This is a hidden gem, hard to find but very much worth the hunt. We came here for a Friday night which is there rib night, while they last which is always a great way to have a rib night. I will say I am a bit of a rib snob and don't always order them when out knowing in most cases I will be disappointed. This did not disappoint, they are great. Nice and tender, sweet homemade sauce and a little spice. Since then we have been back and tried the pizza which is the bomb! They have a Ruben pizza which was fantastic, taco pizza is very good and then the meat pizza rocks as well. Great service, great location, great little treat and a nice drive to get there! KT

My wife is a Managing Partner, and I am a Regional Director for a very high volume restaurant concept. This is our and our 6 year old daughter's favorite restaurant to patronize regularly. We love the people, the food, the atmosphere, and the way we are treated each time we dine here. Obviously I wish it weren't so busy, but you can't fault a business for being so successful and consistent. Anyone that gives fewer stars for that reason should have their commenting privileges revoked. Keep up the amazing work!

Love the ribs here! Excellent food selection and everything mom used to make available. Large portions and friendly service in a homey atmosphere makes this place a must stop if in the area!

Don't go there! It's too crowded as it is......just kidding. It is crowded but worth the wait. The pizza is great, the meatloaf sandwich will change your life! Never had a bad meal there. Service also is always great as well.

Okay, I live in this little town now and have been here at least 20 times. FOOD= always fantastic! Never have I had a complaint! Everything, including and especially pizza is fabulous! Prime rib, my favorite! SERVICE=never disappoints! Friendly and fast! Why not 5 stars?= ITS PACKED, all the time! The place has way outgrown their space and frankly, it makes eating there sometimes uncomfortable! We went there for Mother's Day brunch.... It was a nightmare! They didn't take reservations and tried to pack too many people in that space for a buffet! Literally ruined my day. Same goes for regular weekends, almost unbearably tight. Actually seems chaotic. Just a hard place to go for a quiet dinner and relax. It actually does make me avoid going there even though I love their food and its 2 mins from my house! They need to revamp their space, seating system, or relocate.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience at River Inn. The service was sublime, the food fantastic, and the confines quaint and comfortable. We stopped in early on a Tuesday night (on the advice of others) and were glad we did so, since this place gets packed in a hurry. I can definitely see and taste why! We started off with cheese curds for an app, with a Sam Adams Cold Snap for myself and a cucumber press for my prettier half. It was a large plate of deep fried gooey goodness served up with a side of marinara, though I prefer them with my personal favorite fruit dip--ye olde catsup. Pretty decent curds. For entrées, I had the Grandma Ruth's prime rib with tots and my wife went with the teriyaki chicken sandwich and fries. The menu says the prime rib is a 10-12 oz. cut served open-faced on sourdough so I guess I was picturing more of a sandwich, but was pleasantly surprised that it actually comes out like any other prime rib entree; on a plate with a side of buttered sourdough toast, a cup of au jus, horseradish dip, and the awesome thin tater tots that are like Taco John's potatoe oles. You are even given the choice of how you want your horseradish: creamy or coarse. It was probably one of the 5 best meals I've eaten in years, and at $16.99, certainly the least expensive. My other dining mates thoroughly enjoyed their teriyaki chicken and French dip sandwiches. I got to sample the French dip and onion rings and they too were dang delicious. The service was excellent as we were greeted by practically everyone working there when we walked in. Our waitress was on the ball and knew the beer, cocktail, and food menu front to back, making recommendations based on our uncertain partially expressed desires. She was attentive without hovering and didn't miss a thing. With a combo of service and food this good, we will definitely be making the trek back over and over again. Well done, River Inn!

Large menu, sandwiches, burgers, salads, wraps, pizza. Have a lunch buffet as well. Best Oriental Chicken Salad I've ever had. They offer tater tots as a side with chipotle dipping sauce. YUM!!!!

Everyone loves this one. Has one of the best reputations in the area. Very family freindly for a bar/resturant type of place. Great pizzas. I try to go on the early or late side of dinner as prime time probably means a wait. Always freindly service.

Super quaint and cute. Friendly service, tasty food and you MUST try the Cucumber Press! The perfect summer drink - fresh, crisp, and dangerous!

I almost hate to write a glowing review because the place is already always so busy, but you know what? Of the five star reviews I've written, this may be the most deserving. The River Inn isn't big. It isn't centrally located (unless you live in the northwest outer ring). And it isn't flashy or fancy in looks. What it IS, is incredibly good on every level you'd want your dining experience to be. The servers have, without fail, been incredible. Attentive in every sense of the word and beyond friendly to the point that you genuinely feel welcome in the establishment. The food has always been tasty. I'd legitimately put anything they serve in my mouth. Last time we dined, the power was out. Did that stop them? NOPE! We ate delicious onion rings and chicken wraps and whathaveyou by the romantic light of our iPhones. It was a really cool experience! This place has become a traditional birthday meeting place for my in-law side of the family and now I wish we had more people to celebrate so I'd have an excuse to go cram that tasty goodness in my face more often!

This is our "go-to" place. Service is amazing. There is nothing we have tried on the menu that isn't great! Pizza is to die for. Salads and sandwiches are amazing! No matter how long the drive.... Do it! It is worth it!

