Finally, delicious and reasonably priced Greek food! The atmosphere was wonderful. Food was fresh and flavors were inviting. I was surprised by the very reasonable prices compared to other local Greek restaurants of its caliber. We had lunch on the outdoor patio. The patio is cozy and well landscaped for a romantic dinner for two or fun time out with friends. As for me, I was there for just a casual business day lunch and loved it. The indoor seating looks great too with a solarium kind of feel. The biggest set back I see is location. It's a little tricky to get to the right road. I hope others give this restaurant a try. It's so hard to find restaurants with good food at reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere.

Christo's is a great place. I have eaten there about 15-20 times since they opened, and, while I have not tried everything on the menu, pretty much every dish I have tried has been delicious. The spanikopita and hummus are the best I've had in restaurants, as is the melinzanosalata (sp?), but the tavas has to be my favorite entree. Every dish, from the tender, juicy, flavorful lamb stew that is the tavas, to the simple but phenomenal side dish of cooked carrots with dill, is well-prepared, flavorful, and pleasing. The one dish I have tried but do not care for is the falafel, which I find to be too dry. That is too bad, yes, because I love good falafel, but with so many other options (including delicious wood-fired pizzas!), I always leave Christo's satisfied.

Christos is a neighborhood gem. I have eaten there many times and the food is always tasty and consistent. Great place for lunch as well as dinner. Friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.

We live close by so we eat here several times a month because it's one of the most consistent in the area. The menu is probably too big but much of it is very good or even excellent. I had a buddy in town from the NYC metro who absolutely could not get enough of their Greek lemon-rice soup. Gus, the owner, is great and he wants the servers to be full time so the crew seems to care about both Gus and the restaurant, rather than just a transitory job. This is the kind of place where they practically yell "Norm!!!" when you walk in after you've visited a few times. It's been years since I've been to Christos Uptown location (which I think is the original?) but this outpost is very comfortable and we've never had a bad meal. And since Gus manages this one, everything always seems to run smoothly.

We go there an average of once a week. Never, never have we had even average food. The halibut is the freshest in the twin cities and the lamb dishes are tasty and reasonable. There is little wonder why this is the top rated Greek restaurant in the Twin Cities --- no disappointments for us ever!

Stopped by on my way home Friday for happy hour. Crab cakes where good. And there beer selection small for the offerings on tap. Settled for Stella. Also took advantage to look at their coffee table book on Greece. Beautiful. Will go back.

Christos is the real deal if you're looking for authentic, high quality greek food. I had the Diafara sampler plate (Diafora ~ Pastitsio, Mousaka and Spanakopita), others at the table had Tavas, Shish kebab, gyros and the lamb shank - for appetizer we had octopodi hot and cold as well as a sampler platter (Taverna Platter ~ Octapodi, Feta, Hummus and Melintzanosalata) - and deserts - the table had one of each - I can honestly say that every single thing was fabulous. I cannot wait to go back. Aside from the great food, the atmosphere was nice, the service was exceptional, prices and portions also exceptional - I had some nice leftovers. I can't wait to go back!

I had the chicken kabob and it was very possibly the smallest portion of food I've ever been served in a restaurant. It looked to be about 4-5 ounces of chicken (which, yes, is a serving, and would be fine for a lunch portion or if the rest of the meal were more substantial), a single small mushroom, a single 1/4 wedge of a small tomato, a single 1/8" thick slice of green pepper, a single 1/8" slice of red pepper, and about half of an 1/8" slice of onion. I asked for my rice to be substituted for carrots, and it looked to be about one whole carrot, sliced. All in all, I'd put in a rough estimate that it was about 400 calories worth of food. This would be a little light for a lunch portion, let alone dinner. I asked if I'd been accidentally served the "lighter option" portion that they offer, and I was assured that it was the full entree. I can't imagine how unsubstantial the light portion must actually be. It was especially confusing, because based on the pictures here, and what I saw on other peoples' plates, the serving sizes of their other dishes appear to be far more typical. I will admit that I'm a bigger-than-average guy, with a bigger-than-average appetite, but I understand what a proper serving size is and rarely fail to be satisfied with what is served to me in a restaurant. But, never in my life have I felt compelled to go home after eating somewhere and make myself a second dinner... yet that is exactly what I did after eating at Christo's. Don't get me wrong; it tasted fine. Not the best I've had, but certainly not bad. It's just that I spent nearly $16 on dinner, only to have to go home and make myself a salad. This was far from a good value for the money. The server was friendly, although the service was a bit slow. I'd be willing to give them another try, but I definitely won't be ordering the kabob again.

