I love football shaped pizza!!! I was super depressed and my friends cheered me up with pizza and a movie. I don't know what it was that made me so happy, but I'm banking on the delicious pizza that I completely gorged myself on. I love the dipping sauce it comes with, some sort of pesto deliciousness I guess... Seriously- why would anyone order pizza hut or domino's- ever??

Stopped by on a whim. Didn't get the pizza, but ordered the lamb tikka sandwich and eggplant plate. At first, I thought it was expensive...until they served the food. Wowza. You get lots of food. The lamb was very tender, yet cooked all the way through. The eggplant was great as well. Salad was fresh, bread was excellent. We ended up getting 4 meals between the two of us out of the one visit. Will definitely go back and try other meals.

This is one of the greatest pizzas I've ever eaten, hands down. And I have eaten a LOT of pizza in my life. Heard many great tales of the football pizza. Was drawn in by the dancing robots on the website, not to mention a $2 off coupon I had. We got a large meat lover's pizza. Spicy. Lots of green sauce. The pizza was HUGE. I smelled the green sauce and only got cilantro. Was a bit apprehensive about it, but was quickly proved oh so very wrong. It was somehow the perfect compliment to this pizza. The sauce had a little kick to it, there was a lovely amount of cheese (this ain't no punch pizza - pile it on!) and halal toppings, all piled on the most amazing chewy pita-like crust. We sat and inhaled the majority between two of us. We took the rest home (slathered in green sauce, of course) and ate it for breakfast the next day. Still delicious. I wanted more, even with the stomach ache I suffered through the night before from having consumed way too much pizza in a short amount of time. Worth it! I will be back when I have a pizza craving. I will drive my ass over there to pick it up, I don't even care. This is so much better than anything I can get delivered to my house. I want more right now after talking about it, and I just had it last night. Seriously, try the football pizza. It is dreamy. Also, visit their website. A hilarious blast back to websites circa 1997. I love the robot!

I would give them 5 stars but I'm not sure that this was the BEST pizza I've ever had. I think that goes to the first time I had a pizza at the Savoy Inn. We got a large "football" pizza, spicy, half Afghani beef and half pepperoni. The man is pickier than pickles so he was afraid to try something new. It was fantastic. Verrrry good! "Spicy" didn't mean blazin' hot. It's subtle but catches up to one after a couple of slices. The pizza was solid from the bottom up: the crust was perfectly crisp and not too thick or thin, the sauce was slightly spicy yet flavorful, the cheese was real and plentiful, and the pepperoni was good. Most of all, the Afghani beef was flipping tasty. They must brown up the beef with a ton of yummy spices before adding it to the pizzas. It tasted very similar to the meat inside of a Somalian sambusa one of my Somalian co-workers once gave me. Incredible! The green sauce tasted similar to the sambusa sauce too. Very good and tangy in a yummy way. Nommm. Green goodness + pizza = happy. The place was very clean, not the most lively of decor, but who cares. I wasn't trying to impress anyone with the decor. I just wanted some yumtastico pizza and they delivered! Further, the guy at the counter (owner or manager, perhaps?) noticed us looking around and asked if it was our first time there. It was, and he then offered to give us each a free drink. That was awesome! We'll be back! I can't wait to try gyro meat on a pizza! YUM. Go there if you want a great pizza, great service, and reasonable prices. The lunches looked ginormous (only $5, too) and I've heard they have awesome gyros.

I love a good gimmick, so of course when I saw that Crescent Moon has a football-shaped pizza I was there ordering a large meat lover's special and a small chef's special within 20 minutes. When the man taking my order, whom I think is the manager, asked me if I would like the sauce spicy, I of course agreed to that as well. The next part was an agonizing wait of roughly 25 minutes for the pizzas to emerge from the kitchen, which was the only bad part of the evening. The pizza was fantastic! Let me count the ways: 1. Crust - it was obviously fresh, as both its chewy texture and taste were great. It was kind of reminiscent of a pita transformed into a crust, which I happened to like quite a bit. 2. Sauce - the spicy addition was delicious. Slightly zingy without any overpowering tomato or herb flavors. All in all, a nice balanced sauce. 3. Meat - gyros meat on a pizza may have just escalated near the top of my list. The other meats were great too, I think any of them on their own would still make for a delicious pizza. 4. Veggies - I am always concerned when getting eggplant at a restaurant that it will be mushy and flavorless. This eggplant was cooked to the perfect texture, as were the mushrooms and black olives. The veggies were good enough to make me not miss any meat, and that is saying something. 5. Cheese - plentiful and oozing. Nuff said. 6. Green sauce in the middle cup - the ultimate condiment for this pizza. It was crazy delicious, kind of like what you put on a samosa, and I would be perfectly happy spilling it on every pizza I eat from here on out. I'm not sure how good the rest of their menu is, but I will vouch for that gyros meat and I am looking forward to chowing down a gyros from there some time soon this winter. I recommend everyone to try this pizza, its easy on the wallet and will not disappoint!

