Discovered this place about 2 years ago and I love it! the dishes are fresh and tasty. I love the beef noodle salad and the chicken lo mein. The Pho is great during the winters. I really like the fact that the veggies are fresh - not frozen. You can tell they care about the quality of their food. They expanded since I fist started to go there so you don't have to wait for a table. I also take advantage of their take out too.

i LOVE this place!! the bf and i were trying to find some vietnamese food near my work and this place popped up on yelp! since this was the nearest with the highest rating, we checked it out. since then, i've been back another two times in the past week! (raised in a vietnamese home, both him and i) i like to rate this place first by trying out their bun bo hue and he gets their beef pho. if they can get these two right, they have everything else right. their bun bo hue was full of flavor, meat was tender, and the vegetables were fresh!! he also liked their pho where he didn't have to add as many spices. the broth was also full of flavor and there was A LOT of noodles and beef! a lot of other places are skimpy with their meats. and their egg rolls.... omg so good!!! it tastes just like my mom's!! they're humongous!!! they come out steaming hot and crispy!! i usually eat 1/2 of one egg roll and he eats the other one for me, but i just couldn't resist! i then went back and picked up some wonton noodle soup, and egg rolls for the boss. wonton noodle soup, not as heartening as the two soups we had but it was still good. the wontons were a bit smaller than what i'm used to but i love wontons regardless of their size! my boss loved the egg rolls too! this was her first time trying fish sauce and she loved it! and then i went back again today.. third time, 7th day. delicious!! bf had to get their pho again today and i wanted to try their chicken pho. just how i like it! it's lighter than the beef pho and their chicken slices are thick! i'm used to the shredded chicken in pho but this is sliced! as i've stated before, they don't skimp! my boss also asked me to bring back another order of egg rolls back for her :) service is great, dining area is small, but what matters here is the food! delicious!!!

They used to give quite generous BBQ meat in the sandwich and lots of pickled vegitables last year. Today, I was disappointed with the bum mi which had less meat and vegitables this time. And I asked to have more jalapeno and there wasn't. The sandwich was not cut in half either (maybe it's by request). The flavor was not there today. I felt I was just eating lots of bread. I think the price has gone up too. For a almost $7 sandwich and long wait, I expected to be a better one with enough BBQ meat or a meal with fries/drink.

I ordered the classic pho to go. I told the waitress I was in a rush and they did a great job of accommodating me and had my food out in about 5 minutes. The broth was a bit oily for my taste, and I felt like the amount of ingredients were pretty un proportional. The beef was also not very good. All in all the experience was just alright but who knows, eating in might prove to be a better experience.

Gion is a place I had been wanting to try for some time now... I just couldnt bring myself to try out a Vietnamese place with a Japanese name in a tiny strip mall. Id call it somewhat of a mental hurdle. After noticing there was a BOGO coupon in the Entertainment book, I decided to give it a go. Gion is definitely not in the best location, almost hidden in a tiny strip mall that you have to access by driving through a gas station parking lot... But on the other hand, being able to get affordable food of this nature is hard to find in the Crystal/New Hope area. The interior isnt much--a few tables, no menu signs, a case for beverages, and a counter. That's about it. However, I still appreciate that they have dine-in and to-go options. The food is pretty darn good. They dont have what I would consider an full Vietnamese menu (they have some Chinese and Thai dishes as well), but of course they have pho and bun bo hue... And the bahn mi sandwiches are crazy good. They are as big as you are going to find--I consider them a great value for $4.50. Overall, it's not a fancy place. But, they do serve quality food and have outstanding prices. Id definitely recommend it to anyone looking for this type of cuisine in the Northwestern metro area. Pros: Great prices, outstanding bahn mi, take-out/to-go service, friendly people Cons: Location is a bit hidden, menu not displayed on the wall (printed on paper), Id like to see more Viet dishes on the menu in place of things like pad Thai which you could get at Nong's down the street.

