(To just read about the food, scroll to the bottom) From reading other reviews, I notice that those with three or fewer stars are mainly complaining about the service, so I'm assuming that my experience isn't too infrequent. My parents are pretty big fans of Mango Thai, they were excited that a good Thai restaurant with a hip vibe popped up downtown, and because of their raving, I went to try it out a few days ago. We got there around 6:30pm on a weeknight and it was packed. We'd made a reservation but still had to wait about 10 minutes. We ordered the mango spring rolls, the pad see iew, and the panang curry. The rolls came out in 15 minutes, but 45 minutes after we'd finished our rolls, our meal still hadn't come. We asked the waiter a few times to check the kitchen and he said it was coming up, but 15 minutes later, another waiter came and told us that the printer had broken and our order hadn't gone in and apologized, but our waiter came back and simply blamed the kitchen and the printer. Our meal came out an hour after we'd finished our appetizer. We were pretty frustrated, but we decided to let it go, not only because we were too hungry, but we assumed these things don't happen very often. (Now onto the food!) The mango spring rolls were a 4.5. The sauces that came with them were delicious and the mango and avocado worked well together. The curry and the noodles, however, were 3s. I've had worse and I've had better. The curry was a bit too salty, but otherwise it was good and the pad see iew was pretty good but nothing special. One tips is to try their walleye. It's a special and my parents (who are basically regulars by now) get it every. single. time. If it was based on my personal experience at the restaurant, I'd give them 1 star, but because my parents have been there many times and have had great experiences, I'm averaging my rating to 3 stars.

As someone who loves to eat out and does so several nights a week, I can say that my dinner at Mango Thai was by far the worst meal I have had in at least five years. I don't even remember the last time I sent meal back to the kitchen, yet my husband and I had to send back three of the seven items that we ordered because they were just that terrible. First, the waitress (who never bothered to come check on us once in an hour and a half and constantly had to be flagged down) steeped the green tea for over 15 minutes to the point where it was mud. When I said it was a bit strong (I drink green tea very often) she said that it was the right way and walked away. The waitress next to us however noticed its grossness and made a new pot for the people next to us. Just none for us. Next, we ordered avocado crab rolls for an appetizer. While each had avocado, we could not find a single piece of crab in any of the four rolls. Mango Thai, you should change the name to just an avocado roll. Then I was brought a "seared" tuna salad which was completely raw, no sear at all. I ask for it to be slightly seared and it came back well done with burnt pieces all over the fish. Gross. Next we ordered the beef basil fried rice but asked the waitress if it was spicy. She said it could be put down to mild heat if we liked, which we said yes. When it came out it was at least three stars. Way too hot for anyone, even my siracha and jalepeno loving husband. We sent it back and it took over a half hour to come back, and this time it had zero spice to it and was just plain fried rice- not what we ordered. Finally, my husband ordered the shrimp pad thai, which was just completely coated in sauce to the point where you basically had to scrape it off. We would have sent it back as well, but at this point we had been waiting an hour and were just sick of getting such horrible food served to us. When we asked for our bill we were still charged the 14 dollars for the tuna salad, even though it was not eaten. The waitress refused to remove it from the bill and then when we asked to speak to the manager she told us "he is busy and doesn't want to come out to talk to customers". Terrible service. Terrible food. Terrible management. Stay away from Mango Thai.

What a great place. Stopped here for a quick meal before continuing our cross country drive... simply delicious. Would come here every day if I could :) Also quantities were great and filling - I wasn't able to finish mine and great price too! If you live nearby Rochester, MN - this place is a must!

Nice chill place to get some good Thai food. Had the chicken and shrimp Pahd Thai with medium spice. Noodles were perfect, shrimp had good bite to it and the chicken was good too. Only a couple shrimp but good amount of chicken. Ended up being spicier than I expected so I will be going with mild next time. My date had Pad Kee Mow (spelling?) She had Thai for the first time and said it was excellent. As far as the beer selection goes I think 8 types are more than enough. There are over 20 types of wine. Good music selection and overall good ambience. I live 45 minutes away and would come back again for sure.

