Great food! Staff is wonderful and will go out of their way to help out. Tried the Cranberry curry and I am sold. Can't wait to go back and try more food. As other reviewers have mentioned the decor has not been updated. I would also recommend to get the food to go. Portions are generous and very reasonably priced. Great find for Robbinsdale!

Robbinsdale has another winner for good food! Admittedly some may call this place a dive as it is nothing special on the décor and is in an old Mr. Steak building but the owners care about the service and the food and it really shows. The chili sauce is a must to order with the spring rolls! Have had the Pad Thai, Spring Rolls, Thai Basil Stir Fry and the Hot & Spicy Soup. I very much enjoyed every one of these dishes. I can't wait to go back and try more. Being so close they are great for carry out orders. They will prepare the dishes as spicy or as mild as you wish and there are plenty of options for gluten free and choices of vegetarian, or selections of meats to add to the dishes.

This place recently opened up in the old Guanghzou Chinese restaurant site. The place was spotless clean. Service was prompt, attentive and pleasant. I ordered the deep fried spring rolls with pork and their red curry with chicken. The appetizer's were large in size and tasty. Also ordered calamari with jalapeno sauce on the side. The calamari were large, tender and battered just perfect and not overcooked. Both appetizers arrived hot to the table. They offer the standard Thai chile condiments. The red curry was complex and just the right spice kick. The portion was rather large. The restaurant has standard booth seating with a few tables in the corners and one large seating area to accommodate parties of 10 or more. All in all a good dining experience. I will return again.

I've been here a couple times now for takeout. The quality of the food is upper echelon... large portions, moderate to strong spice levels without killing flavor. I feel like this place may not survive if they don't update the inside a little. It's clean, but very outdated. Has the feel of a small town diner. No liquor license yet, maybe that will help. It's too big of a building to just capture the takeout crowd.

Great fresh spring rolls! Pad Thai is ok but the noodle salads are great and I love the curries. The staff are super friendly. Great for dine-in or takeout.

The menu was quite inflexible. We requested that they substitute rice noodles for egg noodles in a dish and they said they were unable to do so. The food tasted fine but seemed greasy and didn't settle well for two of four members of our party (the two dishes were veg pad Thai and Thai fried rice with chicken). The good is that portions are large for the price and easily shareable by two people. Our server was kind and attentive despite the manager's unwillingness to adjust their menu.

We love this place! So thankful to have a tasty thai place in the neighborhood so we don't have to drive all over the place for good thai. Our favorites are the pad thai, the kabocha curry, and the pineapple fried rice. The pad thai is probably up there with the best I've had in the Twin Cities. They've made a couple of substitutions for us and are always so nice when we are there.

Not restaurant quality. Sweet green curry had very little flavor. Will not be going back.

Wonderfully authentic Thai food. Had the sweet green curry and it was fantastic. Everyone at the table loved their dishes. Super fresh ingredients. Service was impeccable and very comfortable atmosphere.

I'm crossing my fingers that this new restaurant in Robbinsdale sticks around! I live on the other side of the lake and it's great having Thai so close! I have been twice now for take out and both times the food was delicious. The spring rolls were huge, and ingredients were fresh. Egg rolls were great. Green Curry, Pad Thai, and they have the Cranberry Curry I usually have to drive to St Louis Park for! I ordered all of these dishes with chicken, and the meat was tender and not dry! Spice levels were perfect and didn't overpower the taste of the food. The owner lady is friendly and very gracious. She is thankful for your business. I will be going back to Mai Thai often and spreading the word. No beer or wine yet. They will try for that in the New Year, and that's ok. I usually get take out , and I have wine at home.

Ordered take out. Spring rolls were great, the peanut sauce was a little different. I'm used to a thicker peanut sauce and this was oil with crushed peanuts in it. I wouldn't recommend the cream cheese wontons unless you like the taste of fried glue. I don't think I will give this place another go.

