Great Place for happy hour!

This is a restaurant in search of some organization. It seems like no one is in charge, and it's easy to become invisible to the waitstaff. I'd been here once before and had had a pleasant experience (hence two stars rather than one), but this time was very unsatisfying. After I sat down, I was totally ignored, just like the other customers, none of whom appeared to have food even though it was lunch time. Waittresses walked by but said nothing and didn't even look at me. I had no menu. Perhaps I was in the gap in the zone defense, who knows. After fifteen minutes or so, I left. This was a real non-experience, perhaps it didn't occur at all. Very Kafkaesque....it's possible I was sitting next to a starving Joseph K.

Don't Bother! Their menu says all burgers served medium, i was served a well done, very DRY burger. We visited on a monday evening, and had to wait almost 45 minutes after they took our order before food hit the table, and we all had burgers, they were all over cooked and dry. the Taco burger was flavorless. just another bar trying to be something else as well.

If I didn't have a coupon..... I wouldn't be here. Staff are not friendly at all. I'm only person at whole establishment, and all staff including bartender are all ignoring me.

Good for a pit stop.. decent food for a reasonable price. Service is hit or miss - mostly friendly or at worst indifferent.

Gave this two shots, and won't be going back. The burgers themselves are not that great. Menu descriptions of the burgers have 3-6 ingredients listed, but what's not said is that most of the ingredients are either ground into the patty, or ingredients are incorporated in a sauce or spread on the bun. Don't be surprised when a simple bun and a patty shows up instead of a the decorated burger you thought you were getting. The garage gimmick doesn't work. The place feels empty and cold, like you're literally eating in a Jiffy Lube after the lights have been turned off. Go to Newt's instead.

Fat Willy's is recapitulation of the standard Rochester bar & grill. The menu is themed on old cars and contains the standard fair. Some of the burgers are interesting and the food was cooked appropriately. Pros: Guinness on tap Variety of burger choices Friendly staff Cons: The decor is the most significant novelty The menu is limited focusing on burgers The atmosphere is loud!

yeah it was okay. nothing bad nothing great. better than fast food, good wait staff

A burger joint that serves meat it cannot cook rare or medium rare is not buying quality meat. The service was fine but why offer burgers if they have to be cooked medium or worse. The beer selection is good with Surly Furious on tap. The salad was fine but served in too small a bowl with a plastic medicine cup containing salad dressing. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The decor is faux auto garage diner chic.

Was greeted right away. Within a minute we had are drinks. Refills were made without a request. Burgers were awesome and they had plenty of fries. If you are looking for a place that had high quality burgers and service go to big willies.

Horrible service....horrible food....great atmosphere.....what a shame!!!! Will not be back!!!

Never again. Maybe it was waiting half an hour for a menu on a Tuesday....maybe it was the sub par food...could have been the kids screaming the entire time we were there... don't bother.

Fat Willy's is has a car themed atmosphere, probably about 4-5 flat panel TVs, a prominent bar with probably about 8-10 on tap beers. There is complimentary self-serve popcorn and I think a pull tab machine for those interested in that sort of thing. As an Iowan, I also appreciate their subtle nod's to the Hawkeyes. Something that takes some bravery in Gopher country. The menu: I have been here probably about 6 or 7 times and I have tried several of their burgers, which all have some fairly interesting combinations. Some of these toppings/ingredients include chorizo, fried onion rings, jalapeno's, house made horseradish, blue cheese, ground pork, mushrooms, etc. Overall, I would say I like these burgers better than Newt's which has the reputation of being the "best in Rochester". I guess I think they are good but not incredible. I find myself wanting to combine different toppings that are not on the menu and they have been accomodating when i have done that. The french fries here are really good. They are crinkle cut, which i usually find sort of soggy and bland, but Fat Filly's fries are consistently crisp, even slighly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They also have a variety of house made sauces and gravies. My wife likes their brown gravy. I like their house made key lime mustard sauce. The other menu items include a BLT (which my wife loves and orders every time), hot dogs, nachos, french dips, wings, etc. They also serve breakfast on the weekends and that menu looks very good, but i haven't had the chance to try it yet. The portions are plentful, especially the fries. The service is another reason we like to go here. We get the same server almost every time and she is just a very sweet lady and she always remembers us and knows what we want. It can get kind of busy and so refills and such sometimes aren't very quick, but the food always comes out quick, hot and correct, which is great. Overall, of the Rochester Bar food scene, I prefer this place over Beetles and Newts for sure...I do think that Chester's has a better burger, but Chester's is more of a trendy contemporary restaurant which is a completely different vibe that Fat Willy's.

