I've only been here a couple of times, because it's not that close to my house. It's a pretty standard independent sandwich shop, with one caveat. Fantastic pickles. Pickled cucumbers, pickled asparagus, pickled pickles. I grabbed my sandwich to go and enjoyed the best that it has to offer at home. It's slightly pricey, and it seems like the menu tries to do a bit too much. Is it a sandwich shop or a bakery? That being said, it's a nice little independent shop with friendly staff, very good quality food, and awesome, awesome pickles.

If you're in the area and want a sandwich, you should definitely come here. The bread is reallly fresh and the house sauce makes the sandwiches taste even better. But I wouldn't recommend people to come here from across town.

Locally owned and operated sub shop. The fact that it is not a chain always makes it better. The prices are a little higher, but a great place to stop by for a quick lunch.

I'm surprised I haven't done a review on this yet...we are regulars... and come here any time one of us suggests Subway or Jimmy Johns...this is a great little lunch spot. it's probably more of a 3.5, but this place is close and I like supporting local business. They have great sandwiches and soup, and the owner has always been very nice...and even once brought over a high chair for me so I didn't have to wrangle the chair and a toddler. Score a half point right there. One thing I would change is having "real" silverware/bowls instead of styrofoam/plastic...I hate that. I almost want to bring my own spoon in my purse! We really like the potato soup...the Rueben is nothing like Cecil's, but it's not bad. So much better than any of the franchise city options nearby. Real food and good prices. I would like to try some of the jams/pickles/etc. Not sure why anyone would say the service is bad...between my husband and I we probably come about 1x a month...and it's always the same person (the owner I think) and shes always friendly and efficient. That's my 2 cents...

His gets 5 stars for being what it is. A great sandwich shop. The bread was amazingly fresh, plenty of meat.. It was really good. I will be back to try everything else.

Love at first sight! A wonderful collection of local jellies, jams, honey and baked goods. We tried the Banh Mi and spicy Italian sandwiches both excellent! The cheese and Herb bread was awesome so soft and delicious. We also tried their flourless chocolate cake... Sinful :)

I heard about this place when I visited their booth at the Shoreview Farmers Market one year. I like their homemade pasta and raw honey from Shoreview. So I decided to make a trip out there. It was a late lunch on Friday, around 2:30 pm and it was pretty quite. There were a few tables occupied by a couple of ladies and a larger group of ladies. The dishing tables are pretty tight and you can tell they are trying to squeeze in as many tables as they can. I made a trip to Marianne's because I needed to get some honey since the Farmers Market is not open yet. They have a large selection of jams, baked goods, honey, and other goodies. I didn't have lunch yet so I decided to grab something to eat. I wasn't sure what I wanted but saw the Chow Chow salad on the menu specials. I asked who I presume is Marianne (she's really nice) what it was. She explained it was a chicken salad mixed with a tangy coleslaw and was a bit spicy. Thought it sounded interesting so tried it. It came with a small side of beet and quinoa salad. The Chow Chow salad was served on a bun and it was quite delicious. However it was not at all spicy as she suggested, but it was tasty nonetheless. The beer and quinoa salad was too sour, I'm guessing too much vinegar. This taste of this salad probably need some tweaking but I appreciate that they were trying something different. However I didn't think the $9 price tag for the sandwich and salad was worth it. Still I think I may go back and try other sandwiches or soups. It's nice to have a non-chain restaurant like this one in the Shoreview area.

We came at 1pm after they had "been slammed" which meant they didn't have ingredients for the two sandwiches I was hoping to try. Had the "philly" which was lacking cheese but okay. No kids selections and when I asked about if the could make a grilled cheese the cook snapped i would never make a grilled cheese. My wife liked her California but when the highlight is the bun.... Seems like a really cute shop one that if I lived in the area would be a place I would want to go to lots but since we don't live near not sure I will return.

This is a great place for an informal business meeting. It's very quiet. Word is in the summer they have organic goods from their farm. I was lured in by a cold, Italian sub. It was pretty standard and they use bottled dressing. But I will definitely try other things, like a hot sandwich. My friend raved about it. I got the Italian meatball soup in a tomato sauce, that was average. They carry the 'Dirty' brand of kettle chips. I bought a sampler of a bourbon maple syrup. I had to pick up a plastic bag of Russian Tea cakes. Old habits. Very friendly owners.

This is the kind of business we should be supporting- run by a local owner! They support local farmers markets and therefore more sustainable agriculture; their food is fantastic; and the service is even better. Stop in today- you will be pleasantly surprised! By the way, it's awfully interesting how (1) the comments are coming from people who live FAR AWAY from Shoreview and are unlikely to have ever actually been there and (2) there seems to be ONE PERSON that creates reviews saying the same exact thing. Don't let one ignorant, rude person color your view of a fantastic place!

