Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

I've ordered from here a 10 plus times over three years. The quality is steadily and horrifyingly going down. The food is greasy, oily in that thick gelatinous sauce. The flavors are bland, boring. The dumplings used to be good, now they're falling apart and greasy. The chow mein was a singular terror i wouldn't wish on my enemies. The lo mein is bland, with gross vegetables. It did used to be better, but now it's sub par and not worth the money.

Syndicate-style processed Chinese, stay away. This place is a little shack a block from Hop Wong and they pump out the same tasteless dreck. The chicken has the texture of jelly.

I've got to say that I am now a fan of China Wok. My wife and I were bringing our baby home from the hospital and were craving some Chinese. The main requirement was that it had to be very close to home or deliver to our home. China Wok, being only 5 block away and with free delivery, fit both categories. My wife and I called in a somewhat large order since we wanted to have leftovers. They delivered the food within 20 min (thank you!) and the order was 100% correct. Now on to the food. I don't think there was a dish we didn't like. We loved the Mongolian Beef (great sauce) and the Orange Peel Chicken (love the spice). We both highly recommend you try the Lo Mein (I could eat the noodles alone) and the Fried Doughnuts (trust me, they are unreal). I think China Wok will be our new go-to-place for Chinese takeout.

I ordered China Wok because I am sick of ordering from the few good delivery options MPLS has to offer. The food was delivered impossibly fast, which isn't necessarily a good thing. It was food quart quality--it tasted processed and full of sodium. I couldn't taste much aside from that. A lot of people like this kind of Chinese food, though. Hence, the mixed reviews.

great place to get chinese food !

china wok is definitely a take-out place. it was raining and i was on break from work, so i didn't have anywhere to take it out to, so i ate there at the one little table open for customers. i started pretending i was an exchange student in my host family's chinese home. my host-brother was watching tee-vee and reading the paper at a table nearby, and i noticed my host-baby had left a bouncy chair and some toys on the floor. perhaps she was out at the park with my host-father. My host-mom served me with a smile and my vegetarian dish was quick, fresh, and delicious. after i ate, she packed my leftovers up and sent me skipping out into the world; i was disappointed to find myself back in the large and familiar united states of america. when i let go of what i am, i become what i might be.

Food was average. Service was below par. Took 50 minutes for the delivery guy to arrive, and they forget the sauce for sweet and sour chicken.... Called and told them, and it took another hour for them to bring the sauce! By then the meat was cold! No compensation offered for the mistake either.

Good solid Chinese delivery. I had the Sesame chicken with white rice which was good. Nothing spectacular but good. Big portion sizes so I had lunch the next day! best part is they DELIVER!

It's an average Chinese takeout place. The delivery was remarkably fast, and the online ordering worked well. But the food was not all that flavorful. Not bad, just . . . average.

I just ordered from here for a second time this week. Yeah, I'm really picky when it comes to Chinese food but this is LITERALLY the only place the will deliver to our new home that has edible food options! In a nutshell - The food quality is what I would consider average for Chinese food... it's not special, but it is definitely in a league of it's own when it comes to the sauces!!! The General Tso's Chicken here comes in a sauce that is nice and rich, and exceptionally spicy! It makes me happy because I usually can't stand how freaking un-spicy it is when they put that little pepper in front of it... This place takes it seriously and that's good cuz I love me some spicy food! Followed up by the egg rolls which are a little greasy from the deepfrier, but seriously crisp, the veggies are delicious that they pack in here, and dipped in the sweet and sour sauce, mmmmmm. And then the wontons... they are the perfect amount of sweet and creamy!!! Seriously, this place serves up some good ass Chinese food!

Sweet and Sour chicken is super crispy even when delivered and the Donuts are INSANELY good. Wontons are prime. Delivery drivers are very friendly and generally fast. What else do you need?

Don't take the three stars the wrong way. My girlfriend and I were looking for some standard, cheap, large-portioned Chinese takeout one night, so we decided to try China Wok. We were not disappointed. Toss in the fact they have online ordering and this is my new go-to for some quick, cheap, decent Chinese food. The menu is extensive, and ordering online was rather slick and very simple. The food just simply hit the spot. It was tasitly average and in no way is that meant negatively. The cheese wontons were what you'd find at a buffet-style Chinese joint. The veggie rolls were pretty decent (2.40 for 2). The egg rolls are classic and cheap ($1) My girlfriend ordered the chicken low mein combo and I went with my favorite, General Tso's chicken. We got exactly what we expected: a large portion of both main dish and fried rice with an ample portion of sauces. Both combos were under $10. The chicken pieces were large and tender and the sauces were adequately spiced. I also added a small order of sweet and sour chicken ($5), which was run of the mill and exactly what I wanted. Bottom line: I'd recommend China Wok to anyone looking for loads of classic, standard, Americanized Chinese food without breaking the bank.