"You are free to go." How can a place so tasty and nearby disappoint after all these years? My family has been dining on Greek from Gus for several decades, first in Mpls and now in Minnetonka. We love the salad, the dressing, hummus, babaganush, spanikopedia, oregano chicken and especially the summertime Cristos lemonada. We make do with the boring broccoli and potato sides and sometimes poor service because we like the food and we appreciate that Gus openeded this west side Christos. So when we ordered the lamb chops cooked medium and they were served very-well-done and tough we weren't sure what to do. I had to get up and find the server to tell him that they were overcooked but that we were willing to try them with a serrated knife. Once we realized this wasn't an option I asked him to at least re-make one chop because my mom was willing to make a sacrifice for Gus. After first being told that my chop was being remade, I was then told that the cook refused because he said they were all made the same. So I told him that my mom was simply being polite and that all three were terribly overcooked. After two more trips the server came back and told us we were free to go. We didn't want to be dismissed because we hadn't had dinner but we left. And as we passed the owner he looked away. So sad that he made no attempt to save our business.

We went in before noon on a Saturday for lunch. There were no "please wait to be seated" signs and the couple in front of us walked right in and sat down, we followed suit, only to be accosted by the Greek manager moments later who says, in a very aggravated tone "don't sit there! Wait to be seated here!" We immediately apologized, scrambled to our feet and went back to the front of the restaurant. The guy then goes and makes a big show of rearranging the wine lists on the table we'd just vacated, seemingly disgusted our paltry fingers had touched them. After being further ignored a few minutes, we left. What a jerk! I was shocked at his rudeness. Never again. It wasn't like the place was crowded, at that time, there were all of 10 other people in there.

My souvlaki was just passable: meat tough and not particularly tasty. Our server was quite good. Lots of better restaurants in the area.

  • Anna B.

I think the food deserves 4-5 stars. The service however is 0-1 stars, take that back the servers are also 4 stars but the owner?? of the restaurant needs to fix his seating strategy. We have been here twice now over the last few weeks, made reservations and came with a newborn and toddler. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes for no good reason, even though we were on time and lots of open tables with many servers around. Once seated it took forever for them to take our order. I have to say that once the server realized we were sitting at one of his tables, he was very friendly and brought the food promptly. I think the management at this place needs to be whipped into shape!!!!

Went here a while ago and ordered one of the specials. The chicken was pink on the inside. Believe it or not I got some attitude about it. It's pretty surprising how often this happens at restaurants. When my health is at stake, I can't give any place more than one star. It cancels everything else out.

do not go here I got the spanakopita, it tasted like moldy cheese. I told my server who said maybe I just did not really like feta, or had not tried this type before. She assured me it was made fresh. When she returned to my table with my replacement order a uninspired and soggy moussaka she said the chef had assured her it was made only three days before, are you kidding me you think three day old food is fresh. enough said.

We are always greeted by a friendly Greek man who quickly finds us a seat even on a busy day. The last two times our waitress has been a family member. We request a table next to the fire place on cool summer nights or cold winter days. The room is large, big windows and very well maintained. Parking is in its own lot just a few steps from the door. The food has always been great. The soups are excellent. The sliced lamb (gyro) meat is the best in the city. For $10 we will sometimes just stop in for a to go order. Desserts are also excellent. You will have a quiet, delicious meal when you come here. Reservations suggested as it gets crowded on weeknights as well as weekends depending on the weather and what is happening in the area. Enjoy.

