Worst Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered chicken and mixed vegetable. I got under cooked chicken and cabbage with about 3 slices of carrot.

Just moved to the neighborhood and took a chance on this place despite the terrible reviews. I'm a Chinese American who enjoys shitty Chinese takeout for what it is, and this place was a solid 3 stars - nothing amazing, but nothing to really complain about either. I've had much, much worse. We ordered the kung pow chicken, pepper beef with onion, and hot and sour soup. Nothing was bland, nor was it was way too salty like some Chinese takeout food is. Only legit complaint was old tasting peanuts on the chicken. Took 30 mins to get here on a Sunday night at 8 pm. I wouldn't order from this place again unless nothing else was open simply because there are other options that taste better, but their food isn't bad and in a pinch it will do.

GROSS. Came here on a whim after the intended destination was closed. Coworker and I both ordered and sat down. Another couple of people came in about 10 minutes after us, ordered and sat down. They delivered them their food before ours which was weird. Turns out it was OUR food. After it sat there for 5 minutes and the girl took a bite out of my rice, the lady that works there realized the mistake and grabbed to food and set it down in front of me. It was already getting cold, but she insisted that the food had not been eaten (all the while, the girl is yelling "I TOOK A BITE.") Finally another lady took the food back into the kitchen. 5 minutes later, brings plates back with strangely cool food considering it just came out. Totally the same food. No apology, no offer to discount. Nothing. JUST GROSS!!!

I've never had JY deliver, so I don't have any comments on that aspect of the biz. I have dined in and gotten takeout from JY for several years. It fits in to the basic Americanized Chinese food that has been around since the 70's category. If you want high end you will need to go to Little Szechuan or Tea House in the area. JY makes decent Chinese food at a very reasonable price. Their lunch specials are a steal with an entree plus steamed or fried rice for under six bucks. If you want steamed rice you have to tell them that when you order as they usually serve it up with the fried rice. My impression from the last time that I grabbed lunch there is that they are not making the dishes with as much sauce, and thankfully what sauce there was did not have the consistancy of glue (one of my pet peeves with Chinese food is too much sauce and having the sauce super thick). I had the kung pao chicken and it had a nice amount of heat to it, which was appreciated. The kung pao included a ton of veggies which was also appreciated. Egg rolls are nothing to write home about but aren't a greasy mess either. JY is decent Chinese food at a very reasonable price.

Very small restaurant with a few dining tables. I was the only one there at around 2 pm. I ordered the Hunan Chicken from the lunch special menu. The special only included fried rice. No egg roll or soup. I suggest calling in advance for your order just to avoid smelling like an egg roll when you leave and it was about a 10 minute wait. The fried rice was very bland and the hunan chicken was swimming in sauce. The staff was friendly and the lunch specials are cheap but its not enough for a second visit.

We ordered delivery at 8:00 pm and it is almost 9:20 and still waiting for dinner. It's almost time for bed! I was told over 1/2 hour ago that 1st driver's car broke down and it would be 2 to 3 minutes. I called a few minutes ago and got same story about driver and it would now be 10 - 15 more minutes. I said we are no longer hungry and someone should have called us when car broke down and we would have cancelled then, and the person I'm talking to is interrupting me and talking over me and saying my food is coming! So, it is 9:25 and our food is here that we no longer wanted. Delivery guy is very sweet but going on about the driver that got stuck and I am telling him we don't care, it isn't our problem, and now you are still taking our money for food we told you to cancel!! Like "highway robbery", terrible business and last time we ever order from here!! As I feel we should update after eating some of the food, the egg roll was under-cooked and tasteless, shrimp toast okay on inside but thick greasy ouTside layer that literally dripped out when picking it up ..... General Tso's Chicken was doughy with bland sauce and not crispy as I have had before. House Lo Mein was actually pretty tasty, perfect noodles, and nice shrimp, but only a few pieces of vegetable - needed more. Unfortunately, at almost 10:00 pm, being tired and put-off from the appetizers, we gave in to retiring for the evening. Note to self, skip delivery and take the short drive for take out at "Delicious Chow Mein" Chinese restaurant on Douglas Drive in Crystal - it is the best place around!!

