This is an unpretentious restaurant. It's location looks like it used to be a part of the now out-of-business Country Kitchen chain, now turned into a Thai Restaurant. I can't get enough of their fried egg rolls and Pad Thai. There Peanut Sauce is perfect too. I've tried the Bung Bo, it's good. But the Pad Thai is the best. My sister and I have been eating here for years and keep coming back.

Don't let the looks fool you, the decor leaves something to be desired, but the food is excellent. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai the first time I visited, and I can't bring myself to try anything else because it's so good! The meat egg rolls are great as well. A few times they were a little too greasy, but I'll give them a pass on that. I can't speak on the rest of the menu because like I mentioned, I can't bring myself to try anything other than the Chicken Pad Thai. It's close to lunch time and just thinking about it makes me even more hungry!

Unprepossessing room, great food. Whenever I'm in Minnesota, my sister and I have to dine here at least once. It's a chilly, boxy little room, wouldn't lead you to expect much, but don't be deceived. From the "special spring rolls" which are pure heaven, through the curries and noodles and wraps and dips, it's all just great. We always get more food than we can really eat, because it's all so GOOD that even after we're stuffed to the gills we sit there staring resentfully at the food that remains, 'cause there JUST ISN'T ANY PLACE FOR IT. Oh sure, you can take it home, and it's fine the next day, but oh my, when it's fresh from the kitchen! The service, as noted, can be iffy, but we've always been very lucky. The clientele's another matter. One evening we were the only people there till a family with three small children (under 10) came in. The kids were all over the place, lying on the floor, playing tag around the tables and generally being obnoxious as the parents chatted on, all oblivious. I would happily have just thrown them all out, and maybe run over them a few times in the parking lot for good measure, but the sweet Thai waitstaff was unfailingly pleasant and polite to them. So, when you walk in, look around and choose your table carefully.

Excellent food. Very surprised and while the service was not super slick the food was worth it. Eggs rolls excellent and the chicken and curries were possibly the best flavored we have eaten for a long time. Glad we rolled the dice on this place

What a rare gem in the northern suburbs. Please head over here before you ever think about another chinese buffet... Food made to order, authentic, amazing service. And when they say spicy... it's spicy! You will leave very satisfied and happy you didn't spend a fortune.

We love the food at the Taste of Thailand, have visited both the Minneapolis location and the location in Fridley, both have décor that leave something to be desired, but the food is what we go there for...service is quick, friendly, love the spring rolls, servings are large enough to be able to share or plan for leftovers. Prices are reasonable and really appreciate having this option in the suburbs. Our favorites are the Laab Nua and the Laab Gai.

I can admit that when I go here I only order two things special egg rolls (not regular) and the pineapple fried rice and I love it and don't want order anything else. I have ordered a shrimp curry dish that they made special order for me, but I am to addicted to my egg rolls and pineapple rice. But, I do appreciate the time they did that special order b/c it was delicious. Anyway, the decor is ugly but the food is around 3-4 dollars for an app. and 8-12 per entree and I think that $15/per person for app and entree is a steal in my opinion. If you do want to try the pineapple rice realize it comes in spicy levels 1-5. I have gotten myself up to a three. In regards to the special egg rolls, just try them they are soooo good. I think they have received awards for them before if I am not mistaken. Either way, their good. Try it out.

Great thai food in the northern burbs! The pork egg rolls were very yummy as well as the spring rolls. I also ordered the pad thai with beef and my only complaint was that there was minimal amounts of beef in it but the flavor was just as good as any thai restaurant in Minneapolis! No fear burb people.....great thai food can be found in places other than Minneapolis!

With a vague memory of crummy service it has taken us many years of living 8 minutes away to finally order from Taste of Thailand in Fridley. Despite lack of a website/online menu we placed our order and ran to pick it up. Our food was hot and waiting, although I was a bit surprised at how high the total price was, considering only ordering 3 items. But given a lack of take-out menu available I had no way to refute the price. Anyway, the food was delicious! We got 2 orders of veggie Pad Thai for the kiddos and me and the husband got Mosman Curry. As it turns out their humongous portions necessitated the delivery of one of the Pad Thais to our Thai-Virgin neighbors (note: NOT the same thing as "our virgin Thai neighbors"). Even the husband awarded 4-stars to his Mosman Curry (and this is the man who has been known to say "hey that was good! I'd give it 2 stars!") If you're in the area, it's a must. But stick to pick-up please, the decor is abysmal. I took the 4-year-old with and after we were home he declared "Mama, I did NOT like that place, there was only that one girl and nobody else. It is much better to eat it at home."