Gion recently expanded into a new location. Instead of facing Highway 169, they are now in a newly-remodeled and expanded spot next to Caribou facing 36th Street. It's easier to see when you pull in the parking lot. The new spaces alleviates the only complaint I had about this restaurant - the size. Feel free to disregard any older reviews that detracted stars because of the dining space. It is now open, airy and has 6 booths and about 10 tables. The food here is good. Very good. The spring rolls have fresh, crisp fillings with soft and delicate rice paper. They are delicious every time. The regular Pho has a rich broth and is flavored very well. If you are a little bit of an adventurous eater try the Bun Bo Hue. It's a little spicier but there is SO much in this soup: brisket, pork loaf, noodles, pork skin all served with the requisite plate of bean sprouts, limes, cilantro and basil. It's my new favorite dish and will be perfect for winter. I love the location of this restaurant - to get good authentic pho one usually needs to go to Uptown (Eat Street) or Brooklyn Park. Neither of which are very convenient to the 169 corridor. Sometimes service can be a bit slow during the lunch rush, but it's totally worth the minor wait.

i have eaten here a dozen times in the last year with friends and family. one neighbor says its as good as Quangs and closer to home. an elderly friend has intro'd it to her family and other senior friends. reasonably priced. the food is excellent. consistently well made and presented. the service is quick. the decor is average in a large open room, very clean, but i come for the food. personal favorite is the sweet basil with fried tofu. the tofu texture is perfect. i've ordered this often enough that i have duplicated the sauce at home. nice combo of fish sauce, pineapple, basil and jalapeno with onions, peppers & mushrooms. the menu is just the right length for variety but not too many items. have enjoyed the fried potato dish, fried noodles (street food), pho (regular is best, seafood and chix), curry (prefer thai), stir fried veggies. banh mi (pork sandwich) is on a nice crisp french roll with just enough pork. their wings are great. rolls are good. my friend loved the won ton. family run. they do a good take out business. they close at 8 and are closed sun & mon.

When they first open on the other end facing Hwy 169N, the food portion is regular. In less then 6 months, they raised their prices on the menu 3 times and the food portion became less and less! Totally don't make sense at all and a very bad idea! Ex: grilled pork chop rice, regular order comes with two regular size pork chops. they cut their portion by increasing the price and changed from 2 regular chops to one piece chop but cut into half to make it looked like 2 pieces. Ex: Beef Pho. They give u 4 small square slices of beef and lots of bean sprouts and and other pho vegetables. The service is bad also! Only one person taking orders and also serving dine-in customers. When you called in to place an order during lunch time, your call might never reach a live person to take your order even if you make 3 calls. Because the ONLY one person at the counter is busy serving maybe 2-3 table of dine-in customers. Several sometimes I walked in to make my order since they don't answer by phone, I was upset that they were not busy at all and only one table with two customers. For the above reasons, I don't go there anymore!

I'd go back pho sho. I'm not a pho-king expert, but this is my fav. Sorry, I can not write a review of a place where I ate pho without incorporating at least one pho-king reference. Came here today based on the urging and review of my Yelp buddy, Darcy W. Gion did not disappoint. Thanks for the recommendation, Darcy! Gion does not look like much from the outside or the inside. The location is in a nondescript strip mall just off of Highway 169 in New Hope. Often, the best places are in these strip malls that you would otherwise never thinking of going to. The inside is spartan, at best. However, they have added some artwork to the walls but the concrete floors remain. Kinda felt like a big storage locker converted into a restaurant. Walked in quite a bit past the lunch rush, and there was hardly anybody in the place. Waitress came over right away and was chop-chop, Johnny-on-the-spot getting me seated and taking my order. I was advised that pho was the way to go here, but they do have an extensive menu. Got the chicken pho with a side of the cream cheese wontons. The cream cheese wontons came out in a matter of minutes. They were just OK for me. The cream cheese was kind of clumpy and not melted the way that I like. Will pass on these and try the spring rolls the next time that I go instead. Pho came out before I had even finished the wontons. Based on the picture that Darcy posted, I was expecting the broth to be somewhat darker but this broth was pretty crystal clear. This pho was pretty plain Jane, but I mean that as nothing but a compliment. Oftentimes, simplicity and few ingredients make the best dishes. First, time I had pho at Ngon, I got it with oxtail which was fatty and gristly. Second time, I got it with beef at Pho 79 but it came with too many vegetables. Third time is the charm. Just right today. Giant and tasty bowl of chicken soup Vietnamese style. The only vegetables they put it in it, I think, were onions, chives and parsley. Perfect for my tastes. As mush as I liked the pho, this place is a minus one. If they get a liquor license, I could see bumping it up to a five.