Mai Thai is a great new go-to for us! We have tried a number of items on the menu and have loved all but the pad Thai (standard Thai fare, but theirs is, for some reason, very plain and bland). Great curries, great rice and noodle dishes. Awesome appetizers (we LOVE the spring and fried pork rolls, and the cheese wontons), Incredibly friendly staff, reasonable prices. One time the shrimp was ever so slightly overlooked, but I'm not sure if that was because it was actually overlooked, or because is ordered it 40 minutes earlier and picked it up a bit late. Either way, it's a great place for standard Thai food. Not top of the line, but great for quick neighborhood take out!

Affordable and delicious. I highly recommend the green curry and massaman curry, as well as the fried spring rolls. Their dishes are very flavorful, veggies are always fresh. My daughter loves the pineapple fried rice. I hope Mai Thai is around for a long time!

Fantastic food, tea, & service. The owner even came to our table with a nice plate if perfectly ripened watermelon!

Had a wonderful meal here a few weeks ago. Service was snappy, the Thai curry steam dumplings were great and the sprring rolls were top notch, and at a great price. Great choice for solid Thai food in the Crystal and Robbinsdale area! Also seems like a family owned business, which I'm all about!

This place has never let us down. The owner cares about her customers. She comes out and talks to everyone and makes sure you are happy. The food is incredible! Get the shakin beef or cranberry curry!

This review is for take out only. Be warned, it is tricky to get to!! You can see it on the frontage road but cannot access it. You need to go behind on France. Anyhow, we've been waiting for awhile to try this place since it is so close to home but wanted to give them time to work out any possible 'kinks'. Overall it was good. Not my personal favorite, but good quality ingredients. The food - We ordered: Fresh (shrimp) Spring Rolls, Pork Fried Spring Rolls, Jalapeno Cream Cheese Fried Wontons and Chicken Pad Thai. The fresh spring rolls were okay at best. They are huge, but very bland, probably due to the lack of mint or cilantro which is what I'm used to. My personal preference is to have pork/shrimp combo and that choice wasn't listed so I asked if I could have pork/shrimp and was told yes. Upon inspection, there was very little shrimp (tucked in the middle and very tiny) and no pork whatsoever. There were, however, lots of noodles with a smattering of iceberg and carrot. Just bland. However, being a huge fan of spring rolls, I ate it all anyways. The sauce was pretty typical and tasty with lots of crushed peanuts. Next up was the fried pork spring roll. BF was very pleased with these and they were very good but again, not my favorite. To me they tasted like cross between a Chinese egg roll and a Thai spring roll. I guess I just prefer the thinner spring roll wrappers, and these were more like egg roll wrappers. The filling, however, was filled with a decent amount of pork, mushrooms and glass noodles and was very flavorful. These were served with the standard Thai spring roll dipping sauce. On to the jalapeno cream cheese wontons... these turned out to be the highlight of the meal!! They were pretty darn tasty! I don't typically order wontons from Thai joints but BF loves them and I'm glad we did. The ratio of spicy cream cheese to perfectly fried and golden wonton wrapper was spot on. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was more than awesome. Definitely a step up from the usual sweet and sour, it had almost a savory aspect to it. (because of that I will without a doubt come back for a sweet and sour dish as I love the fact that it is served with pineapple, tomatoes, carrots and onions). On to the Pad Thai. The only truly disappointing part of the whole meal. I did order it medium-hot and it delivered that perfectly. We both had a mild sweat going by the end of the meal. That was the only thing I really enjoyed about the dish. The noodles were a bit thinner than I'm used to but that's not a big deal if cooked properly. The house made sauce was much MUCH sweeter than usual even though I expected it after reading the reviews online. No smoky wok char flavor either. Without the heat added I don't think I could've eaten it without chili oil or Siracha. On top of that, the chicken was very VERY dry and very sparse as well. After reading all the positive reviews about the Satay and other chicken dishes, I was severely let down. In addition, the amount of egg was almost non-existent and there were NO bean sprouts! Just crushed peanuts and green onions. Maybe it was an off night (Sunday 6pm) but Pad Thai is pretty standard fare and I tend to try that first at a new Thai restaurant so I don't know if we'll be racing back that soon. As for the value, it's pretty average for this neck of the woods and the portions are generous. Oh, and in case you are looking for an online menu, Urban Spoon has a viewable version. The service was courteous and was ready in 15 minutes as promised. The ambiance looked clean and fresh, although almost empty at the dinner hour. We will return for a Thai fix when we don't want to drive more than 2 miles but it won't be a favorite if any of the other dishes follow suit of the Pad Thai.

