Love it.

Bryn Mawr's premiere coffee shop, Cuppa Java offers up coffee, tea, sandwiches, and salads alongside beer and wine. Their free wireless also makes for a great place to get some work done. The service is friendly and the clientele, like most any coffee shop, consists primarily of neighborhood denizens. Unfortunately, you can't bring your dog in here. Ask for a sandwich with "everything" and they'll hook you up with sprouts and avo, but don't tell anyone I told you!!

I've many a coffee shop that i like to frequent but none that make you feel like you're a valued customer, part of the family and a true desire to make your visit means a lot to them. Cuppa java is a great coffee shop/eartery in north mninneapolis in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood. Prices on food and drink are low, portions are large and quality is at high. Food is always made to order and brought out promptly. Try the Reuben-It's the best around

I used to work down the street from Cuppa, and since moving I definitely miss it! Love the rueben, the cubano, their standard grilled cheese, the breakfast bagel... really most everything. Everything is super reasonably priced. I always thought of Cuppa Java like a café with real restaurant food at café prices. A lot of places would sell pre-made sandwiches at the price that Cuppa sells made-for-you sandwiches. And the cake. Don't miss the cake. I've also only had great service here, and contrary to some reviews I have found their dishes to be super consistent and they've never been prepared for me in different ways, regardless of whether I ate there or took it to go.

Cute as can be cafe in quaint Bryn Mawr (a neighborhood I admittedly just discovered after living within a few mile radius for the past year). Plenty of bistro tables along the perimeter for soaking up some sun, while the inside seems cozy and work-friendly. The sandwiches seem to outshine the coffee-component of the cafe here. I tremendously enjoyed the veggie hummus sandwich (fresh crunchy cucumbers, red peppers, purple onions, tomatoes, sprouts, swiss cheese, and hummus on soft grainy bread). The buffalo chicken sandwich was also good, but a little heavier than I prefer (too much chicken and cheese!). Both sandwiches contained fresh, high quality ingredients on super soft bread. The service at the counter did seem a little "off"... not very cheery nor seeming too pleased to answer questions about the menu for first-timers. However, the server that delivered our sandwiches was polite and pleasant. I am happy to overlook the counter service this time, but may downgrade if it was a consistent trend.

I live just outside of Bryn Mawr, and I pass this place on my way to work every day. After quitting my second job, I've finally had some free time to do things like sit in coffee shops writing yelp reviews on my MacBook. So far, so good, Cuppa Java. A nice, small place with a pretty big variety of food, plus the normal coffee shop fare (baked goods, coffee). I've only gotten coffee here, but it is smooth and tasty. The staff has been friendly, and on a normal afternoon it's pretty quiet. I'll probably end up here a few times a week, now. It's fun and friendly.

I hadn't realized that they offered sandwiches until I was looking at some of the reviews of local coffee shops. The Cubano is exquisite, and if it is that good then I'm going to have to come back and try their Reuben. My large skinny almond latte was perfectly prepared; nice soft mouthfeel, just a dollop of foam, hot without being scalding, although a bit lacking on the latte art. Too bad they don't serve in a mug. The cafe has a corner entrance and is shaped like a triangle. Seating isn't overly comfortable, but there is sufficient room to work. If you want a bit of privacy then there is a small table and two comfy chairs in the back apex of the triangle.

Best soy Chai Tea latte in MPLS!!!! Downfall: The staff could smile more- they always look so hipster & serious. If you stay in the cafe for more than 10min, you will leave smelling like the kitchen. They could fix this problem by closing the kitchen doors & better ventilation! Overall: I only go for the soy chai!

I have worked 1 mile away from Cuppa Java for the last year and this place is by far one of my favorite spots to eat and/or have coffee. Sure sometimes during the lunch rush it gets busy and there is a slight wait for your sandwich. But they make it how you want it and it tastes amazing every time. I either get the Grilled Ham & Cheese (add jalapenos, onions, bacon and avocado) or the BLT (add ham, jalapenos, onions, bacon and avocado) ... My coworkers call them the Oby 1 and Oby dos, I hope they could one day make these signature sandwiches. :) Go there. It's awesome.

