We wanted to get dinner at Pannekoeken at about 7pm on a Monday. However, we never even made it to a table. There were just a few other people in the whole restaurant, but no employees in sight. When a server walked by with food, I expected her to acknowledge us and say she would be with us in a moment. Instead, she brushed by without evening looking at us. We waited a few more minutes, but ended up leaving when the same server walked by to ring up other customers, again without acknowledging us. Such a shame. I really wanted to like this cute little cafe, but this will be both my first and last time visiting.

I absolutely love their apple pannekoekens! I know -- the atmosphere is pretty awful. But I don't care. As long as they keep making those apple pannekoekens, I am one happy customer.

This place was HORRIBLE. We came here because of the reviews and when our food was set down in front of us, we just looked at each other and almost wanted to walk out. My husband always asks for hollandaise sauce on the side of his benedict - because it's good to see what your putting on your food before it's actually smothered in it. This was separated, and looked more like traditional hummus with an oil drizzle on top. We moved that to the side and it honestly grossed us both out to look at it. I got a veggie omelette with WAY too much shredded Gouda cheese on top. The waitress was nice enough, but once we wanted to pay our bill we literally had to go ask over the window for her in back. NEVER coming back. Disgusted and sad that the people of Minnesota have rated this higher than 2 stars. We both felt sick to our stomachs till late into the evening.

As a Dutch person who moved here 2 years ago, I found these so called "Dutch" pancakes quite disappointing. They're not bad, they're just not great compared to actual pancakes. But aside from that, the pancakes are good. So when you're an American looking for something Dutch (since there is nothing else): go for it! If you're a Dutch person looking for some long lost familiar tastes: go for it! But if you want pancakes that are dutch to the bone, probably buying a plane ticket will be more effective.

While on a trip Minnesota we wanted to find a unique breakfast joint to try... And we found a gem! Absolutely loved the jumbo cinnamon roll that comes as a side with your breakfast. The Dutch Country omelette was a hit too, stuffed with delicious meats, cheese and onions. Would definitely make a trip back!

Nothing about this place stood out to me, the food was decent but nothing great about it, the wait staff wasn't friendly but they paid attention at least and the price was reasonable for a meal to fill your stomach.
(3)Mon P.
I have only tried their dutch pancakes, and I love them .. the savory with bacon or the sweet with chocolate and whipped cream or the one with fresh fruits. They are all good and huge!
(4)Randy T.
From the outside, I was quite skeptical that this place would be any better than the next diner, but when the food it the table it was clear that it was! Pick any of the German Pancakes (Pannekoeken) on the menu and I doubt you will be disappointed. I am a particular fan of the Banana Cream Pannekoeken. The service is decent, the wait for this type of food seems really short and everything is always tasty!!

I came here just because our friends told us that the servers have to shout-sing "PAAAAAAAAANNE-KOOOOOOOOEKEN" when you order a pannekoeken. Really. That's all that initially drew me here. I had no idea that grand eye rolls and put out sighs would accompany this pancake war-cry. Seriously though, I love me some pannekoeken...and some Pannekoeken. The decor is kitschy - think of it as a Dutch Denny's, but with less smoke, and more blue and white China tchotchkes. The last time we visited, just a couple of days ago, I ordered the banana and pineapple pannekoeken, which was basically a shallow bowl made of pancake batter. Inside this delicious, edible bowl was a mix of pineapples (from a can), sliced nanners, and a really unpleasant looking "gravy" that tasted really amazing. Once I covered it with whipped cream, we were in business. Service was quick, pleasant, and the food came out fast. Our coffee was kept full, the dishes were clean, and our server was adorable and very nice. One star missing because honestly, I think the place could afford to shut down for a day and do a real deep cleaning. Don't get me wrong - Pannekoeken is clean - but not antiseptically so. And just do it - order a pannekoeken. You'll thank me.

First time here. It was pretty good! The pannekoeken was good. It's a bit eggier than I thought, but good. Stick with the traditional. It's the best!

