Oh Grumpys. You're weird, kind of douche-baggy, and large. But your beer selection is phenomenal. AND, I just discovered you have waffle fries. I haven't really eaten anything besides fries here, so I can't judge on food. But the servers are nice, the beer is good (and even not on happy hour, the prices are reasonable). Come here if you're in the area and you need an awesome beer. And a huge plate of waffle fries for only $4.95. I shared them with 3 men. That's a big plate.

What? I had no idea there was a Grumpy's here. Well then. This is much more "sports bar" than my normal Grumpy's. It's rather huge-ish too. Solid food, good beer selection. Servers were great, bartenders were good. Big TVs and a giant projection screen. Good place to catch a Wild game. The game room area was reserved for a private party on a Sat night. That was rather off putting. Later on we made our way in there. Rebels, we are. They do karaoke too. Some may like this. I do not. We were getting ready to take off and then that pushed us over the edge. Screech your Journey songs in the privacy of your own karaoke booth or home, please.

Nice beer selection, if you don't mind bottled sometimes. Staff is quick and friendly. Wrap-around bar in the center that I recommend you sit at. Trivia on Wednesday nights is pretty serious. If you're like me, you're already at a disadvantage if you aren't local to Minnesota. There's like 60 questions too for all you trivia buffs.

Food was standard American bar fair, very eh. The beer and drink selection was mediocre as well, not to mention that many of the beers that were worth drinking inexplicably came in smaller pours. Server and staff were all disinterested and curt. The bar itself is pretty large, my group had to sit in a corner that was oddly dim. Also of note-the bathroom had some non-working faucets. I love bar trivia-but this was hands down the worst bar trivia I have ever seen and experienced. Disorganized, horrible sound system, uninteresting questions, awkward announcer guy, and trying way to hard to be funny with internet gifs and memes. The whole package falls short and then some.

I've lived within a few miles of Grumpy's for the past 10 years or so, but this was my first visit. The ambiance is energetic, comfortable, and casual. Actually I was surprised it was as nice as it is...from the outside I expected less. I ordered a Reuben (sans cheese) with tots and a Surly Furious (Hell yeah!). Everything was delicious. The corned beef was perfect, marble rye-perfect, kraut-savory/sour. It was as good as any other Reuben I've ever had...and cost like $10. Great value. The Surly was, well, Surly. My fave and a totally awesome complement to the sandwich. My son had a burger this was practically gone before I even took the time to check it out. He literally devoured it. That's a teenager for you. He said it was amazing....I'll take his word for it. He asked if we could go back every week..."No." But we will be back again for sure. My only complaint is that the waiter was a little off tonight. He was very responsive to me, but for some reason couldn't hear a thing my friend asked for and was almost rude -seeming to ignore her needs. Several times I had to get his attention and ask for a drink refill, to-go container, more water, etc...after she already asked. We will go back. Food was awesome and a great value. Can't wait to try some of the other mouth-watering items I saw coming out of that kitchen!

First the positives: Sherry, our server was friendly, attentive and on top of her game. The outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy Minnesota's 8 weeks of summer. Those two accounted for 5 stars. The food, however dragged the ratings down. Wayyyyy down. I ordered the ribs which, although advertised as "fall of the bone", was far from that. If anything, the meat clung onto the bone for dear life. They were tough, grizzly, and if they weren't coated in a thick sweet sauce would have been tasteless. My partner had chicken tenders which weren't tender. Hopefully they were chicken but there was little evidence of that. My recommendation: come for the service, drinks and patio. Run from the food.

Service at the bar is very slow and it wasn't very busy. The bartenders spend lots of time chatting with the regulars but virtually no time on other customers. They didn't not mention specials so I had to ask. 1/2 price pizza is a good deal! Glad I asked. The beer recommendation was spot on. Nice variety of local brews. Thumbs up there. Several TVs so that's nice but they are almost all on the same channel. 2 TVs on the Stanley Cup and the rest on a boring Twins game. C'mon now! The pizza is ok and probably priced just right at 1/2 off. If I only wanted slow service and a good selection of local brews I would give Grumpys more stars. The food and lack of good customer service makes this place a solid 2 stars.

Good bar food, excellent selection of tap beers (micro and macro). Fair prices. Can get a little loud for the night crowd, but for lunch/dinner, it's a solid choice. Burgers and wraps are both high on the list, as well as the breakfast sandwich (eggs with your choice of breakfast meats). Lots of choices for potato sides: tots, fries, waffle fries, baked, etc. If you need to rent a large room, they can provide a private room with a private bar. They do this VERY well!

Here on Friday night with a group of friends. Bar was hopping, not not crowded. Server got to us quickly, and checked in often. Cocktails were good, so were their prices. Beer was great! Tater tots were fantastic! Happy hour is amazing, daily specials. Lots of fun going in with karaoke, bean bag games, pool, darts, other stuff. Good for small to big groups. Go elsewhere for dates.

I was in the mood for a salad so got the Caesar which I always think should be pretty easy. However for $8 I expect a good salad, where I got a fairly small portion, the dressing was bland, and the croutons were the cheap bulk croutons with little to no flavor. The lettuce was wilty, and needless to say I was thoroughly unimpressed. I have been here before too maybe a half dozen times, and every time I come here (I only go because other people pick the place), I am reminded of how bland their food is. Fortunately the service is good, so I give it two stars because of that.

Quite the interesting spot. This place was recommended because it served both chicken and pizza, so we picked this fun spot because of my choosey tastebuds. The location is unique in that it's got a bit of everything. Swanky bar area for those who like that situation. The dining room has the woodfire oven in eyeshot. We sat in a nice corner booth next to the fireplace. Seems to seat quite a few. The menu is HUGE! And they did have chicken and pizza! So fun! We all shared a Cheesey Garlic Bread appetizer. My last Minnnesota Cheesey Garlic Bread experience was terrible at another establishment, but Grumpy's stuff was awesome! Extremely fresh cheese just oozing all over, with the bread being perfectly crunchy even with the amount of cheese on each piece, no sogginess! I opted for chicken instead of pizza, though a woodfire pizza was certainly tempting! The order did have decent sized portions and was rather tastey. I opted for the "Steak fries" option for my side and they had fries/potatoes in seemingly every cut imaginable. These were lightly seasoned with just a bit of a kick. Yummy. Prices were on par for anywhere in the Cities. Nothing outrageous. The waitress was extremely polite, bordering on "bubbly" if you will and got all of our orders correct. Service was a TAD slow, but nothing terrible. Such a great and interesting place that literally has something for everyone. Huge recommendation from me for this place.