Spendy and doesn't look great, but the taste is great and they give you a ton of food. Not enough beef in the pad Thai but I'd go back.

Wah! Great place for authentic Thai food. Strange little tables arranged in the front, plants around the place, and unique tiny atmosphere. I had the Duck Curry soup and poured that over my rice and chomped the whole thing down. DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Curry and coconut is my thing. Check this place out. Fabulous!

I still love Taste of Thailand since I wrote my original review a year ago, but I have to knock off some stars given several experiences over the past year. Don't get me wrong - we still go here somewhat regularly because it's pretty good Thai food for the 'burbs, but a few things have had us venturing more to Karta Thai which is further away in Columbia Heights. 1. They are incredibly inconsistent with their hours and answering the phone. I have called at 6 pm on weekdays and weeknights and no one answers. Now, I realize they may be busy, but to call three or four times and not have anyone answer? Come on. Also, they really will just close whenever they feel like it. 2. The curry's are pretty excellent - which is now pretty much exclusively what I get - but the fried rice has been overcooked the last few times my husband has gotten it, as has the pad thai. Overcooked grains are just not appealing. 3. The appetizers are somewhat subpar. The chicken satay has been overly burnt the last few times we have ordered it and the fried tofu is really unspectacular (especially when compared to the amazing HH fried tofu at Roat Osha). The fresh spring rolls are the best appetizer on the menu, though they aren't the "best" like they claim. (Seriously, them calling their spring rolls the best in the Cities is like that scene in "Elf" when he is excited to have the "best coffee in NYC" at some dingy diner). We only ever order takeout, but the inside could certainly use a little updating. Overall, Taste of Thailand has some high points (seriously, the curry's are really good, especially the red curry!) but it has lost some of its original luster in the eyes of this Thai-food obsessed suburban resident.

It pains me to give them this crappy review. I've been eating here with my wife for years...for years even before the previous owner sold it. I only eat ONE thing: beef curry. Sometimes I throw in a soup and some sort of egg roll or spring roll. But the beef curry is my old standby. I can always count on it being really good. I haven't been there for about a year. Here's what happened THIS time... GOOD: The service was decent. (The service is always decent.) The special egg rolls were good. The tea was good. BAD: The beef curry was super watery (more like soup) and only had three small morsels of beef in it. What a rip off! It's obvious they're cutting back on ingredients. Are they in financial trouble? I peeked at the buffet. It was pretty lame. (The buffet was always pretty lame.) The buffet ended 2 hours prior but no one lifted a finger to break it down...but plenty of time to screw around on the cell phone. Lazy? To top it off, the servers have turned one table into some sort of study desk; they do paperwork and watch TV there. It's piled up with crap. The ceiling tiles are stained and gross. The carpet is disgusting. I actually saw old chunks of food sitting at the base of the emergency exit. You get the idea. There's been a definite downward slide. Now I understand why there are less cars in the parking lot when I drive by everyday. My wife told me not to go because of the car thing but I ignored her. She was right. -Daddy Maxx Retro

The food was great. The waiter wasn't the greatest. All of our plates came out separately and took time in between. There were four of us eating and by the time that I got my food, the last to arrive, the first person was nearly done with theirs. I'll be back but probably for takeout.

Great service and great food for cheap!! Best tom yum soup ever!!! Very spicy! Food here is cheap so it's affordable! They also have a very hot waiter!! Lol Most authentic Thai food in mn

Delicious Thai food! I wished we live closer! Pra ram long song and the special egg rolls are my usual, and I am always satisfied with them!

Never been disappointed. Traditional Thai food always hot, fresh and delicious. Spicy as you want!!

Off the menu food is alright. The lunch buffet is quite good and a good deal for the money. It had real Thai food in the buffet and not Chinese food. Note: this place is a little run down so it is not a good choice for a first date.

I work near the Taste of Thailand. It is fantastic Thai food and the service is great. We often will order for lunch and they are super speedy in getting our order ready. I'm seriously addicted to their spring rolls. Highly recommend!

Oops - meant sawadee Thai in St. Paul. Took me here. Yelp sucks. Clearly restaurants that pay yelp are only ones that show up.

