Update to review as of August 2014: service is getting really bad. Everybody is working all the tables and taking orders etc. They are busy but not that busy to go nuts over service. Food has also lost its taste and quality and it has only been a few months they have opened.

A person I work with husband helped open this restaurant - we decided to go so I thought I'd write a review as I was really amazed. I am not an expert on Indian food, but I work with a number of folks from India and they pointed me towards some of their favorites. I will not attempt the Indian names, but for apps the Chicken 999 and Chicken 65 were both out of this world. We also tried a dish with fried paneer and chili paste that was new and excellent. For dinner we had a number of dishes....tikka masala's...butter chicken.. hyderabadi dum biryani (a rice dish of sorts that I'm told is very traditional)...every thing we had was tasty...even the garlic naan. One thing they will need to continue to work on is the service - it wasn't bad, but you could tell it was family working that might not have waited tables before - they got the job done, but could use a little coaching. I don't typically venture to a suburb to eat - but if you want authentic Indian food this is worth the trip!

Good food and Great Service ..Must n should try mouth watering fish biryani, Paneer tikka kabob, cut mirchi and Goat Biryani

First time we tried this restaurant. Found it through Living Social. The curries, chicken Hakka noodles and fish curry was very good. Will definitely be back.

My sister and I went here, after I had been here on a business meeting. The time I came here for the business meeting, I had their lunch special, Vegetarian. I loved the Biryani and the Curry. The guest I was with ordered the, Paneer Tikki Masala. I thought it looked very different, but they let me try it and it was AMAZING!!! When my sister and I came the service was excellent, the staff was very friendly and kind. I order the Paneer Tikka Masala, duh, and my sister order the business lunch, Vegetarian. She also enjoyed the Biryani and the Vegetable Curry. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. If you want authentic Indian food and great service this is the place to go.

Last Saturday, I had tray of mutton biryani from here and was quite disappointed the way it seemed to be. They were fine amount of pieces but not enough rice to equal the proportion. At last the tray had meat in it but no rice.....

Excellent Tandoori chicken and the Cut MirchiBajji was also very good. We were eating at a busy time and while the staff was very busy it was easy to get their attention and the service was very good. The atmosphere is family \ casual and relaxed and the prices very reasonable. I would recommend Bawarchi Biryani Point for anyone looking for good Indian food, at reasonable prices in an easy going atmosphere.
(5)Divija K.
Best Indian food in the twin cities. The Biryani is AMAZING!! I went on consecutive weekends just because I couldn't enough of it.

Went there for lunch one day and there was 1 other person there eating. I asked for the mint chutney and they brought over a very small amount. I tried it and it was decent. I asked for some more and the waiter initially didn't believe me then had to check with the chef where that is safe and he said it is ok but would charge me $6 for it. The food was ok after the wait but I would say that their food is overpriced. I would recommend India palace, much tastier and cheaper.

I want to hit myself for going there 2 times despite a bad first experience. Went on a weekday dinner and only 3 tables occupied but the wait seemed 35 mins for food. Taste was good actually and hence a 2 star. The cashier and server were the same. 2nd time I went on 15th Aug with full house and not sure why I even sat as I was expecting delayed service. Good came 35 mins after the order and have to look around for server as they never look at you proactively. Asked for samosa:not available, asked for Dal : not availabe. Then ordered something else and it came super late. Complained about shifty service to server and he said no they were doing fine and lots of people around so I told him it was same when only 3 tables were occupied and then he explained that since there were some festivities chef is not able to cope up. Not my problem. I would never go here and even if the food taste is good.