I planned on Mediterranean this weekend, and I got it damn it! And my apologies, no pictures of chow. I went out with my grandparents and despite having 9 inches and 100 pounds on my grandma, I'm deathly afraid of her, especially if she's within reach of a spoon (ever take a spoon to the knuckles? Yeah, shit hurts). Enough about me, lets talk Greek! Reservations weren't really needed, considering it wasn't overly busy at 5.30 when we got there. Did fill up a bit by 6'ish and later, but, nothing too bad. Still get some to cover your hot cakes. We started with the Saganaki and Hot Plate apps. Saganaki being the flaming cheese, and hot plate consisting of Loukaniko, Koupepia and Gyros with Tzatziki. Saganaki was really good. Solid citrus backing to the saltiness of the cheese, and of course the brandy added a little sweetness with some punch to the flavor. Hot plate - Loukaniko (pork sausage). Was not bad at all. Very good flavor and solid bite for a sausage. Koupepia (stuffed grape leaves), lacked flavor. Texture was great, but the veggies over powered any hint of the minced meat. Combine this with the loukaniko though and you're in business! Gyro meat was solid. Good flavor, solid fall apart texture (not overly chewy). And the tzatziki wasn't bad at all. I was hoping for a bit more mint to go with the cucumber flavor, but, that's a personal preference. Onto the entrees! I went with the Souvlaki (thanks to a recommendation from the incredible Dita D!) which is pork loin skewered up. My grandpa went with a lamb shank, and grandma opted for Kota Sto Phyllo (chicken boob in sautéed spinach and leek, feta and kasseri cheeses. Baked in a phyllo pastry wrap. Souvlaki was good. But, a tad over done and the meat was a bit dry. Otherwise, the seasoning and flavor was great. Sides were totally forgettable though, which was pretty tragic to me. The baked taters that I went with were totally tasteless though, which, really sucked. Lamb shank was awesome. It's the joy of going out with my grandparents that I get to eat the majority of their meals too, which hell, is just a hidden perk to getting together with them! Very tender, decent amount of meat, and great flavor. The onion-dill sauce was amazing over this. The Kota Sto Phyllo was damn good. A bit too much dough for my liking, and it kind of took away from the saltiness of the cheese. But, the chicken, spinach and buttery dough flavor definitely had a little something going on. Again though, the sides, carrots with dill seasoning - totally tasteless. Couldn't taste the dill, hell, if I were blind folded I wouldn't have even guessed it was carrots I was eating because there was no flavor. Service was great all around. Connor was a great waiter for us. I want to rate it higher, but, with the tastelessness of some dishes, I simply can't. Mix in the souvlaki being overdone and a bit on the dry side, further hampers the cause to get over a 3. I don't know what the hell it means, but, gotta say it... Opa!!!!! I'll keep going to Greek places just to see cheese lit on fire and hear that!

The hummus was homemade and delicious but the pita bread was microwaved too much. I loved the salad dressing but the tomatoes were not ripe. The Chilean sea bass was nice and flakey but they forgot the white wine sauce with capers all because we told them we were hungry. If I went back, I'd try the calamari as well as eat more hummus.

Since I had some errands to run on this side of town I thought it had been long enough since I had eaten at Christo's. The frontage road reconstruction in the area a couple of years ago makes getting to and from Christo's much improved. The restaurant is at the end of a frontage road along Hwy 7 and sits next to the site of a former McD's. The real star in the menu at Christo's is the lunch specials. There aren't too many places with real plates and silverware that you can get good soup or salad and a main for under $8. I opted for the beef stew with fresh veggies and the mushroom soup. The lunch specials only run M-F, but they are pretty good about posting the lunch special on the website daily. The mushroom soup was a beef broth base soup. They always label the type of base used in their soups which is handy for those with dietary restrictions. It was a pureed soup with a pronounced mushroom flavor, a tad bit salty, but pretty good. The soup was served with a warm, quartered pita. The stew consisted of a ton of beef in an unthickened broth with potatoes, carrots, celery and tomatoes. It had a strong beefy flavor, but again was a tad oversalted. The veggies in the soup were delicious and not too soft. The serving size was large and I was not able to finish the entire bowl. Service was good and my server refilled my soft drink as needed and delivered more pita bread without asking. The Minneapolis location also has similar lunch specials. I would strongly recommend giving Christo's a try for lunch. It was refreshing to see someone cooking real food with real ingredients that tastes good. However if you are sodium restricted you might want to let your server know so the kitchen can be made aware.

