First time having sushi at this place was very great! Fast service along, good food, and a nice atmosphere all around! Loved it and will be going back soon!

Had a chef special, very decent sushi. Went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was dead.

My husband and I have gone here twice in the last couple months and have experienced very poor service both times. Our order took exceptionally long. Over 35 minutes for our actual sushi order (two identical orders). They were not busy at the time either. When we asked our server about the delay he didn't even know if it had been started yet. When the sushi order arrived it appeared quickly prepared and was not of the quality we have experienced in the past. We will not be returning again.

We eat here at least twice a week. The owners are very accomodating, the sushi very clean and fresh. It is located in a small strip mall but has decent atmosphere for a mall joint. Service is generally pretty good and you rarely need a reservation. We've also had parties of about 10-12 people and they handled it easily.

Decided to try this joint over Dickeys BBQ. I'm really glad I did. The service was quick and very friendly, the restaurant is nice inside and quite cozy, not what I expect from a strip mall Japanese restaurant. Salad and soup came out quick and the salad was very fresh, which is uncommon for some reason even though an entire he's of iceberg lettuce is a buck! I ordered hibachi chicken B lunch which comes with sushi and rangoons as a bento box. Portions were fair, food was excellent. I'll be back for sure.

My daughter and I eat here at least every other week. We've had everything from the sushi rolls, bento dinners, hibachi meals and their soup. ALL have been very delicious. The staff is always so friendly and on top of their game. While they don't have the huge hibachi griddles you could definitely compare their food to Osaka. I highly recommend going here if you are in the area. They never disappoint.

I can't help but feel that the review about there being roaches, and having disgusting food, is a complete lie. I Have been to this place since it has opened and have always received friendly and clean service. The food has always been good, and with a sushi menu that is ever changing. I'm not always in to "Americanized" type rolls, but they do a really good inventive job of combining new flavors. I just Tried TNT roll today. The plate came out beautifully, and was a good mexican fusion, with a cilantro and jalepeno combination that worked surprisingly well with everything else..I hope to see it again ;)

This was a Groupon meal, i wouldn't normally hit the "deep south burbs" for sushi. Strip mall sushi, burbs style. A small sushi bar that seats about eight and thats where i sat, all by myself. I think this is normally the best seat in the house, you can check out the sushi chefs masterworks. Service was a bit slower than what i would expect but it was tolerable. I ordered The Yoshi roll, Unagi (smoked eel), salmon and tuna maki. The roll was good but i thought the tampura flakes were overpowering and very thick on top. Too much eel sauce on the Unagi, I had two servings and told the chef to ease up on the sauce the second time. I thought the tuna and salmon was nice and firm with good flavor. Would I go back? Sure, if I had another Groupon. It is a bit out of my way so I wouldn't make a special trip.

This place is hilarious. First of all, welcome to Americanized sushi. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I guess, but just understand you are eating what is to japanese food the same as McD's is to American food. If you want good sushi in Mn, do not go to a place with a japanese city in its name. Having said that, for low end sushi and sashimi, this place is decent. I won't come back though, because there are a lot of low end places that just do it better...but at least this area has something now for people who want to think they're trendy but don't have the budget to be.

I've traveled the world. Sushi is something that every country does differently. I've learned to respect each country's take on what constitutes good sushi, and understand that, unless you are buying from a top-end place in Hawaii/Polynesia (where lots of fish is sourced, anyway) you can't really complain about freshness in a few species. That being said, this is Shakopee. And for American sushi in Shakopee? This place is good. If you want to go crazy and eat some American style rolls, they offer a big list of flavors. There are also rice-free options for people who are following fad diets and such, caring about "gluten" or "carbs." I've also had uni here, and, that's great! I can have uni....in Shakopee! Given the potential ingredients, the possibilities, and the location, this place is worthwhile. If anyone is looking for un-American, "authentic" sushi, I'd suggest, first and foremost, not dining in America over visiting Jiro in Japan. Or try heading to California, or Hawaii. But, if you understand food, "terroir," and working with what you've got for the audience you've got, this place is better than decent.

Friendly service and good sushi! We brought our young kids here with some Happy Meals and asked if it would be cool with them if the kids ate Mcjunk while we ate sushi. No problem! My wife and I enjoyed maguro, unagi, and several different rolls. She liked the Dynamite roll. The kids enjoyed the ice cream. I'd say this place was fairly Americanized which can be both good and bad... all in all we had a very enjoyable time.

Great service and good food. The wait staff is great! The owner Nicole loves when we come in even though we always use a coupon :).

