One of the best breakfasts that my wife and I have had in sometime. Thank you.

River Oasis is a great diner. Good food without any frills; burgers are good, and if you're feeling adventurous the hangover burger will not disappoint. Get a peanut butter pie milkshake, you'll thank me later.

My FAVORITE place to get a burger and a slice (or whole) pie!

Great place for breakfast and lunch, I have not had dinner there. They can get very crowded for breakfast on the weekends so plan ahead. I have always had very friendly service, if the owner is there he will chat you up and make sure everything's perfect. I usually have the hangover breakfast sandwich, but the burgers are great as well. My only complaint is they stopped serving the walleye wrap for lunch, it was one of my favorites. The counter is great for those cold days when you just need a hot cup of coffee and a quick meal.

Haven't been to the Oasis in a long time, so we tried it again a few weeks ago. For some unknown reason, they charged me a .37 fee for "minimum wage" something or other. I know there was some hubbub about this place a while back when MN first imposed the mandatory minimum wage hike and they started charging it as some sort of political statement on it. But this is months, maybe years?, later and they are still charging it? Their greasy, over priced, lack luster food isn't worth it. I won't be back.

Outstanding breakfasts and lunches just east of downtown Stillwater. A former truck stop, this is not your typical greasy spoon. Best breakfast and service in stillwater.

Great breakfast spot on the edge of downtown Stillwater. It's your classic diner, small but comfortable. We came at 10:30 on a Friday with a party of 8 and didn't have to wait. They only have one large table on the back that could fit us but we were lucky to arrive right when the last party sitting there had just left. The menu is full of great, creative breakfast items. Unique to River Oasis is their haystackers, which is two eggs on top of a bed of hash browns and is loaded up with cheese and other ingredients depending on which haystackers you order. I ordered the Oasis haystacker which came with ham, bacon, sausage, green pepper, and mushrooms. I added their delicious sausage gravy which made the meal really come together. So many flavors!! We didn't have a long wait at all either. Again, this is a great spot for breakfast however, nothing blew me away enough to give it five stars. If I could i'd give it a 4.5

The epitome of bland. I think I have found a place that believes it is serving special food, when in fact it is totally milquetoast. This place is maybe a step above a Perkins, actually I would say half step. The East Metro has a long way to go before they ever get a decent restaurant.

I ate here and I got sick. :( Never again.

The Oasis has been voted the best restaurant for many years running. It is well-deserved. The food is amazing. No small portions here! I was there today. I had the hangover breakfast...croissant with amazing crispy hash browns and yummy sausage patties and a sunny side up egg and holland wise sauce. SO freakin' good. My brother had the Reuben and was impressed by the portion and the tasty sauerkraut. My Mom had the egg and cheese sandwich and was in love. The service is exemplary. Seems like all of the servers have been in the business for a while. They are fast and efficient and friendly. I love the Oasis. If you are craving breakfast in the St. Croix Valley, you won't be disappointed.

The coffee was awful, of the worst I've ever had. I ordered eggs benedict with sausage, which would have been fine, but it was cold and coagulated when they brought it out. There are much better places in Stillwater. Despite the food sitting under a heat lamp for 15 minutes, the sausage was pretty good.

i always drive by this place when i'm in the area. i take note of it every time because it looks quaint as hell, and i also know it to have been used in a scene in a movie, "Beautiful Girls." so we decided to hit it up for breakfast. walking in was a bit intimidating, as it was filled with a bunch of old timers who liked nothing better than to eyeball us outsiders as they sipped their coffee. not exactly a record-scratching, "NEW YORK CITY?!" moment, but definitely a local-yokel type of place. the menu was plentiful and inexpensive. the waitress was completely sweet and friendly. the cook, a youngish dude with sleeve tattoos, also popped in and out a few times and had friendly words for everyone. i ordered a classic breakfast and it was perfection. The hashbrowns were crispy and golden brown, the eggs done just right, and the toast was a quality bakery type. My companion was equally impressed with his meal of "jucy lucy" variation and fries. As we left, the staff sent us off with cheerful and sincere goodbyes and thank yous. The perfect diner.