There have been soo many businesses in this space for the past 5 years. -Como Grille -Wrapanini's -Crescent Moon Pizza I had never set foot in the building before because it looked seedy. No more friends, no more! Thank goodness for Crescent Moon Pizza! Not only was the pizza real, real good, but so was the service. Go eat football shaped pizza and be merry. It really is that good. Don't order Dominos or P-Hut, go to Crescent Moon Pizza on Como. It's local, its good and that green sauce is mighty tasty.

The pizza is amazing and the staff is fantastic. I just had a pizza party for 40 graduate students and their mentors. They all loved that the football pizzas had a bit of spice to them. The best part was it was actually cheaper and much tastier than going with Papa John's or any of the other chains that I have used in the past. The delivery was right on time, and the pizzas were still hot! I highly recommend ordering from Crescent Moon for larger group events.

Two words - Football Pizza I don't care about football but I care a lot about pizza. Pizza is a part of my staple diet. Crescent Moon's veggie football pizza is nothing like the typical pizzas you would get from a franchised pizza joint. The taste is different and different good. The green chutney (mint sauce) that comes with the pizza is what you get at Indian restaurants. I think the chutney just adds to the deliciousness of their pizza. A large size pizza can serve 2-3 adults but let me tell you I have eaten several large football pizzas all by myself in the last couple of years.

We stopped buy on a Sunday for lunch and got a couple of different things. The Afghani pies where great, especially when paired with the green sauce and the sour cream I liked the spinach better than the cheese one as the cheese one falls into the block of cheese category when it cools down. I'd say Afghani pies are great for a snack or a small lunch. Then we got a side of eggplant and a side of lamb kebab. The eggplant was great. I love eggplants and these were done to perfection, roasted until sweet and melting. The lamb kebab was a meal in itself: it comes on pita bread and is accompanied by salad and the famous and the awesome green sauce and sour cream. The meat was cooked to perfection and it tasted great: it was roasted to perfect crispy and juicy without lapsing into charry and overdone. BTW if you are not for huge lunches I would stick with the side rather than go for the full plate. Very happy! Will be back and try the pizza!!

Good filler food if you're drunk, but otherwise I'd skip it. I got the gyro sandwich & it was decent, but certainly nothing worth mentioning. The gyro meat didn't seem too fresh (it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great) and the fries were drenched in seasoning which wasn't very spectacular either. I got an order of baklava to go and it was sweet as expected, but it was also so hard, it felt like it had been refrigerated for about 2 weeks. I powered through and finished the whole thing, but I think now I might have sores on my hand from trying so hard to cut off each bite. I haven't tried the pizza which a lot of people seemed to be calling in to order.

After searching Yelp for Minneapolis pizza joints, I was so excited to try Crescent Moon's Afghani-ish pizza. Central Asia doesn't get enough credit for its pizza-like dishes - just ask anyone who's eaten Turkish pide or Armenian khachapuri. And damn was it good. Perfect crust, really delicious toppings (the Afghan beef was crunchy on top and buttery underneath, the peppers and onions tender but not overcooked), and chewy cheese (not too much or too little). The green dipping sauce, which is a bit like some Indian hot pepper-cilantro dips I've had, was tangy, bright, spicy, and totally worth ordering extra of - thanks to all the brilliant Yelpers for that suggestion! The price wasn't bad either - with tax came to just under $11 dollars for a small (size seemed more like a medium) with three toppings and some extra heavenly green sauce. The only problem with Crescent Moon is that it isn't close to my house. I guess I'll have to go across the river more often now...

