I live in Frogtown, and I can't get ENOUGH of this place. The curry pad thai is the most deliciously spicy noodle dish I've ever had. The only thing that would make this place a one-stop shop for a night of takeout is if they had fresh spring rolls...but I can forgive them for that. :D I've brought many people with me to try the curry pad thai, and every one has loved it!

They were good, quick, friendly, a little run down. And now they're gone. The end.

Outstanding! The Curry Pad Thai is the absolute best you will find in the city. Nothing I have ever had beats it! All of their curry dishes are splendid and their crispy fried spring rolls are delicious! I've also had their Yellow Curry (with chicken) it is extremely good. Order Mild if you can't handle too much spice. I order mine Medium and it's actually quite hot! Be warned. This is real true Thai food. The Thai Iced Tea, pre-sweetened, is the best thing to calm down your mouth on fire. Love that the owner/chef Jai came out to meet and greet us. What a special treat! Bangkok Cuisine is my number one place for Thai food!

This place is amazing! My wife and I had a $30 voucher here and it is on University Ave. right by one of the new light rail stations. Right at the start of Frog town. It is pretty small, but probably seats about 40 or fifty. We were seated at a table next to a group of ladies that looked to be enjoying their meals and we opted for some tea to start us off. Jasmine tea. Good stuff. The lady that was serving everyone seemed to be about 17, but she was fantastic. She took our order, Bangkok seafood, medium spice, and Tom Yum with Shrimp soup. (mild). We stuck with water, because there was no beer on the menu. A couple of nice lagers would have been nice though. We read a lot of reviews and when I ordered medium, I knew it would be hot. I am glad I did, because their medium was making me sweat and tear up. (And I love spicy food) My wife's soup was just the right amount of spice for her, I would have been mad at myself if I told her to get medium instead of mild when she asked "What do you think I should get for spicy?" As it turned out, the bowl of soup was gigantic with cellophane noodles, lots of shrimp, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, I think, and the lemon grass flavoring mixed with the slight tinge of spiciness, made it one of the best soups ever. It was just a real pleasure having all the different flavors going on at one time with a bay leaf or two to make it that much better. Really, an amazing dish. My Bangkok Seafood had some steamed rice on the side with tons of big shrimp, scallops, brown sauce, and imitation crab. So amazing! The spiciness was hurting yet loving at the same time. It was like a bit of happy cool from the seafood, with the spiciness of the Thai chili flavor. AMAZING! I can't imagine what "Spicy" or "Super Spicy" would be. The vegetables mixed with the meat. Just darn beautiful. We took home half the soup for leftovers, and I told my wife. This was the best meal in a long time. Great service, food, and atmosphere!

Went here because I had to use my free Groupon up! I'm glad that I did too! I love love love Thai food and will always try out a new place if it looks like it has good reviews. This is a very tricky spot to find, but you will be delighted when you do! There is a parking lot behind it which was nearly empty but it was 8pm in St. Paul on a Thursday so there isn't going to be much action anyways.. It is simple, but adorable inside, there is matching table clothes and window coverings and some amazing metal flower fixtures that I almost ended up asking if I could take so I could decorate my apartment! I'm not that forward yet, so I just stared at them instead of paying attention to my dining partner in crime. The staff was incredibly friendly and cheery and quick. I was put at ease instantly. Instead of our normal starter of spring rolls (I know, what?? (They were fried and I prefer only fresh)) We got the Crab Rangoon, which I haven't had forever and they turned out to be delicious! They weren't too greasy and the crunch was perfect. The plum sauce was what really sold these though! I loved it. For our entrees we got the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp based off a review here and the Peanut Curry with Tofu. Nic and I both loved the Peanut Curry, I'm sure it cannot be healthy at all because it is like peanut sauce with coconut milk, but it was interesting as I had never seen it, the tofu had a perfect crust on it, it tasted fresh, and come on anything with that much fat has to be amazing! The Drunken Noodles were good, I thought that the fish sauce was a little too pungent and the dish seemed a little too greasy for me. I did love that the dish was with wide rice noodles (Like egg noodles!) because I haven't seen such wide noodles before. This meal was a little better the next day after the flavors had melded, but to be honest we ate it after a few drinks. Nic however, really liked it initially. So to each there own I suppose! I will be back to try some other items out because they are interesting. The service here is amazing though. Everyone that walked in that worked there greeted us and asked us about our food. GREAT!