Dropped by Sunday around noon. Lets start with the good... they have a solid patio. They make a good burger... and ? That's about it. This, unfortunately, encompassed everything that could go wrong with a visit. Lets start with the ordering process. We have 5 people at the table. Our waitress gets the order from 4 people, and then turns to the next table to take their order. Skipping the person she is literally standing right behind. We had to get her attention and tell her "you missed a person in our party." She apologized and took his order. We ordered the chilli cheese fries as an app, I ordered a basic breakfast (eggs, hash, bacon and toast) with 3 cakes. The woman ordered a burger and fries. I knew the burgers are good, seeing how I go to the DT location on occasion. However, I was interested in trying the breakfast they serve. Everyone else ordered their stuff, but I can't remember what they all ordered. Naturally, our party of 5 couldn't get a water pitcher refilled, so on three separate occasions I went inside and asked the bartender to refill it for me. App comes out after a solid 15 minute wait, and the runner has a bewildered look without any idea who ordered it. Thankfully, I spot my meal from my seat and flag him down to deliver it. It's fries and what seemed like day old chilli, that lacked any real flavor. I mean, think the lowest grade chilli you can think of... some beans, a bit of hamburger, and tomato paste. That is it! To compile things, our dishes then start to arrive after 2 bites. Hash browns, under cooked, and a total mess. You know how hashbrowns should look. A crunchy top and bottom, nice and gold or orange... No such orange or gold here. It's like they fucked it up, mixed it together, and plated. Bacon was over cooked, and brittle. One of my over easy eggs was busted, and both were cooked nearly hard. My toast was cold. Pancakes lacked any decent flavor, and had no hint of anything besides being maybe bisquick. On the flip side, the woman's burger was ok. Oh yeah, and we had the wrong checks delivered to everyone. Meh, they tried I guess? Yeah, no thanks on a repeat visit here or trying their breakfast again.

Slow service, bad food and in a place that is a terrible atmosphere. Stopped in for a late lunch, and the service was abysmal. I was not nearly as interesting as the other servers to my server, and apparently I was not worth the effort to the cook. Beer list is touted, but it is pretty limited and much of what they have is crappy. I won't be returning.

Two Grumpy's lay before me, and I- I took the one less traveled to. Pretension aside, this is your standard bar food type setup. Great outdoor patio seating that can accommodate large groups (not that there is anything particularly scenic to view outside, but can you really beat being out in the open air in the summertime?). Inside, there is the bar area with spacious bar stools and tables, and the restaurant area with booths. There is music playing in the background, but not too loud or memorable, so this seems like a great place to have a casual conversation. I'm used to there being a certain level of dress code in places like this, so when I trounced inside in my gym shorts and flip flops I experienced a little trepidation about having to change first. But, what do you know, I barely merited a second glance, and I was on my way. Grumpy was not living up to its name (no grumpiness experienced, whatsoever) I quickly skimmed the menu items - probably about 5 pages long. You got your apps, your sandwiches, and your burgers for the most part. I went with the Cuban sandwich that came with your choice of a potato-y side (I went with the tots). Sandwich was huge, and even for me, couldn't finish it! The bread of the sandwich was no great shakes, and even with the ranch dressing it was a little bit on the dry side. Drinks were cheap. Service was friendly and prompt; they kept track of the different orders and drink items even as people in my group arrived at different times. No complaints there. All in all, if you're in Roseville, looking for a bar, looking for a casual get together for a group, this is your place. Otherwise, if its date night, I'd recommend taking the missus (or mister) someplace else.

Grumpy's got it all. They got tater tot hot dish? Yeah, sure, you betcha. At least for the time being, Grumpy's is replacing Stout's as my go-to after work bar. Much more to keep you entertained. Grumpy's has two pool tables, two dart boards, Big Buck Hunter HD, Golden Tee and pull tabs. Stout's ain't got none of that. The menu is also much more extensive at Grumpy's. Kicked my co-worker's ass on the pool table the last couple times we were here. No such luck tonight. Lost on the rubber match when we were both down to just the eight ball. Can't win 'em all. Time to eat. After having Asian buffet for lunch, thought about getting a salad or something on the healthy side of things for bar food. Aztec Chicken Salad...maybe. Bleu Bayou Salad...perhaps. What else they got? Flip the page. Oh wait, tater tot hot dish. Its got vegetables in it. That means it is healthy, right? It hit the spot anyways. To top it off tonight, the Gophers beat the Hoosiers on the gridiron on a bullshit turnover with about about twenty seconds left in the game. Well, I'll be damned! There's a Gopher in my pants, and his name is Carlos. M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A! Go Gophers! Off to Wisconsin to beat the hell out of some punks from Fon du Lac!

