I'm so sad! So much possibility, so little delivery. Let's start with the local beer - a saison, that came served with a lemon...?? I got off my beer snob high horse and moved on to the appetizer - crab cakes. AFTER we ordered our appetizer, the server remembered to tell us their were specials. A scallop app, specifically, that I would have ordered in a heartbeat. Our crab cakes were pretty good. The sauce with them was awesome. And then came the expensive disasters that were our entrees. We balked at the "food snobs" next to us who sent back their lamb, only to then hate our own food, and wish we'd had the balls to send it back. We both ordered the ribeye, with horseradish mashed potatoes, because it sounded INCREDIBLE. It was the single fattiest piece of meat I have ever laid eyes on. I used to work at a high-end steak house - so I am aware ribeye is fatty. But this was inedible. And it wasn't one, it was both of our dinners. The mashed potatoes looked as if they were squeezed from a tube, and were so dry & flavorless they couldn't begin to make up for the $26 mistake of a steak.... After reading such good reviews, I left wishing we'd just had burgers at the bar down the street...

You don't expect to find fine dining in a small town. Not pretentious but just great food. Fresh, local, simple. Excellent service. Chef and manager were out checking on everyone after the meal. Would highly recommend!

A very pleasant surprise in the small, sleepy town of Lanesboro. Went dining with a group and everyone enjoyed a great meal and we ordered a variety of dishes. They also offer great wine. Fantastic patio for dining on during the summer evening. Recommended if you are in town for a visit.

Back In Lanesboro for a short getaway vacation. Hadn't been back in town for several years, but my wife remembered a fabulous meal (she's a pork dish junkie) at Old Village Hall and insisted we eat there. The first visit, I recalled being surprised by the quality of the meal - start to finish - in such a small town restaurant, and figured we just got lucky that time. Not so. Second visit confirmed it. We enjoyed another meal that rivaled the quality of the best Twin Cities restaurants we frequent. - Tomato dill soup, rich and creamy, and a mixed greens salad with a wonderful blend (blueberries, pickled onions, sunflower seeds, etc). - Sea trout risotto with curry coconut sauce and asparagus (the trout was spicy-crisp outside, so flaky tender on the inside) - Pork tenderloin, with spatzle, rhubarb apple chutney, and horseradish sour cream (more than passed the "pork junkie" test) They didn't have bread pudding (another wife staple), but we luckily tried their apple/rhubarb brown betty (It was, after all, "Rhubarb Days" in Lanesboro). What a palate pleaser!: sweet apples, tart rhubarb topped with whipped cream and ice cream in a gooey, melt away brown betty. Even their freakin' coffee was world-class bean. I don't get it; but I'll keep coming back when I'm in town. Hope the locals realize what a treasure they have downtown. ps. Compliments to Jesse, our perfect server.

Came down to Lanesboro to see a play at the fantastic Commonweal Theater, and wanted to catch dinner beforehand. The food was pretty great - interesting specials (many featured local, wild-harvested morel mushrooms or Norwegian specialties), and a very short, but well-constructed menu. We went with a group of 6 and ordered almost everything on the menu (that's how few options there were). I am pleased to report that everything was tasty. The server was a little scatter-brained, but very friendly, and the service was prompt. I would absolutely return.

Went here just because it looked interesting- late 1800's town hall. WOW Great, locally sourced food. Tenderloin with morel mushrooms, horseradish mashed potatoes, caesar salad, all delicious. My wife had the salmon, also great. Dessert, bread pudding with home made ice cream. To top it off, great craft beers, and an excellent wine list, all reasonably priced. And the service was friendly and efficient. I'll be back!

Absolutely amazing food! The place is relaxed, which is great on a B&B retreat when you want casual. I had the special, which was the duck made perfect to medium rare. Also the sweet potato purée was cooked beautifully. My girlfriend is gluten free and the owner/chef said that most of the menu can be made gluten free which is so nice to hear in a small town. I highly recommend this restaurant.

