Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

different, strange, wild wonderful lunchtime adventure

Finally got to try the Vellee Deli today - two earlier attempts were thwarted by the truck's late start (when 94 was closed because of the heat) and then some food timing issues on a random lunchday when we couldn't wait. At least the owner was nice enough to tell us and we promised to come back. So now today we went back! I'm starting to notice that Fridays in the summer might be the best time to hit up any food trucks - half of downtown is out or leaving early, so the lines are much more manageable. We went at 11:30 and there were just 2 people in front of us. I ordered the egg rolls and the Korean BBQ burrito and my friend ordered the vellee quesadilla (the only vegetarion option, I think?). The egg rolls came first and so were a nice little snack while waiting for the other food. The order is 5 small mini-rolls, and I would classify them as more of a spring roll. Good standard filling, nothing "out of this world" different or good, but you can't go wrong with a yummy spring roll. I had just a bite of the 'dilla and it had a lot of nice flavor to it. Whatever, get to the meat!! The burrito is fricking huge, I would compare it to the size of a Chipotle burrito. Stuffed with rice, Korean BBQ short ribs, kim chi and lettuce. The flavor is great with some nice spicy kicks, there was a ton of beef, and I agree with another poster, I could use more kim chi because it's so good! Next time, I'd really like to try the pork bahn mi and/or the tacos. The burrito would be great to split, but it was one big lunch on its own! Price was $11 for my burrito and the spring rolls. Compared to other trucks, I thought this was really affordable. I haven't encountered anything at other trucks that wasn't worth the price tag, but this was a lot of food for $11.

If you like burritos with a twist and hot sauce, then this is the place for you. Their hot sauce was by far the best and I had their curry tofu burrito, which I thought was very good. Definitely a place I would go back to eat again.

The Vellee truck was a super fun lunch truck experience! My friend and I waited a while to order (it was gorgeous out, so other than being REALLY hungry, I didn't mind waiting), but once we did, our food came out pretty fast. I had the fish tacos, which were good, but didn't have as much of a "fusion flare" as some of the other dishes probably did. The fish was crispy and the cabbage slaw was perfectly tangy. There was a little bit of spicy sauce too, which was pretty yummy. My friend ordered the Korean BBQ burrito, which would have definitely made the rest of my work day a little sleepy, but it still looked (and apparently tasted) good. I can't wait to go back and try some more!

it was ok not bad not great would come back but the music can be kinda annoying I had the banh mi and it was what i expected but kinda pricy..
(3)Heidi G.
Came across this truck when I was already hungry and decided to try my first Kim Chi (inside the Korean BBQ burrito). Amazing flavors - the meat was tender and delicious, and the Kim Chi was lovely too. The only thing I would have done different would have been to use a little less lettuce, but overall it was really tasty. I'd order another with no hesitations.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Vellee Deli! We stopped in for lunch the other day. We had the BBQ burrito and Pork Tacos. Both were so good! I loved the flavors in each and they meat was done perfectly. One note on the burrito, it was a little heavy on the rice. Not that it needed more of anything else added. It just would have been better if it was a little lighter on the rice so it was easier to handle and let the other ingredients shine a bit more. They seem to have their service down pretty quickly because there were quite a few people and our wait was pretty short once we ordered. I wish they had iced tea, but we just ran into the convenience store in North Star to grab some.
(4)Sean M.
They have the best food in my opinion among food trucks in Minneapolis. Their Currito is fantastic. The only reason i gave a 4 star is because they are inconsistent with their level of kicks. 3 kicks today may not be the same amount of hot the next day.
(4)Lori G.
The mix of Korean and Mexian is just wired to me... I really LOVE korean BBQ, but not korean BBQ burrito....I so wish we could have Korean BBQ here at minneapolis, the traditional ones that you can grill by yourself.
(3)Erin B.
YUM! Chipotle sized burrito with a Korean twist!!! I LOVE Kimchi so this was a treat for me! The beef was also flavorful and the rice was cooked and seasoned well. Im new to the food truck seen and this was no disappointment! Next will be the Bahn Mi!

We were strolling randomly around Minneapolis and found this for truck. It's stayed with great outgoing people that helped us select the perfect lunch. We enjoyed the Korean BBQ burrito and the Dragon quesadilla. Both were a fantastic way to enhance our visit to Minnesota.