5 stars - - that's right! I'm giving them 5.damn.stars!! 5 stars because their Dutch Apple Pannekoeken's taste EVEN BETTER than the one's that I had in Amsterdam. (And noo.... I KNOW what you're thinking! I wasn't on any spacecakes there or anything.) 5 stars for the crunchiness of this apple-baked pannekoeken 5 stars for the awesome service that I've had both times I've recently visited I love breakfast food for sure.... but these apple pannekoeken's I crave. The interior of the restaurant isn't much, I'll give you that. They do have some weekly specials M-F from 7am to 10am - - unfortunately the Pannekoeken isn't a special. But they also have DAILY specials. Mondays are "Buy 1 Pannkoken, get one for $3.99". I don't recall what the other ones are, other than my husband's gonna have to go with me next Monday! Yes, gone are the days when the servers would run from the kitchen exclaiming "Pannekooeeeeekn!!" Now it's just a slight exaggeration. They have other food there too, but I don't see myself ordering too much other than what their known for.
(5)Ellis D.
Caramel roll was cold and obviously from yesterday. New coffee brand of Morningstar local brand is awful. Just save the trouble and order water. Breakfast potatoes were raw don't bother. Maybe hash browns are better. Told manager of issue he could care less.
(1)Katherine B.
Pannekoeken!! My husband says they used to yell it out, but now the waitstaff just kind of says it in a pleasant special way as it comes towards your table. That's probably for the best. I know, you are all thinking five stars? For Pannekoeken? Here's the thing. We're not the Michelin guide here on Yelp. We're about the community, right? And dear old Pannekoeken speaks to me in a community way. Plus, those one of a kind pancakes! This is the kind of place where I would feel comfortable letting the waitress hold my baby while I take my toddler to the bathroom. (She did in fact ask) This is the kind of place I would take my parents. This is the kind of place I would take all my old clothes. (No really -- they have a donation box in the lobby, so that bag I've been meaning to drop at ARC? Done! Yay community!) I wasn't expecting much from the menu, but we ordered the specials. You can get a giant cinnamon roll as a side. Should I repeat that? We split the giant cinnamon roll (not a stand alone piece of perfection, but still very good) four ways. Appetizer at breakfast? Yes. Adult omelet = generous on the meat. Almost too much. Kids meals = very generous portions for the price. Pannekoeken = PANNEKOEKEN. Sure, you can get better food (and longer waits and higher prices) just a bit east of here. But I dont think you'll find a better community joint.
(5)Andy W.
Walking in, the smell of oil permeated, and the lighting is nauseatingly bright. The pannekoeken was tasty, but really overpriced (nearly $8). My wife ordered something with mashed potatoes and they were instant, which is an insult considering the prices. I just thought yelp led us astray by rating this place so highly, so I wanted to put my .02/3 stars in so people didn't expect something different based on yelp like us.

I moved to minne 2 months ago and have been here 8 times. I now preach the gospel of pannekoeken as my ministry. every single out of town guest I have had has been like "holy shit why have the Dutch been holding out on us??" Every immigrant group knows the rules: you have to contribute your fattiest food to the American palette. it's the only way you get to stay here. I can't believe that the Dutch were only offering up stupidly wooden shoes and paint made of boys before this. PANNAKOEKEN IS PIE ON TOP FUNNEL CAKE ON BOTTOM, PERSONALLY BAKED BY ALL TWELVE APOSTLES. and mon thru Friday breakfast specials are $5??? DANKE. (is that Dutch? no. German. fuck it).
(4)Lotus F.
I must give this restaurant five stars. This is the first time in several years that I had a Dutch Pancake, as I am new to Minneapolis, and I am still trying to find places to eat. My Dutch Pancake was amazing ... piled high with blueberries, blackberries, red raspberries, brown sugar, and whip cream. I thought it would be crisp when I first saw it, but it was quite soft to bite into. I felt the service was wonderful. I had to wrap my New Mexican tongue around the pronunciation "pannnkooooken"- my server helped me form the word correctly...please, don't ask me to spell it! Yes, yes, I will be returning!!!!
(5)Lou S.
Typical american diner with big portions of food. The service was excellent and staff was really friendly.
(4)Sarah H.
I went here for Father's Day, as the BFs family is Danish and sometimes they can't help but get some of that old world flair. These Dutch pancakes emulate just that and they are delicious to boot. I cannot remember the name of my pannekoeken, but it was basically a western omlette...in a pannekoeken. Say what! Smothered in the best hollaindaise sauce in the Twin Cities. That may be a throw down, but I'm willing to pick it back up because it is not easy to make a good hollandaise sauce and I have been looking for a loooong time up here. There are plenty that are adequate or even good, but not great. This was great. Downside? The coffee was weak. Like, doctor's office weak. Bring in some strong, fresh coffee and not only will you add some authenticity to that Dutch atmosphere, but you just might get bumped up to 5 stars.

