Yay for a new place to eat in Duluth. We came in for lunch today and were very excited to check it out. I've been to a Dickey's before and I have not been as impressed as I am now. The people up front were extremely friendly. They made great recommendations and were extremely helpful. Even the customers were super excited about being here and seemed super happy which makes a big difference in the whole experience. The food was super good and it was nice to have a rack of ribs that were cooked right. They were not too fatty and they were not over seasoned. The green beans had a fresh taste to them that was just awesome and at the end of the meal there was free ice cream. I will be back. It was a great meal.

For those of you who know me know how much I love hamburgers...but you also know that right behind hamburgers is BBQ. I know Dickey's Barbecue Pit is a chain restaurant but I had a hankering for BBQ and this place fir the bill. I have never been to a Dickey's before, but I must admit I was excited for some BBQ and the smell of the place when I walked in was amazing. I ordered a BBQ brisket and got some sides of coleslaw and baked potato casserole. I planned on putting the coleslaw on the sandwich to make my own Carolina style sandwich and was instantly disappointed by how bland the coleslaw was. The brisket sandwich was really good but I feel like the coleslaw was so bland it actually sucked the flavor out of the sandwich. I would recommend eating the sandwich sans coleslaw unless you enjoy eating something that makes cardboard taste flavorful. The baked potato casserole was very good, We were surprised to see they had free small ice cream cones that were self serve. We all got ice cream, which was pretty good, and headed on our way. I recommend Dickey's to anyone looking for some solid BBQ in a pinch and I also recommend you don't order the coleslaw. With so many other options available for you to choose this shouldn't be a problem. I give Dickey's 3 Doubledays.

Very disappointed. I love the one in North Branch and was excited about this one. This one is not the same. I got drive thru and watched the guy mince my brisket into oblivion after I asked for it sliced. (Chopped or sliced are the menu options so it wasn't a wild request) then I watched him pick up some meat wrapped in plastic (where my meat had originated from) and sniff it, and then he made a face, like it smelled bad. At this point I decide I am probably going hungry tonight. To add insult to injury, during the order, the guy asked what I'd like to drink, like it came with, then charged me $2 bucks for it. He then Brought me the wrong kind but caught it before giving it to me. Then when he came back he confirmed it was the kind I asked for. Great! I pulled away a little shocked at everything but was in no mood to complain about the meat sniffing, so I just left and didn't eat it. At least I had the pop, one swig confirmed he never bothered to get the correct one and just knowingly gave me the wrong one. All the little stuff is usually not worth even remembering, but this is a place that says they have fresh smoked meat, except what they actually serve seems to be wrapped in plastic for long enough to smell bad. So I wanted to explain how almost every aspect of this place seems to be a little off. Rant over.

We ordered the sandwich beet brisket plate with two sides . $10.25 each . The sides where brought to us one at a time . Then comes a tray with just the beef brisket sandwich on each tray . I hadn't not even tasted it yet , then here comes the girl again and brings another tray with just a small bit of meat in it ( two little prices ). I couldn't understand or hear why. Then I take a bite and found its all dried out . Our sandwhich were made from. The burnt outside of the meat . I went and told the girl this . She said that's why we were given the two little pieces of extra meat . Omg !! I told her I can't even chew the meat and would ,Ike a new one. I was told I would have to tell the cook! Hmmm the line to talk to him is now 10 people long. I told her that's her job! Waited 10 min then asked if it was ready. Till person says no I didn't tell him yet he is waiting on a pile of people . Then she goes and tells him and he says. I gave them that extra meat because of that ! There was no boss , manager around when I asked ! also the loaded baked potatoe side I had was dried out . Ice cream machine was out also.

The place was clean, and the staff was nice. However our food did not taste very good. My husband and I are extremely disappointed. And we will not be going back.

Dickey's has great slow smoked brisket and fantastic pulled pork. The real reason we went is for the ribs. These guys know how to make ribs. End of story.

