Perfect spot for wonderful Chai & oatmeal! Everyone was so nice & they even remembered me when I stopped in the next day. Next visit I will have to try a bagel - they look great!

food is very good, but service is uneven--college kids mostly. The last time I was there, the server at the counter left my sandwich on the counter and didn't let me know it was ready. I stood there like an idiot for about 10 minutes and then finally asked about it, and she was quite rude and dismissive. Won't go back there any time soon.

Good atmosphere and food. Selection is small but they can make you any sandwich with a variety of different bagels. They also have gluten free bread. As for the ingredients most of it is local or organic. I'm usually here for the coffee which is pretty good.

Excellent food and service! Highly recommended for a quick meal. The healthy melt is a very tasty choice!

Some of the best customer service I've ever gotten. Quite possibly the worst bagels I've ever had. I'm from NYC. Perhaps I'm biased. But, the "kitchen sink" bagels are basically a mix of poppy/sesame/rye seeds...no salt, no garlic, no onion. They are dusted with semolina or cornmeal on the bottom, which is a HUGE no-no in the world of bagels, unless you're Dunkin' Donuts. Again....some of the nicest people in the service industry, and a really good cup of coffee as well....but the bagels are simply NOT bagels.

This place is an unexpected gem in the heart of Mankato. The staff was inviting and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was perfect for meeting friends or hanging out and doing a little work. Their ingredients are fair-trade and locally sourced. It really doesn't get any better than this!

That was really tasty!

I enjoy this little bagle place. Fantastic atmosphere, coffee is pretty good ( although they're not really baristas) bagels are great very fresh. The staff is usually pretty friendly which is getting rarer and rarer these days. Parking can be rough in the morning however. Overall, a little Gem in downtown Mankato.

Great place to relax and work while also enjoying good food. Had the pizza bagel and a side salad. Would have liked to see more salad and soup options but I get that bagels are it's thing. Agree with the dirty tables comment though. Seems like the place is consistently busy which may explain that. Definitely would recommend!

Overpriced and when you order a large they only fill it up halfway. I've been to this place a few times now and every time I leave I feel ripped off and not satisfied

I love Tandem! When I first moved to Mankato about 10 months ago, Tandem became my normal Saturday morning routine. The bagels are fantastic and there is a wide variety of options. They have creative and clever sandwich options that span well beyond the typical bagel shop's breakfast sandwiches. I recommend the Flying Penguin (egg salad) on a kitchen sink (everything bagel). They always ask if I would like the filling removed from my bagel to make room for my egg salad, and I always say yes! They are usually very busy so they often run out of bagel choices in the afternoon and it, at times, seems unorganized. Really though, they are just popular and regularly have a line of customers waiting. If you plan to dine in, make sure you grab a table when you see one, with it so busy, they run out quickly. Only complaint is that the space is so small. I have never had a bad experience!

I awoke from my cozy slumber in our tent and looked over to my side kick only to see him holding his stomach and a loud lionish growl erupting from his tummy. We dove out of the tent jumped into the car and peeled off towards the snowy streets of Mankato. Now where oh where to find a filling and affordable breakfast? Then low and behold, TANDEM BAGELS!! Being bagel lovers this cafe suited us just fine. It appeared cozy from the outside and inside the comforting sounds of locals talking over warm cups of coffee and a slight scent of garlic filled the air. While the breakfast menu was limited, and the toasted bagel left something to be desired; the inside a bit doughy and not enough kitchen sink on the top for our tastes, BUT! the innards of the sandwiches hit the spot! The addition of tandems delicious mustard doubled the tastiness of our bagel. Great coffee, very cute and comfortable, will definitely be back.

PRO's: Great coffee, cool modern vibe much like coffee shops in the hip parts of Montreal, quick service, friendly staff. Highly recommend the "healthy melt" - totally awesome on a sesame bagel, would also be great with the everything bagel. Bagels are delicious, fresh and I totally appreciate they are NOT huge. I for one am not interested in a one pound bagel. These are a good 4 inches across, perfect. CON's: Can you come out from behind the counter and wipe down the tables once in awhile?? Sheesh! Parking is spotty as its a downtown area so no lot but have never had to walk too far. Would give this place a solid 5 stars except for the chronically dirty tables - and I'm at this place most every Sunday morning after church so its not an exception but rather the rule.

After a nearly ten-month absence, I decided to give Tandem another try. My initial review, found below, bemoaned the weak--and often rude--customer service. This stemmed from the fact that I'd often stop by first thing in the morning--this is a bagel shop, after all--and they seemed annoyed by my patronage, too stressed out from the rigors of their opening routine. Two things have made me come to appreciate Tandem as of late: The drastic improvement in service (facilitated by some friendly new staff members), and a visit to Bixby's Bagels in Duluth, which was absolutely abysmal in comparison. Tandem's sandwiches are truly top-shelf; this is the best breakfast spot in town, at least if you're looking for something that will give you a boost rather than wreck your morning. And yeah, the counter layout / ordering process is probably always going to be awkward, but the payoff is more than worth the minor annoyance. Wholeheartedly re-endorsed.

The staff here was hopping busy, but went out of their way to make sure I was able to find something gluten free. They have super delicious oatmeal & will make any of their sandwiches on gluten free bread. The coffee was a little too sweet, but all in all, an oasis in Mankato.

I stumbled in hungover after spending my one and only night in Mankato. This place was another highlight. I got a bagel with avocado, eggs, and something else I can't remember, la bici eggel or something, but it was sublime. Only issue was it took 10 minutes to prepare, but this is the price of fresh quality. The staff were super chilled, and I got a surprise cookie in my take out bag which didn't hurt. Highly recommend.

Awesome place, Fabulous bagels and the staff is top notch. I stopped in for a quick beverage and after seeing all the beautiful bagels decided to order one of their famous cheddar jalapeño bagels with jalapeño cheddar cream cheese. Man oh man was I pleased I gave this place a visit. They only have that combo once a week. It was like nothing I have ever had before. The bagels are made fresh everyday. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Will be coming back for sure to try their sandwiches, soups and salads. Thanks Tandem bagel team for working so hard to bring fresh local ingredients to down town Mankato!

A good place downtown to grab breakfast or lunch. The bagels are excellent! I always go with a hummus sandwich on toasted Kitchen Sink. However, the layout is a little clumsy, seating is limited and the customer service can be hit or miss. They also have daily soups, salads and bakery, often specified vegan. Parking can be a hassle, but the location is convenient otherwise. The storefront looks great, too.

A welcome addition to a growing downtown. The bagels are spectacular - personally, I always get the Pizza Bagel. They have specialty bagels which reference various business and people from the area. The coffee, latte, and espresso are made fresh - amazing as well. With such a incredible coffee, I was a bit shocked to find that their Chai Tea comes from a box set and not made from scratch. Oh well. Overall, the place is amazing! The only thing I would change about it - parking! Their allotted parking is almost always filled. Err!