Food: -Mostly uninspiring menu except for The Mojo that sounded somewhat original -Chicken currito (spicy thai curry, potatoes, romaine lettuce, rice and "creamy zing sauce"), recommended by the Vellee truck dude but ended up being a big boring wrap of disappointment; the ingredients were very unevenly put-together, and everything mostly tasted second-rate-fast-food-chain quality and cheap -As for the Korean BBQ burrito/BBQ pork taco stuff, it may seem super novel super cool in Minnesota-land-of-zero-asians, but that shit is overplayed on the menu where I've lived like that "Call me maybe" song; and I make some goddamn epic Korean BBQ fusion stuff myself Service: -Fairly nice order-taking guy; however, during our brief exchange, I emphasized "half the rice" and "wrap the burrito tightly" TWICE, yet just a few bites in, everything started falling a apart and a shitload of rice fell out like it was fucking rice-apocalypse 2 generous stars based on my experience thus far.
(2)Ryan F.
The only truck I got to try at the MN Food Truck Fair in Uptown. I have been on a burrito kick lately, and this was the other place I really wanted to try compared to WSK. Same as WSK, we got the BBQ shortrib burrito and the Chicken burrito. We also got some of the egg rolls. I was more than happy the burrito was bigger than WSK. I have, what some would say, an unhealthy appetite, so bigger for me is definitely better! These burritos are almost Chipolte sized, and WSK are about 65% the size. However, I think WSK has better flavor to their burritos. Vellee was in no way bland, I just didn't think the flavors popped out as much. Also, I forgot to ask, and was not offered, any of the kicks. The chicken curry burrito was pretty spicy though. The egg rolls were good....but to me, nothing really stood out about them. Service was speedy and friendly. I would not wait 40 minutes again to get the burrito, but that was because the Food Truck Fair was a hot mess, so no stars off of Vellee for that.
(4)Katy L.
So here's the deal. Vellee Deli is awesome because their burritos are great and the guys are always crazy friendly. Not to mention that they (like House of Hunger) always have music playing, which makes it so much easier to have sidewalk dance parties. AND they always park right outside my office building, so I never have to walk far to grab a great lunch. Selecting your volume of "kicks" (spice level) makes the experience like a Choose Your Own Burrito Adventure, except instead of ending up flying a cargo plane away from kidnappers, I'm flying a taste plane away from blandness. The Kim Chi on the Korean BBQ burrito adds a great flavor and tang to the savory short rib in a way that I wouldn't have anticipated. The only real negative to Vellee is that they don't have a bricks and mortar location like World Street Kitchen so I can get my fix in the winter.
(4)Karl H.
Duck Confit Banh-Mi! On my top 10 list of best sandwiches I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. I get it with 2 kicks (Vellee spice scale) which leaves me with a slight forehead sweat for a few minutes afterward. Most would probably rather have 1 kick or none however. Going to the new Vellee in the skyway has become a once a week ritual for me that I look forward to more than anywhere else. The bowls here are also delicious, the rolls are ok for me and the fish tacos are pretty good but nothing really beats the banh-mi IMO.
(5)Cody B.
Incredible. Had their chicken curry burrito with 2 kicks (but spicier). Interesting/delicious Asian/Mexican fusion. I highly recommend. Their staff is fun, polite, and upbeat as well. I'll be back tomorrow haha.

The wait is over for the restaurant location of the popular food truck Vellee Deli! Yesterday was their soft opening to the public and it could not have been any more impressive. Joyce and Will have created the most amazing restaurant that matches their style and stays true to their origins. The space is innovative and convenient for the lunch crowd. The line moves fast and food is ready for pick up at the window in record time. They have lots of space to sit, either with a group or at a counter solo. This will be the best stop for lunch in the skyways! Vellee Deli has the same menu as the food truck, with a handful more additions. The quality of food is just as good as it has always been. Maybe even better! Just know that I consider a trip to Vellee without an order of the vellee rolls (egg rolls) is a waste. No matter how full I already am, I WILL finish those rolls. Congrats to Joyce, Will, and their long time employees! They treat their customers like family and deserve the success!

I've never experienced the food truck so I came into the store as a total first timer. VD (haha) is still new so there's still quite a line for lunch. I arrived at around 11:40 and had about a 20 minute wait in line. Thank you, time waster instagram. One of their registers was out of order so take that anomaly into account. The line was moving quickly given that. Good options to order. Decided to go with the Korean BBQ burrito. Short rib, kimchi, rice, romaine & salsa roja. $10. Got it with 1 kick (0-3 kicks of extra spice). Ordered. Came up quick. Friendly people on both sides. Let's eat. Wasn't very spicy to start. That spice grew into a nice lingering mild heat. Probably wouldn't want to go more than a 2 for my tastes. Didn't really get much kimchi flavor going on. My biggest complaint was it seemed I could never get a perfect bite. It was either mostly meat or rice. Needs a quick mix before that burrito is wrapped up. But you know what, this was still a damn tasty burrito that I liked more as I ate more. I would choose this over some of the other popular burrito options. Will be back to try more on the menu.