I consider Chinese food to be a culinary institution, loaded with salt and calories, Hooraay for the moribund food lover. The scene Jen J. Describes is freakish but it is what makes this little spot unique. Homey little place, awesomely cooked Chow Mein. Love their Szechuan & Hunan dishes, but my personal favorites are the Chicken Rice Soup and General Tso's Chicken. I love eating in every time I am here rather than taking out, maybe it has something to do with the fact "Cops" is always on on the little 17In "tee-vee". There is Something amusing about other people's social shortcomings on "tee-vee"

I've had it today. After ordering from this place for 3 times out of desperation, this place definitely won't get my service again after today. Hot and sour soup was like a plain thick broth with random vegetables in it (carrot slices and lettuce? I've never had that in my hot and sour soup before). Don't be fooled by the number of items on their menu either. I can assure you that the majority of their "stir fries" will be soaked/slimy in some sweet and sour sauce. If you want a noodle dish, do NOT order chow mein. When I placed the order, I was assured that the dish would come with fried noodles but apparently, the woman on the phone took it literally and gave me the crunchy kind that you sprinkle on top of your salad. The dish itself also turned out to be some gooey gravy sauce on top of rice. Needless to say, I couldn't make myself finish it or think about ever ordering from them again. Ugh.

We were looking for Chinese delivery in South Mpls and found China Wok. We ordered the Sesame Chicken and Beef with broccoli platters. The food was delivered in less than 40 minutes and we are just east of Lake Nokomis. It was hot, fresh and delicious! Not greasy. The egg rolls were crisp and tasty. The driver was friendly and we will order again!! Also, don't forget the naughty fried donuts...they were awesome!

I wanted to like this place, mostly because I am looking for a local Chinese delivery place to keep in our rotation. And honestly, I didn't even have very high expectations at all - just wanted some generic, greasy, Americanized Chinese food...however, I am sorry to say that even that low bar was unmet... My experience: we'd been at a wedding all weekend and were far too depleted to make anything ourselves, so we decided to give China Wok a shot. We found them online but also have received a menu in our mailbox before. Online delivering was a breeze and I was able to find vegetarian options (of which I tried: General Tso's tofu, vegetarian fried rice to share, vegetarian eggrolls to share) while my guy chose the Black Pepper Chicken. Our order arrived in 30-45 minutes and the delivery driver was friendly and grateful for the tip. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, I was put-off by the fact that the entire credit card number shows up on the order form/print-out. The driver was kind enough to point that out and let me know that I should destroy it, but it still seems like an issue they need to correct for security (and customer-perceived safety) purposes. That being said, I doubt I'll be ordering again anyway...the food was just not good. The sauce on my tofu was extremely watered down and had no flavor, the fried tofu cubes themselves had a very bizarre marshmallowy texture, like the watered down sauce had been absorbed by the batter and caused the chunks of tofu to bloat...which to be honest wasn't a terrible mouth experience, but it was definitely unexpected. I've never had tofu like that - and I eat a lot of tofu. The broccoli in my dish tasted completely off (to the point that I couldn't eat it...and I'd requested EXTRA broccoli because I'm a broccoli fiend), the eggrolls were fine I suppose - but cold and mostly forgettable - and my guy hardly took three bites of his chicken before he called it quits. The vegetable fried rice was decent, and the broccoli in that actually tasted good - unlike the broccoli in my main dish. They also gave a great assortment of sauce packets including a hot sauce, duck sauce, spicy mustard, soy sauce, etc. The fried rice, low price/portion size ratio, and sauce packets are what won them 2 stars instead of one. Take from that what you will.

My husband and I ordered from here not too long ago and we absolutely loved it. We have had some really bad experiences with other Chinese delivery places so this place was a breath of fresh air for us. I must say that unless you are ordering pizza for delivery that food ,no matter what kind it is, is never as good as if you were to get it straight from the kitchen to the table, especially fried food. So for you folks complaining about the soggy egg rolls I suggest that you get off your couches and actually go out. That aside we both got combination platters and loved them. The cream cheese wontons were great as well, crunchy and hot:) We will be ordering from here for now on and hopefully it's great every time.

Very good food! I typically get orange chicken along with fried wontons or steamed dumplings, and the orange chicken is particularly good in that it has orange peals in the sauce, making it taste significantly more fresh than typical orange chicken. The delivery is often somewhat slow, however.

We ordered delivery, and it took 50 minutes... which is fine if the food is good, but it really isn't. The sesame chicken was too sweet, and my boyfriend is re-frying the underdone potstickers as I type this. Everything else was bland. Even among Americanized Chinese delivery places who haven't upped their game since the 90s, this is below average. The search for quality Chinese delivery continues! EDIT: Like these other reviewers, my order also came with a full printout that included my credit card information. That is shady as hell.
(2)Corey N.
Very bad for chinese food delivery standards, top 3 worst out of 50 or so that I've had. On the plus side our order arrived, no bathroom issues, and no credit card issues yet though were keeping an I eye out for it(full credit card number is printed on the receipt).

My go to spot for Chinese delivery. Pretty much any place can make a decent lo mein or fried rice, but the reason I keep coming back are the meat wontons. I've only found one other place in Minneapolis that has better wontons, but their food wasn't as good as here. Also, I like that when I order my food spicy, it actually comes spicy. You would be surprised how many places don't up the spice when you request it.
(4)Jennifer L.
Quick delivery, nice drivers, food is consistently good and how I ordered it. There lo mein is my favorite for take out in south Minneapolis.
(4)Patrick S.
This place has the slowest delivery ever. Placed an order online and it took over an hour and a half to arrive. This is not the first time this has happened before. They have also forgotten my order as well. It's a shame because the food is actually quite good. But they need to get another delivery driver or something because this is ridiculous.

