Love Hoagies. This is our go-to breakfast restaurant. The food is excellent and you can't beat the prices. Service is always friendly and welcoming.

Small town diner, excellent service and awesome food. I've had breakfast and lunch there and the portions are great and everything is homemade. If you have lunch, get the homemade french fries! The prices are unbeatable. Check it out if you're in Hopkins. The place could use a face lift in terms of decor on the inside, perhaps that will happen once construction in the area is complete.

BRING CASH. Serious diner style breakfast. Very inexpensive prices. You might have to wait in line on the weekend. The front windows/walls are so thin that winter comes right inside. I would seriously consider wearing extra layers if you visit in the coldest winter months. The bathroom door has worn down so thin in the area that people put their hand on the wooden door - you might see through it. Sure this place is older than I am, but some basic upkeep would be welcomed. The food was exactly what the hangover doctor ordered. Runny eggs, bacon, and that o'so tasty hash browns I just can't seem to make the same at home. All delivered minutes after ordering by a fast and friendly wait staff. The prices are very reasonable, much less than heading to my standard breakfast fare location of The Original Pancake house. Overall, will I be back? Absolutely because I know a deal when I see one, and you can't find this diner style hash'slingin breakfast anywhere else in the area that I am aware of. If you don't mind a bit run down, you'll love it here!

Diner on Main Street in Hopkins. Menu is limited to typical breakfast items and burgers/sandwiches. Service was friendly. Eggs, bacon and pancakes were all tasty and good size portions. Very reasonable prices for the portion size. Decor a little dated, but hey it's a diner and isn't trying to deliver ambiance. Can't speak to the non breakfast part of menu since our entire party had breakfast.

Hoagie's is amazing! I have to say it is my new favorite diner (which is a big deal coming from this avid Key's enthusiast). My boyfriend recently discovered this place and we stopped in for a late Sunday brunch today. I was nothing short of impressed with the entire experience. The service was great and the food was extremely cheap, fast and delicious. I have to say, though, that the retro decor was my favorite part of it all. I'm a sucker for the old-school feels. I will definitely be going back again very soon. Amazing, just amazing!

This place is great! Be transported back in time and away from the urban environment in this wonderful diner. Oh, and bring cash. Hopkins business owners tend to dislike newfangled plastic. So what could be better on a cold, wet day that comfort food? The specials were fried chicken, split pea soup, and hot turkey. I had the hot turkey which is a bunch of sliced turkey topped with bread, topped with mashed potatoes and gravy just the way they did in my little home town years ago. They have loads of cool old advertisements with funny slogans such as: "There are no bad vegetables, only misunderstood ones." The counter with the stools is definitely vintage. The service was super fast and they help each other out. Like any good diner, they have regulars they know by name. If you haven't been, you simply must go!

This place is old school. Truly old school. I'm down with old school, but I also like a place to have a nice buzz of underlying energy (i.e. it's at least somewhat busy and full of life). From my two visits to Hoagies, that buzz is missing. In fact, it's so quiet during a weekday breakfast that I feel like I should converse in a hushed voice. Downtown Hopkins is very sleepy on a weekday morning at 7 am. Quiet atmosphere withstanding, the two old timers sitting at the front counter were talking loud enough for me to hear their entire conversation from 10 feet away. Perhaps some background music would help offset some of their banter about the ills of foreign automobiles. The food itself is respectable - especially at this low price point. Basic, hearty meals here. Meat, eggs, toast, and pancakes. The coffee was sub-par; if it was on par with Good Day Cafe or Original Pancake House, I would give Hoagies a 4-star review. Friendly service, down-home feel.

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time to the 1960's, and you're hungry for a great breakfast, look no further than Hoagie's in downtown Hopkins. The food is fresh and prepared well. The service is solid. The wait staff wants you to become a regular and they treat you like it. The chairs, booths, and benches are old and uncomfortable, though. The prices are low. This is a great American value. They don't take credit cards or checks. It's a cash only kind of place.

Looking for the hole in the wall diner! This is it!! Mom and pop shop, open for breakfast and lunch only, same locals each day eating in their same spots, love this place! It's cheap but great food, cash only, but there's an ATM if you use those things ;) So many wonderful simple selections, breakfast burrito is my favorite!