I had the Spicy Thai Tofu Curry yesterday in the Minneapolis Skyway. It was not only one of the best Curry meals I've had in memory, but a great value and I'll be going back for more. I had it kicked up one notch and it had just the right amount of spice to be a flavorful heat without impacting the flavor. This is well worth a try.
(5)Nicoelle I.
I work very close to the new Vellee Deli brick and mortar location and decided to try it out. I have never visited the food truck so I didn't know what to expect. I decided to try the fish tacos and oh my heavens these were SOOO good. I got a kick level 1 for some added spice- 1 was enough and almost too spicy (I like things relatively spicy too). Tons of flavor and crunch with the cabbage. I will definitely be back.
(5)Tina T.
Not sure what the fuss is about. When we arrived there was a huge line out the door. The guy in front of us was way too eager to get his meal so I had to ask for some recommendations. He said that he had multiple favorites and nothing has ever disappointed him and that the line speaks for itself. I looked around and thought oh crap, I am in trouble, no other asians in this line. Lol. Went ahead and ordered the duck confit banh mi which was so oily that my cuticles got a massage. We also got the chicken currito (bland and didn't taste like curry) and egg rolls (bland and tasted like panda express). Also, the heat levels don't have any kick (they can go up to a 4 which is not listed on their sign). I got the kick level 4 on the side and it was literally a small container of blended spices which reminded me of chili powder at ramen shops. I had higher hopes for this place but what can you do...it is asian fusion.

The TOFU BURRITO (with rice and a sweet red curry flavor) will BLOW YOUR MIND. Seriously! If you see their food truck, you need to stop whatever you're doing and start the following: Reach for your wallet. Find something worth $7. Smile at the nicest group of people you'll ever find in a food truck. Tell them Gregg sent you for a tofu burrito. Wait 5 minutes. Then, hit that burrito. Hit it real hard. Unapologetic. When you're done, I want to you to think about what just happened.

