Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I've been to Acapulco probably a dozen times over the years. Compared to any Tex Mex you'd get in Texas, the food here is not great. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to believe this restaurant chain would survive. That said, we are talking about Tex Mex in Minnesota, not Texas, so standards must be lowered. My family seems to love this restaurant. I've never understood why. Perhaps it's because I lived in Dallas for four years and can differentiate between great Tex Mex, palatable Tex Mex and downright terrible Tex Mex. And when I'm in town, they always suggest eating here. I usually cringe at the thought. Yesterday was no exception but the carnitas tacos I had last night were pretty good. Definitely the best dish I've ordered. A tad on the greasy side, they had good flavor and the tortilla was nice and gooey. The cheese sauce my family seems to be addicted to wouldn't stand a chance against a standard queso dip found anywhere in Texas. As my sister said, "it's not worth the calories if you don't like the taste." That in there was the problem - there is no taste. It's just white hot glue. The salsa lacks any and all spice. The tortilla chips are generally tasty. Is Acapulco better than Don Pablo's? Yes. Is it better than El Toro? Yes. Is it better than XYZ Tex Mex in Texas? No. Not a chance.

Went to this restaurant for the first time with the family and received terrible service. The restaurant wasn't even busy and there were two employees at the front and saw us waiting and didn't bother to greet us or seat us until I asked to be seated. The employee was annoyed that I asked. The waiter didn't say hi at all and I commented it was my first time there and if they had any suggestions on what to try, the guy gave me the menu and walked away. The food was not great. Will never go back!

Oh nom nom nom - mediocre Americanized Mexican food at its best. You go here for the chips and queso and taquitos. Oh, and margaritas the size of your head. Tequila! This location: great, parking is free and plentiful, and the restaurant is larger than expected. They have a really nice patio in the summer months, too. The food: portions are huge, so you can easily share an meal between two people, especially if you fill up on chips and salsa before you even order. My family really likes to come here, partially because of the location, and partially because of the chips and queso. They typically get our large group in quickly, but seem to lag in the 'getting out' part. It always seems to be slow to get your check and pay. Don't you want my money Acapulco? Did I mention they have really good queso? Who doesn't love cheese?

I've been going to this Acapulco location for close to 10 years now. Really don't remember what drew us in. The service is very good. Only once in the 10 years or so of going there can I remember waiting for an unreasonable amount of time. The food usually gets there within 15 minutes of ordering. Which still surprises me most of the time since most other places it takes forever. Like many other mexican restaurants, Acapulco serves the chips / salsa pre meal. Their salsa is great and has sort of a unique flavor. I will say though that sometimes the chips will be stale. It doesn't happen often, but in the interest of keeping this review honest, it's mentionable. But every time it's happened, just a mention has the waitperson bring a new warm batch with no issues. But, I've had several of the menu items. Chicken chimis (highly recommended), fajitas, chili Colorado, carnitas, the Yucatan chicken, etc. The only one I'd consider poor was the Yucatan chicken. It's flat, dry and fairly bland. Over the summer they added a chicken mole'. Never having it before I wanted something new. Honestly have to say it was one of the best meals I've had. Very tasty and different flavor (mole sauce is made with unsweetened chocolate). One word of warning. If you're planning to go, nights and weekends it gets packed. So expect a wait. There can be a very long line.

The wife and I stopped in here yesterday because we were in the area and it sounded better than the A&W and the Long John Silver's that they share the little strip mall with. First impression wasn't great, my side of the booth had a big hole in seat cushion and when the waiter came and gave us our menus, they were full of greasy fingerprints and who knows what else. Then my wife orders a raspberry lemonade and the waiter looks at her like he's dumbfounded, like he'd never heard of this concoction before so she went with a regular lemonade. Then our chips and salsa come, most of the chips were broken and really kinda bland but the salsa was decent, not spicy, but pretty good flavor. If they have lunch specials we missed it since we got there at around 4:00, so we ordered off the regular / dinner menu. I ordered the Chimichanga, which you get 2 of, so I got 1 beef and 1 chicken. They came with lettuce and rice (which they hardly give you any of), and I had to get sour cream separate, but no biggy! My wife ordered Enchiladas (chicken). By this time I was kinda nervous since nothing was too impressive so far but to my surprise when our meals came, both were very good. The meat in both of our meals was seasoned to perfection and the sauces were very tasty as well. So what started not that great ended well. I'd try it again and hopefully be able to move it to 4 stars, but first they must ..... 1. Wipe off the menus, you'd have to be blind to not see how gross they were. And 2. Patch the giant ass rip / hole that is in the booth seat cushion where I sat. I would think there's more booths like that as well, or was I just that lucky? and 3. Don't give me a basket of broken chips again as they are extremely hard to to dip into the salsa!