First off. This particular one isn't as good as the one in the twin cities. Pretty disappointed. Our order: Half rack of ribs. I don't think they were grilled but oven baked as they looked microwaved. Also hearing employee say to another they were out of smoke. What does that tell you. They had no sauce on them like the ones in the cities. Not very good. Frozen precooked ones were better. No smoke ring at all. Gross. Brisquet sandwiches. I'll say the brisket was good even though the entire staff got our order mixed up. The buns were plainly ok. Seemed old. Sides of Mac were cold. Baked smoke beans were disgusting. I think they put liquid smoke in them. One bite, and a nope. Getting my order mixed up , etc I won't be going back. I'm a foodie, and a master at the charcoal grill. These people working this chain in Hermantown are doing something wrong or are mismanaged. This is McDonald's of BBQ. And it's a real shame. Duluth is in dire need of some quality BBQ or any quality restaurants. A 10 year old could make their food their. Try it once. If you know decent BBQ, you will know what I'm talking about. Shame on them. I'll cook my ribs at home thank you. Waste of money. Make sure folks to hit the one in the cities going to valley fair. You will see what I mean if they are still good. These guys are a joke and I give them through next summer if they don't get their poop in a group.

We went here about a month ago on a Saturday night, shortly after it opened. I am struggling between 3 and 4 stars. Based on our one visit I have to go with 3. I rate places on a scale according to what it is. I don't rate a place like this on the same scale I do a fine dining place or casual full service... It depends on what it is and I put this in the fast food category. It's very small. Designed more for take out. We got there between 7:30 and 8 pm and business was very steady. Dining area was maybe 1/3 full the entire time and many take outs. It was pretty chilly in there. They need to crank up the heat for the customers comfort, not the staff's. Especially with the door constantly opening right on the diners which is not great for a restaurant. Might be the opposite in the summer. Husband ordered the 1 Meat plate. We asked what the difference was between that and the Quarter Plate and the guy, an owner, had a hard time explaining. He just stammered. Never did get an answer. The menu says this: The Quarter Plate Choose one meat along with two delicious homestyle sides - comes w/ a buttered roll. $8.95. The 1 Meat Plate Choose one meat along with two delicious homestyle sides- comes w/ a buttered roll. $10.50 We assumed the 1 Meat Plate might have more meat. ow much more we do not know! He chose brisket with baked potato casserole and Fried Onion Tanglers for his sides. I ordered the Big BBQ Sandwich Plate with pulled pork The plate means it comes with 2 sides. $9.95 I chose Bacon Green Beans and Mac N Cheese. The food (especially the meat) was quite good but not hot enough. Barely warm. We don't want it microwaved either! Also, our meats (brisket and pork) were not very smokey at all. :( No sign of a smoke ring. Both tasted much more oven roasted than slow smoked. All the sides were really quite good and tasted homemade with one exception. My green beans. They were canned and very smokey which I don't much care for. The smoke flavor was supposed to come from the bacon (which I love) but instead the smoke flavor tasted more chemical to me. Like fake liquid smoke. Hubby like it tho. The onion tanglers are very thin sliced deep fried onions and are a bit greasy as expected. He felt the portion size of the meat could have been bigger for the price. My pulled pork came on a regular size burger bun. With my sides I had enough to eat and I wasn't all that hungry to start, but for a $6 sandwich it is small. Meat portions could be slightly better. I think they had 2 or 3 BB sauces. One sweet, one smokey and one hot I think. I won't talk about those. BBQ sauces are so personal to each person. I was satisfied with the one I chose (sweet) and I don't use much anyway. He by far is the BBQ connoisseur in our house. They are open only til 9 pm every night. They do have drive up I believe. I definitely think they should stay open later til at least 10 or even much later as other fast food places, because I think people here really want another fast food option and everyone loves BBQ. They have a great location in a rapidly developing area. We will definitely be back to see how things improve. It is great to see a new quick food option in the area! We have plenty burgers and Mexican!