Good place for the Biryani and Appetizers. They have a special biryani for each day on weekend.(Fri, Sat and Sunday) Try their Chichoo Milkshake. its the best in town and tastes like one from india. almost all the appetizers we tried are good. Rajinikanth Chicken is good but not as u expect with the name. They have the best biryani in Minneapolis area. Quality and Quantity for price is served.
(5)Shyam N.
Ordered chilli prawns which is ok and chicken boneless biryani. These guys want to fool customers. If they don't know how to cook boneless biryani, then they should remove it from their menu. boneless chicken biryani is a basmati rice mixed with butter chicken. Not worth at all. You can try other dishes, if you are near by. Definitely NOT recommended for drive more than 10 miles.
(2)Deep D.
They remove reviews saying it's personal attacks- orfered a chicken boneless biryani for to go around 7:30 PM on sunday and they gave me red colored rice with awful taste. I could only throw it in garbage. When we arrived the restaurant they were saying as it is Sunday night, their business is less than normal but didn't except that they would make the food so bad. This restaurant is sick and they are bad mark on indian food, pathetic a**holes. They just care about money. If the manager really cares about reviews he should really sit in his kitchen and see what the hell their cook is doing inside. You are serving free food to throw something on our face.

My first review on yelp... Due to a pathetic food & service of bawachi biryani.. Visited this place multiple times & food never tasted the same... & from today I'm done... It's enough.. To keep my favorite food item as biryani I think I need to stop visiting here.

I really wanted to like Bawarchi soooo much more than I did. I really enjoy flavorful Asian food, and they definitely provided that. However, the service was very, very poor. Our server said almost nothing to us. We had to call him over to order, then call him over to get a refill on water (which he never brought us) and also had to ask three times for a to-go box. Then had to flag him down again to get our check. Now if the place had been packed, I would understand. However, it was lunch and we were one of four occupied tables - and there were two servers! Lastly, the server didn't even want to look at my wife. Apparently, It was expected that I order for her. He even looked at me when she spoke, as if I was to confirm her order! Ummm. I don't know how things work in India guys, but my lady is in charge of what she wants, not me. The food was terrific. We went with the simple "lunch special", my wife going vegetarian and me, full-on meat eater. Maybe of mild disappointment was that the non-veggie version had chicken in every dish. It would have been nice to have more variety. All of it was very tasty though. Rich, seasoned flavor - honestly some of the best Indian food I have ever had. PLEASE work on the service guys - it was borderline offensive. I may come back for take out, though I don't intend to dine-in any time soon.
(2)Shreyasee K.
They are really lucky their food is so good, their service is really bad and I'm still waiting for my catering order 40 mins after the time I needed it. Would have love to given full five stars, but they really need to do something about service. I will say this only place I've found where the veggie biryani is very flavorful. Don't even miss the meat!
(4)Foodie F.
I agree with the other reviewers that the service was lacking. At first, our server seemed disgusted by us and angry that we came to eat. But I think he's like that because other people are probably rude to HIM, and maybe all servers in general. So, I tried to be extra nice to make his day a little brighter. It worked - by the end of or meal, he was attentive and gracious, and even started smiling more himself. The food was very fresh and flavorful. We ordered palak paneer, which tasted much brighter than other places, and the channa masala tasted complex. The basmati rice was served plain, but had the proper texture and natural nutty flavor that good basmati rice is supposed to have. The butter naan that came with the entree was perfect - somehow light and substantial at the same time, with a crispness outside that belied it's soft interior. The paper roasted dosa was enormous, covering about half the table. The edges were delicate and lacy, which shattered upon contact. The lentil four wafer gradually became a little softer and barely more toothsome toward the center. The only disappointing food item was the mango shake - it was sweeter than most lassi, and not very pronounced mango flavor. No matter, the rest of our meal more than made up for it!