Came here with a Groupon and finally found it after driving up and down University for awhile but it was worth it! Cute, inviting place, which has a pretty large menu. Ci had her Pho, which she loves everywhere, and I went with a peanut curry dish which was delish! Ci enjoyed her Pho very much as well..She didn't care for the meatballs. but other than that, she slurped up all her Pho. We had spring rolls for appetizers which were good as well. We will be back to try more and you should too!

Best Thai in the TC!! I've been here about 20 times, and the food is always off the chain. I highly recommend: pad thais, red/green/massaman/peanut curry, crispy rolls, peanut curry noodle... I've never been disappointed with the food. The service is slow and you should not expect to get all of your dishes at the same time, but this place is definitely worth the wait. Jai, the owner, cooks every dish that comes out of the kitchen and truly is a master.

I love this place. Both the wife and husband are so sweet and made an effort to ask me if I liked the food several times. But the best part was the amazing food. I got the penang curry and it was full of spice with the sweet creaminess of coconut. One of the best I've ever had. The chicken in it was perfectly moist and the veggies were fresh and perfectly complement the curry. The pad thai was also fresh and not dripping in seasoning. I got the banana rice cake and I loved it. It was obviously fresh and the banana inside was sweet- if you love authentic banana cakes in sweet rice, this is definitely one of the best I've tried. Overall, I will definitely be back soon. With all the construction from the metrotransit, they were still really busy at lunch and I can see why. It was cheap and delicious. I'm drooling just thinking about it...

I LOVE this place. This is my go-to take out spot. The first couple of times I ordered from here they toned down the spice a bit, but now they know I want it ACTUAL medium. I love supporting a family business and have never had a bad meal from here. Their peanut curry noodles and drunken noodles are delicious, as is their peanut curry entree and tom yum soup. It's great food, big portions, and more than reasonable prices. I'll be back (probably twice this week)!

This place is a GEM! Tucked away on the south side of University Avenue, this place is almost hidden from the main drag. My husband & I visited with a Living Social coupon during lunch on a weekday. Amazing food & snappy service with a smile. Try the Thai Basil Rice & Pad Thai. The entrees are huge & can easily feed two. It's a small space with a lot of character & authentic food. Give it a try! You're gonna love it!

Service: good Variety of food: good Ambiance: average Quality/Price: decent I ordered the drunken noodles and they were greasy/oily and salty for my taste. Spice was good though. My husband ordered the red curry and he said it was flavorful, but wished there was more variety in the dish. Again, good spice for his liking. We were using a Groupon. We're always open to trying new Thai restaurants, as we're in the search of a new favorite since our old went downhill. Unfortunately, this one didn't make the cut. Nice presentation and clean.

Curry pad Thai is so good here! I don't even like pad Thai, but the curry flavor is so tasty and mellow, it's just right. The medium spicy (2) has plenty of kick. We've been trying a lot of Thai places in the Twin Cities, and this is my favorite so far.

got the 3rd level of spice (out of 4 levels) and almost couldn't eat it. First time that has ever happened to me. Very impressed. Ordered one of the pad thais with tofu (not the normal one and not the curry one... forgot the name), bf got some kind of curry (peanut?) with chicken. Both were really really good and were enough for 2+ meals for each of us. $7-12 per entree. Quality/portions are also better here than they are at the "trendier" thai places in the tc. I've been to places in uptown that charge almost twice as much for basically the same thing, but slightly less flavorful. FYI there's a groupon deal out there that might still be available. Will definitely be back even w/o groupon. Also there are a lot of cool looking, prob family owned businesses in this neighborhood, like an asian bakery right behind bangkok, a pho place across the street, etc. Glad the groupon introduced me to this part of town.

GREAT FOOD! RECOMMENDED Fried rice is off the hook! not your generic fried rice, the eggs were perfectly done and the beef was tender, not dry, and flavorful!! If you can handle it, try the spicy version, tastes even better. Pho is great! Extremely tender lean cuts of thick premium beef that melts in your mouth! not your cheap and chewy beef like most pho joints, bits of crispy fried pork and chicken in a savory broth!! Tastes so good you won't need to use any of the condiments. High end ingredients! high quality pho, way better than what you can find at your local Thai restaurant. *Highly recommend the Fried Tilapia in Curry sauce, BEST DISH I have ever had!* I have had many variations of the fried tilapia and walley over sauce in many "reputed" restaurants, none compare to this dish! Not Village Wok, not Peking, and no, Hong Kong Noodles don't come close. Meet the Chef, Jai. Chef Jai is a good guy! Meet and greet with him if you get the chance. GREAT PLACE TO DINE!!!!!! I came here for a meeting, and no, I did not have groupon (highly recommend groupon) for this!!! I have always avoided this place, generalizing it with the rest of the disappointments on University Ave. However, I was wrong. This place is a hole in the wall.