I had never been to Grumpy's but heard about it from a few friends so I was always curious to try it (now I question whether they meant this particular one or the one in NE). When the Groupon deal popped up over the summer I figured that would be a good reason to finally get down there. Our friends also purchased one so we decided to share. Our first visit was in the summer and we sat out on the patio. There were other people sitting outside but it definitely wasn't crowded by any means. It took awhile for our server to come and it didn't seem like she was in the best mood, but whatevs. We got our drinks and food in a timely matter. My friend and I ordered burgers (I got the bleu cheese one with tots), while our husbands ordered sandwiches. I believe my husband got the Hell on Wheels and complained the meat was dry. Overall it wasn't bad (I would have given that visit 3 stars). We went again yesterday after noticing the Groupon would be expiring in a few days. The bar was packed so we picked a booth in the restaurant area. It started out fine enough, our waitress came and took/delivered our drink orders very quick. Once she took our dinner orders, we literally never saw her again until we got our check. It took awhile for our food to get to us (we arrived at 6pm, didn't get our food until 7:10), and by that time our drinks were empty and no one had checked in on us. I noticed the tables around us were suffering similar plights. When our original server finally came back, she apologized and said it was so crazy since apparently everyone was also using their Groupons before the deadline. Understandable I suppose, but I find it hard to believe she couldn't have checked in on us one single time during the 45 minutes we didn't see her. She didn't visit any of her tables in our section at all. Seeing as how almost every review on Yelp mentions the terrible/slow service, I shouldn't have been surprised. Their one saving grace was the decently priced beers. Surly Smoke was on tap which was awesome. There was also free wifi, so I was able to browse on my phone while we waited...and waited. Sadly for them, we won't be coming back. Even if I see another Groupon deal!

I recently went to Grumpy's for a work meeting. We sat outside which was nice, there is a lot of room and the tables are covered. The service was ok, not great, but good enough. The food though was awesome! I am vegetarian so I was happy to see that you could substitute a fake chicken or burger for any of the sandwiches. I had the cheeseburger and it was really good. The tater tots were great as well. I will most definitely be back!

I haven't yet eaten at Grumpy's although given the feedback from other reviews I think I will soon! I've only ever been here on the Karaoke nights and although I'm not really a fan of Karaoke, this was a pretty impressive and professional event with some really good voices being showcased. It was definitely a step up from your average Karaoke (probably because most of the people taking part weren't blind drunk). What first struck me about this place was how big and open it was. It seemed more like an office complex than a bar/restaurant but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. The bar was the main feature of the complex with an assortment of tables and seating areas located around it. It was a Saturday night and pretty busy - not too busy but just enough for a good atmosphere. The beers here are great. There is a really good selection at hand and the prices are very decent too. As I said I didn't get a chance to try any food but I've heard good things. The service we had was fast and friendly.

I like to stop by Grupmy's on Tuesdays and Saturdays for karaoke. They have a raised stage, fun lights and lots of songs! I also like that they have lots of tvs with all the games on! The decor and staff at Grupmy's is retro - Hipster - chic . . . Really cool. I don't like beer, but they have a large selection of unique brews. Their menu is fun and they serve breakfast (until 3pm?) On weekends.

Sat at the bar and got multiple rounds of drinks, apps and dinner. All 4 of us work in the service industry; we are polite, patient and love to take care of good people in the industry. Worst. Service. Ever. Will not ever be back.

Have been here twice since my original review and had good bar food both times. Love that they have Thousand Hills beef on their menu, as I am particular about my meat and this is a company I look for on a menu. The last time I was here (a week ago) there were 8 of us at lunch hour and we got immediate seating and our waiter was fantastic. Very happy with the service and the food was really enjoyable. Would not hesitate to come back again.

I was visiting Minneapolis last week, and in my training class, one of the other students said "Let's go to Grumpy's, I hear that's vegan-friendly!" I'm always super happy when someone chooses to do some of the research for me, and so I gladly went along, hoping for greatness. Sadly, this is not what I experienced. The "Cream of Meat" box art on the walls should have been a decent indicator of what I was in for. I'll give the...ahem...highlights, if you will: * This is a meat-eater's paradise and it is not particularly vegan-friendly. * As mentioned in a different review, this is more like an over-sized sports bar, which went completely against what I had been expecting based on the company's web-site. This particular location is NOT a cool restaurant or bar, and a lot of the "Grumpy's" atmosphere is completely lost. If you want a true Grumpy's experience, go to another one of the older restaurants. Then again, if you are looking for a sports-bar like any other sports-bar, step right up. * Portions are huge. The waitress was kind enough to bring out a half-order of tater tots (not fried in a separate fryer, by the way - so these are NOT vegan) which was HUGE. A full order would have been the size of my salad plate, which is about the size of a Frisbee. HUGE. * My salad, as mentioned, came on the large plate, and was loaded with every salad-related veggie known to man. Unfortunately, the only salad dressing available which was vegan was oil and vinegar. Boring. * They brought out a dry baked potato (as I ordered), but for some reason, it tasted like it had been cooked alongside something non-vegetable. Most likely cooked on the same grill as the meat. Great. I still ate it but...ugh. * I tried a few of the fries and they weren't anything special. Oh, and the tater tots? Totally tasted like fried tots right out of the Ore Ida freezer section. If I had accidentally ordered a full order, I would have cried tears of sadness, and probably sent them back, as they kinda sucked. So, although the waitress tried really hard to be helpful, and knew the ingredients enough to tell me that I couldn't eat the majority of the food there, the overall experience was truly "meh" for me. Everything was a subdued, low-contrast color palette. Another review summed it up perfectly: depressing. Metal, wood, bad lighting. Deee-pressing. There were lots of TVs all around, so if you're into sports, and letting the background (and your date) fade into the background, this is a "great" place to go. The funny thing is, I talked with my co-worker after we took our trip, and asked him what his least favorite place was. I thought it was going to be Hard Times Cafe - but it was Grumpy's. Ha! If I were ever in Minneapolis again, I would try my best not to visit this location, and would instead, seek out one of the older Grumpy's locations to see how it compared and contrasted. The salad wasn't bad - but I'd have to sneak in my own dressing. I'd probably also not go to any location that didn't have a separate fryer, because I do like french fries and tater tots - just not fried alongside animal products. The dry baked potato should have not tasted like anything else other than a dry baked potato, but it did, and that made me sad. I still ate it. Ick. Overall, this is one of the few places I don't feel bad about giving a two-star review for, mainly because it wasn't just me that had a bad time, and disliked the food. In summary? It's really hard to screw up tater tots - yet they did.