If you like excellent food and abusive service this restaurant is a great choice. If you prefer good service and good food, look elsewhere. I have eaten there about 6 times. The food is excellent. I had read some negative reviews, mainly regarding the service. I had not experienced poor service until today. I took my son there for lunch. My food came out in a timely manner. His did not. I asked twice about his meal, which finally came out about 5 minutes AFTER I finished eating my lunch. No apology, no discount from our waiter. I had to get back to work so I asked the waiter to wrap up my son's meal to go. The waiter scowled at me and muttered something under his breath, that I can only assume was a curse word in his language.
(2)Prasanna K.
This is one of the best place to eat authentic Hyderabadi briyani.. We tried goat briyani it was awesome!!
(5)Venu P.
Good food marred by tardy and rude waiter. He behaves as though he is doing us a favor!
(3)Aditi G.
I visited Bawarchi recently with my family. The place itself looks rundown, and there were not many patrons when we visited on a Friday night. The food tasted pretty good- we got the mattar, the saag, and the chana I believe- but as soon as we got home we all started feeling sick. As an Indian person I would not recommend this restaurant- better off with some place like Taste of India.
(2)Karun Kumar M.
Nice staff and good food for the reasonable price. Ordered Cut mirchi bajji I love it. Every visit this is first one to order. After that mutton Biryani
(5)Palash H.
First time it was quit good but this time only starters were gud, main course did not have any taste. Consistency was missing.
(2)Anton D.
Authentic food great service No ambience but who cares I hope it makes it as it's never busy here. 90% of clientele I've seen are from India/ good sign
(5)Akshaya G.
A pathetic place for a dine in dinner.. However, nowadays they are even worse in take out orders.. What an attitude while taking the order for take-out even while specifying our spice level.. Well, I was mentioning that I need my dum briyani spicy and do not want them to add on pepper but just their gravy.. And that guy kept questioning me regarding how can I bluntly say so.. I was like Dude the previous time the owner accepted the fact that they do add pepper if ppl ask for extra spicy. What a f attitude.. They don't definitely behave like Indians! Badly organized restaurant I have ever come up with!! Okay well we reached home and I opened up my so called "dum briyani".. It's freaking not a dum briyani it's a plain colored rice with chilli powder!! when they were newly opened they Atleast tasted fine.. Oh yeah their good food was very well spread!! So now they have gotta change their food quality and start humiliating ppl... Anyway I ld not recommend anyone to step in there..

