My first visit was for lunch the other day with coworkers. I had the shrimp and veggie tempura bento box and it was excellent. All the bento boxes come with miso, salad, 4 pieces of California roll sushi, rice, and 2 mini egg rolls, all for just over $10. I'm not someone that gets sold just on quantity, everything was also very good. Everyone else in my group was happy with their food. Service was solid. I'll definitely come back.

If we are not careful my wife and I might become "regulars" having come here 3 times in 2 weeks. Consistently good food and friendly, fast service. More sushi lovers in Plymouth, Wayzata area should give this place a shot! Tonight was the Mayflower Roll chef special. Absolutely delicious. Happy Hour 2 for 1 house wine an added bonus.

The service here is excellent and everything was cooked to perfection. Both the hibachi and the regular food is delicious and they have a wonderful lunch menu. I will be back here often.

My family has dined here twice having hibachi both times. I highly recommend it. The show is more exciting than Benihana and it is definitely faster. The food was very tasty. I had steak and shrimp ( just steak, not filet). I found the steak to be of much better quality than Benihana's. My steak and shrimp were not served with teriyaki sauce, just butter, garlic, a little soy and saki. Both were delicious. I actually prefer that they do not cut up the shrimp (the tail shells are removed). You also get noodles with the meal. Both times we all had enough leftovers for another meal. Our service was great both times. I do have to say the shrimp sauce is not as good as Benihana's, tastes a little mayo'ish, but the ginger sauce makes up for it, it's really good. Overall we would definitely choose to come here again over Benihana both for value and food quality.

My husband and I tried to go here for Valentine's day. They had offered a $20 Groupon for $40 worth of food around the holidays and after carefully reviewing the criteria, we purchased it. It was good every Friday/Saturday until February 19 and there were no blackout dates and nothing mentioned about it not being able to be used on holidays. However, after we drove almost an hour to get to the restaurant last night, we were told by the manager when we tried to get a table that they would not be accepting any Groupons, etc that night. (The couple behind us had the same issue.) I pointed out to the manager (as did the other couple) that there was no note of this on the Groupon (that it would not work on holidays, or that it would not work on a specific weekend). He said that he was sorry, but it would not be accepted and that we could come back tonight, February 15, the last night it was available for use since ours is Fri/Sat only. After a two hour round trip only to be turned down by a nearly empty restaurant (we tried to go for an early dinner so we wouldn't have to deal with crowds) on Valentine's Day, no thanks! This company COMPLETELY RUINED our Valentine's Day! I will never support this business again.

Great hibachi grill dinner and experience. We had a groupon for Saturday night and had the filet mignon and shrimp with the fried rice upgrade. The veggies, salad, and noodles were delicious too. Even though we had reservations at 7:00 the chef couldn't come to our table until 7:55. Minus the wait time it was a fun dinner. The highlights were the free sake that the chef squirts in your mouth with a plastic bottle and trying to catch the flying cucumbers in your mouth that the chef slings towards everyone.

This place is great! Wonderful food and wonderful service. If you're lucky Yoyo will will help you and she is a peach! Definitely must go to place for sushi in western burbs.

Excellent sushi! Reasonable prices along with some great food and drink specials. We've been there at least 6 times now and tried everything from the sushi, lunch specials, hibachi grill and some desserts and have yet to be disappointed! Good and attentive wait staff and the hibachi chefs do a great job in their entertaining. Highly recommended.

Sakana sushi & Japanese BBQ, finally gave it a try after I've heard some reviews from friends. Some loved some hated. Of course if we compare it to California or Las Vegas dining it will never be as good. I recommend making reservations because there's only a few grills and it gets super packed. We got seated right away but it took 10 minutes to get water and another 20 to put in out order!!! Service is horrible but the waitress said she was new and her first night working a busy dinner shift. There are packages for the BBQ. Dinner for 2,4,&6. The pricing is high compared to other places I've eaten at but given this is Minnesota & one of the first BBQ places to open up. The soup & salad were delicious! Best I've had actually. Our dinner for 2 came with soup, salad, tuna, BMW roll, 3 different meats, and shrimp. Our sushi roll was served with no soy sauce....ok we asked for soy & she came back 15 min later with it. There was lots of waiting for service with this waitress. I couldn't get mad though, she had the entire back room full of customers and only her to serve. The food was flavorful, cane with sides that was unlimited. Only downfall is it didn't come with any dipping sauces like your traditional BBQ places but it was still good. I'd recommend giving it a try. There is more than enough good you will get full. This will definitely help cure your cravings if you're missing food on the west coast.

I went there because my Korean friend said they have Korean BBQ which I love. But found out to be a n Asian (con)fusion! I ordered sushi and "Japanese " BBQ, filet and shabu. It's great to have that Korean BBQ table but not authentic at all. For me those lots of small plates vegetables are very very important but they are very poor. Meat seems fair bit one piece of sushi (I ordered some 6 pcs) I guess hamachi was obviously not fresh from smell. Service was a bit slow considering it was not crowded at all that time and I was with only one friend of mine. Well I will be there again to try other Korean foods. From menu I guess I go back with more guys and order dinner for 4 or 6. Should be fun to fill that Korean BBQ table with friends.

Minnesotas first Japanese/korean bbq. We did the 2 for 75 with a side of pork belly. We started off with the miso soup and salad. The miso soup was warm, it wasn't hot. So warm that the seaweed in it wouldn't even unravel :/ As for the salad, I don't really care for salads but it came with a ginger dressing. We also got hot tea that was warm tea. .. Next we had the peppered tuna which was great, nice, thick, and juicy. Mmm. Followed by the bmw roll. Now it got to this point where I realized we didn't get soy sauce trays cause they already put the soy sauce on our roll. ..?that's a little weird and I've never seem it done like that anywhere before. The roll was okay. I felt like you couldn't really taste the fish cause the fried texture takes away all of the attention. Not really a roll I would order but it was good. Now, on to the good stuff! The price of this package is actually really good considering you get shrimp. I've been to a couple places like this in Chicago and I feel like this price is a little over priced, but it is the first one in Minnesota, so you might as well bank off of it. You get 4 sides, a paste, kimchi, pickled cucumber (the skin is still on-which makes it bitter), and jalapeños and garlic. The package also comes with lettuce so you can wrap it and an assorted veggie dish to grill. The meats are already pre-marinated. Some of the cuts are very thick while some are very thin. The meats are fresh, as well as veggies, which is nice. Marinade is good, you can definately still taste it after its cooked. After you're meal is done you get to make smores for dessert. It's a little weird cause they just take off the top of the grill and you make it inside of the grill but it works. Now, I have to say this place is kind of hidden. Their wooden seats do not have padding or cushions. So eat fast before your butt stats to hurt!

