked in lime juice. The chicken did not taste fresh. I could not eat more than a couple of bites. I tried my friend's sesame chicken. It was better than my dish. The portions are generous, at least. If you like Pad Thai, avoid their version. It seems like a fun place for drinks and appetizers.

This is my favorite place for sushi. The more you go the more you're like family. Tony is an excellent sushi chef. He will create something that anyone will like. Eugene is very helpful with all the annoying questions I had. They're both easy going gentlemen who know what they're doing. The servers are welcoming, even though I find myself always at the sushi bar they still come by with refreshments. Thursday in Stillwater, this is where you need to be.

This place sucks so bad it is not even possible. To say they serve sushi, is an insult. Wow, I would rather go down to the river bed and find a washed up carp and start gnawing on it than to ever go eat at this train wreck. However, to be nice, their happy hour wasn't terrible. +1 star. I bet the Jones' love this place!

After a difficult week, Saturday night was a much awaited date night. I was promised Shanghai Bistro, and the promise certainly delivered. Stillwater, where the bistro is located, offers an almost "West Coast" atmosphere where the winding, broad waterfront meets declivitous streets and cobblestone walkways. This lends a twist of atmosphere for a low-key, casual outdoor patio and an asian fusion-esque interior dining area. We sat on the patio, which is spacious and has cabanas that were not open yet, but are available for rent during the warmer months. There were many tables on the patio and at 6:00pm on Saturday we were sat promptly (we had a reservation, but there was ample seating). The patio is first come, first serve, and has a small bar. Be warned, ladies in strapless dresses and men in tank-tops: The closer to the back wall of the patio, the cooler it gets as there is more shade. There are warmers around the doors and against the wall of the building, along with a 'firepit' and some lounge chairs. Scout a spot, down a drink, and relax by the fire before you start your meal... Gan Bei! Onto the food! We started with an order of cream cheese wontons and sweet and sour sauce. The wontons were delicious, not too crispy (I have baby bird teeth) but not soggy or under cooked. I do believe they had onions in them, so clarify that for the picky eaters. The sweet and sour sauce was thin, almost watery and a bright hue of artificial, flamingo pink. Still good, but I don't suspect its house-made. We shared the Shrimp Tempura roll, and it was delicious! 6 pieces of crispy tempura goodness is something I hard a hard time sharing. It was modest in price too, and the ingredients were fresh. I wish I would have ordered more sushi, but now I have an excuse for a 2nd visit ;) I ordered the fried Udon Noodle bowl with Tofu, and I was impressed with the size and price. I'm a huge fan of tofu, especially done correctly. The cuts of tofu were large, thick and perfectly fried. The sauce was savory and sweet, yummy, and complemented the udon noodles properly. Broocoli, carrots and snow pea pods were mixed in as well. My boyfriend got the Coconut Curry Shrimp, which was phenomenal. The coconut was as flavorful as it was fragrant, which always accompanies a good yellow curry. The shrimp were large, juicy, and a meal in and of themselves. Broccoli, carrots and peapods were also included, as was a small side of rice. A little more rice would have gone a long way, as the entree was so large it needed more than a small side. Our server was attentive and upbeat, however, the service was a little slow. The patio was not packed to the gills by any means, so I would worry that in the summer at peak hours it could be a bit of a wait for food. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic dinner and I'm excited to go back for more.

Loved the outdoor patio on a Friday evening, with live music which was great. Enjoyed a specialty martini and the 'House Special' from the menu was excellent. The wontons weren't as crisp as we expected and the chicken and mixed vegetables was underwhelming. There is a wide variety on the menu; the red dragon sushi was ranked 'good'. But the ambience was excellent and overall really enjoyed the evening.

I wish you could give half stars, because this would be a 2.5. The biggest redeeming factor is it's beautiful rooftop patio. Although quite buggy because it is surrounded by woods, the live music and great weather made up for it. We showed up with (6) of us on a Saturday night, and were able to snag a table out there fairly quickly. Our server, unfortunately, was not on the same level of speed. It took approximately 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. Then another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. I understand it is saturday night, but the restaurant was not that busy and they seemed adequately staffed. We did find out later that their entire keg system went out (huge bummer and pain in the butt for their staff!), but no apology was given for the delay. We ordered some plates of sushi and I had the mango stir fry with chicken. It took about an hour for our food to arrive. Again, we wouldn't have minded had our server been attentive to our water and other beverages for refills. The stir fry had more of a consistency of a mango salsa, but was quite tasty nonetheless! The sushi left something to be desired from all parties at our table. Overall, a little overpriced for quality of both service and food. Not sure that I would be back.