Being from the east coast I forget that there are states that still allow smoking at resturants, well outside seating anyway. I had the fish and chips, nothing special. Preprocessed frozen. Cesar salad was good. The fist three beers I picked from the beer menu they were out to of.

This is a hot spot, so service is either great or poor. There is no in between. We waited for 40 minutes for a table on a Friday night at 6. And it was annoying because they had open tables the whole time, but said reservations were coming. Then the service was slow to start. And same goes for the food. Stay away from the hot dish. Any burger is going to be awesome. Also good is the tuna melt and beer batter fish.

We arrived at Grumpy's and it was packed! I was pleasantly surprised when we did not wait long at all. There is so much to choose from in the menu, a brilliant selection of burgers! I tried the guac-a-mole burger and it was delicious. It would have gotten the fifth star, however we had 3 different waiters ask is if we have been helped yet and when we said no a new one showed up. Once they finally got it figured out who was waiting on us, it was fairly smooth. Portions are more than enough, definitely left satisfied!

I have been reading some of the reviews about this place because i was so surprised at the low rating! Quite frankly the bad reviews i read were written by some people that seemed a lot more upset about other things that the restaurant... but I digress. My wife and I love coming to Grumpy's. The serving staff is always so friendly and the food is incredible bar and grill fare. Probably some of the best prepared taters (fries, tots, etc.) and one of the best beer selection around featuring some really fantastic locally brewed options. They have awesome happy hour specials, and is a great place to go either for a fun night out (Karaoke is hilarious), or just for some good eats.

When I was an undergrad, my friends and I came to this Grumpy's on a weekly basis. While not the original Grumpy's (and really not a whole lot like the other locations at all), it holds a special place in my heart from the memories of late night happy hours every Tuesday, our favorite server knowing our orders by heart, our signature shot to start the night off right. Karaoke and Bar Bingo also make this Grumpy's a bit more fun than a standard suburban sports bar, and their outdoor patio space is nice and large, with a fire in the colder winter months. Plus, this place has parking...the one and only benefit of hitting up a bar in the burbs. Where Grumpy's falls short: they offer a HUGE menu, but none of the food especially stands out. Brunch is especially disappointing, considering bar brunches are typically where it's at. It was truly almost embarrassing going there after a party last summer to find a Perkins-esque experience. Thank god for the bloody marys (which were just OK, might I add). It's not just brunch, though - Grumpy's wings used to be wonderfully spicy and complex (like, 4+ years ago) but have since become run of the mill (are these frozen T.G.I. Fridays wings now or something? blech), the drink specials used to be great but are no longer noteworthy (2-4-1s were replaced with an occasional $1 off - hardly comparable), and the service is as bland as bland can be. The servers seem agitated and snotty, the event nights are harder to come by, and the whole experience is just saddening. Last week, my friends and I spent the duration of our drinks/meal confronted with another patron's fleshy butt cheeks hanging out of his pants while he hunched over his beer at the bar. It seemed to appropriately sum up the feeling of being at Grumpy's: uncomfortable. That said, I'll still go there. It's a convenient location for my friends and I, and I have hope that it can one day return to what it was.

While out doing some shopping, we decided to stop in at Grumpy's for the first time because my wife said it always smelled so good when she drove by. We walked in to self-seating, found a nice booth for the two of us, and our drink order was taken very quickly, then we looked over the variety on their menu. I settled on trying a Juicy Lucy and criss-cut (waffle) fries. Everything came out of the kitchen quickly, and the spiced sour cream with the fries was excellent, bun for the burger was soft and fresh and had been browned/warmed as well. We even got to watch a little bit of the Packer game, which is unusual for us this time of year because the Pack doesn't make it on TV if the Vikings play at the same time. So that was a plus as well, and we might make it a habit to swing by on Sundays to catch some of the game here, too. Only issue we had during our visit was a handful of noisy, out-of-control kids that were being mostly ignored by their parents as they roamed around playing in a wide swath around their table. But that is up to the parents to keep their kids in check. We'll be back for more, as there is a lot more on the menu to try! The Juicy Lucy was tasty, but the cheese didn't really ooze like some other places. It was a good burger, just not the best Juicy Lucy I've had, but I'll gladly try a bacon cheeseburger next time.

THE MENU IS HYSTERICAL !! AUTHOR AUTHOR...... Reading the menu is entertaining, and so many good selections to choose from!! What is a girl to order ?? Hmm, ok, above average teriyaki wings and a French Dip, sans cheese. Damn, I wish I would have gotten the cheese. Still good beef, and baby, I KNOW my beef. Hallelujah ... deep fried TATER TOTS... how can anyone pass that up? Unless you fire up your fry daddy at home (too much work) you bake the frozen ones from the grocery store. Just ain't the same. So thank you Grumpys for being part of the TATER TOT revolution trending in so many restaurants right now. The tater tot casserole is just the icing on the cake. And yes, there are many vegetarian items clearly listed and available. Maybe in my next life. However, I find that veggie burgers are quite good if you add cheese and bacon. Seriously. So, we know the food is way above average, what about the booze ?? Well, the bartenders seem to have an arsenal of specialty beers and liquors at their disposal in a nice centrally located bar. I even saw a bottle of liqueur shaped like the map of Italy. New to me, would have loved to read the label but the bartender kept avoiding me. Maybe because he screwed up my 3 ingredient cocktail? We were there early evening, not too many peeps at the bar, yet was next to impossible to get anyone's attention for a second round. So now we know the food is good, the bar has a good selection of spirits, but what about the venue? Spacious spacious spacious, with humongous tvs. And a plethora of games to choose from for hands on entertainment. And it seems to be clean enough. Ample parking too. So why only 3 stars?? Crappy service and attitude. The FOH manager certainly does not implement a dress code for the staff. Now, I realize it is a sports bar, but really? There is no uniformity to distinguish the staff from anyone else. Furthermore, everyone working there (that night) looked like they forgot to shower and just threw on their cleanest dirty clothes. Gross. And our server when we moved to the dining area wasn't quick and peppy like sport bar servers are supposed to be, but G R U M P Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, that;s why it's called GRUMPY'S, The staff is GRUMPY. MAYBE THE STAFF SHOULD EAT SOME T A T E R T O TS .