What?!?! Amazing Sushi out in the 'burbs. I didn't believe it but its true! Not to knock the burbs of course but I have been living in downtown Minneapolis until recently and have been spoiled with some good sushi. Well Sakana is even better than a lot of the main joints in Minneapolis. Fantastic service also made this place my new go to spot. The cream cheese wontons come with shrimp sauce - that alone should make you stop reading this and get over there. In addition to delicious rolls they have an array of non-sushi dishes for your squeamish friends. One in our group had an udon noodle bowl which looked tasty. Ill be back soon...probably tomorrow.

CONGRATULATIONS MN for finally opening a KBBQ/JBBQ! It's the first in MN and I can't wait until they open more. 4 stars for the service here! Everyone was super nice and you can tell they worked as a team. We had our waters filled before it hit half empty. Empty plates were taken away very quickly. Now to get to what is even more important is the food! We came here with 2, so we ordered their meal for 2. It came with the miso soup and salad- which, I honestly didn't really care for. The soup was nothing special and same goes for the salad. Next came the sushi tool and tuna- the sushi was okay (BMW roll). It wouldn't be something I specially come in and order. The tuna was delicious! I would of ordered more of that for sure! Next came out all the meat! - I want to say that the meat we had for 2 was pretty basic for KBBQ. It was sliced nice and thin. More importantly the meat was nice and tender! The only downside to all of this is that there were only 3 types of sauces :(! They all tasted like they came out of a bottle. The last thing you get is the s'mores! I thought this was really weird thing to mix into your meal. Give this place a try! It's an experience you won't forget!

Summary: - Japanese BBQ is delicious and unique in MN - Sushi rolls during happy hour and inexpensive and fresh - Service was good --- Getting Asian BBQ used to require going on a mythical after long pilgrimages to places like far-away places Los Angeles, Atlanta, or DC. It seems that my prayers have been answered because I can now get delicious grilled meats in my back yard. You may not be able to tell over this text but I WAS AND AM SO EXCITED!! Sakana did not disappoint. I came with my mom on a random Tuesday night and got seated immediately at the BBQ table. I WAS STARVING cause I had just run six miles. The restaurant was sparsely packed, but my only thought was that it meant the food would come out faster. The waiter, who ended up speaking Chinese with us, informed us that it was happy hour. Hell yeah. I went ham and ordered a sashimi sampler, a salmon roll, galbi beef short ribs, scallops, asparagus, and sweet potatoes. The sushi and sashimi came out pretty fast and I was satisfied with the freshness of it. The waiter brought out little bon chon dishes (side dishes in Korean) of kimchi radish, preserved cucumbers, soybean paste, and some lettuce for wrapping up the meats. Can you say free refills?? Then, the stuff to grill came and I was drooling. The beef grilled quickly was excellently tender. The scallops were equally delicious and the asparagus was great. We grilled the food ourselves but that wasn't really a problem cause I've done it many times before, though newbies may want to ask for a little help on cooking times. Cooking the meats and veggies myself definitely made me more invested in it, adding to the enjoyment. In the end, the check wasn't too expensive for the quantities of food that we ordered. Yelp even provided me with a 10% off coupon for checking in at the location. Go Yelp. Overall, I think this has become one of my favorite restaurants in Plymouth, allowing me to get me degenerate fix of KBBQ (technically JBBQ but I'm not sure what the difference is) and Sushi.

I ate here on Wednesday evening while I was in the twin-cities area for business. The sashimi was fantastic (fresh and nice portions). I've never heard of some of the rolls, perhaps I'm a sushi purist. Staff were polite and kept us satisfied.

On our way to Dave and Busters in Maple Grove, we decided to Yelp a good restaurant we've never tried before. Sakana had great ratings and we were hungry for sushi but we couldn't believe we'd never heard of it before! We were in luck to discover we had 30 minutes of happy hour and lots of specials to choose from when we bellied up to the sushi bar. We chose two 5-piece Sushi Samplers, a Spicy Salmon roll (with cucumber and avocado), a Spicy Girl roll (special roll on HH special), and a Yellowtail Jalapeño roll. We also got edamame and two glasses of house HH wine. The sushi chefs were polite but not overly friendly and by fluke did give us a nice complimentary app of Fluke Fish slightly toasted. It was really good and a first for us! The cuts of meat were outstanding portions, the best I've had in the Twin Cities! I'm not a big fan of Yellowtail because of its slightly fishier flavor but this was the first time I've had Yellowtail so sweet and fresh I loved it. I can't believe that with all of the sushi we got (we are big eaters and we were gorged) plus the wine only came to $51. What a great deal! We'll be back for sure!

I was super excited when I found out about this place. Finally an open grill restaurant! I'll take it. Sure I can do it at home, but it's really about the experience for me. First off I went with 5 family members on the day before July 4th. We reserved it at 11:30 AM for lunch. Once we were there, we looked through the menu, and found that they had different course options for large groups. There was one for 2 people, 4 people, and 6 people. The price for the courses were really fair - seeing that we can split it among 6 people. In addition there were la carte options. We decided to go with the 4 people course and ordered additional dishes and sushi on the side in addition with some drinks :). Any who, the course came with two plates of sushi and miso soups. We also ordered two rolls off their sushi menu, not knowing we'd get sushi with the course meal - but not a biggie. When all the ingredients finally came around, we were sooo excited. We got a lot of meat! There must have been about 6 plates of meat: beef, chicken, shrimp, and squid. The portion size was also very good. The meat was marinated just right. The squid was probably my least favorite - as it didn't have much flavor and got too hard to chew once we cooked it. We got a few small side dishes of pickled potatoes, seaweed, cucumbers, among a some others that I can't recall. It's not the same as Korean side dishes, but not going to complain. Our server was also amazing! He was really informative and took care of our grill when it needed to be changed. He was also also responsive to our needs :) For being the first place in MN to have this type of dining experience, I think they are doing it right. Granted we did go right in the morning when it was slow and quiet. So I'd be curious to experience it again in the evening and when it's busy.