This place reminds me so much of Caffe Apropos in Columbus: it even smells the same! You have your OK espresso, hot/cold sandwiches, (bottled) beer and wine, and a chill environment to hang out. It's similarly a bit out of the way and has a little bar area where you saddle up and enjoy a Stella or some wine (5-7 happy hour) and/or lounge about on your laptop. And there are likewise huge pieces of cake: I'm glad I was planning on staying there for a while after getting a huge chunk of German chocolate cake. It's definitely worth a little detour off the Cedar Lake Trail to Bryn Mawr's tiny business district.

I have been going here for years. It's one of my favorite cafes. Good variety and prices. I wish they had a bigger space but the people that work here are always generous and provide fast service. Highly recommend.

I visited Cuppa Java for the first time yesterday on the recommendation of a relative. WOW...I am glad I finally did. What a cozy spot, and the server was wonderful. They really treat you well. I ordered a BLT! I have had a craving for one and needed that craving satisfied! The bacon was a bit skimpy. I didn't count the slices but it couldnt have been more than 2 and it was very thin. I probably wouldn't order it again for this reason, but it was still delicious. The chocolate chip cookies had just come out of the oven as I approached the counter so I ordered one. This is the one time where I actually had dessert before lunch! I couldn't resist the warm, oozy chocolate chips. No regrets! Definitely my new go to place for a quick sandwich!

THE absolute best place to get a Rachel or Reuben in this city. I personally like the Rachel more, but both exceed anything else I have tried in the Twin Cities. Go here - that is all.
(5)Jessica N.
This is one gem that makes me miss Bryn Mawr quite a bit, so I still often go out of my way to to go there. The coffee is fantastic, the people that work there are always incredibly nice, the prices are extremely reasonable and the atmosphere is just calming. It is hands down one of my favorite places to go read. The food is also quite good. They make one of my favorite BLTs in town. There is nothing really special about it, but it is consistently delicious. My only qualms about the menu is that I wish there were more breakfast type options. There is an egg and bagel sandwich, but that is about it. This is a great location to meet up with a friend, go alone to read/use your laptop or even bring your kids. I don't have kids of my own but I consistently see people bring their kids in there and they seem to enjoy themselves. I think. I don't know much about children. But, I digress...

I don't like coffee. Or rather, I like to smell coffee but I won't and don't drink it unless it's loaded up with sugar, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg and whatever else so technically it isn't coffee anymore, at least according to my mom and dad, and unfortunately that's one of those deeply rooted parental judgments I haven't figured out how to outgrow yet. So to solve it, I just don't drink "coffee." Despite the noticeable lack of coffee in my life, I still enjoy coffee shops. I love sipping hot chocolate in coffee shops. And a cup of scorching black tea in the winter is maybe the best thing ever. And the bakery displays are always fun to ogle, even if I'm able to talk myself out of ordering something. So anyway, I've only been here once. But I would definitely return because: --the street parking is so close to the front door it's better than a parking lot --that cinnamon pumpkin muffin hit the spot --their sandwich menu was calling my name so next time I plan to arrive hungry! --they serve wine here and someday I won't be pregnant anymore and there's nothing better than sipping wine and chatting with a friend
(4)Joshua W.
Very courteous staff, we were there until almost close sharing a bottle of wine, and the barista asked us if we wanted free cake since they would have to throw it out anyways, we accepted and the chocolate cake was amazing! Definitely will come here again.
(4)Joshua H.
Hands down the best coffee shop in Minneapolis. The staff are fantastic and the coffee is much the same. They also have very good breakfast and lunch options. If you go, be sure to try the curry chicken sandwich - its absolutely amazing.
(5)Dan B.
This has been my home base since moving back to the cities a couple years ago. They offer a nice variety of food and drinks, their coffee is well brewed and the atmosphere is great. Cuppa Java is also a great player in the local community, hosting events, art openings, and caucus prep meetings. While there is limited space in the winter months, the flow in and out is constant and it's not very long to find a table if there isn't one available right at the moment. I noticed another yelper mention the chai tea being powdered, which it is. I think this is a real "you like it or you don't" type thing, because I'm a big iced chai drinker and I really prefer the way that it's made with the powder to the pre boxed mixes that a lot of places use. Try it for yourself, and if not, there are a ton of other great options! The staff is friendly and it's always great to go in for a visit. see you there!

