India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Had dinner last night with my mother, the food was not very tasty. We had lamb biryani and mix grill. The lamb biryani I do not recommend it at all very tiny lamb pieces, for the mix grill only the chicken tandori was fine other things were not good. I highly advice you not to order thier mix salad we did not eat it it does it look nice and not tasty. There are not alot indian resturents here in rochester only two maybe that i know so I guess i will have to try thier buffet and I will comment on that. I only liked the bread and souce they bring for free and the nan bread that came with the mix grill.

It was OK but I've certainly have had better Indian buffets. The previous posts stating no spice are right on. Mind you the lovely bride thought it was spicy but she thinks mint chocolate ice cream is spicy. OK I'm exaggerating but it was one of the more blander Indian restaurants I've been to. Despite not being spicy the chicken korma and chicken tandoori were flavorful. I was disappointed they did not have butter chicken or chicken masala but that is a me thing. They had both beef and chicken curry but both were more veggie than meat and if you know me veggies are not considered food in my world. Naan was average at best. There was no desert dishes specifically gulab jamun. If they had the gulab jamun it would of helped the over al rating. The ambience was more basic decor than 'ambience', service was tad better than average for a buffet. The going out the door on Indian Garden is if I and the bride are ever in Rochester again. I'll try one of the other very few Indian places just to see if there is possibly something better

Bad service, bad food very salty and too much oil. We arrived at restaurant at 2:10 pm and they we're not too happy to see us as the buffet closes at 2:30. Asked us to rush and get in line before we were even seated. Extremely rude, made us feel as if they were doing favors. I am originally from India, these guys have no clue how Indian food should be prepared. Don' t waste your money here

This is one of my favorite Indian places (actually, it's tied for first), either in Rochester, Minneapolis, or the South (San Francisco) Bay area near San Jose (where I lived for a few years). I've been eating here since the late 90's, both for the lunch buffet and the dinner menu. My only complaint (which doesn't warrant removing a star) is that the iced tea is a little "odd" tasting -- but unless you're really bent on having iced tea, I've got nothing bad to say.

This is the only India cuisines in Rochester despite that India curry house is closed, Tried theirs buffet, 1) American India style, no spice whatsoever... 2) choices are very limited, 3) the price are kinda expensive for buffet without any seafood $10 per person, 4) the ambience ( is just ok)! No much choice anyway. Need to drive up to cities for good Indian food!

The wait staff was friendly but not enough to overcome the dated, worn, and dusty furniture and decor. The vegetarian entrees all (had four total) tasted the same and didn't have the complexity of spices that separate excellent Indian restaurants from the mediocre ones. That being said, the veggies were fresh and not over cooked, and the veggie samosas were tasty, crisp, and well seasoned. The lentil soup was flavorful and delicious. Being an out of towner, I don't know if this is the best Indian around, but either way it suffices in its mediocrity if one has a craving.

I love Indian food. In fact I've tromped all over NYC trying to find the best, cheap Indian food. This place was alright. We had the chicken Mahkani and a Dal. Not the best, but not the worst. If you're looking for spicy/authentic Indian, you might be disappointed. If you just order as is, it is very mild. The woman in charge was kind of looming/unwelcoming and made the trip for my mom and I rather unpleasant. The other servers were good.

Excellent lunch buffet. Good flavor compared to other indian buffets. I ate until I had to wobble back into work.

For Rochester this is the best Indian restaurant in town. Don't be fooled by its outside appearance, the place is clean and their food is really good. I like their chicken korahi the most. Their naan bread is also excellent. Service is average and it is very well priced. They do have buffets on the weekends, but I always feel the quality of the dishes are better when ordered a la carte.

If you're the brave type who likes an Indian buffet, this is an excellent one! Flavors are very good, obviously it's all-you-can-eat, and the waitstaff are very pleasant. I went with several friends of varying levels of comfort with Indian food, and all loved it. I've done takeout from them as well, and they packaged everything very nicely. Not the tiniest spill on the way home.

Tried this place three times, each time I was more disappointed than the last time. Food is okay to weak at best. Bland and off the mark. It is as if the cooks decide to stop 75% the way through a recipe and flavoring. And/or they skimp on quality ingredients. Service is mediocre. Others who rate this place with high stars need to try Indian food at other places, try a couple of places in the cities. Wont be going back.

Ever wondered what a samosa tasted without any spice in it? Well, you can test it out here because the food is so watered down that water would set your tongue on fire more than anything at India Garden. The naan is four star quality even though I'm skeptical it is store bought. I'm sure I would rate India Garden much lower if it wasn't in Rochester but it is nice to eat something other than fast food so three stars.

Decent Indian food, but due to lack of good options in the area, is sort of the go to place on Rochester. Their food can be better but lunch buffet is pretty good. Service can be a bunch better as well. All in all if you do not have the time to drive to the twin cities, then it's a good alternative to quench your Curry craving!

One of my favorite restaurants in Rochester after only my first time there. I feel badly that I can't remember the names of the dishes I tried, but I got some kind of curry/cream shrimp dish, person I was with got some kind of rice/chicken dish (no sauce, just a spiced chicken/rice). Both were excellent - full of complex flavors and very filling. You get a lot of food for the money. Also got the garlic naan, definitely recommend it. Has the perfect touch of garlic to it that really rounds out the meal. The starter 'thing' you get when you sit down (no idea what it is) with the two sauces was also really good. Will definitely be back Service was what I'd expect - attentive and accommodating.

