I know it's an overused phrase, but this is really what "home cooking" is all about. No matter what you're in the mood for, you'll find it here. Large portions, decent prices. You will never have a better turkey dinner (Sorry, mom).

Went here for a business lunch. The server was not very friendly, seemed irritated that she had to wait on us. Ordered a chicken sandwich that was very dry and bland. My associate ordered the Monte Cristo, which was delicious. We also shared onion rings and fries, both were literally WET!! No crunch at all, no flavor. I asked for ranch while ordering, and again after the food arrived, which I never received. I asked to speak with management after our meal and she seemed to have the same attitude as our server. Terrible service, terrible food, no accountability for either. Also way WAY WAAAAYYY overpriced!! P.S. Shared this experience with my Fiancée and her response was "NEVER go to key's! The service is horrible and we always find hair in our food."

As I'm originally from the northern suburbs, Key's has, for some reason, been our default go-to place for brunch. Mostly because one of my friends love it. If I had to describe Key's in one word, it would average. Completely average. The wait was incredibly long. We went for Sunday brunch at around 10:30 and had to wait about 25 minutes to get a table. The overall service was great. The waiter, an obvious high schooler, was very friendly and attentive. The food was okay. I got the salmon eggs Benedict. Tasty, but nothing special. The portion size was also good; it was enough but not overwhelming. I would go back, because I always do. But by be same token it was plainly average overall.

Went for lunch, had an average burger and sweet potatoes fries. To finish the deal I ordered a ho-ho slice to go! All was great except the service was a bit slow. Will come here again.

Probably the best Keys I have been to. It was pretty packed for a Sunday, but we expected it to be. The wait however, was just under 10 minutes. Thee turn around was pretty quick. Service was good. Excellent breakfast options: Dad and I both ordered the # 1. Two eggs, toast, home fries or hashbrowns meat optional. I opted in for the bacon which made my day. 4 thick cut hearty pieces of bacon. Very reasonable , tasted great and hit the spot. Mom ordered scrambled eggs with French toast. She said this batch of French toast was the best she had yet ( on her many visits) Place is pretty good size. Friendly staff Good food.

If you want to know where everyone in Forest Lake is on a Saturday morning, check out Keys. The place was PACKED. I was very impressed with their service at the front. Although there was a line, it moved quickly and no one was ever told they needed to wait. These guys must he the masters of flipping tables. The only tough part is people congregate immediately at the entry door since the hostess is there. There is plenty of space to move into the actual waiting area, but people don't - they create the line so it goes outside. Maybe just design over sight. The food was excellent. They had a special that day for apple bacon egg quesadillas with a side of hashbrowns. The portions were huge which is what I expect with Keys. It makes breakfast more expensive than other places, but you are really getting leftovers for lunch too. We have a child along with us who was thrilled with his Mickey Mouse pancakes and was even more excited that the head of Mickey pancake was bigger than his head. They have a tremendous looking bakery!! Despite the whole town being there, our serve was great. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. I would recommend Keys any day!

This is the best breakfast around. My personal favorite is the potatoes etc. it is full of veggies mixed with hashbrowns and topped with provolone cheese. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

Our friends took us here on a Sunday as it's one of their favorites. I can see why for a few reasons; 1. The service was great including quick, efficient, happy and friendly staff. 2. The food was pretty good especially the french Toast and homemade jam! 3. The prices were reasonable and worth it. We will come back again for both the atmosphere/service and the food. I gave it 4 stars because half of the food was extraordinary well my eggs were basic. Overall I would recommend it!

Nick was so helpful. My mom had been here one time before and he remembered her drink! What gray customer service. Turkey dinner to die for!!!!

Two words for ya ! Farmers omelette is a belly buster in a half son. Huge portions here and if you come early enough they have great breakfast specials for the old and young. Try the jam here it's homemade and now available for people to take home and eat out of the jar.

Went for a second time, a birthday supper party of 8. One crusted walleye, meat loaf, ceasar salad, combo, and 3 phillies. No complaints. The waitress mixed up a couple things with the order and splitting the bills..Losing a star because the bread to meat/topping ratio on the phillies was just wrong~too much bread. The last of the beer cheese soup was sold out from under one of us after the order was taken, oh well. I'll stick with breakfast.

After many attempts to love this place, I give up. Service is horrible, unfriendly, uncaring, almost uncomfortable. Our latest visit resulted in burnt toast (black), and a long black hair under my eggs. Waitress: "oh, sorry, want something else?" Yes, I would like something else, something different from Keys for breakfast. We will not return.