Recommended, but with caveats: The Good: The entrees so far have been excellent. They use lemon on the Pad Thai, rather than the lime I'm used to, but it still tastes great. The potato and chicken curry (can't remember the name, but it's not the masaman) is soooo good. Midwestern palates beware that the "hot" scale is Thai hot, so if you're sensitive, start with mild. The chicken satay appetizer was plentiful. The Bad: The fried tofu appetizer (I thought it might be spiced or seasoned, but it is plain with a dipping sauce, and it's a lot of work to get the sauce to absorb -- and just not that great). The Ugly: They *had* the BEST Thai Iced Tea I've ever had -- perfectly balanced tea and sweetness, not too thick, no need to add water, just delightful. But, at my August 2013 visit, it tasted off - a bit sour and the color wasn't quite right. I mentioned it to the waitress and asked if it was a temporary or permanent change (hoping that they maybe had just run out of the regular stuff), and she said it was permanent. Although I'm not sure she really knew, as her follow-up didn't make sense (she said, "It may taste different because it already has tea in it." ???). In any case, I'll have to ask about the recipe before I order that again. My dinner companion thought it tasted so bad, he didn't even finish his. The disappointment itself is worth a star. Final analysis: I'll definitely go back and hope they revert their Thai Iced Tea recipe. It's a small, friendly, family-run-type place. Pricing seems reasonable. We have not had to wait long for food, even when they were busy. Watch the hours, as they seem like they have changed a couple of times (lots of businesses on University Ave have done this with the light rail construction).

WOW! I would never have guessed from the outside of the building how great this restaurant was, but it was AMAZING. Will definitely be back. The interior is really tastefully decorated, with some beautiful yellow-gold and orange tones that felt warm and inviting even though the weather outside was cold and dark. The service, too, was great - our waitress saved us from ourselves by recommending a slightly less hot level of spice than we initially intended to order! The food? Oh...right...IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! I ordered the curry pad Thai - delicious - and my partner ordered the the gang ped with scallops - also incredible. We can't wait to dive into the leftovers! Be aware of your tolerance for spicy food - there were menu items that didn't have the little "spicy" icon next to them that would probably be fine for those who are wary of hot food. Both of our orders had the spicy icon and after the waitress talked us down from ordering "medium" we went with "mild plus." It cleared the sinuses - my partner said it was perfect because he could feel his face tingle but he wasn't sweating. We love spicy food, but it's a good thing we hadn't gone with "medium." As a note to vegetarians, it looked like almost everything on the menu could be ordered as a veggie dish instead of meat - definitely give it a try!

I have been here twice now and although I prefer Bangkok Thai Deli (BTD) for more authentic Thai food, Bangkok Cuisine (BC) has a better Pad Thai. When I am looking for simple Thai food, like Pad Thai, I come here. Although, the Pad Thai is not the same as other restaurants. It is lighter, very moist but not soupy, and it is not fried in the pan to death. They also serve it with a lemon wedge. I prefer lime typically but the lemon works with the lightness of this particular Pad Thai unlike most other Pad Thai dishes. I don't eat in because the restaurant is very small and it is dirty, but I have come to understand over the years that it comes with the territory. For example I don't go to Mickey's Diner expecting polished floors and no crumbs. I go there knowing it is a hole in the wall and I expect the atmosphere. Besides the Pad Thai another staple I get here is the Thai Chicken Wings. They are smothered in a peanut sauce. Rich, saucy, and peanutty. The other reason why I opt for BC over BTD is the spice level. I can handle the heat, but I get medium. When I ask for medium at BTD there is barely any heat. Medium is the perfect amount of heat if you like it spicy but not unbearably spicy. So, yes, I understand why people would not enjoy this restaurant. The key is to find what each restaurant excels at: i.e. drinks, appetizers, main dishes, etc., and avoid the things they are missing. So I don't eat in and I stick to what I know they do well. The fried vegetarian egg rolls and curries are next on my list of things to try at this restaurant.
