First off... I am not adventurous when it comes to food - love "American" diner style cuisine. Baker's Square is hands down my favorite for American food. And this particular location - Roseville - is the best in the Cities. Primarily because they've updated their decor and I've always received excellent service. I think they have a great menu and I consider it reasonably priced. My favorite is the grown-up grilled cheese - serious comfort food. And in all my travels across the US and Europe, I have yet to find another place that consistently serves the BEST pie. When I drive into the Twin Cities (from St. Cloud and Brainerd areas), I usually work it out so that I can hit this particular Baker's Square. It's not fine dining - it's basic, American foods served fresh and well with some of the best pie you'll find anywhere. Wednesdays are "Pie Rush" - you get a free slice of pie with your entree. So yes, it will be busy on those days but well worth the treat!

Bakers Square was a Yelp guided choice, as I wanted something simple, fast, inexpensive, and with a dessert option. To quote Norton L. quoting...I think Homer Simpson..."Two words: Mmmm... Piiiiiiiieeeee" Atmosphere - Modern, open, bright, colorful inside that differs from a sort of drab exterior, seniors, happy people, faux-home cooked meal chain. Food - This place seems best for lunch (many a sandwich choice) and of course pie. Went here for dinner and the menu was a little limited on options that were not all sauced up. Ended up getting a grilled chicken breast, sans sauce. Oh, I also ordered not one but two slices of pie. I had the waitress pick one of them. I picked the old man dessert...custard pie. I trace custard pie to depression era desserts (e.g. rice pudding, tapioca pudding, bead pudding) in that no one under 25 would ever order them. Service - Excellent! The waitress (brunette)...I need to write these names down...was helpful and even picked my second pie choice...Triple Berry. Thumbs up to (whatever your name was)!! Price - Reasonable. Bob Evan's price point. Overall - I enjoyed myself here. For price, service, and food this was an excellent pick!

Eh, just another Perkins/Denny's! I personally like it slightly better than either of them since it offers more for us vegetarians. Still though, a bit lackluster. Good for a cheap meal out while running errands on a Saturday, or if you are craving some comfort food in the form of grilled cheese and pie, yum! Service: ok, atmosphere: ok, overall...you guessed it: just ok.

I haven't been to a Baker's Square since 2003. For real. A fan of branding myself, this place has really changed its image over the years. Bright colors, cafe style, more charismatic interior. Ah, but the pies are the same. And well, all the old people still hang out there. Friends were enticed by the variety of pies (the selection has grown), but I wanted salt. The chicken cheddar melt was the perfect cure (pun intended, c'mon). It was... good. The bar wasn't necessarily set high, but I lean towards the positive regardless. The downfall of the visit was service. This location had one waitstaff and a manager to handle 30+ orders, but they did their best and food itself didn't take long once we were able to order it. The reason for this review is to refresh the image of Baker's Square in others' minds, but plastic surgery doesn't change the guts.

Like an IHOP, but with pies. Super cheap, pancakes, eggs, coffee, and OJ. What more can you ask for on the go? Definitely get a piece of pie regardless of what time it is in the day.

Salty soup and poorly dressed salads is no way to go through life. If you are thinking of stopping in here for a slice of overpriced pie, go somewhere else. There are plenty of places in the area. Heck, go next door.... The turkey in the kidsmeal was overcooked and the mashed potatoes lacked any real flavor. If you are missing the home cooked flavor of a Swanson's frozen dinner, this may be the place to go for you. The manager was very polite however and gave me several coupons for free pie when I complained, so there is that. There are definitely better places for comfort food, and their prices are remarkably high for the quality of food. ($10 for a soup/salad/pie combo)

It is what it is, a franchise. But when eight of us show up for breakfast on a Saturday morning they keep the coffee flowing and serve up a very good breakfast and don't rush us to get out. Great management and great service. We have tried some other places but nobody does old-guy breakfast better than Bakers' Square.

Chain review disclaimer: I won't do 'em. You can't make me. Well, ok. Yes, you can. But not easily. I've sworn off chain reviews because chains are supposed to be the same wherever you go. That's the beauty of a chain restaurant. So I'll only do a review if there is something out of the norm for a chain, or the particular location. This will happen if there is something unique, if they are extraordinarily good, or extraordinarily bad. So here I am doing another chain review, but this is of the extraordinarily good variety. And it applies to all Baker's Square restaurants. Two words: Mmmm... Piiiiiiiieeeee Baker's Square pies ROCK. My favorite? Pecan. No one else does it better. No one else should even try. I'm SO disappointed if I'm there and they're out. However, if they are, I usually end up consoling myself with their caramel pecan silk supreme. Out of that, too? Don't even go there. Really, though, any of their pies are good. Call early and reserve one for a holiday and be the hero for the night. Procrastinate and call too late and you'll be tarred, feathered, and locked up in the dungeon. Their regular food is no better or worse than other faux-home cooked meal chains, but if you eat a regular meal there, don't waste valuable stomach space. Save room for dessert.

This typical Baker's Square decent service, OK food, Great pie. The Roseville and Highland locations tend to have better service