I recommended Oasis for breakfast with a party of 8. My sister had to ask six times for a Diet Coke refill. 5 people were served a great breakfast. Twenty five minutes later the last 3 were served. The owner stopped by our table and was perceived by us as nasty. His response "it's busy. You want me to lose money and comp your meal?". We are an easy going well educated bunch and expressed disappointment with his response. He repeatedly stated then "you tell me what you want". We were not looking for a free meal. We will never go to Oasis again!

Was there Saturday 9/4/15 for the first time. Owner was very friendly as was all the staff. Joked around with our grandkids. All 7 of us had fantastic food. I had the Oasis haystack, daughter had the seared Ahi wrap, everyone else had burgers. Very good and trying to go again tonight for dinner.

I've been going here for many years but not just for their amazing breakfast. Personally, I love the hot beef commercial as well their burgers, which are fantastic. If I'm getting breakfast, it's a hard choice between the biscuits and gravy, haystacks, steak and eggs, or omelettes. I've never had a bad meal there or bad service. It can get busy and servers are running around like crazy but they still make sure you have what you need/want.

Dined here many times. Always great experience and a nice local vibe buzzing inside. Pancakes were fantastic. Hashbrowns crispy and delish. The waitstaff was great. If you are serious about dining here please disregard the stupid and incredibly uninformed liberal pukes that are posting bogus reviews here. Support local!!

  • Jennifer B.

This place is OK. I ordered coffee, had it served to me 3 different times because either the cup was dirty or there was an excess of coffee grounds in the coffee. Ewww. I gave up and had water. The wait staff was nice. This place is over hyped. The food was OK, nothing great or worthy of writing home about. My husband ordered an omelette that had FETA cheese, it smelled bad. He didn't get sick from it on the positive side. the pancakes are HUGE, order 1. Will we be back, No. Would I recommend it, NO. Do people like it? Yes, for reasons I cant understand. Really this is 2.5 star place for me.

This place feels small even though it is a decent size for a roadside diner. Don't go at peak hours if you want to get a good seat and don't want to be crowded. If you bring more than four people, you might be squeezing in together or waiting a few minutes for them to arrange some sort of seating arrangement for your group. Once seated, you'll take a look at the menu and find that their prices are darn low! There is a huge breakfast selection with short stacks, omelets, hash browns (I always have grilled onions and peppers added to mine), and other breakfast staples. If you're a coffee drinker, you'll get a mug similar to what you have in your kitchen cupboard (John Deere tractor, cartoon characters, and more). It's fun to see what mugs everyone at the table got and if you're ever had that one before. The service is prompt, polite, and attentive and the food is yummy. I'm a simple gal, so I don't need much more than that to be impressed and be a returning customer. I do wish that they had more vegetarian options for lunch/dinner and stayed open later. Just think of how well they would do if they stayed open late for all of the downtown bar hoppers or Stillwater high school kids... because their only late night sit-down dining option in the area is Perkins.

I can't believe I've lived in Hudson all my life and never made it here before. What a true gem and true step back into the good old days. One would expect at a greasy spoon to get decent-esque at best; River Oasis gives the cream off the top for sure. My steak and eggs were easily the best I've had that my mum didn't make me. I was also enchanted to meet one their regulars, a sweet old man that I hope to see again soon. Nothing better than great food, a chat with a stranger, and a full belly and heart when you leave. I am excited to eat my way through the menu for the rest of my life (because honestly, there's a reason this place has been around for decades and I'm sure it can only get better with age.)

  • Ben M.

This place is wonderful. Stop in and see Craig, the owner/dishwasher. You can get a cup of coffee in an experienced mug, have a talk with one of 3 "Flo's" and end up with a great breakfast. I recommend the haystack. Also, follow them on Facebook! Plus, if you get served coffee in the "hug mug", you'll leave with a squeeze. -Ben

Great, classic food. Diner atmosphere. Friendly service. It's a real hometown, comfort place, but even out-of-towners love it for that.