I crossed an item off my bucketlist! It was to eat at a food truck, more specifically at Vellee Deli, and even more specific, the Korean BBQ Burrito after Ms. Annie D recommended it. I had the Korean BBQ burrito and my mom had the pork tacos. To be honest, my mom's tacos were much more enjoyable than my burrito. The pork was flavorful and the topping were delish! The Korean BBQ burrito was a bit of a disappointment :( The burrito was huge! It had Korean marinated beef, kimchi (YES!), lettuce, and rice. I found the whole thing flavorless. The beef had very little to no flavor to it, and I think working on that marinade would make a big difference. Also I think it would taste SO MUCH better if they put more of a variety of things in the burrito. Even bean sprouts would be good. OR my favorite Korean condiment, SSAMJANG! Vellee Deli, you know what's up. I hope you read this. All in all, Vellee Deli has other delicious treats I'd go back to try. Staff was super friendly, and despite the long line, it moves very quickly. I hope you read this. SSAMJANG JUSAYO!
(4)Liz W.
I adore this place! The best fish tacos (two kicks!) I have ever had. Basically everything else on the menu looks scrumptious, but I have yet to make it beyond those fish tacos...maybe at the 2014 food truck fair this weekend. :) I'll also second what others have said, as it probably has a lot to do with why I love lining up here: genuinely friendly service and good music!
(5)Alexander V.
There's always a long line at their store front location, so I thought I'd give it a try to see what the fuss is about. My first time there was decent, I had the Korean BBQ burrito. The short ribs were tender and delicious. The kim chi was just ok, and the rice was a bit undercooked. My second visit I had the chicken curry currito bowl with 2 kicks. Wow. Amazing. My third visit I tried getting the Korean BBQ bowl instead of the burrito. Much better! The rice was well cooked, and it was more balanced without the tortilla. My most recent visit I had the BBQ banh mi. It was good, but I'm comparing it to placed in St. Paul that are more versed in that fare, and in that respect, its on par but doesn't rise above that competition. Still worth a try if you haven't. I recommend two kicks, plus a bit of Sriracha on it. I'm impressed, and I get now why there's always a line here. Highly recommend, just prepare for a 10 minute wait or longer if you hit peak hours.
(5)Jan D.
The Korean BBQ in a bowl is to die for, and even if the line seems long at lunchtime, it moves quickly.
(5)Abe T.
Vellee Deli is now open in the skyway (where the old Taco Bell was). Food is just as great as it was at the truck. The menu is almost the same. There is now seating space available and a soda fountain. I would go there everyday of the week but the lines are too long, 20 to 25 minutes wait on an average for you get the food. Suggestion: You guys should have an online ordering system so that I can order, pay and just pick the food up and avoid the line. If not atleast have both the cash registers working (currently only one cash register works)
(5)Marsha L.
This was my first time going. The line went really quick and I only had to wait a minute for my food and I went at 11:45am - So that was good. However, I ordered the BBQ Bahn Mi (I LOVE Bahn Mi sandwiches) and the meat was tough - rubbery cubes and not shredded. I was super disappointed. Also, there was 3 times as much bread as there was filling as well. I might go back, but not for the bahn mi.
(2)Toby S.
Waited to long, screwed up my order, and was unimpressed with the food. Skyway places need to be quick, good, and be a good value. My experience was none of these. Ordered a dragon quesadilla and the lady said it would be about 3 minute wait. I waited around 15 minutes. Then the guy at the window says sorry about the wait. 3 minutes later (dramatic pause) my food is in the window set up for dine in instead of carryout. Finally get my food and start walking to the office. I can forgive a hopefully one time bad service if the food is good. It was only slightly better than a chicken quesadilla from Taco bell... What's sad is that their menu looks so good and now I won't be going back to try anything else.
(1)Dan S.
This place is good! A mix of a Korean and Mexican taco truck turned deli. Good pork spring rolls too. I had the Korean Bulgogi bowl; it was very tasty incl the beef in it which was plentiful.
(4)Justin S.
Love this place. Every time that these guys roll into Minneapolis it's a must stop for me over lunch. Everything on the menu is fresh, delicious...and awesome. My favorite is the Korean BBQ Burrito...you can also get it as a bowl, but the tortilla does something for me to bring it to the next level. You can add the level of spiciness based on "kicks" starting at 1 and going to 3. 2 kicks seems to do it for nice heat, but not overpowering the flavor of the meat and fixings. The standard fixings are rice, lettuce, kimchi, and some red salsa that kicks butt. Other tasty options are the eggrolls and fish tacos. The fish tacos are a solid choice as well for someone looking for a lighter, flakier choice. Overall, great choice. Protip: the line can get kind of long, but it's worth it.
(5)Nas I.
AMAZING food. Korean bbq burrito is probably one of my favorite items for lunch. One star taken away because of the prices. Still amazing.
(4)Julianne Z.
I am all about food trucks and when I heard there was a Korean Fusion one just 3 blocks from work, I was on it! They had a great menu with burritos, bahn mi sandwiches and quesadillas! I had the Korean Short rib bowl with kimchi and 2 kicks (kicks are the thai chilli pepper spices you can add). I LOVE spicy food and 2 kicks was really great and enjoyable! I highly recommend this place for lunch and the service is so quick and they are so nice!
(4)Guyue J.
I tried Korean BBQ Burrito with 2 kicks and Chicken Currito with 2 kicks, they are both amazing, but watch out, the second one is really hot!
(5)Bronson M.
I have to say whole-heartedly that I effin' love Vellee Deli and all of their food offerings. Over the past year and a half I have always been greeted with a friendly smile and had consistently good food from these guys. My (as well as my friend Diana G) Vellee addiction has gotten so out of hand that I am now on a first name basis with them...but it's a good thing to be a regular right?! Their Banh Mi and Korean BBQ burrito would have to be my favorites, followed by the chicken currito as a close second. The tacos are also phenomenal and a light eat if you're not looking to tank up on a burrito or heavy Banh Mi sandwich. I know that to most of my MN friends even ketchup can be spicy but you should at least order your food with one "kick" to spice things up. Seriously...you need to stop reading this review , go on Twitter to find out where they're at next and check out this awesome food truck!
(5)Rachel B.
If I were hip enough to have a favorite food truck, this would be it. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorite is the tofu bowl (also comes in burrito form) and the chicken currito (also comes in either bowl or burrito). The veggie quesadillas are delicious too, and too much for me to finish. I personally am a "one kick" person, which comes out to sort of between "medium' and "hot" at a good Thai restaurant.
(5)Diana W.
As a long-time Vellee Deli food truck fan, and even longer Minneapolis skyway lunch diner, I'm clearly a target customer for the new Vellee Deli restaurant. So how well have they made the transition to brick-and-mortar in my opinion? Flawlessly. In fact its even better than that. The line moves quicker, the food comes out faster, and the quality has perhaps stepped up a notch from their food truck days. What's more there are ample seating options, making this just as suitable to dine-in as to take out. If you're willing to count the cozy window area stools (and why would you not), I have yet to see all the seats taken on my several visits to the restaurant. That's uncommon for such a busy lunch spot! The theme of the food here is Asian & Mexican fusion. That's how you get things like curried chicken in a burrito, or Korean barbecued pork in a taco. But sometimes the fusion is more pan-Asian, like the "Mojo," a delicious Hmong-style sausage with papaya on a banh-mi-style bun. Longtime truck favorites like their Korean bbq banh-mi, red curry chicken "currito," fish tacos, the quesadilla-like "dragon melt," and the ever popular "vellee roll" eggrolls remain on the menu. A couple of additional items - their new duck confit banh-mi, and a new pineapple salsa - expand the menu ever so slightly. I'm hoping we see more new offerings of this sort in the future, because both are hits. In any case, as the long lines of eager customers have always attested, Vellee Deli was one of the top food trucks in downtown Minneapolis and now it's one of the best skyway lunch destinations.
(5)Troy J.
Two words: Tofu Burrito. This 5-star review is based on five trips to Vellee Deli in the past month for their Tofu burrito. Exclusively. It's the best lunch burrito in downtown Minneapolis. It's a magic combination of Thai curry sauce, tofu, peppers, mushrooms, lettuce and rice. It also include's Vellee's 'zing sauce.' I'm admittedly embarrassed to only know the flavor of one menu item at Vellee. When I walk to to Vellee for lunch, I ALWAYS tell myself that I'm going to try other menu items such as their Bahn Mi sandwich or fish tacos -- but when I get up to the counter, all I can say is "TOFU BURRITO!" and "TWO KICKS" (for added zing sauce.) I hope to work on my Tofu Burrito affliction... and explore other menu options at Vellee...but I may have to go through many more burritos before I achieve success. I have a high tolerance. If I succeed, I'll update my review. In the meantime.... have you tried their Tofu Burrito?
(5)C H.
Love this truck! The korean bbq burrito was put into a container for me (i prefer bowl to burrito), and it was great. Kimchi was fresh, meat was delish, Too bad the burritos/containers aren't bigger, I could've eaten two! Love the food here and the service is awesome! Though the lines are long, they go quick!
(4)Annie D.
Today, I woke up like a kid on Christmas morning because I had made plans for a food truck lunch with two of my favorite friends. Meaning I was finally going to try this Korean burrito from Vellee Deli. But first, a tangential story. About once a year, I go to San Francisco for work. While I'm there, I always eat at this place called HRD, which serves Korean burritos. Sometimes I eat there twice in four days. Don't judge. And then I go through major withdrawal when I get home, since Korean burritos were hard to find in this town pre-Vellee Deli. I'm cursing myself that it took me so too long to try this truck that would've more than satisfied all these withdrawal symptoms. In fact, I think I like Vellee's version even better than HRD. It comes with perfectly tender BBQ short rib, rice, (extra) kimchi, salsa and crisp lettuce. I ordered it with two out of three kicks, which was plenty hot for me (and I love spicy food). I could barely finish half my huge burrito and I was eating it like an animal. So the bonus is that you'll certainly be able to turn this into two meals for $8. This thing tasted so good it makes me want to use the F-word. The ONLY thing that could've made this thing even better for me is doing a quick mix of all the ingredients before wrapping it up (then you get everything in every bite!). Additionally, the whole situation would be improved if they would just park in front of my house all day. The rest of the menu includes quesadillas, tacos and banh mi with inspired ingredients. Things like the Currito made with Thai curry and the BBQ pork taco with house pickle. If you like heat, make sure to ask for a "kick" (or two or three). They told me the dishes are rather mild without the kicks. And the service? Just about the friendliest and fastest in the land.