You'll leave Sakana with a skip in your step and a happy tummy. An all-around solid sushi joint. I swung in for a few rolls on HH for dinner, wasn't feeling one of the 100 chain/fast food places over populating the suburbs. My experience from start to finish was so enjoyable and tasty! People - Friendly. Attentive (even when I was only drinking water). Quick. Sushi - Fresh. Great flavors. Heavy on fish, light on the rice. Great deals on rolls for HH. Spicy salmon/tuna/yellowtail 6 piece rolls for $4.95. Speciality 8 piece rolls for $10. Ginger was the best I've had; I could eat a bowl of it! Environment - Lively, but not obnoxious. Trendy for a suburb. I will be going again and again. Try them out! You won't regret it. Plus that are adding a Japanese grill. More great culinary adventures to be offered soon!

I went there for the Japanese BBQ. First one in MN is what that waitress told me. EVERYONE IT IS NOT KOREAN BBQ. I just want to make that clear. There is a difference between the two. Well, we ordered off the a la carte menu. Their menu also offers a selection based on how many people you were with. We wanted more of a certain type of mean (pork belly) and thats why we did a la carte. We ordered the kalbi and pork belly (it was cut pretty thick, I'm not use to it since I normally go get korean bbq and they slice it thinly). We got it both in the miso marinate, which is similar to the korean red sauce, gochujang. I thought the portion was a little steam for the price $8-$9. I think $5-$6 would of been more appropriate. There were no sauce to dip your meat in afterwards. I was hoping there was something but nope, nada! They did provide lettuce to make it into a lettuce wrap. In the end they give you stuff to make smores and I thought that was a nice touch. Service was pretty slow and we didn't go when it was busy. There were only two other tables. Had to call the waitress over a few times but then again the waitress was also the bartender. The waitress was very nice though. I wouldn't go back. I can make my own korean bbq at home and it would taste better and be much more affordable. I guess I'm not a japanese bbq kinda person....

I hadn't great time here! We came at 1 P.M. after the lunch rush. My husband and I spent like $80 on ala cart BBQ grill. I consider it decent pricing. There was also BBQ grill for two people for I think $75 and it came with soup, meats, and a dessert. Our waitress was really friendly and the others waiters came to check on us too. The meat took a little while to come out but it was total worth it because it's fresh! My favorite meats would have to be the pork belly, ribeye, and lamb chops. The fresh squid comes with a yummy paste too! Omg just thinking about it makes my mouth water. This is the first actually indoor grill spot for MN that I've ever seen. I went to an authentic Korean BBQ grill in Chicago and its nothing compared to this place. I recommend this place!

I went here for lunch with some friends. We ordered the $145 combo as it was recommended by our server. The server for our table was extremely friendly and informative. He was very active and often asks us how we were doing. Honestly, he is probably the best server I ever had in years. The food here was also very good. I'd say that it is on par with the food in Socal or maybe even better, especially the fried rice (it was super delicious). I'd definitively come here again when I visit Minneapolis.

Alot of people have been talking about this place since its the first establishment to offer grilling at the table. Yes it's cool to finally see this in mpls but this place has alot of work to do. I'll summarize my review here so you can skip the rant below. If you need a bbq fix then this isn't bad but if you travel at all out of mpls then just skip this place. Let's start with the good. The restaurant looks new/modern and is clean. The layout is sushi up front and bbq in the back. The meat had decent flavors. Now onto the bad. We walked in and were immediately greeted. They asked if we were there for sushi of bbq. We said bbq and were asked to wait. There were only 2 other groups there. After a few minutes we were seated at a dirty table, WTF. The waitress seats us then starts cleaning the table while there are 6 other clean tables we could've sat at. The menu is simple. There are a few set meals for groups of 2, 4 or 6 otherwise you can order things individually. We ordered individually. After we placed our order it took about 15mins for them to bring out 4 sides and a plate of lettuce and hot rice. Another 10mins later and we got our meats with no tongs. By this time out rice was cold. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that all the meats should already be marinated. When an order comes in does it really take 25mins to plate up 4 pieces of beef from the tub? For the rib eye we got 4 pieces of beef. The whole time we're waiting the staff is just hanging around the dining room and chatting. Once in awhile the other 2 tables would wave them down and someone would bring something out for them. During our 1.5hour meal my drink was not topped off once. The server probably visited our table 4 times including taking our order and bringing our food out. The place started getting smokey too so about half way into our grilling they turn on the hoods. So basically service sucks at this place and its over priced for what you get. The food was okay. Bbq is easy and you can do it at home. The whole point of going out is to enjoy your meal and not have to do all the prep work.

First time there. Sushi was fresh and tried their new Japanese bbq grill. Is similar to Korean bbq so this is going to be a new hit for sure. Will go again. Price is kinda spendy but you will get full fast. This is better then the habachi cooking. You get to grill and eat fresh at the same time.

After all, it seems to be the ONLY one Korean/Japanese-style hibachi near Minneapolis... The meat was good but over-priced.

Not only is the food great so is the customer service experience and genuine concern for their patrons. My children's first time eating Japanese... They enjoyed the hibachi dinner. While, one moment where my son thought he lost my iPod in their restaurant, actually turned out to be a night to remember, his little sister had it the whole time, we (staff, my son and I) were looking for it every where. I'm so sorry about the hunt, but thank you for everything! We will be back soon and often!