This place is overrated. The food is marginal at best. It has little to do with the claim Asian origins. At that, it simply isn't that good. Beats me why anyone would go here instead of Osaka right down the street. It is a fun atmosphere and with enough alcohol anything seems fine, but in your more sober moments, avoid this place.

What a horrible first experience. We like the Shanghai in Hudson. We really want to like this location too--they dropped a ton of money on renovating their new downtown location to include a huge outdoor patio area. We arrived about 7:45pm on a Saturday night, and checked it. Wait for a table was 15 minutes. The hostess invited us to sit at the about 1/2 full bar as we wait for our table. Great! We sit down. It's only 1/2 full and the restaurant itself is probably 3/4 full--it's busy but not packed. We're a party of 3. We wait. We wait. To even be acknowledged. Finally Derek, young bartender, as he walks by us, throws down three drink menus. Still no eye contact, no hello, no nothing. Hmmm. Ok. We wait. I get up because I see a stack of what look like wine menus on the other side of the bar. Turns out their food menus. Derek is now on that side of the bar so I ask him, hey, do you have a wine menu? (knowing they do at the Hudson location), he says, "No, we don't". Still no eye contact, still no nothing. So rude. We almost got up and left right there. Screw you Derek, you're lying to me, and you're treating us like crap when we're 3 of perhaps 8 other people at the bar. You have time to serve us. So angry, when the hostess called us for our table, I politely asked who Derek was, and told her the way he treated us. "As you can see," I said, "we after 20 minutes we never got to even order drinks." Who knows if she's anyone to be able to do anything to get Derek right about his customer service. Our hostess apologized, our waitress apologized, however, that was a far as it went. Our waitress brought us a wine menu (HA, i knew you had one) and we ended up ordering 2 bottles with lots of yummy rolls. If this were my restaurant, I would have at least comped us a bottle of wine to make up for the horrible treatment, especially since it was our first time there (and my friend's first time to a Shanghai ever). I've been to many other restaurants and been comped for things far less severe. Sadly, we'll never be back. Love, your potential regular customers

I love this place. The look and feel of the room is slightly darkened with deep colored wood and the general decor quite nice, though not of any specific national origin that I could tell. It's nicely decorated and there's nothing over-the-top. The prices are gently higher than what you will find at local take-out places, and I'm perfectly ok with that because risking Asian food might result in a horrible outcome. With the prices come quite large portions that could easily be shared between two people, though you won't want to. I can promise that you'll be bringing home a nice lunch for the following day. The food itself is great. Since I'm not a chef I don't really know what to pick apart, but I can tell you it's certainly a higher quality in taste and preparedness. It tastes amazing! Overall I highly recommend this place. It's in a great location, near TONS of great bars and scenery, and of course great food and atmosphere.

The bistro has a great variety of sushi and traditional bistro food, so if you are hungary for a little of it all this is the place to go! The staff was great I would recommend it to anyone, plus there happy hour specials on drinks and sushi are awesome!!
(5)Alicia O.
Food was very good! We had two of the signature rolls as recommended by the server and there was nothing left when we finished! I would come back here!

Ate here for lunch today. There was only us and one other table in the whole restaurant which would make you think we would of had exceptional service. Quite the opposite. I think we had the manager serving us and he was not very Attentive. Very slow service. Took forever to even come over and take our order.. He was apparently too busy talking to a guy at the bar. He didn't remember one of our drinks and never came and checked to see how our food was. Everything was very slow for him to achieve from clearing our dishes, to taking our order, to refilling our drinks, especially when we knew he was just standing around. My friend and I are both in the service industry and could of probably taught him a thing or two. On a better note, the food was great! So kudos to the sushi chef!

Visited shanghai bistro for the first time for lunch with my mom. It was a nice day so there were people on the patio. There is a very large patio, a lot of seating but nicely landscaped. Our food (sushi rolls) were delicious. Would visit this place again.