If I am in Bryn Mawr, I like to stop at Cuppa Java. It's in the heart of Bryn Mawr and has my favorite attributes in a coffee shop: -interesting personality -homemade food -good ice tea -Sweet & Low -cleanliness I've had their sandwiches, which aren't fancy but a good quality, substantial, homemade and consistently good. Yesterday I had a Chicken Caesar Wrap after a long day and it was quite good. Plus it comes with some carrot sticks, not gross chips like most places. I like that. The staff there is always friendly, attentive and the kind of people you might like to have a conversation with. They are not stiff and standoffish. Which explains why, everytime I go there, a wide variety of people are hanging out there, seemingly at perfect ease, in the cuteness that is Bryn Mawr. I can't help but believe that Cuppa Java is one of the reasons Bryn Mawr is such a strong neighborhood. When a local business can become the heart of an area, it's role becomes vital to the community's health and prosperity and Cuppa Java plays that role with confidence and humility. And that's a great local coffee shop.

My friend lives on the block diagonal to Cuppa Java but it took a few times in the neighborhood and a blazingly hot afternoon to prompt a stop for an iced coffee while help move some things at the house. The place was pretty cool; a guy and a lady behind the counter were nice, it was clean, the decor is friendly, seemed all-around comfortable to those at tables. People were conversing, reading, and even watching a tv set in the corner. They also have a sidewalk patio (sort of hard to distinguish in the photo) that runs up each sidewalk. I got a turkey sandwich (mayo swapped out for butter) also, on recommendation from my friend who is a regular to Cuppa's menu. I had my food to go. I'll definitely return.
(4)Jess R.
I drive...bike...scooter out of my way to stop at Cuppa Java. They make a great Latte, but it goes beyond that. I am officially addicted to the Pepperjack grilled cheese with Tomato I get there, with a pickle spear on the side :) whoo hoo. I have luckily been too full after eating my sandwich to go back to the dessert case, because it all looks too good and I have no self control around chocolate. What I like the most about Cuppa Java, is that I don't break the bank when I stop there. Which means, I can stop there more often. I can get my coffee and sandwich/pickle/chips and it is pretty much the same as if I got a coffee and scone at any other shop - go figure. The staff is friendly enough, they offer a smile. Seating is good, haven't tried working there yet so don't know if the constant traffic would be a pro/con.
(5)Scott J.
Independent coffee shop, great location, French Roast ALWAYS available, and some cool magnets for sale!
(5)Millie E.
IN my recent visit here I tried the Grilled Hawaiian sandwich and their lemonade. Both were delicious. Since I moved from the North side I haven't frequented here as much- but will start coming back more now. The staff was really friendly and the food was made fresh to order. Planning a girls night to try the wine menu sometime soon.
(4)Nick C.
I would have given this a 5.5 a year and a half ago, but when i lived in the Harrison neighborhood I ate these sammiches sometimes three times a week. They are excellent, but I need about a six month break.
(4)Shay T.
I've been coming in here at least a couple times a week since I moved here a couple of months ago, and it still doesn't feel like they recognize me, which I kind of appreciate, frankly. It makes me feel like I can go out looking like crap and not worry about it. (Of course, maybe if I looked nicer, they would remember.) Anyway, they make the fastest latte of anyone in the Bryn Mawr/St. Louis Park/Kenwood area (they even beat Starbucks), and it's not a bad latte. Perhaps they move so quickly and effiently they don't have time to recognize you. I'm also a sucker for the fact that they have only sesame bagels and they always toast them for you. It's just nice. I tried a curry chicken wrap today, and it was surprisingly good. I do wish they'd invest in a better sandwich menu and maybe a sandwich press -- it's a little lacking as a restaurant, and i feel like it holds a lot of unfulfilled potential that way (particularly since Bryn Mawr doesn't have much else!). FYI: They also serve wine and beer, so it goes beyond Cuppa Java to Cuppa Alcohol, which is good to know if you're in the neighborhood later in the day.
(4)Heather D.
I am a sucker for a fine cup of coffee, and this is the joint. The staff even add a little smile for my order. Mmm. Tasty coffee. I also ave enjoyed their salads and rubens, which are stellar. The big windows make staying a while quite tempting.
(5)Nate M.
I don't even like coffee. But I likes smoothies and grilled ham and cheese and tuna sandwiches with potato chips on them! The greatest thing about Cuppa Java is that it satisfies almost every need of mine - breakfast, lunch, dinner, beer, wine, juice, TV, internet, a place to sit, and there's a bathroom! If I didn't have a job or a life I could live there. It's really laid back and it feels like it is a real neighborhood joint where people just stop in to hang out and everyone knows everyone. Except me. But I just moved over here, so I don't feel bad. They'll learn... oh yes...
