The pork had no flavor and the rice and beans tasted just weird. I was excited to have a new restaurant in the area but too bad it was not good.

Really not impressed with the food. Both times my husband and I have been there we were disappointed. The salsa was bland and the food was so-so.

This is a favorite of mine! Ryan and crew are always creating new and different Mexican dishes for your pleasure. Their staff do a great job at being welcoming and provide terrific service! They are always on my short list for lunch and I recommend trying out the daily specials.

Excellent, authentic Mexican. The home made tortillas are very good. I had the street Tacos. Very nice presentation, garnish and the tacos were excellent. Wife had shrimp fajitas and was impressed. We shared a massive bowl of the tortilla soup and that alone was worth coming here. Beautiful and very tasty. Service was excellent and friendly. My only complaint is they need clean menus and need to scrub the walls on occasion. They were both sticky and stained. We will be back!

I have been back several more times since last posting and I think this place is fantastic. I think it is priced than some hole in the wall Mexican restaurants, but I've come to realize their quality, presentation, and atmosphere is also superior. The wife and i think the owners went to culinary school or something due to their presentation.

Still need better silverware, if I'm going to use my fork to cut I don't think it not hurt my hand Had one of my best meals, chicken chimichanga, spicy variety. Still good and friendly service.

Disappointing. I'm not sure what was wrong here, but guacomole shouldn't be nearly tasteless. The chicken taco's were so-so, the pork taco's were no-no. The refried beans though were good - maybe a hint of bacon in the background - and the chips were decent too, but the core food itself was mediocre and forgetable. Hate giving bad reviews - I'd much rather of had this be a FIVE place, as it's close to home. I will keep searching for a place with good Mexican food in the area.

Gave this place another chance after a couple bad service experiences, and this time they got it right. Our server was on her game, was friendly and attentive, and our food came out very quickly. I agree they need to add some spice to the guacamole. Good value. I try to stick to the enchiladas and chimichangas because I prefer my Mexican food smothered, while the tacos are more pure meat and tortillas (if that is your thing).

So I gave this restaurant 2 more tries and I will not be going back again. Sorry but 3 strikes and you are out. There is not a single horrible experience I had here, just multiple irritating things every time I have showed up. The only consistent thing that I Had that was even decent was the cornbread. (Yes one of my 3 pops were bad)... Just cannot come back here, even for free. Sorry.

Not sure what the others are complaining about. This place has been nothing but consistent the times I have been there and I have been there a lot. If you are complaining about a $1,50 taco setup, move on. The tacos are .99 cents at happy hour. Taco Johns is just down the road and they'll include the lettuce for free- I'd rather have good than cheap/free. Mexican sweet corn is very good, salsa is workable, service has been good. Menu specials are inventive and excellently prepared. If you are looking for americanized mexican that tastes like everyone else's feel free to go to El Loro or El Azteca- you'll probably get it cheaper but not better.

Always the right amount of food, always fresh. We've catered as well and it was excellent.

  • Calvin E.

Chips and dip were good, but that's as far as I will go. I had the burrito and it was bland. There was plenty there, but not good. Wife had a taco and it was just a taco shell w/meat. No other sides or cheese/lettuce. As others have said it is not authentic...it is their unique style.

  • Douglas M.

This visit, the salsa was actually spicy-so they improved it! Service was great, fast, pleasant and professional. BUT, always ask HOW MUCH THE SPECIAL COSTS!! I had the bacon wrapped salmon special, and it cost +$22!!!!! My fault for not asking, it was good, but not $22 good.

It's an OK place. If you want cheap authentic Mexican food this is NOT the place. Prices are expensive for little Rosemount! I got three chicken tacos and the other person I was with got a chimichanga and both had waters. It was $26. The soft tortillas for my tacos are homemade and not like normal flour tortillas so be prepared. It was my boyfriend's birthday so we got a free dessert. It was amazing. Fried flour tortilla with cinnamon, caramel, strawberries, and whipped topping. Highly recommend that dessert. A side note you get chips and salsa with order - which were good.

  • Doug D.

We have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The Margaritas are very good and we love the home made chips and salsa. I usually order the chimichanga but have tried several other things on the menu and all were great. I do wish they had wifi.

This place is amazing. I eat here often. Truly everything is great, fresh and homemade. While the menu is small, the daily specials truly are special and if you don't see something on the menu, thet will usually make it special for you. Ask for the pork flautas, they are sublime.