Why would I ever want to go there again?? Very unsatisfactory experience. The place is run down & dirty looking. The carpet is filthy. My immediate impression upon entering is these people are riding on their laurels. Muffins are just sitting out on top of a counter as you walk in - no cover, not in a case, just waiting to be sneezed on. I went there about 11:30AM which must have been "Crabby Hour". The service was lousy at best. Self service would have been way better. Ms. Personality comes to take my order and that's about the last time we spoke. Didn't bother to come over & ask if everything was ok, did I need anything else, etc. She eventually walked by & simply put the bill on the table without a word & walked away. When I went to pay I got the same sh*tty attitude from the guy who must be either the owner/manager. He just took the the check & my credit card without a word, & handed it to Ms. Personality (maybe his wife?) to run because he was really, really busy reading his newspaper at the first booth. It reminded me of the YouTube Honey Badger voice over: "honey badger don't give a sh*t!" Go to the Original House of Pancakes for real service & see why there are always people waiting to be seated. At Pannenkoeken people are lined up to get out the door.

I'm a breakfast-loving New Yorker, and a very snooty one at that. Thus I was delightfully surprised to find a type of pancake I had never tried before, and then to discover that it was absolutely delicious! These panneokoeken are incredible, with nice crispy edges and fluffy insides stuffed with apples and cranberries (in my case). The whole thing seems to be drizzled with a delicious syrup to give it some extra flare and moisture. I almost died right there and then. We also ordered a breakfast skillet, which really is an incredible breakfast concept which I'd like to see more of back home. Though it wasn't served in a real cast-iron skillet, it was still a glorious combination of fried eggs, sausage, ham, hashbowns, veggies, and cheese perfectly layered in a pan. The only downsides to our meal here were the weak coffee, unfriendly service (although it was admittedly attentive), and unfortunate location on a highway.
(4)Hari T.
Love the fresh fruits with my pannekoeken. Taste the kiwi, strawberry and pineapple version.
(5)gnat a.
Almost all of the seating is booths - love that! Friendly & attentive service. We shared the everything omelet, breakfast skins, and banana cream pannekoeken. The omelet & skins come with choice of pancake, toast or big cinnamon roll. Definitely go with the toast, you get two thick hearty pieces. The cinnamon roll was good too, and it comes out warm before your meal, but the toast is a better deal. The pannekoeken was the best tasting of all, besides the side of thick bacon (how could I forget it?!) It had pudding and fresh bananas with whip topping. I could never conquer it myself, it would have to be shared. The breakfast skins would have been good, had I realized they were made with american cheese (can't stand the grainy texture) I would have asked for a different cheese. They were real potato skins with scrambled eggs, ham, onions, peppers, and cheese smothered on top. The omelet was kind of disappointing, since it was more like scrambled eggs laid over toppings. It was yummy, but prolly coulda went with the scramble. The hash browns were perfect, not greasy and right amount of crispy. They leave the pot of coffee on the table, and a carafe of water if you suck down a lot of it. The water was refreshing even if its tap (it didn't taste like tap), and the coffee had good flavor. Plenty of parking in their lot, and great prices. They also have daily specials too.

I didn't order a pannekoeken for the same reason I wouldn't order a breakfast that required five platters delivered to the table. Too much sugar. To much carbs. too many calories. Too huge. So I got a half turkey sandwich and a dinner salad. The turkey was deli, meaning flavored and compressed meat protein and gelatin. Everything else was just as you would imagine. I didn't finish either. My friend had a pastrami sandwich served with a pile of mash potatoes and gravy. I couldn't get excited about the place. While waiting for the cashier, I watched a couple as they sat down for breakfast - delivered hot out of the kitchen on five platters and skillets. Next to them was an extremely large lady eating a cream-filled pannekoeken, in a wheelchair and on supplemental oxygen. Yes, that's why I didn't order a pannekoeken.

