Great place to enjoy beer on tap, friendly wait staff and awesome food. I had the veggies and Hummus as an appetizer. I tried the coco mole Porter and loved it!!! And I normally do not like dark beer.... It was incredible. For dinner I had the hot and spicy pizza. I topped it off with a decadent cupcake. Mmmmmmm!!! I'll be back when I visit Rochester again.

New spot in Rochester. I had a pear, gouda and bacon toastie. It was delish. Everything on the menu looked so good, it was hard to choose something!

The food is really good here. We had the pretzel appetizers which are some of the absolute best pretzels I've ever had. We also had the pear and gouda toastie wroth bacon which tasted great. And the B.M.W. (bacon maple waffle) which was super rich and super delicious. A must have! I also enjoyed the Irish coffee, and I felt their mixed drinks were reasonably priced. I will definitely come here again to try some more on the menu! The staff is really friendly and encouraging. The atmosphere is great: good music, but not to load, a Ms. Pacman machine, which only costs $0.25, a great full bar, and a well lit dining area with plenty of seating.

Deep beer lists boasts many hard to find delights, particularly of the old world variety. If that weren't enough to get you here, the food is tasty (try a toastie) and the cool staff is warm and friendly.

Really enjoyed selection of Belgian brews both on tap (try the Maredsous Brune) and in bottle (Affligem). Started off with great hot pretzel sticks and a tasty personal cheese plate. Delicious "hot & spicy" pizza with fresh cut jalapena peppers and sausage, with a crushed red pepper sauce. Finished the meal with an outstanding dessert with a spice cupcake with a speculoos (think Biscoff cookie flavor) frosting. Servers were very attentive owner husband-and-wife team. Surprised by complaint of ambience in other review. This is one of the nicest pubs in town (if not the nicest) with very comfortable, warm, and engaging furnishings.

I was excited to try this place, but it turned into a total let down (maybe we came in with too high of expectations?). The service left a lot to be desired and we weren't very excited about the appetizers either. We came for dinner, but never got that far as our waitress disappeared on us after we had ordered our appetizers, and only swung by to steal a menu to give to another table faster than we could even notice she had been there. No refill on pop, never asked if I wanted another Bunny or another beverage... About 30-45 minutes later she appeared with our appetizers and finally asked if we wanted to order dinner - but at that point we had already had enough of the Thirsty Belgian and decided to eat & move on for the main course. Disappeared once again... Never checked in to see how the appetizers were, we finally flagged down another waitress who happily cashed out our check. I get that it was busy - but com'mon... On to the food/beverages... The Bunny Mary was excellent! If I ever end up back there, I will definitely be ordering another! The appetizers were overpriced & just meh. I liked the pretzel sticks, but they weren't anything special. The sausage flight was a sad sight - 3 small pieces of a cut up brat, 4 small pieces of a cut up hot dog, another small portion of some sort of salami, a cut up smoked hard boiled egg, and a bunch of pita bread - nothing tasted bad, just not what we were expecting. My dining companion has vowed never to return, and I'd come back if I were with others that really wanted to come, but I wouldn't be the one suggesting it and it wouldn't be my first choice. There are definitely much better places in town.

This place hit the spot with us. We both had the soup of the day (bean, bacon, ham) and I added the salad special of the day and my partner had the personal pan pizza made with a naan crust. Waitstaff great, space small but comfortable. Highly recommend.

My wife and I have visited four times and we like the place for its ambience and convenience. This is, first and foremost, a small beer pub. It has a great selection of beers and features (as its name suggests) Belgian brews. It can be crowded and noisy because it is small, but the owners and servers are friendly, the bar food is decent (mostly panini type sandwiches -they call them toasties- and appetizers). Because it is on the South side it works for us because it is the closest place with any real atmosphere near our home. It is not a place I'd recommend for families or for a regular dining out meal. It's a pub, and it lives up to its name quite well. Thus, it is one of the places we stop by to unwind and have a beer and a light lunch or snack, and for this purpose it works splendidly. If you expect something else, you'll end up complaining about the food, the ambience, and service. As for us, we intend to be frequent customers.

I've only been here once. I came in to try it by myself. It was pretty busy. The waitress took a long time to come check on me throughout my visit. She was chatting up the other customers. I guess you're not important if you're there solo and if you're not drinking alcohol. I tried a pizza which was ok and a cupcake. That was delicious but I wondered how fresh it was. And the prices were horrendous.