  • Leilani C.

Terrible food, and the menu was really basic with foods that should be next to impossible to screw up.

  • Dana J.

Fantastic! My go to for tasty comfort food!! Interior is nothing fancy but the food is always great! I've had the hangover breakfast sandwich, but my all time favorite is the peanut butter burger! Who would've thought? It's quite tasty. Service is usually pretty quick. Also they have pie shakes where they literally put a piece of pie in the blender with nice cream and whatever else and it's heavenly!! Highly recommend!

This is the second time i've had the pleasure of experiencing a divine breakfast fit for a god at River Oasis. River Oasis is a trendy, old school diner that creates a comfortable atmosphere and makes one feel right at home. Located right on the outskirts of the quaint strip of downtown Stillwater, I did not expect that our party of 8 would be immediately seated. The service was quick and efficient and our waitress checked up on us just enough and made sure we were kept very hydrated as she consistently refilled our water mugs. This morning I decided to broaden my horizons and try the quiche of the day rather than settling for an omelette which I've had before and it was amazing. After being informed that the quiche of the day was a spinach, tomato, mushroom and feta one, I was sold on the item. A side of fresh fruit and multigrain toast adorned my plate as well. The toast was perfectly buttered and toasted and the fruit was indeed very fresh. I was a little disappointed to realize that I only received strawberries and pineapple when I was told there would be banana slices aw well. The quiche was light, fluffy and perfectly warmed. The crust was flaky and delicious and the feta cheese was perfectly melted. The proportions of each ingredient balanced each other out amazingly. I was able to finish the entire slice! I overheard someone nearby ordering the quiche only to be informed that they had run out. Whew! I got lucky enough to receive one of the last pieces! I'm a firm believer that you can tell if a breakfast place is really good versus just average based on a cup of joe. My coffee this morning did not disappoint!!! It was the right amount of bitter, served at a drinkable temperature and nice and strong. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through Stillwater! You'll leave satisfied with a food baby for sure!

Well ethics place. The omelets ate huge and tasty. Enjoy!

  • Thomas M.

There aren't many (good) breakfast cafes in Stillwater, but at least there is the Oasis. I love the haystacks, I usually get mine with hollandaise on top. mmm!!!

    (4)
  • Taylor R.

Great place to go if you would like a side of harassment with your greasy breakfast. Gave a one star review on Facebook MONTHS after they received a load of bad publicity for adding a minimum wage fee and I got a pissy owner rudely commenting back that my experience was based on politics. Truly moronic businessman, attacking customers on Facebook. Will never visit the place again.

This is a must stop place for my family when we visit Minnesota. My in-laws are regulars here and we always hit the Oasis for breakfast at least a few times when we are up for the holidays. The owner is a real nice guy, and he turns out some quality food. The haystacks are awesome and large in size. The sandwiches are also top notch. The Hangover Sandwich is spectacular and it's a monster in size. You really don't need a side with it... just the sandwich will hold you over till lunch easily. They have good lunch and stuff as well, but I have only had the burger (shocking, I know). The burger is good for sure, but it's the breakfast that keeps us coming back. Needless to say, if you're in Stillwater and you are hungry, the Oasis is one of the best options in town.

  • The L.

First off, the food is very good. The chicken fried steak is some of the best I've had. BUT this is why I'm only giving them 3 stars. An order was up on the counter. As a waitress was picking it up to serve to some customers, the owner tried to be sneaky and grabbed a french fry or two off one of the plates and ate it. I couldn't believe what I saw! I don't know about the rest of you, but that's not cool.

Food still the same-o same-o cafe food. Spilt omelette with wife Got smart this time and had them substitute the cheese. Server made us spilt on our table rather than having the kitchen just put it on two plates. We had an infant and there was no tables where we could fit her car seat. The server was like, how about just putting it on the table? Uh Nooo. We headed for the large group table even though it was in the worst location in the restaurant. My seat was two feet from the bathroom door and my wife's two feet from the exterior door. Server was like, "you can sit there but if I get a group I will have to move you." I think if you want people to sit in a specific place don't have them seat themselves, and it is not like we really wanted the big ass table in the corner by the toilet, it was just the only option for us. So my wife was like, " we'll have to go somewhere else" and the lady sat us there but with attitude. Had to ask for waters etc.