This is tucked in a strip mall in New Hope. My hair dresser shared that they have fantastic fresh spring rolls... Of course, I thought to myself I will be the judge of that?! Gion Restaurant did not disappoint! The spring rolls are truly fresh and tasty! I truly love fresh spring rolls and this is not far from my house. I can also report... The Pho is great. The Pad Thai is ok, but it's not as flavorful as I like. You cannot go wrong with the cheese puffs... Just yummy! Gion Restaurant is extremely stark, not a cozy feel at all. Cement floors and not a picture on the wall. It is very clean though. Note to all... They DO NOT serve any booze? As you might have guessed its a lunch or take out spot for me.

We had the spring rolls, the traditional Pho, and the Bun Bo Hue. The spring rolls and the dipping sauce were so very delicious. Wanted more since I had to share with my wife. The Bun Bo Hue immediately hit me with the kind of heat that makes you cough from the back of your throat. Once I got over the initial shock it was delicious. The Pho was also very good. Flavorful and yummy and filled with delicious things. The vegetables provided to put in the soup were fresh and added a great deal to the soup. We'll be back.

Gion serves up some simple but delicious Seattle-style teriyaki. The service is a little slow even when the place is dead so I would definitely recommend calling ahead for takeout if you don't want to be waiting 10-15 minutes for food.

This is my first experience with Vietnamese food and it was amazing! The spring rolls and peanut sauce are a must. I am already planning my next trip there to obtain them! Very fresh veggies, sticky rice roll, and a cruch to eat bite. Shrimp and chicken full of flavor. On the recommendation of the waitress, I ordered the Classic Pho which was great! She brought bean sprouts, basil, lettuce, and jalepino and advised I add them to the soup if I wanted... and I did. Great suggestion to make it exactly what you want as the diner. I will return to this great little restuarant.

This place used to be the best and had terrific food. Got the Pho today for take out and it was very lacked to how they used to be. The broth was very oily (any great VN place skims the oil off). The raw what I thought was beef was still white when the hot broth was added so I think it was more pork than beef and there was little of it... Same with the noodles and condiments. I have been visiting this place a few times a year since they opened and since I have been traveling so much (mainly to Vietnam) I haven't been able to visit as much. So disappointed in this last visit. Their Banh Mi is still the best around this side of town though.

I've heard about Pho for years, and even have a friend from out west who taunts me with posts of photos of his yummy pho adventures. So, I finally broke down and looked it up and decided Gion was the place to go. So, I took my clan and we set out on our strip mall adventure. We went on a Friday night around 6:30. When we walked in the door, it wasn't quite what i was expecting. The dining area is TINY with very minimal decor, almost having more of a sparse coffee shop feel than a restaurant. Did I mention it was tiny? So, if memory serves me correctly, there are six tables. Yes, six. With the largest one being a typical ktichenette style farm house table that has a bench on one side instead of chairs that seats six. Don't let this scare you though, it is cozy...and the food is soooo worth it. Once we settled in, with baby and all, I did all of the ordering based off of the reviews. There were five of us full grown bodies... I hesitate to use the word 'adults' as other than myself, everyone else was under the age of 22. Anyway, we are a close bunch and don't mind sharing so I just went ahead and ordered the following: Spring Rolls: This comes as 2 large, fresh, beautiful rolls. The rice paper gives way nicely to the yummy goodness inside. Honestly, I really have no idea what was in those babies other than shrimp...but they is yummy! The peanut sauce wasn't anything special in my mind, but it wasn't bad either. Egg Rolls: Again, they come as a pair and were probably the most flaky, golden, glistening egg rolls I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I don't do gluten so I didn't actually get to sink my teeth into what the others said was probably the best egg rolls they have ever had. I did however try the sauce they came with and actually preferred that to the peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls. Cream Cheese Wontons: Who doesn't love these? If you raise your hand and tell me you don't - you're wrong! Seriously though, it sucks being gluten free, and I didn't try these either, but these babies came out glistening, golden puffs that yielded themselves to gooey cream cheese goodness. No one raved about these, but I'm not sure they are the kind of thing one raves about... only complains about when they suck. Shrimp Fried Rice: No skimping here. Nice balance of rice, veggies, shrimp, and egg. Probably some of the best fried rice I'd ever had and one order didn't seem to quite be enough. What more can I say? Pho: I ordered a bowl of both the beef and the chicken, not really even knowing what to expect other than broth, noodles, meat, onions, and garnish. What came out were two massive bowls of the most delightful soup ever. The portions of meat in the soup were very generous with both the beef and chicken being tender and the garnishes were quite ample as well. However, I soon as I began to try to eat out of one of the bowls I realized that Pho really isn't a terribly 'sharable' dish, in fact, it may even qualify as a quite intimate eating experience, as there seems to be no real graceful way to eat it other than to lean over and quickly slurp, suck, and bite whatever one can sling into their mouth with a spoon. As gross of a thought as it seemed, none of us let it stop us from fully enjoying the divine taste sensation that is their Pho. By the time every plate and bowl was bare, all five (six with baby who LOVED slurping rice noodles out of the pho) of us were full as full can be, and well satisfied with our adventure. I think our bill (without drinks - we all had water) was only like $37. Add a tip and it is still a great deal. Oh, and the service was excellent. Couldn't asked for a more satisfying experience.

