Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Went in on a Tuesday for their Margarita special. For $5 you get a pretty good size marg but it was served in a beer mug! No margarita glasses? I ordered the chicken taquitos and I wasn't impressed. No flavor, in fact they tasted a lot like a chicken nugget from McDonalds. I'd say this is more like a sports bar that serves Mexican food. I'd stop in again for a drink but probably wouldn't get food.

My family and I have been going to this location for several years. The food is always good, but the service is terrible. The last three times we have been here our orders have been incorrect and the food takes a very long time to one to the tables. To make it worse, we had bugs flying around our table tonight. GROSS!

Stopped in for a fundraiser. Waited at hostess stand for a table - no-one around so we sat at the bar instead. $5.00 240z. dark Dos Equis on tap all day long so that's the only thing I had. Atmosphere drab. Salsa did not look homemade - more like Pace but I can't confirm as I only had a beer. Not again unless I get invited back to the fundraiser.

We just left. Walked in and waited 5 minutes before being greeted, even though it was empty. Ordered drinks and queso. Waiter shoots a snot rocket on to his upper lip and wipes it away. Hygienic! Waiter brings my drink, but not my husband's. Not even a water. We wait another 5 minutes with still no chips, no water, just a margarita I am 90% has snot in it. About 15 minutes into this ordeal, a large party shows up and is immediately seated and given chips, salsa, and water. We give up on waiting for our other drink and appetizers. We leave.

This should be called "Wisconsin Mexican" because your menu options are very limited if you don't want a plate smothered in pale yellow cheese sauce, or with something fried on it. Forget it if you're a vegan. I ended up ordering Shrimp Tacos; got two Ortega hard shells like what you find at the grocery store with three shrimp in them each and a pile of shredded iceberg lettuce. This for 8.49. If you want some rice and beans with your tacos that will run you almost another four bucks - 3.49. The shrimp a little overdone. Medicore food at a dismal value.

The food is okay, kinda what you expect from a Mexican restaurant in Minnesota. The service is also okay, the servers often seem annoyed when you ask for something. Cheese dip is good and margaritas are good. Nothing special but not horrible either.

Our family stopped for dinner after a movie and were very disappointed. I ordered soft shell tacos, which came with a few pieces of meat in 2 flour tortillas. There were small cups with cheese and salsa all sitting on a bed of lettuce for $7.49-- beans and rice were $3.50 extra. So, if you had 2 tacos with beans and rice it would be $11.00! Not even really good tacos! It was very noisy and our service was just OK. We have been to Acapulco several times over the last few years, but they have changed, not for the better. We will not return.

I'm not sure why this place has such poor reviews! I like Acapulco just fine. I've been during lunch and after work for dinner and I've never had a problem with the service. Their food is fine to me. I really, really wish they made their rice without chicken stock. They aren't very vegetarian/vegan-friendly on the surface. Their refried beans are vegetarian though and so, so delicious. I emailed the restaurant about vegan options and although the menu isn't explicit about what is vegetarian/vegan, the person who wrote me back was very kind and helpful. There are options, you just have to ask a bit.

Hmmmm. Not really sure what to write. Our waitress was friendly, but if I'm being completely honest, she was terrible. She got my order wrong. I had to ask for more to drink which is something I shouldn't have to do. She checked on us maybe once during our entire visit and just seemed like doing the bare minimum. Now to the food. The salsa was okay, but not great (holy cilantro!). My main dish had their "special cheese" which was basically just white Velveeta and there wasn't anything "special" about it. Overall the food was rather disappointing. I mean, it was an okay place but I probably wouldn't go back again.
(2)Jens M.
Two stars for the Chori queso and the diet coke! I would've given 5 for the chori queso but the rest of the food just brought the score down! Second time here, first time, was horrible but I gave it another try to be fair. Well I won't be coming a third, that's for sure!!!!

Subpar the bartender was ok I asked for my drink not to have salt I got salt. Food was ok better then the service.
(3)Becky O.
Have been here several times in the last 10 years. The food has gone from being tasty and inexpensive to overpriced and over fried and salty. My favorite thing to order was the Sopa de Polla, which was always full of veggies and seasoned just right, to a big glob of chicken and soggy rice with a small bit of overly salty broth. The prices have gone up significantly as well and the fountain in the middle of the restaurant has been broken for several years. Service was fine.

The wait staff were very nice. That's about it for the good part of this restaurant. As someone who grew up on frequent trips to Mexican/tex mex restaurants, I know it's hard to mess up Mexican food. Unfortunately, this restaurant has managed to create pretty awful food. I hope that someday they learn to pay as much attention to having a good kitchen as they have to the good wait staff.

This place is absolutely awful from the food right down to the service (or lack thereof). Our last three experiences (months apart) were less than favorable... but this last time was definitely the last straw. Our waiter was off in some other world the entire time. We waited forever for our orders to be taken. Once the food arrived, it wasn't what we ordered and it had to be sent back. The food we got the second time around was correct... but very poorly prepared. It had been slapped together in an extreme rush and was hardly cooked. We dealt with it. The waiter never came back after that... our drinks ran bone dry and after a while, we were just desperate to get the check and leave. My girlfriend got this wide-eyed look on her face and told me to look out towards the outside area. Our waiter was standing there having a beer with some guy. That's when both of us got extremely irritated. I literally had to go ask the bartender for the check because none of the waitstaff was to be seen. He sighed, seemed irritated (I couldn't tell if it was directed at me or the situation) and went to go ring us out. There were no apologies or acknowledgements. We both left still hungry and quite irritated. We ended up sending an e-mail to their customer service department, giving them details of everything that happened including the waiters' beer break. They responded and apologized then said that we would be receiving a gift card. We've still yet to receive this card and I doubt we ever will. Honestly, even a gift card wouldn't be incentive enough to return to this place, but it's the fact that it was promised and never followed through that bothers me. Poor business practices. Don't bother with this place.