Real authentic Mexican food with a slight Spanish fusion. The food is very tasty, good portions and presented well. Kids menu is a plus since my son does not eat Mexican, yet. I've been to this location a few times and service has always been top notch. Finally, good food in the suburbs which saves me a trip to the city. Although, food is good enough for the city to come this way too. NOTE: I noticed some bad reviews but the comments indicate they favor a Taco Bell of John's style food which I do not personally consider Mexican. So if you want AmeriMex you may just want to go through the drive through of one of those places. But if you want freshly created taco shells with well seasoned meat, hot tasty fajitas and don't forget the Margaritas then this is your spot.

I was excited to see a new restaurant in Rosemount. Unfortunately, we felt the food was just not good. The pork had no favor and sides had an usual taste.

Hmmm....Odd menu. Odd salsas. Terrific tortillas. Chimichanga was pretty good. I was there the first week they opened and there were fans all over the place with extension cords. It was strange. I think I should give the joint another shot as we need some good mom and pop spots around!

I've been to Las Tortillas 3 times. Excellent food, service and prices! The white cheese sauce is delicious.

Great service, fun atmosphere. Their happy hour specials are great. Definitely worth the drive from St Louis Park :)

This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the twin cities. We like the food and the atmosphere. Try the enchiladas or the street tacos. The kids loved the nacho grande. The service is the big stand out. It has been great every time we've had dinner there.

Our weekly "date night" location. Happy hour specials are a steal and anything on the menu is worth trying at least once. Nightly specials are always a pleasant surprise.

Went here with the family over Christmas vacation in Minnesota. Was not expecting much from a strip-mall Mexican restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised! Tasty chips and salsas, *cheap* Negro Modelo beer on tap, and delectable enchiladas. Great for big groups, too.

I've been here more then a number of times. My family and I keep going back for the great deals and the quality of the food. Pretty much everything is made fresh and is priced right. Ryan (the Owner) always stops by to check on us and talk. And we know the food is made with high standards by Richardo. I know he uses a lot of his family recipes from Mexico. Thanks Ryan and Richardo for have such an awesome place!

I was surprised by this place and so was my bf! We were hungry for Mexican after working all day on the basement but didn't feel like driving far so I yelped and this was the closest place to our house and reviews looked decent so we went. At first we totally judged the book by its cover and were skeptical. It's in a strip mall and when we walked it there were dirty tables everywhere and it wasn't clear if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait for a host. We asked someone and she said to just sit down and she'd find us. Soon someone brought menus and took our drink order. We ordered shots of patron to celebrate our progress on the basement and they were HUGE! SCORE. He ordered beef tacos and I got the chicken and shrimp fajitas. She asked if we wanted for uno or dos and we decided on dos so we'd have leftovers. Food came fast and omg. The skillet of fajitas was enormous! It was more like a quattro not a dos. The server agreed said they are awesome though, and they were! I loved that they came with corn tortillas instead of flour. They were accommodating to my request to not cook it in oil also (yay healthy choices!) And they were amazing. The rest of the menu looked great. The server said the salmon salad is also awesome, can't wait to try it. The table next to us had elote that looked really good. Also the happy hour looked promising- 99 cent tacos! Everything was delicious and we took a lot home! It was very cheap for the amount of food. I'll be back since it's so close to home!

We stopped in one weeknight after 7 pm and were surprised by how packed it was, granted there is not very much seating. We took the only two seats left at the bar and started with the elote thanks to someone's yelp photo, and it was awesome. Seriously. So, I ordered the chef's plate for myself and chose carnitas and barbacoa for my meats. Presentation was good. Carnitas were flavorless though and it was even hard to differentiate the pork from chicken . . . which I realize sounds weird but it's the truth. Anyway, I kept adding the complimentary salsa to whatever I ate to add some flavor and it helped a good deal. The barbacoa was actually worse than the carnitas, and this is mostly because it was as dry as... I don't know what, I have no analogy for this. It was just super dry. I didn't take more than two bites of that. The rice was a bit generic tasting but the refried beans were done well and I enjoyed those. To wrap this up, I began with two stars since the important parts of my entree were lame but I give three just because I still enjoyed the visit and have faith that we will have a better experience next time we stop in. Cause their chimichangas look damn good.