  • Brad A.

I had an awful experience here. The food was bland with portions meant to please only non discriminating patrons that think even bad food is good if you get a lot of it. Service was ok. Management/ownership is the real problem here. I witnessed an extra charge on my bill as a result of the owner throwing a tantrum because he doesn't like to pay his employees a living wage. This is not the kind of business I care to support. This restaurant belongs in WI.

    (1)
  • Kim S.

Ridiculously delicious. Haystack was so good I could have eaten it again right then and there. Husband thought the same about his burger. We're staying in the area and agreed we must go back tomorrow. Owner is friendly and chatty. Floors were a little grimy, otherwise it was a fantastic experience.

  • Bobby B.

Food was ok. service was decent and then I saw my check and the $0.35 minimum wage fee added to my total. Does Michelle Bachman own this place? I'll never go back even if I'm starving to death!

  • Mike C.

Food is garbage. Avoid at all costs. Service was ok. Mgt is ignorant and rude to staff.

  • David L.

This place sucks. Food quality is as bad as the service. Won't be back nor will I recommend to ANYONE.

    (1)
  • Harvey L.

The food here tastes horrible. Dirt tastes better. Management is rude and are awful to their employees and guests. Avoid this place totally. People like this don't deserve to own a business.

    (1)
  • Clemon D.

Went to the restaurant the owner was verbally rude. The haystacks were marginal. Denny's quality food. Nothing special. The staff was slow and barely ever refilled my coffee. Had a baked caramel roll that was hard as if it had stayed out to long. The place is a bit small. I would recommend going anywhere else!

    (1)
  • Andrew M.

The hillbilly in me is ashamed to admit the "Chicken Fried Steak" here is one of the best I've ever had, And I've eaten them all across the country, delicious! I even ordered 2 extra for the long ride home.

If you want to avoid the weekend craziness and not get stuck in traffic in downtown Stillwater, just before you hit this, there is spot on the left to turn into. Plenty of parking, and you are immediately greeted by a really cool guy sitting at the counter. A lot of families are here, but you can have a quiet spot in the back if you prefer. I ordered an omelet, even though it seemed like a good burger joint, and I was thinking of ordering one, until I saw havarti cheese. I love that stuff, and it goes great in this. I was a little worried because the cheese is melted on top.The unusual way they fold it, it actually works. Let's not forget the great flavors of bacon, onion, and tomato inside. Give the man a cigar, they actually know how to butter toast here. Service from Nina was awesome. I may have read one page while I was waiting, they are super fast here. Noteworthy, the bathroom could actually be described as a water closet. Just a standard sink and a tall toilet. Everything you need. Don't let the glam of Stillwater keep you from making this cafe a destination.

Best coffee for 30 miles around. I asked and they said it was River Moon Coffee Co. a locally roasted brand. I think you can order it on their website. Awesome coffee.

I had driven by this diner a few hundred times easily on my way to Wisconsin, and never stopped until recently. Hidden well on the side of the St Croix bluffs, this is a wonderful gem of a diner that deserves to be tried on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Looking for huge pancakes? They have them. Looking for a great bowl of steel-cut Oats? They have them. Looking for great service? They will serve you a coffee while you wait in line along the wall. That's service. You will get full, and you won't empty your wallet. I kept looking at the wall of pictures of old-timers that obviously had spent a lot of their time, and money, here. I'd imagine pulling up in your pick-up with the boat on a trailer behind, or heading out of town to go hunting...and this would be the place to stop before, or after. Driving to Stillwater? You must stop here. I will be coming back again, and not driving past this place a few hundred times again. I will be stopping to get my fill.

Terrible!!! Never again. Their chicken fried steak tasted like it was fried in week old Burger King oil. The gravy was pasty.