Ever wonder what a football pizza taste like? Well it's way better than traditional shaped pizza, and not only because of its shape! The toppings and flavors of the Middle East makes this pizza one of a kind that I go back for over and over again. Oh, and you MUST try it with their house made green sauce.

I had the traditional Gyro and fries and it was so good! The location is great for students at the U and the staff was very nice. Prices are incredibly reasonable and the menu has a good variety. I will definitely be a returning customer.

Delicious veg pizza with sumptuous crust, sauce and toppings. Initially I was put off by the canned mushroom topping but it worked quite well surprisingly. Portion sizes generous too, for such a great price!

Great place. This place has good Afghan cooking. Although the pizza is amazing (recommend the meat lover's) I think people have to try out the plates (dishes that come with rice). The plates are priced a little high (you'll be spending $12-$13) but you will have leftovers, so it's worth it. I'm Indian, and there aren't many good Indian places around campus, but this place hits my North Indian/Muslim-food sweet spot. All of the kebab meats are delicious and comparable to the best in the Twin Cities. The meat kourmas (chicken, goat, or beef) are as good as any curry and the chicken/lamb tikka is a good analogue to tandoor cooking. Also, the tea is unique and transports you to the Hindu Kush mountains from where they originate. So next time you go to Crescent Moon, try it's non-pizza menu. The food shares tastes found in Pakistani and Muslim-Indian dishes. It is representative of the best South Asian cuisine near campus.

Yes, they have pizza but they have Afghan food too! I wanted one of those football pizzas but we were really craving some yummy middle eastern food. Best Afghan food I ever had was at a friends house whose mom made us the best stuff. This was pretty up there. We got the combo plate with all the kabobs and lamb. The only complaint was that the beef was a bit dry. We had so much food and couldn't even finish it all and it only came to 30 bucks for two people. I also had the latte and it was so interesting...sprinkled with either ginger or lemongrass..but so good. This place gets 5 stars because you get good food for such a good price.

I used to go to the Crescent Moon Bakery on Central ave regularly. I recently found out that they opened a new restaurant close to the University of Minnesota which is close to my home since I live in St Paul. I love their football pizza especially with the Green Sauce. This weekend I took my friend and his girlfriend to this restaurant and they loved it. This was great because I know my buddy is from a small town up north MN and is not big on ethnic foods and usually enjoys eating bland German food :-)

Walked in to pick up some baklava though i have read about their football pizza. Will try that another day, however happened to see a glimpse of the pizza and it looked nice. For the baklava- the big and average. Value for money. Average on taste.

Amazing pizza joint. My bf just moved to his new apartment on como avenue so we went down here to celebrate and bought the meat lovers pizza. We were skeptical about the green sauce they give you along with the afghan beef and gyros meat but we quickly were turned into believers when we had it. First off, the pizza is *huge*. I could barely handle the large because it was sooo long. I will probably return here for pizza another time but I really am curious about their afghan foods. *those* I think would likely be the ticket for me since I like middle eastern cuisine myself.

I live close to here so it's very convenient when to grab to go food when I don't feel like cooking. The food is very good, and the green sauce is amazing! My only complaint is that it is a bit over priced, and the pizza in the oven at the counter always looks very unappealing.

Not bad. Not good. That's all I have to say. The gyro was mediocre. Nearly every other place that sells a gyro in this area is better. My jaw after eating the meat on the kabob platter nearly needed reconstructive surgery. The football pizza is indeed delicious and the sole reason why this place didn't get 2 stars.

You: "Do you want pizza?" Me: "No." You: "Do you want pizza now?" Me: "No." You: "Do you want Crescent Moon Pizza?" Me: "Yes!" Yep. That is the conversation we will have if you ask me if I want pizza. But Crescent Moon Pizza, you deserve five stars because I like yo pizza and pizza usually bores my taste buds. I had the Small House Special Football Pizza with Afghani beef, onions, and green peppers. The Afghani beef tasted like sausages and the onions and green peppers gave the pizza an added crunch. It was gooood. Hmmm and that green sauce. Eating pizza will no longer be the same without green sauce. I'm not sure if it was because I was really hungry or because it was really good but I ate more than half of the pizza. That rarely happens as I'm usually the one to say deuces after two slices. On the other hand, these Football Pizzas are pretty thin. The Football Pizzas come in small, medium, and large sizes and the Traditional Round Pizzas only come in extra large. I will be back. Most likely between the hours of 11am - 3pm, Monday - Thursdays for a 12" pizza for $5. Yus.