A fantastic addition to South Rochester. The Thirsty Belgian has a very intimate and personal atmosphere thanks to the amazingly personable owners and staff. Rotating tap lines featuring Belgian Ales and Tripels, as well a line or two reserved for those with more local tastes buds. The kitchen features a selection of panini type sandwiches as well as artisan personal pizzas. Make sure to try the signature crust, and save room for a locally made premium cupcake.

Nice place. Small and quiet. Great selection of craft beer, good appetizers and desserts. If you're looking for a loud/rocking place with a large crowd, this is not it, but if you're looking for a smaller, more intimate spot, this is it.

I was here yesterday with my family for an early dinner. The Ham and Turkey sandwich (with Gouda, naturally) was perfectly done, the beer was good, the server was very friendly, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. It did smell just a tad off inside, but it did not detract from the overall experience. I highly recommend this location.
(4)Eli L.
They have a good menu and a fine selection of beers and whiskeys, but my toastie came burnt as hell and a whiskey came with cork floating in it. If they paid a little attention to detail, this would be a good place. I did not enjoy myself.
(2)Susan F.
Great food. Grilled ham and cheese perfect and not greasy. Place was packed, people standing around waiting to be seated as is quite small. A downside is that we were right by the door and temp was 18 degrees with below zero windchill and cold rushed in right where we sat. Also server started clearing table before we got our change back. Good food and wine. Very crowded and noisy.
(3)Emily N.
The owner and waitress were friendly. It was fun to go to a Belgian restaurant. They have many different beers to try and the soup and sandwiches were good.
(4)Bill W.
Go for the beverages and food, not for the ambiance. Several friends and I were there tonight for the first time. A couple of them were beer aficionados and were very impressed with the beers they had and the variety they carry. Others of us, including me, had cocktails and we all were very happy with our selections. Their food menu has a wide variety of appetizers and entrees. We had the pretzels, the sausage plate and the Gouda cheese plate. All were extremely good. The staff is very friendly, efficient, and attentive! I highly recommend this new place!

I had heard that this place was excellent, but was let down with the experience I had. The staff were friendly, however that just didn't make up for the slow service & overpriced pizza we had. The pizza was good, just not nearly worth what it cost.
(2)Steve F.
The owners are the most pleasant people. They make you feel at home and welcome. The beer is great and the selection different but interesting. I had the continental sandwich and really enjoyed the unique flavor. The cole slaw is very unique but a joy to a persons pallet. I strongly suggest you visit and try their fare.
(4)Luke M.
I love the beer selection and think the location is nice for hitting up a few shopping locations and then grab a burger and a beer. I love the high top tables and wait staff is nice!!!
(4)Morie G.
Very good beer selection and not over priced. Pizza on naan was delicious. We plan Togo back. Very modern decor not overly noisy
(4)Billy Y.
I've been here on three or four occasions. It really feels special in terms of beer selection. The Bartender fellow is quite good as well as some of their waitstaff. On one occasion service was slow. The food is a little overpriced. The pizzas are decent but not impressive. The best thing in the menu is their pretzel appetizer and some really rich and strong mustard. Overall this place has some great potential. Improve the flavors of the food and enlarge the portion sizes to push the place into a dinner destination as well as a really great bar for beer.
(3)Rob D.
This place really hit the spot. I had the pretzel sticks to start, and then the Pear & Gouda Toastie (add bacon for $1.50 ... worth it.) The food was very good, and paired well with an IPA. As a twin cities beer-geek, I was impressed with the brew selection and I found the atmosphere very quaint and comforting. (I.e. : 89.3 the Current on the speakers, and not too loud, some obscure tv show on 1 tv, and a sporting event on the other, etc.)

Belgian Monks are some of the best beer brewers on the planet and this pays homage to them with a great Belgian beer selection. I had the Ovila Abbey Saison on tap (actually made in America) served in a proper glass. Very refreshing and a great pairing with my Continental Toastie. Ended with a bottle of Duvel Tripel Hop and a piece of cheesecake. Prices are reasonable. This is world class beer so it's going to be a little more expensive than a local craft. Don't be put off by the location. Inside is very nice and clean and I love the rustic wood tables. My server Julie (one of the owners) was super nice and attentive.

I enjoyed it here with my friends. They have very good tripels and belgian style ales and good bar food too.