Great service, fresh ingredients and delicious food! Fresh spring rolls were fantastic! Both entrees we had were cooked perfectly. Huge portions...splitting an entree is the way to go!
(4)Brooke G.
I'm so happy this restaurant is so close to us!! We love the red curry and the cranberry curry!! Not to mention the cream cheese jalapeño wontons are amazing!! If you haven't tried this place, you should! I hope they stay around for a very long time!!

Excellent flavors! Calm atmosphere. I had chicken fried rice. I hear also that they have great curry dishes. Maybe I'll try that next time.
(5)Keith K.
The waitresses treat you like family. Very Grand-ma like. They will help you choose what is best. The beef stir fry is amazing steak, and you will be tempted to order a plate to go just to get more of it. Their location is tucked away and you will drive past another Asian place to get to it, so their throughput of customers is lower and they go to great lengths to ensure a great experience. Eat here. :-)

We love curry, so we decided to try Mai Thai since it is so close to our house. We were not disappointed. We ordered the Sweet Green Curry, Chicken Pad Thai, and Sriracha Fried Rice with beef for take out. All the dishes were flavorful and spiced just right. Delicious and satisfying on a cold night. The amount was generous as well...plenty for left overs. We'll be back to try all the other dishes.

Took out of town guests for dinner on a Friday eve. Seated ourselves amongst only a few other visitors. I typically order takeout 2-3 x per month. Fresh spring rolls huge. A small beer selection and friendly, attentive service. Excellent sweet green curry. Pad Thai also very good. If you are looking for ambiance go else where. If looking for authentic very good SE Asian flavor, try this place. You will likely want to return. Closed on Tuesday. Open for lunch.

Horrible pad Thai!!! Not pad Thai noodles, and vinegar heavy. No meat to speak of, for beef pad Thai. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I have tried this restaurant out because it's very close to my house but it's just not worth the price. I've done take out orders several times and every time it has been incorrect. I am actually surprised it is still open/in business. Their fresh spring rolls are bland with too much lettuce. I haven't had any entrées but have had the Laab salad and it is definitely not worth $12. Tasteless and I asked for it to be 5/5 spicy a fit was about a 1.5. If you're looking for actual spicy Thai food, Royal Orchid in Columbia Heights is the place. It's also cheaper than Mai Thai.

Way too expensive for Thai food. I've had way cheaper in Midtown NYC. Quality is decent, but doesn't merit the price tag, not even close.

Pretty awful. Knew something not right when saw unkempt bldg, parking lot deserted at 1 pm Sunday and music was Hispanic! Waiter claimed all food prepared fresh, but chicken clearly had been cooked earlier. Booth seat hard and crooked and wobbly. Still prices high. Only 3 parties walked in the 3.5 hours I was there. My own fault for not listening to my gut feeling and ignoring typical signs of restaurant on its way to bankruptcy.

Delicious food (egg noodles with chicken, veggies and spice!, perfectly crispy chicken wings with jalapeño "salsa," and a delightful mock duck curry), and a kind and caring staff. The owners of the store obviously love their work and their workers. They handled a very rude customer who was heckling over her bill with kindness and grace, although she obviously shook them. Support a local restaurant with delicious food and good-hearted, hard working owners and employees--what's not to love?!

If you've ever had really good Thai, and there are several in the twin cities, this won't cut it. American broccoli instead of kai-lan in their pad see ew? No Thai eggplant in green curry? The f***? The food seemed very Americanized and was all Minnesota bland. Asked for 5/5 spicy, not even a little heat. Common. We go to these places for the flavors and spices. We were the only table in the restaurant at lunch and it took about 15 minutes before we could even place our order. Maybe it's rated well because of the view, because it certainly can't be the food. Do yourself a favor and pass.

