Good basic food with huge portions. Basic beef is with the lackadaisical service - I'm not wild about the servers who don't mention though that the a la carte versions of the sandwiches and burgers come with chips (pretty good) and for almost $3 more, you get some pretty lame cole slaw and fries. I felt sort of decieved when I ordered a burger and said - now, what are my options - and the waitress said " it comes with fries" - yeah and that's the "upgraded" versioon - she could have mentioned that the $6.95 basic version was an option. Service is not terrible attentive either.

I have tried this place several times with several people, because I keep hearing how good it is. I'm sorry, I usually give at least 3 stars to most, but I just can't lie. This place is Terrible! They have the worst cooks! Every time our food is over cooked, under cooked, or just plain lousy! Plus they charge quite a bit.

Service here is usually pretty standard for a breakfast diner, but today the server was attentive and friendly. We ordered two kids cakes, one with ham steak and the other with sausage links; they come out as little bear shapes with M&M faces so the kids loved that. My husband and I split the 'Golden Apple' - it's a sausage burger with cheese, bacon and cinnamon apple slices between a bun made of their caramel cinnamon roll. It was delicious. Honestly, if you haven't tried the savory/sweet combos on other foods, it's definitely worth a try. One of the more unique offerings on their menu.

The service was awesome! The food was okay. I decided to have the special which was biscuits and gravy and the meal was slightly cold and the biscuit was hard. The hash browns were the o my part of the dish that was done right or to my liking. Still would recommend this place to others.

Large portions, great taste, old fashioned and cozy! So in the midst of Finals we decided to do Brunch! I love Brunch and would find any excuse to have some. Keys was a whole new experience for me . This diner style bakery/restaurant gave me a truly memorable Brunch experience. We walked in on a Monday afternoon and as a party of two I was super happy to get a big old booth to ourselves...;-) I love getting to spread out and get a little privacy. After scanning the menu everything looked good, but I finally decided and ordered the No.2 with Italian, Beef hash and toast. In addition, I ordered a pancake and some hot chocolate! This pancake was gigantic! I literally was overwhelmed at the site of it but was ready to dig in. I loved my food!!! Everything was so good. I thought the Italian beef hash tasted interesting. I am use to the traditional cornbeef hash so this flavor was different, but good nonetheless. I loved that it had "yummy" on their menu! That is a word that I would use to describe my experience at Keys. I will definitely go back for Brunch. FYI: Something I found interesting is that you pay at the counter, the bill is not brought to your table.

My first time at Roseville's location. I've been to the location on Raymond Avenue and of course, my favorite location: Keys at the Foshay. Roseville was a good one too, large spacious booths and friendly, efficient servers. We were a party of 6, and luckily we were able to make a reservation for brunch at 10am on a Saturday. When I arrived, I couldn't even walk through the front door. It felt like the State Fair, when you're standing in line at the Mouse Trap cheese curds inside the food building. I squashed through, family in tow, and found our friend who was already seated at our booth. Service was fast and accommodating, which was awesome due to the place being so packed and me expecting a long wait before we could place our brunch order. We were able to order promptly after being seated and our food took about 10-15 minutes to arrive. Excellent. I only got an order of 2 buttermilk pancakes, and a side of bacon. This was a lot of food. The pancakes were huge, fluffy and vanilla-tasting. I buttered them up and poured on some of the syrup that was already on the table. Side of bacon had 4 or 5 pieces, I lost count after eating 3. I was awfully surprised that I couldn't finish it. I also couldn't finish the pancakes, I only managed about half of them. (Leftovers went to a hungry husband in need) Coffee was delicious, freshly brewed and refilled quickly much to everyone's delight. We all needed a caffeine boost that morning! My sister's eggs benedict Florentine was also great, I had a bite of hers. It was a bit too "runny" for her, she had asked for the eggs to be over hard. Slight mishap, but no matter. I helped her out. Spinach was fresh tasting and not wilted. Hollandaise sauce was buttery and rich. My mom had their Belgian waffle with whipped cream. She managed to eat most of it, they are smaller than the pancake sizes. Impressive meals were had by all, and we will definitely be back! Parking was a bit of a nightmare, but I was able to find a spot near the Dairy Queen. I noticed that this is right by the St. Paul Bagelry (yum) so I will have to go back to this location soon! Highly recommended.

Not as good as it use to be. I ordered a omlet and it was thee most watery omlet I've ever had! I ordered the wild rice and gravy omelette.