I've been eating sushi (not rolls, but real raw fish) since I moved to California a dozen years ago. I was a bit hesitant about sushi in Minneapolis, especially in the suburbs, and even more so after they asked if I wanted any other utensils other than chopsticks, but this place is pretty solid. I got the Groupon and felt it was well worth it. I went on a weekday lunchtime so it was mostly empty, but service was friendly and good regardless. Food came quickly and water glass refilled a few times before it even got half empty. The miso soup was unremarkable. The salad had a bit too much dressing. The sushi and sashimi combo had nice cuts of salmon, tuna, and albacore sashimi with white tuna, salmon, hamachi, and tuna nigiri. Tuna was deep red, salmon was buttery, but they both had a really mild fish flavor that most probably won't notice. The orange was nice presentation but I didn't care for the slight citrus flavor it imparted. Also ordered hamachi and o-toro nigiri, which were both bigger than the nigiri in the combo. Hamachi was good. O-toro was well marbled and melt in your mouth, but had big sinews, which disrupted the meltiness. On one hand, they might have tried to compensate by making the cut larger (as long as my middle finger), but on the other hand that made me try to eat it in two bites which resulted in chewing through the sinews and destroying it. All in all, I think I'd be satisfied if I got the same deal and meal in L.A..

Let me start off by saying this place is awwwwesome. Here's my experience: I came here with my girlfriend because we wanted to try something new. We were greeted by this wonderful manager/bartender named Nikki! She was extremely horrible.. a little cool... okay, fine. The "cooler than the other side of the pillow" Nikki brought us to our tables and had drinks lined up for us in a heartbeat. The food there was wonderful, and in my opinion a lot better than Benihanas! Alcoholic beverages was top-notch! Environment was chill, like the cold Minnesota weather (In a good way!) I highly recommend you sushi/drink lovers to come and have a sweet time at Sakana!

I just had their BBQ tonight and was really not impress. The meat took quite a bit to come out. We ordered the sirloin, ribeye, short rib, pork belly, pork loin, and calamari. The ribeye was cut way too thin, the pork belly was chewy, the seasoning on the meat was barely flavorful. The only one that I enjoyed was the pork loin that was marinated in miso. The price of their order is comparable to good yakiniku in order towns but their quality of meat is Def not on pars. This dinner tasted like something that I could make I home and I'm sure I could make it better. Being the first open flange BBQ I didn't expect too much but it still didn't meet the lowered expectations. It's Def not worth the money in my opinion.

I am definitely a fan here! My friends and I recently came here to check out their happy hour sushi and I loved it! You could find a lot of options on their HH menu under $15. I really enjoyed their Salmon Poke. It was very fresh and tasty. Their food quality is great. My friends and I basically ordered almost everything on their HH, and I was surprised to find our bill was not that bad. Also, I really enjoyed their Lychee martini. They have many option of drinks to choose from on their HH list. .Since this place is so new, the staffs are very friendly and fast. I had a really great time and I would definitely come here again because the atmosphere is so welcoming. Almost forgot, their bathroom is pretty cool. They have loud cool music playing with blue and green lights inside the bathroom. Almost felt like you are in a club. Here's my Fantastic Four list: Food is great. Fast service. Friendly staffs. Free parking. :) Enjoy!

Pow! Stopped in for a lunch special. Benihana doesn't have anything on this place. Paid $10 for kung pao beef lunch bento. Bento means single portion takeout meal apparently. The amount of food I received was enough to feed a small family. The meal came with veggie spring rolls, 4 pcs of small california rolls, miso soup and a house salad. They didn't skimp on the beef or the flavor. I will be going back!

I've been searching for a Korean BBQ style with table top grilling in MN for awhile and this first restaurant that actually has it! We had a group of 9 and did the feed for 6 for $185 with a side of pork belly & then lamb chops. Surprisingly there was a lot of food! They start you off with delicious small appetizers like endammame, beef tataki, tuna salad, and sushi rolls. Then they bring out the meat like chicken, beef ribs, and filet mignon and the grilling process starts. Everything was well marinated and seasoned. My favorite was the lamb chops and the chicken. Once your done eating they finalize it with making your own smores. I have to say it was an awesome experience. Not to mention the awesome service we got. Shout out to our server Nate for showing us a good time he did an awesome job! And thank you to the manager who gave us a free round of shots! I will definitely recommend this to all my friends and family!

We went here a few months ago and were hopeful that we'd found a sushi place we could call our regular place. Unfortunately, we got 2 orders into the evening and gave up. The cuts of tuna were thin, extremely cold, and not good quality. But what stopped us cold was watching the chef wipe our freshly cut piece of salmon on the white dish towel laying next to him. A dish towel! The same towel he wiped the counter down and his hands with. And it wasn't just our order, every ticket he was serving was wiped on this towel. We asked for our check right then and there. In all farirness, it has been a few months since we first went, but as I peruse Yelp for some recommendations for sushi, it's time to post our review...perhaps it's changed or maybe even improved since. Regardless, we won't be going back.

We went there for the hibachi dinner. Even though it was just the two of us at the hibachi table, the hibachi chef still put on the whole show. It was really fun and the chef was really entertaining. I ordered the scallops. It was a tiny bit over cooked but was still nice. My bf got beef and chicken. They were both nicely done and full of flavor. The mixed veg was also nice. The rice and the noodle though werent memorable .. pretty greasy and not very flavorful. Overall, it was still a very fun, very entertaining, and pretty good food.

Strip mall sushi in the burbs of MN is always a gamble, but this one paid off with good sushi, great potion, and gigantic pieces of fish! Service was great as well and surprising as it may seem, when the bill came it was all smiles and discussions around when we are coming back next. Refreshing to find a diamond in the strip mall every once in a while. 4 guys with drinks and more food than we could eat for less than $40 per person.

Giving the star rating based on comparison to other sushi restaurants. Not bad, but not great. They have really good happy hour and atmosphere. I do like the fact they play house/techno/edm music or however you want to classify it. I went with my wifey and her co-worker for their late happy hour and it was good. They may or may not have a secret menu that you can ask for :) with a bunch more rolls on it. The fish was fresh the day I went, but the server was pretty new to the sushi business and wasn't very knowledgeable but luckily I knew a thing or two. I like the fact it is in close proximity to mi casa and they have happy hour late night. I dont always like to drive down to Fujiya to get my sushi fix. Final word: Will be returning, for sure for happy hour. I would gauge this right below Masu for their sushi and better then the other strip mall sushi joints. But nothing too much out of the ordinary.