I'm giving Mango Thai four stars even though it only really deserves three. Let's face it, there aren't a lot of good, international eateries in Rochester, and many of them that try to make a go at it end up closing within a year. So kudos to Mango Thai for taking the plunge. I hope you grace downtown Rochester for years to come because, quite frankly, I don't know where else to get Tom Kha in town. I ate lunch at Mango Thai the first week it was open. We had to wait a few minutes for a table that would accommodate our group of six, but the staff was pleasant and made an effort to get us seated as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I don't think the kitchen or waitstaff was ready for the onslaught of lunch visitors. I was thrilled to see so many people patronizing this new, Thai restaurant, but the traffic did cause some problems. Most notably, the kitchen ran out of chicken, which delayed one diner's meal for more than a half hour, and she ended up having to select a different protein. I expected that meal to be comped, but it wasn't. They did take the beverages off our bill to apologize for the inconvenience, but of the six of us, that amounted to one soda and one coffee. Aside from that, the server we had was friendly, but service was slow, and food came out at random times. My appetizer arrived after my entree, and two of our six entrees arrived a good five to ten minutes before any of the others. Onto the food. Our group felt the menu was a little hit or miss. The Crab Avocado Rolls were actually pretty bland, but the honey cashew sauce was so divine I considered ordering a keg of it and bathing in the stuff. Seriously delish. Two of us had the Panang Curry, and it was wonderful. The other entrees, however, left a little to be desired. I skipped the Tom Kha solely because they don't offer any soups by the cup, and at $18 I'm afraid most people will miss out on what, in my opinion, is the most wonderful Thai dish ever conceived. I look forward to testing it out on my next visit, despite the fact it's probably the most expensive soup on any menu in the Rochester area. Bottom line, I think Mango Thai is worth a try. Trust the recommendations of the servers, who were pretty on point with their suggestions. And if you have your heart set on chicken, you better get there early. LOL