I'm actually really surprised at how disappointing our visit was. The server was rushed and forgetful. They were out of caramel rolls (which was supposed to be the bun for my sandwich, so I had to change my whole order.) The Italian Pasta soup was so salty that it was barely edible. They brought chips instead of carrots and veggies with my sandwich, which was an honest mistake. She quickly brought the veggies, but she just plopped the plate in front of me and walked away. The celery was dirty. And there was no dipping sauce of any kind. The applesauce on my daughter's burger basket was spilling all over the rest of her food. Her bun, while fresh, was so crumbly that it fell apart in her hands. Overall, a real disappointment.

Keys is always avoid spot to get the grease your body don't really need. From heart stopping bacon grease to just plain old non healthy breakfast food. And the ppl keep coming back for more.......?

Two stars because servers and employees are pleasant and no rudeness experienced. Now for the rest of the story. White Board at entrance announces a special. "Biscuits & Gravy". I love biscuits and gravy, ok I'll have that. "I'm sorry sir, we don't have biscuits, just gravy". Forty minute wait for biscuits to come out of the oven, so we'll go with the Eggwich. Egg and sausage between two large lightly toasted pieces of the driest bread I ever saw. I've never been to a place that even F'ed up toast but Keys wins. Hash Browns-tasteless, dry. Coffee-lukewarm weak. Fruit Cup-decent and fresh. Someone else had a Veggie Omelet, reported as tasteless and again dry flat toast. Waiting benches, filled with crumbs. Floor filthy, and this was early in the day too. General appearance-perhaps they are trying for small town cafe feel but I found the plastic flowers lining the decks cluttering. Overuse of the "Soup Nazi" theme from Seinfelt for gimmicky gifts. Talk about dated. BTW do they have a copyright agreement to use the famous "no soup.." phrase? Overall aesthetics is confused and theme less, in other words someone had an idea for a simple home town cafe and too many family members threw in their opinion. Throw in the take out food cooler with of course more clutter on top and crowd in the terminal right across from the maitre'd stand. The dining area is more roomy and the booths comfortable.

Keys is pretty much a staple for me whenever I visit home from college in CT. Of course it's going to be busy pretty much all day during the weekend, so I just sit back and enjoy their seemingly bottomless coffee and good conversation of my company. I always get the turkey hash with eggs over easy- to die for! I usually leave with a cookie and I have no complaints about those.

This whole place makes me cringe. The front of house seems to be run by kids with little to no training. I've been here often for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, which are probably the busiest time, but that's no excuse for being short with guests. The hostesses that greet you (eventually)/take the money are beyond unpleasant generally. I've seen several different girls turn away from a guest and roll their eyes. This is so unprofessional and really bothers me. The service is slightly better in that I've never experienced an unpleasant server - merely undertrained and understaffed. They don't seem to know the menu as well as they should and also seem regularly take forever to do little things like get boxes for food, deliver checks, and get by to take orders. One thing I will say is that once an order is put in, the food comes out quickly. Additionally, the decor is dingy and dirty and could use some serious updating. Food's great. I've liked everything I've had EXCEPT for the omelettes. Cold eggs with two pieces of unmelted American cheese slapped on top - gross. I probably won't continue to bring people here as long as the staff seem so unprofessional and short-staffed. It makes me uncomfortable having to smile at any newcomers I've brought with me and say, "...but the food is great." My recommendation is that if you're in the area you go to St Paul Bagelry & Deli in the same strip mall. GREAT food, and no attitude from the staff.

I was craving bacon and a cinnamon roll. I had a to go order of both. I asked for 2 orders of bacon assuming that they were a side and each order would be like 2-3 pieces however I got an abundance of bacon. Some of it was on the crunchier side but still very tasty. I also enjoyed the cinnamon roll which was large and in charge.

I love the feel of the old school diner and Keys delivers. The waitresses appear friendly but over worked, the place is clean but looks a bit worn and the breakfast is delicious. They always have coupons in different places to make the value here even better. Parking is in the large lot outside the door. At certain times the place is packed so be ready to wait a bit, but it is worth it. They even have their name on the old white coffee mugs. Enjoy!

Good food, large portions, so-so service. They seem like they are always short staffed. I agree it would be nice if they lowered their prices and made the portions a little smaller. But there's always leftovers

Stopped on they way home from work Christmas Eve (about 2 PM) to get some soup to go. Apparently they don't do soup on Christmas Eve, which I didn't know. Got heckled by some kitchen staff who apparently thought they were being really clever and left. A couple who walked in right in front of me also left after being told that what they wanted was also not available. Apparently there is a limited menu on Christmas Eve that if only we were regulars we would know.