Decided to visit here after a long day at Mayo Clinic based on the great reviews here and on other dining sites. We couldn't have been happier with our decision. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was gracious and attentive. Best of all, the food was to die for. Portion sizes were generous and reasonably priced for the area. There's obviously a reason they've been rated the best Indian restaurant in Rochester year after year! We'll definitely be back next time we're in Rochester.

I'd only eaten "Indian food" twice previously. Once, in the wilds of Kent (UK) the pub I was being ignored in gave me a bowl of curry on a make good. Seemed okay. Also, ate Indian at some industry shindig in Monterey once. I do not recall my opinion of this food. OPEN BAR. Had the wife order for me here, as she'd had Indian all over. I was blown away at how wonderfully great this food was and how well the server did to hang with me on my inability to understand the menu. My go-to in Rochester for many years has been the Greek place--Zorbas. I'm afraid you won't find me there any longer.

Although the biryani was delicious, this place lacks in terms of character. It is also quite over priced for the portions...this said, the fact that they have halal meat is definetely a big plus:)

I stopped here for dinner based on the reviews on this site. The food was excellent. I had the Chaat app and really enjoyed it. I followed it up with one of their combination meals that had Vegi Korma, Tandoori Chicken, and Lamb Rogan Josh. Really good!!!

Honestly, I don't know why this place has only been reviewed by me. In the 1.5 years since my last review, I've been here countless times. It's still just as good as the first time. Yum! There are always other customers in the restaurant, but it's never too packed and never too busy. Last time we visited, we got the sampler plates for 2 as a Valentine's present for ourselves. Highly recommended! The food was fantastic. FYI, the chicken masala did not look nearly as appetizing as it tasted. For the record, it was perhaps the best chicken I've had. Absolutely mouthwatering, but you wouldn't know it to look at it.

My favorite Indian restaurant in Rochester. Excellent lunch buffet. Moderately priced and VERY tasty!

Delicious Lunch buffet for less than $10. My co-workers and I go here a few times a month. We are addicted!

This is by far the best restaurant in Rochester. Granted, that is not saying much given the low quality of other restaurants, but India Garden would do well in a much larger city. It's comparable to Gandhi Mahal in Minneapolis. The food is always fresh, hot, and tasty. The owner, a friendly, interesting person, formerly owned a popular Indian restaurant in London that catered to high government officials and other grand pouhbahs. I come here often for the buffet lunches and brunches and must always guard against eating too much. It sometimes feels like I'm a runaway steer lost in the middle of a beautiful corn field.

Ate here with my gay friend, Greg. He was sure the waiter was attracted to him. I think Greg is a narcissist, but whatever. Oh, the food was delightful.

Amazing food and service with a variety of different Indian dishes. Almost anyone will love it.

The food is absolutely delicious!! The service is impeccable. India Garden is a keeper!!

Went back for another buffet. The food was meh. The samosa that I enjoyed last time was terrible this time. This place is hit or miss.

Food: good (American) Indian food... I don't wanna be a racist, but the food is not as spicy and authentic as Indian food! But, if you're stuck at Rochester and are craving for a nice Indian meal, this is the place to check out. Way better than the other Indian restaurant in town. They do have a nice buffet at lunch on Monday till Saturday for a very reasonable price. Nice food selection to choose from. Service: not a really nice place, if you are looking for a good hospitality. Especially with the fake smile. Make yourself comfortable or get lost. They don't really care. Price: competitive. Ambience: quiet.

I went here for lunch when I spent a day at the Mayo. I had the lunch buffet (the only option) and it was delicious. The pakoora was sooo good. I highly recommend it. And it's just a 10-15 minute walk from the Mayo if that's where you're coming from.

Great food. The real deal and friendly owner to serve you

OK food. Horrible service. Very very unfriendly.

Two Indian places in town, this is definitely the better of the two. Fast service, tasty food, nice variety. Hard to find but worth it. Got the veggie sampler for appetizers then the chicken vindaloo--nice and spicy.

When in search of something flavorful and a little spicy in Rochester head for India Garden. A nice little place. Clean and with good to great service. Took my wife and father to dinner there. This was the first time my father has eaten Indian food. He isn't into spicy food and can't eat salty foods, but he enjoyed it. We had the lentil soup to start with - plenty of flavor. We hand tandoori fish (it was salmon), a lamb dish, and a vegetable dish. The fish was fair, the lamb was okay and nicely spiced, and the vegetable dish was mild with plenty of flavor. We got plenty of attention and as I explained the need for not too much salt they were plenty willing to talk, give advice, and ensure that we didn't get too much. The naan and garlic naan were pretty basic and I wouldn't rate that high. The rice was good. I have never been to India, but I have eaten plenty of Indian food in Seattle, China, England, and Ireland so while far from an expert I'm not a rookie. I was pleased and if I lived here or if I know of someone coming to visit I will recommend it to them. I would encourage the visitor to branch out and get it hot and not mild. If it is too hot stop at the DQ on the way home.