Wonderful. Outdoor patio was the perfect spot to enjoy our delicious, homemade Greek dinner. We'll be back for sure. Only 4 stars because my tabouli (sorry if it's spelled incorrectly) was overly salty and the grape leaves stuffed with rice and ground lamb/beef were on the dry side. Notice I mentioned we were sitting out on the patio? Well, I did have a living bug crawling in my salad, but I choose to believe it came from outside, not the kitchen. Should I even have mentioned it?

I'm writing about the Minnetonka location on Hwy 7. I have visited this restaurant on many occasions, but have stopped even considering them as of about a month and a half ago. When we first visited, there was a far more convivial bartender than now. And, the [owner I think] political rants aren't warranted or appreciated. His opinions aren't listed on the menu as a necessary side-dish. Food offerings don't change, and the vibe needs to, but doesn't either. There are many places one can go to spend money without being appreciated. I just don't need this one! Food is tasty. Service depends upon where you sit and your luck with the server assigned you. Otherwise a blase experience IMHO.

While this is certainly not the best Greek food I've ever had, it was pretty good. I tried the roasted red pepper and feta soup to start out my meal and was very pleased! It was flavored very well and was just right for a chilly fall day! However, I was disappointed when the spanakopita I ordered was not nearly as good as the soup. This is my usual dish at any Greek restaurant I go to, and while it wasn't the worst I've had, it was a far cry from the best. It was just OK... a bit under-seasoned and a little bit burnt. Next time I'll try something else! My server was absolutely amazing! I don't remember her name, but she was very on top of stuff and did a great job explaining the menu! I could not have possibly asked for better service. Because of the awesome soup (which gives me hope that there are other equally amazing things on the menu) and the excellent service, I will definitely be back!

I love this place for its authentic greek cuizine. The Melintzanosalata, unlike that offered by the Eden Prairie competitor, is the real deal. The overall menu offerings are similar enough to the dishes I get in Greece that I become home-sick for an Aegean island. I would only suggest, in keeping with the idea of authenticity, that the menu be expanded to include a Greek frappe and real gyros. It is a shame that all Minnesota gyros are actually shawarma rather than pork souvlakis.

This is the place my wife asks to go on her birthday -- and I think I will ask for it on mine also. I love the Mpls Christos but there is nothing like some sort of combination dinner combined with a fine Greek pizza covered with goat cheese, olives, and artichokes. As usual, good service and a wonderful evening that begins on the outdoor patio and then moves to the large indoor area when it start to sprinkle. My top rating.

I usually get take out when I eat here, and they've always had my order ready and carefully packed on time. The few times I've dined in the services had been attentive. In the summer they occasionally have cantaloupe soup. This stuff is fan-freaking-tastic.

Lunched there yesterday. I ordered the Aegean Dip -- sliced lamb in pita pockets au jus. The jus had a layer of fat on top of it that was not a problem when it was hot but as it cooled the fat began to solidify and it lost its appeal. I had to remind the waiter twice to refill my coffee, please. It was reasonably priced. I'd be willing to go again. Getting there -- pay attention to the turns off Hwy 7 westbound. The first one is about 1/2 block *before* Christos on the right and takes you down a frontage road to get to the restaurant; the second turn is just a little bit *past* the restaurant and with all the snow, I think it might be easy to miss. Just sayin'.

we all highly enjoy this place. the soups are great as are salads (for veggies) and meats for the meat eaters among us. Lamb is good as is chicken. good for a family with varied likes and dislikes and healthy too. Better than santorini by far and good rival for it's greek to me.