You haven't lived till you've had a cake from Keys. My office constantly gets these and for days nobody can shut up about how good it was. Seriously. Last week we got the 10 inch carrot cake for a birthday. It weighed a ton, but was moist and delicious! It is huge with two layers and loads of the best frosting. No nuts either, which is exactly the way a carrot cake should be. I've also had their rhubarb sour cream cake. Phenomenal flavors and chunks of rhubarb. To die for. The restaurant kind of reminds me of Perkins, but don't be afraid. Come in for a slice of the best cake you'll ever taste for $5.

I really want to like this Keys more. Their food is good - I love their enormous pancakes, and the cinnamon rolls are amazing, and in general the portion sizes are gigantic. (Though sadly, my favorite Keys dish - an egg/spinach/cream cheese/garlic scramble with american fries and toast - is only available at the downtown Mpls location, my favorite Keys of the 4 I've tried.) However, the service at the Roseville location is really sub-par - and I can say this confidently since we've eaten here 4 or 5 times, and all but one (maybe two) of our visits we've had really weird and/or slow service. The worst was the time we went in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday, when it was relatively empty, and we stood for over 5 minutes at the front waiting for some of the high school kids goofing around by the kitchen to notice that we were there. (We eventually gave up and went to the Chinese buffet instead - Panda Garden FTW!). We totally understand service being slower on super busy days, but even when the restaurant is half empty, you tend to feel a little bit like you're invisible - good luck trying to catch the eye of your server as they speed by to go chit chat with their friends behind the counter. The only other gripe I have is that when you pay, the cashier at the front always asks if you'd like to add a tip to your bill. I'd rather just sign the receipt and add a tip like you would at any other restaurant, rather than announce to the cashier and everyone else around how much you're leaving. (That could be me being weird, but it just seems odd to me to do it that way) Don't let the sub-par service deter you; it's still a decent place to eat and we'll probably continue going. Just be prepared to practice a little extra patience here.

This is the go to place for home style cooking. Generous portions, friendly service and great dessert selections. The menu has something for everyone, breakfast served all day. The pancakes are as big as the plate, the hash browns are crispy golden brown, try the turkey dinner yum!

Great french toast ! But weekend mornings are very busy and its almost impossible to find parking. The women staff members seems to be more friendly and willing to greet more than the males that work there...(sexual harrassment clause, maybe) lol. Good food, some bakery items are ok like the cookies, I have yet to have a soft one thus far, which makes me think that they sit out a couple days before their switched out...could use updating on the decor, but the diner feel is cool too. Will definately be a regular place I visit because the food is tasty.

Food took forever, was cold when it got to the table. I ordered a large breakfast consisting of 2 scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, and french fries. They piled everything on top of each other on one plate. Would have nice to have separate plates for the fries and toast. Toast was not toasted at all, waaay to much butter on the bread. French fries were soggy and cold. also, nothing is worse then cold scrambled eggs...bacon was the only thing that was ok. Ladies at front taking names and calling tables were very loud and crabby. Not going back here. Even the fountain Mountain Dew was flat. They try to get you in and out as fast as possible.

Best breakfast place in Minnesota!! Everything I try blows me away! I highly recommend the original omelet & the Denver. Sometimes the hot cocoa is a hit or miss, but that never stops me from ordering it every single time. :) ( that lovely ) The portions are ENORMOUS. Over the top, 10x what you need, omelets the size of your head, enough coffee to keep you up for days - PERFECT. ( college students - this is your chance to order 1 item & have it last for 3 days - GO! )

Keys is about as close to a sure thing, never disappoint as it gets (at least to me). Truth be told, I've at a lot of Keys Cafes in my day, WBL, Foshay, Robert St, STLP, Forest Lake etc. But, this was my first stop to the mall bound Keys in Roseville. Got there right at the tail end of the dinner rush, so the host was seating people left and right before it was our turn. Get seated, and the waitress for our table was flying by, but at least told us she'd be a few minutes - which is a great touch for a waitress to do. Waters get delivered in the mean time, wonderful! Go through the menu, your standard for Keys really, cafe breakfasts, some comfort'esk dinner options, lots of sandwiches and some salads. I resist the urge for pancakes at 7pm (still of the mind Foshay and WBL Keys have the best cakes between all of them) and go with a grilled chicken salad with all the fun little extras a salad should have. No time at all, our food is coming out. Salad is very well proportioned, nice hunk of chicken boob laid out the entire salad with everything else neatly tucked away. The raspberry vinaigrette was amazing too (an served on the side even without asking, which is damn nice). All of the toppings were at least as fresh as they could be. The onions had snap, seeds and croutons weren't stale tasting or anything, and the olives weren't mushy. Waitress checked on us a couple times throughout, the water was replenished each time it got close to being empty and dinner was exactly how I'd expect at a Keys. Always nice when you can meet up with a friend for dinner to BS and it costs just a shade over $20 for a satisfying meal with great service.