Huge portions and really tasty food at great prices! This is the best place to get homemade corned beef hash and eggs (with a side of homemade rye bread and homemade jam). I can eat about a third of the hash and then I have to take the rest home for a couple more breakfasts later on in the week. I look forward to it every time we go. Forest Lake being the only Keys Cafe location to serve corned beef hash, rather than roast beef hash, makes this Keys a breakfast destination for me.

Here's the thing about Key's bakery - the foods not bad but the customer service SUCKS. I've been there about 8 times, never had less than an hour wait to get my food. Seriously just sitting there for an hour wondering wtf is wrong with the wait/cook staff that they get blown out of the water by literally ever other diner in the area. Oh! Try calling! They won't freaking answer lol I tried to place an order to go since I thought that's the only way I'd get a meal on time and sure as hell 4 unanswered called later I simply gave up and went to Perkins. It's cheaper and tastes about the same. You have good food - now fire your entire staff and start over.

I haven't been to a Keys in like 15 years, and I have never been to this location. We had the carrot cake and the signature keys cake, both very good, you can't go wrong with their desserts. The regular food menu looks great and has a nice selection of home style dinners, but a restaurant with that type of menu shouldn't have Pepsi, so I will not be back.

I like that there is a lot of space in this place. The only other Key's I have been to is the one in White Bear Lake and in my opinion it cramped. Has a nice mix on the menu and bakery items look yummy each time I have been there. Was lucky enough on a Saturday morning to be able to buy a cinnamon roll. Other times I have been there they didn't have any out:( Yummy!!! The menu items I have tried have been good. I have only tried breakfast items. Various omelets and pancakes.

I found Keys Cafe & Bakery because I was staying in Forest Lake for business. It was on my list based upon Yelpers' reviews, and it became the eatery of choice when it was right next door to my hotel. On the east side of 35N, the restaurant is convenient. It is nothing much to look at inside - it is large with your standard laminate tables and a short bar. I was excited because they had a TV, which is unusual in the diner world, and they were willing to put on Monday Night Football. As others have mentioned, the service was spotty. One gal was VERY friendly, and my waitress picked up the pace about halfway through my meal. But, the cashier actually talked past me the entire time that I was paying, and they were generally not very friendly. C'est la vie. This review is really for the food - not for service or ambience, because that's not what diners are about. I was tempted by the salmon benedict, but I decided that a warm sandwich sounded so much better on this cold, cold evening. WOW! I am so glad that I did. I ordered the Dana Turkey Burger ($7), which was a third pound ground turkey patty made with celery, onion, and garlic (SO GOOD!) that was cooked well melted swiss cheese (I had them hold the provolone) and served on grilled sourdough with grilled onions (I should have ordered extra onions). Because there was no sauce, I got a side of the chipotle mayo, which is not at all spicy but it is flavorful. WOWZA!!! The bread was reported as "housemade", and it was delish. The burger was so flavorful.... it was like turkey meatloaf on texas toast with cheese. How can that be wrong? Plus, I was super excited that you can get "sticks" with the sandwich - celery and carrots (3 big pieces of each) and a kosher pickle spear. I ate absolutely every bite. I nearly could have rolled out the door. Despite the mixed bag of service and personalities, I left a 30%+ tip and was still out of there for just under $10. Who can beat it? If you are in the area, this is a good choice for a tasty sandwich (lunch/dinner).

Looking for breakfast on your way to the north shore? This is an easy stop and offers a traditional cafe/coffee shop with great friendly local service. Breakfast is what this place has going on. They have all the traditional egg dishes, omelettes, and manhole cover sized pancakes. Oh, and Breakfast is served all day! The bakery items looked quite good too (maybe next time).

On two different visits recently, watched the person that handled the money use her bare hands to take pieces of pie out of the tin, gross. This happened twice with two different employees. Also watched her wipe the knife off on a very dirty rag before slicing another piece- really gross. Canceled my order, and the woman seemed insulted. Spoke with the manager and she seemed to understand this was a big health violation, said she'd talk to the employees, but I'm done eating there.

Been here numerous times with the family. It seems lately they kind of taken for granted their customers. The service is okay but not excellent. Slow at times (been forgotten about a few times). The prices are a bit spendy for what you get. I will say that the turkey dinner and roast beef dinner is my favorite and is a good deal. But as far as a sandwich and soup it is spendy. Plus there is the "add on" prices. Add soup $$, sub fries for chips $$, etc etc. That all adds up. We were really big fans of this place when it first opened and now find ourselves coming less and less. When we do come here we most often go away disappointed. Maybe the bar was set too high in the beginning.