When you get food this good you will always remember your first food truck experience. That is why I will always remember Vellee Deli. Now if your first experience with a food truck is one of those hot dog or cotton candy trailers that move from local carnival to local carnival, please erase that memory from your mind, forever. After having surgery last year that laid me up for most of the summer I was finally able to get out of the house and drive again. One of my primary goals was to hit up some food trucks before the end of summer, especially after watching my twitter feed scroll with tweets of tasty food from mobile eateries. Getting and parking downtown is not an easy task at lunch time, especially when you are on crutches/in a cast. I therefore opted to hook up with VD when they were at an evening event at Augsburg. Parking was a breeze, no lines to speak of and there was seating nearby. The service was friendly and fast. Had my food in minutes - a Korean burrito/2 kicks. Headed to the table, sat down, unwrapped and bit in - holy crapbuckets was that thing tasty. Meaty, subtly sweet, spicy, sour from the kimchi, the soy sauce saltiness just wafted through. Flash forward to today, I nabbed a parking spot across from VD on my way to volunteer and grabbed a Korean burrito w 2 kicks and headed on my way to a shady spot to snarf it down. This burrito transported me back to last year, my first visit to VD. It was the exact same experience, with the same friendly and fast service. After my first time I was also able to try their Vellee Rolls which were incredibly good, and their banh mi was the thing I tried the last day of 2011 and I regretted waiting so long to give it a try. Their fish tacos and vietnamese pork tacos also deserve respect. All I can say is Thank You Vellee Deli!
(5)Nichole B.
Oh Vellee Deli, how I love you. Is it strange to be in love with a Food Truck? Maybe. Am I ashamed? Definitely not. This Food Truck is amazing. If I could, I would probably eat here every single day. Sad, I know. Their food is just that good. The Korean BBQ Burrito is to die for! Make sure you get it with at least one "kick" and have them toss on some extra kim chi. (Come on live a little!) The Chicken Currito is also out of this world awesome-sauce. Their food is amazing, fast and fresh. The people who run the truck are great and the prices cannot be beat. Seriously, what's not to love?
(5)Jason W.
I ventured outside of my normal choice which is the bahn mi to get the Korean BBQ Burrito and a side of egg rolls. 3 stars for the burrito. The Burrito tasted well enough but I was a little dissappointed as I didn't get any sweetness that you usually get with kalbi and all heat. The 3 kicks is what they say it is, very spicy and right on the verge for me. Overall not a bad meal, just not sure I would get this again. I thought a little sweet sauce would've made this come togther. I would have to agree with another poster about it being a bit on the bland side. The Pork egg rolls were simply delicious. Crispy and delicate. The service is just outstanding and I would give them 5 stars for that. Pleasant, friendly and quick to get you your food. Makes me feel good supporting these guys.