This ain't your normal looking "Pad See Eiw," and ain't your normal spelled "Pad See Eiw." Think scrambled eggs vs. a scramble. This was a scramble. Noodles, chicken, peppers, scallions (or asparagus), carrots, and more stacked up, not a flat presentation. The soy sauce was solid, as was most of the dish. The one downside was that scallions or asparagus were not cooked fully. Awesome presentation of the Fried Bananas with Ice Cream and Cinnamon in a martini glass. Unfortunately, it was difficult to eat (solo or shared) because the bananas were hard to break/bite item. There was no host at the front of the restaurant, but a busboy sat us at a table. The waiter that served us knew everything about the menu and was very helpful.
(4)Dan J.
Thai spicy! NOT Rochester spicy! Very good! Authentic and flavorful, highly recommend!
(5)Bob J.
Oh my God! My prayers are answered. We have an authentic Thai restaurant in Rochester. DMC indeed! The place looks and feels upscale. The waiter was attentive and upbeat. The Shrimp and Chicken Basil was delightfully hot and spicy. And Two Hearted Ale to boot! My wife got Massaman Curry and really loved it. How about that?
(5)Anthony D.
Stay away from this restaurant, at least until they get their act together. There is no host or person in charge, the staff really seems to not have a clue. We went to Mango Thai on a Friday night and we were really the only people waiting for a table and we were told about a 20 minute wait, however after an hour at the bar waiting a table was finally cleared and was given to a group that just entered the restaurant, ridiculous. We just left and went to Sok Dee another Thai restaurant in town with fabulous food and excellent service. All of the tables seemed to be having issues of some kind at Mango some were waiting upwards of 20 minutes to pay others were waiting for beverages or food for an absurd amount of time. I can't comment on the food because we never got any, but what a disappointing restaurant go somewhere else.
(1)Kat O.
The husband and I split the pumpkin curry and the pad kee mow with seafood. They were both delicious!! The pad kee mow came with jumbo shrimp and large sea scallops, I was impressed. The pumpkin curry had the perfect balance of spicy from the curry and sweet from the pumpkin. Just as a side note, there spice level is pretty right on. If you ask for spicy, they will deliver!!
(5)Kate S.
I was excited about trying a thai restaurant in Rochester. I ordered takeout--Mango spring rolls and chicken/shrimp pad thai. The mango spring rolls were good. The pad thai was disappointing when compared to other pad thai dishes that I have had. I had wanted a vegetarian pad thai (which they do not have on the menu) but after trying the pad thai, I will not be returning. Hopefully other entrees are better.
(2)Kurt A.
Thai in Rochester, MN!!! (Yaaaay!) And this is GOOD Thai in Rochester. It's only been open for a day but they have it down. Food was fresh, nicely spiced, and cooked to perfection. Service was awesome too. Love the vibe in there. Will be going there a lot.
(5)Amanda L.
I'm perhaps going too much credit with 4 stars but the place had just opened and I think the staff needs a bit more time to have everything going totally smoothly. I had the basil duck which was nice but NOT spicy. My son had pad Thai which was good not great and my husband had an amazing peanut curry. Service was a bit slow, the wine recommendation was awesome. And the ambiance was wonderful. It was worth checking out and as of now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt re: details and room for improvement.
(4)Michael G.
Everything we ordered was delicious: mussaman curry, green curry, tom yum, panang curry, and appetizers. Somewhat expensive for frequent dining but definitely worth an occasional lunch or dinner.
(4)Cheri L.
We had the fried tofu, pad thai with shrimp and chicken, and massaman curry. The curry was out of this world. The pad thai was gross (too sweet). The fried tofu was fine and had a really good peanut sauce. Very slow and not very good service. We had to flag the waiter down several times. They also charge you 2 dollars extra for extra rice even though they barely give you any to begin with.
(2)Allen O.
Was really excited to try Mango Thai, as I love Thai. We were told we would have to wait 20 minutes, so we ordered some over-priced beers at the bar. We watched as diners waited fifteen minutes with their cash and credit cards out for the servers to ring them out. About 40 minutes later a table opened up which was given to a group that had just arrived, so we left and went to Sok Dee. This place is HORRIBLY DISORGANIZED.
(1)Epicurean K.
Disappointed, food was too hot, though we have asked up front. Three of us ordered three different dishes and neither could have it, told waitress we could not eat as it was too spicy, no one cares. I'm not going there again for sure
(2)Art B.
Excellent menu, nice range for all tastes. I had tum yum seafood which was legit. My wife had curry which was also very good. Wine menu is good but beer menu is lacking .
(4)Albert T.
Don't not try Mango Thai based on the first couple reviews. It took them a little while to get up to full speed it seems like but the food is great. The atmosphere is also a nice change for Rochester. Great place for lunch or takeout but probably best for dinner. Recommend getting something off the menu that they recommend (actual Thai dish) and not the Chinese type dishes. Great bar as well. Food is reasonably priced.
(5)CORRIE H.
Loved it! We had edmame, pot stickers, vegetable pad thai, and green curry-- all super delicious! Great service! Love the atmosphere! its great!
(5)Niyada N.
Having been here 3-4 times a week every week for about a year, I LOVE the food. Marlin and Chai, the owners, are gifted cooks. This is the best place to find authentic Thai food in MN. You may probably ask the owners for out of menu stuff. They are great in steak (better than near by places!!), Korean and Japanese dishes as well. They also have a plenty of national and international wine selection so it is an easy chill place to hang out!
(5)Jane E.
Completely surprised by this place in the middle of Rochester. The interior is sleek and open. The food also goes with the location and looks beautiful and tastes fresh. The only qualm is that the prices are way too expensive for this type of place. The food they are serving is basic thai food on nice plates and yet they are charging prices as though they have a prix fix menu and it is fusion food. The prices need to be go down by 8 dollars per item to make the food and cost reasonable.
(4)Maria O.
We were passing through Rochester and decided to stop for some Thai food and we were really impressed with the service and the food! Definitely would stop there again!! The staff were very attentive in checking on us and filling our drinks. They introduced their new features and specials of the day. We hoped they keep the special that we tried as their regular..the meat were seared perfectly and the dipping sauce was spicy but paired well with the meat. Our entrees had great presentation but tasted just as good as they looked. Worth your stop!!
(5)Dan S.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there tonight. I ordered something that was not specifically on the menu, but the fine young man from Romania behind the bar took my order and brought me exactly what I requested. It was delicious. Be careful, because the chefs idea of medium hot and yours may not be the same. It was within my limits, but a bit spicier than a normal American medium. Unfortunately the Tom Yum soup comes only in a family size, or I would have loved to start with it. As I did not have the soup, I had room for dessert. The Thai sticky rice and custard was very tasty.
(5)Bee P.
Best Asian restaurant in Rochester. Food and service are fantastic. We are Thai and we came here more than 40 times, if not more. Marin and Chai, the owners are both very friendly. You can also ask for special authentic Thai dishes that is not in the menu.
(5)Tisa H.
I had a great lunch here. The crab avocado rolls were delicious. But the Pad Kee Mow with shrimp was over the top delicious! Garlicky and spicy. I muttered "oh my goodness" at the first bite, not realizing I was talking to the food. I wonder if they make their noodles, because they were toothy (in a good way) and tasty. Just the right amount of egg and onion. Service was gracious and the dining room was very comfortable. I would go back often if I lived here in Rochester. Until then, I recommend it to all lovers of Thai food.
(5)Emily B.
Excellent curry. Nice, quaint atmosphere. Outdoor seating available. Wasn't there during a busy mealtime but the service was great. Will definitely come back again if I return to Rochester.
(4)James C.
Excellent food! The servers are outstanding. Have never had a bad experience here. Sit at the bar and enjoy yourself. Cody the Bartender makes a killer Long Island Iced Tea.
(5)Dalia A.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester. The food is awesome, the food presentation is very nice and the atmosphere is great. I especially love their curry dishes (I loved the Panang curry and pineapple shrimp curry dish). My only complaint is that some of their main entrees aren't as big as I would like especially for the price. Rice is pretty cheap so I would think they'd give more rice with their curry dishes.
(4)Bradly W.
Pretty decent Thai food in Rochester. The Panang curry was pretty solid but I feel like I would need to try some other things to get a better feel for the overall quality of the food.
(3)Amanda W.
Great food! A bit pricey, but very very good. Recommend the Thai Tea and their chicken and curry dishes
(4)Emily C.
Had the pad see iew which I liked but was a tad peppery and the broccoli was a tad under cooked. Mango rolls were delicious. Very pleasant waitress, although seemed a little understaffed for the dinner crowd.
(4)D K.
Amazing food. HORRIBLE SERVICE. The waitress took our order not once but twice, brought half the dishes out an hr apart from each other and we were there a total of 2.5 hrs! Manager was a lack of assistance- told us that he was getting us a round of drinks to make up for it but still charged us. Paid way too much money, full price in fact for a BAD experience. When we inquired about this he took a rolled up $20 bill out of his pocket, threw it on the table and walked away. Do yourself a service and order take out!
(2)Alli Y.
Upon revisiting Mango Thai a few more times, I've come to enjoy it more than my first experience. I think the food has definitely improved. We tried the crab avocado rolls (highly recommend) which comes with the most divine sauce (it actually reminds me of the tamarind sauce they serve at the Cheesecake factory). I also enjoyed the cashew chicken which had a nice ratio of sauce to chicken and nuts. I still was not hugely impressed by the pad thai (a bit too saucy for my tastes) though the flavor was quite good.
(4)Joe G.
I heard that this new place served some great food, I love Thai, so we ventured there this Friday afternoon to an almost empty but chic place. We ordered shrimp charcoal, tofu chili mint and beef fried rice. The fried rice was OK, beef was chewy and bit hard. the tofu chili mint was excellent, however the portion was small, with very few pieces of green and red peppers! The charcoal shrimp was a huge disappointment, great presentation, but overdose of spices , leaving the 5 shrimp tasting like spicy mess which ranged from Cajun to ITALIAN seasoning! Yes, you heard it right Italian seasoning! I wouldn't go back to eat here!