I went here today for lunch expecting delicious pho from what the reviews said. Unfortunately, that's not what I got. First, I was waiting for someone to come out of the back as there was no one one the floor. When someone finally did come out, they weren't very cordial. I got my spring rolls, and they were big! I got excited at first until ibsawbthat they were filled with iceberg lettuce. Blech. When my pho came, the broth had a seasoning I'd never tasted before and it was not for the better. The veggies weren't fresh, but passable. But overall, I would have rather not had that experience. Need to find a different place.

I live across the street from this place. Closest place I get my pho fixed. The food here is good. Good pho. Small menu. The service is a hit or miss. They are nice and food comes out fast. Not too crazy about their seating setup.

Spring rolls with peanut sauce are delicious! They are huge and stuffed with fresh veggies and shrimp. I've heard the smoothies are great, too. Definitely worth a stop if you like rice paper rolls.

I was eager to try Gion, very excited to find a Vietnamese place the NW area. It has been on the back of my mind, from the great reviews here on Yelp, and one day I saw it on Hwy 169. So I had to try it on a day a friend and I was out and about in the NW suburbs. First impression walking in, was...wow it is SO SMALL! Like the other reviewers here have mentioned...I was a bit in shock how small it was. I ate in with my friend..and we felt really claustrophobic especially when people started to fill the restaurant and it became a full house. We both had the rice vermicelli noodle salad with grilled pork. The ingredients on the salad was very fresh and the portion was huge! The pork on the salad was marinated and a tad on the salty side but deliciously worked with the salad. I found the noodles to be a tad dry...overall it was not perfect, but it was a good salad. There is a sign on the door that says the restaurant is expanding, that is good! For now, I think I may opt for take-out until then... but I do look forward to your expansion. ********************************************* *Like Jonathan E says in his review, I was very curious about the name of the restaurant, Gion. I am Japanese, so when I saw Gion restaurant, my first thought was maybe it was a Japanese restaurant...because my frame of reference is of Gion (pronounced with hard G), a very famous place in Kyoto, Japan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gi… The waiter got a kick out of hearing about the Gion in Japan. Then I asked about the name and I learned that Gion (pronounced with soft G - French Vietnamese) is the owner's wife's maiden name. Funny about frame of reference can be!

Gion has been on my to do list for a while, so since today took me up near New Hope I decided to cross Gion of my to do list. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door, but the place is currently rather small, so that is not surprising. They have a sign posted that they are expanding soon. I opted for a bun, the rice vermicelli noodle salad with mock duck. It didn't take long for it to arrive and it was quite large. The mock duck and the onions had been caramelized and charred in a wok and were packed with flavor. They contrasted nicely with the crisp and crunch of the shredded carrots/daikon and bean sprouts. As I dug down further I was able to find a bunch of cilantro and mint and some lettuce, as well as the rice noodles. The fish sauce dressing accented the dish nicely. The serving was large enough that I could not finish it in one sitting. There is absolutely no doubt that I will be back. I would have to say this was the best version of bun that I have had in the cities. Service was prompt and friendly. I look forward to seeing how much more space they will wind up with.