I had let my sushi craving build up and Sakana did not disappoint. My first time here is for lunch on a Saturday which means I could not order the sushi lunch. My bill was a little more than I thought it would be. The food was completely worth it. The seaweed salad was crunchy flavorful--it was not too oily. It is a really big serving though so be ready to take a box home if you are dining alone. The BMW roll was crunchy on the outside and luscious on the inside. Just these two items and I'm stuffed. The sauces complimented and did not overwhelm the roll--a sign of real craftsmanship. The decor is soothing without being pretentious. I'll be back.

Service was horrible. We went on a Friday night . As for the food the gyoza was great. Sushi and edamame not fantastic. took server almost 15 mins to get 2 glass of water. would never ever come back to this place.
Great food & service! Yoyo is the best! Dragon roll is my fav and yum yum will come again thanks

I love the food and the service here. I would highly recommend the wasabi Bloody Mary and any of the sushi rolls that Dan recommends! The fish here is always fresh! My favorite rolls are spicy girl, 007, sumo roll, winter roll, samurai roll and hello kitty roll. :) The hibachi is also really tasty. I always get the shrimp and steak.

Fairly decent sushi for the midwest. Shrimp fried rice had lots of shrimp and was not too oily. Will try the hibachi next time I visit.

Sushi is great!!!!! not a fan of the chicken satay though. Tea is very good! Bar is awesome! For all the long island lovers out there try the Tokyo Tea. it is yummys!!!! I really love the beef fried rice, they don't have that on the menu but you can always ask to substitute. Flavors are always fresh and scrumptious! I've gone here several times and they are NOT shady about putting the right amount of seaweed into the Miso soups. YUM!! also the clear onion soup is legit folks! YUM AGAIN!! The house teriyaki sauce is wonderful but the chicken could get dry too sometimes, I guess the fresh steamed veggies make up for it =]

I only had the sushi and I must say that it was some of the best sushi I've had. It appears they have a pretty good happy hour starting around 830. Definitely worth checking out of driving into Minneapolis or St. Paul is not on your agenda.

Food was ok sushi was not fresh and not tasty, service is good and bit they need to work on their sushi, with fresher products.

One of the best sushi spots in the cities. Consistently good, fresh, and fairly priced. My new favorite restaurant! The sushi chefs are awesome, the servers are great. Fast service every time. A gem for sure.

At first glance, I wasn't sure about this place - just another sushi place in a strip mall - but was pleasantly surprised. The edamame was hot with just the right amount of salt, the Sake list was decent and had several quality and affordable options. Moving on to the sushi options... The rolls on the menu looked unique but maybe a little spendy for a place in a strip mall (just a little), however when we got the two rolls "White Tiger" and the "Pink Panther" they were huge and it was not from the rice filling - there wasn't any rice in either of the rolls. We also ordered two of our favorite sashimi items - Eel and white (or super white) tuna. A flavor suggestion if you have never tried it, ask for thinly sliced (as this as they can be cut) lemon to go with the white tuna. The order - including the thinly sliced lemon - came back perfect from the chef and we were very impressed with everything! We stopped by because it was close to our place and we had a groupon or living social package that we purchased. I would recommend stopping by, you will not be disappointed.

Cheaper hibachi than Benihana, we decided to give it a try. (As someone who has been going to Benihana for 25 years, keep in mind my review is skewed.) Pros: -FAST! Benihana can take close to two hours at times from start to finish. We were done in less than 45 (granted, the place was completely empty). -They use fire. It's been probably 15+ years since they've lit oil on fire at Benihana. Neat. -Yummy, garlicky yakisoba noodles come with the meal. -Approximately 30% cheaper. Cons: -Pretty much everything made on the grill was covered in a soy or teriyaki sauce. I guess that's okay for the veggies, and maybe the chicken, but I want my steak plain. -The sauces just weren't as good. I think I could taste the ketchup in both the shrimp sauce and the ginger salad dressing. -Fewer "tricks" - a lot less knife work. For example, they don't cut the shrimp up at all, or even remove the tails. -The fried rice only has egg in it - no veggies or chicken. If you want some quick hibachi, and you've experienced Benihana already, this might be your place.

What I love most about Sakana is the creativity they apply when you tell them what you like and let them create! The rainbow Poke is amazing!!!

Excellent place for sushi. If you live out in the western part of the metro and don't feel like going dt or uptown for sushi, this is a great alternative. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Have been coming here for awhile now and will continue to do so.

Returned for happy hour, was not disappointed. Chicken satay + dipping sauce, calamari (again), various sushi, all delicious and immaculately presented. "Yoyo" was attentive and welcoming. Our little gem in Plymouth. Glad to see a busy restaurant here. Will return soon!

Had dinner with the family on a Thursday night. The server was very nice and the plan has decent decor. That said the fish was not very fresh and I likely will not come back.

First timer - love the ambience - Philadelphia rolls - chicken lettuce wraps , shrimp tempura, pork dumplings(pot stickers) all excellent! Mai tai and wine to round out the meal. It is quiet here (Sunday night) service fast and food hot and fresh - oh bonus treat (on the house) fresh melon and light chocolate !

Our server YoYo was very nice. The sushi was decent. I ordered the Kung Pao Steak which was delivered more than 15 minutes after my wife's sushi plate came. My meal was luke warm and very bland. The description indicated mine should have been spicy with Szechuan pepper corns, but tasted of soy sauce only. It was our first time there and we most likely will not return.

Tried this restaurant last week for lunch and was very surprised. It's located in a strip mall across from a Cub foods, but the decor had a clean yet trendy Asian flare. Only the view over looks a parking lot, but that's not what people come here for. We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Combo Lunch and the 3 Maki Roll Lunch Combo. The sushi was fresh and had a perfect balance of rice and fish. The Sashimi was generous in portion, so I appreciate that they didn't skimp. This came with Soup or Salad, which were ok but nothing to rave about. The California rolls that came with it was also pretty much your standard fare. The 3 rolls we ordered were pretty basic as well. Spicy Snow Crab Roll, Spicy Tuna roll, and a Salmon roll. All the rolls were generous in portion and relatively tasty. Much better than Benihana in my opinion. They did mess up the order and got us a spicy yellow tail instead of the Snow Crab Roll. But, when we told them about this they said they would Comp. us the Yellow Tail roll and get us the Snow Crab Roll. That's what I consider good customer service and taking care of your mistakes. The service was relatively fast and they really came though to take care of you and make sure you had a good experience. I'm looking forward to trying this place again!