Very well priced but pretty average food. Ordered a mixed kabob plate with chicken, lamb, and gyro meat. They were cooked well but flavor was average. Great sauces to accompany the meat. Wish I had tried the pizza as it looked delicious and seems to be their specialty.

They are doing some new interior decorating right now so it is very loud, stay away. Also, the guy who took my order was not helpful or attentive at all. I've been coming here for years and it just seems to go downhill more each year. I once saw a cook lick his hands twice while making a gyro. Sad, because they gyros used to be pretty decent. Go to Wally's in Dinkytown instead, atmosphere is nicer, service is better, food portions and cleanliness are MUCH better.

Is Crescent Moon feminine? I don't know, but I feel like I can try on masculinity here. Came here today, on this rainy afternoon, with some guys. And what did we do? Order the house special football pizza. Large. Pink-shirt wearing guy at the counter is a singer in a touring band, which gave him some credibility when he said that the small was for one person, medium for two, and large for three. We were three (healthy/fit adults), and we had three slices leftover. Crescent Moon has cokes to match your vibe. One got a coke that said BRO and the other one got a coke that said FRIEND. So uncannily accurate. Nice with the details, CM. And yes, everything else here is good (kourma, kebab, combos, etc). I like this location a little more than the Central Ave one, but I can't tell you why.
(4)
Alex C.
Small place that feels a little like a deli except instead of salads and sandwiches, you can get pizza and gyros. Overall, my experience was okay. The gyro was unfortunately weak. Dry bread and meat, and difficult to eat, which made it impossible to finish. At the counter, there was pizza sitting on a heating oven which made it seem like I was about to get something from a concession stand. However, when we ordered it came from the back and it was surprisingly delicious and the sole reason I'm boosting this place up to 3 stars. I would describe it as cheesy pita bread with some unique middle-eastern flair. Good to try but nothing exceptional.

This is one of my favorite places. It's family run, and they are a sweet, friendly staff. Portion sizes are generous, and they're green cilantro sauce, which is tangy and spicy, is famous and is a great addition to their pizza and Middle Eastern/Afghan dishes. I've tried all their pizzas, which are delicious and some of their sandwiches and dishes. The pizza's crush is perfect: not too thin nor too thick, good amount of tomato sauce, and generous toppings. Besides the pizza, their spinach and chicken kabobs are my favorites as well. There is something about that chicken kabob; I am addicted to it! I think anything you get here will make you happy. I've never been disappointed! Their food isn't spicy but is very savory and flavorful. If you want it spicy, they have plenty of sauces to spice your food up! The Como location has lunch specials and plenty of seating. Not a hole in the wall but not overly fancy either. The other location is on Central Ave. Good place for friends, family, dates, etc. Their meat is halal! They also have teas and coffees and desserts!

In the rough and tumble world of pizza joints near campus (which come and go almost yearly) Crescent Moon has managed to make a go of it by combining a flat bread crust that is similar to pizza, some traditional pizza toppings and some Middle Eastern style toppings. I don't know whether it's the shape, reminiscent of an American football, the generous portion size or the unique combination of flavors, but Crescent Moon pizza has found a winning combination.

Great take out pita based Afghani beef pizza with green sauce. The "spicy" pizza could be a bit more spicy.
(4)
Sam M.
The pizza was good. It was oval like a football. We tried the afghan beef with onions, green pepper and black olives. The crust stood out the most about what makes this pizza unique. This Crescent Moon is on the corner of Como and 15th. Its in that slot that never seems to keep a business more than a year or so, so kudos for them already being here for 3. I guess I just missed what all the rave reviews are about. It wasn't bad, but there are a lot of good and unique pizza spots in the Twin Cities. Perhaps its the non-pizza items. There were quite a variety. The cashier was friendly. The place wasn't too busy for a Friday afternoon. Get the bottled soda. The fountain soda was pretty flat and flavorless.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Afghan Beef pizza was my favorite. Just a great unique taste. Their green dipping sauce could be used on anything.

Although I have not tried anything else on the menu, the pizza is delicious, cheap & my go to for pizza take out in the neighborhood.

Not bad.