Tired after our Holidays, a friend and I decided to give the place a try after hearing they had good soups/sandwiches. Hmmmmmmmm, I had a "Rachel" with a cup of tomato basil, friend just had the same soup. It's hard to explain but the soup tasted strongly of tomato paste or something, it was not creamy nor was there any basil flavor, just a strong sharp taste. My "Rachel" sandwich had little flavor as well. Thinly shaved turkey with some canned sauerkraut and no taste of dressing that I could determine on a dark bun that didn't have much taste to it either. Pleasant lady behind the counter (Marianne, I think). They have lots of cookies, other baked things for sale. It's TINY (seats about 25) at tiny tables very close together. The pop machine is very LOUD. The fellow who brought our food to the table seemed distant and cool but later brought us each two Russian Tea Cake cookies to make up for the fact that I hadn't realized the sandwich came on dark bread which I'm not supposed to eat. (My fault for not checking.) I love to support the local places but it's not likely I'll return as the Scandinavian Cafe bakery is much closer to me and has excellent food!!

I work in Arden Hills and have grown tired of the crappy food everywhere. Because of my disappointment with the local fare, I decided I needed to find something, anything that was not a Subway, a Chioptle or McDicks. Enter Marianne's Kitchen. It is seriously a 30 second drive from my work. It gets one star for that alone. It gives me a good reason to walk somewhere after sitting at my desk for 40 hours a week getting fat. I got their daily special: a hot pastrami & pepper-jack sandwich with a side of sour cream dill potato salad. The sandwich was okay. It really only had thick slices of meat and melted cheese on it, and it was served on a wheat bun that had been pressed in a panini grill. I felt like I could have made it at home, not that I ever would. It would have been better on some sort of rye bread with a tasty spicy mayo. But, beggars can't be chooser. The potato salad was just okay, too. It needed some pepper, and was a bit too sour-cream-tasting to me. I paid $8.50 before tip. Not the cheapest place. I could have gone to subway and gotten twice the amount of sandwich for half the price. But I ate all of my food. So at least there is that, right? I will go again, because I desperately want this place to not suck. Their canned pickled beets intrigue me, so I'll buy some. They had a dried pumpkin chowder mix that I want to try too, so next time I'm there I'll grab that. And, I'll try a different sandwich and hope that it's more than mediocre the second time around.

This place has been on my list awhile after I noticed that flurry of activity back in October. Today I went in for a couple of sandwiches to go. It wasn't very busy when I got there (about 5). The place looks very folksy with all manner of jelly, sauces, and mixes for sale. The counter had a nicely made up menu above as well as a board with a couple of specials. From the staff's recommendation I selected the turkey special for my wife and an Italian for me. The turkey special was awesome. It had nice thick slices of turkey on a cranberry walnut bread. The sweetness of the bread was a surprisingly good complement to the turkey. What a nice sandwich. My Italian was a nice edition of a salami and pepper style hoagie you can get at many shops. A tad on the oily side, but still quite nice. The people there were friendly even though it took me a bit of time to order. The sandwich quality is definitely a cut (or 2) above the Quiznos/JimmyJohns/WichWich style places while having a competitive price.

The Highlights: This little place is really close to my workplace and serves as a good lunch alternative to the usual Lee Ann Chin, Chipotle, etc. Their service is quick and all of the food that I've had there tastes homemade - for better or worse. When you get food there, it truly does feel like you are supporting a real local business. The Run-Down: Marianne's offers some pretty good, albeit simple, sandwiches, salads, wraps, soups, and breakfast. I have never had breakfast, but in my two trips there, I have had the Bacon Club sandwich (No tomato or mayo and add avocado), a Caesar salad, and the "Dirty" All Natural Sweet Potato Chips. Each time, the Bacon Club has been the highlight. Plenty of Turkey, Ham, and Bacon with good chopped romaine lettuce. The portion of meat is a little more than you would find and Jimmy John's and a lot more than Subway. The bacon has an amazing maple flavor that really shines through and delivers a great sweet hint to the otherwise savory sandwich. The bread is a clearly homemade (or the like) wheat roll. Everything pairs together nicely for what feels like a relatively healthy sandwich. The Caesar Salad I had was just a side, so very basic with chopped romaine, Parmesan, and dressing. It was better than most fast-food salads I've had, and the lettuce tastes fresh, but I'm not going to write a letter home to my folks in Ohio about it. If you swing by here and get a sandwich, I really recommend the "Dirty" Sweet Potato Chips. A great sweet potato flavor with a little little salt and a good crunch. Worth trying at least once - especially if you are a sweet potato fan like myself. While I have never purchased any, one of the things that gives this place its old-timey down-home feel is the various pickled veggies and jellies and jams. There are jars of different flavors everywhere! If I liked pickles or pickled things, this place would be my jam. So if that describes you, this place will probably be your jam. Speaking of jam, they have several flavors from "typical" to "As-Exotic-As-Jam-Can-Be" - if I ever need to switch up my jelly/jam routine, this is my go-to spot. When the owner is there, she is always kind, but other than that, the service leaves something to be desired. In a place like this, I would prefer to have a chat about local-happenings, etc., but the service tends to be more on-par with chain sub places - order, get your food, get out. Not bad service, just not outstanding. Marianne's is a pretty basic, down-home, local business. Definitely worth your support and worth trying out at lunchtime at least once, but don't expect to have the meal of your lifetime.