This is by far the best place to get chicken Pho. It's all tender white meat, and every other ingredient is delicious too. :) I've tried a few of their appetizers too. The spring rolls are fresh, the steamed pot stickers are delicious, and the cream cheese puffs are crunchy and have the perfect amount of filling. The atmosphere is quiet and my water is always refilled as needed, but without an overly chatty server. I fully enjoy my meals here. :)

4/5 For overall food quality and service. It was a little more under lit than I would have liked, but the decor was what I expected. I found their spring rolls were good but eggrolls were a bit wanty, served atrociously hot and greasy. The spicy chicken was second to none. Best I have had in quite sometime. Good value for a quick lunch.

Ok, I've been to Gion about 5 times now... had bad experience my first time ordering the way too hot green curry... I just ordered the wrong thing. Since then I've had the Sesame Chicken, which was delicious once they brought more sauce. It came with less than I like. Very good meal. I've had the Regular Pho and Chicken Pho with a side of Spring Rolls. Yum! So delicious and the Spring Rolls are so succulent. Seems to be more diners when I've gone and always people stopping to pick up their take out orders. The walls and tables still could use a little decor, but I have changed my view of the food. Delicious.

This is temporary because they didn't let me dine in. I arrived 7:40pm and the server lady said "are you taking away?" I said "I would like to dine in". Then she said "sorry, it is already 7:40". Well, it's the first time to see an independent restaurant who is not willing to serve because of 20 min. They should turn off the Sign or "the last order 30 min before close" etc.. anyway, it is not fair to rate anything w/o eating. So I will come back to eat and evaluate. But I temporarily have to give because of this rejection.

I haven't eatten inside, so i can't give them 4 stars nor can i give them 1 star. So they get 3 stars! this is strictly to critique their Banh Mi sandwiches, springroll and eggrolls. Which are die hard vietnamese classics. Something you can rarely screw up on if you don't put some effort into them. AND these classics, you can clearly tell, they did not put effort into living up to it's name. The bahn mi sandwich (the breading tasted old and stale) as well as the veggies inside (that's my favorite part) the veggies also tasted old and they are not pickled. NOT A PLEASANT experience to eat. I felt so bad because my boss is a HUGE fan of a banh mi's and would hate to have him experience this. I ordered grilled beef and the beef was not properly trimmed before cooked. It had the chewy fatty pieces on it. and bitting into it on a sandwich is not pleasant. The springrolls. The springroll had pre-shredded lettuce (like the kid you'd get from cubs to use for taco salads) and pre-shredded carrots. ANd this place is priced on the high end for vietnamese food, especially when it tastes mediocre. Paid $15 with tax for my springrolls and banh mi.

The Thai Basil was basically what I expected, but I got adventurous and also ordered the Crepe, and according to my tastes, it was weird. I thought it would be like a French crepe, seeing as how Vietnamese cuisine is so influenced by its period as a French colony, but no. Don't order it unless you know what you're doing. Just had dinner here with the neighbor. It's a small but nice dining room with only about 8 tables. The ambiance was nice without going over the top like a lot of places do. Ok, now the food. We shared spring rolls and egg rolls. The spring rolls were light and fresh with plenty of shrimp. Egg rolls were crispy and delicious. They were served with two sauces, one like light oyster sauce and one peanut sauce. I don't which sauce goes with which but they were both delicious. She had pho. An enormous bowl of glory that she said was amazing. I had the hot and spicy chicken which rocked. He asked me.how hot I wanted it and I said pretty hot. I should have ordered it hotter but I never eating there before I didn't want to have it unbarably hot. It was divine -- a huge bowl of chicken and onions in a spicy brown sauce with a slight lemongrass flavor. It had a big scoop of rice served on the side to soak up the sauce. I'm a big guy and can eat a lot, but I still took about half of it home the.portions were so big. For my.drink I ordered a coke and it came in the glass bottle -- the coke with real sugar! I have driven by this place nearly every day since they opened, and I've always been intrigued. Having the flu for two days, and craving some some soothing Pho prompted me to stop in. First off, the place smelled amazing when I walked in the door! I ordered chicken Pho to go and decided to check out the spring rolls because of the great reviews, even though I wasn't sure my flu-riddled body was ready for much more then Pho. The Pho was like liquid, healing gold! I loved the fresh, aromatic basil, and the little container of some type of sauces to mix in and season the broth. One order is definitely two meals. A bargain! Seriously tasty. The spring rolls were the most plump and fresh spring rolls I've had. They were full of cilantro, which I do not like, but that is typical for spring rolls, so I was prepared, and happily picked it out. The fact that Gion uses nice big whole stalks of cilantro worked in my favor, as it made it much easier to pull right out in one fell swoop. If you're a cilantro fan, my guess is that you would love this quality as well. I can't wait to go back when I'm better to try more things on the menu. I get the feeling I won't be disappointed!