Great local place with nifty garage diner decor. The shrimp po' boy was not what I expected, it was more like a shrimp cake, but it was delish with big chunks of shrimp. And the chili and cheese, on the fries or hot dog, totally take me back to high school concession stand days (which is a good thing!). The service we've had both times was less than par, maybe we just caught them on bad days. Good place to eat before watching a movie across the street; it's probably cheaper to eat at Fat Willy's than the theater!

Not very good. Food is just ok. It's mostly weird burgers and stuff.
(2)Dave D.
Fat Willy's has some tasty options (including a Chicago-style hot dog); mostly burgers and American-style sandwiches. A lot of tap beers to choose from. Service isn't always the best, but there are a lot of TVs.

There is absolutely nothing special about this place and the prices they charge make it even less appealing. Strange decor composed of old dirty signs, inattentive wait staff, and just a generally strange feel to the place I had the "CJ Burger" which was rather plain and somewhat dry. The baked beans that came with it were not appetizing whatsoever. Save yourself the trouble and head down to Newts or 5 Guys if you are in Rochester and in the mood for a burger.

Not impressed. Food = boring, tea= tasteless, atmosphere= noisy even tho they were not particularly busy at lunch time today.

Food was nothing special. Was hoping for a GREAT burger but was disappointed. Nice menu selection but thought the burger was only average. Probably won't be back. Green Mill burgers better.

This is a burger joint. It has some great original burgers with unique names. For starters we had mufflers ( I think). It was cheese bread with pepperoni served with marinara. They were basically mini pizza starters on thin slices on French bread. Not sure if I would order them again. They had a lot of marinara sauce on them which made it a bit soggy and the additional marinara on the side was not necessary. I had a Ferrari burger which is a hamburger with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese on top. I had fries; nothing to crave but satisfying. My boyfriend had a burger that was open faced with French fries and nacho cheese on top (I forgot the name of this burger). We felt his burger had too much cheese on it and we are HUGE cheese fans. It would have been better if the cheese was real cheese instead of nacho cheese. They have a nice environment. The waiters were running around like crazy but were very friendly, efficient and made the experience overall pleasant. I would go back to try a different burger with a car name! The highway 63 burger looks delicious! It has olives on it! YUMMY!

Free popcorn, cold beer (that's not free)and an outstanding patio. This is a fantastic place to have a drink outside. They have a wide range of different flavored burgers. They also offer a shrimp boil that looks cool. I received service immediately. It wasn't real busy. I ordered a beer and it came right away and it was cold. I ordered the fat willie burger and it arrived before I could finish my first beer (it was hot and I was drinking faster than normal too). The burger was very good! The homemade beans were just like my grandma's. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely come back to try another one of their burgers. I sat a long time finishing my second beer asking myself why I shouldn't rate this a five star experience? I couldn't come up with one on this visit so I gave it five stars. This is a great burger/beer joint and not anything more. I compared it to other burger/beer joints for my rating.

We were going to the movie theater next door and decided to stop here and have dinner before going to the movie. The decor was in a "hotrod" garage style with lots of old tin signs and license plates on the walls. When we were there, about a third of the place was filled with bikers. As others commented, the service wasn't great, but we weren't completely ignored. We asked about the free popcorn and were told to help ourselves. The food was mostly american - burgers, fries, sandwiches, etc. Most of the food appeared to be what I call the "Sysco standard" - meaning it's bulk industrial frozen food that's been thrown in a fryer or on a cooktop. It wasn't bad tasting, it just wasn't the best quality, and was definitely overpriced for what you got.

Ordered a king of the burger with fries !!! The burger well seasoned and not too greasy. French fries was okay, nothing to brag about. Services was good. A good place to enjoy burgers and beers.

I am leaving one star only - considering this is the HUB of excellent medical care, one would believe restaurants would be accommodating. This place was not!!! My daughter was advised to eat small tiny portions at supper before expansive testing in the morning at Mayo Clinic. She asked for the child's meal, explaining she could only eat a small amount. The waitress and manager both declined that this was a possibility. The $3 difference in price is not the point-- large portions nauseate ill people. LaQuinta motel next door recommended-- after we returned we told the manager and they were appalled. I hope Willy's enjoy the extra $3 they made.