We moved from downtown Minneapolis to the Plymouth area and have been bemoaning the loss (realistically) of being regulars at Nami and Sushi Tango any more. We're not sad any longer because we had dinner tonight at Sakana. Don't let the location in a random strip mall fool you: this is the real thing. I judge any sushi restaurant on the salmon: is it buttery, sliced perfectly (not thick/not thin) and and melt-in-your mouth. The salmon on my Number 9 roll was all of the above. The pork dumplings were the freshest I can recall in the twin cities. We had given another Plymouth sushi restaurant a try, and despite raves from locals, we were not impressed. But Sakana is really a gem. They have happy hour and a hibachi table/tables. The decor is also contemporary, good low lighting, great light fixtures, some booths and tables and a really good looking sushi bar. It's a small venue but the good kind of small: intimate but not weirdly tiny. Again, everything we tried: dumplings, cream cheese wontons, sushi and some of the most delicious desserts around: mango mousse cake, coconut cake and strawberry mousse cake and mochi, was great. I predict we will be regulars.

Nice atmosphere in assuming strip mall. We didn't sit at the grill (with all the pizzaz from the chef), but we had a great time at a small table. I'd definitely go again.

Wow what a great experience! My boyfriend and I went to Sakana last night to use our Groupon. It was happy hour and we sat at the bar. Our bartender Jordan was so friendly and engaging. He explained we couldn't use our Groupon for HH. Ok - no problem. We had the Gyoza for HH - very good. Great HH prices and selections. After HH, We had 2 rolls - one that's only on the HH menu, but Jordan talked to the sushi chef and they still made it for us after happy hour was over. Sakana Lobster Roll and the Yum Yum roll. Both were excellent. Everyone that works there was so friendly and polite. One of the best restaurant/bar experiences when it came to the staff!! We'll definitely go back and can't wait to bring our friends. The hibachi chefs looked very entertaining also!! They had all their customers laughing!! Loved the atmosphere overall!!

Sakana is the best Hibachi restaurant I have ever been to. The service is phenomenal! Our host for the night, Dan, provided the best service I have had in years! The atmosphere is very fun and the portions are huge! If you are ever looking for a fun affordable dining experience I would recommend you try Sakana!

Tried their sushi, really liked them. I have been there several times, had Sakana rolls and Godzilla rolls, they were all pretty good. I had the miso black cod too, that was alright. Highly recommend their sushi!

My wife and I have been there twice now for Hibachi dinners, and I am pleasantly pleased. We've been to a several other local Japanese steakhouses in the Minneapolis area, and both agree this is the best value and bang-for-your-buck. They are about 30% less expensive (under $20 for single meats, $23 for steak n' salmon) than Benihana and Ichiban. Portions are ample. They are much faster, also. No waiting 20 minutes for a host, then another 20 minutes for apps, etc. They show up and get right to work. I would say, however, they also do less performing (less knife work, flipping eggs around, slicing shrimp, etc.). Still a good show. A little bonus, too, is the host shares a little of his cooking sake and vodka for the willing participant at the tables! That's fun stuff! Additionally, Everyone from hostess to manager is attentive. Service overall is solid. They make you feel important and value you as a customer, not just a number. As for food, overall, we are really impressed. They give you a sample of what everyone else at the table is having, so you get a chance to experience other meat items. A real treat if you are thinking about going back again, and makes me want to try some other dishes. Their creamy dipping sauce is probably mid-tier; not the best, but not the worst. Their ginger sauce is on par with higher-priced venues. Fried rice is also middle of the pack as well. Egg is the only addition beyond the garlic butter and sauces. A little veg would be a nice addition. As with higher-priced venues, you get a broth-soup and ginger salad, but you don't get the chicken liver appetizers or ice cream at the end. I'm okay with that, and would venture to say most others are as well! Overall, this will be my go-to place for Hibachi, and I am eager to try their sushi and happy hours!

Located next to Cub Foods in Plymouth, MN. The place has a nice, modern ambiance with colorful lights, spacious boots/tables, very friendly, attentive and helpful staff, delicious, quite healthy and affordable dishes. Twice got sake drinks for free. When asking for take-outs we received tons of shrimp's sauce for free! I recommend their vegetable fried rice, very nicely seasoned and re-heats well even after 2 days, which to me means they are using fresh and tasteful ingredients. Highly recommend, enjoy!

I am a server and have never heard of a server asking for a tip. I always leave a great tip but when I heard that I was definitely offended. How can someone demand a tip at a buffet especially.disrespectful service

Fabulous sushi and sashimi. If you are a fan os sushi or sashimi, and you're there with only one other person, sitting at the sushi is the best place to eat.

I liked the restaurant, not the best of been to. Definitely above average. Sushi was very good. Hibachi was good as well. Solid 4 stars

:) Enjoy!

Amazing food, amazing service (ask for Ashlee and for her to make you her special Gummi Bear shot) and great sushi. They had the Uni (huge plus) and the rolls were wonderful. Fully enjoyed the sushi bar and its casual atmosphere. Was worth the drive from St Paul.

I only had the sushi and I must say that it was some of the best sushi I've had. It appears they have a pretty good happy hour starting around 830. Definitely worth checking out of driving into Minneapolis or St. Paul is not on your agenda.

Great sushi, plain and simple. Excellent customer service-Yoyo and the rest of the folks up front, Reno and the other sushi ARTISTS... all amazing. Very attentive and generous and if you become a regular, you'll enjoy being a "guinea pig" for new drink, appetizers and rolls.

Nice atmosphere in assuming strip mall. We didn't sit at the grill (with all the pizzaz from the chef), but we had a great time at a small table. I'd definitely go again.

I wish that every positive review I wrote counted toward this restaurant. I love it more and more every time I come back. I have yet to be disappointed. The food is amazing. The people are AMAZING. The service is amazing. I love everything about this place and I will always come back. :)

:) Enjoy!

Excellent place for sushi. If you live out in the western part of the metro and don't feel like going dt or uptown for sushi, this is a great alternative. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Have been coming here for awhile now and will continue to do so.