(2)Stephanie H.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Not too busy. Sat right away. Staff was kind and insightful about the menu. Food came quickly. Spicy and delightful. Will definitely return.
(5)Ivana J.
Came here for dinner and had the pad kee mow and the pumpkin curry special. Both were actually really good! The pumpkin curry was especially great and was served IN A PUMPKIN. Unfortunately, the good food was somewhat marred by the old "this special is twice as expensive as everything else on the menu" trick. That's always a downer when the check comes- why not just be upfront about it?
(3)Joseph G.
Really liked this place... Great food.. Chilly mint chicken was good and the service was amazing. Highly recommended.
(4)Brian N.
I have now been here 5 times. I have tried something different each time, same with my wife. 8 of the 10 dishes were outstanding and the other 2 were very good. This is a much better restaurant than the average star rating. It is my second favorite place to eat out in Rochester behind Pescara.
(5)Louis M.
I ordered the pad kee mow which normally consists of a beef, chicken or shrimp and these wide flat noodles with Thai basil. Well this dish had all of the ingredients but the noodles were chopped up into little pieces. I didn't even realize that they were noodles and had to ask the server where they were. He told me that maybe they broke up when being stir fried. I mean, come on man, I've had this dish all over the place and never had it come out like this. Not very impressed. Should be better for the money.
(2)Traci D.
Best Thai food in town. My husband and I go there whenever we can and love the mango spring rolls. The cashew chicken (or tofu if you ask for it), is my favorite! Absolutely love the food and atmosphere.
(5)Nicole N.
My sister and I are in town for a Mayo appointment and were looking for a delicious vegetarian meal. This place was amazing. Wonderful ambience, great service, and delicious food. She had the rama peanut curry with tofu and spinach. I had a ginger black bean dish with tofu. We shared the mango spring rolls (ordered without shrimp to make them veggie). SO good. Really reasonably priced, too. Tea, an appetizer, and two entrees were $45 including tip. We loved it. Happy to find such fabulous food close to our hotel. I would definitely go back.
(5)Debbie F.
After many disappointing restaurant experiences in Rochester, I am so glad I found this one for my visits to Mayo. The food was wonderful. The presentation was even more amazing and I will definitely be back for more.
(4)Wayne M.
Very good food and service. Don't judge this place by the outside appearance. But for these Yelp reviews we would have past it by. It almost looks like an empty store front. Even their name is hard to notice. Inside it is one of the best interiors I have seen in a resturant. They have obviously spent a lot of money decorating the interior. Too bad they didn't spend some on the outside.
(4)Layan A.
Came for dinner on a Friday night. It wasn't completely packed. We waited 20 minutes before being acknowledged and another 10 before getting seated in a table that's been empty the whole time we were there. Anyway, the service was mediocre at best. It took forever to everything to come out, for drinks to be refilled, and my friend's credit card to be swiped (they brought the rest of ours back). The food was ok. We had the fried veggies and the avocado spring rolls. The latter was definitely a lot better. I ordered one of their spicy noodle dishes with steak (can't remember the name sorry, this happened a month ago!). It was ok, the noodles were a little too thick and doughy, and greasy. But it was SPICY and I liked that. But I've definitely had better Thai food. My friends said their food was decent. All in all, not a great experience. I wouldn't call this my go-to non-sushi adian restaurant, I have yet to find one in Rochester- Anyone have a good one to recommend??
(3)Sean E.
Pretty much agree with the general flow of reviews. 1. Food is really good & spice level is actually real spice, not midwest "uff da" not-even-hot hot. They make it non-midwest hot. Its better than Sok Dee in my book. I see lots of great reviews for them, but that's never been my experience. Mango is the Rochester winner until we get some more competition and its obviously easier than going to the cities. 2. Service is not necessarily bad that we've seen, but maybe just not an overly friendly or attentive kind of vibe. Nothing that really bothered us. One of our visits was with a 2yr old who smashed a glass and they were great about it and quick on the cleanup. 3. Price is pretty steep. So far the taste of the food has outweighed the price, but we don't go too often.
(4)Scott H.
Wow! Awesome food, wait staff and presentation! The only downside would be the size as it's a bit cramped even when it's not full. We went here for a Friday night date. Mango Thai is a little bit higher end than the other Thai restaurants in town. But it is definitely worth it. We were immediately seated and greeted quickly by our awesome waiter. We started with the mango spring rolls and they were very good, but the star of this app was the peanut sauce. Pure perfection! We also got a bowl of edamame which was perfectly salted and not a limp bean in the batch. For my main course I got the chicken peanut curry. This was tossed in the same peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls. Very tasty and the chicken was so tender. I ate every last bite until my belly stuck out a mile. My wife got a mahi dish and loved that as well. I have to say the presentation of their dishes is what you would see in many higher end restaurants and I makes the dining experience so much better for me. We had absolutely no room for dessert...so we ordered it anyway. Fried banana and ice cream, again, a delicious treat that we raved about. We shall return.
(4)Sarah A.
Two apps and two entrees took well over two hours (not by choice). Mango spring rolls were tasty. Overpriced, bad service, okay food.
(2)Pamela S.
First of all, every time I've been here it has been busy. Yay for them! Unfortunately, they're still so disorganized. No host/hostess, no bus person which they clearly could use. Watching others after us trying to get a seat was painful. After watching 5 staff walk past several empty and dirty tables made me want to bus my own table just to get a seat. Once seated, we ordered everything right away thinking it would save time. No luck. I had to go to the bar and ask my server for my wine after 20 minutes of no beverage. We had to laugh because all we heard was the bell ringing. People would go back there, but nobody brought food out. After 40 minutes we got our appetizer. I swear people must come back for the food because every time I've been here the service was the same. Slow, disorganized and nobody wants to help you.
(2)Alex B.
I've been to this restaurant twice. Ordered the same pad kee mow dish both times (once with beef and once with tofu). The first time, without a reservation on a Saturday night, the customer service was fine and the food was great! However, the second time was terrible and I will not be returning to this restaurant! I made a reservation the day before and upon getting to the restaurant on a Thursday night, none of the servers came up to ask me about a table or my reservation. Once I caught the attention of one of them, I was informed that they didn't have a table and it would be a several minute wait. After 45 minutes...a table opened up and was given to a group who came in behind us without a reservation!! When we asked what was going on, we were very rudely told that there was a miscommunication and nothing could be done. At this point it was very late to go to a different restaurant so we stayed and ended up cramming five people at a four person table. Out of the five orders, three of them were much hotter than the 'mild' we requested, and the servers were not very responsive to this issue. Customer service and quality here is so variable that I don't recommend it unless you are willing to take a gamble...
(2)Paul H.
Update: June 2015. Went back again and was very impressed. It's a far cry from my first post. This time we asked to be seated outside. The table had silverware on it and our meals came at the same time. These two seeming small details were huge service faux pas the several times we have dined there in the past. The walleye special was pricey but was excellent. A vast improvement over the past. Hope it continues.
(5)Mat W.
Tldr; Had pad Thai, red curry, spring rolls, dumplings, all was ok, not awesome, just a really bad service experience, with no acknowledgement from anyone but the server. Longer version Had a very bad experience there today. Based on texts and phone call times to my wife, I estimate it was 53 minutes from the time I placed my takeout order until I received my food to go. The place emptied out, I got some pot stickers while I waited, 25 minutes later and still no food. Pathetic. I asked my server multiple times what was up, and really never got a good answer, except they were working on it and it was almost ready. I noticed that there were no new customers, and 15 minutes later still no food. No idea where breakdown was, server was nice, but in the end, if kitchen wasn't working, somewhere there was a breakdown. Food was good but so totally not worth this wait. Will not come back ever unless some work related thing forces me to. If manager had come out, if something was done to comp me, if some explanation was given, anything on the customer service side, it would have helped. Instead my wife waited an extra 45 minutes for her mothers day meal.
(1)PS S.
Poor service. Wait staff does not seem to care about customers. Owner is kind of a d!ck. Been there a few times with guests and friends. The food is decent. Overpriced! Dish portions are inconsistent, sometimes rice is included, other times charged for. Overall not worth the time. Better of going to the cities.
(2)Nadia A.
Food 4 stars, service 2 stars. I have been to Mango Thai three times and have only been underwhelmed by one dish. All of the food I have had has been absolutely delicious. Fresh ingredients, outstanding flavors, and good portions (some larger than others but nothing huge). Last time I visited I had what's now my favorite dish there: a Chilean sea bass special served on a bed of asparagus and mango. It was SO delicious - the fish was fresh and flaky and the mango juicy and sweet. Asparagus perfectly cooked. I've also had the green curry, red curry, and tasted the pad thai. All were great. For dessert I had the fried banana, and though what I got was unexpected, it was still very tasty. I expected simple fried plantains, but these had some breading or phyllo dough type wrapping. A word of caution: the food can be HOT (spicy). I love hot food and got the hot once (mild, medium, hot are the options) and it was borderline way too hot for me. I ordered the medium after that and that is the perfect level for me. Again, I like hot food, so just a word of caution for those who may not. The service was terrible the last time we were there - you could tell they were short-staffed and there were LOTS of unhappy faces searching for the server. But, I've also had good service there, so it's really hit and miss.