By far my favorite place to stop when I'm boating in still water. The best sushi in the area. The patio is beautiful, the atmosphere is casual but classy. The service is spot on. You leave knowing you got your monies worth.

Love and love this place!! The BEST in the Twin Cities. I have tried many entrees and have never been disappointed. The staff is so much fun and personable. Try the Spider roll and the pork egg foo young. The owner is onsite quite a bit and makes sure things are top notch. The Martinis are awesome. Ask for Philthy!

Been here twice for dinner, not impressed at all. 1st time ( 2014 ) food was OK, service OK. Second try, Jan 2015, food just OK, table sticky, service, very slow and the place was empty. would not waste my time or money to go back.

Stopped by tonight as we were looking for a place we haven't tried in Stillwater. Despite the many wait staff wandering about, it took forever to get waited on, then another forever to get our drinks. By then we were so fed up we paid for the drinks and left. Can't comment on the food quality, but I don't have high hopes based on the lousy service. We won't be back.

Here for lunch on a very slow day. Gyoza was cold, spicy tuna was blah! The Szechuan chicken was mediocre. We asked for new gyoza which was replaced. However nothing was comped for our poor dining experience. Staff was friendly but forgetful. Wouldn't recommend a lunch or dinner but rooftop drinks would be fun!

In this town today for a little holiday shopping with my companion. It was mid-afternoon and we were a bit peckish. We wandered into this very cool "mall" and climbed the stairs to see the menu at this place. They had a bloody mary bar set up and it caught my attention (even though I didn't feel like drinking one at the time). It's not too often you encounter a fix-it-yourself bloody mary bar. Their Christmas tunes were playing a bit loud for my liking, and then we just happened to be sat at a booth underneath a speaker. I ordered a bowl of their miso soup. It arrived with a dirty porcelain spoon. I just picked up the bowl and began sipping, and then asked the server for another spoon when she came around again. Their miso soup was decent. Satisfying. Next I ordered their Gyozo - Japanese fried pork-filled "dumplings" (think pot stickers). They were good, although just barely warm. But maybe that's the way they should be. I don't know. I would have liked them better "hot". They were good, not great. Our server was plenty helpful and informative, if even too much so. This place would not be a "destination" place for me, but iff I was in town, I'd consider stopping in again.

Very nice atmosphere. Service was average. Food was quite plentiful. While good, the meals were bland.

Decent place to go during the summer to enjoy their patio. Their menu is all over the place but they do a good job for the most part.

I was there once on a Sunday and it was great! Went there for din on a Saturday. They had a DJ with house music. Very loud for Stillwater. No host available at 7 pm. We waited and was told the host would be available soon. We just left.

We went for an early dinner on the patio with 2 young kids and the staff was accommodating and nice. The food was very tasty. The homemade BBQ pork (Chinese style) was delicious. The udon soup was very nice with a good broth that rode the balance of sweet and savory just right. The noodles were that perfect chewiness that one expects from someone who cares about the soup they make. The spicy tofu dish was actually spicy!!!! For years, my complexion has driven Chinese restaurants to dial down their definition of "spicy" when I order. But not this time; I asked for spicy enough to make me sweat and the kitchen obliged. I greatly appreciated the spicyness and the dish was delicious. Thank you shanghai bistro for not making assumptions and listening to the customer.

I was craving Chinese food on a gorgeous Sunday night and I was out in Stillwater so I thought I'd give this place a try. Now I'm a Yelper, so I read the reviews and against the advice of my fellow Yelper's I give it a shot anyways because I didn't know if there was any other Chinese places close by. I sat out on the patio, it was sunny and in the 80's, they have a waterfall and they had live music. It was gorgeous! I will definitely be going back on a date with my wife (I was by myself this time). This might be the coolest and nicest patio I've ever eaten on. It was such a nice atmosphere. As for the service, it was awesome. It was hot so I was thirsty and had my glass of water refilled about 4 times. The server was very nice and helpful and paid attention to how I was doing, making sure everything was alright and that I got what I needed. So either I got their only good server or they've really stepped up their customer service since some of the last reviews have been written. I was impressed, especially going in with such low expectations. Now to the food... I only ordered one thing, I think it was called the house favorite or something. It was a stir fry dish for $15 that sounded good. It was pretty good, it satisfied my craving for Chinese food. I will be back to try their sushi as I am a big sushi fan as well as their other dishes. Overall with the service, food, and ambiance I give this place 5 stars. I was very pleased with my entire experience and I will definitely be back to try some other dishes with my wife.