I have dined at the River Inn twice and both times have been an exceptional experience. They have a diverse menu with a dish to please just about anyone. The owner is so sweet. You can tell her and her staff enjoy their jobs as the service is outstanding. A very charming restaurant that we plan on returning to many more times in the future. A real gem!

Like others, I hesitate to give a rave review, only because this place is frequently packed to the gills. This is the closest restaurant to my house and for this I am grateful. I have been there many times and never a disappointment. Be prepared for a wait if you come here on a Friday or Saturday evening. The food is some of the best I've tasted and this excellent dining experience stems from the fact that the service is unusually impeccable. Pizzas and prime rib are staples. Also haven't had a burger there that I didn't love. The history of the building only adds to the charm of the dining experience. Updated outdoor seating area is a big plus, too. This place refuses to disappoint!

The only reason they don't get 5 stars is the place has outgrown their traffic. It has a poor waiting area(hallway in front of the door and restroom) but the food is worth the trouble. I have been going here for nearly 15 years and remember when you could walk right in the front door and grab a seat. Not that you won't get seated but everyone else figured out how great the food is. The service is top notch. My wife loves their pizza and I can't help but order the "Tin Man". They are very kid friendly, every time we get a pizza to go I bring my son and they always talk with him and offer little treats.

Food is spectacular! My favorite is the J Burger. Comes with a huge amount of fries that are delicious. Place is always busy Friday through Sunday. So make sure to be there early!!! Very small area, but my god do they have some good food. You HAVE to check this place out. So worth it!!

This is a review of the pizza and to go service only. We ordered pizza. They took the credit card over the phone, which was nice because it was SUPER busy there. They said 15 minutes on the phone. I got there about 20 minutes later and waited another 10 minutes there. They brought my pizza to me outside. Everyone was friendly and it was a very popular place. The pizza is pretty good, too. The box got a little soggy in the car but nothing awful. They also got our pizza order 100% correct. Whenever I am in town and need food, I'll be back. Thanks!

I come from Florida to this area once a year to visit my daughter. And ALWAYS insist on going to the River Inn. By far the best prime rib in the country. The staff go out of their way to be sure that diners are given excellent service while being treated like family. I just wonder if the owner would like to move to Florida.

River Inn is the "Cheers" of Hanover -- it is the local hangout, and for good reason. The food is always good, no matter what you get. The service is wonderful, the owners and wait staff extremely attentive and friendly. The only downside is that people from all over are discovering it, more often than not there is a wait for a table -- which says it all. Hanover is lucky to have the River in our community!

Small town gem with excellent food and incredible service! The River Inn does not disappoint. My fiancé had the veggie quesadilla which was very fresh with great flavors. I had the prime rib dinner and it was phenomenal! Servers were friendly and perfectly attentive. Thanks river inn for a truly spectacular experience!

The River Inn never disappoints. Hands down, there is not a close second, to the R.I. in the area. Good food, good atmosphere, excellent service.

Hidden gem. Prime rib is excellent. Pizza is served on a tray and is very good. Rib special with corn on the cob is a fav. Get there early as it is always busy (for a good reason).

River Inn is the best bar and grill ever! Everything I've eaten there was delicious and fresh. The staff is incredibly friendly but not overbearing. I highly recommend any of the wraps--they are just the right size (not those humongous things you see other places) and the ratio of ingredients is just right. I'm not a big Long Island Iced Tea drinker, but River Inn makes the absolute best Long Islands I've ever had. Have two and you will be in a great mood (and you might need to get a ride home). I wish there was a River Inn in my neighborhood.

Not a bad place to eat at. Simple atmosphere, quaint but can get busy. The burgers were decent but a tad too rare so order more done. The only real food worth buying are their ribs. Additionally, their tap selection is pretty limited and I felt was a tad watered down. However, they have more available in a bottle. The service really lacked a bit as well.

When I lived out in the sticks - this place was my sanity. The food is super traditional - shrimp, prime rib, BBQ ribs and burgers - but they do it RIGHT. Honestly - I would leave from work early so I could get there before 5:30 some Friday's before they ran out of ribs - and I don't eat a lot of meat let alone meat on bones. They fall off the bone, the sauce is perfect. It comes with potato, veg, salad or soup and breadstick. All for like $16!!!! Burgers, sandwiches and shrimp also rock the house. On weekends this place will be PACKED - it's small but worth the long wait. It's ok because the drinks are strong and the country is rockin.

Great bar personable staff. Pizza was very good...only negative was the crust which appears to be commercial versus homemade, palatable though. Prime rib sandwich was excellent, a big meal for $10. Place is very popular so hang in the bar and wait for a table or eat at the bar

Best restaurant in the area! The prime rib and BBQ ribs are amazing! Yes, it is a very busy place, but it's well worth the wait.

Good food and drinks and pricing. Always busy. Only negative is the frozen pizza crust, but plenty of other things to eat.

Amazing little gem in a otherwise forgettable town! Great food, simple atmosphere, and good fun! Always be sure to get there early or else this tiny place will fill up and you'll be left waiting because there's really no comparable place near by! Haha

The best place to eat in the area. The Philly is the bomb. Also the ribs always sell out. Plan on waiting if you're not there by 5pm on weekends. But, it's well worth the wait. Great for familes.