Great place with charm, great service, friendly people, good coffee and they left me the pitcher Wish I knew what other reviews were whining about as I had no concerns. Great food! Fun. Triple berry was very tasty and generous berries.
(5)Sarah M.
Everything on the menu sounds delicious to me and the meatloaf I had there was pretty awesome. My husband got a Dutch pot pie or something like that which was also very good.
(4)Melissa P.
We decided to find a something local and unique for breakfast in St. Louis Park before leaving town. There are some classic and unique options on the menu. I had the traditional pannekoeken with granny smith apples and cinnamon sugar glaze. It was huge, thick, and delicious! Heavy on apple and the batter was egg-y. Delicious! My husband had a skillet and it was a TON of food and the cinnamon roll that came with the meal was ginormous and yummy.
(4)Lauren H.
LOVE this place! It's a family owned restaurant and it might get busy on the weekend mornings but really, what else do you expect?! The portions are huge and the servers are gorgeous! Whenever I'm here I order either the Veggie Frittata, Veggie Omelet, or the Apple Pannekoeken if I feel like cheating on my diet.
(5)Brian K.
I love Pannekoeken. What a unique eat! Here's the tip - you have the get the Pannekoeken. Wow - what a surprise. :) It's a baked pancake that is eggy, sweet, and delish. I can still taste it and its been over 6 months. The vibe is older. It looks like an older diner that hasn't been renovated in a long time, if ever. The location is just off a busy avenue. The service is just ok. But the PANNEKOEKEN!!! Come on people!!!
(5)Gary H.
Good service. The apple pannekoeken is the only thing I ever order, and I ask for "light glaze", otherwise they put too much brown sugar on it. The pannekoekens seem to be getting smaller as time goes by, which I'm not happy about.
(4)Derek Y.
Pannekoeken Huis is amazing! I've had several of the different options for pannekoeken, and every time, it's delicious. Light and fluffy with the right amount of fruit. This is definitely a place to go if you're looking for a good breakfast.

Forgetting that it was Valentine's Day, I took my kids out to dinner at the Huis (my wife was working late, but like every Valentine's Day we had planned to fondue after the kids went to bed). I pigged out on a pannekoeken variety in which bacon pieces are cooked directly into it. When it arrived there was a little cup of applesauce and a cup of syrup on the plate. So when it rome ... I poured them both onto the pennekoeken, as well as the cup of whip cream that came with my daughters pancakes, what the heck. It was tasty, but I liked more the hot blueberry pannekoeken I'd had the last time, which came with cups of brown sugar and syrup. Given that the fruit is already a super sugary goop, I call it the diabetes special. My 3 year old's pancakes came with a whole mess of once frozen strawberry pieces in syrupy strawberry slop. Valentine's Day was saved by a romantic 80s dvd. At the climax of the movie just when Jeff Bridges was professing his love for Karen Allen (after he had already told her that he had impregnated her with an alien baby), we heard our 1 year old throwing up in her crib. However, it wasn't the Huis' fault, because looking back at our dinner she had only eaten two bites of pannekoeken, so obviously her stomach problems had started beforehand. Good place for kids! Money Saved - $9 using a restaurant. com certificate.