Stopped at Key's Cafe and Bakery for breakfast on Saturday, July 11. 3 adults and 1 child. The service was BAD! Seated, beverages ordered and delivered.....server did not stop back to see if we needed refills. Food ordered and delivered......server never stopped back to see if everything was OK. The restaurant was maybe 25% full. The food is good at Key's, but their prices are on the higher side for breakfast. That being gsaid, their service level needs to REALLY be raised. I really don't think i would ever stop there again.

As busy as they were, I thought my food would have at least been fresh. My eggs were old and rubbery and the toast was so cold it did not even melt the butter. I immediately sent my food back, finished my coffee and left hungry. Yuck. I will NOT be going back.

I usually enjoy Keys Cafe & Bakery for their food and exceptional costumer service, but the Roseville location fell short of my expectations. It took the waitress 15 minutes after I arrived to finally take my drink order. Once the food arrived, both of the orders at our table received stone cold toast. We requested new toast and our new orders of toast came out colder than the original, which I did not think was possible. I asked to get a refill on coffee and water multiple times and never received either by the end of the meal. Needless to say, this was the worst costumer service I had ever received. They had multiple employees standing around talking during our breakfast time so it was not like they were overloaded. The food was good besides the cold toast.

I am hereby updating my review and awarding Keys Cafe an extra 2 stars for a total of 4 and the "Yay! I'm a fan." status; While I was fairly hesitant of coming back I agreed to pop in with my boyfriend once more for dinner and a cup of coffee. Knowing that the last 2-3 times I have been here I have been disappointed in my meals I opted to veer away from the breakfast category (which is unHEARD of for me!) and try something new. I spotted the Monte Cristo and locked in my choice. Homemade bread dipped in french toast batter, Swiss cheese, turkey, and ham with homemade raspberry jam? SOLD. It.was.breathtaking. Even my boyfriend was envious of my sandwich and his meatloaf dinner was suddenly and wholly inadequate, lol. Poor guy. I let him have 1/4 of my sandwich, because I am nice. Though if he asked for any more than that I would have to re-evaluate our relationship. Anyway, point being, drop everything you're doing RIGHT NOW and go to Keys and get the Monte Cristo; It will change your life.

I love this place. I always walk in and feel welcomed and at home. The food is excellent, I recommend the 5 ingredient omelette. LeAnn, my server on this day was fantastic! I've never had a bad meal or bad service here or any of the other locations as well. I will make this my regular place from now on! The family that owns this restaurant is about as community oriented as any I've seen. Keep it local. And Key's gives you a reason to do so!

I had heard amazing things about keys but this experience was horrible! We visited on a Sunday at 11am. Upon sitting down, I would sayit took the waitress- deb 5 mins to come over to our table and ask "do you know what you want". There was no "good morning" or "would you like to start with coffee". We ordered 2 cups of coffee and then waited, and waited, and waited. 15 mins later deb stopped by the table, apologized for the wait and wanted to know if we were ready to order. I told her we would like the coffees we ordered. Eventually she brought them out and said she would comp us for them We ordered Belgian waffle, bacon, and the Mexican omelet. She sat the food in front of us, the omelet was incorrect! She served us an omelet for the table next to us. She said our omelet would be out in just one minute. In the meantime, she brings a cupcake for us to eat. We did NOT eat it. So I'm waiting for the omelet to come while the waffle and bacon was getting cold sitting on the table. 5 mins later the omelet finally arrived. Food was meh. Nothing amazing! In the end, I will NOT return to Keys and they are receiving a phone call from me today

Very disappointing will never return. The waitress was rude. I ordered the Cajun breakfast and the majority of it was all peppers & onions. The toast came at the end of the meal.

Some friends and I got there an hour before they closed. Staff was friendly and didn't rush us out, so that's a plus. The food was decent, typical classic diner Americana: breakfast is served all day which I argue is probably the best thing in their menu.

Ah, man! It's my 100th review and I wish I would have something more fun to say! The service at Key's was strange and awkward. It took about 10 minutes to be greeted and after we received our drink order the kiddo had to hit up the potty and when we got back, our entire table was cleared away!! The kid was spazzing because his chocolate milk was AWOL and nobody seemed to take notice until I ran around trying to flag someone down. (they blamed the busboys, and I definitely can see that they could have been members of the zombie takeover because nobody seemed to be of the living). When we finally got settled with our food, it was most excellent. Yummy pancakes and cookies and goodies and such. In the end, I'd rather pay less at a different local bakery for the goodies and get our pancakes at R.J. Riches or even Perkins. Sorry, Key's!

