If I could go lower in the rating I would. This food has absolutely no flavor. It's like eating water if you could imagine that. Everything I ordered was bland, bland, bland. The sauces tasted like nothing and even the fried rice was lacking. Never again!

I love this place, I have been eating here since I was a kid. My wife loves it as well. The people (family) that own and run it are great. The cream cheese puffs are a fantastic app, the egg rolls are good as well. My favorite entree is the lemon chicken, others in my family enjoy the sweet and sour chicken as well as the beef and broccoli and of course plenty of fried rice. Open late on Fridays and Saturdays nights is great too.

The food is pretty good. I ordered Sweet & Sour soup and Beef & Broccoli. Both are very good portioned and they sure don't short me on beef :-) Great place to do take out. I don't see many people dine-in though.

While in Bloomington at MOA Waterpark with my three girls we came here for dinner since it was so close and had good reviews. We found the people to be extremely friendly and the food very good. The only drawback is that the place is pretty dumpy and worn out. The chairs were pretty nasty as was the carpeting. This place desperately needs a makeover!

This is in Bloomington, off a frontage road. I have been here before, but last visit was first time in a while. I think it's overpriced, bland and unappealing, at least my triple crown dish was, smaller portions. Plus the shrimp that were in the dish were twisted, not whole ones that are better in Chinese food; this is caused them to be smaller and for the cost of the dish, I felt cheated. The order came with fried rice, which I seemed standard, so I has to ASK foe white rice, really?! Not everyone likes fried rice. The 1st wok in the Uptown area is far better, better service to better food, and the decor is not so 1970ish. Not worth the time or money, when better options like Xin Wong.

We have been going here for 30 years! The food is excellent. The service is top notch. This is a great place to get dinner!

The Server was friendly and attentive. The fried rice was lacking salt. The pepper steak had more onions and peppers than steak.

Their egg drop soup and subgum fried rice are to die for, never go here without getting these two dishes. Customer service is great, all their waitress and waiter are nice and interactive.

As a small business family, I like supporting small business. Time on my hands, need a good meal and this little place seemed to have a good local following, a good sign. Reviews on Yelp are all right on. Friendly small place, good portion, fresh good taste. SOOOO 70's i am surprised it made it through the 90s. The good news is it's so 70's, it's almost cool again. LOL. Had Broc Beef. Good dish. A nice retreat from the Asian food buffet craze in America.

Family business, been around forever. Nice people and great prices. The food is always hot and amazing and fresh! Been coming here for years and will continue to do so!

From out of town, was looking for Asian cuisine. This place kinda felt like it was stuck in the 80s, but it had such charm. Our waitress had an accent, but the language barrier wasn't an issue when we ordered we just felt a little rushed because they started cleaning tables up at 830 when the sign said they closed at 930pm. We ordered two cups of oolong and they gave us the whole pot for 60 cents. For our meal we got their Chicken Lo mein and Mandarin chicken to share for two people and it was plenty. Also, apparently, one of those dishes came with sides of rice or they just gave us sides of rice with our meal. Good meal, the sauces really made the dishes great, interesting location. I'd eat here again-- 3.5 stars

This place is badly in need of a makeover, but who cares? Ignore the wood paneling and indulge in some of the best old-school Chinese food in town. The family that owns this place is incredibly nice. My sister has been a regular for years and they give her free chicken wings. Like I said, the food is old-school -- no funky fusion stuff, just old-fashioned Chinese-American grub. Some standouts: the crab Rangoon (fantastic), dumplings, hot and sour soup, kung pao shrimp (all their shrimp dishes are cooked perfectly), and mu shu pork. I love the spicy mustard that they serve with the appetizers. Lots of fresh veggies in everything.

Great place to chow down if you're in the mood for great Chinese food. When we came in the ambiance was a bit dead - however it was about 430pm so can't be too picky here. Nevertheless, the food was superb. We ordered the orange spicy chicken and we were shocked to see the size of the portions - big enough for two people, if not more. Luckily we only ordered one entree so we were very pleased with our selection, and it ended up helping make our tab a lot cheaper. Funny because at first we were surprised to see the prices in the menu after we saw only 1 $ sign on Yelp, definitely higher than 1 $ and almost borderline PF Chang's prices. Finally our waitress was very nice and super funny and personable, she even gave us two extra fortune cookies so she earned a good tip. All in all good value for your money - again watch the portions and don't pig out and eat the whole plate by yourself.