Peach. Try it. I love sweets and this is a great place I go to treat myself for breakfast every once in a while. Every kind I've tried has been amazing! It's a cozy little place, good to meet up with a friend and chat over a good breakfast and coffee.
(5)Jose Q.
This place is a hidden gem. The food is fantastic. It honestly seems like you cannot go wrong with anything you order here. My girl and I have been coming here a couple times a week since we discovered this place and let me tell you, we love it.
(4)Elizabeth M.
Dutch pancakes. The type of stick to your bones food that will stay with you all day. The kind you eat with applesauce, not syrup. The pannekoeken are dense pancakes (or thick crepes, take your pick). I had mine with bacon (it was loaded and baked in it) and my brunch partner had one topped with banana and pineapple. There was a special that included fresh mango too. It was just what we were looking for - diner food with a twist. The wait staff are delightfully Minnesota nice (I'm still not used to the niceties here in the state) and the atmosphere is outdated. But the pannekoeken? Perfect for a weekend brunch.
(4)Lauren F.
Seriously people? You went to Pannekoeken and got something that wasn't a pannekoeken and then thought, "I'm going to write a review about how the food at Pannekoeken that isn't a pannekoeken isn't good." There's a reason the restaurant is named Pannekoeken. I'll give you a hint: it's the pannekoekens. I ended up going to this restaurant with my boyfriend because I had yet to find a good breakfast place that I didn't get sick of. I love pancakes, but they always end up being a little too sweet for me, and I'm more than a little crazy about popovers. Enter the pannekoeken. A dutch pancake is a beautiful marriage between a popover and a pancake that you can top with basically anything (boiled shoe leather, motor oil, etc) and it will be insanely delicious. Fortunately, the menu at Pannekoeken chooses more favorable toppings. My preferred topping is the triple berry variety which has raspberries, blackberries and blueberries on it. The berries are not from a can, and they are not syrupy, and it's so insanely good. The atmosphere of the restaurant is not really that exciting - it looks like where Dennys' went to die. However, the servers are all really really nice, and very attentive. Moreover, I'd rather have cheap delicious food in a dated setting than sit around paying $30 for a mediocre pancake in the freaking Taj Mahal of breakfast joints. But seriously, pannekoekens are delicious.