Last weekend we used Las Tortillas to cater my daughters graduation party and the food was fantastic. The shredded chicken was cooked perfectly and remained moist for the 3 hours we were serving. The ground beef was expertly seasoned and the cilantro rice was fresh and fluffy. Ryan and his team continue to provide excellent food, great service and a good value. We will continue to support Las Tortillas! Dean

When this place first opened, I was really worried if they would survive. Seems like we have Mexican restaurants everywhere... And most don't last long. But Las Tortillas has surprised me... In a good way. The menu selection is very thoughtful and precise... They don't try to be everything. The street tacos are fantastic and you have multiple meats to choose from. The quesadillas are unique and worth a try. And the margaritas are good when you're in the mood. I highly recommend this restaurant... The prices are good too.

First thing our party of 12 had to wait around an hour for a table. This was my first time here. I ordered the Coronarita which is a house margarita with a 7 oz corona bottle put upside down in a margarita glass. I did not like this at all but felt I had to finish being it was over $12. It tasted watered down. For the meal I ordered Mexican sweet corn which was grilled and flavored with lime and chipotle seasoning and white Mexican cheese. This was very good. My son ordered a chicken burrito which he liked. My entree was house special with 2 meats. I ordered chicken which was bland and pork carnitas which was flavorful. Included was lime rice, refried beans and 3 small tortillas. Garnished with radishes and cilantro. Service was spotty but we were a group of 12. Next time I go I will probably go during happy hour and order something besides chicken. This was my first time here and the place was busy.

By far my new go to Mexican Food restaurant. This place is awesome. I believe the owners name is Ryan and he is fabulous. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The food is authentic and always fresh. I have a very picky eater, 22 year old son, and be even enjoyed it and will go back. Try it you won't regret it.

Our server was attentive but got our order wrong. Her solution was to give us different sauce for our enchiladas which meant scrapping off the old sauce and toppings and adding the new sauce. Not exactly what we were looking for. The food was OK but somewhat bland and not inspired.

End Of The Road? Not So Fast! It was about two years ago when my wife and I decided to stop into a new Mexican restaurant that had just opened up in Rosemount called Las Tortillas Mexican Restaurant. Everything they made was far too Americanized and they even served french fries with their meals. Maybe the owners were listening to Boys II Men when they opened the doors for the first time, because I had no time for them to be playing with my heart AND mind. Our first experience really was not a good one and decided to never step foot in the restaurant again. We could find better authentic Mexican food that we're always looking for elsewhere. After 2 years of saying no, we decided it was time to give them another try. What changed? It helps when your parents tell you,"We just had an amazing catered dinner from there and you might want to give it another try!" So, with a slight hesitation, we entered Las Tortillas for just the second time in a very long time. We sat down, received chips and salsa like every Mexican place offers and after the first bite, I wanted to drink the salsa, it was that good! So far so good, right? My wife and I both decided to order the Trio Taco Combo and between the two of us, we had; 2 beef tacos, 1 beef pastor, 1 pork, 1 chicken and 1 chorizo. As soon as we saw those tacos, we were already smiling knowing they looked completely different. We both went right for the pork and I am happy to say, they rock! Pushed those to the side (gotta' save the best for last) and started in on the chicken. Again, outstanding! Next was the chorizo and again, they were yummy. Started on the beef pastor and still had a smile on my face. Finally, like most places, plain beef is plain beef, often a little dry, but at last here they were edible with some fixings. Although we though we were going to come to the end of the road and we were ready to let go, I'm glad we decided to give them another shot. Now, I don't have to head north into St. Paul for my taco fix, I have a place right down the road. I just have one thing to say - don't order the fixings if you want an authentic meal and please Las Tortillas, don't change a thing. You've got us hooked with what you're serving your patrons now and we'll be back for more, especially that outstanding salsa! Maybe I'll forgive me Las Tortillas, hmm - Maybe you'll try - We should be happy together, Forever, you and I! :)

My wife and I love this place. The fajitas are excellent, and the burritos are really good too. It's a great place to get together with friends. We typically get about 2 to 3 families together and all pile into the restaurant with our kids in tow. It's a great scratch kitchen!! So if you have dietary restrictions, just talk to your server - They're willing to make anything. The service is always friendly!!

Review title: "Chimmey my changa" Small, low key and fragrant. Walking through the doors you can smell the shredded and marinated chicken, cilantro lime rice and Mexican spices. The chimichanga is huge. It is fried perfectly and loaded woth chicken, a spicy sauce and peppers. It is covered with a delicious white and creamy sauce and sprinkled with cilantro. The rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I can never finish it. My boyfriend had the quesadillas and they were loaded with chicken, cheese, peppers and onions. Lightly grilled homemade tortillas. I had a la casa margaritas to top it off. It was perfect. Highly recommended.