Stopped by for lunch on one of my rare visits to food trucks (work at the U :( ) and tried their Mojo while BF had the Bahn Mi. Both were really good. The baguette is crunchy outside and soft inside. The papaya salad on the mojo was delicious and went great with the sausage. I asked it with two kicks and it was spicy without being too overwhelming. Great sandwich! I also tried BF's bahn mi and I really liked the BBQed pork. It was kind of sweet in a very chines bbq sort of way. Is something I wish I knew how to prepare. We also tried the veggie rolls, which where really good. It wasn't just a mash of flavors all drenched in oil and overpowered by the taste of fried oil as your average spring roll: you could distinguish the different ingredients. One of the few veggie rolls I'd be happy to order! Hurry up: you still have a couple of weeks to catch them!

Korean BBQ burrito, two kicks, extra kimchi. This is my twice-a-week lunch, and it's always delicious. Staff are super friendly to boot. It's worth walking four blocks from my office.

Thanks to places like Vellee, Senor Wong, and to a lesser extent Chino, I am quickly becoming a fan of Latin/Asian fusion. The Vellee Deli truck is quite noticeable, as it is painted all black and generally can be heard from a distance due to the external speakers usually playing a hodge-podge of modern tunes. The service always comes with a smile and a 'thank you' for your patronage. Niceties aside, the food is Vellee's real appeal. It's not what I would call gourmet, but it's damn good street food. Their banh mi dwarfs those found at most other Vietnamese restaurants, but still contains the usual ingredient suspects (save for the use of bbq pork vs. pate). Burritos are substantial and filling (and further proof that everything should contain kimchi), and the beer battered fish tacos are worth every penny. And finally, they offer three varying spice levels for each dish, though even the hottest will likely disappoint those looking for something beyond 'MN spicy.'

I've only been to Vellee Deli once, so I'm going to have to update this later, but I was quite impressed with the Korean BBQ burrito ($8) that I got last week. Marinated, slow-cooked short ribs with seasoned rice, kimchee and lettuce in a burrito makes for a great combination. I realized that in my excitement to order (this was the first time that I've worked in a place where food trucks regularly gather) that I forgot to read the sign next to the window that told you how to customize their food's spice/heat level. WIthout instruction from the customer, they serve the food with little to no heat. I appreciate this consideration, but I did feel that my burrito could use a little more zing. I'll get it right next time... The banh mi ($7) that my friend got with level 2 heat was superb! How they manage to get a baguette to be both crusty and soft at the same time is a miracle of food science (not really) but either way, they nailed it. Will certainly be back for more soon.

First time seeing this truck for me so I gave it a try. I had the watermelon lime something or other drink and the chicken burrito with "two kicks". The drink was delicious, but the glass it was served in was silly small. Come on, for $2, spare me a few more ounces. The burrito was fab - totally top notch. I work nearby so brought it back to my desk to eat and the whole world disappeared and it was just me and this burrito. The curry was yummy, the portion was great...it was a rock star burrito in so many ways. Memories. I wish I didn't have to say "with two kicks" when ordering for spiciness. That seemed a bit dorky, but that's a minor thing. I loved this truck, and will most definitely try it again.

Maybe it's because I experienced the greatness that is HRD in San Francisco last month but I wasn't impressed. I tried them today as they were on the East Bank. I was excited to see a new food truck venture to this part of town and a quick check of Yelp made me hopeful. I had the Korean BBQ burrito and an order of egg rolls. For $8 I found the burrito to be a bit on the plain side. I had three kicks and while it was nice and spicy, all the sauce was loaded at each end. I also apparently missed out on the kimchi. Maybe it was in there but I didn't notice it. The egg rolls were alright. Not great (Pho 79 egg rolls are the best I've had in town) but not bad. They were small, which was great for sharing, but I felt they ended up being too much fried wrap, not enough filling.

This is my favorite truck. The banh mi is outstanding. I tried the burrito several times with Korean bbq and really enjoyed it, my only issue is with the rice. I'm not sure if it's instant or not but there is nothing like a perfectly cooked pot of jasmime rice. I think it would send this burrito into the stratosphere of culinary delights. Thanks guys for providing us with so many fine meals on the go.

