First off The Blacksmith isn't fancy in any shape or form. It's been there as long as I can remember. My father owned a trucking company a mile down the road so I basically grew up in this place. I came in tonight for the first time in more than 20 years. Nothing has changed including the staff. If you need anything more than a great meal at a great price this is not your place, however, if you love a great dive bar with terrific food The Blacksmith is right up your alley. I ordered the Porterhouse with hash browns and my wife had the Thursday dinner special which was the broasted chicken. My steak was a touch over cooked, but, was delicious and at $22 it was the best value I've had in a very long time! The real star here was the chicken!!! Crispy, flavorful, and amazingly juicy. Sides were excellent as well and the blue cheese dressing on the salad was homemade and terrific. When the bill came for 5 of us (4 adults and one child) the total with drinks was $90! If you live in the Hugo/Forest Lake/White Bear Lake area you MUST give The Blacksmith a try. Don't listen to the bad reviews. I own two 4.5 star Yelp restaurants in Omaha, NE and I love this place! It's always busy and you shouldn't be in a hurry. Take your time have a cocktail and enjoy!

Well I heard this was just as good as Mississippi chicken down south and it was pretty good but not worth waiting 30 minutes getting it to go. This place reminds me of a barn with no windows converted in to a restaurant but had nice patrons to talk to while waiting.

There's two things in life that you can't screw up... Eggs & a Burger. This place has managed to prove me wrong on 1/2 of that. Twice. When you come up on this place do yourself a favor and keep driving to the next joint..

Good burger's and chicken... Usually always overly busy during dinner time. kind of slow service and and the place feels cramped. Pick up orders are a little slow and when dining in the cups and plates and bowls seem very outdated. but overall good place to eat.

The service is minimal and it goes downhill at the the bar, if you are a regular you are gold for service but except to wait if they know you are a stranger. This is no more than a piss stop or a burger if your real hungry but keep this one in your harley mirrors.

Wow! Better than expected! I have lived in Forest Lake for 19 years, but never stepped foot into the Blacksmith. Why? Well, I hate to admit it but the outside looks a bit intimidating - no windows, lots of motorcycles. Finally, last Saturday Hubby and I decided to give it a try...as soon as we walked we felt as if we had been transported into a bygone era. This place has a very rustic small-town vibe to it. Saw a lot of single folk, but also a lot of families and large groups. Not at all pretentious. It was super busy, but the service is top-notch - very organized and well-run. Friendly staff. Incredible food! And yes, the salads are a bit quirky with the goldfish crackers and the one cucumber slice - but that's what sets places like Blacksmith apart. We both had the broasted chicken which is to die for! Large portions - enough to bring some back home. Can't wait to go back and try the steak!

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT expect anything fancy here. It's a dive - not a window to be found in the place and has a liquor store attached. The "salad" is served in those little old school wood bowls and water in those weird, pebbled red cups. BUT. The food is good! The broasted chicken is great (as long as it's not over done) and the horseshoe burger is good. My brother usually gets the fish 'n chips and it looks good. Salad dressing (blue cheese) is good with big chunks of cheese. And the portions are great - half a chicken, fries, toast and salad for under $10. You can't beat that!!

We sat and waited at a table by the bar for 10 minutes. I guess the waitress that watched us sit down and looked at us several times didn't see us fit to be served. Bummer, we had plans to stop here next week too :/

Best chopped steak I have ever had, and its not the only good thing on the menu. I have ordered a lot on the menu and it has never been anything but great. The waitresses are usually very rude, but it doesn't matter, the food is great. I don't smoke but I miss when you could smoke in this bar. Back then it was the epitome of a dirty dingy bar that was a great place to go to.

Nothing fancy and the best cut of beef for the cash. We usually have the 22oz sirloin for two which is too much steak to finish for us. The broasted chicken is the bomb. The owner George is a pleasure to talk to. If you want exceptional food and value, come here.

I eat here too much. Consistent quality, Great value, Good service. Get the boasted chicken or horseshoe burger.

Great dive restaurant to bring the family, The food here is fantastic. Broasted chicken is a must and at under $7 for a whole meal with salad and all you can't beat it. Used to be pretty cloudy there at night due to smoke, Obviously that has stopped, good or bad, i'll leave that up to you.