I ordered food from here a couple nights ago based on the good reviews found here and on Google. I must say I am extremely confused as to how this was establishment has an above average rating. The egg rolls and cream cheese wontons were okay but the entrees we ordered were disgusting. Inedible. We ordered two chicken entrees, sesame and general tso. The chicken was tough and chewy and the breads was super soggy and chewy, almost like it was reheated in the microwave. Will not be ordering from here again.

Is there something less than one star? Flavorless, greasy, fatty, disgusting. I had sweet and sour pork, egg drop soup, fried rice, and BBQ ribs. Just terrible!

I've been eating here since i was a kid. Its family owned and everyone that works there is friendly and thy make you feel right at home. I'm not a fan of the decor but, the food is whats important.

I've been coming to this place for 20+ years. The food and the service are always very good, no complaints, with large portions for the price. The Triple Delight is one of my favorites and my wife usually gets the Cashew Chicken. I don't think the interior has been updated since I first came here, but don't let it scare you off. They also do a lot of take out orders as well...

Yes the interior is a color of brown not seen seen since the 70s but it's one of my favorite places for lunch in the area. It's very old school Americanized Chinese food. If you are looking for authentic Chinese then keep looking. I normally get the beef Szechuan. It's a little Minnesota mild but good enough. The owner is really nice and makes sure you're never short of drinks. Finally try the ice tea. It actually tastes of tea rather than the brown water that you normally get.

I ordered chicken in garlic sauce, however, the food did not taste good. It didn't have a fresh feel to it - something which is synonymous with chinese food. Slightly pricier but the portions are big.

Love their hot and sour soup. Love, love, love the food. Service is super awesome and personable. Another yelper's review on the decor of this place is very accurate. It's stuck in the 70's style but the food and service tops everything else. Yum!!!!!!!

Best Chinese food in the twin cities hands down. Have been going here for 15 years. If you're a regular, the owners will always give you free apps which is awesome. All dishes are great, never had a bad meal here. Hot and sour soup is a must.

Outstanding food and service. Always enough to take home. Not so great atmosphere but the food makes up for it all.

Many dishes seem to have similar sauce and flavors. But it is always hot and fresh.

Come for the food, not for the ambiance. They have been there for generations and have never disappointed. I've been going there for 20 years now and can't fathom them ever leaving. I'd be devastated if they did lol. For an appetizer, order the crab rangoon. It's stuffed with yummy goodness. All their soups are wonderful. The hot n sour soup has the perfect balance of savory & sour. The egg drop soup is so light & fluffy with an awesome broth to it. As for entrees, their triple delight is always on point. I also like their hunan shrimp. They have the best lunch specials. You get soup, fried rice & a small entree for an avg price of $7-$8. Owners are always friendly & humble. Love 1st Wok!!

I'm pretty sure that they filmed some scenes from the movie "Fargo" in this place. Well, okay, I'm pretty sure they didn't, but the decor is straight out of the late 70's-early 80's complete with wood panel and brick walls. Also the fact that as we walked in we instantly were overwhelmed by the cackling of a true blue, red blooded Minnesotan Lutheran church lady squawking about the last church board meeting, might have contributed to the fact that I thought I was walking into a stereotype of our great state. All of these things combined was why I really liked this place. I tend to get sick of these hip new Chinese and Thai places with fancy bars and tables and square plates. At 1st Wok, they've most likely been using the same tables and chairs and plates since the late 70's and haven't redecorated since then either. I find this incredibly humbling and homely. The food was not out of this world, but, if your looking for your standard Chinese food done well, they definitely hit the mark, and the atmosphere and staff will make you feel pretty comfortable while you enjoy it.

I'm obsessed with 1st Wok and so is the rest of my family. I've been driving here for Chinese my whole life and it's been at least a 25 minute drive to get there. The owner, Phil, is fantastic and every time I go in he sits with us and discusses soccer (his daughter plays) or just life in general. The food is awesome. I urge all people to try Shrimp and Sizzling Rice soup. it is so fantastic and nothing quite compares. I've been trying to find a recipe. Go here!

Fine Chinese restaurant., no buffet. Same family has run this since the early 1980's, and given a lot back to the community. Try the Sesame Shrimp or Chicken Fried Rice.

If you LOVE Americanized Chinese food (which, btw is NOT the same as Chinese food) this is some of the best. When I lived in MSP and worked near the airport i ate here at least 1/week. For whatever reason lunch always seemed tastier than when I visited a few times for dinner. The hot and sour soup is good, the shrimp toast and egg rolls are some of the best i've ever had anywhere, my entree faves are the triple delight, chicken in hot garlic sauce, shredded beef szechuan style, if you like ginger and green beans any of the green bean specials are wonderful, the hot and spicy seafood noodle soup is good too.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