(4)Dee C.
unbelievable Carrot Cake and Cheese Cake.. best I have ever had......
(4)JeongEun K.
I work in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood and I often stop by here for my morning coffee or lunch. The coffee and food aren't the greatest, but I like to support local businesses and it has a wonderful atmosphere and a friendly staff. It has a comfortable neighborhood feel and it's always crammed full of people from tots to brooding emos to business professionals to bored retirees. I personally wouldn't go here to study, but it's a perfect place for a casual meeting or lunch.
(4)Grace C.
I love living walking distance from Cuppa Java (+) LOVE their food Amazing beverage selection The owner is a great guy Happy hour is awesome & CHEAP! (-) Half of the staff their are total hipster assholes, the other half are awesome. The dishes are inconsistent and never prepared the same way.
(4)Chris W.
I have been going to this establishment regularly, for about 2 years! The food is great and the service is exceptional. What's most important, is that they are consistent.
(5)John W.
Exquisite little place, with great menu -- including beer, sandwiches and ice cream. Location and environment are quaint as can be. Dogs allowed outside.
(5)Cindy D.
Usually I don't like to talk about my favorite spot cause then people would start going there regularly :( lol...The place is located in Bryn Mawr, it is a very cute and quiet area. The space inside is perfect. There is a flat screen tv for people to watch at the bar. There is about 12 small tables for people to do work/school related stuff. Half of this place is bright with big windows and the other half is dark toward the back area. There is a tiny room in the back where you could have intimate talk. It's a little escape from the crowd. I would see people bringing their family here and pets, too. During the summer time you could sit outside and enjoy a nice fresh air. I almost forgot to mention about their music, old school...love it! The crowd here is 25 years and older...I think :) I enjoy their Asian Salad a lot. Big portion. They have a good selection of sandwiches with reasonably priced. They serve beer and wine, too. And make sure to check out their happy hour time for drinks. Usually I come here to get their Chai Soy. I think this place have the BEST Iced Chai Soy in the twin cities. Yes, I am addicted! Definitely way better than Kopplin in St Paul. Also, I love, love, love their Pistachio Muffin! Oh my unbelievably good! Please try them. The staff is ah-mah-zing! They are unique. I think they know me by now cause I always get the same order :) If you need cash, there is an atm machine. Also, they sell hallmark/greeting cards next to the machine. This neighborhood is very unique and that's why I love it! Make sure to check out Trappings (men's clothing-1926's style) after you make a stop at Cuppa Java :) Street parking
(5)Mitchell R.
I ordered their corned beef sandwich with a side of soup. My sandwich was very large for the price of less than $7 and the Italian sausage tortellini side soup was only $2.50. Both tasted excellent. Their bread was wonderful! I will definitely have to go back to try a baked good and one of their beverages. I would give this place a 5 out of 5, but I did not try any of their beverages or baked goods so it is still kind of hard to give them that perfect score. I have no complaints about this place the food and service were definitely what I look for when I go out for lunch.
(4)Ross C.
This place was an adorable cafe a short drive outside of downtown Minneapolis. My friend highly recommended going, and I'm glad he did. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather and conversation as we waited for our food. Some would maybe say that wait for food was too long, but I don't mind. Good was delicious! We had a Reuben and a Rachel that we shared. They were both filling and delicious.
(4)Ryan L.
I literally could not hate this place more. These reviews, claiming delicious coffee and courteous staff; we must not've frequented the same establishment. I've lived in the neighborhood for six years. I go here only because of proximity, and then only as a last resort. Now that Sparks is open, I need never return. So this isn't based on a single bad experience; this is based on bad experiences every time I (or my girlfriend) have walked through the door. The bottom line: the staff is horrendous. HORRENDOUS. I cannot emphasize this enough. The signature attitude on display by every sad-sack crab-apple who works here is one of being massively inconvenienced by your very presence. "Sigh, if I MUST tell you the bottled beers we have, I guess I will. And now that you've interrupted me with the gall to actually order one, I am now forced to ask for your ID, which is the absolute worst thing that has happened to me all day. God forbid you order food, because then I'll have to go make it, slowly, and badly." This is what it's like, without fail. Besides that, the coffee sucks, the food is mediocre, and the layout is incomprehensible. An insurance fire would be a gift to the neighborhood, to provide hope that something remotely decent would replace this hellhole.