Visited this Keys today. Food was good and service was above average. I really wish that they would lower their prices and make the portions smaller. I had the liver and onions. The mashed potatoes were runny. Two very big pieces of liver with several pieces of bacon and onions. Over all. Not bad.

  • Khyre D.

The food portions were large but the quality is very bad. I ordered the pancakes which I thought would be good. But they were dry and doughy on the inside. It was awful, I didnt finish it and had to go home and make something to eat. Also, I ordered the strawberries to put on my pancakes and it was not very good either (Also they charge 2.95 extra for strawberries. The syrup at the table is the log cabin brand that you can get at the grocery store, you have to pay 1.95 extra for the real maple syrup. The waitress was nice but she didn't check on us to see if we were enjoying the food. Also, the waitress took a long time to take our order. If you are looking for flavor and good food, I wouldn't come here. This was the worst food I have ever had at a diner.

I always order the chicken tenders and fries just because that's my favorite to order when I am at an American Restaurant. They give you quite alot for one order. The staff there are very kind. However, it takes a little longer for your food to come out. Regardless, the food is good!

  • Hannah G.

This place knows what's up. They serve big portions of tasty home-cooked food in a low-key atmosphere. We almost always go for brunch and split a big ol' omelet and some waffle fries. The prices are a little steep, but when you see what arrives in front of you, you realize you get what you pay for. Only caveat? Prepare to wait. You can put your name on the list by phone ahead of time, but I don't think I've ever been seated in less than 15-20 minutes. Some days, service can be pretty slow too but it's obvious it's just because they're so darn busy!

    (4)
  • Zach R.

This place is always packed, and the food is quite good. The waitstaff seem harried, but it's a dinner, not fine dining, so I'm okay with that. I've had the Cajun platter, and the cinnamon French toast, both of which I highly recommend. The only reason I dinged them on the star was the price. Breakfast for two before tip is more than 30 dollars, and that's with only coffee, not juice. They also have real maple syrup for an up charge, which is totally worth it.

Long wait for a table and even longer wait for food that was improperly cooked and ridiculously bland. I really don't understand why people go to this spot and it makes my head hurt reading reviews stating that this place has the "best breakfast in minnesota". That's crazy talk.

We stopped a few weeks ago on our way to Como Zoo. We grabbed a couple of baked goods from the bakery. The banana chocolate chip muffin could have been a little less chunky in the banana department, but it was still yummy! Loved the cinnamon roll! About two weeks later, we went out for brunch on a Sunday. Be prepared to wait about 45 minutes before you sit down. As my husband waited, I drove around for a good 15 minutes looking for a parking spot. Once we sat down, it took our server a long time to swing by to say hi & take our drink order. Then it took her forever to come back with our drinks. The food is home-style cooking, which is a bonus to my family. The breads used are baked there in their bakery, so it is fresh! Melt in your mouth fresh! Planning to go again sometime in the future.

I went here with my friend Kara on Saturday for lunch and to catch up with her. She had suggested Keys and haven't never been to Keys before I'm glad she did. Since I just woke up about a hour before she picked me up, I was hungry. I had a cup spicy black bean soup which was of the soups of the day plus the Grilled Cheese Tender Melt with fries. The black bean soup had just the right amount of spicy that hit the back of your throat and saltiness to it. If they are offering this soup when you're there, I highly recommend that you get it. My Grilled Cheese Chicken Tender Melt was delicious. The chicken was moist and the cheese was gooey on top their own homemade bread. Keys wins hands down in the Chicken Tender Melt department against Perkins. My friend let me try some of her Grilled Turkey Melt which she raved about when she ordered it. I have to say she was right to rave about and I'm not a big turkey fan. The service was pretty good from start to finish. We were quickly seated even though they were busy and space was limited. Our waitress, who probably in her 40s, was good, but was slightly awkward at times in her conversation and seeing if we wanted anything else. Case in point, she asked us if we wanted anything else to which we both said no. She then asked if we were sure and placed her hand on my shoulder. I'm sorry, but if we are not friends, please don't touch me. I like my personal space. It was just odd. She made an error on my friend's bill but the front counter was able to correct it. It was kind of comical watching it get fixed as the guy at the register was discussing asking two other people, one being the manager?, how much a cup was soup was and the other guy that was seating people kept yelling in the background, $2 over and over again. I will be back again and maybe I'll try their breakfast items that I read such good things about.

