I would go out of my way to eat here again. Joyce runs the place and it's as much worth the visit to meet her as it is to taste the food, which was amazing. She's a hoot and a legend in her domain. The food was amazing, despite that she had FOUR EMPLOYEES NOT SHOW UP. She was basically doing everything solo and as we looked around and saw how patient everyone was being, we came to the conclusion that it must be worth the wait. Later we found out that the delay was due to her being alone but it was amazing nonetheless. I got the ribs and beans and they were incredible.

Excellent St. Louis ribs! As the owner says there is nothing low fat, diet or healthy about the food. It is all homemade, home cooked and home smoked in the pit out back. Sit down, enjoy and bring a BIG appetite! You won't be disappointed.

Driving thru town around lunch time and found a gem! Awesome pork sandwich & steak fries. Will need to try the chicken & ribs another time. Well worth the stop!

Want really good barbecue? This is definitely it. What a gem is this hole-in-the-wall right on the border of Ironton and Crosby. They've got chili, catfish, coney islands and more but you're here for the fried chicken and the ribs. Menu includes baby back, Texas style, country style, St. Louis style and more. If you try to order anything but St. Louis style you'll get an argument from the waitress and she's right. They're tender, juicy and delicious. Plus the full order is good for a full lunch the next day. I usually don't order combos at BBQ joints but this time I got the 1/2 chicken and half order of ribs. A great choice.

The ribs are good but everything else came out of the microwave. I know this because I watched it come out. I'll go back but I'll only get the ribs with nothing else.

Delicious but a little crazy. Don't fight it if you're in the area. Go for the ribs you won't regret it.

Good St. Louis style ribs, some of the better I've had in the upper midwest. Place is tiny small, 4-5 tables? They don't serve beer, but looks like BYOB is ok if your discrete as of Nov 2012.

Wow - looking for a place to eat after riding the new mtn bike trails at cuyuna - driving down the street we saw a couple of sketch bars that might have food - and then ran across a building with FLAMES all over it. Looks awesome - why not? So glad we went in. Learned about how the ribs are made - its definitely a process. Everything was amazing. We learned the proper way to eat Jojos - split down the middle and then you put sour cream in it and then you put the horseradish type sauce on top of that - yeah - it was good! We ordered the catfish bites for an app - impressive. And then ordered the full rack of st louis ribs and the jerk chicken (which i remember correctly is a half a chicken) - someone's eyes were definitely bigger than their stomach!! The ribs were excellent. The jerk chicken was good, but I prefer mine jamaican style - not fried - and more of a rub on them than a bbq sauce, but still tasty none the less. Please please please - GO HUNGRY!

The food is outright terrible. I had ribs and chicken. The ribs tasted like they were microwaved or boiled but definitely not smoked. The bbq sauce is comparable to sweet baby rays or worse. The chicken was even worse than the ribs. They took some sort of fried and battered chicken (likely pre-cooked and frozen) and soaked it in some kind or god awful sauce that tastes like a hippy's armpit.

Dinner AND a show? I'm going with my own proprietary rating system here, so deal with it. Food: 4 out of 5 Owner: 1 out of 5 (more on that later) I had the St. Louis ribs, Texas toast, and the Bacon Mac and Cheese. All were delicious. Ribs: Tender, great balance of smoky flavor and tangy sauce. Not too dry, not too soft. Just right. Pull apart with your fingers, and eat up. Texas Toast: light and wonderful, and had a great flavor for just just being "toast". I ate all of it and did not fill up on bread as I am wont to do sometimes. Mac and Cheese: Cooked perfectly, and just the right amount of bacon and cheese. Super good. Would have eaten much more. Owner: Wasted. Like, drunk as hell, or having a bad reaction to medications. Not sure what one. Added quite a bit of irony to the "help wanted but if you get high, don't apply" sign on the front door. After she made another patron *bring her* an empty chair from their table so she could sit down with us she started by taking us on a well-intentioned "tour" of the menu going over the various options.... It was downhill from there. She was hard to understand, slurring things, kept forgetting what she was talking about, and kept saying really awkward things. I'll spare the all the details because I feel pretty bad for her. It ended with her taking our order, and then staggering off down the sidewalk (almost falling off once) and the cook coming out to have us translate the ticket because "she has bad handwriting" Right. It was really, really awkward. She's either got a huge drinking problem, or whatever medications she's taking need to be adjusted. Now, the reason I'm putting this up at all is because the staff seemed to be sort of used to it, and that's kind of a problem...and in reading past reviews where people said she was nice and helpful make me wonder what's up. To be totally clear, she was never rude or angry toward us, and she seemed like she could be a pretty nice person...if she was not loaded on something. I hope she gets the help she needs, and I would love to be able to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was having a bad day or something like that. Oh, and they charge for water. Getting a cup is not an option, and you can only get it in a bottle. That kinda sucks.

If this place was in the Twin Cities, it would be huge. Beyond huge. We decided to eat lunch here on a whim today, and I'm glad we did. The St. Louis style ribs were delicious. The fried chicken was juicy an the perfect level of crispness. And the jojo's? Apparently I've been eating them wrong my whole life. The owner (and also chef/waitress) showed me the error of my ways. She split it (like a baked potato) and filled it with sour cream and a generous squirt of their homemade horseradish sauce. It was to die for. The building itself is just how you want a BBQ joint to be- homey, relaxed and unpretentious. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone in the area or to anyone from Minneapolis/St. Paul looking to take a day trip. I know I'll be back!

This place makes very good bbq. The ribs are St. Louis Style and they are not drowning in sauce. Are they as good as mine? Nope. Would I get them again? Probably not as I thought they were a little expensive($24+) and I think I smoke a better rib. Would I go back? For sure as they have an entire assortment of sandwiches that they also do. In addition, their broasted chicken is also pretty tasty.

This little place is a gem you don't often find in dinky little towns like crosby-ironton. I've been coming here off and on for years, back when it had a different name, Big Mike's or something. The lady running it now was running it then. Ribs here are good, Jo-Jo's good, really everything is quite good. I like the ribs but I have often stopped in here and gotten takeout, usually a shredded chicken sandwich or pork. You gotta try it. I've also been to a couple events that were catered by this place, they do a fairly decent job, better than famous dave's, which I've also experienced. The lady that runs the joint is very nice, and will happily answer any questions you could ever have about her food. Like I said, this place is a gem. Puts the chain places like famous dave or dickey's to shame.

Read about this place in the Mpls/St.Paul magazine. They were right. Possibly the best St. Louie ribs I ever had! Typically, baby backs are my favorite, but after a delightful conversation with the owner....well who am I to question the cook? I suggest the combo with chicken. The chicken is AMAZING. This is no chain resturant folks..this is the way little restaurants use to be. It feels like sitting at the owner's kitchen table, enjoying great food and conversation. Hours later...I am still smiling.

Coming back from Big Fork and wanted a good place to eat that wasn't a bar. We found this place and it was a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent. We had the ST Louis ribs n the chicken was crispy. Honestly, everything was good and I highly recommend stopping by. The owner was super helpful which was a treat! My husband and I are visiting from San Diego and loved it. Cone check it out!!!

Recent publicity brought me into this local establishment where my family has had good success. First off, it's quite small and very informal. The owner is sure to give you a thorough review of their cooking process, and how it compares favorably to similar 'chain' operations. Service is attentive. The night we were there, the Bones were finishing-up a very large catering order (something they do a lot of) so the food was pretty slow for those in the dining hall. No problem. I enjoyed the home-style atmophere. Ribs were good (not necessarily great) and reasonably priced. It's nice to have something like this in town ... without having to drive to Brainerd for everything!