Vellee Deli, thank you for filling my belly with your delicious food! I'm usually not downtown on weekdays, so when I am I like to check out new lunch places. Vellee Deli and Hola Arepa recently hit the food truck scene; I had already tried Hola Arepa so Velle Deli it is! Vellee Deli is about the Asian/Latin fusion. Normally I hate fusion food, but it seems so right for food trucks. Jared and I ordered the BBQ banh mi and the Korean BBQ burrito. Currently they only offer bottled water and soda, but I would love to see some horchata or cold boricha (Korean barley tea) being offered. The banh mi ($6) was filled with grilled pork with a Vietnamese BBQ marinade, finely shredded do chua (pickled carrot and white radish), a nice long slice of cucumber and pate. The bread was nice and crunchy, but without slicing my mouth up. Loved the pork, it was tender and the slightly sweet marinade gave it a rich taste that complimented the tart vegetables. The burrito ($7) was a beef short rib with kimchi. The short rib itself is quite tender and super delicious. If I could get the recipe, I would have the best July 4th grillout ever. The kimchi isn't too spicy and works well in the burrito. People should eat more kimchi. It's good for your digestion. The burrito was my favorite of the two even though I generally love banh mi. Portions are HUGE; you can ostensibly eat the burrito in one sitting, but don't blame me if you fall into a sweet, sweet food coma later in the afternoon. A few suggestions: for the banh mi, the pate didn't stand out as much as the other fillings. Maybe a slather more would help out. The burrito had a tad too much rice; 3/4 as much would have been better. And add more kimchi, please! Also, please put out napkins! The only condiment is Siracha, which I am ok with, but FYI. And offer boricha! Overall, I'm velly happy I went to Vellee Deli (did you see what I did there?). People reported a long wait for food, but we received ours no too long after ordering. It's a great addition to the downtown Minneapolis lunch scene, so check it out!

Vellee Deli is hands down my favorite food truck. Take this from a true foodie / every day food truck goer. IT IS DELICIOUS. The service is great, the food is amazing, and the fish tacos are my favorite fish tacos thus far. I am sad whenever they are not in Downtown Minneapolis for lunch!

I had heard about this truck because of their famous Korean bbq burrito and have been dying to try it. Guess what?! We stumbled onto this food truck during the zombie pub crawl. Despite having an insane line and a deathly hungry Asian chick demanding two burritos out of them, they were extremely friendly and got the food out to me in a reasonable time. I ordered the Chicken curry burrito and the korean bbq burrito. Both were amazing. I think I had a food-gasm while roaming Cedar Ave half dead. They were well wrapped and the flavors in both were really good. I did prefer the chicken curry one because of my Southeast Asian roots and I wish I would have learned about the kicks beforehand, but I would happily eat it without the kicks.

Oh dear lord I am glad I work downtown. As if not having to drive to work and being able to commute didn't make it wonderful enough Veelee Deli is thrown in the mix. I've been on a mission since starting my job to try every food truck downtown. I'm only three in but I can tell you Veelee deli is going to go on a list of the awesome trucks. I have heard this currito thing is good but they were sold out by the time I got there a 12:45. So I got the Korean BBQ burrito instead. I can't imagine the currito is better but everyone says it is. Sure. If you say so. Anyways this thing was filled with kimchi (mmmmmmmm....drool), rice, crunchy lettuce and korean BBQ. The rice was actually delish. I think they season it with something. The beef was perfectly salted and seasoned and tender. THe kimchi rocked. I only wish there was more....perhaps next time I ask for double. I topped mine with thier sizzle sauce since I like a lot of heat. WoW! This was the type of sauce that opens the nasal pasages and makes you sweat a bit. Loved it but since I don't like being a sweaty mess at work I will go with the next level down. Oh and the sizzle sauce isn't even as hot as it gets so if you like having your pants on fire go for the fire sauce. As a plus everyone on the truck was super nice and knew the names of many of their customers. I will defintely be back and I'm sure they will know my name soon. I can't wait to try this currito (curry chicken burrito BTW). Love you Veelee Deli!

Through out all my years of eating asian food, I never had it in a burrito until now. This food truck is amazing and the have great service. I've had the Korean BBQ Burrito almost 10 times now. The Bahn Mi is one of a kind as well. If you love curry, try the Chicken Currito. It's a great chicken curry burrito that will surely satisfy your taste buds.

I had wanting to try this cart for weeks and voila, they appeared outside my office. I only had a short window of time to get something to eat before a very stimulating (yawn) conference call on retirement planning taxation. Yes it was very (yawn) stimulating. I went with the Krakken and the spring rolls. Let's just say it is a lot of good food for your money. The Krakken was 2 fish tacos and can easily be shared. Don't pass on the spring rolls. Crispy and flavorful. I will definitely be going back. Oh and they take credit cards.

Food Truck Festival? enough said. Let's head to Canterbury Park. We tried a variety of trucks and VD was one of them. The lines weren't terrible so we ordered and got our food in 5 minutes. We got the BBQ Banh Mi Sandwich. It was scrumptious. Great, perfectly juicy vietnamese barbeque pork, picked veggies, jalapenos. Extremely well done. We also got a watermelon/lime aqua fresca and that too was dericious. If I needed somewhere to go downtown, I'd definitely stop by Vellee Deli.