I've been going to Gion for more than a year. Great Banh Mi sandwiches, pho and eggrolls and more. They recently did a small remodel! Still a tiny place but much more pleasant ambiance. They added maybe two more tables, but much more of an eat-in worthy place. And they must be reading the reviews, because my Pho Classic came with 4X more basil than ever before included in the sides.

Small restaurant off hwy 169. We had their noodle soup and it was good, and reasonably priced. They don't add MSG which is a plus, since a lot of asian restaurants do. I would go back again with friends.

This place seems like a one of those hidden gems. All of the menu items I've had here have been exceptional. And it's in NEW HOPE?? Spring Rolls- superior to most every one I've had in Minneapolis/St. Paul. they're thick, full of plump shrimp, well spiced and totally worth getting 2 orders. Bahn Mi- FULL of meat, the right amount of mayo, fresh bread... huge. Pho, Wanton soups- Great, flavorful and don't skip on filling that bread. The service is always more than amazingly helpful and friendly and prices are soooo reasonable. Do visit them. They're a great local business worth each yelp star.

I return to Gion for good, traditional Pho and their superb pork fried rice. Seriously, their fried rice is the freshest, lightest and most satisfying I have had anywhere in the Twin Cities with plenty of pork and wonderful touches like young snow pea pods. A complete meal in itself. And reasonably priced. I'd judge that their other menu items are equally well prepared and tasty. It looks like they do mostly a carry out business. And I have ordered out and eaten in, and both were good experiences. But, I do wish they'd dress up the interior of the restaurant and give it some charm, warmth and general ambiance. Since this is a small operation, they no doubt spend their hard earned money on maintaining high quality ingredients and ensuring adequate service from the kitchen. And it pays off in terms of quick turn around and delicious food. But this is not a special evening out kind of place. Although it could be with some attention to the decor. Give it a try. I think you'll be pleased.

Gion is located in a tiny strip mall in New Hope. You can dine in or take out. The dining room is tiny and was also completely empty when we were there so I bet most of their customers choose to take out. I ordered the classic pho to take out and was given a bounty of sides to jazz up the broth. One thing they skimped on was the basil but I can never get enough basil so maybe that's just me. The broth had a great flavor so I didn't need to doctor it up that much, I like that they give you raw white onion on the side as well as green onion, I have never had that in my pho before. Gion has some solid pho and is the closest Vietnamese place to my house so I will definitely be there a lot. They get knocked down one star because they forgot to put my spring roll order in. Getting home and not getting to eat a spring roll is one of the most disappointing things.

Whenever I go to Gion I get the Wonton soup or the beef with broccoli. The food there never disappoints and the service is top notch. If you want to go to a restaurant that's delicious and always consistent, this is the place.In my opinion, one of the most underrated restaurants in the Twin Cities

BEST PHO in Plymouth!! Highly comparable to Phuong Trang of Brooklyn Park and Pho Cadao of St. Paul. If you are in the neighborhood, you don't need to drive all the way out to Brooklyn Park or St. Paul, you can come here for the Pho. The Bun Bo Hue here is so-so, had better but it does the job. The Fried Rice is good. The Fried shrimp appetizer is good. Eggrolls are so-so. Rice platters are probably not to their full potential. The menu could use some more work. Items offered are kind of Americanized and that is where restaurants lose their fine ends as they start to serve more items that looks like stuff you can find at Leann Chin or PF Wangs. Overall, good location, good place, nice friendly staff.

We were pleasantly surprised. Wait staff was very friendly and personable and the food was great! Nice new space, clean and fresh. We had the Pho, springrolls and cream cheese puffs and everything was great!