Played volleyball tonight in Roseville (shout out, Kev H.). It rained. Torrentially. By the end, I looked like a drowned rat in gym clothes. But, still, Grumpy's welcomed scrubby-looking me onto their patio for a sip and a burger. Drinks were reasonably priced, only $5 for a generous pour of sparkling wine. They offered other fun drinks, like booze-y shakes and cocktails for around $7. From their extensive menu, I ordered a behemoth-sized black bean burger (Southwest-ified with guac, chipotle mayo, and pepper jack cheese) served with a mound of mediocre fries (doused in ketchup, anything tastes heavenly), about $10. Service was good--handled our large group with ease and attitude-free. I suspect all the food is mediocre more or less (my veg-burger skewed slightly positive), but it hits the spot in a pinch (post-physical activity, my standards decline).

Met a friend for a beer yesterday afternoon....sat at the bar....bartender Jeff was our guy.... Haven't been here in some time....but Jeff was great, makes me rethink my opinion of Grumpy's!... Great bartender, friendly! I had ordered Sweet Child Of Vine...confusing it with another less-hoppy Fulton beer....so I didn't drink more than a few sips... Jeff and my friend were both commenting on how I wasn't drinking it....he said "you should have told me you didn't like it, I could have given you something else?" I shrugged.....he offered me another beer....I stated "it's ok".....SUDDENLY a half pint of a local Kolsch is in front of me!! Just what my palate wanted!! Thank you Jeff and Grumpy's for the tasty afternoon beer and fantastic service!!

I've been here a few times, and figured it's about time to review this. It's pretty close to work, so we've stopped in a few times to grab a bite. This last time pretty sealed the deal for not wanting to come here anymore. They pulled the bison patty from their menu for some reason (granted they have a organic grass fed local option), and their gluten free options are really poor. I ended up ordering a gluten free pizza crust, and going with the Sausage something pizza. The description of it on the menu sounded like it would be a great pizza, but when it showed up, it was just sausage on a pizza. Nothing more. Really bland. And the gluten free crust wasn't fully cooked. I get that it's not easy to cook gluten free, but felt like it could have been looked at by the line chef and realized that maybe a minute or two more in the oven would have remedied that. And the service...as others have pointed out, is terrible. We arrived a bit after 1145, and ended up leaving a bit after 1, mostly between waiting for food, and for our bill. if you're in the area, and are looking for lunch, there are many better options. If you're looking for a bar to watch "the game" in, I think this will fit the bill. Just don't go in expecting much beyond that.

After hearing positive things about Grumpy's, I was excited to finally try it on yesterday. What a disappointment! The server was friendly; however they were completely understaffed for a Saturday during tournament season. It took at least 3 hours for our lunch. We (a table of 4) sat in the bar and were amazed at the number of huge parties that came in. It took at least 25 minutes to see the waitress, as the larger parties were monopolizing her for drink refills and orders. I made the mistake of ordering the apple pie pizza for dessert only to have it not show up, TWICE! Our bill came with the dessert on it, so we mentioned it to the server who after checking on it, said that it was on fire in the oven so she had them make another one and would take it off our bill. After waiting another 20 + plus minutes, the waitress came back to collect the credit card receipts and asked if there would be anything else. At that point, we just had to chuckle and say no. The food was ok (recommend the jalapeno buttons); however it was definitely not worth waiting for 3 hours for.

When we arrived, our party of four was seated at a booth where the table was sticky. Gross. We overheard our server tell a coworker that she shouldn't have been cut, and the coworker offered to take more tables. Our server declined her help. I knew this wasn't going to be good. We asked to be resat and for a round of waters. We took the booth behind us, and ten minutes later, she finally returned, sans waters. We were beyond ready to order, but she buzzed off after taking one person's drink order. Another ten minutes passed, and she finally returned with waters and the ordered drink. She took our food order, but didn't have answers to any of our questions about the menu. She buzzed off again to place our order, and we didn't see her the rest of the night. Two people in our group were mis-charged, and the manager had to run our credit cards for us. I will never come here again.

Yikes!! If you want crappy service check out Grumpys Roseville. I was horrified by how rude and innatentive our bartenders were! On top of that one of my friends had money stolen out of her purse, and we as well as several other people in our group received what we felt were very inflated tabs. Drinking $2 beers and having a $5 plate of nachos should not have put us at nearly $70 for 2 people in 3 hours!!!! We were not given an itemized receipt and when we asked for one the bartender just walked away and never came back. They already had my hubbys card charged and ready for signature. I would not go back and I would not recommend Grumpys to other people.

I thought Grumpy's was going to force suburbanites to experience a cool bar. Instead, I walked in and saw an over-sized sports bar which bears no resemblance whatsoever to the NE or Downtown locations which are w/o question vastly superior. Pretty much just bros from college who stayed in the burbs and the girls that like them that frequent this one; I felt pretty out of place to say the least. You might as well go to any other chain bar-restaurant if you're in the area: forget Roseville if you have the option and stick to real bars in Mpls or St. Paul.

This is a big ol' bar over in Rosedale I did NOT know existed. Late night happy hour on a Saturday had some good deals on Draft Beers, and I tried some new ones! I definitely like smaller places better, they're usually more intimate, but this one had a certain charm where you didn't notice you were in a big bar. I didn't even notice there was a second story until I had already been there for a while. Very clean restrooms, and nice staff. BONUS: KARAOKE on Saturdays at 10pm. It's always fun to go and listen to people try their hardest to ruin your night! =)

Went there on a Monday night for a friend's 21st birthday. Didn't think it would be anything special but didn't think it'd be as terrible as it was. Being a Monday, it was not busy at all, but the waitress still was generally MIA and never came around for more than a minute. My friend was promised a free birthday shot that she got charged for, my other friend was charged 3 times for his tab, and on top of that, IMHO, an 18% automatic gratuity for every tab is robbery from this woman I wouldn't have given 10% to. Good food in the past is the only reason this place gets one star. Absolute fail, but I guess I shouldn't have expected much.