Man! The pancakes were like manhole covers! That's what their promotional material touts. I met a friend there for a quick breakfast before we did the dog park at Reservoir Woods. I'm glad I ordered only two cakes. They were giant and I ended up taking a nice chunk out with me to the delight of Lacy, my dog. She gobbled it up and, of course, with a doggy smile, wanted more. I like this place because it's homey and family like. Not pretentious, just good old American breakfast food. One can definitely hurt themselves with the servings though. So, be careful. Another place that I will do again.

Previous reviews have touched on the decor and I'd have to agree with those. We had Cinnamon French toast with Bacon and Mexican Omelet. Omelet was HUGE, and really good came with chips and homemade salsa. The salsa was AMAZING. The Cinnamon French toast was perfect. The only thing I wasn't into was the bacon. I prefer crispy bacon. It was very chewy and fatty. Price wasn't a great value but I don't know that I'd consider it out of line for what we ordered. I did notice that a bowl of General Mills cereal was $4.50 on the menu. That's a pretty big mark-up. Our server was great! Friendly and attentive.

The food was overpriced, bland and the place needs to get a update because its a flashback to grandmas house when you first walk in. The booths we sat at were dirty and had crumbs still left over from the last customer that sat there. Overall prob not coming back because there are so many other places that have better food for a better price. Service was average but nothing out of the ordinary. I say pass this place up and go find a different joint to enjoy your breakfast foods.

I have stopped for breakfast after fasting doctor appointments 'cause I need to eat and it's the closest place. If there were other places about the same distance I would much rather go to them! Keys does not have a menu for seniors, their prices are high for what you get and the food is just like a Perkins or other chains. I have no reason to recommend this place for anything. 3 boos!

I absolutely love diners. As I am in school, they are an excellent place to study especially since they typically have free coffee refills and decent hours. This location is ok. If you are a student looking for free WiFi, good reasonably priced food, and an unlimited supply of coffee, all while sitting in a nice sized booth to spread all out, than this is the place. The service here is horrendous, but if you are studying, you really only want to be interrupted when the pot of joe is empty. I personally prefer the downtown Saint Paul location to this one. If you are looking to try out a Keys, that one is better but you will have to have quarters on hand for parking.

My friend is pregnant so we eat here quite often... HUGE portions :) I've always had great food and I think the prices are reasonable, especially for the rolls, which you must try. Tip: There's a coupon for a free beverage in the Roseville Chamber of Commerce visitor's book (download coupons here visitroseville.com/RVACo… ) One star subtracted because I wish the coffee was a tad better.

Italian skillet was unique and tasty. Pancakes are huge. Toast is yummy with homemade Raspberry jam. They had a pretty good crowd toward the early part of Sunday morning so it must be a neighborhood favorite. Next time I am back in town visiting my daughter at the UofM - I look forward to visiting again!

This place did not impress. The food was ok but the price was much more expensive than was warranted. The atmosphere reminded me of a place my grandma would go, and based on the clientele and servers, that's who was there for lunch. Truth be told, I've had better experiences at other Key's Cafes, partially why my rating is low for this establishment. The location in downtown St. Paul has a much different feel... like they are trying! Of course I could go in and just pick up a roll and be on my way, but sometimes I like to sit down and relax and enjoy myself. Some people around me seemed like they were enjoying themselves a little too much. I saw one elderly couple that seated at a booth, the woman's husband was nodding off the entire meal! If you're in the area a sticky caramel roll is worth stopping for, but if you're closer to Byerly's... just go there.

Bakery Review.. I decided to try B-day cakes for my daughter's 11th Bday in Jan. I usually go to another bakery, but wanted to explore a little. Their White cake, was just ok... Nothing special. Thank god I ordered a Strawberry shortcake also, the shortcake was really good. On another note, the guy forgot to charge me an addtional $10 for decorating... so i get a call the next day asking if i wanted it. Well i gues i dont have a choice at this point... so i was pimped out of $10 when i picked it up.. Bottom line, i think i will stick to my usual baker for plain white. But i may be back for the Strawberry Short Cake.

Old fashioned in that late 80s way. Reminded me of what family dining was when I was a kiddie. They were super nice - let me sit around for a few hours and have office hours with friends. The food was solid unhealthy fare. It was like a zoo of stereotypical midwesterners.