**Had to change the language as Marianne's Flagged my review** Awful awful AWFUL WOEFUL LITTLE DUMP. I don't know what it is about this place, but it looks like a cute lil ma' and pa' sandwich shop until the sniveling beotch working there gets to lecturing you on how I should be able to understand the menu, and that my questions were simple. Like really hun? I am literally paying your paycheck and you call me simple. $#^@ you and the horse you rode in on sweetie. I then took a bite of my food, which honestly was no better than Jimmy Johns. I feel like they purposefully did a crap job on prep because I was "simple." The consistency of the food is,... well it's terrible. The three times I have been there (and ordered the same thing) it was wholly different each time. I can understand slight differences if they have different preparers, but not complete differences. Is there no standards training?! Wait, who am I kidding, they didn't even train their employees not to be complete ass-hats. Furthermore I would agree with Deanna on this one... I worked in the service industry for MANY years... and I know what a pain some customers can be, but I neatly stacked everything and even napkin'd off my table so it didn't look like a disaster, and was basically lectured on cleanliness. I will NEVER come back here, and I am telling my friends and family that they shouldn't either. Oh, and I am flagging all reviews on this site that are five stars, 1 review by a person without a picture. It is obviously an employee/manager/owner trying to bring up their rating. Sorry all you folks from Illinois and Missouri that somehow know all about Shoreview MN but don't review anything in your own town, I am flagging your shit. Especially if you didn't even bother to come up with something creative and only used your initials... Like "M.P." Pretty sure your first name is MARIANNE. Newsflash for you Marianne's, maybe you should actually give a crap about your customers and you could retain some of the ones that mistakenly come in there. If I could give you no stars, I would. At this point, it might just be better if you burn the place down and collect the insurance, because unless you do a quick 180 you are never going to make it in this economy.

I really dig this adorable little spot. When I'm working out in the suburbs, I'd much rather go someplace locally owned than some behemoth sandwich conglomerate like says Jimmy John's. And this place fits the bill nicely. Not only is the ambiance really cute inside, (it will remind you of a store your Grandmother would have opened in her hayday) but they have great sandwiches, wraps, and daily specials as well. Like your Grandmother, this place also has various canned food stuffs. If I lived closer I would visit here frequently. The employees are very friendly as well, the parking is convenient, and they are pretty fast too.

I've been watching the back and forth reviews on this place so I just had to go see for myself. Small, locally owned, neat and clean little sandwich shop. The girl at the counter was a bit curt with the elderly gentleman ahead of me, as he wasn't familiar with their offerings. The menu is simply a board over the counter and he apparently didn't see it right away. She certainly could have been a little more easygoing, but he did get what he wanted and moved on with a smile. Anyway, the lady who waited on me was courteous and quick. Now ...my sandwich. Absolutely fantastic! I ordered the Spicy Italian and it was the best!!! Super fresh bread, wonderful greens, meats and a flavorful dressing. A little pricier than the ubiquitous sub chain, but well worth it. I will definitely be back.

Trying to figure out what to do at lunch everyday can be boring. Burgers or Subway. HMMMMMM --chain restaurants; how excitiing. And then one day I found this neighborhood sandwich shop-owned by a family in the neighborhood and life seemed better. The gal who owns it (Laura) works every day running her counter, making her home made soups-everything so fresh and very economical. They make their own breads as well and it beats Subway--hands down. I love to support community owned businesses and I hope more people discover Peppachino. It's located at the corner of County Road E and Lexington. Warm and friendly-fantastic sandwiches. They also have buy 1/ get 1 deals. Delish~