Probablly the best food specials in the Twin Cities. Wide selection of apps for the 2-4-1 specials. Free pizza is adequate - though its weird when you have a bunch of college students there - because they don't quite understand that free doesn't mean carry off an entire pizza to your table for yourself. Best part is going here when there is not a Vikings game on and you can litterally see any football game going on - being a Colts fan its hard to catch their games with out going somewhere. They even had Browns vs. Raiders on (No one was watching, but come on that is impressive none the less). Oh they also rid of stand-up comedy night and Joey ILO (seriously - who thought he was funny besides his parents? youtube.com/watch?v=CwpS… ), they got my business again after that . . . The only negatives are the agressive hosts for the random bar events: Karaoke, Trivia, Bingo, etc. It is acceptable for people to not play bar bingo. Also, you don't have to blair the music to dance club levels when the host is not on.

As often as I go to Grumpy's, I go more for convenience rather than pleasure. Grumps is super close to work, therefore very convenient to go to after work. Service is slow, but servers are usually friendly, and bartenders are usually pretty salty. Food is average, nothing special. Burgers, sandwiches, mini corn dogs, etc. Grumps has a pretty nice beer selection and good happy hour deals (last night I enjoyed two very large pitchers of Nordeast all to myself for $7, it was also 25 cent wing night and bingo night!) The only time I actually come for pleasure is Thursdays (after work of course) for Bingo, with the hope that I can win a Grumpy's gift certificate to pay for my beer or to win some hard cash. Did I mention that bingo is fo' free?

  • Emy F.

I don't get all the Grumpy's hate up on here. Let's be realistic, folks. You're around a mall. Your options are that you pay $10 for a burger at TGI Fridays or $10 for wings at BWW and wind up with a tummy ache, or you go to Grumpy's and pay $10 for a better selection of all of those things plus super incredible tots. It's a bar. It's a restaurant. It's huge but somehow doesn't feel huge. I've enjoyed everything I've tried there, I've always found the servers to be helpful, and I'm not in an Applebees. Up the stars, kids. Up the stars.

Holy cow! The previous review I had for Grumpy's is so old. I need to update, now that my guy and are are practically regulars there. There is absolutely nothing bad on the menu. The selection of beer / microbrew is stupendous! There are two "regular" bartenders, and both of them go out of their way to make a great dining/drinking/sports watching/socializing experience. The best thing on the menu is the cream cheese burger. Spend the extra money to get the grass fed beef. This is a heart attack on a plate, but you will die a happy, happy glutton!

I've been here maybe 10 times. The service was bad about 75% of the time. The food and drink specials can't be beat though, especially after 9pm on certain days. Cheers to that.

  • Sam M.

Its not as bad as all that. Unfortunately it's not as good as all that either. This is my 4th visit to this place. I thought I'd switch it up and try for weekday lunch. Although they boast a fair catalog of beers here, I opted for iced tea. I have never been happy with any of the beers served in this establishment - not one. They taste off somehow. Turkey sandwich and soup because I have a business meeting consuming my attention. The soup was good - chicken wild rice. The sandwich wasn't bad - plenty of turkey. What I did notice was a consistent theme through all my visits. The servers don't seem to know exactly what is going on. On previous visits we were served "Newcastle Brown Ale" that looked and tasted like PBR. Today it was the soup of the day. She said it was clam chowder. This puzzled us, since the menu said the soup today was chicken chili. The waitress even went off to check. She assured us that "no, it was actually clam chowder". Two of my table mates took her up on it. A cook actually ended up bringing out the food. Yep, chicken chili - clam chowder is Friday. Nope I didn't cry and the world didn't end, but I was disappointed, maybe even Grumpy.

Subtraction! Went here again for a couple of reasons - it was convenient, late and they have the room for 7 in the bar. Ordered the Aztec Salad - romaine, chipotle dressing, red peppers, black beans, corn, green onions, tortilla strips, and chicken. Here is what was in the bowl - romaine, chipotle dressing, red peppers, tortilla strips, and chicken. Hmmm, something seems to be missing, but I can't alert the server because she never comes back. I specifically ordered because of the black beans. I will not say I hate this place, but I will ask myself why I keep going back.

The service was good, the place is huge, but I'm writing about the karaoke. It is NOT the place for first timers or faint of heart. It is up an a stage, say two/three feet off the ground which can be very intimidating. Also, there are no steps or no one to help you up on said stage, so when you get drunk enough to brave going up there you are too drunk to get up there. Put up some stairs folks, or perhaps the DJ could be a gentleman and help the inebriated girls in heels.

  • Adam H.

Couple things on this doozy. The building, the old kfan, is too big. You just can't get comfortable with the high ceilings and the obnoxiously loud karaoke. Beer selection is awesome. One of the finest in the cities. That is if you even can get a beer. The service is so awful on so many levels.

Went for the Friday fish fry. Fish was good and huge four piece portion. Mac and cheese is nice and cheesy and even has bratwurst in it which was nice touch. Spinach and artichoke dip was huge and very delicious. Service was a bit slow but it was a Friday so understandable. Overall a pleasant experience

Fist time at grumpy's tonight. We had a pretty good experience. Love the beer menu. So many great MN beers to choose from. The food was inventive and creative but the taste fell flat.

Not to echo previous Yelpers, but this place is good, not great. My parents roped me in to meeting them here for Happy Hour on a Monday because my parents A) like beer and B) love a great deal. So the Domestic MN Beer specials and the BOGO apps were right up their alley. The BOGO apps also extend to the potato dishes so if you need to carbo load you can get a ginormous plate of mashed potatoes with a huge bowl of tots for one low price. We tried the: teriyaki steak bites (tasty), the buffalo wings (decent), the nachos with chicken (overcooked), and the walleye fingers or something (only had 1, fine). The mashed and the tots were run of the mill. Also got a kid's mac n cheese for the little one and she liked it ok. Very velveeta-y. I'd go again if I needed some greasy apps & a beer after a long day of work.