Is a restaurant still considered a mom and pop if they have like 9 different locations? Regardless, the family-run joint is still one of my favorite places to eat breakfast in the cities area. I've been to four different Keys (St. Paul on Robert St., Roseville, Spring Lake Park, and Woodbury) and not one really stands out from the other. They all have friendly staff and serve large heaping portions of food. They have your basic comfort food in the chicken fried steak, meat loaf, fried chicken, as well as basic burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads. And while all that is good, I really enjoy their breakfast items. I'm not even a big fan of that type of food either! In my opinion, their Biscuits and Gravy and the Italian Hash are the star items on the menu. You can't really have both though because you'd end up having leftovers for half the week. And last but not least, grab a cinnamon or caramel roll to top it off. They are massive in size and quite delicious. Can't ask for a much better breakfast feast than that!

I love this place! The people who work there are friendly, the food is fantastic, and the bakery is amazing! Just thinking about it makes me hungry!

Last week my co-worker Jr. & I were in need of some Dinner so Jr. suggested "Keys of Roseville" so we went. Jr. had the Roast Beef & I had the Turkey, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with Corn. It was like Thanksgiving in the middle of the week !!!!!!! So awesome I needed a nap.........................ZERO

What a great place to go when you want breakfast any time of day or a 'family' style feel! I was able to have all I could drink coffee two eggs, toast and a great portion of hash browns for about $8. The service was on top of everything and was not at all over attentive- which was great for me.

We were in the area and desperately hungover. And the only cure for a hangover is diner food (not cowbell). Keys is much better than a typical diner, though. The breakfast items are outstanding, whether it's a simple bowl of oatmeal, eggs and hash browns, or omelets. I love the soups (and appreciate Rhonda's love of good soups). I've even had their turkey dinner, apparently the best in the cities according to the Pioneer Press, and liked it a-okay, though the green beans are horrific. Here's the sad part: always too full to get dessert. One of these days I'll have to fix that.

Great breakfast and Lunch at Keys. Their omelets are huge and tasty. Their turkey dinner is also really good.

Sandwich is overpriced, no doubt. 8 bux gets ya a medium sized portion grilled cheese with tomato. While the Bacon is good, they barely put on any cheese (and in our case, they didn't even put the correct cheese on ). Finally, the wait was long, after placing the order. But the service was great... thr waitress was very kind.

I've had better. In fact, I've had better at other Keys. I met an old high school buddy for an early breakfast. His waffle was pretty ordinary. The syrup was a standard, supermarket brand. Nothing special. I ordered a special cajun hash made with sausage. It was ok. Potatoes were nice and crispy. But the rest of the ingredients just didn't blend well. (It really was more like a sausage skillet breakfast rather than hash.) Service was very good - attentive and friendly. Ambiance is comfortable. Other reviewers compare it to a home kitchen, and the comparison is apt. I guess I thought that there'd be more continuity between all of the Keys in town. This one was disappointing.

It's pretty decent. Great options for a diner for vegetarians, which is rare, and the food is good, but not fantastic.

This place was alright. I'll wan to try it again and see if there is any particular menu item that really shines, but otherwise this is a pretty decent, perhaps somewhat pricey, breakfast place.

You know, I said I wasn't going to attempt Keys Cafe again based on their so-so breakfast... Anyway, the other night we were out and about and ended up at this Keys up near the Roseville (or whatever it is called) dog park. When we walked in I could have sworn I was at my grandmother's house back in 1992. Seriously, it was like meatloaf, maple syrup, chocolate milk, baked roll scent heaven. We were seated next to a large table of grandma motorcycle mavens (minus the motorcycle maven part) and proceeded to peruse what is actually a good looking dinner menu. Against my better judgment I went for the haddock dinner. I've been away from Maine and real seafood for a while, so I figured I'd throw the dice. Service was decent, haddock dinner came with mashed taters and canned peas (which maybe is a midwest thing?). The ends of the fish were fine, but the center was fishy. I was thrown off a bit by that, as Haddock is not supposed to taste that way....but hey, I'm in Minnesota so.... Anyway, the husband got some sort of turkey dinner, and I nibbled on that a bit too. Nice basket of bread, good service, crazy cheap dinner for two on a weeknight. I will return to THIS keys cafe....but I'll stick to the Midwestern fare from now on.

Keys is my go to breakfast place, and I go for good reason. They serve extremely reasonably priced delicious food. I haven't had any of the rest of the menu, but all breakfast options that I've tried are perfect. AND they serve it all day. They serve thick cut bacon and have the regular breakfast foods, along with unique omelets. You can't go there without ordering a cinnamon roll or caramel pecan roll. They are served warm and melt in your mouth. I would suggest you order a meal and a roll and share both between two people. It's the perfect amount for two people for a breakfast and so tasty, you'll leave satisfied.