Tried their sushi, really liked them. I have been there several times, had Sakana rolls and Godzilla rolls, they were all pretty good. I had the miso black cod too, that was alright. Highly recommend their sushi!

A hidden gem! Super good food, staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They have no trouble with my special orders and it keeps me coming back! Prices are extremely reasonable and service is quick. I highly recommend Sakana!

Recommend sitting at the hibachi table I love watching the guy cook the food especially when he does the volcano with fire & their prices are reasonable & I love their sake alcohol drinks

(4)Joey N.

(5)Katie R.
There was so much food! We were all so full! It was fun to eat and grill with friends!
(5)Ken C.
After all, it seems to be the ONLY one Korean/Japanese-style hibachi near Minneapolis... The meat was good but over-priced.
(3)Aiysha M.

I am a server and have never heard of a server asking for a tip. I always leave a great tip but when I heard that I was definitely offended. How can someone demand a tip at a buffet especially.disrespectful service

(5)Jeffrey K.
I liked the restaurant, not the best of been to. Definitely above average. Sushi was very good. Hibachi was good as well. Solid 4 stars
(4)Christophe V.

(4)Kristi P.
I wish that every positive review I wrote counted toward this restaurant. I love it more and more every time I come back. I have yet to be disappointed. The food is amazing. The people are AMAZING. The service is amazing. I love everything about this place and I will always come back. :)
(5)Joshua S.

(3)Rd N.
Great sushi great service I come here pretty often and it's always good food and drinks
(5)Jonathan H.
(5)Mary S.
The sushi is super yummy and they have a good variety to choose from. I would recommend you try it!!!
(4)Matt B.
(5)Michelle C.
Great food, great interior. Lots of seating, spacious. Very quiet on a Saturday afternoon. I recommend the Thai lettuce wrap appetizer!
(5)Neda R.
Great fish and reasonable prices, especially during happy hour. Fillets were fresh and generous!
(5)Soma J.
(4)Adam C.
Service was horrible. We went on a Friday night . As for the food the gyoza was great. Sushi and edamame not fantastic. took server almost 15 mins to get 2 glass of water. would never ever come back to this place.
(1)Trina S.
I think for a date or a small group of friends it would be good to come here. But for a large party...not so much. I went for a birthday dinner, which meant large group, which meant I already prepped myself to be annoyed. I'll get one thing out of the way though. Our server provided really good service considering 1) the large party, 2) it was a Sunday so it wasn't that staffed and 3) the restaurant got pretty busy as the night went on. As for the sushi chef. Sorry no slack. There was ONE sushi chef. I've never worked in the restaurant biz so I can't really talk too much on the whole subject of "Sunday= slow day = staff less = save money". But I guess I'm curious if that's normal? I just think at least 2 sushi chefs should be on staff at all times. It took 1.5 hours for the food to start coming out. Other people swore it took 2, but I doubt it. Call me crazy...but if I had 20+ people waiting on food, instead of pissing off everyone, I would just SLOWLY start bringing out food. I still wonder what that sushi chef was doing with all the rolls he was making. Was he stacking them with the intention of bringing them all out at once? If so, I think that's stupid. For heaven's sake if a ton of people are waiting for over an hour for their food, just start bringing it to them. I got the Korean BBQ Wings and Tuna Poke to start with. The wings...nasty. The sauce was grainy and did not make me think of Korean cuisine. Tuna Poke was SUPER GOOD. I could probably eat that all day. For the entrée I ordered the Wok Grilled Garlic Shrimp. I liked it because it wasn't too salty...always a plus. But I don't think I would order it again. Don't let anyone fool you when they say their shrimp sauce (that kind of salmon/yellow colored sauce they have at Benihanas) tastes just as good or even better than the one at Benihanas. Lies. There is a sushi place in Blaine that DOES make one just as good or even better though...so no I'm not some sort of Benihanas spokesperson lol. Food is good, the place is clean, workers are friendly. Overall I would probably come back, just not in a large group.
(3)Jav V.
Great food & service! Yoyo is the best! Dragon roll is my fav and yum yum will come again thanks
(5)Bonnie N.
(5)Joe S.
Fairly decent sushi for the midwest. Shrimp fried rice had lots of shrimp and was not too oily. Will try the hibachi next time I visit.
(3)Amy C.
YUM AGAIN!! The house teriyaki sauce is wonderful but the chicken could get dry too sometimes, I guess the fresh steamed veggies make up for it =]
(4)James P.
I only had the sushi and I must say that it was some of the best sushi I've had. It appears they have a pretty good happy hour starting around 830. Definitely worth checking out of driving into Minneapolis or St. Paul is not on your agenda.
(4)Adrian J.
Food was ok sushi was not fresh and not tasty, service is good and bit they need to work on their sushi, with fresher products.
(3)Marc W.
One of the best sushi spots in the cities. Consistently good, fresh, and fairly priced. My new favorite restaurant! The sushi chefs are awesome, the servers are great. Fast service every time. A gem for sure.
(5)Nathan A.

(3)Janet M.
What I love most about Sakana is the creativity they apply when you tell them what you like and let them create! The rainbow Poke is amazing!!!
(5)Peter W.
Excellent place for sushi. If you live out in the western part of the metro and don't feel like going dt or uptown for sushi, this is a great alternative. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Have been coming here for awhile now and will continue to do so.
(5)Angie N.
Great food, prices and great customer service. Hibachi chef put on a great show for adults and kids. Sushi was awesome too! Highly recommended.
(5)Steven P.
(5)Lenny K.
Had dinner with the family on a Thursday night. The server was very nice and the plan has decent decor. That said the fish was not very fresh and I likely will not come back.
(2)Liz P.
(5)Tom K.

(5)Linh T.
Service was quick and food was phenomenal!! You won't find another sushi place that is as hospitable as this place!! Everyone is a lot of fun and nice!!!
(5)Paul L.
Nice atmosphere in assuming strip mall. We didn't sit at the grill (with all the pizzaz from the chef), but we had a great time at a small table. I'd definitely go again.
(4)Angie S.
(5)Andrew C.
(5)Chelsea P.
Tried their sushi, really liked them. I have been there several times, had Sakana rolls and Godzilla rolls, they were all pretty good. I had the miso black cod too, that was alright. Highly recommend their sushi!
(4)Chris G.