  • Brett G.

Awesome menu and food was great. New waitress served French dressing while saying here is your Italian. Then when I ordered the country fried steak dinner I was served the country fried steak breakfast with eggs easy over and whole wheat toast. Funny, she never asked me how I wanted my eggs or I would have known there was a problem. I told her later, never even said sorry. But, I'd still go back, what I ate was very good.

Hubs and I spent the night in Stillwater and decided to have breakfast here before heading home. So glad we did! It was my second time stopping in for breakfast and both times were crazy delicious. It was slightly crowded on this visit and we waited a few minutes for a table. They ended up seating us at a table big enough for 6 but asked if we'd be willing to move should a smaller table open up. We said of course, and off we went. Hubby got the haystack and I got the special, a quiche, with hashbrowns and the cranberry toast. My only complaint about the entire visit is that a smaller table did open up, but instead of coming to ask us to move, they simply sent another group of people to our table to take it. There was some confusion and crowding but it ended up working out ok. Food was awesome and we left full and happy!

We went for our first visit a few nights ago. My husband had the hot beef sandwich, which he said was very good. Teenagers ordered peanut butter burger and chipotle burger. The chipotle burger was stacked high and son loved it. Peanut butter burger was good but son #2 was more impressed with fries. Chocolate shakes were thick and yummy. I would have given them 5 stars, but I ordered the dinner special and was told they "ran out." Really? At 5:00 on Friday night?

  • Eric J.

The food was below average. It's not the worse, but I definitely have had better. The table we sat at was dirty. We had to get the waitress to clean it for us. Definitely won't go back.

We ate here on Tuesday night. We had been to the Oasis before for breakfast but not for dinner. It was quite busy and we did have to wait to have our order taken which was a little long with young kids. The owner (I believe) was helping out and making small talk with customers which helped. The food is perfect diner food. I had a basic cheeseburger and it was delicious. I will definitely go back for more.

  • John R.

I've now had all three meals here. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all were very good. They have traditional foods, but also delicious new variations on old standby's. On weekend mornings the owner and his wife both work (likely all the time). He serves as the host and helps seat everyone that comes in the most effective way so there is rarely anyone standing waiting for a table. He rotates around, and will talk to just about every customer. Fantastic atmosphere, and management that truly cares which is hard to find!

Amazing burgers! Definitely go here if your hungover and starving like I was when I walked into this place. The food is awesome and the burgers are exceptional

I have passed this place many times and never thought to stop in. I'm glad I finally did! We ate here when staying at the Outing Lodge. I chose this place based on Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed. The place isn't very fancy, but the food was delicious with good sized portions and very reasonable prices! I had the new Parmesan Burger. I was told they are redoing their menu and this was a new item. Well I sure hope they keep it on! I want to go back and try their breakfast I read about.

Ate breakfast at the River Oasis just outside of Stillwater, MN. A very cozy, clean place with the feel of an old time cafe. Staff is friendly with coffee cup always full. Fresh baked carmel rolls had just come out of the oven. They were sensational. The yeast dough was soft and fluffy with not too sweet carmel and cinnamon dripping everywhere. If you get there before 9AM, they have some sweet deals on breakfast. Can't wait to return.

What a great surprise this place was! My sister moved to Stillwater about a year and a half ago and recently found it. On a Sunday night we sat a party of nine at 7pm and received the best service and some outstanding food! We did the whole gamut of food on the menu! My nephew started with a Strawberry Malt. It looked amazing. I had some cheese curds, which were lightly fried and were fantastic. Then we all ordered burgers. I had the Hangover which had an egg, hashbrowns, cheese and bacon on the burger, smothered in hollandaise sause. Wow! What a mess...that I gladly made because I couldn't get that in my mouth fast enough! My sister had the Peanut Butter Burger. Other than the PB, I don't know what else was on there but I tried it and loved it. She also had the sweet potato fries, crinkled up, sprinkled with cinnamon and just outstanding! Around the table others had the Prime burger with prime rib slices on the burger, among other choices. Not one lasted on the plate more than ten minutes...and there were no left-overs! Then there's the pie! I ordered the peanut butter french silk...OMG! Not too much PB, with a layer of a chocolate something or other with the most amazing HOMEMADE Whipped Cream. Seriously...best pie ever that wasn't made by My Ma! I tried the French Silk. Amazing. The Coconut Creme. Amazing. The Oatmeal. Amazing. The Dutch Apple. You guessed it...Amazing. I'm glad I live in Cincinnati for many reasons. But near the top of the list is because i would spend every meal at the ROC! Such creativity is typically reserved for Big Cities...but this is found in Stillwater. And you can't go wrong. Stop in. Have some pie. Enjoy life again.