I feel terrible that I just had the experience I did, because I understand that this is a family owned restaurant but oh my goodness, I can't ever fathom being punished to order food from this establishment again. It is early Sunday afternoon. I really wanted Yangtze "big" shrimp lo mein, however Yangtze does not deliver, so I decided to settle for the only chinese delivery in my area. BIG MISTAKE. Because we were unfamiliar with this place we stuck with the basics of Chinese: hot & sour soup, sweet & sour chicken, and of course their shrimp lo mein. Let me say that we made the mistake of not specifying sizes of our orders, but since she didn't ask, we assumed that everything was one size. Well she just ended up sending their largest size presumably making more money. If you don't listen to my review and end up ordering from here, you will notice that they fill everything extremely high and staple it to appear as you are getting a LOT for your money. You are not. We have a liter of hot & sour soup, no taste except for a some vinegar and half and egg throughout. The sweet & sour chicken is so pathetic; it's teeny tiny pieces of chicken that have been rolled into a dough to make it seem like the chicken is bigger than it actually is, and then dipped into a crispy batter. The shrimp lo mein?? Oh my lanta, listen to this....so I noticed right away that none of the shrimp seemed to be deveined, so I put it all aside. Then I found one that wasn't, decided to try it and umm it looked like a little shrimp but it tasted like it had been preserved in a chemical! Obviously not fresh! The noodles were whatever but they were edible. So I stuck with the lo mein noodles, until CRUNCH came out a shrimp shell. "Okay...gross" but it can happen, I told myself. I kid you not, one more bite and CRUNCH, out of my mouth came a piece of metal that resembled a long staple but more pliable. Unbelievable. I wasn't going to directly complain but I literally just threw everything away. I have never called a restaurant to complain about their food, but I just had to. Who is enjoying this?? When I told them that the food was awful and that it is extremely obvious that they take shortcuts, they asked why. I told them about the shrimp lo mein and they were nice about it and said that they would give me back the credit on my card for it and give me free shrimp lo mein next time and that was the end of the call. Don't you want to know how bad the rest of your food was? I'm not some hoodlum scamming for free food. If someone else wants my lo mein credit, it's all yours. On the bright side, I don't have to worry about being hungry because I lost my appetite.

Let's set the scene: It is 11:45 AM. You are sitting at your desk staring a 19" flat screen monitor in the face that contains a few spreadsheets and your stomach starts rumbling. You think to yourself, "Hmm, I work in Golden Valley but I hate the idea of eating processed cheese and factory formed meat patties." Alas, you find the take-out menu from Ju Yuan sitting next to the inbox on your desk (right next to the "paperweight of broken dreams" and a pencil holder full of thoughts of "what if I had taken that creative writing course instead of becoming a typist intern?") and decide to give this local Chinese joint a try. The lunch menu is large but standard; all of the regular Chinese take-out dishes are represented. I've personally had four or five of the normal dishes (hot and spicy beef, chicken w. broccoli, sesame chicken, etc...) and they have all been excellent. For around $5 you get a portion of main dish served with pork fried rice that has a hint of smokiness in it that is absolutely enjoyable. The portion sizes are typically Chinese-restaurant-gargantuan and would qualify as a good sized meal even for the obese (although probably not for the morbidly obese) as even my hefty frame slices the serving in twain to save for the following day's lunch. While the service is fast, calling ahead is recommended since the dining/waiting area is very small and carries with it the stench of hot peanut oil and unfound promises of the American dream. The folks that work here are very nice, indeed, they always get 5 stars for service. There is a horrible little barber shop next door that will make your hair look worse than Phil Spector...skip the barber shop and pick up the pepper steak instead. Free delivery on orders over $15.00.

Decent food ....best deal is the dinner combo...a lot of food on the dinner combo in the to go container.....easily enough for two people. We ordered snow peas w/ roast pork ..came with fried rice and egg roll. The other combo dish was sweet and sour chicken w/ fried rice and egg roll...they kept the sauce separate from the fried chicken which allowed it to stay crispy.

This is the worst Chinese I've had in the TC. The fried rice is super dark and looks too gross to taste good. The meat in the Kung Pao Chicken is battered and deep fried first, which is NOT how Kung Pao chicken is supposed to be! It might be a little cheaper than some places in town but it's still not worth it. Pay a little more and eat healthier better tasting Chinese elsewhere!

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