Went there recently for a Packers game and it wasn't our first time there but first time we got food. The food was actually pretty good. I got the NY Deli Burger with tator tots and it was mighty tasty! The only disappointment with the burger is you could tell the patty wasn't seasoned, if it would have been, the burger would have been outstanding! I never understand why a lot of restaurants don't season their burgers but anyways their beer selection was also quite large with some really good beers on tap. Our server was super attentive and courteous as well. Overall good pub food and beer!

Nope. This is the type of place that tastes and acts like every other sports bar. Mass orders food from Sysco (or the like), I'm-too-cool-for-school(literally) dudes all over, and absent servers. If you like, or need, a sports bar... go. Otherwise why bother.

Stopped by Grumpy's for lunch after shopping all morning at Rosedale for the Black Friday deals. It was great to get away from the mall crowds. The restaurant has a pretty nice atmosphere and really open floor plan. There were only a few other diners there when we stopped in. The menu mainly consists of sandwiches and burgers, and they are known for their potato selection that comes with most entrees. Potato choices include tots, fries, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes as well as some others. I ordered the French dip and was satisfied, but I've had better sandwiches. I found the meat to be a little dry and there was too much bread. I'd go back and give Grumpy's another chance. I definitely prefer it to other similar restaurants like Applebees or TGI Fridays.

The evening started decent enough... We started in the dining room at 8 for dinner and drinks. There, we were greeted by our waitress who was fairly attentive and nice. After having been in the dining room for roughly two hours, the discussion of their patio came up and we decided to move. We informed our waitress who didn't seem to be bothered, and in fact, encouraged it. We closed out with her (tipped her well), and went our way. On the patio is where the evening turned sour. I should note that we had ordered 2 pitchers prior to moving there, and were given permission to bring them out there. We were nearly finished with one of the pitchers and a half hour had lapsed before we were finished with our second. We talked for at least another 30-40 min after finishing our beverages, not once had the waitress approached us the entirety of the time we were out there. The patio was by no means busy, we were surrounded by other patrons to either side of us, and the rest of the patio had people scattered here and there. Being sandwiched between two other tables with patrons, we noticed several times in which our waitress serviced both of them, skipping us each and every time. Several times, we even witnessed her look our way, noticing the decreasing beer, lack of food, etc. and yet not once did she come to take an order. We gave her the benefit of the doubt, and stayed for a bit, but after a while it was apparent we weren't going to get serviced. A couple of additional side notes: Food specials are only in the bar/patio (one of the other reasons we moved out there, but note that we each had ordered food in the dining room). Drink Specials are available in both areas.

I figure its about time I give this place a better review! I went because one of my co-workers really wanted to go and I just went with it, not having very high expectations! However, I have found that the best place to be is at the bar- esp if you are just coming for a cocktail or 7. The bar side arena is pretty nice. The bartenders aren't afraid to pour you a stiff drink. I had the best Caramel Apple Martini from a bartender named Sean. The dinner experience went MUCH BETTER! My boyfriend and our friend met up here for dinner and it was decent. Felt a bit bad for our server since she was running back and forth! She did come back at key times ( ordering drinks and such) There was a bit of a verbal miscommunication- we wanted to order a Buffalo chicken PIZZA nnot Sandwich. But I was thrown off when she asked us what kind of potato we wanted. The sandwich was really good, she felt bad that the order came out wrong, offered to fix it and gave us a drink ticket for the next time! The menu is HUGE- something for everyone and the prices aren't horrible. Most everything is $10 and under. A few items I would like to say a few words about: The waffle fries with cheese and chili- YUM! YUM! Tried some queso dip type thing with the bread and chips- It wasn't bad, but I was expecting more dip than somewhat melty/ congealed cheese. I won't order it again.

This place is not great, but it's not bad either. The service at times can be slow, and the menu items remain slightly above par. But based on it's location, this is the best bar for a happy hour in Roseville. With the nearest competition being Old Chicago or Granite City, Grumpy's firmly establishes itself with beer and appetizer specials, and for you summer loving Minnesotans, a great outdoor patio. The happy hour runs from 3-6 ,Monday through Friday. I believe there is also a late night happy hour (9-11?), but the bar is at its most happening in the late afternoon as people leave work for the day. Domestic beers run at 2 dollars a pint which is great, and they have a good selection of tap beers which all are served at a reduced price. What goes great with beer? You guessed it, greasy, deliciously fried appetizers. These are all buy-one get-one during happy hour. My recommendation for a happy hour beer is a Nordeast, happily received on tap for 2 bucks a pop. The appetizers are all pretty good for the price, but the nachos are substantial and satisfying, closely followed by the buffalo wings and tex-mex queso rolls. I'll sum it up with this: if you're in the neighborhood and you want a cheap beer, a greasy snack, and a seat outside, go to Grumpy's for happy hour.

I want to qualify my review: We did not actually eat or drink here. We walked in, were defened by the jumpbton tvs, the high-cieling space, put off by cold, sterile surburban sportsbar vibe (and no, putting up a few hipster doofus lithographs on the walls will not counter act the overwhelming negative chi of this space) and told by the waiter that our son couldn't sit in the bar because it was quarter to 9:00 p.m. We were shown a totally empty, equally depressing and defeaning "restaurant" section and then we walk out and went to Old Chicago. At Old Chicago you could eat your pizza and watch or NOT watch the Twins game. At Grumpy's you pretty much have to relive 1984 or Brave New World with that jumbotron in your face. WTF? Grumpy's. The original bar is so laid back and fun in Northeast. One of the best bars in the cities. Even the knock off in the wharehouse district is good. But this one? Uggh. If you can not bring cool to Roseville, then don't let Roseville overwhelm the cool. Our friend, Joel Stitzel of Cosmic Slop DJs here so maybe there is some coolness then. Just make sure you don't come when there's a sporting event going on.