Well.. I know that they do have food.. But customer service sucks big time.. I was served with shrimp and chicken basil with almost 50% of salt..... It was soo bad.. Ibtried tobexplain the same thing.. The waitress said.. Oh i am sorry.. Thats all they had.. Not even a courtesy of asking if i want to get anything else... So, the worst customer service i have ever experienced......
(1)Grace P.
I love mango thai. It is my ultimate favorite and it has never ceased to displease me. My favorite is the massaman curry! There appetizers are pretty tasty too. Every worker is nice, and it is a very chill place to go; whether lunch, dinner, or dessert. I have never had trouble getting seated either.
(5)Sonya P.
Our favorite meal in Rochester! Our waiter was Rachard- he is a delight- welcoming and knowledgable. Highly recommend the mango spring rolls and green curry- fresh, delicious and the curry was the perfect level of heat.
(5)Greg L.
Tuesday was not busy and service was good unlike previous reviews. Crab appetizer was 3.5, dip was a 5. Mahi mahi curry was 4.5. Very tasty, but a bit spicy. Green Tea ice cream was a 4. Mango was not quite ripe enough. Unique flavor with a smooth texture proved a soothing finish to a spicy dish.

Spice of your life!!!! If you want hot you got it here. They will take your order and ask if you how hot and when they mean hot it is hotttttt!!!!!! Good flavor, good people, good times.