Excellent food for lunch. The Miso Soup is delicious and the create your own bowl has plenty of options. Especially for the vegetarians and vegans.

Great patio, really good sushi Happy hour. Worth a stop on a nice day. Service was great when we were there.

Food was fine, but I have a new beef with them. They advertise Kids Eat Free Tuesdays, thought we'd try it out. We had an appetizer, beverages, an entree ($14), sushi ($18) and two kids meals. When the bill came I asked if the kids meals had been taken off. They had not, but she could only remove one because I had ordered sushi. So, we could have ordered 2 $8 entrees and received 2 free kinds meals, instead we spent over twice that plus drinks and appetizer and they jammed us for the second kid meal. Really bad form. It stuck in my craw after having an otherwise fairly enjoyable meal (even though my sushi arrived after the entire rest of my family had eaten their food and gone to walk around the mall). So for the price of a single kid's meal, a paltry $4, Shanghai has instead earned my enmity and guaranteed I will never eat there again. Good job Shanghai. And enjoy yet another crappy review for piss poor service. Now I know why there are so many one and two star reviews. Good food is only half of the equation in your industry.
(2)Casey W.
Fantastic sushi for being in Midwest! Sushi chefs are fantastic when you ask them to make there own creation and will make it so you like it- I'm not a super spice fan and they make it to my liking. Staff is fantastic and always curtious to help. They know what is in each roll to cater to any allergy people may have. Fantastic place to go. Patio is fabulous for a warm supper day with plenty of delicious spirtis to enjoy.

I love spending the Happy Hours of my day on Shanghai's AMAZING patio! They have great half price drink specials and cheap apps. I would agree that the service is rarely stellar, but once in a while a real gem of a waitress will catch you by surprise. The bar staff, however, is absolutely wonderful! They are friendly, on top of things, and willing to help find you a beer or a drink that you will really enjoy. My water glass sidecar is never left empty while and if they have a new beer on tap they are more than willing to offer up a sample. Plus, many of the young men behind the bar are nice to look at and chat with. The drinks (besides beer) are pricey outside of HH, but they food is reasonable and really good. This is my favorite Stillwater summer spot!

Sadly disappointed. I booked reservations for a party of 10. It was a birthday party and we were going to eat lots and drink lots and have a great time. The reservations were a huge mess. We were finally seated and after 10 minutes we had not been approached by any staff for even waters or a drink order. A member of our party approached the owner and asked him to send over a server. We waited another five minutes and still no server. So we again approached the owner and asked for a server. We waiting another five minutes. After 20 minutes of no service we walked. Fortunately we went down the hill to another restaurant and had an excellent dinner and dropped several hundred dollars. What a shame as the sushi at Shanghai Bistr-Hudson is excellent. The servers in Stillwater are clamboring to serve you out on the patio. Apparently no one told them that there were paying customers inside as well.

Super fun place with a great outdoor patio and live music and yummy Acai Cocktails

food was dull no flavor I will never eat there again

Sat at the bar on the patio for drinks and some appetizers. The patio is great and Rosa was great but Justin had a bad attitude. Never smiled, never even asked us how we are doing. My husband sat with an empty beer for way too long until I finally asked him to get us another beer. He screwed up our bill and never once said thanks for coming. Food good. Service from tall bartender on patio SUCKED! Oh ya and summer shandy shouldn't be $7.50
(3)DeAnna J.
Besides their crap sushi (sorry Shanghai), it's a dece place to go for Happy Hour! I love the patio! It's awesome in the summer! They even let you bring your pooch on the porch! :) They have these $20 Veev pitchers that are sooo good! Ladies and I always get the Mojito Pitcher and add fresh raspberries. :) Comfy outdoor fire pit to snuggle around with SOS. :) I will say that although this place is a glorified Chinese restaurant, they glam it up (kind of like how Estee Lauder over charges for product, you're really paying for the pretty packaging), and the food is dece! Happy hour, like I said - is really great! Would I ever go out of my way to dine there because I was craving it? No. Their fried rice is terrible, tastes like the crap you get at the mall via Little Tokyo, etc. Haha. Maybe again, I'm a snob because I can cook all that stuff at home? Anywho, if you're around the area and want a decent happy hour, stop there! :)