(5)Adrieanne M.
This place is great! Wonderful food and wonderful service. If you're lucky Yoyo will will help you and she is a peach! Definitely must go to place for sushi in western burbs.
(5)Dave T.
A hidden gem! Super good food, staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They have no trouble with my special orders and it keeps me coming back! Prices are extremely reasonable and service is quick. I highly recommend Sakana!
(5)Alina P.

Recommend sitting at the hibachi table I love watching the guy cook the food especially when he does the volcano with fire & their prices are reasonable & I love their sake alcohol drinks

(5)Katie R.
There was so much food! We were all so full! It was fun to eat and grill with friends!
(5)Ken C.
After all, it seems to be the ONLY one Korean/Japanese-style hibachi near Minneapolis... The meat was good but over-priced.
(3)Kristi P.
I wish that every positive review I wrote counted toward this restaurant. I love it more and more every time I come back. I have yet to be disappointed. The food is amazing. The people are AMAZING. The service is amazing. I love everything about this place and I will always come back. :)

I am a server and have never heard of a server asking for a tip. I always leave a great tip but when I heard that I was definitely offended. How can someone demand a tip at a buffet especially.disrespectful service
(1)Matt N.
(5)Mike Z.
Fabulous sushi and sashimi. If you are a fan os sushi or sashimi, and you're there with only one other person, sitting at the sushi is the best place to eat.
(5)Jeffrey K.
I liked the restaurant, not the best of been to. Definitely above average. Sushi was very good. Hibachi was good as well. Solid 4 stars
(4)Christophe V.
(2)Camille L.

(5)Aiysha M.
(5)Paige S.
It was really good, fresh and the service was fast and very friendly. Very clean and nice atmosphere.
(5)Mike S.
(5)Cindy D.
:) Enjoy!

(1)Mon P.
(4)Jack F.
(3)Rd N.
Great sushi great service I come here pretty often and it's always good food and drinks
(5)Jonathan H.
(5)Mary S.
The sushi is super yummy and they have a good variety to choose from. I would recommend you try it!!!
(4)Soma J.
(4)Adam C.
Service was horrible. We went on a Friday night . As for the food the gyoza was great. Sushi and edamame not fantastic. took server almost 15 mins to get 2 glass of water. would never ever come back to this place.
(1)James P.
I only had the sushi and I must say that it was some of the best sushi I've had. It appears they have a pretty good happy hour starting around 830. Definitely worth checking out of driving into Minneapolis or St. Paul is not on your agenda.
(4)Matt B.
(5)Scott K.
(5)Trina S.
(5)Joe S.
Fairly decent sushi for the midwest. Shrimp fried rice had lots of shrimp and was not too oily. Will try the hibachi next time I visit.
(3)Amy C.
YUM AGAIN!! The house teriyaki sauce is wonderful but the chicken could get dry too sometimes, I guess the fresh steamed veggies make up for it =]
(4)Adrian J.
(5)Paul L.
Nice atmosphere in assuming strip mall. We didn't sit at the grill (with all the pizzaz from the chef), but we had a great time at a small table. I'd definitely go again.
(4)Nathan A.

(5)Linh T.
Service was quick and food was phenomenal!! You won't find another sushi place that is as hospitable as this place!! Everyone is a lot of fun and nice!!!
(5)Angie S.
(5)Steven P.
(5)Lenny K.
Had dinner with the family on a Thursday night. The server was very nice and the plan has decent decor. That said the fish was not very fresh and I likely will not come back.
(2)Liz P.
(5)Tom K.

(4)Mike F.
The service here is excellent and everything was cooked to perfection. Both the hibachi and the regular food is delicious and they have a wonderful lunch menu. I will be back here often.
(5)Chelsea P.
Tried their sushi, really liked them. I have been there several times, had Sakana rolls and Godzilla rolls, they were all pretty good. I had the miso black cod too, that was alright. Highly recommend their sushi!
(4)Sandy B.

(5)Katie R.
There was so much food! We were all so full! It was fun to eat and grill with friends!
(5)Ken C.
After all, it seems to be the ONLY one Korean/Japanese-style hibachi near Minneapolis... The meat was good but over-priced.
(3)Mike S.
(5)Dave T.
A hidden gem! Super good food, staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They have no trouble with my special orders and it keeps me coming back! Prices are extremely reasonable and service is quick. I highly recommend Sakana!

This place is great! Wonderful food and wonderful service. If you're lucky Yoyo will will help you and she is a peach! Definitely must go to place for sushi in western burbs.

Recommend sitting at the hibachi table I love watching the guy cook the food especially when he does the volcano with fire & their prices are reasonable & I love their sake alcohol drinks

(4)Kristi P.
I wish that every positive review I wrote counted toward this restaurant. I love it more and more every time I come back. I have yet to be disappointed. The food is amazing. The people are AMAZING. The service is amazing. I love everything about this place and I will always come back. :)

(4)Joey N.
(5)Rob F.

I am a server and have never heard of a server asking for a tip. I always leave a great tip but when I heard that I was definitely offended. How can someone demand a tip at a buffet especially.disrespectful service

(5)Aiysha M.

It was really good, fresh and the service was fast and very friendly. Very clean and nice atmosphere.

:) Enjoy!

Great sushi great service I come here pretty often and it's always good food and drinks

(5)Mary S.
The sushi is super yummy and they have a good variety to choose from. I would recommend you try it!!!

Great food & service! Yoyo is the best! Dragon roll is my fav and yum yum will come again thanks
(5)Bonnie N.
(5)Joe S.
Fairly decent sushi for the midwest. Shrimp fried rice had lots of shrimp and was not too oily. Will try the hibachi next time I visit.
(3)Amy C.
YUM AGAIN!! The house teriyaki sauce is wonderful but the chicken could get dry too sometimes, I guess the fresh steamed veggies make up for it =]

(4)Steven P.
(5)Lenny K.
Had dinner with the family on a Thursday night. The server was very nice and the plan has decent decor. That said the fish was not very fresh and I likely will not come back.
(2)Liz P.
(5)Tom K.

(5)Andrew C.
(5)Chris G.

(5)Bob T.
(5)B F.
(4)Sandy B.