Excellent addition to the downtown broadway scene. There's a fully stocked bar as well as a creative cocktail menu. You can't go wrong with the spinach in peanut sauce. Or the garlic shrimp. Just make sure you order the mango sticky rice for dessert. A tad pricey but you are paying for a quality dining experience in a great Rochester location.

This restaurant seems to be going for a "trendy" and "upscale" vibe, and certainly succeeds as far as decor and ambiance go - this is a fun place to sit for a meal. Unfortunately, they also charge the correspondingly "upscale" prices for their food which, regrettably, just doesn't match up. The first time I visited I just tried the pad thai, which, as other reviewers have mentioned, just didn't taste right and almost seemed like it had ketchup as an ingredient. Not cool! Chalking all this up to a fluke of a bad first experience, I returned again today and had the chicken and shrimp pad thai and an order of the green curry with sticky rice. Once again, the pad thai was a tasteless clump of noodle. At this point I'm convinced that the cooks aren't using the tamarind-fish sauce-sugar-pepper sauce base that anyone who cooks Pad Thai should be using. It is missing all the great flavor that the sauce should give it, and it didn't even have a hint of spicy. And despite being "chicken and shrimp," I had two shrimps in my dish. What gives guys?! On the other hand, the green curry was freakin' delicious. Perfect balance of sweet and spicy, and on par with some of the best curries I've had. One nice plus - these guys have a "passenger loading" lane right out front which makes take-out a breeze. Pretty rare for a downtown restaurant.

Food = 5 (or maybe 6?) stars Service = 3 stars Hence my 4 star review. Food is excellent. A nice addition for Rochester, and they are not afraid to be spicy! The service unfortunately is often lacking. We've only been twice; once on a Saturday night and once on a Friday so maybe they are better during the week... but the first time, it took us 20+ minutes for them to run our card (and we were sitting at the bar). The 2nd time was a slightly better experience (we made reservations), though they were clearly overwhelmed by the patron to wait staff ratio. Once they figure the service thing out, this will easily be one of the best restaurants in Rochester! Again, everything I've sampled has been delicious and the ambiance is very nice.

Had takeout from here while visiting the mayo clinic. I had the ginger duck which was good and had a lot of roasted duck in the dish. I would definitely go again.

Very good, but a little pricey. the waitstaff were very knowledgeable and helped me a lot in deciding what to order. Small place, nice atmosphere. There is parking in the back but not much so it is hard to get near it but there is a parking ramp a couple blocks away. Nice date spot but may be hard to accommodate many large groups.