My wife and I have been coming to Cuppa Java every week since we married 18 months ago for a long-standing date. As much as we love each other, we open up our relationship each Sunday for a little coffeehouse menage a trois. Every neighborhood should have a cute little coffee shop like this with friendly staff, great coffee, awesome sandwiches and the absolute best chai. The breakfast bagels are our favorite. Check it out!
(5)Robyn H.
I love this place. I live near Bryn Mawr and always make a stop here when I can. Great coffee, a great atmosphere (cozy, fun, trendy), and good people. The cashiers that work there are always nice (especially the owner). They support the community and positive social issues which is admirable. Their food is awesome...it's not fast...but it's great! I love the Grilled Hawaiian. Definitely try their breakfast sandwiches too. Their bakery items are always fresh. They serve beer and wine, which makes it a great place for a quick happy hour. Great people running a great coffee shop. One of the reasons I love my neighborhood!
(5)Ryan P.
Stopped here after the Sugar Rush Yelp Event. What a great idea! The staff was extremely friendly and informative. I had some white tea and a chocolate chip cookie. I LOVE chocolate chip cookies, and this was definitely a 4-star chocolate chip cookie. The white tea was really good as well. Bryn Mawr is this unique location/neighborhood that is easy to appreciate. It just feels more laid back here. This same attitude translates into Cuppa Java.
(4)Christina M.
Great place in a lovely little neighborhood, great atmosphere and fantastic coffee
(4)Greg D.
Great neighborhood spot. Friendly service, excellent food and fun place to gather.

Roses are red, Violets are blue...blahhh I feel lame already. Without as much sass and pizzazz as my last attempt to review this place, all I gotta say is that Cuppa Java got me hooked. First, the food and the drinks are all amazing. I've been there for more times than I dare say and I've yet to come across an item that I don't like. As for the ambience, the compactness of the space helps to heighten the sense of intimacy but the windows are big enough to not make you feel claustrophobic. That combination is just the right level for me to focus on my work without losing my mind from concentrating on the screen all the time. And, yes, the people who work there are super-friendly and nice. All in all, this place rocked 5 solid stars from me.
(5)Jason F.
This is by far the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. I almost had to excuse myself to my room and make sweet passionate love to it. Sounds like an exaggeration, but barely. I will not leave Minnesota without another one of these. (Fluffiest croissant, egg, avocado, sausage, bacon and cheese)
(5)Micki C.
Cute, quaint neighborhood spot in Bryn Mawr. Stopped in last night for a glass of wine. I didn't realize they had such an extensive menu (for a coffee shop), and read a couple reviews saying the BLT rocked so I'll have to go back. My only suggestion for the staff is not to recommend a wine if you don't know anything about wine. I didn't ask for a recommendation, ordered a full bodied zinfandel, and they kept trying to talk me into Pinot Noir for some reason. Wow, I sound like a wine snob--about the closest I get to being a wine connoisseur is wanting more than $2 buck chuck, but never spending more than $15 (for a bottle)!
(3)Whitney F.
I hesitate to write up my review of Cuppa Java, however too thankful that a friend recommended this spot for today's lunch outing. Bryn Mawr is a neighborhood I do not frequent too often if ever. There are a handful of cute shops, and Cuppa Java is planted nicely on the busiest corner. On a Wednesday for a late lunch we easily found a table inside by the floor to ceiling windows, however there were a handful of patio tables open as well. The prices were super reasonable. My sandwich came to $6 with all of the options under $10. They also have a selection of wine and beer both having happy hour specials. My sandwich was the BLT with Pumpernickel Bread. I have never seen such thick and solid bread! The bacon was perfectly crisp, and after this sandwich I was a happy lady. My dining companion ordered the Curried Chicken Sandwich which she was also impressed with. To top this - these orders came out in a jiffy! We spent about 2.5 hours catching up and gabbing on and not once did we feel rushed. There were diners camped out at the bar, enjoying a beer and what looked to be a day-time soap opera on the big screen (adding to the nostalgia). Love it! Hoping I find another care-free day to enjoy some leisure time at Cuppa Java. Bravo.