First, I have to say it's hilarious to me that Pannekoeken Huis is listed under "traditional American" cuisine... Then again, the Dutch people I know probably think the same thing. Pannekoeken used to be a treat for me growing up. I guess I just thought there was something special about it because they served the sugary goodness that is the pannekoenken. But aside from that one item, this place is basically a poor man's IHOP. The interior of every restaurant in this chain seems a little sub-standard, but I guess at least they do manage to pay homage to the Netherlands in various ways. The good thing is that they usually are stand-alone restaurants with ample parking and getting seated quickly usually isnt an issue. Aside from the pennekoeken itself, the menu is pretty standard with average to above-average pricing. It's certainly not someplace Id go to have a "cheap" breakfast when there are so many top-quality spots not too far from there. However, I will give them credit for their signature dish. I doubt most people would even know what a pannekoeken was if not for this place. For those who dont know... It's basically a pie thats acceptable to eat before noon. They are huge, sugary (unless you get a savory one, of course), rich, and filling. If you order the banana cream or apple cranberry, you will feel ill for hours--in a good way. I recommend sharing a sweet pannekoeken if you are dining with someone (keep in mind they take awhile to make so the wait time is a bit longer), and then share a regular entree as well. If you do this, please for the love of God just dont get the cinnamon roll as your side option. You may explode from the sugar rush. Overall... Go for the pannekoeken, but not for anything else. Drive into Minneapolis and dine at Grand Cafe for a buck or two more. There are so many good options just down the road in Uptown as well--check those out sometime. Pros: Easy parking, fast-seating, the pannekoeken (apple cranberry is my fav) Cons: Menu is typical breakfast food, nothing special about pricing or the interior design, not as good overall as Perkins or IHOP
(2)Ashley Y.
After eying this establishment for quite sometime now, I went to yelp to see if it was worth a stop. The rating on this place made me sad, but after reading the previous reviews I decided to give this place a try anyway and I'm glad I did. Ordered the apple pannekoeken (my first) which is a baked, thick skillet crepe with sliced apples and cinnamon sugar. I thought it was very good. Saw some of the other plates cruise by my table and thought they looked pretty tasty as well. Yes the place looks like a '93 IHOP but really, what did you expect?
(4)Tony C.
I really enjoyed the size of the portions here. They were just huge. The bread was fresh. I got a biscuit with sausage and eggs and gravy on top, with Hash browns. It was so good. The entrees were under $10. How can you go wrong. Will definitely come back for brunch.
(4)Kc K.
good solid breakfast joint, with friendly staff. you're not getting a greasy spoon atmosphere, and the crowd is a mix of all ages, but it still feels unique with the Pannekoeken specialties and the fun way they announce such orders. my boys (8 n 10) love the place and ask to come here. Not fine dining, but who wants that for brunch?
(4)Rhonda G.
It just dawned on me why when I moved here I never missed IHOP, and about 10 or so years later I did. Being a regular put it mildly. At the end a few of the chains shut down, including my favorite one in Roseville, where it's now Outback, due to mismanagement, even some scandal in the paper. People were outraged! They never lacked customers, always busy. That puffy dutch pancake, the women in granny dresses, running out with it, then watching it fall, and smothering it with syrup. Add homemade breads and a cool retail area. You're damn right I was here weekly. But somehow it lost it's soul and luster. Good items taken off the menu, changing recipes, weak coffee(even for me), made plenty of opportunity for people to not even mention it and for IHOP to move right on in. Amazingly some are still around. I've experienced better from the restaurant itself!
(2)Josh L.
I love this place. Great brunch and a pannekoeken is unique and delicious. And when you order Pannekoeken, they announce it to the entire restaurant! I can't wait to go back!
(5)William K.
I am baffled as to how this establishment has anything more than two stars. The first thing you notice when walking in is how run down the place is. It's supposed to be a Dutch themed breakfast joint, but it really just resembles a nursing home cafeteria. The place is filled with people over 70 and their middle aged children. The decor is dated and the restaurant isn't clean. The food was disgusting and actually made me a little sick to my stomach. I ordered the eggs benedict and my girlfriend ordered the corn beef hash with a side of biscuits and gravy. Each meal comes with a choice of sides such as toast, a bagel, or a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was probably the least disgusting thing I ate, but it tasted stale. The hollandaise for the eggs benedict tasted of gravy and didn't appear to be fresh. It had none of the acidity of hollandaise. The poached eggs were totally overcooked; the yolk was hard in the middle. The corn beef hash wasn't bad, although I'm willing to bet it came out of a can. The hash browns that come with the meal were watered down and flavorless. The biscuits my girlfriend ordered were dry and sucked any moisture out of your mouth. Overall, the food was the worst thing I've eaten in years. The service was okay. There was only one server on when we arrived, and she was fairly attentive. She neglected to ask why I left more than half my meal on my plate though, so we wrote our thoughts on our receipt and promptly left. If you're looking for a quick place to get brunch, opt for anywhere else but here. The interior will depress you and the food will leave you feeling nauseous.
(1)Joey F.
This place has the good feeling of a brunch diner. The food is pretty good. They have very big portions. Very good cinnamon rolls. The service is very slow though and got our bill wrong.
(3)Susan S.
Hadn't been to Pannekoeken in years. Why? Why?!!! Went this morning for brekky and memories of the DELICIOUS pannekoekens of long ago came flooding back. The original, with apples and cinnamon, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side (don't judge!) cannot be beat. Oh, yum. Service was mighty slow, but it was Sunday brunch time and I believe they were understaffed, only saw two servers in the entire place. Will definitely be back.
(4)Elena W.
Yelp said, "You have 3 check ins here.." - I assure you. I have significantly more check in's here than three. Probably somewhere around 100. I grew up about 3 blocks away from Pannekoken Huis and needless to say, this is our place. I can't say we come here for Sunday breakfast very often, because that is the busiest time here, but every other time of the day and week we've been here. We'll start with the classic: Pannekoken. A dutch pancake. It is flour, eggs, milk/water. Plain. Garnished with Lemon and Powdered Sugar. This is why there are numerous toppings offerings in the "sweet" section, and numerous "savory" toppings in the dinner section. So you've been warned: You order a plain pannokoken, you get a plain pannokoken. Personally, Plain is my favorite and I never order anything else. To each their own. Nevermind the rumors of rushing it to your table before it deflates or shouting "Pannekoken!" en route to your table, I haven't seen that sort of fervor from the wait staff in almost 10 years, but truly not since before the Long Lake location closed down. Other offerings include the Split Pea soup with biscuit and raspberry butter, delicious Potato Pancakes with Apple Sauce, and Mettwurst. However, that is a narrow view into their extensive menu. I would take a gander for yourself. :) 4 Stars because I've been coming here so long, I know what to expect. One of the older waitresses is crass and irritable and, quite frankly, has been for years. The decor is out dated and the tables can, yes, be a little sticky. But the coffee is strong, the food is consistent. I don't know what more you'd be looking for with the last remaining Pannokoken in Minnesota.
(4)David A.
Think of this as the Dutch version of Perkins. It's a great place for a cheap easy Sunday morning pancake. Unfortunately that is about it for this restaurant. I must say, I kinda love it when someone orders pannekoeken... The waitress must immediately run out from the kitchen with the hot pancake and yell pannekoeken before the fluffy pancake deflates. This exact same restaurant used to be in Bloomington Minnesota near where Southtown bowling alley is currently. It was excellent, the biscuits were something to rave about, even better than red lobsters biscuits. Even though this establishment has many downfalls and could get much better there's something eclectic and neighborhoody intrinsic to its atmosphere. I wholeheartedly hope this restaurant will get better as it is nice to have the Dutch tradition and cooking close by in St. Louis Park.
(3)Sarah U.
I used to come here when I was kid for a treat, we just ordered with the excitement of hearing the serving yell 'pannekoeken!' my fam and I were feeling nostalgic and wanted tot try it again, no yelling :( and the pancake was just ok, heaving the berries, but not on flavor for the cake.
(2)Kyle A.
If I go to a place for the first time and get fast service, a great meal, and have fun doing it in the atmosphere of the restaurant then it's always five stars. I'll definitely be back to try more things on this menu that made me an indecisive person and I can bet I will get the same great quality service and food that I just did.
(5)Adam B.
I've been driving past for years and never had the opportunity to stop and eat. After eating for the first time I should have stopped in long ago for breakfast. I wanted to put 4.5 stars. We had a Pannekoeken, it was delicious. Also had the "dutch country" omelet and it was 5 stars. Love the rye bread. Coffee was good, service was good. Certainly will return. Thanks to THE HUIS!