I absolutely agree that this is a great place to get your sushi fix, especially if you live nearby in Shakopee! I first visited this place on May 26th,2012, when my boyfriend's mom took me out for my birthday. Since then, I've been here two more times and I will be going there in about an hour(four visits total within 2 months). One of the waitresses may not have much expression but she is attentive when you need her and I was impressed when she remembered our 6 item order without writing it down, which might make some people uneasy. But, it didn't bother me. I have much respect for any diverse restaurant located in a unsuspecting area. All places deserve at least one chance. The only other place to get sushi near Shakopee is at 98 pounds in Bloomington. It is an oriental buffet styled restaurant with a sushi bar. Which I will write another review for... Anyways, much respect for the cooks and waiting staff. The atmosphere is VERY relaxing and this place has very clean bathrooms, if you care... Prices are reasonable and don't forget about their 3-6 happy hour special which means buy one, get one half off rolled sushi, YES!!! Now I have to get so I can get my sushi fix since it's happy hour. P.S. please ignore any of my grammatical/spelling errors, I'm in a rush to get some food :)

Do not eat at this Restaurant! I ordered an appetizer, never got it. The food came cold and we saw 2 cockroaches on the floor. The waitress picked one up and put it outside. I do not think she washed her hands. The booths were not secured to the floor and wall and kept moving and the bathroom was FILTHY! Their food is not good! If you want to eat with the cockroaches, go ahead, I would prefer to eat in a clean restaurant.

So glad to have sushi close by! I've been here a few times since they opened and am glad to see that business is booming. Overall, the food is pretty good - the fish tends to be a little mushy so I'm not sure if it's the absolute freshest, but definitely acceptable. Their bento boxes are a very good deal, as is the Love Boat - you get like 115 pieces of sushi for $60, arranged on an awesome wooden boat. I think their rolls are their best - my favorite is the Zen-zen, a vegetable maki roll. The vegetable gyoza are delectable! wrapped in a delicate orange-colored pasta that I think they make themselves.

Had a few rolls....kind of skimpy on the amount of fish but like someone else mentioned...it was decent and clean.

Stopped in for lunch today and ordered spicy tuna rolls and asparagus rolls for take-out. The restaurant was pretty busy but they got my order to me in under ten minutes. I was very happy when I got back to the office and dug in. Very good! I'll be back.

3 word review: strip mall sushi. Pretty much says it all. A satisfactory low end sushi place, service was fine, meal was tasty, 3-asian-beers-on-the-menu were exactly the one's you would expect. I will say it seemed a bit overpriced overall but probably not what you wouldn't expect at any sushi place regardless of "quality". Special note: check out these 3 menu items (verbatim): Sushi dinner - 9 pcs sushi & tuna roll - $17 Sashimi dinner - 15 pcs assorted raw fish - $17 Sushi & Sashimi for 2 - 8 pcs sushi, 12 pcs sashimi with shrimp tempura roll and california roll - $46 any guesses what we ordered? Note: I have mastered the art of 1 and 2 digit addition.

Just opened a couple of days ago. The restaurant is in a strip mall between Savage and Shakopee. Nicely decorated and very quant. Not many people there while our family was there for dinner on a Tuesday night around 7:30PM. Service was very friendly and the restaurant has a very large menu to choose from. All of us had miso soup which was quite good, especially during these cold winter nights. My wife ordered a bento box that took a while to arrive. I had a few pieces of sushi (Spicy Tuna and King Crab). The pieces were large and very tasty. There was a lot of meat in both sushi offerings. I also had a plate of beef hibachi fried rice. That was pretty good; not great. My wife's bento box took some time to come out and we were somewhat concerned about that. When it did arrive, everything was quite good, but the tempura shrimp was awesome. I highly recommend the bento box. Before we had a chance to say anything, the waitress served us a complimentary tempura ice cream (actually two balls of ice cream, one vanilla and the other green tea). This dessert was very tasty. The tempura coating on this ice cream was very sweet and had a cake consistency to it. Highly recommended. The prices were not too bad. All in all, a very good first visit. We'll definitely head back since it's so close to home.

The hubby and I made a stop here after reading the reviews. Since moving back from the West Coast 4 years ago, we've been searching high and low for a great sushi joint. We ordered the Volcano Roll, the Tokyo Roll, Sunshine Roll and the Cupid roll which was a special that they kept from Valentine's Day since it was so popular. All I could say is OMG!!! The sushi was fresh flavorful, delicious and the service was outstanding! We will definitely be going back for more!!

Best sushi in Minnesota! I live in the cities and have explored many restaurants far more expensive and luxurious than Tokyo, and I would still much rather come here. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The owner Nicole goes out of her way to get to know customers and make sure they're enjoying there time. If you're just getting to go, the service is incredibly fast. I have never had an order take longer to finish. I may be biased as a former employee but there is nothing like it in the area. Delicious food, great service, what more could you ask for?