A very nice restaurant, if not the nicest, in Lanesboro. Had lamb chops with vegetables. Had two double bone chops, 4 single chops if cut differently. Cooked medium/ medium rare. Absolutely great. Done just right. The vegetables were roasted, slightly longer that I prefer but very acceptable. The salad was fresh and crisp, with blueberries, sunflower seeds and feta(?) cheese. Excellent rolls made on site. I thought the wine list was pricey but the by the glass option was fine. The decorations in the restaurant are understated and the color combo was very nice. A real gem of a fine. Price is on the high side for rural Minnesota but I thought the food was worth the price.

We rolled into Lanesboro a few minutes late for the other places in town, but the Old Village Hall took us in 5 minutes before close. Instead of treating us demeaningly, they provided excellent service, even splitting the courses for my fiancée and I. Everything was very tasty and we left satisfied and full!

Pleasantly surprised with this place! We stopped in over the weekend on a trip through the area and I was amazed at how many people were there. We started with a jerk chicken flatbread appetizer which could have been very good except it was slightly soggy. Both our salads were great, especially my strawberry salad. For entree I tried the twice smoked pork chops and they were tremendous. Smoky and flavorful and cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the New York Strip and despite a long, drawn out explanation of exactly how she likes hers done (as usual) the steak came out overdone. Slightly under medium well SHOULD still have some pink but none could be found. We were meeting another couple to continue our trip so we didn't bother trying to get another steak. As it was it was good - but not a good as it could have been. So, 4 stars - a perfectly cooked steak and a better appetizer and this would have been 5. For the prices here I think we should be able to expect perfection.

Food was really yummy. No didn't like the jerk chicken app but that is just my opinion. I had the salmon, delicious. My husband had the steak, overcooked but still ok. I love the wine selection I would just like the server to know more about the wines to help me.

This restaurant was 5 star!!! We had the scallop appetizer and it was delicious. The salads were great and the Prosciutto chicken was amazing. My husband had sea bass and that was great too!! Chef came out and talked to us. What a great restaurant for small town!!

After an afternoon of bike riding along the Root River my cousins and I traded in our bike rentals for the Old Village Hall Patio when it opened at 5. We were all pleasantly surprised with the varietal green salad and real blue cheese dressing. We later split beef medallions, lump crab salad and large pan seared scallops. All good choices... For those who enjoy biking MN is a long way to go from the desert climate of AZ. However, if you do manage to go the biking is great for hybrid bikes along the entire twenty miles from Preston to Peterson with Lanesboro situated in the middle. The asphalt path meanders along an old train bed with numerous bridge crossings and is tree lined most of the way. If we had had an extra day the tubing looked very inviting and fun. If you visit don't miss the "Aroma Pie Shop" half way between Lanesboro and Peterson. It claims to have the world's greatest pie and the strawberry rhubarb is indeed very, very good. A disclaimer: I can not vouch for good weather in early August like we had plus no mosquitoes. However, if you have relatives in MN it doesn't hurt to at least make the request.

Outstanding food and outstanding service. Had fresh Alaskan salmon which was absolutely amazing. My wife, a vegetarian, had the chef (Mike) make her the chef's choice for a veggie meal. This was also amazing! Service was great. Excellent beer/wine list. Will be back here for sure.

Born and raised in Lanesboro and never ate in some of the restaurants until a recent trip back. Too many good things to eat at relative's houses, usually. Went for dinner on a Friday night. The place was fairly busy but service was prompt and darn well adequate. We sat outside on the deck, so I haven't seen the upstairs dining room. I had their pork tenderloin plate and others with me had chicken and beef. All were nicely cooked and nicely done. Before that I had tomato soup that was just right. Plenty of choices from the bar; wine, beer, and liquor. The owner came around and talked with us for a bit and seemed to be making sure everything was OK. It was.

After a day of biking in the cold we headed to Lanesboro for dinner. Very cute restaurant on the outside, two story with the bar on the first level and dining area on the second level. we did not have reservations but happen to get in right away (7:45pm). It was packed! We both went with the specials they offered. Me- whitefish kabobs with sausage and a pickled carrot/beet salad. Him- Grand Marais Herring with local broiled acorn squash and mashed potatoes. Finished it off with devil brownie and vanilla ice cream dessert. YUMMY! Entrees were $20 and appetizers $6-$10. Would definitely recommend. beware most restaurants close at 9pm.