Cheap giant beers & awesome cheese dip. Thats why i go. Chilaquiles & fajitas are pretty darn good too.

The food here is mediocre, even when compared to other Mexican food chains. It will fill your stomach, but that's about it. Very bland and boring. We've been several times and the service has not been that impressive either. Unfortunately I have yet to find a decent Mexican food restaurant on the north side. The best I've found up here is Don Pablo's, with the closest location being in Maple Grove. I would even take El Loro in Brooklyn Park over this place.

I like mexican food... And I reaaaallllly like chips and salsa. 'Specially when they're free. One awesome thing about Acapulco is that the free chips and salsa are really good. The chips aren't super thick (and therefore tough) and the salsa isn't super spicy (and therefore you can consume mass quantities). Also, the beers come in upwards of 36 oz. glasses and only cost $3.25... ALL THE TIME... That's right, no "Happy Hour" BS. S'quality. Also, a big plus is their Queso (read: "cheese") dip. So very very good... So goood..... *thinking about it now* Also the burritos are huge and rock cheap, and they let you sit and drink beer and eat as many chips as you want... No awkward glances from the staff if you eat 10 lbs. of chips when only ordering one beer. The only thing that is lacking at Acapulco is a quality fajita (They're marginal, nothing special, nothing noteworthy, a fabulous fajita would bring my rating to 5 stars) and a non-ridiculous restaurant name to try and spell so you can look it up online.

We had a discount card from the local high school football team, so we thought we would give Acapulco a try. We exceeded the minimum "requirements" for receiving the discount. The waitress came back and said the manager wouldn't honor the discount because the drinks were a happy hour special. We have used this card at other restaurants during happy hour and have never had a problem. We will not be returning to this establishment ever again. The food was decent, but nothing special.

A very Americanized version of Mexican food. Nice atmosphere, good service, and reasonable prices. Mediocre chips, very plain salsa, and pedestrian entrees. I'm sure there are better offerings; this was nearby where we were staying. It filled our bellies but wasn't anything to write home about. Acapulco's = MEH Food = 2 stars Service = 2.5 stars Value = 2.5 stars MISC = 2.5 stars I'd probably give it a solid 2.5 star rating...

We went to Acapulco for lunch this week. I have been here over a dozen times and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent and the atmosphere has a nice Mexican flair. The food portions and taste are superb. We usually get the chicken creamed burrito (dinner size - which is two burrito's), so we can eat half and bring home the second burrito. They bring out complimentary warm chips and salsa for you and refill whenever it get's empty. The chips are thin and crispy and the salsa is wonderful. Not to hot and not to bland. Every trip brings us the same experience, great food and terrific fast service. We will be coming back. Oh, did I mention the prices. They are very reasonable. Overall, a great value.

The food was "OK" but there was a lot of "cheese sauce" instead of real cheese on some of the entrees. This location is in a building that would be better suited to a retail shop, not a restaurant. The ceilings are very high and "uncovered". So, the ambient noise level is so high you can't talk to people at the same table, without shouting. I'll try a different location... this one is just too friggin' loud.

A great place to eat if your looking for an inexepensive/quick meal. Their service is always great. Don't forget to ask for their cheese dip with your chips...it's great! On the weekends they also have a live Mariachi band...very festive!

Good food and reasonably priced. Love the patio in the summer. We come here pretty often and are never disappointed.

The chimichangas are what I always get, and acapulco has some great ones. I recommend the chicken. They have a tasty cheesy sauce that they put on top. The only thing is, the rice they give you on the platter is tasteless and has corn in it, which I don't like. The chips are really tasty though, and they serve pepsi products, which means you can get mt dew with your lunch!