Anyone giving 5 out of 5 stars for this place and their pho probably hasn't ventured out of Plymouth...EVER for pho, let alone Vietnamese food. Any real pho lover would know tasteless, watered down pho from a mouth watering, flavorful, tastebud explosion, savory beef broth bowl of real pho. I think it's tailored more for folks who aren't too familiar with the asian taste palate so they have nothing to compare it to. Do yourself a favor and try it anywhere other than this place if it's your first time. Otherwise, you'll find yourself settling for mediocre and selling yourself short from a wonderfully exotic experience. For this being the only Vietnamese restaurant in the area I guess it's ok. Their banh mi bread is dry and hard. The pho lacks flavor, almost tastes like an instant microwave meal. The deep fried wings are over cooked and extremely dried out. Anyone desperately in need of Pho, go here. If you're willing to drive a few extra miles take the drive to Brooklyn Center or even to Minneapolis for some delicious Vietnamese at the same cost.

I tried the beef pho.....very stingy on the beef and noodles. Not much at all for what you're paying for. We also ordered the sweet and sour chicken. Nothing at all earth shattering. Overall, very pricey for both quantity and quality of the food. I'd honestly rather have mall asian food than this place! Also noticed the empty dining room, despite being 6:30pm. That may be a sign that they won't be open for long.

Ordered the Pad Thai with Shrimp. I asked for medium spice and it came out perfect. Great food. The service was excellent. Very Friendly staff. Our server explained that "Gion" was her mothers name. And that they've been open about 14 months. I love these privately owned little enterprises.

I had lunch there and the fresh spring rolls were delicious (along with the peanut dipping sauce), cream cheese wontons were crunchy and perfect amount of cream cheese, and wonton soup was so flavorful. Can't wait to go again and try the Pho!

Only downside is no fountain drinks, BUT the food was delicious. And very large portions enough for 2 meals and fairly priced. The spring rolls are large and fresh, the cheese wontons freshly made and fried with a full center no 3/4 empty shell. I usually go for sweet n sour chicken but got the Lo mein it was wonderful and steamy hot. My mom had beef n broccoli and it was also delicious. The dining area is small and they have carry out options which I intend on taking advantage of. Oh but I've remembered another downside note on the door says they close at 8:30 which sucks cos that's when I'm ready for dinner! All in all an excellent place to eat with wonderful service.

It's great to have good Vietnamese near my work. I had to do takeout because of a late night at work. They had the usual Vietnamese choices. And I went with my usual picks - spring rolls and hot and spicy chicken. Both of them were right up there with my favorite places. Another bonus was the serving was huge. I was able to enjoy a few meals. Gion will definitely be my go to spot when I have other late nights at work.

I love this place, everything we have had was AWESOME!! But the Bánh Mì is my favorite. I am so happy to have a real Vietnamese restaurant close to my home. I even drive from my work (close to Eden Prairie) to get lunch for me and my co-workers, who now love this place as much as I do. Prices and portions are fabulous...Go now and trying Gion, you will not be disappointed.

I may indeed give them a second try at getting more stats. But my kids and I arrived here at 8:31 and They had the door locked and closing. The hours were painted on the door til 9p.m. and the info I found said they were open til 9 p.m. but they do indeed close at 8:30 per a written note on the door. Now, it made me upset Because we had just hurried to this place to get supper and to not be given service made their stats fall.

I checked out the menu before I went here, and it's all over the map, which is always a red flag for me. Some Vietnamese, some Thai with a little Chinese thrown in for good measure. This phenomenon is most often found in the suburbs, not just here in the outskirts of Minneapolis but in alot of cities I've been to, where they must think business will be better if they mix it up. Anyway, in spite of the tour of Asia that is the menu here at Gion, the food is very good. The Rabbi (aka Doug) had the rice noodle salad, and it was as authentic a dish as we've enjoyed at the most bona fide inner city Vietnamese restaurant. I was tempted by the Thai red curry, and this was good as well. Not as brothy a curry as I like, but the flavors were there. The restaurant has very little in the way of decoration and only six tables, but there was another couple in there when we arrived and they were clearly regulars, so I hope this place thrives.

Decided to try something new and found this place in the neighborhood. The restaurant is small and doesn't have much in the way for atmosphere, but it makes up for it with the food. Generous portions at a great price and everything was delicious. The service was a little slow refilling our water, but that's not surprising for a small place. I had Bun (Pho, just with different noodles) and it was pretty good, not the best in town, but this is the closest decent Vietnamese restaurant in the area, so it's much more convenient. I also tried the curry my wife ordered and I was also very good. I could see this place be a go-to for Asian take-out!