A group of us has been eating dinner weekly at this restaurant and we've had nothing but good food. And the prices are unbelievably low, especially for shrimp dishes. Go for it!

Yesterday I walked into this place and ordered for hot and spicy chicken for take away and when I came home and tasted the food it was so sweet that I couldn't eat all of it and there was no spicy factor in any part of food and egg roll was so cool as it was taken out of refrigerator... gave two stars only for friendly way they treat you when u walk in... never ever will be going again here
(2)David B.
The food was alright. However, the delivery took over an hour, and when we received it, it also came with a sheet that had my entire credit card information printed on it: Name, credit card number, exp. date, and security code. This is very insecure and not acceptable for this information to be stored as plain text. Beware of ordering with credit card.
(2)David D.
Excellent vegetarian options with great portions. Staff is friendly and courteous. This is a perfect place to grab something filling on the way home.
(5)L S.
It's a bit of a dive. You won't want to eat there (no one else does). But the food is excellent. There are usually lots of vegetables that aren't overcooked. It's definitely cheap. The portions are big enough to feed several, so we always have leftovers for the next day. My only complaint might be that it's a bit too salty. If they toned down the salt, the flavor would probably be better (and I wouldn't have to drink several glasses of water when I eat their food). They have made mistakes on my order, but they always fix them.
(5)Matt M.
In my 12 years in Minneapolis, I've complained about the lack of delivery options in the city. So glad to find China Wok. Now, it's not gourmet. But when I order out for Chinese, I'm not looking for gourmet. Delivery was fast and the food was good. The vegetables, in particular, were incredibly fresh. Definitely worth checking out.

If I could give a restaurant a million stars, China Wok would be the recipient. Granted, I ordered from here after spending the day moving into a new house and digging the sod out of our backyard for a garden. My skin was red from spending too much time in the sun, I was dehydrated, and I had celebrated the house with a bottle of champagne and a beer. Still, though, this is the greatest Chinese food in the history of the universe. We ordered online and the food took less than 20 minutes to get here. I nearly tore the bag open as the delivery guy was handing over the goods. I could smell the fried pieces of meat floating in sugary sauces through the bag. The food smelled too good to be put on a plate and eaten with dignity, so we tore in. Fried cheese, dumplings, chicken, pork, all delicious. I'd tell you exactly what we ordered but the evening is a blur. All I know is that everything was delicious, affordable and substantial. I just ate leftovers for lunch, and I can say that my food tasted almost as good as I remember it tasting last night. Also, I fell asleep at 7pm after eating food from China Wok, so if you can't sleep this might be the place for you.

I absolutely love this place. I order at least once or twice a week I usually get there white rice and sesame chicken with vegetable egg rolls. It's amazing but sometimes their prices increase without you knowing. And sometimes people that answer the phone from you can be a bit rude the food is amazing just the customer service needs to be worked on
(5)Eric K.
Given the lack of delivery options in the area, we thought we would try a Chinese delivery. China Wok had recently mailed us a menu, so we thought we would give them a try. The delivery was prompt and the prices were good. The smell from the paper sack was enticing. Then we opened the packages up and were saddened. The steamed dumplings were average at best, and the garlic ginger sauce was watered down and dull. The General Tso's Chicken tasted as though I had heated it up in the microwave, but the clear loser of this meal was my wife, who ordered the Chicken Almond Ding. The bland , tasteless meal was served in a porridge of corn starch, suffused with boiled chicken, untoasted almonds, and celery. What keeps this from getting a one-star review is that I have experienced worse delivery food, with higher prices and less competent delivery service.

I don't write a ton of reviews but something this good deserves it. Somehow I've lived in South Minneapolis for 2+ years and just now tried China Wok. Tragic. I got delivery. Prompt. Estimate 45 mins., arrived in 25. The prices are a bit above food court level, but the food is excellent. The ingredients taste fresh: noodles and rice aren't soggy, just perfect. veggies were crisp and tasty. Sauces melted my heart. I'm salivating as I write this. Portions were great for the quality and price. Typically I find you can get: big portions, good food, or low prices, but not all three. Except at China Wok. Home run.
(5)Jen S.
I placed order online at 11:45 am. When I hadn't received my food by 1:45pm I called the restaurant to inquire about the status of my order. The person said that "sometimes the internet doesn't work" (though I received a confirmation email and when I called the woman could see my order plain as day). She said that there were "a few orders ahead of me" so it would be another 30-45 minutes. Really?? My order was placed 2 hours ago but there are a few orders ahead of me?? She made no effort to rush my order or bump it to the top of the queue so I ended up canceling my order. I cannot speak to the quality of the food but the quality of their ordering system and customer care is severely lacking! PS-if China Wok KNOWS that from time to time their internet doesn't work meaning that orders get missed, then why do they continue to use this system???