This place stands as an ode to chain style tex mex, though a little less of both. Cheese and salt lovers rejoice! You will be intoxicated with the gratuitous use of your heart warming (and heart damaging but yummy) ingredients. Hey I can eat, but I could not finish my food. Service was solid, especially because we had a very big group. I should mention I am visiting from CO, so my Mexican food expectations are pretty solid. I am not too sure of how Tex-Mex is done in Minneapolis.
(2)Jana H.
I have been to Acapulco a couple of times and I have never been impressed. The rice served with the food is often very dry; the food is very heavy, rich and greasy. The chips and salsa served prior to your entrees being delivered have no flavor. In fact the salsa almost seems watered down in some way, shape or form. The food presentation is awful and not appealing once your plate is put in front of you. The dish I ordered said it came with guacamole, however when I received the entrée, there was literally about a half of a spoonful on the plate. This place is just okay. I am guessing it's their bar area that somehow helps them to stay afloat and make ends meet. The service is just fine, but the food is not so great! I would personally rather grab a frozen burrito form a gas station than eat at this restaurant.

With all the choices in Stillwater, go elsewhere. The food is medicore at best and the service is abismal. Our server rolled his eyes when we said we were waiting for one more person and then acted like we were really putting him out by taking our food order. He never came back to check on us, see if we wanted drinks, etc. He dropped off the check and was never seen again. One person went to the ATM to get cash so we wouldn't have to try and run credit cards and one even tried to go to the bartender for change, but there was no one behind the bar!! We got there a little before noon and it was relatively empty so it wasn't as if anyone was being pulled in too many directions. I've been here once before and wasn't impressed - I won't make the same mistake again.
(1)Jim C.
I've eaten lunch here several times w/ work and find I dread it each time. It's not that it's bad, it's just so consistently mediocre. The chips, while complimentary, are industrial in texture and taste (even thought they appear to be made there). The entrees all provide the same bland /tortilla/cheese/bean/rice/meatingredients in varying permutations. If forced to choose between this and the White Castle across the street, I'd definitely opt for Chateau Blanc.
(2)Thomas M.
CHEAP draft beer, great Tex-Mex food. This isn't authentic Mexican food, it's Tex-Mex, it is what it is and it's damn good!!!!
(4)Chuck H.
This place always looks lively from afar, so we thought we'd give it a try. As we entered, we realized that it was lively with college aged happy hour patrons. The dining room was nearly empty - and for good reason. The food was horribly midwesternized. I am willing to bet that the sauce that my enchilada was smothered in was melted Velveeta. My beer was fine, though.

Stopped here yesterday afternoon with some friends for a couple of hours before a wedding reception. Sat on the patio to enjoy some good conversation, cold beer and fortunately had one of the best servers we've ever encountered! She was great about making sure we never had an empty drink. At one point she forgot one of the guys bottle of Sam Adams. She brings it out to him and says that she totally forgot about it so it was on her!! We already thought she was a great server and were only expecting an apology, not a free drink. Bonus points for her!! We didn't order meals since we would be having dinner at the reception. However for four people she brought us two baskets of chips and a bottle of salsa and bowl for each of us. We didn't need all that but it was a great gesture as some servers can be pretty stingy with the complimentary food. The only bummer is that our server didn't have a name tag on and we forgot to look at the receipt. She was wearing big silver heart earrings. So if you go here and your server has on those earrings, lucky you because you'll be getting great and attentive service!

Don't do it. Bad food.
(1)Alex W.
They've always been fast and accurate with our orders. Sometimes they take a while to bring out the order, but it seems to be hit or miss in that department. The chips are amazing and the prices are fair, so in short I really like this place.
(4)Joel M.
Cheap Ice Cold Leine's, CHEAP awesome tacos.. Now if only the ignorant kids that hang out there would pull their pants up I could say this is my favorite happy place..
(5)C N.
Bad service, poor TV placement, marginal food. I can't believe these guys are still in business. I joined up with a table of friends and sat there for more than 45 minutes and NOT ONE SERVER came to check on us/me. I've had horrible service here on multiple occasions. The atmosphere is depressing too, what a waste of space. The one big TV they have they don't even have HD for...
(1)Mick S.
Cheap beer (cheap price for low grade beer). Food is O.K. Nothing really stands out for me at this place, typically run of the mill american-mexican.
(3)Sarah B.
Because I have friends from Stillwater I've visited Acapulco several times, and even though maybe I'd personally give it a three, the fact that everyone I've ever been there with would give it a "five plus" brings it to a four in my mind. :) If you don't feel like tacos and similar things, their fajita salad is really good (I'm not sure it's any healthier than anything else on the menu though...). If you're in a taco mood, find out if they are still doing 50 cent tacos on Mondays - that used to be their best deal by far!