Great new spot in Rochester. Cool atmosphere and great beer selection. Given how hard it is to find a good craft beer and food at the same place it's a welcome addition to SE Minnesota. I had the pear and Gouda panini type sandwich with bacon on rye - and it rocked. This is a good casual place to grab a beer and bite after work or catch up with friends. They could use a little more wait staff and beer prices were a little high but overall I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys exotic beers and creative, gas topic type food
(4)Jen R.
Had their minestrone soup. It was good, not the best I've had. I could taste the beer in it. So if you like beer in your soup you should love this. I enjoyed all the veggies in it. Next I had the Buddha pizza with Canadian bacon instead of sausage with Gouda cheese on top. Dear lord this pizza was amazing. Will come back just for the pizza. I also had a Moscow mule. They served it in a cooper cup. I had heard this makes the drink taste bette. They were right, so so right. Ended the meal with the Belgium chocolate cupcake. Very good! They don't get 5 stars because the service was soooo slow. Two people at our table ordered salads. They received their food last. But the cook did come out to apologize to us. Said he had made the wrong salads and had to make them again. Food was great! Server was polite but slow. Will come back.

I can't believe I missed this hidden gem in Rochester! Don't get me wrong, it's still a bar-in-a-stripmall, but it is my new charming neighborhood joint. The staff are casual but knowledgable. The ambiance is what you expect from a bar in a stripmall--but you don't come here for the ambiance. They have an AWESOME selection of Belgian beers on tap. Whenever I go, I get the Kwak. They even have the special glasses that it's supposed to be served with! Hands-down, their Gouda Buddah pizza is the best item on the menu. All of their pizzas are made on naan flatbread. My only disappointment with this place is that it's on the other side of town from my house!
(5)Jonny C.
Best place to get a beer you have never heard of! Love the personal pizza options. Always great soup and sandwich options! My favorite is the Maredsous on tap with a Gouda Buddah pizza
(5)Mike W.
Fell in love with Belgian beer in Brussels. Have not run into a bar with as good a selection until now. The Thirsty Belgian is well named and executed. Absolutely stunning tap selection. Haven't had food but the appetizers are to die for.

Okay, it's in a strip mall, but it's really a great little pub. Tons of amazing beer choices with most being various Belgians. Menu is simple but nice; flatbread pizzas, grilled sandwiches, pretzel breadsticks, hummus and a few others.
(5)Mandy R.
So very excited to frequent this bar and restaurant more. Was hard deciding what to eat with so many delicious sounding items! My husband is the beer drinker and I can't wait to hear what he thinks of the beer menu! Great atmosphere, good service, highly recommend!
(5)Mark A.
Excellent food (pizza was smokey And creamy). Amazing pancake cupcake dessert. Definitely coming back.
(5)Jennifer H.
You wouldn't expect to find such a gem in a strip mall. The atmosphere is low key and comfortable, and unlike in many bars you can have a conversation without shouting. Great handcrafted beers, and if you like a cocktail (I like a dirty vodka martini, myself), they can hook you up. The menu is appetizers, but a nice variety to complement the many beer choices. I had the cheese plate, which had 3 kinds of cheese, nuts, and some strawberries with some simple crackers. It was just right for snacking as we chatted with friends. Service was outstanding, friendly and very welcoming. This is s favorite of our friends and looks like it will be on our list of great places to relax and hang out, too.

Just the right touch of different and familiar. Pizza was fantastic. Salad was delightful (farmers market special) music awesome, service excellent. Don't be thrown off by the Walmart strip mall location... Locally owned by a young couple that are doing it totally right:

Stopped on our way through Rochester, and was very impressed with this place. Quality beer with matching glassware, very good warm pretzels, smoked gouda pizza on naan bread. All excellent, in a fun atmosphere of beer bottles, signs, 90s music, and a Ms Pac Man table. I am the target demographic, apparently. Service was attentive and fast. We'll be back!
(5)Bo W.
Great place for a beer and some snacks to go with it. We wouldn't come here for a main-course meal (after eating appetizers, we went home and made dinner), but we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the cold beverages, attentive staff, and some tasty pub fair. We enjoyed both of our appetizers: the Sausage Flight and the Pretzels. Huge fan of the smoked eggs. Their pizzas and toasties looked like great snacks, even though we didn't try them. Unique little place and the only things that could be added are a few nitro beers on tap; just to give a few of them that little bit of extra flavor.