Food was just okay. It was your normal pancakes eggs and hash brown place. Extremely dirty inside.

I'd never had Dutch pancakes before and wasn't sure what to expect. The restaurant itself is a little dated and bland, with some old plastic tulips on the tables and a windmill on the menu face the only signs of Dutch-ness. It feels like an IHoP that hasn't been well loved. I ordered the bacon pannekoeken which turns out to be a baked crepe-like batter with bacon pieces mixed in, much resembling a 'meadow muffin', topped with a round of butter. It had a side of apple sauce which I used to top it. It was pretty good with a lot of bacon flavour but the apple sauce didn't do much for it (or itself) and was a little disappointed that something that costs $9 didn't have a side of potatoes or something more substantial. I ended up putting a packet of Smuckers strawberry jam on top to give it a little more appeal. My room mate's bananas foster pannekoeken was much tastier and I regretted not going with that. The coffee was decent, at least.

Poor Pannekoeken. This used to be a hopping local chain with great food. Now there's just a few of these left, and while the food is still good, I fear Pannekoeken is dying a slow, painful death. The server we had a few days ago looked pained to have to serve us. And the interior really needs some help. No, I don't expect every restaurant to look like a Manhattan hotspot, and in fact I don't usually like restaurants like that. But this place badly needs some new carpet, new booths, and a serious deep cleaning! It's more drab and depressing than their pea soup. That said, the pannekoekens really are Amsterdam-quality special, as is the mettwurst sausage. The biscuits come with this addictive raspberry butter. You can get a really tasty breakfast here that's much cheaper than assorted Linden Hills hotspots, without the lines. Back in my younger days, this was the place to go for a late night hang out after a movie or barhopping. If they freshen it up, a new generation may well feel the same way.

When I lived closer, this was a "must stop" place every time I was in Minneapolis, so of course we had to fit it in when we were recently back for a wedding. And it was everything I remembered. The menu is extensive and varied, offering something for everyone. The portions are more than you need, so there are no worries about going hungry. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. During our visit there was a problem where part of my friend's order didn't get into the system so it didn't come out with the other food. Our server immediately apologized and took responsibility, preemptively bringing a complimentary cinnamon roll to the table for him. Talk about service! We will definitely be back next time we're in the area again!

I was so excited to try this place, but only left feeling disappointed. I really haven't felt less welcome at a restaurant ever. The waitress barely greeted us and obviously did not enjoy her job to the point of making me feel uncomfortable. I had a pineapple upside down pannekoeken and didn't enjoy it. It was heavy on the nutmeg or allspice flavor and the pineapple was the saddest pale yellow color I've ever seen. My husband had a berry pannekoeken which was pretty good. However the unwelcoming experience is what is left in our minds and we do not plan on returning.