This place may be a "shithole" but it's a shithole that serves awesome Thai food. Their fresh spring rolls and tom yum soup are amazing! The quality of the food is very good and very fresh ingredients. Some of the servers are better than others but its not that big of a deal. The pad thai is really good and their cold thai tea's they have are really good. Don't let the appearance scare you. They look dead a lot of the time (except during the lunch buffet served M-F) but they do a lot of take out orders.

Decor and atmosphere is kinda trashy and dated but service pretty good Started with cream cheese wontons - tasty Spring rolls were fresh and generous portion for cost I chose beef pad Thai ; beef was tasty but beef to noodle ratio was a bit off and there was a ton of noodles. My guy chose beef laab nua which was apparently also tasty and quite spicy. Pretty tasty and good value for money. Probably take-out next time.

Craving me some Thai and had to stop after work today for take-out. LOVE the chicken curry and the special egg rolls with peanut sauce. About $15 for my order of these 2 items, and it's a least 2 meals for me with the portions received. Check it out once, and you will find yourself going back for more. :)

Unpretentious is the great word to describe this restaurant. Its family owned and the man who always takes my order is super friendly. At first I thought it was a bit expensive but the portions are very generous! I stuffed my face with my chicken pad thai and my mom was able to eat enough to get full and there was STILL enough for me to have left overs for a midnight snack. Love this place and will continue to come here since its the only place north of the twin cities that has good thai! *EDITED* After over a year of living in the Twin Cities area, I had to change this rating from a 4 to a 5. At one point I was ordering them once a week (typically on Thursday). Its just so damn good. I have looked and looked and have not found one Thai place its comparable to in terms of food quantity and spice. The Sawadee in St. Paul is great but way to far for me to make a trip down once a week. My one little problem is that I think they have simmered down in the spice, I used to have to chug milk while eating a medium spiced pad thai but now I can order hot and it still isn't as spicy as it used to be. Nonetheless, it still is one of the best thai places I have been to living in Minnesota. I recently went to Seattle and believe it or not MISSED this place even though Seattle has a thai restaurant at almost every street corner. Definitely a place to check out.

For years this space had restaurants come and go every couple of years or so, but T of T II has been holding strong for at least 8 years now which must just be an indication of the bad taste local yokles have in Thai cuisine. This is by far the worst Thai I have ever had, its pretty much the most flavorless bland pan Asian-esque cuisine I have ever tried. and its actually pretty over priced for what it is. Its always really really cold in here, so order something hot to drink and dont take your coat off.

This is not fancy-pants Thai Food. Don't go here expecting to eat posh, multi-colored, extravagent Thai served in pretty clay pot dishes. I had a chicken curry when I went. I believe any Thai restuarant can be judged by how good their plain-ole curry is. The sauce was absolutely perfect in flavor and thickness. The taste was excellent. However, there was not any additional vegetables worth noting. If I remember correctly there were peas, potatoes and onions. This did not concern me because the sauce is really the most important part of the meal. (Actually I ate all the meat out of the dish and still had left over sauce. I took this home and ate leftovers of rice and sauce and I loved it.) The meal was a bit over priced for the quality of the ingredients, but I have to agree that it is probably the only thai food around the area. I did not eat off of the lunch buffet, but I have to mention that it was mostly chinese food anyway. I've actually noticed this trend at a lot of places. If they are Vietnamese or Thai or even Korean, you can still get some variation of Mandarin quick-food. So if you are having a Thai emergency... I mean a real craving for coconut laden goodness, and you are in Fridley. Go to Taste of Thai II and get some curry. Save the sauce.......... go home and mix in some of your own ingredients and poof!!! your a thai chef now too!

I've lived in the area for years and finally just stopped by here for some take out. I ordered Fresh Spring Rolls, Chicken Pad Thai and the Chicken Curry but asked for them to make it as green curry instead of red. This was a lot of food and could easily feed 3 or 4 people. I'm excited to finally find a great thai restuarant close to home in the Northern burbs! Everything was very delicious and ranks right up there in quality and taste with Thai resturants downtown or closer to downtown. The spring rolls were very good and perfect texture. The chicken pad thai was excellent and had good flavor. The green curry chicken also had an excellent flavor and had carrots, snow peas and bamboo shoots in it as well. I ordered everything medium spicy and it was perfect for me and I'm not a spice wuss by any means. I could feel the heat but also still taste the flavors. The only negative comment I have is the building and decor could use improvements but as with many asian places, looks don't necessarily mean the food is bad. I will definitely be going back and would recommend it to others!