Stepping into this place is like stepping off a time machine into a malt shop in the 50's. They haven't changed the decor since Dr Emmett Brown conceptualized the flux capacitor! (BTW: people were shorter back then. The chairs and booths are closer to the floor than standard seating in most restaurants.) I sat at the counter, removed my leather jacket and tucked my Marlboros under my white t-short. Before I could comb my hair back, my server slapped a glass of water in front of me and asked if I was ready for a drink order. He suggested the Patti melt, and I replied with "that's great, daddy-o!" The service was as fast as my switchblade during a battle with the Sharks. I left satiated and paid in cash. No plastic or checks allowed in this joint. The only thing missing from this place is a Wurlitzer juke box.

Basic diner breakfast & lunch is what they do. They do it well, but not necessarily the best. I was in for breakfast and got my usual 2 eggs OE, HB, WW dry. The waitress wasn't sure if I had said wheat or white, so I appreciated her asking instead of assuming. After a good five minutes the breakfast appeared and the order was just as ordered. It is amazing how many places have a hard time filling an order for DRY wheat toast. The coffee cup was kept topped off throughout the meal. Here is where they excel - PRICE. My order was $4.35, and the coffee was $1.30 since I had food ($1.50 otherwise). The eggs and toast were done very well. The downfall was the hashbrowns. While somewhat crisp they may have sat too long in the window before being served so that the potatoes were not as crisp as they could have been. They also had a large quantity of oil in them. The portion of hashbrowns was huge but they sure left a ton of grease on the plate. The coffee was not the best, but at that price I didn't expect top shelf. Will I be back? Hell yes. The place is a good place for a cheap breakfast but don't expect any frills or haute cuisine.

I really like this place. Take a seat and you are transported four hours north. The waitress (yes, waitress, not server) knew most of the customers by name. Walls covered with nostalgia that is likely real, not the fake flair you see in other places. Real old school charm, service and menu. Very reasonable prices. Food is solid "comfort food." I hate that term, but it is what it is. It's not going to blow you away, it's just dependable good food. My only question: Where are the slices of pie? Every diner needs slices of pie. If you want a small town diner experience, this is your spot.

Hoagies is a trip back in time, and I love it. It's like going to an old time dinner in rural minnesota, but it's in hopkins! They don't even take credit cards! Good food, nice service. I recommend the pumpkin pancakes if in season.

Moving to Hopkins in 2010, I really didn't expect anything different than any other suburb. I was wrong. One walk down Hopkins' Main Street and you'll feel as if you transported back in time 50 years. Antique shops, small businesses, and cafes line the street. People wave hello, and you'll actually get a generous helping of REAL "Minnesota Nice" (unlike the kind you may have gotten from the road-ragers elsewhere in our state). A few years back a friend invited me to breakfast and suggested Hoagie's as the destination. The food wasn't anything spectacular, but I was intrigued by the charming decor and retro vibe. Don't be surprised if the waitress calls you "honey." :) Prices are beyond reasonable, although make sure to bring cash or a check (a CHECK, you say?)--yes, they still operate the old way. Told ya it was a step back in time. Next time you're in Hopkins, check out Hoagie's. And if you're lucky enough to be here in the summer, make sure to stop for the world-famous Raspberry Festival.

Went here for a business lunch earlier this week and was pleasantly surprised. I had never been here before (even though I live only a couple of miles away) and was very impressed! I am a big fan of diner food and loved the retro atmosphere--it reminded me a lot of the small town diners that I grew up with. The service and prices were excellent--a much better deal (and tastier) than any of the fast food chains!

This is a very casual and laid back, diner and family restaurant. The sandwiches include burgers, fish sandwich, fried egg, grilled cheese, etc. The sandwiches are served with side of chips and pickles. The fish sandwich comes with slaw. The fish sandwich is really tasty and enormous. They have homemade soup, and the fries and onion rings, especially, are delicious. The homemade cinnamon roll was dry and not my favorite. The service was very friendly. The ambience is cozy and made me feel like I was in Mel's diner back in the 1970's. This is a cheap restaurant to get your fill of delicious, home cooked food. Cash only, if you have none, there is an ATM.

Remember small town cafe's, the kind where the water smelled really good (probably fluoride) and the menu was simple, things like burgers, blt's, club sandwiches, egg salad, etc.? Well, they aren't extinct yet, simply endangered. They sell breakfast all day long, another nod to their old school heritage. The vinyl covered seats with some broken springs simply add to the ambiance. Downtown Hopkins bends the space/time continuum, and Hoagie's is just one more example of a throw back place in this cool little downtown.

This place is straight out of the 70s in the best way. The service is fast and efficient and the food is no nonsense good. We had breakfast on a Friday morning. The coffee was a nice mellow blend and the eggs were cooked to perfection. We got out of there for $15 with tip.