Good to have Update option in Yelp for review a restaurant you already been and reviewed. I use to like this place but now it's bad one. Service is disgusting. Guy in the counter beg for cash and shows attitude to customers. I can't talk about food because it's way more bad than service. Better to drive some more miles and search for another indian restaurant near by. May it's my last time for this place and never gonna recommend this place to any one. And also gonna warm my friends to avoid this place.
(1)Rick C.
The food is tremendous, the prices are good: The thing that destroys them is RAMPANT RACISM!! The service is horrible. I went after 5 p.m. one night with a woman from South India. We are a mixed couple. We were treated with contempt and disdain, seated at a table NOT where we'd requested on the side or back but in the centre where were we were scrutinised and openly treated with contempt. We nearly didn't get menus and when my friend ordered two particular items we'd gone there specifically to eat, we were told "we are out. Don't have." This is NOT India. It is NOT OKAY to treat people this way!!
(1)Eater M.
Food/Drink: I got the "business lunch" just so I could try a few different things (check in advance which curries are on the plate before ordering). I'm use to these awesome "thalis" that you could get in India at Indian restaurants (who'd of thunk it) and this disappointed. Christ's sake, it was a plastic cafeteria plate from the days of elementary school. The chicken kabob appetizer was cold and the rice and daal were OK. The chicken karaikudi curry was OK at best. The biryani was lackluster and pretty much tasted pretty average with a highlight on the rice. On hindsight, I would have gone the vegetarian option (paneer tikka masala, how could you go wrong?) Ambiance: Colorful is one way to say it, but that matches to the typical colors associated with India so it's all good in the hood. Everything still has a new restaurant smell to it, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with it in the future and they'll absolutely have high standards given the options in MN. Service: Below par. They definitely don't have everything together and they're not as smooth as the other options in town (and it's not because they're doing it better and different in some way). Tables are a plenty, needed to wave down for water. Our dishes didn't get cleared until way after our bill (and even then seemed like an after thought). As a small business, in this day and age, the option to pay cash for a discount made sense, but just came off wrong and we said "No, we'll charge it" when courteously reminded of the option. Overall: I'll give this place another try, but in no rush to do so. If you're looking for Indian food and you're within a mile (or two max), this is your option. If you're willing to drive another 5-10 minutes, head somewhere else. The flip side of this review, we saw a lot of desi's (yep, dropped that term because I can) coming here for lunch and felt like they were in the "know" on what dishes to order and did that instead of the "business lunch" we ordered. Don't be afraid to reach out to a friend (or make a new one) and invite them along for your first trip.
(2)Barath K.
Always flavorful and delicious!. Also, the cost for value is unrivaled Indian food.
(5)Mike B.
I thought the pricing was really reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food I ordered. The waiter incorrectly answered a question- "does this dish have bone-in goat, or boneless goat" and as such my experience was ever so slightly lowered. Although, even with the bone-in goat, i found it to still be really good. I can't eat curry due to a food allergy, unlike some Indian restaurants, the menu had plenty of non-curry items from which I could choose.
(3)We E.
My experiences here has been by far the best. I am a regular here and always loved the food. I have tried Biryani at different places locally but Bawarchi's stands out the best so far. I don't think anyone around the Twin cities area have these many Dosa options through the day. So, if you are South Indian Foodie, this is the best spot with lots of options to try. I highly recommend this place.
(5)Sanath P.
The two stars are for the food . The food is actually decent, but this is over shadowed by the worst customer service you could possibly expect, not to mention I had to wait for an hour and a half to get my food. Extremely rude waiters! I have been here about 3 times so as to not judge based on one experience but it only keeps getting worse ..not sure if the service at dinner time is any better when it is less crowded. They will never inform you that the wait time is long or if you ask the waiter for something he will conveniently avoid you table after that. I can go on n on about how bad the service is .. But I think you get the picture.
(2)Hemant T.
This is the worst place to have indian food. The food is cold and tasteless. Customer service is more like I don't care disservice. We visited the restaurant with colleagues and every one hated it. Ee are never coming back.
(1)M E.
Food quality and flavors are head and shoulders above the local competition. The setting is clean, well lit, and new, but uninspiring. The service is hit and miss, with the crew being sincere but not very polished. But the food is truly exceptional . Went in twice with a large group, so got to sample many items of their menu. A lot of successful dishes with clearly fresh ingredients and spices.
(5)S M.
One of the best (for Indians) in twin cities during the time of this review, generally the quality degrades, but they have maintained their quality since opening.
(5)Thomas M.
Nice size portions on the lunch specials, wish I received more rice with my Masala. Service is mediocre, should be more introduction, and don't just drop a pile of 6 plates for 8 people down. Do you serve beverages other than water? Food was good though, everyone fairly happy.
(3)Doug B.