This is the first and last time I will ever be seen at this resturant. Food was a huge disappointment. I ordered the chicken curry, the menu did not tell me this was a noodle dish neither did the waitress. I ordered it spicey but got sweet with no taste of salt. I was suprise when I scooped the curry and there was a bunch of noodles underneath. I only took one bite and did not eat it. My friend ordered the fried rice. It was tasteless as well. We left after that. We did not finish either dish nor want to pack it to go. Worse food ever. I will never go back there.

I have given this place several tries since it opened, and they have just never pulled it off. It had been quite some time since my last visit, and I got the bug to see if anything had improved, so I dragged the girlfriend in for one more attempt last week. I could excuse the awful interior and seating leftover from the locations Mr. Steak days loooong ago, if the food was stellar, but this is not the case. The place still retains a slight musty, former smoking restaurant funk to the air that is seemingly ineradicable. The booths are rock hard and at weird angles(in relation to human posture) in places, possibly due to the sunken and wavy nature of the floor itself. The building and interior have clearly seen much better days. Very uncomfortable seating, and odd odors are never appealing to me at a restaurant. Even the menus were dirty and in need of a good clean, not to mention they have zero effort put into layout and design. That said, I will forgive those sorts of things if the food is excellent. However, I have found the overall quality of the food to be disappointing. Especially for the prices! Perhaps they are trying to save up for a remodel or some new seating, but I felt everything was a bit high given the quality of the surroundings, ingredients, and preparation. There may be a gem or two on the menu, but after trying a half dozen of what are my usual favorite benchmark dishes, I am done here! Pad thai, laab salad, rice noodle salad with curried beef, cranberry curry, sri racha stir fry, were some items I have tried. My meals there have been greasy, and under seasoned in both flavor and heat. To me, covering a dish with dry red pepper flakes as a way to increase heat is a cop out. Add some fresh chopped Thai chili peppers please! Meats have been gristly, and vegetables(very Americanized veggies BTW) simply go limp after being so saturated in oil. No fresh, crisp stir fry experience here. I will say both the fried veggie, and fresh spring rolls were decent, but again, just a pinch expensive for what you get. Service was fine when I was there. Not exceptional, not dismal. Sorry Mai Thai. I wanted to like you, but there are too many better choices.

I really hoped this spot would be great since it's so close by, but it just wasn't. The food was bland and was served to me complete with fruit flies. The staff was friendly, but the meal was a big miss.

Stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try based on other reviews. Glad we did! Now I'm wishing we lived closer for take out! The fresh spring rolls were huge! Fresh ingredients and love the touch of mint used. For our meal, we had Thai basil and massaman curry. Would highly recommend both dishes. So very tasty! Reasonably priced too. Only beer and Smirnoff drinks are currently served. When I asked if they had wine, waitress said "not yet" so may be available at some point in the future. Restaurant itself is nothing special, but food is good!

Feeling very fortunate to have this place so close to home. We ordered a little bit of everything between 7 if us and I wasn't disappointed with anything I tried. We started with fried spring rolls which are as good as I've ever had. I don't say that lightly. They were rolled tight and fried to perfection. I don't see how I could ever go back and not get these every time. We also ordered calamari and although it was only rings and not tentacles it was fried delicately and the accompanying sauce was the perfect complement. I should add that the menus explains that it is only rings so I didn't feel slighted or anything. I ordered kabocha with beef and it was amazing. Everything was in its right place and the broth part of the entree was very complex. I would order it spicier next time but even so it still had a nice bite. We also had chicken pad thai which was a highlight. The flavor was very subtle and not overdone like it's very easy to do with pad thai. After our meal the owner brought us over a complimentary dessert. It was a rice pudding with fried bananas. Not a huge dessert person but this had my attention for sure. The service was great. Our server was very attentive and efficient. Can't say anything negative about the entire experience.
(5)Heather S.
Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. She explained the way they made their peanut sauce from rice porridge to accommodate gluten free guests. Excellent fresh spring rolls and would definitely recommend the spicy wide noodles with your choice of protein. Hot and sour soup was well balanced with the right amount of sour to savory. We would definitely recommend this place!