None of the other restaurants in this chain have had such trouble finding a competent cook. Love Keys, but the food at this one is atrocious. Avoid at all costs.

All the Keys are great destinations. I have never been there for anything but breakfats and lunch. The make-your-own omelet is great, but impossibly huge. Most often my freinds and I go for the chili. It's great, I need to ask for hot sauce on the side. Good comfort dishes l;ike turkey and meatloaf. The bakery goods are wonderful. Parking is a problem here because it is located in a two-block strip mall awash with good places to eat! This includes the legendary Mavericks.

I love Keys! It has just great food. The staff can be a little kooky, but that adds to the ambiance. I love having breakfast there and this location is pretty decent. I recommend any omelet.

I can't believe I'm finally getting around to reviewing keys. When you have out of town guests, this is usually one of the first places you take them to. For one of 3 reasons: 1. You're not crazy for choosing to live in MN. and if they had any brains they'd live here too. 2. For showing off your great taste in restaurants. 3. The thrill you get when they see the huge portions and take the first bite of food. It worked for me. It's even in the new Cohn bros. movie. We all know about their breakfasts, my favorite is the roast beef hash. I love their toast, but the cooks don't butter it, the waitresses do. not always the best case scenario. Pancakes seem to be a love or hate preference. The desserts at this location are amazing for the pie and cake lovers, they excel at both. For me it's house chocolate cake all the way. I bring this up now because once I was out for breakfast with visiting friends, and my husband ordered a carmel roll. I ordered a piece of cake, the results are the same. Lunch is the best soup imaginable. The most memorable tomato bisque, beef vegetable, New England clam chowder, corn chowder and on occasion, cream of spinach. The Raymond Ave. location likes to see how many they can do in a day. A cup is a good size bowl. A bowl is ridiculous. I like the soup/sandwich combo because you get a free cookie. A monstrous cookie. I choose the BLT, for the crunchiness. For dinner gravy with any kind of meat on the side. I chose this location as a favorite, for the roominess, parking, and Roy is great. Mom, Barbara Hunn, deserves the success she has for being so generous to her customers throughout the twin cities.

Grilled Denver Sandwich all the way! Their homemade bread could possibly compete with my grandma's for a county fair blue ribbon. Great start to a Good Morning!

Update May 2015 I prefer to eat at locally owned and operated places. For over twenty (20) years I've eaten at Keys whenever the opportunity presented itself. Less so over the last couple of years. My main complaint is the service, or lack thereof. Today was the final nail in Keys' coffin. The restaurant was less than 1/3 occupied by my table count. It was 8 to 10 minutes before the server arrived to my seat to get my drink order. I had already decided so I put my full order in. 15 minutes later I was still waiting for it. My drink was empty and I had been there for nearly a half hour. Meanwhile, servers were eating, chatting, and such at and behind the counter. To be fair, two servers were scrambling but I was still without my meal, flatware, drink refill, or an explanation. To add insult to injury, at least two groups that came in after me received their food. I left money for the drink and left, still very hungry. This is not the first time the service has been snail slow. But it is the last time for me. It's as though they really don't want single customers, only groups. Keys used to be great, now, not so much. I've dropped Keys rating from four to two stars. I only wish Yelp* did half stars, then it would be 1-1/2. Original review: Keys is the place to go if you want a lot to eat and don't really care to have the latest and greatest fad food. The food is Midwest standard fare; meatloaf, roast beef, turkey, etc. Their breakfasts, served all day, are good and filling. The Everything Omlette is delicious and easily serves two hungry people. Good for a breakfast date. They do not put a lot of salt in their food. I found this a big plus. If I need salt, I'll add it. The one exception is their soups. The soups (like almost everything else) are mostly from scratch. Generally good and filling. But occasionally, they add way too much salt for my taste. The "home-made" bread is great and they have their own special preserve as well. Seriously good stuff. The only bad aspect is the service is iffy and seems to depend on several things like time of day, phase of the moon, and the Atlantian stock market. In other words, unpredictable. I've had waitroids who were absolutely the best, and were tipped well for it. Others however spent more time avoiding the customers than serving. In one truly memorable visit, I had to call the apparent supervisor over to ask why my meal had been sitting on the service shelf for over ten minutes. The waitroid dropped it on the counter and said she hadn't seen it. A 1-cent tip for her and I didn't go back for over a year. Take my experience with a grain of salt. Then go to Keys and try the meatloaf dinner. It's yummy.

Nice place for breakfast. I like their homemade sausage. Pancakes are very large. Been reported the size of a man hole cover!! They also have Cinnamon and Carmel rolls. I prefer a Cinnamon Roll.