  • Mr. P.

This place has amazing food! The calamari is excellent, as is the (Im going to mess up the spelling) spanakopia. The pricing isnt cheap, but doesnt cost an arm and a leg either. Well worth it. The only negatives I would give it is sometimes if you order by phone they forget your order, so when you show up to pick up your food you have to wait for them to make it. They are very nice about it though. Also, Im not too fond of actually eating there anywhere but the bar, but thats me. Last, and this is more highway 7's fault than anything, if you dont know the turn to get to the sideroad its located on, its very easy to pass it up when looking for it. You can see it from the highway, but by the time you see it, the turn to get to it has long past. All in all, a GREAT place to eat.

I fell in love with Greece and Greek food while studying abroad during college. Upon returning, I found Christos to be the most authentic Greek restaurant in the Twin Cities, capturing the warmth of the culture and the spirit of the cuisine. I've frequented the Minneapolis and St. Paul locations for 20 years, and am now a regular at the Minnetonka location. I've probably had most items on the menu over the years, but currently stick to several veggie favorites. Starting with the starters, the dips are all wonderful, served with pita and heavy on the garlic, as they should be. They offer hummus ($5.95); melintzanosalata ($5.95) which is roasted eggplant pureed with olive oil, lemon and salt; skordalia ($5.65) sort of cold version of garlic mashed potatoes; and tzatziki ($5.95) the traditional yogurt cucumber dip. You can try them all in a dip sampler for $7.95. Christos Greek salad (small $5.45; large $8.45) is a crisp and fresh assortment of greens, cucumber, tomato, red onion, capers and olives - you can hold the feta, if you like. For those who eat cheese, the tomato soup with feta is fantastic. Dip some pita and it's like a sophisticated grill cheese/tomato soup combo. If you eat seafood, Christos has the best calamari in town. Offered as an appetizer ($7.25) or an entrée ($12.35), they serve up sizable pieces of a calamari filet (not a ring or strip) lightly battered and fried. The octopodi appetizer of chilled marinated octopus pieces ($6.95) is crazy good. Falafel, the delicious croquettes of ground herbed garbanzo beans, are served either in a pita pocket with tabouli and tahini ($5.45) or as an entree ($10.75). Christos falafel is crisp on the outside and tender on the inside with a spicy kick. Their tabouli is crisp with tons of fresh parsley and garlic. Vegetarian entrees include dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves, $11.95), spanakopita (feta and spinach baked in phyllo pastry, $11.35), and vegetarian mousaka (onions, peppers, mushrooms, and tomatoes baked between layers of eggplant and potato topped with béchamel, $11.35). You can choose two as a vegetarian sampler for $11.95. Entrees come with a cup of soup or house salad and choice of side: fried potatoes, oven roasted potatoes, rice pilaf, carrots with dill and broccoli. All entrees are available at lunch for reduced prices. The Minnetonka location has a wood-fired oven -- a holdover from when the location used to be Sidney's. They offer a number of pizzas or you can build your own, which we've done numerous times - Greek olives, capers, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, roasted red pepper and mushroom - no cheese. The ingredients are flavorful and the pizza crust is perfect. Owner, Gus Parpas, is everything a restaurateur should be - gracious, kind and welcoming and becomes a friend to frequent customers. Christos has three Twin Cities locations: 2632 Nicollet Avenue South in Minneapolis, 15600 Highway 7 in Minnetonka and in the Union Depot at 214 Fourth Street East in St. Paul. I have been craving Greek food since we moved to MN from Astoria, NY. This place was solid! I prefer Christos (Minnetonka) over Santorini's hands down. The quality and price at Christos blows them out of the water. Christos is much more authentic as well. If you are looking for a great meal definitely check them out!