I enjoy the local feel, the staff and the great breakfasts. Many memories at the the River Oasis with my grandparents and like the renovation looks great. If you like biscuits and sausage gravy - this is the place to be!

We stopped here for a late breakfast on a day trip to Stillwater; a staff member at a local boutique recommended it. We were seated quickly and the food was reasonably priced, which was a nice break from the tourist trap-y prices of other local restaurants. Expect basic diner fare and atmosphere. Our food was solid and filling. We ordered biscuits and gravy, a breakfast salad, avocado omelette, scrambled eggs with chili con carne, and pancakes. I can't say I was wowed by anything here, it was just ok.

Back after an absence of a couple years. River Oasis has spiffed up inside, and the menu is bigger. Bait shop next door is gone. I miss being able to tell my friends that we're gonna have breakfast at a diner/bait shop. We called ahead with a group of 17 hungry runners after a morning workout. They accommodated, and were really good sports about it. Our party ordered a wide variety of greasy spoon breakfasts: pancakes, haystacks (hash browns topped with 2 eggs and your choice of accouterments), French toast, you name it. French toast was the standout, thick and eggy. People who ordered the haystacks loved them. Good, crispy hash browns. The best part was the service: they hustled, cheerfully, and when it was all done they showed up with separate checks. Amazing!

After hearing that they have some of the best burgers in town, I decided I had to check this place out, unfortunately I never got to try their burgers! I love Brine's and am a regular customer there, but decided I needed a change. The service was very poor and the waitress unprofessional. The place was not that busy and after we were given our drinks she just disappeared. After about 10 minutes she reappeared and was helping other patrons that had just arrived. She then starting takes orders from other tables and ignored ours. After 15-20 minutes, enough was enough so we got up to pay for our drinks and leave. The same person that greeted us as we entered thought we were new customers. The workers there are just not professional and seem to spend more time talking than actually working and serving customers. Its unfortunate that I never got to try their burgers, but given the service, I have no interest in going back and will stick with Brine's $2 burger nights.

I love not only the food... I love the atmosphere (totally a 70's cafe?), the servers, and the owner! (I think the guy that walks around greeting people and making sure their food is great... Most likely the owner?) Anywho, I'd have to agree with the first review. It's a bunch of townies (mostly senior citizens), they kind of stare at you (especially if you're Asian haha) but the servers, and owner make you feel very welcomed. Don't let the cooks deceive you. (Younger tattooed guys) They can throw it down! The bread is bakery quality (the wheat is awesome!) Abundant menu... Order breakfast anytime... The owner walks around constantly while there, and checks in from time to time during your meal. It's located right along the St. Croix River. I just recently went here this past weekend. The owner gave me a mug of coffee, and the mug said, "BIG HUG MUG". He said before my boyfriend and I leave, we must give eachother a huge hug! We laughed. After we paid, he sure made us do it. Right as we stood up after paying, he called us out from the kitchen and made us do it! :) A great place to go. Definitely my favorite breakfast/dinner joint. Some good ol' American soul food! :)

If you're looking for a great traditional diner-style breakfast, this is your place. Very good coffee, great hashbrowns, large menu, friendly service, neat location... Loved it. The people here make the place. Great food, but the friendly staff make me want to come back at least as much -- if not more so -- than the stellar Oasis haystack (try it with hollandaise sauce added!).