The first time I went into Shanghai Bistro, I was eager to try it, as the Hudson, WI location gets rave reviews. I am unhappy to say that I was sorely disappointed. My friend and I started out having a cocktail at the bar. We then decided to sit at a table and eat. We ordered egg rolls, a sushi roll and an entree. The waitress was a bit rude. The place was empty, it was a Tuesday afternoon, and we were treated like we were inconveniencing her every step of the way. We barely got our mediocre egg rolls and she handed us the check!!!! Who does that before the entree is even on the table?! Again the egg rolls were okay, there were not worth ordering again. I could get better egg rolls out of my freezer section in the grocery store. After that visit, I was determined NOT to go back. A few months later, I found myself trying it, just to make sure I was not too hasty in my first judgement. Once again, I am unhappy to say that the first judgement was a correct one. When I tried to order for delivery one lunch hour while at work I was informed that they were not delivery that day. So, I opted to pick it up for the girls at work. Four of us ordered sushi. When I picked it up, I actually had to search out someone to get my order, as neither the closest bartender or waitress felt I was worth helping. Whatever happened to greeting a customer when they come into your establishment???? After being handed my food rather hastily, I looked through it before leaving to ensure everything was in there. I was not pleased with my find. They put all of our sushi orders together and I was informed it was my fault for not asking for them to be separated. Ummm.... WHAT? My Hot and Sour Soup had no flavor, it was like yellow water with random chunks of tofu in it. Disgusting. My Szechuan Beef was okay, but the beef was tough and rice that came with it tasted like it had been sitting in a cooler for a few days before someone heated it up. All in all, I will be determined to boycott this business in the future and let everyone know what a terrible, rude, and over priced experience they are in for if they dine here.

Went for lunch the other day. We were told it would be a 15-20 min wait and the place was at least half empty. We left and went to Nacho Mamas and had a great meal and great service. Another couple left just before we did for the same reason. They said they were short on servers.??? Stillwater, summer, lunch hour and short on servers??? Sounds kind of nuts to me. May be the manager should have grabbed a couple of tables?? To be fair, my wife has been there before and liked the food and they have a good kids menu. If we go back and I have a positive experience I'll update this review. Too bad they have crummy service, I'd like to see this place make it.
(2)R W.
Zero stars if I can give one. This place was absolutely horrid. Wrong order to begin with. but no apology even afte we mentioned it on top of it we were charged for it. The food was just absolutely disgusting. The vegetables were bitter and chicken tasted like tofu. insipid. It is food for the drunks. Absolutely not worth the money. They need to apply to kitchen nightmares.

We used to frequent this place when they were in Woodbury and loved them so much we followed them to Stillwater...but things have changed. The last two times I was there for lunch, the Sashimi was mealy/mushy. The first time it happened I mentioned it to the server and she removed a portion of my bill. I assumed it was an anomoly and the Sushi chef agreed that it was a bad piece of Salmon that he had served. The next time it happened I mentioned it to the server again and this time the manager came over and tried to school me in Sushi and make me feel like I was wrong. Sadly for him, I grew up on the East Coast and I know what good Sushi tastes like, my dining companion spent several years in San Fransisco. We both know what good sushi should taste like. Since I didn't get any satisfaction from the manager---even after telling him that I wasn't interested in having my bill amended ---I was interested in them serving decent Sushi and I wanted to keep coming here..ie, I am TRYING to help you guys survive in Stillwater, I had my husband call the next day and speak to the owner. The woman who claimed to be the owner was very concerned and wanted to know all the details, but since my husband wasn't there with us for lunch that day, he needed to call the owner back with some details after he spoke with me. When he did call her back later the same day, she essentially went ballistic on him and wouldn't let him speak. My husband is a patient man, but after about 10 minutes of her harping so loudly at him that I could hear her (and she wasn't on speaker phone) and him trying calmly to get his message across to her- he finally just pushed the "end call" button and said, "I don't think we are going to get through to them". Sad, but sucky Sushi in Stillwater is not going to fly.
