The good: Clean, recently remodeled restaurant. Decent chips, salsa and guacamole. The bad: Super slow sub par service. Food was all around meh - the boyfriends Chimichangas were literally swimming in grease to the point that he wouldn't finish them. Not sure if we will be back. There are better places Rochester for Mexican food. On a side note - we watched a guy across the room get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend, and she said yes. Love was in the air.

My favorite Mexican food in Rochester. Just had a great lunch. The service is excellent and everything is consistently good.

It has been quite some time since we have eaten here. We remembered the food as good even if the facility was a little rough back then. So we were pleasantly pleased that the restaurant has been nicely redecorated & painted. The free chips were good as was the salsa (the creamy dip was so-so). The two dishes we had were good, hot, and plenty (near to much) to eat. We will go back, but still not often. The only reason for 3, instead of more, stars is that this is MN Mexican food, far from what I might call real (but hey, this is MN). Also it was not tops for clean, the menus had dried salsa on them, the seats and floors had crumbs (as in the table was cleaned by pushing stuff to the floor). Nothing to bad, but not what it could be.

This place is wonderful! Don't judge a book by the cover (the exterior needs some love), because it may be the best Mexican food in Southern MN. Large portions, fair prices and fast and very friendly service! We will be back!!!

Passing through and hoping for decent Mexican food. Not too bad for what I expected. Chips were good and salsa decent they served ranch with the chips. Had the steak and chicken fajitas and was pleasantly surprised. Could have had a little more flavor and a little more spice bit would come here again given past experiences in this town.

Looks they did a remodel job on most of the place. It's much nicer, now. Tacos are awesome. Chips and salsa are awesome. Rice was not very good. It was almost like they just put tomato sauce on it. Salsa helped. I'll probably be back, but it'll be awhile.

Decent local Mexican food. Just a little odd that the menus had the name and location of another restaurant on the cover.

Fair Mexican fair. Food tasted cheap, like the chicken was canned, store bought tortillas, and perhaps canned sauces. Great service though!

This review pertains to lunch time service at Dos Amigos. What gives me the authority in knowing Mexican food, nothing. I'm just a white guy who lived in SoCal the past 8 years, so I think I have a pretty good understanding what good Mexican food is. This place definitely is not. Pros: Quick service, friendly atmosphere, decent size menu. Cons: List is big - Salsa resembles tomato paste with some sort of herb in it. Quite possibly the worse salsa I have ever had in my life. Also, who has heard of ranch dressing for tortilla chips. Really authentic guys. - Dang near everything on the menu seemed to have nacho cheese sauce on it. I am under the impression they attempt to hide the poor quality of their food with it. - I ordered the enchilada supremas (one beef, one chicken, one cheese). They were cold, the beef was just ground beef with taco seasoning, the chicken was about the same as the beef and the cheese was only cheese. It's nothing I'd write home about.

So this is the only Mexican place I've been to in Rochester and for the sake of its residents I really hope there is better. The only reason I give it two stars is because of the parrilladas (and the owners seem nice); if I ever have to go there again, that's what I'll order. What I want to know is why in the hell would a Mexican place serve you ranch dressing with your chips and salsa? Seriously?! Also, the salsa they serve is not good. At least there are jumbo margaritas for like seven bucks to buzz you up whilst you consume incredibly mediocre "Mexican" food covered in melted cheese, bland sauce and shredded lettuce. I honestly think these owners had to dumb down their food for the city of Rochester.

Service was fast and friendly. Food was served hot but nothing too special. Had the Enchilada Supremas.

Very good mexican food and fast efficient service. The parrilladas are excellent, although they should just call them fajitas so mexican-food-challenged people will know what to expect.

I had a bad experience at Dos Amigos II, so I was reluctant to visit this one. Regardless, I decided to give it a fair shot. I was so disgusted by the service that I have vowed to never again return. Here's how it went down: Took my girlfriend here for dinner on a Friday night. We weren't too hungry or thirsty, so we figured we'd just get one entree and one drink and split them. We put in our order for one combo plate and one regular "jumbo" margarita to share. A couple of minutes later, our waiter came out with two margaritas for us. Hmm, they must have split the margarita into two cups for us. How nice! When we got the bill, it turned out that he had ordered us two separate margaritas AND opted us for top-shelf liqour. I was expecting to pay $10 for one margarita, and he was charging me $30 for two top-shelf margaritas. No way! I flagged down the waiter and explained that there must have been a misunderstanding, because we only requested one margarita. I also told him we just requested "regular" margaritas and not "top-shelf." "Oh, well, you already drank them" "That doesn't matter. We ordered one to share and just figured you split it into two glasses" "Well, what do you want me to do--you already drank them" "I want you to charge me for what I ordered" "I can't do that" "Yes you can. I am *not* paying for something I didn't order" "Ok, well, I'll just charge you for one but you pay for the Patrón" "No! I didn't order top-shelf!" He finally caves and begrudgingly re-rings our bill. Took him about 15 minutes to get this done. Then, I put my credit card in the card holder and waited for him to pick it up. Within 15 minutes, he never picked it up. Ended up just paying cash. I didn't want to tip such horrible service, but my girlfriend convinced me to leave 15%. The food was mediocre, and they try to cheat customers with horrible service. Never coming here again. Never.

The best Mexican food I've had in Rochester. That's not saying a whole lot. The chips were good-the enchiladas were passable, and although I didn't have one the margaritas were huge! Great service-a good place to go with friends.

We went to Dos Amigos a couple of weeks ago, and I don't think we'll be back. The food was... just okay. But it was the service that made this visit an unpleasant experience. The person that seated us was nice enough, but the server bordered on rude. Maybe he (didn't get his name) was having a bad night, or even a bad week, but that doesn't excuse his total lack of any friendliness whatsoever. We were all joking that we should have gone to Taco Bell instead. It was a waste of money going there.

This place has gone way downhill. The beef in my enchiladas tasted like dishwater. My wife couldn't eat really anything on her sampler. There was just no taste to anything. The rice was bland. This used to be a regular place for us. We will not be going back. The menu has changed. They no longer have the options I used to order and enjoy. It's not cheap either.

Service was sub-par and the food was not much better. There are better places for Mexican food in town. The chips were the best part of the meal.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