Such a decent breakfast joint. Not many in this area would think of it. Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. and all the local places are crazy busy. Grumpy's is nice and mellow. Too mellow in fact. They deserve more business. Plenty of parking, great atmosphere, and good prices. Fun rock-a-billy music and I really enjoyed the jalapeno bacon and creme brule french toast. Will need to come back and bring friends.

I started going to Grumpy's to watch Sunday football as it happens to be down the street from my church and really the only sports bar in short range when the pastor keeps talking and the game starts in 10 minutes. Since then I've become a regular, enjoying trivia, beer specials, and up until recently, Sunday night Bingo- which was at 9-11, then 9:30-11:30, now 10:15ish-midnight. The specials however end at 10, meaning we have to get there more than half an hour to an hour early in order to ensure we get to take advantage. I also work Monday morning so staying out until midnight is more difficult. Most things there are good- the appetizers are great, especially the nachos and walleye fingers. Tater tots are also a can't miss. I would stay away from the Chicken Queso roll things however, as we've found a bone in them before and almost broke a tooth. Many of the above comments say something about the service. What i can say is that it is definitely hit or miss. There are a few great waitresses, and then there are one or two who ruin it for the rest. With the great servers- we get continual soda/water refills, are checked up on, and never have to repeat ourselves. With the one or two misses... we wait for significant periods of time just to place an order, often having to re-order or correct something, and wait large periods of time for refills. If you get the right waitress, its a great experience. If you get the wrong one... well, just be patient, usually its worth the wait.

Stopped here last night after a comedy show, since we skipped dinner and it was just three blocks from our house. Typical bar food-but we came after nine and got happy hour. Wings and spinach dip and two sodas for ten bucks. Not bad.

This is a typical sports bar which I am usually not a huge fan of regardless the food I ordered on a couple different occasions wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing by all means. The beer was ....well it was wet and did the trick. If I had to pick a sports bar in Roseville to go to in that area I would definitely jump on Joe Sensors first.

Went here for a quick happy hour with my wife after a long day in the salt mine. We spent 10 minutes at the bar waiting for the bartender to notice that we had no cocktails. Only to learn that happy hour is now 4-6 instead of 4-7. I've been here many times with lukewarm results, most of the burgers and apps sound a lot bettter than they are. I will not be back.

There is one middle-aged Diane Chambers-wannabe female bartender who is somewhat of a battleax that expects a tip EVERY time you come to the bar for a drink. Meaning, I give her a fiver for a $4 beer, and she holds the remaining dollar as if it's hers already. Jigga what. aside from that, I dig coming to this place, esp. on weeknights. 2-4-1s, free pizza, pool tables with an actual change machine, and karaoke make for a pretty good time I drop in.

Personally I love this bar. You're right the service is iffy, the bartenders and waitresses are sassy, and it does take some time to get what you ordered...BUT...in all fairness, the name of the restaurant is grumpys. I have been a regular at the bar for about a year now, as well as my co-workers and they treat us like family when we walk in. The beer selection is amazing, and to give my option on the applebee's feel...the food is 10 times better. For it being bar food it's outstanding. They use quality ingredients, and the menu is very diverse for all taste buds. I understand the frustration with the service but in my mind the name says it all and that's why I don't expect much.

I've been coming here regularly this summer for Wednesday night trivia. Being a regular we have a regular waitress who is really on top of things and keeps the drinks coming. well i hope i can get the average rating up with this rave review. upon inspection, primarily drive by's and poking around the menu online we decided this probably was not the place 'for people like us'. burgers, weird sports bar thingy in roseville is not our optimum hang out. however after feuding this morning over the wheres of breakfast WITH a bloody mary, being awkwardly turned away at Schroeders-spl? never been here, will not be back due to the lack of morning time fair-except on sundays apparently we decided to head to roseville as we had business there anyway. lemme tell ya. it was damn good. bloody mary BAR for 4 bucks, Crispin on tap, nice lil breakfast menu and for me a rockin burger with 100% local and organic beef served to the temp i like and a fried egg on top equals kickin in my book. the server(maggie)was very honest, not hovery and very informative. i believe we will try to get back on her shifts(friday nights and sat days). not hip, weird location, but a redunculously good meal.

Pretty much just bros from college who stayed in the burbs and the girls that like them that frequent this one; I felt pretty out of place to say the least. You might as well go to any other chain bar-restaurant if you're in the area: forget Roseville if you have the option and stick to real bars in Mpls or St. Paul.

I was staying at a hotel a block down and decided to check this place out. Anywhere that had tater tots as a side is good in my book. Also, I really liked the amount of local brews.

Not bad.

(even helping out with a couple of trivia questions ;) ) The burgers, salads and tots are our usual cuisine; all of it comes quickly and delicious.

Service has always been good here. Happy hour is very good with $2 domestic (including Nordeast) and 2-for-1 apps. Good prices for the area and choices nearby.

well i hope i can get the average rating up with this rave review. upon inspection, primarily drive by's and poking around the menu online we decided this probably was not the place 'for people like us'. burgers, weird sports bar thingy in roseville is not our optimum hang out. however after feuding this morning over the wheres of breakfast WITH a bloody mary, being awkwardly turned away at Schroeders-spl? never been here, will not be back due to the lack of morning time fair-except on sundays apparently we decided to head to roseville as we had business there anyway. lemme tell ya. it was damn good. bloody mary BAR for 4 bucks, Crispin on tap, nice lil breakfast menu and for me a rockin burger with 100% local and organic beef served to the temp i like and a fried egg on top equals kickin in my book. the server(maggie)was very honest, not hovery and very informative. i believe we will try to get back on her shifts(friday nights and sat days). not hip, weird location, but a redunculously good meal.

Possibly the slowest service I have ever received occurred here. We ended up just getting one drink, leaving cash, and grabbing dinner elsewhere. It is always packed in there for some reason, though. I cannot understand why. The Grumpy's in downtown MPLS is way better, and that's saying a lot for someone who hates downtown. If you're going for a drink, sit at the bar.