Excellent spot here, dishes come out looking fabulous and well plated. Be aware in the menu they have three little stars which means how spicy it can be and they sure mean it. However the food is not only spicy it tastes amazing, I couldn't stop eating even though my mouth was burning. My girlfriend had a non spicy dish that was also delish. I will be back to this restaurant. They have a full bar and the decor is wonderful. Generous portions as well.

I have been twice to this restaurant. It's been pretty good both times. The portions are great, the ambience was nice, and they have a really neat sink in the women's restroom...sorry guys...you just have a boring sink in yours. The only reason why I did not give them a 5 was because of the Tom Kha. It was a little too coconut-ty and chile pasted for me. I was hoping for a more powerful flavor. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. It was good, but it just wasn't what I was used to. Their Black Bean Paste dish was good too. I liked all of the fresh veggies on it. I also enjoyed their red curry. The waiter was super nice, and talked to us about his Sushi menu, which I can't wait to try. I recommend it for sure!

We went there on Valentines day. We had reserved a table but had to wait nearly 15 minutes. It would not have been too much of a wait except that my wife is pregnant. Nonetheless our host was excellent, the food was of great quality including the dessert. We got a shrimp and chicken dish. Our friends who were vegetarians ordered tofu dishes. Beautiful violin music added loveliness to the ambience. The evening was topped off with a complementary rose for me to gift my wife. Negatives- for the price charged the amount of food is far less compared to other restaurants. Definitely a place to go just make sure you reserve a table!

The best chili grilled shrimp I've ever had. We also had the spring rolls and they were also very good. Our entrees were rather bland and lacking considering price.

Service was good. Hot Towel at start to clean hands. Chicken Satay was good. Panang Curry with Tofu dish came with only tofu and small bits of green bell pepper and the rice was cold as if they used that for their sushi.

Very nice setting, service, & food. The Panang Curry is wonderfully spicy and softened with the coconut milk.

Love the food and atmosphere, but the service is sub-par.

I had a nice and easy, snowy Monday afternoon experience here. The service was good, quick and not overbearing or judgemental (despite our backwoods appearances). The red curried beef was A+, the pad Thai was ok but not a stellar seller(dry?);Medium spicy means not spicy. The mango rolls were refreshing, mostly lettuce, but I enjoyed it. The wine was nice and you get a decent glass. Prices are high, but that seems to go with the location.

have eaten here twice. The food is exceptional and served beautifully. The service was spot on. I had the duck which was tender ad tasty and also the sea bass...best ever, My friends who will eat out unless the food is gourmet were delighted and they are frequent fliers to France for the food and wine.

We started with a pot of hot tea, which was delicious and hit the spot. Edamame was a generous portion size and of course very tasty. Then came the entrees. One of my dining companions ordered a dish that said it came with broccoli, however when it arrived it had only peppers and onions in it. Another companion said his food tasted pre-made and was not fully heated. My own dish had a delicious sauce and was just the right serving size, so I was pleased. Overall the food quality was good, taste was up to par but not life changing. The women's bathroom was missing a light bulb so it was kind of creepy in there. Our service was fantastic though and I liked the modern look and feel of the restaurant space.

One of the best restaurants in town! Awesome food ... Live music is nice but can be a little loud!

This place takes a spin on traditional Thai. While the menu is fairly limited it still manages to cover enough ground to satisfy. As the waiter says "it's not Minnesota nice" on the heat levels. I ordered the beef Chili mint - "hot" and was sweating the whole way through...loved it! "Thai hot" may be too much for even me, a My wife got the salmon special "medium". She loved the flavor but the fish was severely overcooked. It was bad enough to where we actually complained. To their credit they did offer to send us out a new piece but we refused not wanting to wait for it. Even with the dry salmon, my wife says she'd love to go back. I hope I'm with her!

Great Thai in Rochester, MN, what a pleasant surprise! On my first visit, I ordered Shrimp and Chicken Basil - $12.95. Shrimp were large and the chicken was minced and bathed in a rich, flavorful and complex sauce. Just delicious. The sauce heat level was rated xxx and provided just the right amount of heat (can be made hotter on request. The serving size was just right and I was full and satisfied when done and didn't have enough left to take home. I think that a lot of folks in the midwest have to adjust to the idea that if they aren't served enough to two or three meals, they aren't being short-changed. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service and will return again and again as I work my way through the menu.

Really delicious Thai food, tastes just as good as any good Thai restaurant I have eaten at in the big cities. Bar is lacking but that's okay! The service while friendly, is slow. The tom yum soup is ridiculously spicy and I'm a spice eater.
(4)Altan K.
Actually a surprisingly good place. Excellent choices even the garlic chicken is very tasty. The big thing here is that they are tremendously popular and even when coming early they are very busy so make a reservation. The wait staff get very busy so also be prepared to wait a bit during your meal.