I went here before a movie about a week ago, and my sister and I were very impressed. Being from the cities, we didn't know what to expect of this little place in Shakopee, but the prices were great, and the vegetable rolls and spring rolls we got were great. Great food, great value, great atmosphere.

Pretty good for the burbs! Good food all round. My wife decided we should share the love boat. I would say we got through about half of it! It was very good. The volcano roll was excellent!

My wife and I tried this local Sushi and were happy with the quality and flavor. Great option in Shakopee, MN! Atmosphere was intimate and relaxing with classical music in background. Great service and competitive prices. Some of the best Philadelphia rolls we've had and the Spicy Tuna was on point as well!

Sushi in Shakopee, Minnesota ??? Not sure if I would eat there... But it wasn't too bad... It was editable for a small town like that.

Tokyo is the best in the area. I use Tokyo as my escape every other week or so. Service is great, sushi is phenomenal, and has a nice atmosphere. Drink selection is limited, but not a big deal. I try a different roll every time I go and I'm never disappointed.

I'm SO excited to have a place like this in shakopee. Their rolls are fresh, good quality and artfully presented. The hibachi is delicious, the sushi is fantastic and the prices are really reasonable. I don't care if it's "Americanized" or in a strip mall. It's delicious and it makes places like Crave look like a joke. The atmosphere is cozy, it's exceptionally clean and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I can't wait to try every. Single. Item.

Every week or so I get the absolute and undeniable craving for sushi. So I venture out and seek new places to satiate my cravings. Now having recently moved to Shakopee, I hadn't yet found a sushi joint on my own. So I found myself completely at the mercy of the Yelpers out there to point me in the right direction. The reviews seemed fair, so off to Tokyo Grill and Sushi I went. First appearances were a little disconcerting, as Sushi from a strip mall has seldom ended well for me. But my cravings being what they are, I forged ahead. Let me tell you, no regrets here. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the sushi chef was very concerned with appearances and results. I ordered the party platter and a Sapporo Draft. The beer was cold and refreshing, and made the expected wait easier to accept, as I had ordered a family sized tray just for myself. The chef unasked, offered me a sashimi appetizer with tuna, salmon, whitefish, avocado etc. delicious!!! When the main platter arrived, it was a simple yet attractive presentation. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The rolls were some of the best I've had. I would highly recommend the dynamite roll, and the vegetarian roll. Definitely above average. I would classify this place as certainly more than acceptable, and better than most. If you have a craving, like I get, this is a great place to satisfy your cravings. Best part, 2 beers, and a massive tray of quality sushi, less than 80$. Easily 150$ any where else. Fantastic!!! Update!! Another visit another wonderful experience. Served another appetizer while waiting, enough sashimi to be a meal. Ordered another ice cold Sapporo and a sushi platter. Excellent. I've upgraded to 5 stars, and highly reccomend!!!!

, bad experience. Your sushi chefs were very rude and upset that I came in at 940pm. Mind you I called in before I drove all this way to make sure your were open. They wanted to refuse service because they had already cleaned up their station. If you want to stop serving at 930 then change your hours!

pretty standard AMERICAN sushi which i'm trying really hard to appreciate as a fusion cuisine and not just pandering to a collective palate that favors sticky sweet sauces, spicy mayo and gummy bits of tempura batter scooped from the fryer. then again if you order rolls with names like BURNING MAN and SEXY GIRL how "authentic" can you reasonably expect your dining experience to be ?? we slid into our booth about 9 pm and it took a while for the first plates to arrive so we took surprisingly few pictures and those we did take look heavily grazed but that's probably just a coincidence. always impressed when wait staff doesn't write down our order. would be more impressive if she actually got it right ... nine-year old JULIANA's MISO and GYOZA were standard sushi bar fare and the wife's ONION SOUP was a very thin, barely onion flavored broth. seven-year old WYATT gobbled down his TUNA SASHIMI so i'm guessing it was pretty good. he only had a couple pieces of his SEXY GIRL roll (i'm beginning to see a theme in what he orders and not convinced he's even skimming the ingredient list) but i had a couple too and they were my favorite bites of the evening. dad's BURNING MAN roll was pretty uninspired and the hairy DRAGON roll (that would be EEL on top with dried BONITA FLAKES) was what she forgot to order and arrived very late with gummy bits of the aforementioned tempura instead of shaved dried bonita.

At last! We found the place and we ate good sushi and sashimi. All plates are empty! Last week GPS sent us here but we did not find this place. Signage is not that revealing that is why its hard to see.