I'm not Indian, but I have quite a bit of experience with Indian and Pakistani cusine. What I like about Bawarchi, is they don't have a buffet! Many of the Indian resturants have buffets, all with the same dishes. Went there for lunch, twice. The service is chaotic, and distant. The servers have no experience waiting on tables, they avoid contact with their patrons. Really wierd. Once you get served, they never come back. Communication / hospitality is not on their to do list. The lunch special for $10 is a lot of food - more than most could eat for lunch. I thought it was quite good, however it was all spicy - the lentil soup, the curry, and the rice with the chicken. I like hot food, but the meal lacked a contrast since all of it was hot. I would have given Bawarchi four stars - but the service was abysmal!
(3)Latha P.
Being a regular take out customer from Bawarchi Irving,TX and carrying their Biriyani out of state , I was excited about Bawarchi opening in MSP. Today was my first visit here. I came in with great expectations but the food flavor fell flat. Mutton Sukka varuval was coated with masala but the meat had no flavor ( part of the dish was hot and part cold). Karaikudi chicken curry was initially served too salty, but they replaced it but it wasn't anything to comment about. The Chicken Dum Biriyani was probably the leftover from the afternoon meals. Quite discolored with the artificial food coloring. Was served room temperature and didn't taste authentic .The side curry sauce was served ice cold and was replaced again with a warm portion. Yet it offered no flavor- the sauce recipe must be a secret ( yet I broke into it ) - Salt ,loads of chili powder, oil and water - sshhhhhh. Overall it's nothing to rave about .Persis and India cafe beat them hollow in service and flavor. Being Indian I will come back for a second try before I conclude it's not worth visiting .
(2)Arun H.
Excellent in taste and variety. I am from India and I grew up in South and lived in North, so I can assess accurately regional foods. Unusual to find South Indian foods in most Indian restaurants, especially of this quality. I suggest Masala Dosa and Uttapam. Good Biryanis- their specialty. Attractive presentation of dishes. Crowded on weekends, less so during week. Enjoy!
(5)Joy Z.
This place really is authentic! The service must have turned around, because both waiters that served us were happy, friendly, and helpful. They truly wanted us to have a great meal. I was hesitant to try the noodle dish (since I ALWAYS get tandoori chicken), but he told me to go for it. I was not let down! Delish. Thanks for having this ethinic spot in the 'burbs....great neighborhood gem.
(5)Craig S.
Great food & reasonable prices; great service. Good recommendations from our waiter.
(5)David K.
My wife and I went tonight for dinner. It was our first time there and we weren't sure what to order. The service was great and very helpful. The dishes we ordered were fantastic, and they kept bringing us additional items to try. The manager came over and introduced himself and made sure we were pleased with our dinner. It was a wonderful experience. We can't wait to try it again.
(5)Greg H.
We ate dinner here the other day and we were impressed. Everything was very well prepared. The fried items like the vada were perfectly crispy on the outside. The biryani was excellent and prepared in Hyderabadi style. The butter chicken was very good - though it could have used some more chicken pieces - but that is a pretty common complaint anywhere you go. We were offered a choice of garlic naan or rice with the butter chicken rather than having to order and pay for the naan seperately (as usually is the case) - that was appreciated. The dosas are huge, crispy and impossibly thin. The chutneys were very good. The chili chicken (while more Chinese than Indian) was excellent and they gave us a good amount. The spice level was good if you like somewhat spicy food - often these places make their food bland in an attempt to appeal to everyone. We were glad to see this was not the case here. We were not there for the buffet so I can't comment on what that is like. The prices ordering off the menu seemed pretty reasonable overall. The ambiance is not bad - better than average for a strip mall joint. The location is very easy to get to for people on the West side of the cities, but there is not much traffic on the road going past here - I hope they make it. There has been a lot of turnover in this location. This resturant serves some of the best Indian food in the Twin Cities and I recommend checking them out.
(5)Uday S.
The best place for Hyderabadi Biryani and other Indian recipies...the hospitality shown by the people is heartwarming. Thanks BAWARCHI for taking very good care of us when our group visited your place in second week of November
(5)Nick B.
When it comes to food, indian food boasts as many aromas as french boasts its sauces . But when it comes to the indian chefs, our brethren chefs are lazy enough to not bring one complex flavor to the menu. The same olds and same old menus . I won't blame them 'cause our indian patron attitude towards the food itself is not appreciative. its getRdone attitude. But I'm optimistically hopeful about this foodery. These guys bring my taste buds close to South Indian aromas and keep them ticking.I'm not saying I'm an aficionado of the South Indian cooking but when you taste a small part of you granny's flavors and feel a tiny mom' spice kick you should feel Anthony Bourdain in you want to write something about it . I'm hopeful that these guys will be consistent keep it going and don't go back to the lazy ways. If you'r there want to try, don't look for ambience here or calm quiet water trickle.in fact when it come to noise IMAX digital Dolby will be a cake walk compared to 8pm late dinner. Just come by 6pm ,test your spicyo meter, Mild - go for Dosa and eat with sugar(best combo), Hotter - try house speciality biryanies no filter Hottest - try house special entrees like Natukodi fry or curry with the white rice again no filter Try anything and everything Go smell the Spices : ) N of course Roses