Great food. Great service on a Tuesday morning. I had the Mexican omelette and Marcell had the garden omelette with egg whites and it was legit.

I am very disappointed in the quality of food I experienced this evening at the Forest Lake location. I haven't had the best of luck eating it keys, but it has been over a year so I thought what the heck. Let's give them another try.....BAD IDEA. I had the famous turkey dinner, it was disgusting. The potatoes were not only cold, but we're hardly mashed...more like chunked potatoes. The turkey (both white and dark meat) was dry, looked like it was about a week old, and frankly not something I would even give to my dog. The stuffing was also cold, looked like canned cat food, and the flavor was only of salt. The gravy was missing all together, the whole meal was cold, and really, canned green beans. I ended up throwing out the meal rather than eating it. My boyfriend ordered an omelet, it was in-edible. Soggy toast and hash browns, and the omelette was still slightly raw in the middle. This meal was also tossed in the trash. The service was pretty crummy too. I had to wait for all of the kids working the counter to finish their very important meeting so that I could pay and leave, only to feel like I was interrupting and receiving dirty looks all the while. Very unfriendly, and then they ask for a tip!?!? So here we sit, $25 thrown in the trash, and we're still trying to figure out what to do for dinner. Needless to say, Keys has lost a customer for good this time. Very disappointed. Save your money.

The food here was absolutely amazing. I have never had eggs benedict with a meat other than Canadian bacon, and was delighted to see honey-cured salmon eggs benedict on the menu. It was as delicious as it sounded, with fresh, tasty Hollandaise and plenty of salmon. The others at my table were nothing but happy with their various omelets and other eggs benedict varieties. We all ordered hot tea and were served with as much hot water, lemon, honey, and as many tea bags as we could use, which was just delightful. Prompt, polite service, and a wonderful experience overall. I didn't see the bill, so I can't attest to the cost, but I would have been willing to pay well for such a nice time.

We stopped in at this nice little cafe for lunch as we were driving from Rochester to Duluth. Service was prompt and friendly and the cafe itself was clean, bright, and cheery. I had the taco salad, which was different than what I am used to (it came on a bed of tortilla chips rather than in the tortilla bowl, which is probably more health since its not as much fried stuff). It was quite tasty--all the salad ingredients were fresh, crisp, and delicious. My parents each had an eggs benedict dish, which they said was quite good and my brother had the atilla the hun, which looked delicious (he liked it a lot). Definitely a great place to stop if you are passing through the area or happen to live near by.

Fairly expensive. Extremely noisy. And for four people mini-tables. Food was OK, but nothing special. But the crowning touch was the gawd awful iced tea. When we complained to the server, asking if they had a fresh batch, she said that they make their tea from a syrup....so nothing different was possible. Overall you can do better than this restaurant.

"Turkey dinner is like eating at home. Peanut butter cookies yummy when fresh; today (and on more than one occasion) clearly served day old and such a disappointment. There should be a law against serving day old food at fresh food prices!"

I had the biscuits and gravy. You get a lot of food here. The service is good, the coffee is decent, and the prices are normal. They have a bakery. I would go again.

I've only ever been to the Keys Cafe in Roseville so I'm not an expert on the other locations. The new location in Forest Lake is nice. Unlike the other reviewer, I like the space. I think a local coffee shop/cafe should always be bustling with locals and it is. I love the large booths and the one family table in the back. Some of the tables in the middle are too close together but I'm sure they are trying to get as many seats as legally possible to keep the revenue flowing. They seem to be doing a great job of that as this location is always busy no matter what time of day. Love the breakfast all day. Love the homecooked meals on the menu. Love the bakery. Love the location. Service still needs to be brought up a level but I'll tolerate it for all the other things I love about Keys.

Stopped in for just a little something yesterday - soup and salad. Wow, their Turkey Noodle Soup was amazing, packed with turkey, vegetables and plump homemade noodles. The garden salad was quite large, the French dressing and croutons homemade. You get a surprise too - dessert! I picked the coconut cream pie to go and enjoyed it later that evening. All this for eight bucks. Right on!!!!

I used to eat at Keys restaurant in Woodbury when I used to live down there. It was a favorite amongst a bunch of women friends when we used to eat lunch there almost every month. We loved the casual and friendly atmosphere. And then it got bad. So we stopped going. This past summer, Keys opened another restaurant in Forest Lake. I didn't have any interest in trying it. However, just before Christmas, a bunch of friends suggested we get together and go there for breakfast. Bad. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as it was a different location. But the food wasn't too far above terrible. It may be cheap, but that's no excuse to eat that kind of food. I'm not a picky eater, but this just was not a good meal.