A good friend of mine and I took a stroll down Marquette to go to one of his favorite food trucks, Vellee Deli, an Asian inspired food truck with a Mexican flair that hangs around Minneapolis dishing out fun creations. It is one of my buddies favorite food trucks. I ordered the Banh Mi BBQ sandwich and the service was fantastic. The guys in the truck were super nice, plus they take credit cards. Plus one. My buddy ordered The Mojo, a sausage hoagie with tons of stuff on top. My sandwich came out after a few minutes and I ordered the extra double hot kick, not sure if that got in the order, because it wasn't spicy at all. The bread was my favorite thing about the sandwich, it seemed freshly baked and a sizable amount. Fluffy, yet crisp at the same time. I took a bite and the first thing I thought was, I think it is a little cool. It could have been because we got there about 11:15, but I think all of the cold fixings on top really cooled it down. The meat had a nice Asian flair to it, but there was not a lot of meat on it at all. It was mostly toppings. For a meat sandwich, I want the meat to jump out at me and say "Hello!" I had to dig in for a few bites to get to some actual substantive meat product. The jalapenos were good, but again, not spicy enough for my palette, could be a Minnesota thing, hence the double hot kicker I wanted. The Diet Coke I ordered was ice cold, which was great and only a buck, so for $7 it was an okay sandwich and drink, but I have been told their burritos are killer. I had a style of this in Seattle at Pikes Market, which was more of a steamed dumpling full of the same type of meat, which was fantastic! Maybe steaming the bread would add more heat and goodness to the meal. My friend's Mojo was good, but not great though, he thought the sausage was a little undercooked and cool as well. Hopefully it was because we caught them early It wasn't bad by any stretch, but for my first Minneapolis food truck experience, I wanted a Holy Grail. Maybe I had a little too much high expectations. Lots more trucks to try, and a friend who is master of them, so I will continue to try them once a month. Good times with a buddy and a first try at food truckness that was okay, just not great. Again, the guys inside the truck were great though.

My vote is "Nay". Trumped up prices for street food is pretty sad but I can see why they charge up to $8 for their brand of street food. They need to make up for all the food they are giving away. They stuff the korean burrito with TOO much filling. I'd have to grow a second mouth to be able to eat that over-sized burrito. After only three bites, the thing fell apart. I really found that annoying. I would have preferred a smaller sized version that is wrapped tightly so I can enjoy as it is supposed to be eaten, in a burrito wrap, instead of picking at the fallen contents(everything fell out)! The taste was rather bland and forgettable despite the presence of traditionally powerful tasting items such as kim chee, and korean bbq. What did they do? Hose the ingredients down with water before wrapping it up in the burrito? Nice try, but no thanks.

Korean BBQ burrito was bland and a big disappointment Also tried the mini egg rolls and they were like some cheap frozen turd you'd buy in a grocery store. no flavor, not fresh, just awful. tony tight rolled with not much of anything in them. Hola Arepa kicks this truck butt!

I was introduced to this truck by a co-worker as the both of us were outside enjoying the few Falls days we have remaining. Banh mi...OMG! I was shocked at the size of their baguette. The bread was airy possessing a light sweet flavor. The pork was SOOOO good and the marinade could be tasted in every bite. To compliment the stuffing of meat was their house pickle, cucumber, and jalapenos---also a GENEROUS amount. If I could eat it all in one sitting I would have, but the bright side is that I'm able to have this for dinner, SCORE! My friend got the Currito with "2 kicks" and that too was enormous! I was able to sample a few bites and who would have thought that Thai curry served in a tortilla wrap would be such a perfect match. To balance out the spiciness the lettuce, zing sauce, and potatoes were a nice balance. However, I would opt for only 1 kick as the Thai chili was too hot for me. They also had the presence of mind to battle the elements by offering a cover to shelter people in case of rain and a heater to battle the cold. Kudos to them for being so thoughtful! Lastly, they have something that many other food operations have long forgotten, which is service with a smile. It's good to know that your business is appreciated and you're not viewed as "the next ticket"---even though we are. The customer service and truck amendities are a plus, but at the end of the day it will be the AWESOME food that will continue bringing me back! So many options to choose from.

I've been stalking the VD Truck for weeks now...(on second thought, maybe the "VD Truck" is a terrible nickname) and I finally caught up with it. It was the first truck in the MPLS area to offer the ever-so-popular Korean BBQ Pork Taco that has taken the food truck scene by storm. But VD isn't a one trick pony, oh no, just about everything on the menu is great. In fact, it causes a dilemma everytime I step up to place my order. Do I get the egg rolls, or the Bahn mi? The tacos, or a giant burrito? Eitherway, it's getting washed down with a fresh and zippy Agua fresca..flavor of the day of course. Also, they play tunes while you wait in line, so you can jam out as you try to figure out what to order. Don't think I didn't notice Vellee!

Fish tacos are to die for! Ask for their kicker sauce. Two shots of kicker to be exact! Crispy fillet topped with cabbage salad, fresh wedges and kicker sauce. OMG! I also tried their egg rolls. Nothing special about the egg rolls. I'm biased because I DO make THE BEST egg rolls...sorry, Vellee. I wish they would service St. Paul more often.

The Mojo gets my mojo going! You must try it if you have not yet! But warning, it is very, very fulfilling. I usually get full halfway in, but it's so good I always devour it in one sitting. The Vellee rolls (mini eggrolls) are always a favorite too. Mmmm-mmm!