The food is so flavorful and has the ingredients southeast Asian food should have. I had the basil duck on bok choy and it reminded me of something my mom has cooked so much. The veggies were still al dente which I like. The spice factor was pretty good, but I think it could do more spice for being a 3 star spicy food (3 being the spiciest). We started with the fried squid, which had tempura batter, so it was tender and crispy. I ended with the fried bananas with ice cream. The bananas are wrapped in egg roll wraps and was a good contrast to the vanilla Ice cream. A nice ending to a great meal. I would highly recommend coming here for your Asian food needs, lol. Prices are decent. You do get a good amount of food. I had to take the rest of my duck to go.

The food is outstanding. the pot stickers and the chicken satay are a great way to start the meal as are the mango spring rolls which were fresh and delicious. the black bean with tofu and the panang curry were fantastic. what this place needs to hit the ball out of the park is a manager. the staff was overwhelmed and disorganized. therefore the service was HORRIBLE. fix this problem. why is this so hard?

Mango Thai is not related to Johnny Mango's that I've been critical of before, but rather related to a twin cities restaurant of similar name and menu. My friend Andy and I chose to test it out yesterday for lunch, what follows is an account of our experience... In truth, the construction and parking were the only partial difficulties we endured having lunch at Mango Thai. When you enter the restaurant, the decor is modern and similar to comparable restaurants in Chicago, NYC, or Washington DC. except for the sitting area which is a single (nice) low profile padded bench. This is of course barely relevant since we were able to sit promptly. The restaurant was essentially filled with a single table open throughout the lunch time rush. The wait staff were kind, attentive and moved with purpose. The drinks were good sized, and the dishes seemed to parallel the price in size and complexity. I had Chicken Basil and Andy had Soup. The items were perfectly sized and extremely flavorful. The presentations were beautiful as well. The flavors reminded me of the great Thai restaurant that used to stand where Poblana currently is but with a lot more flair in presentation and decor. The restaurant is going to be an awesome addition to the Rochester landscape with Pescara, Poblana, Nupa, Prescott's etc. So, since I'm still savoring a great Star Trek Into Darkness Experience let me offer this..xyÅ« nÄn læa prasb khwÄm srÄ•c (Live Long and Prosper in Thai).

We had the Crab Avocado Roll for an appetizer and not only was it a delectable dish, the presentation is awesome. For my main entre I had the Green Curry Mahi Mahi. It was very spicy, but it was very good. This has quickly become my favorite place to eat in Rochester. We sat outside and enjoyed the bustle on the street.

Excellent atmosphere, food, drinks and service! Very friendly staff and a Long Island iced tea to die for. Had the chicken and shrimp pad Thai and basil duck. Soooo good! Dark urban city atmosphere. Could think you were in Chicago from the inside. Very good place to eat and enjoy a little finer dining.

My son and I went to Mango Thai for his birthday yrsterday. His choice but I was happy with it wanting to broaden our experiences with a variety of restaurants in town. The food was excellent from the appetizers to our entrees. The crispy squid and spring rolls were great, and accompanying sauces super tasty. I had the Massaman curry and loved it. We ate outside on the sidewalk which was nice (due to weather and passersby). I think for date night (and anytime between October and May) I would recommend indoor seating as the decor and ambiance seem really nice inside. Service was timely and in all other ways good.

It's a nice cosy place. Good ambience and very good food. The Tom Yum soup was excellent.

Saw this new Thai place on Monday and decided to try it out a day later. It gives off the feeling of "up-scale" Thai food, which is very atypical; however, it was in a way that was not overdone. We ordered Duck Curry and Pad See Eew. The duck curry was a little on the sweet side with its abundance of lychee and pineapple, but it was not bad. The pad see eew has smaller portion that what I'm used to seeing and is extremely hot. I had a hard time finishing it. Despite this experience, we will likely come back again to try other items on the menu because we believe what we had was just an one-off miss.

Overall a nice addition to have to rochester. We had the potstickers as an appetizer which were delicious and then I ordered the Pad Kee Mow with beef which had amazing flavors. It said it is spicy and that was true! I'm not usually one for spicy foods, but the flavors made me keep going. Jasmine was our server and she was great! I appreciate that he checked on how ripe the mangos were before putting in an order for the mango sticky rice. Thankfully they were perfect and it was a great dessert to end our meal on. I give 3/5 stars because I wish they had a larger drink menu and the restaurant is a bit tight.

Came here for lunch over my thanksgiving break with a friend. I used to LOVE Sushi Itto which used to be in this spot, so Mango Thai had a lot to live up to. While it was definitely pricey, the food was GREAT, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was spectacular. I had the seafood pad Thai and my friend had the vegetarian pad Thai. We were both really happy with the spice level, the flavorings, presentation, and portions. It filled both of us up comfortably (though the portions were much smaller than Pho Thai which is on broadway), I thought mine had a decent amount of seafood (and it wasn't all imitation crab), and very tasteful. Not overly spicy, not overly peanut-y, just perfect. Definitely heading back with the family next time I'm home!