I still feel this is one of the best mexican restaurants in the Twin Cities and better yet it's south of the river!! Fresh Mexican food not in the tex-mex style!

Las Tortillas is one of our favorite restaurants, both for us and the kids. You get started with warm, freshly cooked and lightly salted fresh corn tortilla chips paired with a delicious, fresh salsa. Then, you get to choose from several delicious options. I recommend the corn to start. For a meal I almost always get the blackened fish tacos, soft shell, with black beans (wonderfully seasoned) and cilantro lime rice. I have physical cravings for these several times a month and I have never been disappointed. Consistently fantastic. To finish, you can't beat the cornbread. And it's all reasonably priced, especially given the fresh ingredients and friendly service.

Stopped in here with my kids on a whim since we were in the area... And I am glad we did! The food was great, I had a cheese/veggie enchilada and was impressed with how fresh it tasted. The house made tortillas were to die for! My kids had cheese quesadillas, which were also very good. The salsa was great too and I appreciate the extra cilantro. We do not live in the area but would definitely come back. I thought the prices were reasonable... Nice to see kids meals under $5 again!!

Fantastic food! The taco bar on Friday for lunch was outstanding, great variety and fantastic taste! I came back a few days later and had the Taco Salad outstanding! I love this place!

I was referred to go her by a co-worker. I ordered the Mexican corn and kids chicken tacos ( it was very nice of them to allow me to order off the kids menu as I wasn't very hungry and wanted to get the corn) My boyfriend ordered the chicken chimichanga. We thought the prices were a little steeper for the amount of food you get than the average mexican joint. Guess you can't beat El Loro's prices! The salsa they brought out was very spicer in my opinion. 1. The corn was very good but they put a lot of the red spice which I assume was cayenne pepper so it was very spicy and I had to rub most of it off which in turn rubbed a lot of the yummy queso cheese off. It was also kind of messy with the burnt husk at the end falling all over. 2. I ordered the kids chicken tacos they brought me beef tacos so I don't know what happened there but I didn't say anything. I really liked the homemade shells and put some of the cheese from the corn on them. 3. Brian's Chimi was good but very spicy. Overall Everything was spicy but I would go back for the corn and ask for it without the red spice.

Just made another stop to this place. Service always good. Wanted nachos for one but that't not possible. The platter serves 2-3. Good chips, real cheese, and a sprinkling of sliced jalapeno for heat. Very nice. Also (again) have to recommend the Puerco Verdes stack of tortillas, perfect pork, green sauce and fried egg. Excellent!

First Things First: Excellent Margaritas! They are good and strong! My Boyfriend and I live in the South Metro and were looking for a fun and easy going place for Valentine's Day, which is also his Birthday. I looked for some places in our hood and stumbled upon Las Tortillas. Before making a decision, I read through the reviews on Yelp and was a bit discouraged but decided that I needed to check this place out myself! After all, I totally love Mexican food and figured that even if the food wasn't great--the Margaritas would make me happy! Las Tortillas is casual--and it has an open kitchen to the dining area. As soon as we walked through the Door, the Bartender greeted us from the bar and another person soon seated us shortly after. We decided to sit at the bar versus a table--which was just as comfortable. From THE moment we walked in, the Bartender was extremely attentive, funny, and entertaining. He learned our names and made conversation with us despite being busy. If anything, i would definitely return just to kick it with this guy--he was fun! Now to the food. I am extreme about Mexican food and this place had it's up's and down's. I really enjoyed their salsa--it was fresh and perfect. For dinner, I had a couple of tacos with chorizo and a cheese enchilada--which was a la carte. When I received my food, they gave me the full taco order--instead of partial...but they quickly realized their mistake and made sure we weren't overcharged! The tortillas were fresh and the tacos were perfect. I wasn't a huge fan of the red sauce on the enchiladas and probably wouldn't order them again. You can't really go wrong with enchiladas so I was a bit disappointed in them overall. We didn't order desert but our Bartender ordered it for us anyway...maybe because it was Valentine's Day or my BF's Boyfriend--regardless, it was great! It was a fried tortilla with vanilla ice cream and caramel. Which was just perfect :) All in all, I'm glad I tried the place out for myself...we had a really fun time. The customer service was top notch and the environment was everything we wanted in a small restaurant in the burbs. We will definitely be returning!

Excellent Mexican food! Order Ricardo's Special with the beef and pork. So tasty! And the margaritas are great. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