The waitress was horrible. She had an attitude and we asked questions about menu, she was not helpful at all. When she brought out malt it was dripping over the side and she just set on table with a pool of melted ice cream underneath. Had to ask her to get napkin. Won't return antume soon. Only reason for 2 stars is food is good.

This appears to be the last remaining Pannekoeken in Minneapolis. We were visiting from Nashville and I'd told my family about the yummy Dutch pancakes, so we stopped by on our way out of town. Wait staff was super friendly and helpful - even with two small children. The restaurant is very dated, but we embraced the old-fashion feel and loved the food.

Something strange happened in my cheapskate brain the other day - I was in the mood for going out to breakfast! Being a mover and a shaker - I usually drink a protein shake and 30 cups of coffee and check breakfast off the list. Pannekoeken Huis was the chosen place since I have a fondness for the Dutch (their Dutch boy paint, hansel and gretel, tulips, windmills, clogs, the Dutch oven, and my Dutch uncle). The restaurant itself could use a deep clean - our table was so sticky and the bathroom was trashed (at 8 in the morning - hardly a function of it just being too busy since they just opened). I got the oatmeal - my kids got pancakes and a pannekoeken. The pannekoeken was so good I forgot about the sticky table until he tried to pass me the plate for another bite and it wouldn't move. Coffee was mediocre, oatmeal pretty good, overall a winner. I am still dreaming about that pannekoeken - light and fluffy...fun to say. Yes, I will be back and not for the oatmeal next time. Like they say "if it ain't Dutch, it ain't much".

If you have seen Parks and Recreation, you know that appreciation for breakfast food is serious business. I had never been to the Pannekoeken Huis before today, but I had been planning to stop in to get my breakfast food fix for quite awhile. I can't say anything about the decor that hasn't been said. It was a diner, nothing fancy. I ordered a Mushroom and Cheese Omelet, which came with a side of hashbrowns and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll came out about 15 minutes before our food, seemed as if it had been microwaved for a few seconds to warm it up, and it was so so so dry, it seemed at least three days old. Initially I was thinking it was a bummer it came so early because I would rather finish my meal with something sweet instead of start it. But after tasting it, I wished that I had ordered toast. The Omelet was a pretty standard omelet, and the hashbrowns were good and crispy. My comrade ordered the Fresh Strawberry Pannekoeken and said it was "okay". We had both tried dutch pancakes before at The Original Pancake House and the ones from Pannekoeken Huis were honestly significantly less good. Additionally, they were served with cool whip, instead of actual whipped cream. Everything was pretty alright, but our waitress was super nice. So shout-out to her.

The food is awesome and I love eating here but this place needs a cleaning and badly. It is already outdated with decor which could be "charming" but when you add the amount of ceiling fan dust I looked at while there I just cannot get over it. If you do go for the food ---get yourself a cinnamon roll---a pannekoeken---some crispy hashbrowns---I seriously always enjoy the food. They could use better coffee though

My boyfriend had two friends come visit us this past winter and we were really hungry.. Oh, and hungover! So, we were looking for a cheap diner somewhere, and thought about Perkins for a while! I wanted to impress our guest and, at the same time, wanted to try something new. We looked up this place online, and decided to go with it! OH man... bad Idea. I guess it wasn't the worst food I've ever eaten or anything, but it was pretty bad. Worse than Perkins for sure! Our friends got some kind of waffle, and they both said it was pretty tasty.. I was going to get that, but instead decided I needed eggs, and went with a tomato, cheese, and sausage omelet. It wasn't good. I hate saying that, but it really wasn't. My eggs were wet, I don't think they were fully cooked enough, and the meat was cold. I ate the toast, though! I felt really bad saying anything about it though, since our server was probably the nicest, oldest lady in the world. so I dealt with it. This was the only time I've ever been that passive towards my food like that.. OH my god... what if that is how they make their money? You know, like take a sweet old lady to serve you, then give you crap for food, and you as the customer are suppose to feel bad, so you don't say anything!!! he he.. that would be a damn good scam (although I'm not sure how that would make them any money) that I would love to see some restaurant get popped for on the news!
